good inspirational speaker, made an impression on me. Could be more available
awful class. every lecture was the exact same. he said the same things every day

Who needs this motivation speech? Teach us useful stuff!! Labs are the only useful part.

great personality
Excellent Speaker -- sometimes a bit unstructured but he makes it clear what you need to remember. Easy class (got an 'A').
Easy going
He is the most inspirational and motivational speaker I have ever encountered in acedemia.
Great speaker, bad teacher, terrible advisor.
Greatest motivational class at BG! He is the man, but not available to help.
Great speaker, bad teacher. He is a smart man and knows what's what, but not really there for you. The class was easy, but I learned almost nothing, I don't want life lessons I want skills.
He is one of a kind. I feel that everyone should have this man as a teacher at some point or another. You truly learn some of the most valuable life lessons that you probably would not hear elsewhere. He also makes it easy to recieve a good grade. He is hard to get ahold of. He's awesome.
he's an inspiration for all of us... what a great guy!
Good lecture guy, bad teacher. Always kinda made me feel depressed when I came out of his class. Hes a smart guy, and very knowledgable, but just can't relate to students sometimes. Take him though, hes a good guy
as most on here have said he's a great speaker. But he can't help you at all with the labs because he doesn't know the programs. Try to get a good TA for the lab and with that an A shouldn't be too hard.
Dr. Poor is a very smart guy. Good guy too. Not so sure what hes trying to teach sometimes, but he actually cares about you and wants you to do well. He really enjoys what hes doing.
all he does is the lecture, what he teaches not sure. but his stories are funny. just don't fall asleep or talk constantly during his class or he'll point you out and make you look like a dumb @$$
I took both 103 and 204 and I seriously thought I was taking the same class twice. He teaches the exact same thing in 103 in 204. The class was easy but I learned nothing new. He is a good motivational speaker but he is never there to help....but he is seems to be an extremely busy man.
The classes I had with Dr. Poor are now called VCT 103 and 104, I believe. Anyway, Dr. Poor rocks.

He's just awesome! He's like a Life Guru or something...
AMAZING The best prof here by far too many people take him for granit

as everyone has pretty much said -- great speaker. i sometimes don't know where he's going with things, but it's just fun listening to him. so if you have the choice to take him, go for it!
The man is insane, seriously. VCT is a cult and if you're majoring in it, you need to get out. I'm not even kidding.
best prof i've ever had. if you're looking for modivation, this is it.
Loved his classes. Made me think about life after school. Classes weren't hard--as long as you got the assignments done. I walked out w/ an A easy for both his classes. Was also my advisor--didn't have a lot of time to meet but when i really needed his help he was there.
This dude is a blow-hard. He talks a lot but says little.
Any class taken with this guy is exactly the same. All he does is quote from self-help and motivational books. The text for one of his classes was a Kinko's promotional magazine. Seriously! The magazine said how Kinko's is your one place for anything. Anyway, he's apparently retired so you don't have to take him anymore.
Very good teacher, more of a motivator however. Loves to talk and tells good stories. Assignments can be tedious, but he looks for effort more than perfection. However, if you do acheive perfection, you'll do fine.
Such a great professor. I loved to sit and listen to his advice!
Very easy lectures never really had to go, only to review for the final and the midterm other than that go to the first class and the last class!
I learned little from Poor, I learned WAY more from Travis and my TAs from lab. Kudos to them.
Amazing teacher. Amazing lectures. Favorite teacher yet.
BGSU is a hopeless school and the VCT program is one of the worst they offer. Poor was a good guy himself, but the VCT program he created is a giant waste of time and effort. I left that crap and I'm glad I did, there's better opportunities out there than that. Don't trust your livelihood to this idiotic program!
Such a jerk. Not at all nice or helpful outside of the classroom. Patronizing and rude. Unethical. Became a teacher just to con foolish college kids into working for him for free. You should read his book though; "It's your nightmare, and I'm Freddy Kreuger"
Poor is a great lecturer but the lab part of the class is horrible. Fight for your grades that the lab instructors give you. I am a 4.0 student and was wary of getting a B in the class. Look through the slide shows they provide for the quizzes--I think those are what kill students' grades the most.
Lectures were not the most exciting thing, but class was alright.
Best professor BG has
Best professor BG has, everyone needs to take this class at BG
The class is a very easy A. He grades homework on whether or not you did it, and his exams(more like quizes), are not hard at all. Despite all of this, you will learn a lot if you take this course with him. The guys a multi-millionare, business tycoon, He tells you what you need to know. I recomend taking this course especially if your a BA major
This was the best class I have ever taken. It's called "Intro to Entrepreneurship", but it should probably be called "How to Be Successful at Life". Poor is absolutely fantastic. Life-changing class; should be universally mandatory!
Poor is a good guy and a very obviously wise man. He's done well for himself, but I think his pride shows through a bit too much in the classroom setting. He's obviously successful, but people don't take the class to hear stories! You can learn a lot more by reading his books than listening to him lecture.
Don't take it personally if he doesn't have much interest in you because You didn't make a point to think out loud in class! He's a very popular man around BGSU So if you're looking to get some time with him, you'd better give him a good reason! with age, comes wisdom! read his books!
DON'T EVER TEXT OR TALK ON YOUR CELL PHONE - he will throw your stuff out of the room and kick you out
The most important thing I learned in his class was "how not to treat people". I watched the way he treated others and observed his behaviors. It was quickly evident that Poor was indeed not there for the students, rather a different agenda. A total embarrassment to BGSU. He can certainly "talk the talk", but can't "walk the walk".
Dr. Poor is doing no good for the university and students. Read other comments - it's clear he isn't bringing anything new or unique to the university. Using the same course materials for several different classes doesn't do much for the students or for the university in that matter. Seems as though someone should check into this.
Had him for 204 & 304. Positives: Brilliant speaker, very motivational and optimistic, educated in his field(s), cares about students, easy classes. Negatives: Every class with him is the same. Take one, and you've taken them all. Also, still doesn't know how to pronounce my name properly and I've worked with him one-on-one on multiple projects.
I feel like he doesn't care for the students. Like I've talked to him many times and like he didn't seem to listen! So this is my 3rd time having him as a teacher and like all the other comments say take one class and you have taken them all. I texted like all the time in his classes and he never knew. But just don't get caught - he can get mad.
Good speaker, but every class is the same making it boring regardless. Doesn't take attendance, but assigns a constant flood of busywork/homework which make any absence a shot in the foot. Also, explanation for what the expectations are in your projects is minimal.
If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. If you want to learn, the same goes. He gives a good pep talk, but doesn't teach anything or even explain project requirements/guidelines. Also, attend every day b/c there's always a paper being assigned or due, and he won't accept late papers.
Sooooo overrated. He isn't all that.
His greatest passion in life seems to be money. Talks alot about it and how he knows some rich people. Thinks alot of himself...constantly bragging. Don't take this class if you want to learn something. If BGSU cares about having quality professors, they should get rid of him
His class is really easy. I enjoy going to class and if you participate you learn something and he will like you. Doesn't explain a lot of the work, but he emphasizes being creative so he pretty much accepts whatever you turn in. Tons of points and teaches with real life examples. I'd take again for sure!
Best teacher ever! Funny funny man. If you sit in the front row, you get an A, if you fall asleep, you will get yelled at. Easy, 87% is an A, only had to take one exam, barley studied=A. still an interesting class. I recommend to anyone and everyone
This professor uses a different teaching technique that allow for different types of learners to learn his material easily. He has visual aids, a text and he teaches like he is having a conversation with you. I reccommend taking a class with Prof. Poor it will be a good experience.
While, after taking the class, I know I've learned a lot, it was hell going through this class. He drones on and on about his "has-beens" and rarely leaves room for positives. His intro to entrepreneurship is a decent class, just be prepared to have nothing to do in class.
He knows how to pull the creative side out of you. He pushes you out of your comfort zone and unlocks your imagination to its fullest potential. Fun projects too! Definitely take this class and be creative!
Good guy. Make sure you show up to his class and participate a bit cause then he will grade your shuff easier. He is there to help if you want it.
Dr. Poor's unique teaching technique is great; class is more of a conversation rather than a lecture. He's passionate about what he does and relates well with the students. Participate in class and get to know him. He brings real life learning experiences to the classroom--if he doesn't motivate you, know one will. He's a fantastic instructor.
Great teacher. Very funny and keeps the class entertained. Class is very easy as long as you go and do the papers that are due every day; if you do them you get 100 points. I recommend this prof.
Very simple. Guy he is older and stopped caring what people thought about him a long time ago. People don't do well when they miss class or don't do all the little assigments. Very consistant. Watch videos/speakers on onde day and turn in homework and lecture on the other day. normally meet twice a week. Big on finding/being a mentor for students.
My favorite teacher I have had since being at BG. Funny, but do not take him lightly, he will call you out without warning. Great guy and and easy class to take as long as you go and do the work you will probably get a great grade.
He is wonderful! Best professor I have ever had. He is so engaging in the classroom and makes it easy to love the subject. He has a lot of energy and changes up the norm in the classroom.
Great professor. Personable, enthusiastic and offers great insight from his own personal experiences. If you have a chance to take this class, even if you aren't interested in Entrepreneurship, I'd highly recommend it! :)
Teaches you more in one class time then most other classes teach you all semester. Makes you think all though there are assignments after most classes it is normally a paragraph of your own opinion. Overall everyone should take his class.
Gene Poor is the best professor I have had at BG! He always keeps the attention of his students (and if he doesnt, he goes all hulk on them :). The assignments are all short, and the tests are easy if you pay attention. If you have the chance to take his class, do it!
Absolutely the best professor at BGSU. Enjoy the easiest A and best life-lesson this school has to offer.
Great professor and learned a lot and it's defiantly a class that I would recommend. His class is fun class and he gets your attention. Overall, A++++
OUTSTANDING PROFESSOR! WOULD RECOMMEND POOR TO ANYONE. USES REAL-WORLD EXAMPLES THAT WILL IMPACT YOUR CAREER!
You haven't lived if you've never had a class with this man. He is entertaining, funny, interesting, and all of the above. You're never bored in his class, but BE WARNED, he isn't afraid to HUMILIATE you in front of the entire class for sleeping or being on your phone. Best prof I've ever had. 1110
Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't teach anything. He just has you write paper on videos you watch in class. Also, he talks way to much about himself. If you actually want to go into business, his class is pointless. Wouldn't recommend taking his class at all.
There just aren't any words to describe him. To say that he is the worst instructor at BGSU is an extreme understatement. I took absolutely nothing from his class an his lectures will bore you out of your mind. Awful.
Dr. Poor is my favorite professor at BG. There was never a day where I was not excited to go to his class. He is am amazing lecturer and this class inspired me to add Entrepreneurship as a second minor. This is a class worth taking at BGSU and if you're looking for the inspirational professor you see in movies, Dr. Poor is pretty close to that.
Awesome professor. Inspirational speaker. Would take again.
Poor is the best professor that I have had in a long time. He is smart and willing to help all his students. If you do not put in the effort than do not expect for him to either. If you know him and he knows that you try as well as come to class, he will help you with anything you need.
He is honestly one of my favorite professors at BGSU! If you really want to learn something and get something out of a class, even if its not your minor then take his class. His work load is super easier you just have to do the minimum work he requires and come to the lectures. I recommend everyone take one his courses just once
Has expertise in the field he is teaching, that's about as far as it goes. If you're not a business student, good luck getting his attention. And definitely try not to fall asleep in class. I witnessed him humiliate a student more than once for "falling asleep". He threw a student out on the first day of class for sleeping.
Dr. Poor is my all-time favorite professor. He is supportive, and if you put effort into his class, he takes notice. He's more than fair in his grading. His lectures are inspirational and he really knows what he is talking about. He has become like family to me in just a semester, and because of him I have decided to minor in entrepreneurship.
Dr. Poor is great! Funny, dynamic professor who taught me a great deal about entrepreneurship.
If you ever decide to take a course in entrepreneurship you better sign up for his class! One of my professors hands down! Attendance isn't mandatory, but there is no book and the study materials come from his slides during class.
One of the greatest teachers I have had at BG. Will encourage you to think out of the box and has great stories/insight. If you do the work, easy A class.
Be ready to write lots of papers, but you will use the textbook once maybe twice but theyre good reads. He is a very passionate professor and shows good videos. Go to class or you won't be able to write papers about videos we watched in class
There's nothing quite like having skeevy Gene Poor's teaching style. His lectures are basically just a weird homage to himself, and all the amazing funny one-liners he thought up 40 years ago. If this class isn't mandatory, DO NOT TAKE IT.
Gene is the best teacher I've had at BGSU, students who say his class is hard are the same kids who put no effort into his class (didn't show up). The first lecture I attended, he got a standing ovation! He's one of the most brilliant, creative, generous, and inspiring people I've ever met. Anyone who gets to attend his class, is truly blessed.
Such an awesome charismatic teacher. He introduced me to many inspirational people. The bulk of your grade is writing 1-2 paragraph elevator papers after videos so it's fairly easy. He teaches about the entrepreneurial spirit and how to be creative, not just about the business side. His online lectures were funny too. Brings real experience too!
Right off the bat, I was terrified of Dr. Poor. He likes to yell and talk about himself a lot. That being said, he is so unbelievably inspirational. He has lived it and been successful and had so much great advice. The class itself was super easy and required very little effort.
Very inspirational
Poor treated every lecture as he's a guest speaker. Funny and different guy not your normal professor but as far as class setup and business sense he lacks a lot to be desired. Class has no structure whats so ever, No Notes posted, No information order, just bunch of weird stories about how good his life is and his ideas. don't learn anything
poor is horrible! stay away from his class for your own sake. everything he teaches is his own beliefs and ideas not an entrepreneurs. if your sick your screwed he doesn't help with notes or anything you missed. very rude and unorganized. Makes mean comment if your degree isn't business or something he likes
easy A
Easy B class. Class is just a homage to Poor and his life. Make sure you aren't sick, you lose al points if you sick for the day. Test are hard, make sure you write down everything he says, the test are just about what he thinks.
Youll lose points for no reason and of course he wont provide a rubric so oh well! Missed class with an excused absence and lost the points for class and the assignment. But it was excused? Doesnt matter. Easy class but after its over heres what you will have leanred. (See below) Nothing.
Mr. Poor was very rude to me when I missed one day the entire semester due to a serious illness. I emailed him twice before class and went to office hours to explain. He simply did not care. Lost 500 points because of it! Better write down what he says in his lectures, especially about himself, because thats the tests! Don't take, avoid him!
Great teacher, the class is very laid back and you just have to put in a little bit of effort and read the book, it helps you see his train of thought and understand his lectures more. It is an actual book not a textbook but you must read it for the tests. You can find it on amazon for under $100 so it is a cheap class to take.
A one of a kind teacher with a one of a kind class. I loved it, but I can see why other students didn't. He is unlike any other teacher you will have at BGSU, for better (usually) and for worse (sometimes). Good or bad, it's an unforgettable class, and worth taking just for that. Keep in mind I took ENT1000, his 2000 classes are probably brutal.
You have to have a good attitude if you want to like Dr. Poor's class. If you want to be an entrepreneur then you will find his lectures inspiring. You will also find his assignments fun and useful for the future. If you are using this class as a blow-off, you'll absolutely hate it. If you're all about dreams and inspirations-take his class!!!
While he has a lot of work and projects. He truly pushes you to think and develop. His lectures are very comical and engaging. Would love to take again.
I liked Dr. Poo. Yes, he does talk about himself a lot, but there's valuable information in his stories. You have to apply yourself-- this isn't an easy A. To me, he's a solid choice, but to each his own, I guess.
I took him for entrepreneurship online. It is a lot of video watching and one page summery papers but overall it was very interesting and the guy is a genius in business. If you turn in something, you get full points. Textbook was not needed to pass.
Great
I can see how some people love and some people hate him. I was neutral on him. Seems like a nice guy. The class is mainly about his experiences though. You have about 1 short 1-2 page paper to turn in online each week and thats what makes up most of the class. He grades them pretty much for participation as well. Easiest A ever.
The first day of class, Gene said he is going to change your life. This class is simply what you make of it. Gene's wisdom and excellence carried me a long way. He demands respect and is a very entertaining speaker. He is harsh, but it makes life hit you in the face in such a positive way. I've learned a lot about business and its not even my major
Gene was an awesome professor, a little bit of an unusual guy, but pretty cool. Talks about himself alot but it is inspirational. Do the assignments and you should do well in the class, it's really not that difficult. Only thing to look out for are the exams and the requirements on some of the assignments. They can be very misleading.
Fantastic professor! He knows how to teach about the Entrepreneural spirit. Truly enjoyed his course.
Poor is one of the rare professors that gives interesting lectures that you can just sit and enjoy. Homework due every Tuesday and Thursday but is usually pretty easy and takes no more than an hour
Gene is a great professor and his lectures are usually intriguing enough to keep you interested. This class is one I would recommend even if you are not all the way interested in entrepreneurship. Homework is due every day you have his class, before the class. Not hard, but the points are very high for each assignment. Don't be late, no phones.
Very inspirational and unique to hear from. Lectures are a joy to listen to and homework is not that difficult. Just show up and do the work and you'll have an easy A, all while listening to a brilliant prof.
Gene is one of the most interesting teachers at BG. You'll leave your first class being motivated to start your own business. Very inspirational speaker who can get a little self-absorbed at times. Also at times isn't open to new ideas even though he claims to be. Overall great guy who is unconventional but that's what makes the class fun.
If you have the chance to take a class with Gene Poor PLEASE DO IT. It has honestly changed my life and has made me look at the world in a different way. Yes, this is the right class... YES, an entrepreneurship class has changed my outlook on life. Gene Poor is not just a professor, he is a caring, amazing human being. Please do yourself a favor.
Gene is unlike any other prof I have ever had. He's very inspirational and changed the way I look and think about things. If you do the assignments you'll get an A. Its as simple as that. No textbook, no major project, no stress. There is no need to stress about this class. The lecture will keep you entertained. A solid choice and an easy class.
Prof. Poor is a great professor. I took ESHP 1010 online over winter session ( 3 week session) the class consisted of many videos and video lectures that were very inspiring and effective. the professor explained assignments clearly and allowed students to be creative to help immerse themselves in the entrepreneurial spirit. EASY A!!
Gene Poor is a savage, plain and simple. One of the funniest professors on campus, if not the funniest.
Gene is interesting. Assignments every week but for the most part they are pretty easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does have "pop quizzes" when attendance is low to give points to those who show up. Lectures are super boring which make it hard to go to class. He is pretty funny but can come off very rude.
He is very passionate about entrepreneurship and gives great lectures. Never have to take notes and there arent quizzes/exams. His instructions for assignments are very vague and takes off points for silly things. Wont respond to emails. Can be rude and self absorbed at times. Dont leave class or hell literally scream at you DONT COME BACK!
During the pandemic he went from an easy A class to "entrepreneurship is your new major" in terms of work load. Each assignment requires an hours worth of work per assignment, which wouldn't be too bad but since the pandemic, he had assigned upwards to 8 papers a week.
Gene can come across a little strong sometimes. He's not that bad. I lost respect for him once he yelled at a student who went to the bathroom. He yelled, "DONT COME BACK!" I just think that was wrong. This isn't gradeschool anymore, we are adults and I think we should be treated as such. Also, due to COVID, he assigns like 10 assignments per week.
His accessibility policy is horrible, he won't excuse you unless you were in the hospital overnight. He yells at you if you leave class, but he warns you of that on the first day. If you miss class, you have to rely on your classmates, because he will not answer questions. However! I loved his class and he is an amazing man with awesome stories.
