very unapproachable and unforgiving. literally reads his lecture. gives people an attitude when asking questions. lecture tests MUST be word for word answers! EXTREMELY strict in lab. a drama queen! has an ego problem! i would NEVER EVER SUGGEST HIM!
See the first comment because it is dead on. I could not have said it better myself!
In four years of college, this is the first teacher that I have ever had a problem with. He demands respect from students, but then treats them like imbeciles. He has a major chip on his shoulder and I am sure that his main reason for teaching is to be able to lord power over others. Avoid him!
This professor has gone out of his way to teach us how to be better students. Unfortunately, there are many immature, disrespectful students in the class, who don't listen and don't pay attention to the directions. Frankly, those students make the class a waste of time. The prof is great!
I would never recommend taking him for this class!
Compared to our lec prof, Dr Thomas is better. He is very helpful and funny to work with. I have heard horror stories, but he is a great teacher. He isn't easy, but he seems fair. I would take him again.
I can't believe some of these rude comments! Dr. Thomas goes out of his way to help us. All we have to do is do the homework and study and we can do well. His lectures are clear, his grading is fair. Some people find it easier to blame the teacher rather than take responsibility for our learning.
He seems hard at first, but if you stick around...his gets very lenient. He gives you review questions before the test, and the questions are the same on the test. He is a good teacher. If you do all of his review questions and go to his office hours to make sure your answers are right, then you will get an A.
Don't let him scare you off. If you are a good student and study you will do fine. He lightens up as the semester goes on. No multiple choice tests, all written essay questions. He does give a study guide, know all the questions inside and out.
He is very hard to approach and when you do he makes you feel stupid with his lisp... is very hard to understand at times. His lectures are trash.. he reads his abreveated notes that dont make sense to us and gets mad when we dont understand what he rushed through! Do not take him! Take Hefner-Gravink or Fahrank
Would I do it all over again? No, BUT I know the information and it is still helping me. He is not for the weak student. If you need to further your education, take him. If you just need a pre-req, don't take him. I made it through the Thomas Boot Camp and got the T-shirt!!
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER THAT I HAVE EVER HAD. THE SCHOOL WOULD DO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT HIM! I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW HE GOT THROUGH SCHOOL, LET ALONE TEACH A CLASS!
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER! The college should get rid of him. Very rude & unhelpful, makes you feel stupid if you don't understand. Very anal about everything. Respect goes both ways but he does not respect us as students. I don't think the likes to teach but just does and he sucks at at! BE WARE DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
All I can say is DON'T waste your time and energy. He is horrible, rude, disrespectful, unhelpful, unclear...
Before any students enrolled, you should think twice to get head ache or not.If you want to waste time and money,i would suggest you to take him,or if you want to pass biosc 14 ,take another instructor. He is hard in grading,in lab and, exam.
unless you are a bio major, there is no need to learn as much as you do in his class. HE IS A VERY HARD BUT GOOD TEACHER AND HE DOES EXPECT YOU TO WORK YOUR BUTT OFF. i was struggling and doing well in his class, but doing well in his class WILL put a dent in your other classes ESPECIALLY if you also work and have full time school. BE CAREFUL!!!
Dr. Thomas is really cool actually. The class is hard as heck but if you show up and give effort you can pass the class. I will say it is probably the hardest class I have had in college yet. (Dr. Tommy) as my friends and I refer to him, is a great guy and very loveable and valuable. PS: If you have taken him you would know what I'm talking about.
I think he's a very hard but very fair teacher and that a lot of people giving out bad ratings are people who don't often take responsibility for themselves. He is hard, but he gives out a study guide and is very true to it. I only wish I had utilized the study guide better because there was always a few questions I didn't know.
This is a very dificult class. However, it is a requirement for nursing majors and don't we want our nurses to know about sterile technique! People complain that he is a dificult teacher, reality is he will make you an excellent student if you are willing. If you are unwilling to improve your study habits and unwilling to adhere to his procedures y
He was very subjective, rude, and does not promote success
Yes, he does give a study guide, but he expects you to reproduce essay questions "word for word" on exam. You forget to a single word & you lose points. TOO HARD. Take this class if you enjoy MEMORIZING volumes. Confrontational, negative, & disrespectful. I recommend you steer CLEAR of this class unless you want an anxiety disorder + ulcers.
don't ever take his classes. It is harder ass calss. you will waste your time. he doesn't care becasue he gets his monthly salary. he will give you study guide about pages 85 and you have to do transcription and translation for those pages. take other teacher but not him.
He's a very rude and condescending teacher. He gives a study guide and expects you to memorize it for tests. If the answer on your test isn't word for word then he marks off a large amount of points. I love biology and science but could not understand his teaching, i barely passed and was extremely happy with a C, that's how hard he was.
i thought the class was interesting. you have to study hard to get a good grade. i think it's easy if you are good at memorizing and understanding the concepts. I ended up getting a B, and I would just memorize everything few days before the test. if you just study the study guide those are the same questions on the test. it's easy!
GOD AWFUL PROF! He is the most mean and hateful man! I wish I found this site before I took his class! He is very subjective and doen't care whether students pass or fail. He actually encouraged us to drop the course! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Hands out packets of his lecture notes and reads it to you during lecture. Horrible teaching style. He deters you from asking questions by responding very harshly to others. As a teacher, he rates very poorly. He does not seem to care about the success of the student and if possible, steer clear of this man!

It's true that this is a difficult class and not for the faint of heart. But it will drastically improve your study skills for all of your classes! I think he's a great teacher, although a bit fast - there's a lot to learn! Use the study guide and memorize away and you'll do fine. We're all adults and have to suck it up! Prep for the real world!
He was ok
Very fast paced. You have to study every night for this class. He is hilarious and very blunt. The tests are all short answer so you have to memorize a lot of material.
very blunt and NOT HELPFUL at all, plays favorites and did i say not helpful and his tests are all memorization & LONG ESSAYS questions & answers..DONT TAKE
Dr. Thomas is funny and knowledgeable, but his class requires lots of studying. Little thinking or creativity in his class, its old school memorization and regurgitation.
People need to be responsible for doing poorly in this class. It is very tough, his tests are very hard, and his lectures are sometimes rather hard to follow, but I worked and got an A. He is a great guy, very knowledgeable, and I would definately recommend him.

Put it this way, there were 34 students when we began the semester. At the final there were only 4 of us.
Yes, the class is extremely hard, dont' expect to get it without studing. Dr. T is fun, intelligent teacher who will go out of his way to help explain something or spend more time with you on something. HE give you All the questiosn he will ask on the test in advance in his study guides. MAKE SURE YOU CAN ANSWER THEM, if you can't ask him about it
He is definitely the worst biology teacher at Solano!! He talks extremely fast and I mean fast. There was no way to even understand what he says much less learn from him. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
A very challenging course. His tests are short answer and essay only but true to the study guide. Keep up with the guide, be prepared with q's at the beginning of lecture, seek his help at office hours even if u don't really need it, take good notes in lab, his practicums are very hard. Study skills will improove, I feel ready for UC Davis now.
Mr. Thomas is the worst teacher I have ever had. I honestly think the good ratings on this sight were written by Mr. T. himself. He is cold hearted, and extremely short tempered. Only 4 students passed his class. He is definitely not fit for teaching. DON'T take this class with Thomas!
BEWARE!!! Out of 4 years of college at a University level, I have always had great respect for teahcers...but Thomas is NOT one of them. I did pass his class, but I strongly recommend you find another teacher for Microbiology. For those who are nursing majors...DON'T risk getting diqualified from nursing programs because of a low grade in micro.

Dr Thomas knows and loves the subject of biology, but seems unwilling to share it with all his students. He singles out students to pick on and is obsessed with sending those students to the dean. He uses fear tactics such as embarrassment and belittlement to intimidate his students. Dr Thomas expects perfection and leaves no room for error.
this is the worse teacher i've ever experienced at this school. he will totally single you out and make fun of you in class. if he asks you a question it's better to act like you know the answer than admitt that you don't understand. he should be reported to an ethics commitee.
I generally enjoyed his class because I love biology. But it was very hard. Especially the exams!!! You MUST STUDY to pass, he never uses multi choice so it's all memorization.
Dr. Thomas is exremely difficult. You must devote all your free time to his class. He is not helpful if you do not go use his office hours. This is not a filler class!
Bi polar bad temper
Dr. Thomas is the hardest professor I have ever taken, but he is also one of the best. He makes you remember things but most of you guys don't like to memorize. You take this class because you want to learn microbiology, but if you are not willing to remember, what's the point of learning?
Dr. Thomas is not very hard! Everyone thinks he is so hard just because he makes you memorize things, which most people are too lazy to do. The first day of class he gives you ALL the test and final exam questions word from word, all you need to do is memorize the answers. strict, and will pick on you in class, but i learned a lot from him.Got a "B
Dr.Thomas is the hardest professor I've ever had, but I learned a lot & still remember it.His outlines & lecture notes are your key to passing & use office hours if you don't understand -he will tell you exactly what you need to know if you show initiative & that you are utilizing all your resources. Get organized & memorize. I got a B.
Unless you really need this course, do not take this professor. If you have a 4.0 GPA say bye to it.
Im a bio major and he made my life miserable! He constantly picked on me in class and enjoyed making me feel stupid. You are basically screwed on the exams unles you are keen on memorizing 100 vocab words and 30 or some odd questions per test.I didnt get to use his office hours but he definitely showd favoritsm to those who did. He ruined my GPA!!
This is the worst teacher at this school. I mean the worst do not take him, I repeat DO NOT TAKE HIM, he lacks social skills, and very blunt. There is no way you can get an A in this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM! DO NOT TAKE HIM! If your pre-med or pre-dental your grades in bio 1 is important if you take him I can BET you he will f it up! DO NOT TAKE HIM
The Worst Teacher AT SOLANO COMMUNITY COLLEGE hands down. THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't expect this class to be easy just because you need it to fulfill your GE. You actually have to work for your grade and LEARN something. I learned A LOT and I'm majoring in Biology. This guy has helped a ton, especially if you are serious about the subject. There's work, yes, and reading from the book and memorization: it's called SCHOOL.
The guy has a huge ego problem and is very rude commands respect but does not give it to his students. He is very rude when you ask questions. However, his lecture notes and outline that he hands out are very helpful in studying for lecture exam. He is not a very good teacher when it comes to labs and his practicums are nearly impossible to pass.
Since grade school all the way through college, Dr. Thomas is by far the worst teacher I have ever taken. I could write a book about how unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful he is to the students. This summer we started out with 30 students and only 7 passed. I wish I would have read other students comments b4 taking him. WARNING DO NOT TAKE HIM
Had no office hours. Did not let us email me for questions. Did not answer our questions in class. Was the most unhelpful disrespectful teacher I have ever had. I definitely earned a better grade then I received.
I took him this summer and received an A. Even though I received probably the only A in the class, I would have wished I never took him. I had asked straight forward and intelligent questions and he was rude and disrespectful with his answers. Most of the time he wouldn't give you an answer. He made me feel stupid!
He was the WORST bio teach I have ever had. He never lectured on what the test was on. And I think he thought he was funny...but he wasn't.
This is by far the hardest class i have ever taken. He can be rude but is very helpful if you ask him questions. I got a C in his class and i felt great about it. Being able to pass his class was very rewarding. As the semester wound down and the class dwindled he really seemed to be really nice. Maybe its because we were the few who stuck with it.
This is the HARDEST class I have ever taken. There is way too much information to be memorized to even seem possible. 75% of the class dropped or just stopped showing up. & He definitely has an attitude. This class killed my whole GPA, so if you plan on having good grades, find another teacher.
Worst professor EVER! I don't mind working hard for my grade but this guy made it impossible to excel in micro. He hates his students and I think he hates teaching. He really needs to quit. I love school and for the most part love my professors but this guys could give two sh*ts. DON'T TAKE DR. THOMAS for ANY class. He made my summer miserable.
I took this professor 10 years ago or so for BIO 1 or 2 I do not remember. I see he has not changed he was the biggest a** when I took him. I had to leave class 1 day or I sat on the side of the class and he made a huge deal of it & yelled at me for leaving early. From then on no matter how hard I studied it was not enough. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
I would not recommend taking Dr Thomas. He is very condesending and can be very rude. He tends to pick on certain people. It is very hard to do well in his class. I almost think he likes to see people fail. I have a decent gpa. I get A's and B's in my classes. C's are unacceptable to me, but when I found out I recieved a C in this class I wa
You better come to class AND read the text. He uses a poor outlined study guide for class. You may as well teach yourself the material b/c if you have any questions, he will make you look and feel stupid. I was on his good side, but have seen how he is condescending and very offensive towards people. His attitude is a distraction and a hinderance.
Expects a lot from you, but gives you all possible test questions and vocabulary. If you know the material on the study guide you will do fine. Start the study guide in advance...studying the night before the exam will not do you any good! Would def take him again.
Do not take this man for any class. He enjoys seeing people do poorly. He's insulting and rude. I took him and got a C and felt completely accomplished to get a C although I've never been a C student! Save yourself a major headache!
I took his class 2010 summer and his tests are easy. He gives study guides prior to a quiz or test, which helps a lot. Micro is a tough subject to understand, but Mr. Thomas explains it well. Summer is a fast paced course, which meant that he threw a few chpts out! Labs are easy just do a single worksheet and that's it. I got a B.
He has a "tough love" mentality, he may seem rude at times, but it's because he wants students to succeed. gives helpful study guides which are basically the exams.he makes you feel dumb for not knowing answers, which helped to keep me on my toes! i go to csus and he is prep for a 4year college for sure. just study and youll be fine
I took him two years ago and now I'm in BSN program. I kept all my study guide questions and answers. I still refer to same text book for my pathophysiology and clinicals. His SG focuses on things that you need to know for the rest of your life, if you want to be a health care professional. I got a B but I am learned.
An extremely difficult teacher. He seems to expect that you spend all of your free time on his class, so be prepared for that. He does not seem to explain things well or understand questions that are asked in class. I have told everyone I can that if they have to take bio, take a different teacher.
Hard material, his studyguides are straight forward, alot of info, u need to plan to study early. want an A, know the study guide in/out, if u ask for help he will give it to you. Some students aren't just used to the amt of material req'd to study - same as anatomy/physio!!! Its not grad material, just alot of it. Great professor
Dr. Thomas gives you the vocab and lecture exam questions in the study guides. It is a lot info. You just have to plan to study early. He will help you if you ask. Utilize his office hours. Lab practicums a little more challenging. I think he has a bad rep because he requires a lot. If you want to know what to expect take him. Great professor.
Tests are not ton always on what he lectured on. READ THE BOOK!!!!
Dr. Thomas is actually a very attentive professor. Ask questions, listen carefully, study the study guide, work hard, and you will get an A. Despite other opinions, he wants to help his students do well. Just ask. Also, exams are simple enough if you are good at memorizing. If you want to learn Microbio well, take Dr. Thomas.
I'll be honest with you, this is a difficult class. You will have to attend all sessions and put in lots of study outside of class to keep up. However, the work habits you learn in this class will help you later on. Dr. Thomas is fair and no more difficult than any other professor of science. His study guides are a godsend. I enjoyed the class.
One of the worst teacher i have ever had. He expects you to know things before u begin the class. His tests are hard, all short answer questions NO MULTIPLE CHOICE. And he thinks he is hilarious but he is not.
This is a tough class but Dr. Thomas makes it harder than it needs to be. Although it was never directed at me, he was very insulting to some students. I am an A student and I felt accomplished to get a C in his class. The amount of material he wants you to know if unreasonable. Another micro teacher subbed for him one days and was like "what"?
Was a TBD teacher. Should've looked here sooner- Would've saved me a lot of trouble!! Biggest complaint: He talks WAY TOO FAST & expects you to already know the material as if it's an advanced class. I have a 3.6 (A in all math & Sci) but was a "D" in his intro to plant class. Terrible! 2nd complaint: He insults students & thinks it's funny.
Dr. Thomas expects a lot from his students but he also really cares as long as you care. His humor is surprising at first and can be harsh, but once you get use to it, he's a fun teacher. He's really knowledgeable and loves his subject. Follow the study guides, read the book, study hard, meet him in his office when necessary and you'll do okay.
He's a hard grader, no doubt. You have to really go into detail to get full credit, so make sure you go into office hours to know what he wants you to write. If your major is related to biology, then you should take this class, but for non majors, take an online class or other professor.
In our first exam only 2 were 90%. They were the highest. He picks on students all around. Everyone is fair game. This human being has an amazing brain but is incredibly difficult for Microbiology because its his passion. I understand this passion he has. As far as answers, even during lecture, it will be tough to memorize the answer HE WANTS
Dr. Thomas is an incredible teacher and sets you up for university level classes. If you find this class too hard you better step up your game, because when you transfer it is even harder. Because of this class I am definitely ahead of the curve at my university. READ THE BOOK, DO THE STUDY GUIDES, and CRITICALLY THINK!
Professor Thomas is not to be taken lightly. His tests are all written, no such thing as multiple choice! Occasional quizzes but he will give you the information he wants EXACTLY. If you aren't exact, he's docking points off. Tests are mostly ok if you take the time to study and make an effort. He gives out chapter study guides that are lectured.
Don't take his class he is not clear at all and repeats the same stories over and over . Didn't learn a thing
Avoid this guy we started with 40 students and now we only have 7 and im afraid not everybody is gonna pass. Tests are extremely difficult
If you think Biology in high school was simple, I wouldn't expect the same in HUMAN bio. There's a lot more to cover and none of his tests were multiple choice so be sure to read and review the lecture constantly. I spent more hours studying than usual and showing up is mandatory for his condensed notes.
HORRIBLE AT TEACHING. He loves science but teaching is not his strong suit. his test are allll essay. you have to explain everything. out of 20-25 vocab words, only 10 on the test and he MIGHT giv you 3-5 to know for sure. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. i dont care if its your only class left and your graduating, try and get another. also talks super fast
Thomas is a total waste of time. He insults you when you ask questions and makes up his own things that do not match the book you are supposed to use. Only 7 people went to the end of the course and only 3 passed. He was suspended for 2 weeks for insulting two female students and should not be in any public service.
I enjoyed my experience in Dr. Thomas's Bio 003 course. He is very informative, and the study habits I learned from taking this class have served me well in my other classes. You definitely have to work for your grade, but I think he is fair and sufficiently challenging. I wish more instructors challenged me to critically think the way he does!
Dr. Thomas was a difficult teacher to please. He has is own interpretation of HOW he wants you to answer the question and if not to his standard he makes you feel stupid..... This is an intro class and he expects you to know everything. Its difficult to learn and participate when you are worried about being belittled in from of the class.
He was my lab teacher when I was taking micro with Dr. Hefner Gravink. Dr. HG had to give everybody 30 points worth of extra credit because of the poor grades that everybody were getting on their lab practicals. This was my 6th biology class and Dr. Thomas was the worst teacher I've ever had. I only got an A because Dr. HG was the lecture teacher.
Professor Thomas, was one of the toughest graders I've ever met. I took his lecture class and all his test/quizzes were fill in the blank.I didn't have a problem with that, until I realized that if you didn't write the exact term/function he takes off 3+ points. His lectures were read straight from the book. I learned more from the lab class.
Was this class an easy A? No. Many hours of studying was put in. But I promise if you follow this one step, you will get an A. All of the questions on the study guides are your answer. He picks random ?s off the study guide for the test- nothing more or less. As long as you work out the answers, you get an A. Also, engage in class conversations.
