Great teacher, great class. Gena makes an interesting subject even better. Several quizzes and exams but study sheets are perfect and lots of extra credit options. I loved this class and would highly recommend!

Eccentric. Gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. Makes learning fun and interesting, never a dull moment in class. She'll sing to you the notes she composes into songs. Notes count for 90% of exams, no need to buy big text book...save money =)

She is an energetic, funny, cute teacher. She is very helpful with the materials and allows student discussions in class. This class is full of fun and suprises. The test is very easy, straight forward, no need to study for text at all.

She sings for you and is very loud at times. Nice lady, her tests and quizes are straight foward, no tricks. More extra credit than you would actually ever need, easy A. She expects you to have an open mind but I do not think she has one.

She does had a big ego. Notice how she NEVER makes eye contact with her students. Talks to the wall. Hasn't done any fieldwork yet thinks she knows everything. Class isn't hard. Just take good notes but her ego can frustrate even though it can get amusing

Bubbly...too bubbly for 7am. Easy class though and she's kinda hot. She loves New Guinea and its native Trobrianders and nothing is taboo.

her class is very easy, she loves teaching and sometimes she gets so into it that it's annoying but it's better than some boring teacher who hates their job

her voice is very irritating at first but you sorta get used to it after 8 weeks or so. She kinda grows on you, too. Easy class, easy A. Take notes, do all the extra credits, and try to study from the test outline and you're guarenteed atleast a B.

Hollander is a good teacher. Pay attetion, take notes, and you will do fine. She gets a bit crazy sometimes but its all cool.

don't buy the book, you won't need it. don't really need the article book either. ez class just have to read your notes and pay attention to minor details in the notes for extra credit questions. dont sweat it if you get B or C on tests extra credit will bring your grade up. lots of xtra credit

Anthro is really boring but this teacher is kinda crazy so the class can be fun at times. Don't buy the book, but take good notes and do all the extra credit and you have an easy A.

Boy is she hot! Sometimes I have a hard time concentrating on the material, depending on what she wears to class. Took her in the morning and she sure did wake me up! Very flirty and uses a lot of inuendo, but all in the name of academia right? Want to be stimulated aurally and intellectually? Take Gena's class.

Considering the course material,this class went by very quick. Gena is always into whatever she's teaching and makes it interesting.It was like having Leah Remini teach the class - very entertaining! She offers a lot of extra credit and the tests aren't super difficult. She writes on the overhead exactly what she wants in your notes, pretty simple!

Interesting teacher. Very energetic and passionate about anthropology. Quizzes are easy. Tests are easy, if you remember to study. I have no interest in anthropology whatsoever, but the class isn't completely boring.

I will NEVER FORGET her energy and passion! I commented her once saying how much I miss her class and that all my other teachers were boring and lifeless; told her she stood out from the rest and said "that is very sweet of you" :-) It's passionate and energetic teachers like this one that will make your day. HS teachers should learn from her too!

Gena is so much fun to listen to! She is totally laid back and is so passionate about the subject that you can't help but be interested. Just take notes and use the study guide and her tests are easy.

She's funny and easy going. This class is not that hard. All you have to do is memorize all the notes and take the test then you'll get an A. I didn't even buy the book and I got an A.

Very animated, but over-annunciates like we're ESL children. Most of what she lectures about are on the tests, but if it's in the book, she'll talk about it in class anyway. You would need the IQ less than that of a brick in order to not get an A in this class.

She's a good teacher, lots of note taking to be done. she seems to have lots of energy everytime she lectures which i think thats nice, it keeps the class awake and not get bored out! must try to get an A/B otherwise u'll pass. tests are sometimes tricky so study ur notes very WELL; overall not a bad teacher!

She is a good teacher. Do all the extra credit for insurnace purposes! If you attend all classes and take THOROUGH notes you should have an easy time getting an A. Don't bother to buy the books unless you are just interested in the subject or if you plan to miss class periods so need something to back up what you missed.

her voice sent me to get something for my headache on more than one occasion. she screams/stresses words like "the" and "it" in her lectures for no apparent reason. she does more to SHOCK you with obscure, tangent, facts so you'll think Anth is cool than teach you anything. if you listen and pay attention expect an A and blood from the ears

This was a very intersting class with not a huge workload. Only a few assignments, reading, one project, and tests to be done. She gets pretty specific on the tests but it's never anything she doesn't prepare you for. She's a cute little lady with an intesting teaching style. She also teaches you in song every once in a while. It is a fun class.

Hollander is one of the funnest teachers at OCC, i took the class in summer, and it was beyond the easiest and funnest course. She's wacky and energetic and the homework are crossword puzzles, could it get any easier? the material mixed with this proffesor made my summer session fly by.

i took this class over the summer. it's an easy and interesting class. there are some facts that will shock u. she's easy, helpful, funny. there were only 2 crosswords for hw. few readings. take good notes and u'll do good on tests. do all extra credits. and u for sure will get an A.

Very nice with a great sense of humor. Notes are given to you on the overhead. Make sure you write everything down and study it. No need to read the book unless you are doing the xword puzzles. Really recommend this class! The material is very interesting and the class is really easy. Don't need the book, but it is really important to attend every class b/c all of the test comes from her lecture notes. It isn't a good idea to miss the tests, bc the essay you do instead she grades hard. I think she is really good and easy 2 understand!

Prof. Hollander puts her heart and soul into teaching. She is very interesting and I loved her class.

Good instructor. Mellow class, not much homework and what she does give you only takes 5-10 minutes. LOTS of extra credit opportunities, TAKE ADVANTAGE of them. Only drawback is she goes from talking to SHOUTING without warning. She is awesome tho!

Gena's super nice and she's funny! She's not monotone and uses a lot of expression to keep students awake. She provides lots of interesting info. I took her Intersession course. Study the in-class notes ALOT! Her tests basically mirror them. And don't miss the quiz. Every quiz question will appear on the test and she gives TONS of extra credit.

professor hollander is an amazing teacher. she relates everything to our everyday world. she's very knowledgeable and approachable. she also gives students many opportunities to pick up extra points. make sure you study for the exams, there's a lot of information to remember. highly recommended.

She was the BEST teacher to get an introduction into the world of Anthropology! I had little interest in this field prior to taking the course, now I am seriously considering Majoring in Anthropology. Very passioniate about the field/industry and very nice and respectful of her students. Take her if you need an ANTHRO course or just curious.

I took her class early in the morning so it was a little hard to sit there and take pages of notes, but at least her lectures are clear. It's obvious she's passionate about what she's doing. Just be willing to take the notes and look over 'em once in awhile and you're good to go. I slept through most of the class and got an A.

I had to move to back of the room to prevent getting a headache from her voice. On the tests you have to know which tribes did what. You will not need the book, but you can't really miss notes in class. However, there is plenty of extra credit

RiDIculously easy class. She goes really slowly over-explains sometimes, but that's good. Her voice is a little grating, haha, but she's super sweet and offers TONS of extra credit. I never even bought the book and got over a 100% in the class. It's all lecture notes (which you copy from the overhead haha) and handouts. Take her!

EASY A! Tests are straight from the notes DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. My friend gave me the notes from last semester and they were pretty much the same so i just sat there day dreaming. Plenty of EC. If you don't get an A in the class then you are just being LAZY!

Easy Teacher. I would recommend attending class and taking good notes because most of the quizes and exams are based on in class lectures. Gives out a lot of extra credit so its easy to score an A in her class. Service Learning extra credit is a must.

I took Prof. Hollander for the intersession and it was extremely easy. Her lectures are mildly amusing and she is a great instructor. Her accent isn't heavy but some may find it annoying. Review your notes before the test. Oh and there is a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Very very easy A! Even if u get bad grade on exam, you could still get an A by doing extra credits- she offers looots of easy extra credits! Make FCs from notes for an easy A. Txtbooks are unnecessary. Right down random details in lct if you want to get EC @ end of exams :)

This professor was so much fun! She was hilarious, and the class was super easy, I think I got over a 100% that's how easy it was. Take her you won't regret it!

AMAZING!!! I loved her class, - shes hilarious and she gives you so many extra credit opportunities! My biggest recommendation is that on test make sure you know the examples of the materials, she really wants to make sure you know what cultures practice the learned material.

GREAT teacher. Make sure you show up every day and she appreciates people who participate but doesn't mock you if you are wrong (like monica brothos). Awesome Professor - received a B but if you take more time into studying her notes and following her lessons in class an A is not impossible - she also offers extra credit by visiting museums or summaries of articles related to the topic - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PROFESSOR

Physical anthro was an interesting course. It was not my favorite, but i needed it for G.E. The reason I passed the class was because of all the extra credit opportunities she gave! Tests are not hard if you actually study and remember the stuff she covered during class. Overall class is easy if you study!!

I'm taking her right now. She IS very very organized!!! There are tons of information she covers during every lecture class and she has piles of articles to show, which is what makes the lecture more interesting. She is extremely educated and passionate in this field which makes her lectures so intersting!! Take her!

Easy but unorganized despite teaching for 19 years. Why make us go to blackboard to get our notes?? Photocopy them and make us jot them in class! She jumps around during lecture so it's hard to write notes in a coherent manner & super annoying when she raises her voice & says "NEW GUINEA!!!"

she is cool i had her this pass spring do the extra credit really helps and save/ take all the notes in class really helps on test and the test are pretty hard and her wording on the test is very very tricky so study very very hard and you will do well and get on her good side and u can get a better grader like talk to her she is a awesome teacher!

Best teacher i've ever had. Hilarious and outgoing, goes into detail on everything you cover and makes it interesting/fun to learn. Looked forward to her class every day.

I took Gena for physical anthropology last spring. As long as you do the assignments and the extra credit, take notes (she usually posts a lot of hers on blackboard), and read a little bit from the book, you'll get a decent grade. She gives many extra*extra credit opportunities and also regular extra credit. Lots of fun!!!!!

Gena is such a sweetie! The class is easy and interesting. THere's a mandatory field trip to bowers and tons of EC to be had. Pay close attention to the seemingly random facts she spouts off in class, they're the answers to EC questions on the tests!

She is a great teacher, very funny and personable. She tells you exactly what you need to do in order to pass her class. TONS of extra credit opportunities. Do all extra credit get decent scores on exams and make sure to do the homework (which there isn't much of) and you will def pass!

exams are off the notes that she gives u in her lectures. reading the textbook is not mandatory to get an A. just borrow someone's else's book for the crosswords

Really easy class. She gives lots of extra credit, as long as you do the homework, go to the mandatory field trip to bowers and check out the study guide you will have no problem getting a B. Prof is funny but her voice just drills into your brain. Class is interesting, but she always goes on tangents and ends up talking about injustices to women.

A wonderful teacher. I enjoyed her class so much that I never wanted to take a day off. She really knew what she was talking about. I learned a lot from her. Her exams are really easy if you understand her lessons and take notes in class! She is one of my favorite prof at OCC

Didn't have much interest in the subject. It was just a transfer requirement for me. But she is good as a professor. Keeps us informed and gives good lecture notes for exams.

Gena is wonderful. I'm currently taking her cultural anthro class and she makes it really fun. I hate that people say this is an easy class, it's not that it is easy she simply loves what she is teaching and teaches in a way that makes it hard to forget. If you go to class, you'll pass the class! It's as easy as that!!!!

What a wonderful human being! I sincerely loved going to class to hear what funny, insightful, and interesting things she had to say. Even if you hate anthropology, you will love this class. She offers tons of extra credit and teaches the material in a way that gets you excited about it. But she also helps you think in new ways. Take her!

FAVORITE class at occ! LOVED professor Hollander!!! She makes class fun and is extremely enthusiastic. 1 fieldtrip to bowers museum, 4 quizzes-she drops lowest score, 2 exams and a final. 2 hw assignments- she allows 6 people to do it together. She gives you a study guide for everything. EASIEST CLASS EVER!

Loved Professor Hollander..class is so interesting I never wanted to miss a day. However, tests and quizzes are very tough, you have to put in a LOT of studying time. Offers a lot of extra credit. Didn't use the book once, everything in the tests come from the class notes. If you put a lot of time into studying, and do the hw, you will be fine.

Best teacher I had so far. Very funny, keeps you on your toes. Just do the study guides and you pay attention in her class you should get an A. I took her cultural class and physical Anthro class A's across the board. She maid the class very interesting. She has no ego teachers at OCC should take lessons how to teach from her. She is spunky and keeps things interesting. Only used the book once. Sometimes her lectures can be scattered. She puts everything on Blackboard but i recommend still taking notes. Test are difficult. Offers extra credit. Overall, i would recommend taking her.

Her class may seem easy through her lectures but her tests are bloody hard. She'll test you on anything and everything that she discussed through class. She does offer a large sum of extra credit so that is quite beneficial. 3 tests and hw plus a zoo trip

Ms. Hollander is a great teacher who enjoys the subject she teaches and is kind and funny, take her class!! There are 4 quizzes, 11 questions on each quiz, you can drop the one with the lowest score. There are 3 exams with 50 questions. Do take notes as all the questions on the 3 exams come from her lectures. Lots of extra credit.

Save yourself a few dollars and don't buy the textbook. You'll never use it. All her notes are on blackboard, you honestly don't even need to attend her class, she reads off her notes. Easy A, a lot of extra credit, one field trip, funny teacher.

You don't even have to buy an expensive textbook. She has notes and that's all you need to study. If you study her notes, you'll get an A. It seems like people tend not to study and end up failing since they don't try thinking it's easy. Please! Don't take advantage of her kindness. If you've never had an A, this might be your first A. lol

She's a lovely teacher. Very passionate in what she teaches. She also gives a lot of extra credit. However, this class is srsly overflowing with information. It's A LOT of memorization. The tests aren't a piece of cake. One must commit time and effort to study for her tests. She's a great teacher nonetheless. She's funny, too.

Easy class! You do not need the book! I got an A+ without using the book. Show up to class and take down notes plus the little things she says about the articles and stuff. She gives out a lot of extra credit. I got like a 105% Make sure u read over the notes like 3-4 times before the test and make sure u know what every person and every tribe does

First class I ever took at OCC and I got an A+ without even trying. Super easy class, just read over your notes and you will get an A. Don't buy the textbook you don't need it.

My first semester in college & i've got to admit, this is the ONLY class that i look forward going to, even though i find anthro boring.. Gena is hilarious & understanding. I would say, easy A. She is not strict, but that is where many kids lack & don't attend class, which result in a lower grade. But i recommend her dearly. No need for books!

Easiest class I've ever taken. Didn't read at all, aced all the tests w/ minimal study time (just re-read notes). TONS of extra credit opportunities. Got perfect scores on almost all of my assignments. Just a really easy course. She's funny, but unorganized. Check your grades if you think one is wrong.

Uhm, I read so many reviews claiming this class was sooo easy. No to those statements. This class was ridiculously hard because so much material to memorize, but she is a great teacher. I love her sense of humor & enthusiasm. Gives so much extra credit thankfully, but wow, memorizing material for this class was a workout each time.

Hollander is really fun. She takes on voices when discussing the material that makes it stick in your head, does sing-a-longs, and gives extra credit for going to museums. Great professor.

everyone who says this class is hard is not trying at all. if you come to class and listen to the lectures, you can at least get a B. i would recommend going to the museum with the class so you dont have to go by yourself and do the worksheet which takes up extra time

i would recommend going to each lecture and do all the extra credits. she seriously gives like 10% of extra credit. i ended up with like a 105% at the end of the semester without even using the book

Very enthusiastic professor, she lectures very well! I took the Winter Session course, and was rarely bored even though this was a 3 hour per day class. Whatever is on the notes is on the exam. You don't need the textbooks. She offers A LOT of extra credit. Probably close to 75 extra credit points. Test were easy A if you studied the notes.

LOVED Gena's class! by far my favorite teacher! I had no interest in Anthropology before taking her class, but she is such a great teacher! I never bought the book and still got an A. Take notes on all the newspaper clippings because that's mostly what the test is about. Take this class!

Great teacher! She has loads of information and is very helpful. It is a large lecture hall, but if you approach her before or after class she is happy to help you out. Attendance helps, but I missed a few classes and did just fine. Write done everything and pay attention and you'll get an easy A. I would recommend this as a summer course fer sure.

I found the class extremely interesting. She is funny and it made the learning easier than I thought. Gives tons of extra credit. She doesnt use the text book, but if you don't show up to class, you're screwed. Her tests are strictly based off the notes. (Even the little details you might not think are important). Perfect summer course.

I took her for both cultural and biological anthropology; she makes the class very interesting and has an adorable NY accent. If you are open to learn about new culture and what our ancestors did, you should consider taking her. She's one of the most generous professors at OCC. Write good notes and study hard; you'll earn the grade you deserve.

Shes an absolute joy! Taking her class will make you stop being so ETHNOCENTRIC! Shes super funny and will give the best examples ever that will help you remember stuff better. I took this class during the summer so it'll go by fast. So far one of the easiest class I have taken. Take a bunch of notes. Test are based on all of her notes.

Amazing teacher, I took her in summer! She is funny, has all her notes organized, there are a lot of notes, lectures aren't usually boring, laptops allowed, and her tests are based off her in-class notes. There is a ton of extra credit options, mostly on her tests so pay attention to everything she talks about, even examples.

I took her cultural anthro class over the summer and loved it. She is lively and eccentric to say the least, so class goes by quick. Exams are entirely based on her lecture and the articles discussed during lecture. She gives plenty of extra credit, no reason to not get an A. I never had to use the textbook or the Annual Editions.

Her tests (3) are fair, A TON OF EXTRA CREDIT. Easy Class, STAY ON TOP OF DATES. If you don't, you may walk one day into class not knowing there was a quiz/test because she give announcements the first 2 minutes of class. Her lectures are funny, and will keep you awake. Dont skip class because every class has something on the test.

Really easy A. Her tests are based on lecture and some of the videos she shows. You could go w/o the textbooks. It's just more in depth info, interesting, but not necessary to pass. She is unorganized however and is not up to date with technology. Expect to read a lot of old, worn articles that are out of date.

She makes me love anthropology. Great professor! Her lectures are clear and helpful, even if you just listen, you will remember 60% of it. It helps to do quizzes and tests.

Gena is an amazing! Don't be fooled, this is not an easy A. Be ready to take lots of notes. Notes are posted on BB. Gena really cares about her students, and is always available for questions. She offers a lot of extra credit and this will literally allow you a whole letter grade bump if you do every EC offered. She tells you exactly what's on test

Gena is passionate about anthropology!! Makes it fun. We had 4 quizzes. 11 questions. He question was worth 3 points. So be careful. One quiz gets thrown out. We had 3 exams 50 questions with extra credit sheet. (All test Non-cumulative). Exams on lecture. We had one field trip to the Bowers museum. fun!! offers max 20 pt ec sum. Didn't use book!

(I took the summer class) I took her Cultural Anthropology course and was astonished by how passionate she felt about what she was teaching. The course was note-heavy from power-points, but it was also the key to passing the class. She also gives out 30+ points of extra credit. It's difficult to not get an A if you do the Xtra credit.

Take notes and study her examples carefully. She gives tons of extra credit to save your grade.

She is the best professor out there! Hands down. So much extra credit, I don't know how you could fail. She cares so much about Anthropology, she made me fall involve with the subject!

This class was really easy LMAO... Took it as a junior in High School and didn't even get the book. Study her lecture notes. Pay attention in lecture and you are chilling. Do this and you will get an A. She might be dull sometimes, but overall the class is really fun. You get to learn about the weirdest stuff in this class. Weird interesting

Show up to class and pay attention during lectures. Her exams quizzes are very detailed. Honestly not that hard to get an A if you study hard and do the extra credit (she's always offering EC). Didn't really need the book I only used it for one assignment.

Only took notes from her lectures, never bought the book, and was able to pass all her tests/quizzes! She gives you a chance to turn in extra credit before every exam. Even though it's 5 points and you think you won't need it at the beginning of the semester, DO IT. I was a borderline A and having that extra cushion would have saved a lot of stress

She gives so much extra credit! Its not hard to do and is a major grade bump. She is such a sweetheart and really cares about all of her students! Her tests arent the easiest but all her notes are posted online, so I printed them out and added her extra points which made studying 10x easier. One of my favorite classes by far!

its an easy A class! she doesnt accept late homework at all, her notes are clear, so many extra credits, but her exams are a little bit hard, you have to study at least two nights before the exam!

She tries to make us get higher grade and gives some extra credit opportunities. She posts her notes on Canvas for us. She doesn't go too fast. She teaches with appropriate and clear voice volume. She responds to our emails quickly. She is the instructor who should be highly respected.

You can tell she is very passionate about anthropology. Her lectures are focused heavily on real world examples and quizzes/exams are reasonably easy if you just take basic notes. She's pretty funny and engages actively with her students. Offers a lot of extra credit and there's very little homework. Overall, an easy but informative class.
