Pretty easy, not a very good teacher, curves a lot, but exams are difficult, homework doesn't relate to exams but do it anyway, he's nicer when you do
I also had Agnerson for Discrete Math. He writes endlessly on the board, but nothing useful for your exams or homework. Thankfully he curves - a lot. On one midterm 56 was the highest, so he added 44 points - you can tell something's wrong there.

Had him for 125. Have problems? Go see him during office hours. He's VERY helpful. Sure, exams and quizes are hard but you can basically blow off the whole semester, get an A on the final and you'll get an A for the course. The curves are huge.
He was an okay teacher... he doesnt actually do math. he writes in essay format which is hard if your going into it from a class where the teacher does alot of examples. He curves alot though. Hes a nice guy but dont take this class unless you have a good comprehension of the beginings of Calc
i had background in calculus coming into this class and i struggle with his lectures. A really nice and great guy but i have a hard time getting the concepts from him. His tests are hard but there is a cruve. If you go to office hours he will always help you. But i do not recommend taking his class
Calculus with Geir is TOUGH. No bones about it, Prof. Agnarrson teaches ABOVE the learning curve of the course and really makes you work your butt off for your grade. HOWEVER, if you go to his office hours and REALLY, DILIGENTLY do the homework, you can survive the class with a C.
This class was very difficult and his slides weren't helpful. However, he was nice enough to help me frequently during his office hours. If you do ALL the homework, you'll be able to pass the class because he does see whether you skip HW assignments.
Examples galore, but it's good. Goes above the class requirements, but still teaches basics. Good lecturer, but without a good TA for a recitation you'll be lost.
had this guy 2 years ago(thought he was fired) & the class was horrible. Agnarson confuses students by making up words & skiping through material without explaining it. also, he cant even solve some of his own problems, but expects us to be able to. Dont take him unless u already know the material
This teacher is the hardest one I have ever had. The way he teaches has no correlation to the book whatsoever. The quizzes he gives us in the Recitation are very difficult, and his exams are the hardest I have seen in my life. There are 5 questions on each exam, and each question is a 5 part problem
You need to running at his jumpy speed to keep up. Makes a bunch of mistakes due to this - thus confuses students. BUT go to his class hopped up on coffee and you will die from laughter from the kinda stuff he says, funny guy. Curves and rightly so, material is hard, tests short but require lots of work. Pick him if this is your second time around.
Agnarsson is a very helpful professor; all you have to do is ask for help. His homework problems and tests are very challenging, but he does curve. I learned a lot from him even though it took a bit of work on my part.
I consider myself very good at math but professor Agnarsson's tests and quizzes make my eyes roll. If this is your first time taking Math 114, I suggest taking it with another professor. Anywho, he curves like crazy so passing his class wouldn't be that stressful. Besides the difficult tests and quizzes, he's a great guy and is very helpful. :)
Tests in this class are terrifying. The first one's average grade was a 33/100. He curves fairly though, so don't panic. Not the clearest person, and it's good if you've taken it once before. Ask for help, and he will. His classes are very funny, sometimes unintentially, but he's a great guy and has a good sense of humor.
Dr. Agnarsson is one tough professor, but he grades leniently, which balance things out. I did horrible on the first test, mediocre on the second test, and even worse on quizzes, but I ended up with a B no less. With that said, all you have to do is to stay up all night before the final, study your brain out, and pass with a decent grade.
great teacher! dude is one ripped viking! i took calc 1 3x and this was first time in clac II. I got a B, definately take him, average curve is 22 pts!
If you are at least decent at math and can cram well, then by all means, take him. If you find math difficult, do yourself a favor and find another professor. You won't understand anything he explains in class; you have to really teach yourself and that's very time consuming. He does curve a lot and he's a great guy, he just doesn't teach well.
Not sure what I will take from this class if at all.
doesn't know how to teach, but his curves are awesome, take him if u have a little bit knowledge abt the calculus cuz his way of teaching is just horrible, but u can easily pass his class with the curving method
teaches caclulus and throws in all other sorts of math, like geometry, etc. has the largest curves i have ever seen, sometimes involving 30 or more points. if you do the hw and go to class most of the time you will do well
Not only is this guy a bad teacher but he also plays favorites. You can ace his class by getting him to like you. Do you want to pass the class but learn nothing? Then this is the professor for you.
The one thing the ratings before me haven't mentioned: He does curve about 30 points on every test AND a 40/100 is like a C. So if you got a 10/100 on a test, that means you have done enough to earn a C, since 30 points curve + 10 = 40. LOL. Ridiculous isn't it? But Dr. Agnarsson has no choice but to curve since his tests are near impossible to pass. The man needs to take a teaching class. I can teach better than him.
He is the worst professor I have taken so far. I took Calculus I for this semester, and I don't get any stuff from him. He teaches writing, not math. Don't take his class unless you love him as hell.
classes are very boring. he has these very high end mathematical theorms and it is pretty confusing . i pretty much learned everything from my DAD (whose is an engineer) and didn't learn much from class. All i'm saying is STUDY and PRACTICE problems. DO NOT DO LAST MINUTE!Even if you took calculus in high school, you need to STUDY and come to class
This guy is really nice. He challenges you, and wants you to think. I just got back from his final. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. This guy is really nice, and is willing to help you out any way he can. He just doesn't make sense sometimes. If you have him, then use this site http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/AllBrowsers/2413/2413.asp
Challenging, but giving. The tests are hard but the curve is awesome. Learn the methodology for the tests; he gives lots of credit if you can show him the work. Be sure to know your trig also! 2 tests, a cumulative final, quizzes every week and computer assignments.
The last 2 reviews are pretty accurate. Tests are hard but the curve it nice. Really nice guy and he gives you every opportunity to do well in his class. If you go to class, recitation sessions and do the homework you should have no problem doing well in his class.
This guy is a riot! I recommend taking his class b/c 1. he is funny 2. lectures are helpful and clear 3. tests are hard, but come on its calc!!! 4. i got an A w/out going to his office for any help. Just do the HW he assigns, it takes only about 3-5 hrs a week and you will have a decent grade! Great teacher!
Excellent guy. He's hilarious, and classes are fun. Tests, however, will throw you to the ends of sanity. They are not only on the concepts cited in the book, but on very clever manipulations of those concepts. They are very brief, usually 5 questions. An A is possible, because the curve is always ridiculous. Drill problems and you'll be okay.
Wonderful guy, clearly explains and rigorously justifies each step in the process to solve problems. I wish he taught more undergrad classes. If you are doing a calculus sequence at George Mason, it would be nonsense to take somebody else.
Lectures were good, and he makes some weird yet amusing jokes. Grade consists of 2 Maple HW's, couple quizzes, 2 tests and a final. He will change the weight each test has on your grade, if needed, which can really help out. He's an OK prof., but if you're average at math like me, though, be prepared to study a lot.
he does not know what he is talking about and cannot teach he takes the long way around everything and the class is boring everytime that i do go to class i try to stay awake, but end up falling asleep anyway
Professor Agnarsson is a nice guy; he doesn't take attendance, so I suggest studying his lecture notes or talking to him after class(he's reachable) but come to class once in awhile before exams/midterms. EXAMS are HARD! HE CURVES EXTREMELY well, and he will drop your lowest midterm. If you are not good at math, then I suggest taking Crossin.
A complete idiot...You really don't have to go to class to learn the material, as he just uses the slides that come with the book. If you get a problem right but he doesn't like how you did it, he will feel free to take half off.
First off. This is like a high school calc class so if you took calc in high school you'll pass. I thought it was very easy. He's a nice guy but sometimes his teachings were a bit confusing so I just read what the text book said. If you like math I would recommend getting him.
If you are good at math he would be great for you. I was always confused after his lectures but math isn't my strong suit. He posts all his notes on his website which is great if you can't come to class. He gives homework every week. I love his grading policy. You can fail every midterm and still get an A in the class if you do well on the final.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. I am a MATH major and I found his lectures to be absolutely devoid of intelligence and completely confusing, in order to pass the class you will need to learn the material on your own. Gives out quizzes at the end of each week and you will not know what will be on them and he doesn't give you answers to them. WORST PROFESSOR
Horrible professor. Uses old notes he puts up on the overhead, then doesn't explain them. Barely curved exams even though the average on midterm and final was 40/100. Not helpful, refuses to answer questions in class and by email. AVOID AT ANY AND ALL COSTS.
NOT RECOMMENDED. Moves very quickly through old slides, barely explaining them. Class is almost all theory, doesn't explain HOW to solve the problems. Avg test scores were in the low 40s! He saw we were struggling and didn't seem to care. Take this class with ANYONE else!
Going to class didn't really help anyone... after I finally learned how to take his notes and decipher them using the textbook as well, I was able to finish the final strong. The best part about his class is that if you do better on the final he drops your midterm. Mid avg: 44, Final avg: 41 I pulled off an A by learning the whole class myself.
Go into his class planning to do most if not all the studying on your own. I used the textbook to help me know what his notes were about. It explained basic concepts that he does not explain and assumes you know what he's talking about. Make sure you find someone to help you early on to prevent you from falling behind, as a few concepts pop up later in the course and makes studying for his exams easier.
Probably one of the worst professors at GMU. His notes are a confusing mess, he isn't clear in class, and he goes fast. He is also rather condescending if you ask a question in class. I've basically had to learn discrete math on my own. That wasn't helped by the fact that the book that he uses is awful. Avoid him at all cost.
The only reason Dr. Agnarsson received such bad reviews is because those guys are probably really lazy. I think he is a great professor: he doesn't break down the material completely but challenges you to think and figure it out. That's what math is about, right? Critical thinking and reasoning.
Awful. There are much better teaches around. This teacher makes the test questions harder than the hmwk or setup differently. Doesn't prepare you well for exam. You will need a lot of free time to study for this class. Most importantly, study the lecture notes completely. Do the set of hwmk problems and more for each chapter. Review old qzs also.
The worst teacher I have ever had! avoid at all costs
Make no mistake, you will have to work in Dr. Agnarsson's class; math is work. However, he went far above the call of duty by providing invaluable lecture notes, and being available for office hours. If you attend office hours, don't expect the answer handed to you - he will work with you to *teach* you the concepts.
Don't bother going to class. I would understand the material and when I attended class he would end up confusing everyone. His exams are more complicated then they should be. AVIOD at all cost!!! This class made cry! He will tell you that the exam will be easy but they aren't. Class average on exams were usually 43%. AVIOD!
Terrible professor. He is rude as an individual personally and it reflects in his ability to teach mathematics. He has little, if any respect for his students, their parents and other adults. His grading methods are very inconsistant and he grades homework with no rhyme or reason. He blatantly insults students and is a disgrace to teaching.
he's not that bad, even though his exams were just 4 to 6 questions but they are easy and he also curves a lot .. i think he is better than other math professors i took with.. i took a B without even doing reading the book or doing HW!
I'm surprised how many people on this site criticize Agnarsson. He's not great, but not bad either. He takes dozens of pages of notes with many fully worked out problems and posts them on his site. Some people struggled in the class but I didn't find it too bad at all, even without attending half of the classes. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
I think the biggest mistake that he made was when he tested the class on concepts that we have have not covered yet.He also was worried about finishing the curriculum. He also ended class 7 mn earlier. He did one 35-test and he based all the grade on it.He needs to communicate better. He thinks that he is clever but he is not, I Stuck him alot
He is an amazing teacher!!!!!! He will teach u every thing u need to know but he will teach it through a proof or theory so its a bit hard to understand but at the recitation it is clearly explained. There is some solo study involved and he curves depending on his class average
terrible teacher
Teaches theorems rather than what you would normally learn. Makes the class pretty interesting in this way. By no means an easy class but recitation is incredibly easy. Curves based on class avg so you generally don't know your grade even if you "failed" the first 2 exams as the final exam is weighted incredibly high. Come to class, pay attention.
Im a freshman and took calculus before so I didn't think this class was too hard to get an A in. The exams were really difficult and nothing like the practice, but he curves a lot which is really nice.
Difficult weekly quizzes and two tests. Lectures move really fast and are hard to follow. Tests have many questions different from HW and quizzes.
I don't understand all the bad reviews Agnarsson gets. His lectures are clear and he takes tons of notes and posts them all online. He posts all the quiz and test solutions online. He won't just give you the answer, he makes you work for it but makes sure you understand it too. He's willing to help if you just ask. He posts reviews before each test
He gives weekly quizzes that are one question long. He grades for parts so if you get parts of a question right he will give partial credit. He is extremely confusing and has very odd ways of doing everything. He isnt from America so he has a thick accent. AVOID this class if you know you have some trouble in math because he is NOT helpful at all.
Trust me, take someone else if you are not good at math. He is nice but he does not know how to teach very well, as his lectures are confusing. He is a teacher that knows all the material himself very well but has a hard time teaching it to others. He has weekly quizzes that sometimes has nothing to do with what you have learned, and no calculators
Gier is too difficult. He is too intense and unapproachable to ask questions in class. Tests don't often look like review sheet. Your entire grade is based on about 15-20 questions. Trying to follow his lectures and hand written notes will only make you feel more hopeless and confused throughout the semester. Avoid at all costs.
This professor gives you what you need to succeed, however the study guides are pretty daunting and nobody knows what he's talking about...
Agnarsson is too difficult. For whatever reason he makes this class as challenging as he's possibly allowed. If he is the only teacher available for a class you need to take, wait until next semester.
The class goes extremely fast, so I spent a lot of time with the book. His notes are taken before class so he whips through the pages very quickly. Also, when this class is on chapter 6, most other sections are starting on chapter 3. He makes mistakes on the board a lot. He speaks to the smartest in the room, and test averages are in the 40's.
Take Crossin. He make math more confusing than it ever has to be. I love math and I'm good at it (or at least my grades tell me so), but he made it redonkulous. On two of the 4 tests, he curved it so much that a 43% was an A... When the passing rate is that low, does it not have a little bit to do with the professor?
His tests are hard, but he curves, so that 45% of the class gets A/B On top of that Your final letter grade for this course will be based on RCT Quiz 20% + CA 10% + EX 70%, where the exam grade EX will be the largest number of the following: 1: MT1 20% + MT2 20% + FL 30% 2: MT1 20% + FL 50% 3: MT2 20% + FL 50% 4: FL 70% Hence easy A.
GET READY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL MATERIAL. Here is an overview for passing the class with a great grade: you will go through A LOT in one semester, so make sure you keep up with the class. Every single quiz is based on homework problems that he does the week before, so make sure you understand everything he is doing and follow-up.
Test's are really tough, but he gives partial credit and curves. Gives homework, but it's not required to do it. Most lessons are pre-written, and can be found online, so if you miss class, you won't be missing much. Great professor, really nice guy.
I thought I was going to fail this class but then I realized his exam questions are based off his lectures notes. Master them, and master all the problems on his notes and you will do well. TB hw didn't really help
The class is super difficult if you cant keep up with his pace and dont understand his messy notes. If his noters were actually clear I feel like the class would be a lot easier but since he has a such a messy hand writing its super hard to understand what he's trying to do. I recommend do all the homework and pay attention to lecture.
Geir Agnarsson was one of the kindest teachers that I have ever had period. He really wants everyone in his class to be successful. That being said, the classes that he teaches are typically pretty difficult to begin with, and some people do not make the cut. By the way, he curves :)) :) :)
Professor Agnarsson is a really smart professor. Almost too smart. He teaches things at such a high level that it is hard to follow what is going on sometimes. The exams are hard but if you study his notes you will do well. The trick is to fully understand his notes and use the HW as practice. HW is not too important but his lectures are the key
Professor Agnarsson is a fairly good Professor. He could be a little more confident with his teaching. Sometimes his logic is hard to follow for some students. His tests are also relatively difficult but he typically gives a generous curve. Outside of all that, I enjoyed his lectures and would happily take him again.
Dr. Agnarsson teaches in an advanced level and he posts notes on the website before class so that you can preview. His grading system is very lenient, but his tests are so difficult that everyone fails. I could have gotten A if I practiced all example problems from the notes. Make sure you do that. He does curve.
With him, you will need to study really hard. Tests problems are extremely tricky, so you are required to have algebraic skills to solve them. They are all covered in the notes, so make sure you focus on those. I liked his class even though I didn't do well as I expected. I'm sure I'll do much better next time I take him. I hope to take him again.
Dont take him if you want to learn. I learned nothing from his class and got an A because he curves every exam by like 30-40 points. You learn more in recitation than you do in his class but hes a nice guy and if you dont need calculus 3 then definitely take him just to get the credits
You should reconsider before signing up for his class. He's great, but his tests are in the beyond difficultly level. If your math skills are poor, you will not pass the class despite he has generous grading policies. I did extremely well in AP Calculus AB at high school in addition to MATH113 at GMU, but I still struggled in this class.
Professor Agnarsson is someone who really wants his students to pass and give huge curves to his exams. If you do the homework, you should be able to get an A, otherwise, the class is average in terms of difficulty. Professor Agnarsson is a light-hearted guy who makes jokes through his lectures, but the problem is people don't laugh.
Very lecture heavy, but not much content in the lectures . Tests are hard , and often dont cover content in the review , but there is a curve.
I don't know why he has such bad reviews. Yea, he teaches at a more advanced level because he goes though a lot of material in his lectures. He is a very kind person and is happy to answer questions. Do as much of the practice problems he assigns and read through with the textbook too. He curves exams a good amount and gives a lot of partial credit
He teaches the course so much harder than it should be. He does try to make class funny though. He posts the notes on his website so you really don't need to go to class. He assigns a lot of homework problems but they are optional. His tests are very hard but he curves the exam by a lot because most people don't do well on them.
Professor Agnarsson is an amazing teacher. He is very clear in his proofs and descriptions of theorems. He doesn't "leave exercises to the reader".
Discrete math is complicated, and this class will make you need to study. He curves the exams pretty highly, and I took his class asych (one midterm, one final). He is a wonderful teacher if you go to his office hours, and he truly cares for his students. Homework is not graded, but exams are similar to notes, hw & quizzes he gives on Gradescope.
Incredibly hard class due to the nature of the course but this professor was not easy to talk to and was incredibly difficult. I have to take the course over again due to that. Good luck.
I don't understand how people are giving him such bad ratings. He's a really good lecturer and his quizzes and exams reflect EXACTLY as what he specifically covers in classes. Homework is not mandatory but it's good to do few problems just to get a hang of it. if you watch his lectures and study his notes, it'll be an easy A as exams are open note
This teacher is awful, do not take him. His quizzes were so easy and straight from lecture, but the midterm and finals (WORTH 90% OF THE WHOLE GRADE) were terribly hard and not even enough practice or examples given like them. The curve was terrible and class avg was like a 55/100.. do yourself a favor skip him online, idk about in person
Worst math class Ive ever taken. 90% of your grade is the midterm and final. everything fails. Class average is 50%. He curved the midterm but not the final. The study guide doesnt help. Hell give you examples that are on level one but the exam questions are level 100. Do not take.
He goes through problems during lectures, but the hw doesn't always reflect what he teaches. I do really like this prof, he's respectful and you can tell he cares about his students. Quizzes are easy. Exams, however, are more complicated. 5-8 problems. Review the lecture notes over and over and really understand the processes for each topic.
Smart/lazy. Points/skims at notes; EZ logic topics appear overwhelming. Homeworks what he finds interesting; tangential to what's on quizzes/exams. MASTER HIS NOTES; know how to do examples yourself. 90% of your grade's decided on a few questions, which can be very hard if you study the wrong things. Google's your friend if you know what I mean :)
He is a nice guy. He was accessible for office hours. His notes are really messy and it's really hard to understand them. He curves a lot tho.
*NOTE: 90% of grades come from 2 midterm exams, 1 final Good professor, accessible, willing to help, funny, got jokes. Lecture notes are available on blackboard. Be prepared for 50 homework problems or more (not graded) every week to practice (highly recommended doing) Not a tough grade but you gotta show work. He curved a lot (70 is usually an A)
He is the best math prof at gmu. Everyone who says he is hard is not that bright in math and is a little lazy. For math people, easy A and an amazing professor. For those who aren't, just study a little more and look at the book examples. The prof is very nice and down to earth. Nicest prof ever. Easiest quizzes ever, with medium difficulty exams.
Hardest class I've taken. Discrete math is a hard subject to understand and he doesn't make it any better. Lecture heavy with handwritten notes, he doesn't explain the concepts well. A couple quizzes, 1 question each but they were like a test question. Exams were super hard, some questions would be on topics he never covered in class. Avoid him!!
Your grade is determined by Webassign, in-person weekly quizzes, and the midterm & final. Some low grades from WA/quizzes are dropped, and the tests are graded on a very fair curve. Also a very fair grader who gives partial credit for problems done wrong
He is very good at answering our questions in class.
He cares about the students and will stop to make sure you understand concepts but you may have to come to him outside of class time. he works best with a class that is asking him questions and pausing him to explain certain things. Partial credit is given generously on his exams and quizes.
Geir Agnarsson is the kindest professor I know. He is lenient on homework, super understanding about missing tests or quizzes, and curves grades a lot. His lectures aren't the easiest to follow, and they aren't super engaging. Resources are well organized on the BB page, test + quizzes get graded quickly, and he usually ends classes early.
Worth the weekly quizzes in my opinion. He had a generous curve for the exams and makes the exam you score the highest weigh more. Has weekly summaries on Blackboard and good exam reviews as well. Only caveat is that he's a fast talker, but also a fast grader as well. Take him if you want an easy, fast-paced class.
Although I didn't do very well but I loved this class. Professor Agnarsson is very caring and funny. He really cares about students. I wish I had worked harder to do better in the class. I will miss this class. This was the class I looked forward to attending during the semester. There was homework each week, midterm, and final.
Gier gets a bad rap because he teaches hard classes, I had him for discrete which is hit or miss for most. Graded on ten quizzes and two tests (better one weighs more). You can watch his brain bounce around required topics and students' questions. He moves quickly and erratically and this can be hard to follow for some. I for one loved his class.
He only teaches important math from mainly a powerpoint rather than a board, which he does use, but relies on a powerpoint still. He fails to explain in depth how to solve the math or what each part of the formula means. He is the good in the bad of discrete math professor so choose him, but don't rely on him.
The whole class was just theoroms and proofs of theoroms only. No example problems. Soooo much notes. I had a completely filled book. His homework relates nothing to exams, hw super hard. The exams are mid difficulty, soooo much grade boost & curving, but scares you sooo much. I would not take for 301, take som1 else. He is nice tho and easy grader
ok he is a nice guy that can't teach. he goes over the slides without going through problems his midterm and final are 5 questions each question is 20% the average for the final was 52% that alone should tell you a lot. But he does curve a lot and drops quizzes. Stay away, good luck.
Teaches super fast. Skipping lectures would be a better use of time. Class also has material that seemed higher-level different compared to other discrete classes - we completely skipped truth tables but did Kruskal's algorithm. Make sure you know your algebra otherwise you'll definitely lose points. He's very kind and funny and is ready to help.
Dr. Agnarrson is a very nice and caring professor. The lectures are primarily presenting theorems, providing proof, repeat. Homework/exams can be challenging but he is generous with the curve so it balances out. Enjoyable experience overall.
Really nice guy, always looking to improve as a teacher, but teaches this difficult subject, which requires a strong math background. To solve this issue, he curves the class a huge amount. He is still looking to find ways to make this class easier;perhaps that may be done by providing supplemental videos, recorded lectures, and making exams easier.
a nice guy, but isn't a great lecturer. reads straight off the slides (the work for each problem is also already done on the slides) and the slides are a direct rip from the textbook. weekly quizzes with one question and exams made up of five questions. curves a ton. hw is done through cengage, but he doesn't really know how the platform works.
Super likable guy, however very fast with lecturing; you don't have time to take notes. Weekly quizzes are 1 question and around 20% of your grade. Exams were 5 questions and proof based. However, he curves A LOT. He made sure that the average of the class was a C.
He is a generous grader. He curves the exams appropriately and encourages you to succeed. There are weekly quizzes but he always posts the answers immediately after it was administered. Although I am not a fan of his lecture style (learning with slides and speedy talker), he does present the information well. Put in the effort and you will succeed.
Professor Agnarsson is a very decent teacher. He is very nice, but his lectures are very fast, and you will need to do a lot of reading and outside work, which you WILL be doing from cengage. Be ready for a quiz on one of the 2-4 cengage topics for the week every week. He also is a very generous grader, curving a lot of the exams. Show up to class!
He seems enthusiastic about discrete math, but he isn't the best at explaining difficult concepts. There are weekly quizzes, please study for these. The midterm and final exams were not that hard, just make sure to study each unit the week they are given. He is a generous grader and curves a lot of the exams.
he's a nice and friendly guy but he lectures way too fast to be able to take notes or digest the information. you can access his slides on BB though and the hw is easy to complete even if you don't know what you're doing. he does weekly quizzes and grading is tough on them but they are usually a concept seen on the hw due that week.
Although his explanations of the challenging topics are not always the greatest, he seems very passionate about discrete math. Discrete math concepts are complicated so please be ready. There are quizzes every week. He curves a lot of the examinations and is a kind grader.
He curves A LOT! This class itself is not easy and his lectures can be hard to understand because he skips through steps but he provides study guides which is formatted the same as exams ! My experience with him has been great and he is a good person with an intent for his students to pass. Don't be afraid to take him, he is there to help you!
If i could give a 0 i would, complete bum at teaching probably can't even teach himself the difference between his left and right. Will just talk all class about nonsense and uses power points to teach math where his handwriting looks to be written by a 5-year-old. Do not take, makes up own problems for power points and even gets them wrong at times.
He is very friendly but is very hard to understand with his weird analogies and old way of doing math. His notes have a lot of holes where he skips steps and doesn't explain what happens.
He is very passionate about calculus, it's just that he cant teach it at all. His lectures make no sense as he randomly starts talking about lord knows what, along with his weird analogies. the tests are difficult, his notes have holes in them. some good things though, he curves heavily and I believe that's the only reason I passed.
This guy can't teach if his life depended on it. If you want to understand a topic, learn it yourself and don't listen to him because he'll confuse you even more. DO NOT TAKE!
Discrete math can be tough, but this professor makes it more manageable. Lectures move fast, so stay engaged and use Unstuck AI alongside the textbook for extra practice. Weekly quizzes are a challenge, but he curves exams generously. Worth taking if you put in the effort.
Professor Agnarsson Is my favorite math professor I've had. I took his math 125 course as well. His lectures move very quickly but for me that is engaging. He cares a lot and curves generously. His grading criteria is very clear and his study sheets and emphasized lecture topics are generally the entirety of his exams.
I feel like this professor did not care about teaching this class. He reads from the slides and the slides are copy paste from the textbook so there is no reason to come to class and I would rather study myself. There are weekly quizzes and trying to understand what it will be about was a nightmare. I was not offered a space to learn in this class
The median on the final was around 55/100, even with a curve. This class is not beginner-friendly and skips the introductory discrete math chapters, starting at Chapter 4. The lecture slides mostly repeated the textbook and didn't add much clarification. Weekly quizzes felt unpredictable. I wouldn't recommend it.
He skipped 3 introductory discrete math chapters, and the class was essentially thrown in head-first at chapter 4. Weekly quizzes were make or break, and you never know the topic, so it became more beneficial to ignore the lecture entirely and try to study. On the contrary, he's a nice guy and give a heavy curve. Weigh your options.
Pros: Heavy curve. He's sweet and funny. Cons: Not beginner friendly. Reads directly off of the slides at lightning speed without many examples. Gives a quiz every Thursday on an undisclosed concept of the previous week's homework so its better to study during lecture rather than listening. Grading is HEAVILY based on tests and quizzes.
Very nice guy, but he isn't very good at teaching. His lectures are fast and read directly from slides from the textbook. Grade is mostly from weekly quizzes on unknown lecture topics and the midterm and final. The exams are very hard (55/100 final mean), but get curved pretty hard. Was a pretty difficult class to get through.
