Estep seems to be a nice person but as a teacher was very unhelpful, & expected alot. Her test are very hard so STUDY!! She is not very helpful although she says should would be. 4 someone who wants to make a difference in students through a Junior College she has a lot of work to do! Lecture only...bore!
Lecture are very quick. Test are hard. Short answer/essay but you have to study a lot. There are 2 midterms(!!!), a final, an essay, a four quizes/discussion questions. Easy if you study, but like I've said you need to study a lot. Is a novice when it comes to answering questions. Says she knows how hard school is, yet makes it hard students??
Estep's class was not boring at all! It is fast-paced and she makes it funny. She is very understanding and helpful, especially if you talk to her outside of class. She is a really cool teacher!
fun class! She is super young and cool to talk to. has fun with her students and makes history exciting, which is not easy!
While Estep knows her material fairly thoroughly, she presents it with her own, ah, slant. Her political agenda is extremely blatant, and often distracting as she is very closed-minded about most topics. Note: if you disagree with her, DON'T mention it, because she will become biased based on your opinion, and in what way it differs from hers.
I loved her class. She was so nice and funny. She goes fast so take fast notes, but would give study guides to help you prepare for her hard tests, which really weren't that hard..Excellent teacher though
she knows her material however her own political agenda makes it difficult to sort through the garbage that comes out of her mouth. don't disagree, she will shut you up fast...even if you are only saying factual things.

She knows her stuff, yet her assignments and tests are difficult to understand. I was very dissapointed because her class was not student friendly.
Gena is a good teacher. Class is fun and she makes you think. Her expectations are clear---she tells you exactly what will be on the test 2 weeks in advance! She gives time for all her assignments and tells you exaclty what you shuold work on for next time. If youu don't do good in her class, its not because of her!
I considered myself a male feminist before I took her class, Women in American History, but she changed my mind. She is extremely bias in her point of view. She is even **** in the way she treats males in her class. She is rude and she doesn't open the class up to any opinion but her own.
I love her class! I thinkshe is nice to everyone and have never seen her be rude---even to the guy in my class who thinks women go to college to fnid husbands! her class is interesting & challenging, but fun. Definitely take her. I have already signed up for her again next semester!
Gina is a wonderful teacher! She's very clear in her instructions, a little fast-paced, but very friendly. She really knows her subject and makes herself available to help if you don't. She actually makes history FUN. Very organized. For tests, she gives study guides 2 weeks in advance... You'd really have to try hard to fail this course.
She is very organized i belive now she is also teaching a politcal science class. She's passionate about her teaching with VERY nice organization and good clarity. Would recomend b/c she makes history not boring.
Super fun professor! She gives study guides for the exams and is totally available for questions/concerns. She is passionate about the subject and goes so far above and beyond the textbook. I would absolutley take her again! This is one class you will actually walk away from with so much more than a grade!!
i was a male in her class and did just fine. she may be opinionated, but you do not have to agree with them to succeed in her class. very clear on her directions, just follow them and you will do fine. she is funny cynical which makes class interesting and enjoyable.
I liked Gena's class. She emphasized student involvement and she was helpful and related to students' dilemmas. I went into women's history thinking it would be a joke, but it actually has something to it. The only problem, I found, was that most of the grade was based on participation for which you got all, 1/2 or 0 credit. Need full credit for A.
Gina was beyond a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had. SHe has no ability to lead a discussion and students are often cut off in a very rude manner. She does not even speak intelligently and often reminded me of a valley girl with all her "ya knows". "likes" and "whatevers". She knows her matierial but makes you sorry you took her class.
She knows what shes talking about but shes a horrible teacher. The lectures arent bad and the tests are easy if you study, but she cant lead a good class discussion and a lot of your grade is based on partisipation so its hard to get an A.If you disagree with her DONT say anything she's completely biased and rude if you dont aree with her opinions!!
She is a good teacher. What's the whole purpose of going to college? To better yourself and further your education.Instead of being able to regurgitate information, she makes you actually UNDERSTAND what you learned in the class.Everyone is opinionated but how are you going to argue with someones opinion when its right? Tip: STUDY
I did not like Gena,. She was very rude to anyone who had different ideas than hers. She made it no secret if she didn't like you, by cutting you off and giving you dirty looks when you had something to say or asked a question. Don't take her if you have thoughts of your own.
She is a great teacher. Gena really inspired me to become a professor. Her class is very well structure, you can tell she spends great amounts of time putting her lectures together. Take her.
Gina's a great teacher! She is passionate and makes history interesting/fun. She makes her students THINK and doesn't put up with dumb comments that are uninformed or irrelevant. She tells it like it is. Don't listen to the whiners--she makes you work and think and some people can't handle that.
Gena is an awesome teacher. She is very straight forward and will tell you if you are wrong. As long as you try and come into class with an open mind she will help you out and you will have a lot of fun.
I would not adivse that any one who has a passion for history take her class, or for that matter self improvement. her knowlege of the subect was little if any, thats not so terrible it's her first time teaching 4a, but her negitive and condesending tones make her ingnorance unbarrible.
L-O-V-E-D her class! She is very passionate about women's history and believes everyone should know what women have done in the past. Learned so much and would take any other class she taught. She really opened my eyes to alot of things and was a class that I was happy to go to. Provides midterm & final worksheet. Very helpful to me.
I really liked Gena. She is a hard professor, but as long as you study and you know the material you'll be fine. She's really funny, and she explains stuff really well, and she makes class fun. If you want to learn more about the government, take her! She really helps.
i took gena for two classes. she rocks. she makes you think and really doesn't ask that much of you. and she's just cool. if you want to learn from someone cool and young and not afraid to say and think how she wants then take her class. plus...if you get on her good side by being a good student, she is an awesome ref. later on! she has totally
She was very rude to anyone who had different ideas that hers. She knows what she is talking about, but she is a horrible teacher. The leactures are not bad, and the exams are easy if you study. If you disagree with her don't say anything.
I took Gena's Women's History class and her Poli Sci 1 class. She will forever be one of my most memorable professors. Nothing about her classes are easy... but they're well worth the effort. And all this "male bashing" crying I see in the other posts are lame... I'm as male as they come and it just takes an open mind. STUDY FOR HER TESTS!!!!!!!!
I hated this teacher. She was really cool to start out, and then towards the end of the semester she never returned any of my emails (I took her online womens history class), and she gave me two zeros for a discussion, and never explained to me why when I asked her. Her material was really interesting, but the fact that she never answered me not kl
I took her online class and thought that she kept the material very interesting! It ended up being one of my favorites. Her lectures were long but I enjoyed what they were about. She does have kind of a lot of work but she is not too difficult and really helps you to enjoy what you are learning!
No lie, this was a great course and I really enjoyed the material. But look out for her. She's very opinionated and comes across very rude. I took her online course and she was constantly behind on our grading and she never had anything nice to say, to me anyway. To others-plenty. Seems to favor those who LIVE on BB-doesn't seem fair....
This teacher knows what she is talking about BUT very hard in her class! Be careful if your not into studying a lot. NEED to be in her class or you will regret it. A lot of good info!

Gena is freaking awesome. She will open your eyes to the other half of history. Her class is a breeze if you read the lectures and do the extra credit. I took her online. I think I got all but two points possible in the class. Thank you Gena! I hope your having a girl so you can teach her to kick butt like you!!!
Awesome class. I took this class online and everything was clear and up front. Most of the class is expressing your oppionion or just "duscussing" the readings so its an easy grade..
Gena Estep is one of the best teachers on campus. As long as you come to class and pay attention her class is a breeze. Tests are straight forward and as long as you look at your notes you'll do well. Always willing to give you help and advice. Might come off as a little rude but you just gotta know thats her style!
I think it would be a good idea to maybe throw in a paper and even a fun project or two during the semester. Your incredibly funny! Your lectures are interesting and down-to-earth. Also, get classmates together with group work or inclass assignments! I didnt feel connected w/ my female classmates in a womens study class. broaden class sisterhood.
shes awesome. her teaching style really engages you into her lectures. her lectures are extremely inspiring and i will never forget this class! although shes a bit unapproachable; her passion is what really makes you take something away from the class. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY.
I have no idea how she became a professor. She has her opinion and thats the only opinion that matters. People with anything other than a liberal almost to the point of communist point of view need not take this class. It should be called Communist class because she is so bias towards guys/conservative view points.stay away she is the worst teac
PLEASE DON'T take her class. She's horrible, opinionated, and arrogant. The class is interesting but she is NOT. She makes her class more difficult than chemistry. Her tests are extremely difficult and she doesn?t give extra credits no matter what. Find another professor for this class. TRUST ME!
Gena is one of the best professors I've come across. I took her for her excellent Hist. 27 class as well as 17B. I got an A in both classes and enjoyed every minute of them. It's ridiculous to say that you can't get a 10 on the QOTDs, I almost always did. Put some thought/effort into the class ad you'll do well. She's liberal, but I didn't mind.
This class requires attendance and participation. At times she can come off as condescending which makes it hard as a student to speak up in class, but I honestly think her passion for the subject is what drives her. I appreciate the Questions of the day and she did offer generous amounts of extra credit.
Gena is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and informative. There is no textbook, all handouts and lecture. The course was very enlightening and has changed the way I look at women and how women are treated today. Feminism was something I rolled my eyes over before but now it isn't that crazy. I think everyone should take this class.
She is one of my favorite professors. You have to work hard for your grade but it is worth it. Took her for History 1A and 27 online and I would take her again. She has a passion for history that shows in her teaching and draws you in. Must be a strong analytical writer, though. If you are not you will be at the end of this class.
So I am not sure what I really think about this prof. I enjoyed her lectures and thought I was understanding the assignments but there were times when her comments made it seem like I was not doing well. In the end I got an A so I'm guessing that she was just trying make me think more critically with her comments but instead they just confused me.
She is the most inspiring teacher I have ever had.. Can come across as intimidating at first but she will make a boring subject interesting! I hated history before and because of this teacher I decided to minor in history. Best advice: Come to class! Pay attention and take good notes. =)

Listen, if you don't want to go to class, take notes, or think critically, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Gena, is a passionate teacher, that isn't interested in your vomiting dates she already knows and calling it History. She expects you to think about what you are learning and participate. Take this class :)
She is an amazing teacher and is so dedicated about what she teaches. She doesn't use a textbook but you get a lot of handouts. You actually have to work and take a lot of notes in the class to do good. You cannot just slack off. Also you will have to be good at critical thinking and if you are not really work on it for her Question of the Days.
Dont listen to the haters. Gena is an incredible instructor. She has inspired me in so many ways. Come to class with an open mind, study for her tests, and actually *try* to be engaged in the course and she will appreciate it. You don't have to agree with her, but you do need to be ready to back up your statements with logic.
She gives too many packets and she gets off topic alot and its hard to understand what she is talking about! Not a good professor!
I love Gena! I took an online class of hers, and it was one of the hardest, yet most interesting classes I've taken to date. You really have to read everything she gives you, and truly think about the concepts. She is passionate about women's history, and inspired me to learn more about it..I highly recommend this class!
she is a good teacher but grades hard, very out spoken, but funny too. just hard on the grading but it is history.
Keep your head down, do the reading, take good notes and you will pass this class. If you have the same views as her, feel free to answer her questions during lecture. Other than that, it was a irritating class to sit through her bias options on Historic facts. Remember that the class is based on her view of the facts, and you'll do well.
I agree with some of the not so great reviews. She is very biased and clearly does not like it when anyone tries to disagree with her. She comes across as extremely rude and unprofessional. She does cut people off and make rude faces if she doesn't agree with what they're saying. Isn't college supposed to let you think for yourself?
She makes history fun and interesting because she tells it like a story. One of the only history classes that you write 4-5 short answer papers rather than a ten page report! You learn more because you are forced to use critical thinking. If you go to class, take good notes and do the study guides then the test are straight forward.
this class was the most difficult, unorganized, overwhelming, non stop reading, analyzing, pull-my-hair-out class I have ever taken. But, the most compelling, radical, eye-opening, liberal, intelligent, inspiring, political-theory-perspective instructor at sierra.
This calss had potential, but the teacher glossed over much of the interesting stuff in women's hist. Wasn't always logical but I would pick her over VanElls anytime! The best part I was looking forward to, how society views women today, was completed in less than an hour, and she seemed almost AFRAID to express her own opinions about modern soc.
Prior to taking this class I thought why not? An interesting history class for units. Professor Estep though made me fall in love with the material, she makes you want to come to class and to date her class has been my favorite through out college. it teaches you about the real world we live in.
I really loved this class, wasn't an easy A by any means but well worth it. If you appreciate profs who are genuinely passionate about what they teach and interesting class lectures, not just boring PP slides then take her. She's also pretty funny which is a plus. oh and i really loved the readings.
Gena is one of the most passionate profs I have ever taken a class with. She makes every moment memorable. She is so intelligent and knowing of what she is teaching. Wonderful class! You cannot miss a class, and do the reading.
Gena is an amazing teacher. I always left that class thinking. She's very funny and passionate about what she teaches. I Would take any history class with her.
Gena was amazing. I had zero interest in Women's History and thought I'd take it because I need History credit. This class inspired me in so many ways. There's lots of reading and you are expected to analyze but the headers of each topic are laid out for you to know what to write about. Not super easy but very informative.
I loved this class! Gena really changed my perspective of the world and she is hilarious. I would definitely recommend this class to everyone, regardless of gender. Make sure to write down most of what she says during lecture though, you will be tested on it. One of my favorite classes so far at Sierra.
NO TEXTBOOK. Now that I have your attention, let me say that this class was easily my favorite of the semester. It's a very interesting class and as long as you keep up on the readings (handout and online) you'll be just fine. She is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about the topic and it rubs off on the students
Easy class. Show up to every class to take notes on lectures. Tests come straight from lecture notes, and are fairly straightforward. Pay attention and it's an easy A. Few Short Answer pages (easy grader) and quizzes off of handouts (straightforward). Gives extra credit. Very entertaining lecturer. Boring topic, very entertaining professor.
Class is pretty straight forward. Lots of reading, and posting on discussion board. She's not very helpful when it comes to getting specific feedback on discussion board posts though. Not open to new sources of information either. Take are your own risk
Best teacher I've ever had. Very knowledgeable and inspiring. Gena has made a huge impact on my life. Very very entertaining and captivating lectures. I cannot stress enough how much I recommend her classes! I genuinely look forward to ever lecture. Not to much hw but attendance is crucial.
DON'T waste ur time with her. Great material but the way she grades is ridiculous. 1 mistake and she gives u half credit or no credit! She is never clear when assignments are due. Easiest material but trying to keep up with the way she grades is pointless. Missed assignments because she wasn't clear - I will be retaking with a better teacher!
Due dates are clear as can be in the syllabus. Readings and lectures are interesting. One discussion post per unit with two reply's. Reading quizzes every so often and a couple tests. She DOES read the posts and there are guidelines in the syllabus on how they are to be completed. No text book, she provides handouts, still plenty of reading.
I LOVE gena. she is the best teacher i have ever had. you dont use a book. she assigns readings weekly and gives quizzes every so often. she tells women's history as a story and captures everyone's attention.
Gena Estep is an amazing prof! I was dreading this class going into it because i've never been strong in history, but she made me actually look forward to going to class! she is super funny and tells history like an actual story instead of just boring textbook stuff. She could probably be a stand up comedian if she wanted to be. Take her class!!
By far the best class I've ever taken. Gena is absolutely phenomenal. As long as you attend class, read the articles, and study for the tests you'll be fine. I really enjoyed her lectures. I actually wanted to go to this class!
I have had a 4.0 throughout college and despite my efforts to learn this subject, she made it almost impossible to maintain an A. My discussion boards were lengthy, well thought out, edited and intelligent but the grade never reflected that, with no response to why. I never knew what I was missing and all emails weren't responded to not ever.
When this semester first started I was stoked only because she seemed really nice, and her lessons were inspirational and fun. But, if she wants to be rude and make you feel like your opinion and voice doesn't matter that's her. Which I find confusing for someone who is teaching about the horrible people in our past history.
Oh... Never again do i want to come across Gena. I came in that class expecting what the reviews praised her about. I found out the opposite. She is by far the rudest teacher I'v come across at sierra. She's not afraid to call you out and make you feel like you should have just skipped that class. 4 quizzes and 2 tests thats it.. keep looking
I hope that my review will encourage students to not take gena. Extremely rude, opinionated, and gives no help or feedback. This class is for students who like to read a lot, and self teach themselves. If you don't agree with her you're invisible to her. Lectures are not organized and hard to follow with the class. Very disappointed
Gena really challenges your thoughts to make them better. She is so much fun and a little inappropriate sometimes, but it's funny. I don't like history, but I liked this class because the way we discussed them felt like a conversation instead of just memorization. She gives wonderful outlines that help a lot and study guides for the finals.
Gena kept her lectures really kept your interest! The tests are very easy as well. Read the material and answer the discussion material as indicated and you will pass! Although I didn't put in as much effort as I should have I still managed to pass with a A. Great class, would definitely take her class again.
Gena is amazing and my fav professor. She is honest, and sarcastic. Her passion for history is what makes her lectures interesting. She only offers extra credit for the study guides. If you show up, listen to her lectures, take good notes and do the study guides to study for the tests, you will pass. Her tests come straight from the outline
If you like history this is the class for you. She is passionate about the subject and will change everything you thought you knew about Women's History. There is no textbook so coming to class and taking notes are a must. If you are a good note taker you will be fine. Find study buddies just in case you miss something while taking notes!
Gena is absolutely one of the best teachers at Sierra & I took this class just apart of GE. She has great lectures & I'm so glad I took her class instead of online! I dreaded taking any history class but she is amazing at her job and is very entertaining! 2 extra credit opportunities that help you prep for midterm & final; only two big tests!
Disagree with her and she will treated you like you don't exist. Just act like you love women and women history, you will be fine. I can't wait for this semester to be over with. She doesn't grade clearly. She's rude too.
I loved Womens Studies with Prof. Estep. I highly recommend her. Not only is this such a good class, she's an amazing and very funny teacher. Her personality is probably my favorite thing about the class, and how she presents the material.
A great human being, but stuck up professor! I loved her gathered materials, but the fact that you missed a class and messed up your grade was really bummer for me. She is a very fair grader and is clear on both lectures and her rules and regulations. Attendance is a must! Get a recorder for best results. Overall, I would take her again, she's fun!
Very opinionated and even mentions it on her 100 facts about me handout she had the students go over on the first day of class. She also left student reviews on the last classwork we turned in with mine having good student but talks too much written next to my grade. Totally not ok and could have been omitted.
If you need an easy A, take Gena Estep. Her class is incredibly easy, you can submit late work until the very end of the semester with no repercussions. However, if you want to have a pleasant, interesting, and have your time feel worthwhile, don't bother. She is incredibly opinionated, loud, and is first an activist and second a historian.
Tough grader who is very picky on how your assignments are done no matter how much time you put into your assignments. Very opinionated in her teachings which seems to cause bias in her lessons.
