she is the nicest and happiest teacher in the whole human resource department

Treats class like kindergarden, tests dont refelect her attitude, friendly, nice
very good prof, ask her for help if you need it and she'll help

Nice and helpful lady! Good HR prof.
Best person/prof but hard marker
A piece of advice: take the course if you want to learn nothing!
If you can avoid taking any courses she teaches, DO IT!!!!

The nicest and most friendly Prof you will find
the course is stimulating; prof is enthuisiastic and knowledgeable/great course!

great prof, very helpful, course is kind of boring tho.
Boring course, but great teacher. Gives a LOT of work
Course is boring, but the prof is extremely helpful. Really good prof

VERY nice, and helpful, like a JK class, read and you'll do fine
She's a nice lady, but if you're not an HR major, you're screwed! Values things that sound nice over things that are logical. If you take MHR623, use it as a How NOT to Recruit course - it's B.S.
Cares a lot about her students. Brings candy during exams and gives advice to stay healthy during stressful times. Real genuine person.
She is great..Good assignments, Exams are straightforward with no surprises and she brings candy to final exams...Hoping I get her again in my final year
excellent prof, heavuy course but very interesting. lots of assignments, every week. Very easy overall, easy marker. An easy "A".
very nice and friendly teacher. tough marker, but seems fair.
Very nice and understanding person. Assignments and test never change: all are straight forward. Learn alot in her class. Will bring candy to final exam!
She is oh so sexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy
Very knowledgeble, fair and understanding lady. I learnt a lot in this course through assignments, class presentations and guest speakers - this basically covered everything i needed to know so it was great.

What a great lady! Go to class, DONT buy text you dont need it (EVER), and participate! Very nice & willing to go beyond for her students!
Huge course load but fair marker, very helpful and understanding.
she is one of the best profs. her classes should be the benchmark at ryerson, so fun! and i know it sounds cliche but i learned ALOT in that class. take her class if you can!
A very Kind-Hearted professor...she truly does care for her students...very approachable person
BEST prof I ever had! I learned tons and totally appreciate the whole experience. She is so passionate and knowledgeable - you don't ever want to miss a class. So fun and informative!
Bring a box of chocolates to class-any brand will do!!! and you will be guaranteed an A for sure!
Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Cannot teach for her life! get out when you can! does not mark ANYTHING....very ambiguous about assignments!
Very nice lady!! I'll admit that she's takes her time marking, but then again, she's an easy marker. Generally doesn't give midterms and tells you exactly what's on the exam (chances r u will have done the work in class). Funny and kind teacher. Collect pop tabs for her and you'll get an A++!!!
She is OK, hard but nice. Her exam review sheet was misleading as she told us to study eight chapters which were not EVEN on the exam. Mid-term was HARD, but assignment was marked easily MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW APA FORMAT LOL!! good experience!
She is not bad of a teacher, although she is always late for classes. She likes to talk a lot. She thinks she is funny but not. It a lot of paper handouts (killing trees).
Nice lady, good heart but very slacking in the area of marking and returning materials handed in. Two term assignments completed in early Nov. of the fall semester not marked or returned by the final exam in mid Dec. Interesting material, however not presented as effective as possible. Get out!!!
She is very clear in what is expected in her classes. She is organized and knowledgeable in what she teaches.
absolutley horrible!!!she's always late for class, never returns anything, can't teach anything relevant, marks are questionalbe. not worth taking. hey genevieve, grow up!!!
She does not hand back any assignments even though she says she will. Even though her classes are always easy, it seems as if the marks are subjective and not really based on any criteria. And once she said that she would hand back the assignments by mailing it to everyone, that never happened.
The most unprofessional professor I have ever encountered. I still have no idea what I was supposed to learn from this class. She will never give you any feedback on any of your work and you'll never get to see any of your marks so you have no idea if they are accurate or not.
Horrible prof. Very lazy. She hates marking. You will go into the exams knowing NONE of your marks. Classes are a waste of time. I can watch 20/20 at home, thank you. Better suited working at a daycare where's there no marking!
This prof. is the worst Ryerson has to offer. Gerald Hunt, you need to review her performance. She is not punctual to class, her teaching style is inappropriate for university students and she never marks assignments through out the term. She is a disgrace to the human resource faculty. It appears she only wants her salary without working for it.
Horrible! Not a good prof at all. She didn't hand back ANY assignments-she says she's too busy to! If you can't handle the load Genevieve, then don't teach so many classes! It is very unfair to students not knowing how they are doing in the class going into the final exam. I do not recommend taking ANY of her classes. This is the truth!!!
She is a very nice lady and is very helpful if you approach her. However, the fact that she does not mark is true, we walked into final exams not knowing our grades and assignments were handed back after the class ended without a mark on them and without feedback. She is a very nice person, but not a very efficient nor effective professor.
She really cares about her students. She will try to help you get a job post graduation and her humour makes classes bearable. Her assignments are often based on in class work which makes things easier. I wish she would mark our work and hand them back before the exam. This is unprofessional. She should cut her class load if she can't handle it.
Ok folks - Here is the truth on Farrell. One of the sweetest prof's you will ever meet...BUT you will NEVER know your mark going into the exam, and be disappointed with your mark when received at the end of the semester. She's very easy...but you learn nothing. Doesn't give any grades below a B- and teaches approx. 7 classes per semester!!
I somewhat agree with the previous comment, we never know what we were getting toward the final exam! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL prof!
Why are ppl whining about her? Her assignments are soo easy, and her exam was VERY straightforward. Her class avg was a B+. She was way easier than Prof. Sniderman. My friend had Sniderman n she said her class avg was a C. Btw, I only attended like half of her classes n still ened up w/ an A. Easy marker for sure....
Very hard marker on reports/group projects. Picky on what u write on reports. Must attend all classes or u will lose LOTS of marks. Boring lectures (reads ppt). Hard tests. Very tricky final exam. All this leads to a class avg of C-. Get out of her class while u have a chance! My friend had Prof. Genevieve Farrell & they haD a class avg of B+!!!!
She the easiest prof for mhr 523. She guarantees u a B- or better in her class. No one in our class had a final grade of B- or below. She's amazing! Would take a class w/ her any day! I love you FARELLLLL!!!!!!
the best prof in the WORLD..take her class you will love her!! she is great and very helpful! i really recommend her
Genevieve is a great prof no matter what other people say. She may treat students like preschooler's but you will still learn a lot. MHR 623 is her best class since it is very hands on and not just 3 hours of chatting like many profs do.
A very sweet person, but her stories are so BORING! Like we dont care about your life stories, just teach us the course material! She's sorta monotone and slow in her teaching style so have patience. I learned a lot in her class because her class was very hands on.
I have taken 3 classes with her already. Farrell has problems handing assignments back to students on time. She might seem nice at first; however if you get stuck with a group that does not do any work, you are screwed. Do not even bother going to speak to her because she will be unsympathetic, insulting, and patronizing.
Extreamly disorganized and does not teach ANYTHING - but must go to class for participation marks. Class average was a D on the midterm!! Final was better but all marks were for 2 of 5 chapters. MUST KNOW EVERYTHING IN DETAIL. Charity project is massive but rewarding. Not impossible to get an A but must work you ass off.
The tests are so highly detail oriented, you have to read each word in the text and memorize it. She is a great teacher, and she'll do anything to help you get through university life, really cares for her students. Class attendance won't get you much, just study the book hardcore. The text is dry and wordy
She is a good proff. She's very helpful in everyway and just wants all her students to do well in her class and in university in general. Helps with resumes and finding a job. But her tests are a bit hard as they as so very detailed and specific so you have to know the chapters inside out. Overall a good prof and good course.
I found her lectures pretty useless. She's a nice lady and all but her lectures do not engage the students. It's always powerpoints from the text. My advice is study the text really well because her tests are very detail orientated. It's up to you if you want to attend all her lectures, you wouldn't be missing much.
She's a great prof. Had us do many activities, watch videos and discussions in class. Dont bother buying the book for this class, as all the material on the final is from the activities you do in class.
Genevieve is a great help when you need it. She is willing to give students what they need to succeed. The class is a lot of tedious assignments thou and you realize that they're pretty pointless by the time you get to the final assignment. Overall a worthwhile class
a very very nice lady, but completely useless professor. the class was easy, but there were few lectures, classes were supplemented with workshops and guests. Did not receive feedback until a week before the exam, she does not respond to student emails, and she could not remember my name. Disorganized, scatterbrained.
not good
Probably the best prof I've ever had. She has a passion for what she teaches and you can totally see that. She will go above and beyond her role as a professor to help you succeed. I found her lectures very practical and useful. Highly recommend her. GREAT PROF!
Genevieve is one of the nicest persons that I have ever met. She really cares that her students succeed. Sure you may not see your assignments after you hand them in, but she is always willing to go above and beyond to help her students
I've taken a few classes with Genevieve and she's fantastic. Funny, helpful, caring, easygoing. She does a terrible job marking things on time, but makes up for it with high marks and any kind of help you need. She remembered my name throughout the years, and made sure to offer me a lot of advice regarding the HR profession.
Genevieve was a great professor and I would take any of her classes.
the class with this prof is really killing time, Sorry
This class consists many workshops and guest speakers. Make sure you attend class because it will help on the final exam. Genevieve is very helpful and a nice person to talk to. She'll help you in every way possible.
A nice person and knowledgable prof. However the course is boring. Attendence is mandatory because she doesn't post notes on blackboard. you need to get them in class. Exams consists of M/C and large written sections.
She doesn't put stuff on blackboard which is incredibly annoying when you're sick and you miss the class. The assignments are worth less than the amount of work you put into them. She treats students like we're kids, yelling at them if they leave the class to use the washroom or get a drink. If ur cell goes off in class u gota bring chocolate.
knowledgeable prof but doesn't give enough freedom in projects. You basically have to follow whatever she says to a tee to get a decent mark. Mid term was ridiculous, 9 chapters!
Gen is just the sweetest thing! She is so helpful and very fair to all students! Her class is the first that I've ever found interesting since she's so fun and makes the class exciting. She's always happy and tries her best to help you. Her midterm was very easy. The final was easy too but alot of writing. I just lover her!
I took this class only because I saw that she was teaching it since I had her before for 600. She's great. The material for this class however is ALOT! you only use the text up until the midterm then its all hands on which makes it interesting.Altho alot of work its still interesting. She's fair and very helpful!!The best prof I had so far!!
she will teach you a life time experience!!!
She's awesome. She's definitely the best professor in the HR department. Very helpful. Very cheerful. I'd recommend her to anyone in HR or to anyone that's planning on taking an HR class, take anything with Genevieve, you won't regret it! Oh, and don't let you cell go off in class, you'll owe everyone chocolates!
Gen is the best person to go for anything. SHE IS A WOMAN WITH ANSWERS, if not, SHE'LL FIND THEM! I am very happy to have taken her, and even more blessed to still keep in good contact with her even after school is out! Gen if you read this WE LOVE YOU! Your style of teaching is practical and I wish more profs were or could be like you! -Mykonos
One of the best professors I've had so far. Made recruitment and selection interactive and even the exam was practical, basically a recreation of all of the assignments throughout the course. Assignments are somewhat confusing to interpret at first but easy enough once you figure out what it means.
Extremely helpful and enthusiastic prof. She really knows her stuff and really cares about her students. She made the class extremely interesting. She is a fairly strict marker. The assignments and exams in that class are not too difficult, but you need to know the material, so come to class, you'll enjoy it.
I think Genevieve is by far the best prof I've come across at Ryerson.....she's not only very clear in her expectation; but she also makes coming to class fun!!!! A fair marker, she keeps the class on toes....she's the ONLY reason for me to take back to back HR classes in the summer. I would recommend EVERYONE to sign up for her class hands down!!!
The best woman i have ever met, she is so kind, helpful and made me feel so comfortable in her class. everyone should have one class with her in their life! she helped me with all problems both academic and personal! we love you!!!
By far, Genevieve is the best professor ever. She is so nice, so generous and so enthusiastic. She always has so much energy, and creates such a great atmosphere to be in.
The best prof!!!
Great Professor. Very helpful and always willing to make time for her students. She makes the class interesting and fun. I had a great time.
Shes really nice and sweet in class, but once you write a test or paper, get ready to see her mean side. Unless you word things exactly how she wants it you wont be getting the marks, even if you have support from the text to back you up. Class is dece since we just played games and didnt have to read the text prior.
Upbeat, great class environment, very helpful, super nice, but makes you you learn and apply the knowledge. Awsome teacher!
A very fun prof,we played games in class and sometimes had cookies, every first year should have a prof like her it makes it a lot less scary. More than that she opened our minds instead of just teaching us old dusty theories and definitions. Like the milgram experiment eep. Really worth going to class, you never know what you`re going to do.
easily the least helpful teacher i have ever encountered! the perfect example of why profs should have to attend some from of teachers college! teaching methods are for children, assignment sheets are astonishingly vague and unorganized. does not provide any assistance, literally ignored emails. avoid taking this professor at all costs.
Very pratical teaching style. Her class was taught in a way that you would remember the methods used. Very interactive with lot of group work....
Try getting on her good side by participating in class, answering her questions and go visit her during office hours. If she likes you, she will likely remember you and you will get an A
IGNORE ALL THE GOOD THINGS YOU'VE READ! absolutely the worst teacher possible. she's forgetful, EVERYTHING has to go her way, or else there's no other way she'll negotiate. very un-organized!! AVOID GETTING HER AT ALL CAUSE !!!!
She has really good powerpoint handouts and you don't even need to read the textbook. Although she teaches very well, the midterm was SOOO hard. It consisted of 10 mark long-answer questions per EACH chapter than was being tested so you really need to know your stuff.
she is ok.she is partial with some students.students who visit her during office hours or yak yak with her all the time.she is gonna give them A but students who are not smart to yak yak all the time end up with B.she has thing as favouritism rather than taking all students same. i really hated her class and wanted to end up as soon as possible.
you can't ask questions without feeling you'll be bashed into pieces. she marks everyone in the medium range (70s) without actually reading the assignment, and once you start disputing her marking she admits being wrong, but refuses to correct the mistakes and give you the deserved mark. Everyone ends up with a B- to B in the end
OMG. Be scared, be really scared. If you ask a question from her, or if you ask for clarification on her slides or lessons or assignments it'll turn into a fight.
The most helpful prof when needed help in other courses or personal dilemas. However, in relation to this course, PURELY USELESS. The lab was a joke, you need to be there for attendance marks, and when we attend she talks about her personal life and other things that don't relate to the course, the course itself is quite a joke.
Just read the textbook chapters and you be okay for her mid term and exam. Its mostly short answers and the questions came from the chapter discussion questions. Pretty fair in marking as well. Overall, an alright prof, could be better.
HR is a useless major and so is this course...
great teacher! with such a big heart! i truly found the class fun and interesting. My only peice of advice is to study hard for the tests :)
never follow her in summer school! she teaches the course harder than any other proff! also so much more work compared to the regular school terms
She does not explain herself well. Your grade will be the MIDDLE of the range - so youll never get 100% (A+ = 95%). She says NOT to do one thing (i.e. do NOT use weighted rating scales) then in our feedback says we should have used it. Worst professor I've had at Ryerson. My mark is still an A, and she's a nice person. But a horrible professor.
She teaches you something and shows the multiple ways of doing it, but expects you to use HER preferred method in order to get marks. She gives you assignments without any indication of what she expects. She spends too much time talking about non-class items. She is tenured so doesn't care about what she's doing. Has a very "I dont care" attitude.
Was very specific about her midterm and exam, very lenient marker and very approachable. she was a little weird, but made a very boring subject interesting. i definitely recommend taking any of her classes.
Fair marker and put a great deal of work into her course outline. Only complaint is the amount of work required each week for a distance education course. After having taken several, this is by far, the most demanding course. Not recommended for mature students trying to fit it in with a full time job, family, commitments etc.
very nice, helpful and makes the class really interesting
She's super enthusiastic, genuinely concerned about her students, a bit quirky and a load of fun. However, she is not very in-depth about many concepts, so in order to really grasp them, you may need to make use of her office hours. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class either.
Worst professor ever, she should really get fired. She never teaches, she prints out the slides then adds in little points that are so useless. The midterm was all test bank questions. The entire class did so bad she went from making it out of 90, to out of 60. Terrible professor, avoid her at all costs if you don't want to stress!
The worst professor I've ever had! I recommend not to take her!! Her midterm was all multiple choice which was all from a test bank and everyone is the class did horrible. Also, it takes her forever to post marks online so you have no idea how you're doing in the class. So many handouts and powerpoint slides, such a waste of paper.
Too much emphasis on team-work and not enough guidlines - the grades are award based on intuition and friendship
She's the best MHR prof I had so far. Took her class twice and really liked her teaching style! It's true that she places a great emphsis on group work but she is a VERY fair marker. Midterm was fair given that you study. Final Exam was EXTREMELY easy! Highly recommended!
This prof is one of my favorites !
Interesting Prof, Prints off so many papers and you never use them for anything. Mid Term was pure question bank and was really hard but Final was pretty simple since it was taken from the Assignments. Assignments are a lot of work compared to the % weight. She crams a lot into each class - often rushing through. A little "crazy" as well.
ARGUABLY THE BEST PROF AT RY!!Had her 4 MHR505/733/741,my best marks in all uni were from her classes(&I struggle 2 keep a 2.0 CGPA, my friends all did well 2). Gives out many useless handouts.Funny & entertaining.Very sincere and caring.Truly cares about her students' success, unlike most ry profs.VERY FAIR.Considers complaints, and always helps u.
Very nice lady and good prof! She's so knowledgeable and cares about her students.I learned a lot in her class. Her marking is fair if you study. She is not an easy marker but she's not impossible either. She's very fair. She's a very sweet lady and will teach you a lot! There should be more profs at Ryerson like her.
The best HR prof at Ryerson. Group work emphasized. Very responsive to emails. Concise self-made powerpoint slides. Very accommodating.
Best professor! I love Genevieve, she is the best professor at Ryerson. She truly cares about her students . She literally prints all the handouts and powerpoint slides and provides them to students in class. She's a very fair marker and her classes are always so entertaining-she's very energetic.
She's a very good prof, and definitely cares about her students. She prints everything out and is pretty reasonable when it comes to assignments.
SHE IS A GOOD PERSON,but TEST R VERY HARD mcq based on case study (hard),POP ASSIGNMENT is awful she expect u to interview 3 people about their perception abt u.get ready to write a long book , she cares abt students, not very hard marker. keeps u busy through out the course with boring assignments
She acts like shes the nicest person ever, but shes not. I took this class, thinking she would be a good prof. She gives you the assignment with limited information on how to complete them. Once you had them in she ll tell you what you did wrong. Over all gives useless work to do and is very unorganized.
She's a horrible teacher. She puts herself off as a fun, perky teacher, but she's not. Her documents makes me feel like I'm in kindergarten and all they do is mask her lack of knowledge for the course. I do not recommend her at all.
Very helpful and hands-on, a lot of group work but simple assignments. Prints everything out and is clear on assignment outlines. Midterm was simple if you attend class and read the book.
i took this online, but have not heard bright comments about her teaching skills in person as well. very confusing and not helpful at all. horrible prof. avoid at all costs
Took this class online W/14. The course material itself is not hard but be prepared to study the material on your own. Be very thorough in answering questions in the midterms and finals in the short answer/essay portion. Feedback can sometimes be lacking but if you are the type of student who doesn't need a lot of guidance then you should be fine.
She's a horrible teacher. Doesn't give instruction and isn't clear. I'm hoping I can avoid her with the rest of the HR courses I have to take.
Genevieve is a great professor. I had her for Recruitment and Selection for winter 2013. She makes you come to class...yoy miss three classes you're actually kicked out of the course! But its beneficial for us because we have to go. She is very organized (I actually learned a few tips from her) and thorough. You always understand whats going on.
Genevieve is a much better in class-prof than online. I've had her for 623 & 741 (got an A in both) Her CMHR749 was a bit tedious & VERY group-work oriented like the WEEKLY modules from each group. the online midterm was hard (changed the sentence of a question by 1 word). Final was much easier (wasn't cumulative)
She is a great person and very helpful person. You can take her if your are willing to work hard. There is too much paper works in class and outside, but you learn lot from her. Take care :=)
I LOVE GEN, she is adorable and I really enjoy her lectures. She is VERY helpful- you just need to ask. She gives really good lectures, she loves her students and wants to help you with anything. She can be a tough marker, but that is because she wants use to really understand the material and she wants you to pass the CHRP exam. GREAT PROF
I got the worse mark ever IN MY LIFE from her class. I even did better in accounting and finance, french you name it. I'm praying I do well in the exam! I read the whole book and made notes and still did horrible.
She tends to push her own personal opinions on you rather than factual, researched evidence. She does NOT give timely feedback on testsassignments. She takes over one month to grade projects and prioritizes certain courses she is teaching over others. Limited feedback is given so you don't know to improve. Great person, horrible prof.
Genevieve is an animated presenter and makes class interesting. Sometimes her assignment expectations are confusing however you can ask her for clarification. I've had her for a few courses and people often think that because she's nice she will be an easy marker. This is not the case. She is very tough. She also gives an insane amount of handouts.
Was VERY enthusiastic about the material. By far the most interesting and valuable HR course I've taken. I found the course itself to be a fairly unorganized due to the large amount of group assignments (be mentally prepared for those). Overall the course was A LOT (like a lot) of work, but she really does make you a better student.
She wants her students to succeed so she will be there for you when you need help. She is very specific about what she expects from the assignments so follow her instructions & ask for clarification when you encounter any problems. This course is all about group work & lots of small assignments so be prepared to work hard & be organized with time.
Genevieve is an overall good professor. She provides printout of lectures and so you have to memorize everything on them for the midtermfinal (which is cumulative). The group project was a lot of work and effort however was not difficult. She does not provide timely feedback on assignments. The midterm and assignments were easy but not the final.
She's an amazing professor. She likes her students to be very involved and learn by doing rather than focusing on the usual PowerPoint based lectures. She's very clear as to what she expects though there's a lot of work to do. I mean a lot but it's totally worth it. I'd love to have her as my prof for all my courses.
ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO HER CLASS. AMAZING SOUL! FULL OF LIFE! BUT SHE WORKS YOU LIKE A DOG. but it's all worth it in the end!
Horrible prof. Unclear about assignments and when you ask questions she degrades you.
Listen, She's super nice and very vocal in class. Don't be fooled, she expects extremely high quality work, and often the required 20-40 page assignments. She gives an insane amount of handouts and they are not all very useful. You need to put effort into the class to get a good grade. She is very nice and will offer as much help as she can.
Did not enjoy this class. Too much group work. Waaay too much, plus teams were huge.
She's a very hard marker and expects way too much from students. Isn't clear on expectations and doesn't provide clear feedback. Seems nice but isn't very approachable. If you miss more than 3 of her classes you fail the course. Material is boring and there's an assignment due every week. Would not take another one of her classes again.
EXTREMELY unclear about expectations, and did not teach me anything valuable. The course itself should provide a valuable learning exp for those in HR, but she misses the point of it. I work in recruiting and it's nothing like she says in the real world. She degrades and trivializes HR - no wonder people don't take HR seriously
Tough grader/unclear. You can't really avoid her as an HR major as shes the only one who teaches it. I wouldn't take this course if I was doing a PR.
The course itself is hard and very heavy on group projects. She is a tough grader on assignments and when I asked for feedback, she always said she's too busy. It was hard to do the assignments without her clear grading criteria. She does not upload marks until a month later.
Avoid, avoid, AVOID!
She is a Great Professor! She is extremely organized, enthusiastic and caring professor. Be ready to work hard as she sets high expectations for all students. I really enjoyed her classes!
Worst course I've ever taken. Not at all because the content was difficult (quite straight forward and interesting), but because it was so poorly set up and graded. She creates her own "methodology" for writing papers that is so obscure and difficult to master. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. She is all over the place. Very nice lady in person but not as prof
She is the sweetest and nicest professor you will ever have. Really caring and hilarious as well. The only problem is she gives an insane amount of papers and she emphasizes group projects way too much. Still, you will actually learn practical stuff in her class. Her lectures are great and the exam was long but easy.
This is unfortunately the most disorganized course I've taken. The content itself is interesting, I highly enjoyed taking OB class before, but the professor has made it a very bad experience for me. She's not approachable via email as she's very confrontational, and doesn't seem helpful or nice in person. Will not be taking her class again.
I took an on-line course with her. Very demanding, detail-oriented and a tough grader. However, she is also very fair and open to students. Takes a while to respond to her e-mails, but is always helpful. Good course facilitator.
One of the worst professors I had in my life. Control Freak and would spend hours just by simply organizing a test day. The topic is interesting but She thinks smiling makes her classes interesting. Treats college students like brainless teens regarding discipline and that's really annoying. I would avoid her at all costs.
She is a really nice lady, however I have not enjoyed this course at all. It is too heavily group based. There is group homework almost every week for the entire term. If you're ended up in a team whom you don't get along well with, it will complicate matters even more. She doesn't seem to have a concern for giving marks back.
She is VERY unorganized in the course and does not provide specific instructions. She is rude with feedback and when you ask for clarification on an assignment she does not reply in a timely manner or at all. If you have a class with her I recommend you drop it as soon as possible! AVOID IF POSSIBLE
Shes a vry nice lady but an annoying prof. Very picky about small things like colour coding papers, precisely labelling emails in her format, combining and renaming assignments, printing and reprinting copies of homework, etc. Every week there is an assignment based on a step in the rec. & sel. process (group work). Felt exam was too long for 3hrs
She does not post grades in a timely manner. Not specific at all when it comes to tests or assignments with instructions or what to study. You'll be tested on things that weren't discussed in class. She can be sweet but get on your nerves at the same time. This course consisted of an individual assignment, midterm, group presentation/report & final
OMG, the amount of paper work and assignments we did in the class was countless. She hands in a ton of paper for the assignments some of which is useful and the rest goes to waste. She is a nice person, but not a great professor. She is sweet but sometimes can get on your nerves with her annoying nature LOL.
You are assigned group tasks every week, and she is very tedious about small things like what to label your document or email subject line. Luckily enough, I had a very organized team, but I can see how annoying it would be to have poor group mates. Genevieve herself can be very sweet, but kind of crazy at the same time lol. I did enjoy it though.
This course is mostly about group projects. Basically there is group-oriented work due every week and most of time we don't even get a full week to do it. The content is not difficult but she has her own way of doing things which are very obscure and vague. If you are taking this course as a minor, avoid lol. Overall, she is sweet and nice person.
Genevieve is a little crazy but her heart is in the right place. You have to go to class because there is group work every single week that is due days after it is assigned. You really have to stay on top of it! The midterm was all mc so beware! The final is all application, which is great because it's basically a summary of all the group work.
Never take this course with her, so many stupid weekly group assignment. Her marking is tough.
one of the worst teachers, if not the worst teacher to date, she thinks she is so organized when in fact she is the most disorganized person at Ryerson, took this as my PR, was one of my worst decisions at Ryerson. Not only is she unclear about what she wants, she is also rude when you try to clear up the confusion. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
terrible she shared the final mhr 600 exam with rupa our prof and you could tell rupa did not write the exam... figures why professor rupa did not show up to the final exam. Wording was was off avoid this trash prof and her terrible old lady exam candies at all costs.
The run down: Doesn't post PPs she prints them for you, A LOT paper is wasted by her printing things throughout the term (bring a big binder), lots of tedious group assignments that DO NOT have a clear criteria at times. The midterm has things that weren't discussed in class and the final exam was a MARATHON of all group assignments.
A lot of tedious group work and doesn't give much feedback. Final is based on the last three assignments.
she is a very hard marker, especially on your grammer when submitting a assignment. Really strict, not allowed to even have your phone/laptop out during her class, she never post her slides online shell always print them and ATTENDANCE counts. She
Prof is nice. Kills a forest in papers for her classes. Her instructions for group projects are so unclear and she really needs to figure out a way to make her instructions easy to follow. I did extremely well but, she wasn't happy about the performance of the group.
Try your best to avoid her at all costs, even if it doesn't fit into your schedule. She marks super tough, she wastes so much paper, there are endless handouts, lot's of group work and there are assignments due weekly. Furthermore, she is so bad at giving clear instructions and when you ask for clarification she gets offended.
Avoid. Seems nice in class but if you are unsure about anything, she makes you feel stupid for Asking questions. Tedious assignment worth 5%. Useless quiz, 50 multiple choice questions, worth only 5%. The peer evaluation for the team project is done... wait for it.. as a team. wastes sooooooo much paper.
I loved Genevieve as my professor. She is extremely organized and gives you step-by-step outlines to complete everything required. She's extra at times but she cares about the students marks. Only complaint I have is the workload, but its the course outline not her assigning it. Every assignment was extremely easy and prepares you for the final
Great prof! Knows how to teach
For something that could've been interesting and fun, she really sucks it all out. You would think she'd communicate better being a communications teacher but her assignments are so unorganized and unnecessarily confusing. She's very defensive and passive-aggressive. Tip: Just go in and out of class. Avoid talking to her, she yells sometimes.
Avoid!, Mandatory attendance every class, deduction of marks if you skip. VERY vague instructions to assignments and when you ask her about clarification she gets annoyed. Lectures are extremely boring, she just reads off slides, too many words on slides and content is outdated (statistics on slides and readings are from 10+ years ago)
if you actually care about your GPA AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. She gives out so much freaking homework, all with unclear guidlines. The worst part is that Shes only helpful if you see her outside of class and that too is only if youre lucky. Our entire class got a B- on our projects. and when you tell her she marked you wrong she says idc
AVOID, for a class that could have been very interesting she makes it brutally boring, reads off slides, vague assignments and test reviews, marks unreasonably hard, gives no proper feedback or instructions, keeps track of attendance and deducts marks if not attending. Info on diversity should be up to date not 10+ years old & loves killing trees.
Genevieve is a nice prof. She is funny and highly energetic. I got a B+ in her class. This class was a lot of work. It had the workload equivalent to my other 2 classes. MAKE SURE YOU START the POP the moment you get it. You can't finish it 1 week before the deadline. 10% attendance, 5% presentation, 20% project, 30% exam, 20% POP, 5% quiz, 5%SASS
Genevieve is extremely unapproachable, a hard marker and very rude. She wastes SO much paper, so get ready for crazy amounts of handouts (so unnecessary). When students ask questions based on what she says, she doesn't respond nicely. I strongly suggest to stay clear of her and far away.
Genevieve makes a class that can be really fun and beneficial stressful and confusing. She does not clearly state what she expects from students. The POP assignment was the worst experience. She wastes a lot of paper which makes things unorganized and confusing. However, her lectures are helpful for when you go back to study.
Never clear on instructions or guidelines. Makes every assignment confusing and if you ask her any questions she doesn't clarify anything. Half the time its a waste of time going to class since she isn't helpful at all. Also she doesn't let you use ur cellphone or laptop. If another prof is available make sure to take them rather than her.
Genevieve gives students crazy long assignments which she is unable to mark on time. Therefore, you go into the exam not knowing majority of your grades. Did you get an F? an A? no one knows until final marks are out. So, unless you like surprises, AVOID!
she takes sooooo long to mark the assignments. she doesnt explain how to do the assignments properly. she is rude. she made everyone pay for a textbook and statlab that we did not use all semester. she is a huge waste of paper. she makes all classes mandatory. engages in dumb activities and waste of time.
Worst "teacher" Ive ever had. She should be tecahing kindergarten at best.
I honestly thought the assignment she was giving us was a joke. We had to make a quilt as a team and we could only do it in class. spent more time talking about quilting and getting supplies than about the content. The exam literally had the most random questions on it that were never covered. She wastes tons of time with useles stuff.
I'm serious avoid Genevieve AT ALL COSTS. This is the worst class I've ever taken and she is the worst prof I've ever had. I should've dropped this course when I had the chance. This is my lowest grade by 10%. Do yourself a favour and just take something else.
Genevieve is an absolute sweetheart and someone who genuinely goes above and beyond for her students. I have done quite a few courses with her and took back a great deal of learning from every course. I would 100% recommend her!
Wastes so much paper and ink with useless handouts. Gets angry when you ask her a question. No cellphones/laptops allowed. Assignments are due LESS THAN A WEEK. Impossible to get perfect on her assignments. Vague/unclear instructions on assignments. Midterm completely based off textbook, so her slides are useless. She should plant some trees. Bad
For an interesting course she made it more difficult than it should be. Very knowledgeable on the course content however hard to approach without her making you feel like you asked a stupid question at times. Sort of vague on assignments but no need to buy a textbook as all of the readings are online. Be sure to read them for your FINAL EXAM!!!!
First of all, she wastes so much paper in printing out slides that are not accessible online! What is even worse that its no used to you for the final exam as it is TEXTBOOK BASED SO PLEASE STUDENTS READ THE CHAPTERS. Group project was decent and be sure to start on the P.O.P assignment once you receive it it cannot be done 2 days b4 the due date.
Although her teaching methods may be a bit old fashion (paper and no electronics), this course was not difficult. There is almost an assignment each week, but it is there to prepare you for the final. Do not be discouraged by low marks in her assignments, as the final and individual assignment will boost your overall gpa in the class.
This is probably the most annoying required course for HR students at Ryerson. But, Genevieve does a good job teaching the content. She marks the assignments fairly easy, as long as you follow her instructions. For the team project, she gives time in class to work on it.
Have her for more than 2 classes, awful lots of group work. Tons of unnecessary paper that we need to print out. Midterm and exam have nothing to do with her lectures. Thinks she is very organized but her class always ended up being a mess where no one understands anything.
My second time taking her besides 623 as shes the only prof that teaches. Very tedious assignments and lectures are useless. A lot of wasteful handouts. Midterm is based off the textbook, not her slides. Training session presentations and final exam was cancelled because of the pandemic, got blessed on that part. Overall an annoying course by her.
Shes so annoying, makes everyone do so much unnecessary work. Thank god I didnt have to take this class in person because I wouldve dropped out of it as she makes it so hard to sit through. Full 3 hour classes with 100+ slides in lecture. Makes group so so much work, and has different people submit every class which is also unnecessary
Genevieve can be great or horrible, depending on what you value in an instructor. At the end of the day, I walked away from the course feeling like I got my money's worth. HATED heavy workload, reliance on group work, assignment criteria and course changes all over the place LIKED genuine, fair marker, provided feedback, quirky
Edited rating*. She can be great or horrible, depending on what you value in an instructor. I walked away from the course feeling like I got my money's worth but wouldn't take her course again. I agree with all the other comments. My group had to redo some work because she didn't clarify the criteria the first time.
I'm so glad that I took this course online like I didn't have to go to the class. She is a nice and knowledgeable person also she knows what she is doing. But her grading criteria were not consistent and I found her bit harder for grading part. She is really confused and does not provide proper instruction for the assignment. She is very difficult
Literally the worst prof I have ever had, she made me reconsider my major every single class. Would take marks off for things she didn't tell us to do and then refuse to explain any further. If she decides she doesn't like you or your group, it's over. Avoid her at all costs. I have no idea why her score is so high.
She is a late marker, she gives a lot of feedback but its all vague and not helpful because she has trouble articulating herself. She always has a moving goal post so you may do something she wants on an assignment and she will tell u after marking that's not what she wanted. Very late market. Bad feedback. Unhelpful. Rude. Avoid if you can.
Very hard marker and gives lots of unnecessary work. Quite unorganized and has very high expectations. Most people would be better off not taking this course (or any) with her.
The attitude on her is unbelievable. I have never witnessed such a rude prof. So much unnecessary group work. Strange activities that don't relate to content. Marks as if she thinks you've studied HR for 20+ years. Always complains she has too much work, like what do you want me to do about it? Avoid if you value your mental health and gpa.
Idk why she has a lot of bad ratings, Genevie is an amazing prof and she cares so much about her students (and not just their grades). Her teaching style is fun and engaging, she is a very sweet person. I will admit there is group work every class but it is not anything too difficult, just read the case studies assigned and your good!
The most unorganized prof I have had so far. I never understood how she grades because she refuses to give us feedback on weekly assignments. Attending class is for participation marks, you don't actually learn anything. Takes way too long to grade and always uses an unprofessional excuse as to why she takes so long to grade. Try getting Ellen Choi
Professor Genevieve is definitely a very caring, and energetic professor. She always brings a good level of energy to her lectures. However, the midterm and the exam make up 75% of the entire course, and so messing up either one will result in your mark plummeting. The course itself is fairly difficult, and so the grading can be really obscure.
To be perfectly honest. Shes is by far the best prof Ive ever had. She hands you all resources in order to succeed. There is assignments weekly but those are very simple to finish with your group. Will take more courses with her. An absolute gem!!!!!
I took this class as an upper year that needed to fulfill requirements. Like many students, I was shocked by my midterm grade since I used a lot of relevant theory to answer and did my best to communicate this concisely. The class average was in the low 60s I believe which is INSANELY low for an HR course btw. My mark for the final was similar.
Prof does not lecture properly - you basically have to teach yourself the content. She gives you 90% of class time with your group but you have no guidance for the project. Everything was really disorganized and made the course 10x more difficult than It needs to be.
I've never had more weekly work for a class and this is my 2nd degree: Textbook/Required readings + Modules with 9+ items to read/watch + mandatory quiz + prep case study. Class Skims material briefly then assigns group work. ZERO empathy for student tech issues but expects understanding when she has them. Enthusiastic but needs to retire!
Honestly, she's pretty kind and very enthusiastic about the subject. But, she's so unclear about her grading criteria for tests which made me do horrible on the midterm and final. Lectures are practically useless but its mandatory to attend for participation.
Professor Farrell brings great energy and knowledge to each lecture. She makes boring topics learnable with great examples of theory. However, marking criteria is not clear and many students are surprised by Midterm & Exam grades. It is my understanding that the TA's mark these assessments. They would be rated super low, however Farrell is great!
COVID Edition: She is such a sweetheart and enthusiastic about her lectures. Lectures are an hour long, with rest of time reserved for breakout rooms. There are lengthy weekly readings from the textbook followed by quiz. If you do the readings and take notes the midterm and final will be easy.
I have taken Genevieve for other courses and she's a great teacher! She taught me the most at Ryerson that is applicable to the HR field. Very easy A.
She was a very bad professor. Please stay away if you can.
She is the reason why extroverts are annoying. Constant yak yak yak, never stops talking, useless pointless things she wants u to sumbit , most of them for no marks, one form asks for lol marriage status, no of childeren, cell phone number and other inappropriate things, wants u to attend class or threatens to fail u for certain assignments
Sweet woman, passionate about what she teaches. Easy marks from in class participation assignments (so show up to class) and online quizzes on each chapter. Midterm and final were fair case study formats. Her TA marked really hard for the midterm and final though. No recorded lectures.
And i quote her exact words, " the reason this course is fun and different is because this course is all about YOU,YOU, YOUUUUUU!!!!!! You will feel like a 6 year old taking a course with her , only dumb kids who sit through the whole 3 hrs and actually enjoy it can tolerate her, i like professors who get to the point, that aint her
Don't be scared off after taking a look at the course outline. I know there are tons of work to do. But they are all very simple if you FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. I can't stress this enough, YOU NEED TO ATTEND THE CLASSES. if u don't you might as well drop the course. She will be very valuable to your level of knowledge in the recruitment field.
the most unorganized prof i've ever had. talks for half an hour then puts you in your breakout room to work on her tedious assignment that has unclear instructions. avoid at all costs but shes unfortunately the only prof who teaches this course
Most stressful and chaotic class I've taken. With constant projects and papers due, she genuinely believes she is doing a favour by not assigning a midterm or final. I would rather have those than do these tedious and dumb projects. Absolute worst, assigns things that are so long and useless. She must believe we aren't enrolled in other classes.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Just because there is no midterm or final - AVOID. Her POP assignment is so terrible. She barely talks about it and it is so pointless. AVOID taking this course. I questioned why I have to write this assignment at least 500 times while typing. She is the worst. Mind you the break out rooms are so annoying.
3+ assignments each week to do for all of her classes (avg. 20/week if taking full load), she has to realize that students are taking more than 1 class at a time. Lots of long self-assessments, quizzes, reports, and group work, not enough time in between assignments. Irritated when students ask questions, disorganized and does not give much clarity
Shes a really sweet lady but her lectures & assignments are super confusing. She refused to provide us a rubric for an assignment worth 30% and told us just to follow her instructions. She also doesnt have any education or work experience in HR yet teaches most MHR courses...
Second time I had her and I hated it both times. She teaches like you are 5 year olds but grades like you are experts in the fields. SO many useless quizzes and surveys, she barely gives feedback and takes forever to grade. No midterm or final but they'r replaced with assignments that make you wish you had exams instead. Avoid if you can
As much as the lectures were simple and easy to understand - I would not retake this with this prof as it's way too much homework every week (if you work fulltime - this is horrible ) Good thing this was online as I cannot imagine having to present in a live classroom + have so much assignments to print out + very demanding on formatting.
I dropped this class to take with a different prof. Class was simultaneously overwhelming and boring. Super disorganized. Slides were a mess. There were so many assignments each week, and zero flexibility if you missed something. Assignment instructions were unclear. Giant group project in a large team. Avoid her if you possibly can.
Being a mature student, often it can be overwhelming. Genevieve Farrell, was an amazing professor. She was always willing to support her students in-class & out of class. Often I would email for direction, and she always gave a timely response. I believe she retired :( which is a shame, it would have been great to have her in another program.
