The GREATEST History teacher ever! He tells tons of stories and he really knows his facts. I've never liked American History until now. He asks a lot of reading from his students, but if you do it you can easily get a good grade in his class.

I really liked his online class. The readings were interesting and I liked how he incorporated a movie with each section. He's really willing to talk to the students face to face. I was impressed that he recognized me by my name though I'd only been online. You need to keep up on the readings or you'll have a tough time.

He's a pretty interesting fellow both online and in the classroom. He's compassionate and understanding, but that doesn't me you can skip a few assignments and everyhings okay. Dr. Sessions is my favorite teacher at WSU. You will feel like you're reading non-stop, but the lectures are so fun. I didn't like the 3 tests, no assignments. Made for lot's of memorization for essay questions, hard tests. I would have done better with the 7 tests he outlined in the beginning. Really enjoyed both classes I have had him for.

Took this class online. I really enjoyed it. There is a lot of reading, but it is fairly easy reading. Also, two hours of online lectures a week. I really enjoyed the lectures. Lots of great info, but you HAVE TO take really good notes from his lectures and do the reading and internet exercises, but if you do there's no reason you wont end up with an A! This is an online class and the easiest I've ever taken. You need to read the material and listen to the video lectures, but the information is intersting and he is fun to listen to. The test are easy, but short so you need to really know the material. This is a fun class and I will take many more from him!

Best teacher ever, be sure to read the book. I didn't even have to take notes in his class and I received an A. The quizzes are only 12 questions. It took me only 4 minutes to complete one of his quizzes and I got them all right. Be sure to show your school spirit on friday and wear Weber clothes (because of bonus points!)

I have taken several classes from him and I think he's great, very smart especially on Utah History. His lectures are interesting but he goes off subject. I rather have that then be bored, though. Easy to work with and gets grades back to you in a timely manner.

He's a great teacher. Very interesting and super nice guy. He really does care about his students and is very understanding. His tests are 25 multiple choice questions and 2 essay questions. The multiple choice can be difficult if you don't listen/attend or take notes on his lectures. Highly reccommend!!!

I have taken several classes from him. The thing I like best is that he grades things quickly and will respond to you within a day if you email him. He tells personal stories and goes off topic sometimes, but the classes are interesting. I never found myself bored. He is a harder grader on essays if you take him online. Study for the tests.

His test are extremely hard if you don't read the helpful hints he puts online--or go to S.I. sessions. If you don't do the reading you are screwed. He lectures with loose terminology and slang, but tests are written very formally.

Great teacher. Took his online class and found it very interesting. You listen to a 2 hr video stream lecture,have reading assignments and one exercise for each unit and then take a quiz. You really need to take notes on lecture and reading and you should do well.

He was an incredible teacher who loved what he did and showed it through his teaching. One of the most animated teachers I have had. He was hilarious! I liked that we didn't have to remember dates and places. There's a quiz every other week, 12 questions. 4 on the reading (which is important to do) and the rest on the lectures. A fairly easy class!

The only class i got a A in my first semester. Hes a really great nice teacher. wear purple on fridays for EC (if he still does it) read before quizes, and be really good at testing (eliminate answers you know are wrong ect) and you can get a A. Getting a A in this class gave me confidence that i can understand history if i try.

First class I ever took at Weber. His class was a blast and I always looked forward to it. I learned a ton in his class and was enthused about history. His tests weren't the easiest, but I would definitely take another class from him. He was awesome.

He sure is full of himself. He seems like a good guy he just drove me a little crazy. As for the class with an average amount of effort put forward it's not too bad. There are questions on the tests and quizzes that you will only find the answers to in the book, but he tells you that. Attend the SI it really helps.

Very nice guy. Pretty funny. He puts up comics to start off the day, tells jokes, and picks on favorite students in the class. If you have the option to attend SI, definitely DO. And don't forget to wear your Weber gear on Fridays. That's the only reasons I got an A out of the class. The tests aren't terribly difficult if you study.

Great professor. He was very easy and very easy to pass the class. He has 9 quiz and only 8 counted. And if you did good on those quiz then you dont have to take the final. But if you want a good grade the you should take it. Also he does helpful hints on the each quiz. If I have done the hints then maybe I would have done better in his class.

Sessions is a cool dude. GO TO CLASS AND GO TO SI!! SI is key to passing the quizzes. Quizzes are worded weird, but Sessions doesn't want anyone to fail so he will help you as long as you are trying. Final was pretty easy. I didn't do the reading and got a B. But if you want a better grade, DO THE READING. They are long, but necessary.

Great Professor. If you are not within the area or just prefer online courses, take Dr. Sessions. Study the vocab from the crosswords and read his feedback on weekly essays and tests will not present any surprises.

I really enjoyed this class. The tests were every two weeks. At least 4 documents to read and a 2 hour lecture to listen to every unit. No text book and lectures are really interesting and aren't just facts and dates, he tells you how the concepts apply and what affect they had on history. Use the study guides and the tests will be easy.

This class is a lot of reading! I took it online and you have to read about 4 stories that are 8-14 pages long, plus a 2 hour lecture for every quiz. The quizzes are only 12 questions each. I failed the first few, but realized most of the questions are off the video lecture. He works with you, just ace the assignments and he'll raise a grade level.

Dr. Sessions was extremely knowledgeable, professional and helpful during the course. While his course was challenging, it was not impossible to earn a good grade. The exams were writing intensive and challenging, but a thorough reading of the textbook guarantees success on the exam.

Easiest thing to do is to print out the study guide each unit and fill it in as he lectures. Do that and actually do the reading (which is pretty short if you space it out) I never had to do extra studying. He has reviews every quiz. Go to those!!

Session is a great professor. he definitely teaches different but it's veeerrry beneficial. definitely had me memorizing things much easier. his class required lots of reading, and if you don't read you'll definitely fail the test.

Sessions is an amazing professor! Probably the best online class I've taken before. However, it is also very tough in my opinion. There are 9 units and then a final. Each unit there is a 12 question quiz. TO study your read about 30-40 pgs of articles and 3 hours of lectures. Way too much material for 12 questions. Very tough but good teacher

He gives you extra credit for weber wear about every other Friday, it helped out my grade a lot! I suggest going to the SI Sessions, they helped so much with studying for the test. He's pretty straight forward with what will be on the test. If he ever has a word written down, make sure to write it in your notes, and know what it means. Loved class!

He is a great professor, really funny with a lot of great stories. The class is pretty easy. There is a 12 question quiz about every 2 weeks with readings that go along with them. Then the 100 question final. He set up SI sessions with a tutor to help out before every quiz.

Amazing lectures, but I found readings to be hard. I had a very hard time retaining the info from all the different readings you have 2 do. I thought the questions on the test were hard and not clearly stated. I accidently took two history classes at once, both HIS 1700, passed Sessions with B and other with A. YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD IN SESSIONS!

Great professor! Loves what he is teaching. Offers a little bit of extra credit but your entire grade comes from tests.

This was the first class that the teacher actually made video lecture notes, which helped you understand it so much better. He requires you to read a lot of article every week and it was a lot of information that was never on the tests. Tests consisted of 12 questions that tested your comprehension of the topics.

Professor Sessions is BY FAR the best professor at Weber! He makes history so fun that you'll want to go to class! No book required because you just have a few online articles to read each unit. Nine units total with 12 question quizzes at the end of each with a final! I HIGHLY recommend taking this course from Sessions!

I really enjoyed taking this class! Sessions was a funny guy who really made me want to come to class and learn about History. There are quizzes about every week and a half, and if you pay attention in class and do the readings, you will do well. The best history teacher I ever had!

I liked this teacher. He has 9 quizzes with the worst dropped, that are based on about 1.5 hrs of lectures (70%) he put on You Tube, and usually 3-4 educational articles from the web (30% of quizzes). And then there is a 100 Q final based on the whole class, in which the last 10 were freebies I guess. I had fun in the class, and he taught well.

Sessions is AMAZING!! This is the first history class I have ever done well in, and the first one I've enjoyed. Its not the easiest class I've taken, but it's manageable if you are willing to put in the work. Extra credit work is time consuming, but interesting and will give your grade a boost. I highly recommend this professor!

There were a total of 9 Quizzes, then a final exam. Due to the lectures being online, I couldn't just review every 45 minute video a hundred times so you really have to pay attention the first time. He was quick to respond and interested in my success, it definitely wasn't particularly easy, though.

He was amazing! By far the best professor I have had. He makes his lectures clear, yet hilarious in a way you won't forget them. There is no book for this course, all of his readings are from online articles. The articles are semi-long, but there are only four per unit. You HAVE to do the readings to pass! Wear purple on Fridays for extra credit!

First History class that I have actually loved. Lectures are amazing! He's hilarious & very helpful. There's no textbook or homework, just tests. Long online articles are assigned to read for each unit. Tests are hard because of how they are worded. Take good notes. He is pretty generous with extra credit (wear Weber clothes every Friday for EC).

Dr. Sessions was engaging and interesting, and the lectures were fun to listen to on most days. No book was required, as all his outside reading was through articles on line. However, the only graded assignments are nine unit quizzes and the final, so it is essential you study for them. Be sure to wear Weber State gear on Fridays for extra credit!

Lectures were pretty fun. Very willing to help out. Wants to help you get the grade you want and willing to work with you. Lets you know what is required in the class to get a good grade. Doesn't feel like you're fighting the teacher to get a grade, you know what you have to do and he's there to help you get where you want to be. Would take again.

Professor Sessions made History fun and exciting. His quizzes are 12 questions, not giving you much room to miss points, but if you put in the work and do the unit readings, it's pretty easy to pass. The final is comprised of all the units, so don't just cram and forget each unit. The study guides are extremely helpful, so do them.

K let s be honest. Fun guy, makes the class interesting. If your fine getting a C or a B take it for sure from sessions. If you want a A I would look for another teacher. You'll have to work for it. Also note he only give's A, B, C, or Fail

Prof. Sessions makes class really fun. He keeps every lesson lively and cracks jokes the whole time. You can get extra credit every Friday just for wearing some sort of Weber State clothing (he is the most pro-Weber person you'll find) which helps a lot cause the quizzes are tough. Take good notes and do the study guides and its a B or higher.

By far the best Professor at WSU! I had little to no interest in history prior to this class but I am now considering Minoring in it! I honestly could not recommend highly enough. Took this class online and through his lectures he makes you understand how much he cares about his students. WSU give this man a raise, he makes your program!

Class is essential to hear his lectures and get notes for his class, but don't worry he'll make it interesting by incorporating stories. Definitely the best history class I've ever taken. He does purple Friday so wear Weber gear on Fridays to get extra credit. He has 9 quizzes 12 questions each and lowest is dropped and cumulative final. EASY!

He has been teaching here for ages, he makes history interesting. His class is made up of only quizes and a final so be sure to study for it. Some of them are tricky and theres no extra homework so it can be tough to get an A if your not willing to put in work. He is such a great professor, I would take classes from him again!

I've always been terrible at history, but he was able to help me understand it a lot better. He doesn't show boring powerpoints or videos. It's all lecture, but he keeps it very entertaining.

Really knows US History

Dr. Sessions is one of the best professors I've had for online classes. He's very clear and always gives feedback on assignments and tests! Assignments are basically a few short answer questions (a solid paragraph each) based on the text, so you do need the text for sure. He's very knowledgeable and willing to help too.

Gene was a great professor. He was hilarious and did a great job at including the whole class and teaching in a way that was appealing to every type of learner. He has a lot of passion for what he teaches. Knows a lot about history, but shares this information using very broad terminology so nobody is left confused.

I took the online class and I am so glad that I did. I loved his video lectures. I would listen to them while in rush hour traffic everyday and go home and write notes. Great course if you are in school and work. No book is necessary, just online articles. No papers to write. 9 quizzes and a Final. Just be careful because his quizzes are tricky.

Okay Dr. Sessions is one of the best professors that I have ever had. If you put in the effort you can easily get an A. Dr. Sessions really tries to help the students out and gives you every opportunity to succeed. Seriously the best.

Gene is extremely helpful when giving feedback on the sections. There is a requirement to watch a movie and write an essay for each section (about once a week), so it can be a little time consuming. Even though I took this class online, Gene was very helpful and usually grades things quickly.

Take a class from Dr. Sessions and you will not regret it!! He makes history lectures so entertaining and interesting! You don't have to buy a textbook, he provides the readings on his website. You don't have to write any essays. You don't have to memorize dates. Just attend lectures, take notes, (especially the things he tells you are important.)

Prof. Sessions is freaking awesome! He really makes history interesting. Pay attention to the lectures and fill out the helpful hints and you'll do fine on the quizzes. He offers extra credit in the online course and it is set up really well.

I thought I would hate history. This man can make it fun and interesting. I didn't have to be in class, but I wanted to be. It was like story time every MWF. He is awesome in every way.

I loved him as a teacher. His lectures were very engaging. The only thing I didn't like were that I missed a lot of questions on the test due to them being too similar to other answers. It kind of makes studying pointless. No homework, no book, just quizzes after every unit that are timed. Didn't do extra credit and still go B+ but you must study.

Sessions only gives lectures and four readings for each quiz. I struggled at the beginning, but I started to utilize the study guide and now i get high scores on the test. The quizzes can be difficult so do not save the lectures and readings until the last minute.

Prof. Sessions recognizes and appreciates hard work. He gives great feedback on your work and makes it very clear what you need to do to succeed. He gives great lectures and is pretty entertaining. His class is by no means easy, but if you're willing to work hard you will learn a lot and get a good grade.

Loved this class. Both Dr. Sessions and Dr. Oberg were awesome and the course itself was really interesting. Course is broken into 6 modules, each with a quiz and 1-2 page paper. Quizzes (mult. choice) require a fair amount of studying but profs are generous w/ grading on essays. Sessions is great about responding to emails/working with you.

This class was fun. If you go to the SI Sessions, you'll pass. Also there is always an opportunity for extra credit every Friday you wear purple. Loved this professor!!

Gene Sessions is a great man & professor. He does give out extra credit on Friday, just make sure to wear Weber gear. He is very lecture heavy, but he always kept it interesting.

Gene is one of my favorite prof's at WSU. He is hilarious and really cares about your success. Lecture material make up about 80% of the quiz, and the readings done outside of class make up the other 20%. No Midterm, just 9 quizzes and a Comprehensive Final. He does offer some extra credit!

I will say he is the most caring online professor I have ever had. His comments were meaningful and he accommodated generously to a medical emergency of mine. However I highly doubt he reads the movie reviews as more than once he responded to the movie I did a report. For ex. I wrote a review on Apocalypse Now he gave his thoughts on Forrest Gump

Gene is a great guy and is super funny. He is also very nice. However, this class was not easy. It was very test and quiz heavy, nothing else goes into the grade book except a weekly quiz and tests. The quizs are tough. The questions are worded confusing and they aren't all on the study guide. If you don't do well on the quizzes, you won't pass.

Professor Sessions is the best I have ever had. He made class interesting and is passionate about what he teaches. I have thought about pursuing a history degree because of him. He is a great guy who genuinely cares for his students. A+++.

While Mr. Sessions lectures are phenomenal and very informative, it's really important to do his weekly readings or will do poorly on his quizzes. Take really good notes and use his study guides to help you. He teaches large classes so he won't remember you, but if you make the effort to reach out he is more than willing to help you succeed.

Sessions makes his lectures interesting and funny. Doesn't require a text book, so that is nice but the online readings are pretty lengthy. Do the study guide and try to go to the study groups because his quizzes are hard. He usually has two right answers on each question and you have to determine which one is MOST right. He does do extra credit.

Really great professor. His passion for the subject shows through the feedback on the writing assignments, and they further your knowledge of the course. He turns around grading quickly and thoroughly, and is understanding with regards to the difficulty of the subject matter.

I've never been a history fan until this class!It's a must to attend the lectures, but he is extremely animated and makes them super interesting. You get extra credit for wearing WSU wear, he's open about questions and preps you well for the quizzes(which are 12 questions, multiple choice!)I HIGHLY recommend Sessions!Best history professor here!!

Professor Sessions is the first teacher who has helped me to understand and enjoy history. Every class period seemed like story time. He gives quizzes at the end of every section. The quizzes can be difficult if you miss class, so go to class and go to the supplemental instruction and you will do great.

Dr. Sessions and Dr. Oberg were great! The WSU 1680 course had both of these professors. These two as a combo were great. They kept the course very fun and interesting. Intense with homework and studies however. Absolute must to stay on top of all of it to pass the class. Both gave good feedback and helped with assignments/quizzes. Would recommend

This class consisted of reading two chapters a week with 4 mini-essay questions per chapter. There were 4 exams throughout the semester that consisted of a long essay, 10 mini-essay term IDs, and 25 map IDs. The final wasn't comprehensive. Reading/essay assignments are required. He docks 5 points on your test for each one missed. No late work.

Favorite history class I've ever taken. For the online course you watch about 3 lectures per unit and do a few online readings. His lectures are like listening to stories! He doesn't focus as much on dates and names, but more on overall ideas and concepts. Highly recommend!!

Amazing teacher! super funny and conveys the info well enough that anyone should be able to understand it. Has 9 quiz tests that consist of 8 questions from lectures and 4 from online articles. No text book but I would reccomend taking a good share of notes if you don't know history.

TAKE HIM! He is by far the best Prof. I've encountered in college. He incorporates current events into his teachings & makes the subject fascinating. While he does not take attendance, things learned in class will be on the tests, so missing is not advised. Also, I never wanted to miss his class- it was good! Extra credit for showing WSU pride.

This is a very easy class to take but lectures are very boring. He is an awesome guy and tries to make class interesting but it is not interesting. Go to the study sessions before weekly quizzes and you will be fine on the quiz. You don't need to read the required readings to do good on quiz. Very easy class.

Sessions is a good professor! Each unit, there is a small assignment to be done, an hour or so of video lectures, and extra readings. Really easy if you stay on top of things. There's a small quiz at the end of each unit, but as long as you've done your reading, you'll pass just fine. He's a nice guy, and really wants his students to learn.

Your entire grade depends on how well you do on quizzes. Half of the quizzes are questions he doesn't even talk about in class, but his lectures are interesting and he tells amazing stories. Just be prepared for the quizzes because they are awful. He says you have to do the readings, but I got by without reading any of them.

Prof. Sessions is amazing! You dont need a text book and if you just go to class you will do fine on your quizzes. Teaches in a fun way and really knows his stuff. Quizzes are easy and there are extra study sessions that are very helpful for quizzes. Best professor Ive ever had!

Prof. Sessions makes class interesting. Coming to class isn't mandatory but it will be difficult to pass his class if you don't. There is a lot of reading for the class but most of the articles are actually pretty interesting so I didn't mind them so much. He's very understanding and will work with you if you have any complications.

I really loved learning history from Sessions! He was a super awesome professor who was able to easily get across the information, while also keeping it interesting. There were 9 quizzes and a final, but no homework or final paper!

He is an awesome professor and I recommend to all that can, to take American History with this professor. His quizzes were straight forward and his readings correlated with everything that we tested on. There were quizzes every week and a half and one final. The work load is very reasonable as well!

Good class with interesting material. Professors supply plenty of explanation and are easy to contact. Relatively light workload, don't wait until last minute to complete assignments.

Dr. Sessions is awesome. I know a lot of people really hate on his 1000 level courses but often at least for social studies and english departments I have found that the 1000 or 2000 level courses are harder than the 3000 or 4000. Dr sessions is great and has enough homework that your not dying, but enough that you learn.

Dr. Sessions is a fantastic story teller and really makes you like history. Sit back, listen up, and take notes on the WHY of each lecture. Dates, and names dont matter. What matters is WHAT happened, WHY it happened, and how you can apply it to today. All his grading is quizzes that if you do the readings youll understand and do just fine.

Prof. Sessions is a great guy, but his class is super tough. Your grade is based off of 10 quizzes and a final. You miss one class and you miss out on a page worth of notes, sometimes 2 pages. Do bad on a quiz or 2 and there goes your grade. I suggest you take history from another professor unless you want to feel like crashing into a building.

Such an amazing professor. He quizzes on ideas not dates o names. You'll have a quiz every other weekish and they are 15 questions. If you watched the lectures and read the readings you'll be fine! He made me love history and I would definitely take another course from him again.

he is an amazing professor! i would definitely take this class or anything taught by him again. His tests are hard but he is such a good man and makes class fun. I understood everything we learned in class and if i read the reading assignments i probably would have done better.

Awesome professor, he provides more than enough material to really learn about history. Not only that, he praises you if you've done a good job, and really roots for you.

His online course is made up of watching his lecture videos on YouTube, reading some articles and then taking a quiz every 10-14 days or so. Also a writing assignment for each section that goes off on a tangent from the lecture material. Easy A if youre good at writing and quizzes. This is a gen ed for me but his lectures were actually good.

The Professor is really awesome. His lecture videos are interesting and easy to understand. The assignments aren't bad as long as you actually do it. He offers extra credit on the assignments as well. It is a lot of information so studying is a must. Fill out your study guides while you watch the lectures and read the articles, you will be golden!

He presented the material in an interesting and memorable way. There was no textbook yet a ton of reading, which is what all quizzes are graded on. He always says the class is so tough, but in reality, its not that bad.

Dr. Session is probably one of the best teachers I've had at Weber State, and there are a lot of great teachers here. For the class I had with him, he co-taught with Dr. Oberg, and they were great together. Dr. Sessions teaches clearly and makes sure you understand why something is significant instead of just memorizing dates and political factions

I've taken two courses from Dr. Sessions and hope to take another. He's easily my favorite history professor. This course was a good bit of work, reading, film, and essay questions each week, but as long as you put a bit of effort into it he's is fair. His in-person courses are great as well, though he can get a bit off track in his lectures.

AMAZING teacher. Gives very detailed feedback for each assignment. One thing to watch out for is the tests. They aren't too difficult, but there are three total that each count for about 30% of your total grade. The assignments are worth almost nothing, but if you don't do them you probably won't pass the tests. Difficult, but a great class.

Lectures were easy to understand and interesting, as if he's telling a story. The reading material was lengthy but relevant. There are 9 unit tests with 12 questions from lecture and the readings. 100 question final. If you want an A, you'll have listen and read. Test were given by proctorio. Sessions was easy to communicate with via email.

Professor Sessions gives great lectures, and teaches history really clearly, and in a memorable way. The hardest part for me were the readings. He gives 3 articles to read and your'e tested on how well you understood.

I had to take this class online because of Covid. Due to this, I never met Dr. Sessions, but had wonderful email conversations with him. He is super quick to respond to questions and great at clarifying anything. Your entire grade is based on nine quizzes and the cumulative final, which is difficult. Paying attention to tiny detail is important.

Extremely accomplished Professor! Tells many stories that give you a good grasp on history. Must Study the Class Readings, Study and you will pass the class. Fun, Down to earth Teacher. Sessions is the best! He wants you to actually understand the concept and not worry so much about dates and names. For each unit you take a quiz of mostly lecture questions with some article questions. If you actually study and go to the SI provided it helps a lot. He's such a good professor!

Please don't let the previous review deter you from taking this course. They got a D for a reason. Yes, Dr. Sessions lectures are pre-recorded lectures from 2013 but its a HISTORY course. We are talking about things that have already happened. Theres no major differences between 2013 History 1700 & 2022 History 1700. Do the work & you'll get an A!
