Unlike English classes I took in HS this was a really useful and informative class. She always seemed prepared and was clear in her instructions. She can be a hard grader though.
She was a very good professor, the class is very organized and she makes it clear what she expects of you. Grading is somewhat hard but the workload is very manageable. One of the best professors I've ever had. Eye candy :)
This was a great class. She was challenging, but really allowed for an open class and good discussions. I appreciated her feedback and my writing is a lot stronger.
Great class. The reading choices were compelling, and I like the way she pushed me to think more critically. She was always available for help and the whole experience made me a better thinker and writer. The workload was manageable. I enjoy reading fiction now.
She's way too hard of a grader. There are 5 papers in the class; 2 of which are in class. Quizzes almost every day of class meaning perfect attendance is a must. The quality and teaching is VERY good but overall too hard of a grader. If you are a slacker stay away and if you're the type that tries you'll be pulling hair on that boarder between A/B
She's definitely a hard grader. She's a bit vague in her lessons and when you ask for help she suggests you show up for office hours (instead of expanding on her lessons in class). Can be uptight. Class will challenge you and the workload is relatively heavy. Participation and group work is mandatory.
Ms. Z was great. Good class.
She is very hard on grading essay and test. Very helpful but mood swing can get involved into teaching!!!
FINALLY an English teacher who actually helps your writing instead of just droning on and on. I didnt think she was a hard grader either because she tells you EXACTLY what you need to do on an assignment and helps you if you don't understand. We need more English teachers like this.
Loved her!!!! She is one of the best professors at OCC. She is so sweet and caring, and she really makes the class comfortable for her students. I hated English before I took her and I really enjoyed her class. Class consisted of 3 essays, a midterm, a final, and a short presentation. (GROUP presentation-don't worry!). Got an A.
Good class! I've learnt a lot from her. She is straight forward and always willing to help you. Read 2 books, quiz almost daily, 3 essays plus midterm and final. She is so strict in grading the essays but goes easy on midterm and final. Not an easy A class though. I found myself struggling between A and B, but I finally settled with an A.
I absolutely love her and she is one of the best professors at OCC. Please take a class with her if you have the opportunity.I learned so much from her English 101 class, and actually refer back to her techniques and writing tips all the time. She really pushed us to think outside the box, engage in class discussions, and strive for excellence.
She's very clear and definitely confident in teaching wise. She knows what she is doing. Took her class in the summer and her pet peeve is coming to class late. Hard essay grader but makes you better. But overall, she drops quizzes, gives extra credits, and SUPER helpful. Don't expect an easy A without doing the work. Attend class and work hard!
Great teacher, although she does expect a lot from her students. Don't be late to class. Really nice and is always willing to help. I took her during summer; she drops 2 quizzes and offers extra credit. Read you will be quizzed the next day (easy points)She also lets you re write an essay for a higher grade.
LOVE her! She's one of the best professors at OCC. She teaches you how to become a better writer & gives you clear directions. While the material is a little hard, she helps you out with extra credit, dropped quizzes, and easy assignments. I had her twice and got an A both times. Lectures are fun and interesting. TAKE HER!
This professor does an absolutely amazing job. She is very helpful, so do not be afraid to ask questions! She is also very nice towards her students. Do all of your readings because you have little quizzes on them. Pay attention and learn your best. It is an eye opening class.
Ms. Z is my absolute favorite. She completely transformed me as a writer. Unlike other teachers who only want to feed you ideas and expect you to spit them back out to get a good grade, Ms. Z values her students and the ideas they have. No one feels stupid for speaking up or saying what they think. She truly helps you be the best you can be.
She is difficult and has high expectations of her students. Pay attention to the methods she goes over in class and use them in your writing if you want to do well. I've learned a lot and I like her, but you can't slack.
Such a tough grader! It was a bitter struggle until the end since you don't know how she's grading. Wrestled through a B and with an 89 she bumped me to an A :) yay.
One of my favorite classes. 3 papers, 2 exams. She helped us prepare for each. The books were sometimes difficult, but she made everything accessible and interesting. I thought she made expectations pretty clear.
Mrs. Z, she's a great professor and she really challenges her students to become better writers. She is not your easiest pick for English Professors, but she is very clear about what she expects from you. If you expect an "A" in this class you won't be able to conjure up these papers the night before. Her quizzes are great grade boosters though.
She takes her job seriously, respect her and she will respect you. She keeps the class fresh and always improving her teaching. She hard working and is there to help you. I enjoyed her class and I'm a math major. I recommend her.
She is great, a combination of encouraging and helpful and funny with high standards. I really learned a lot of writing techniques and I appreciated all her feedback and her offers to revise some work. You'll get what you work for in this class and you will be a more capable writer when done. Take Zuidervaart!
Professor Z is amazing! Took her for Eng 275, and am really happy that I did. There's going to be a lot of reading (it's English), a lot of writing (it's English), and a lot of quizzes. The quizzes are simple as long as you keep reading, and she's always there to help if you need it. Would take her again!
Mz. Z is the best, took her before. Taking her for 101 next semester. She's only teaching at night, so I dropped a 101 class I just enrolled in in favor of her night class. You won't regret it. Prompts are clear. Be ready to work.
She's incredibly understanding and one of the best teachers. She is willing to guide you through your essays and wants you to succeed. She cares about teaching and her students. Don't wait till the last minute to do your essays. Polish your essays. And see her during office hours for help. Seriously, don't slack off if you want that A.
Ms. Zuidervaart is the best instructor I've had since I've been attending OCC. I had her last semester for ENG100 and I am taking her now for ENG101. She clearly outlines what is expected and easy to talk to. The books she chooses for the required reading is interesting. I would totally recommend her! She is awesome! :)
Really tough professor expects you to write like you are an english major. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless you are an english major she is a extremely tough grader and isn't flexible with how you write.
I am a terrible writer and Ms. Zuidervaart was such a good professor, I ended up with an A in her class. I loved the books she assigned. She is very willing to help, really cares for her students and very clear on what she wants for her papers. She assigns papers 4 weeks before they are due. However, reading is required. Quizzes are every week.
I became interested in literature because of this class. She loves her job and makes readings accessible. I feel like I can read and analyze much better. There were 4 papers. You need to read but everything is connected to what you write about. Lots of quizzes, but these are not hard .
You will need to read a novel in this class. lecture will be good and will involve group sessions so you will meet new people. she grades really tough but read the prompt and answer the prompt! you will do fine if you do those things.
Great professor. She has helped me so much to be a better writer. Make sure to show up on time and ready to take a quiz every day. Easy B, but rather difficult to get an A though.
Great teacher. Easy B. I took her for 100 and 101.
She'll rip apart your writing and you'll be better for it. Be ready to work. I've taken a lot of what I learned in her class and used in my other classes. She's tough but clear in what she wants from you. Follow directions and, as she says, "dig deeper".
She gives the occasional quiz but they're really easy and only a few questions long. The class does require reading, but the things we read aren't too long. We basically prepare for essays and do essays.
I fought for a B in this class. She's really nice and makes the readings understandable and even interesting, but she is a tough grader. There is a lot of reading, 2 big papers, 2 small papers and a final. She makes some papers complicated so you have to show you understand the works you pick.
I loved having her for English! Her class is not easy, you definitely have to put in work. There is a lot of reading involved, quizzes on assigned reading, and many essays required. She's a pretty easy grader on essays, I managed to get B's on three, and A's on one. She gives good feedback on essays, as well. All in all, great professor.
I didn't take any English class before this class, so it was very overwhelming at first. After awhile, thanks to Prof. Zuidervaart, my reading, writing and researching skills became better. Now I can write a 4-5pages assignment without any struggles. I would love to take her Eng101 next semester. Be ready to read and don't procrastinate.
Professor Zuidervaart is great and passionate about her job. She offers plenty of extra credits, is a tough grader but she gives helpful comments on your paper, quizzes are easy (if you read before class). You will enjoy her class if you spend adequate time reading and writing at home. Eng101 during summer is not recommended though.
Professor is decent. She is a pretty tough grader, and has lots of quizzes. Her essay prompts are unclear and doesn't really help out that much with them. Her essay comments aren't helpful, and didn't help that much with my writing skills. I don't think she truly cares about her students that much, and isn't good at emails. isnt horrible but is bad
I took her for ENGL100 .There is a quiz in the beginning of every class so you do have to read. There is a lot of group discussions and peer review. For the midterm there is an in class essay and for the final there is a research paper and a presentation. I failed because I got discouraged but if you put in the work and like group discussions you will most likely pass.
Lots of work, but it was a summer school class so that maybe made it tougher. She's very clear and gives really specific feedback, including voice comments on turnitin which was a first for me. First english teacher I've had that made literature seem interesting and relevant. I'd take her if there was another english class I needed to take.
Always willing to help and clarify something I was doing wrong. Writing can be overwhelming and I feel like her class taught me how to handle papers and not lose my mind. Everyone in our class seemed to like her. She gives many examples.
Amazing teacher. She's tough, but breaks down everything in such a way that shows how much she cares and wants everyone to pass. She's entertaining and genuine, clear on what she is looking for and very sweet. I definitely recommend taking this class.
Prof Z is not an easy A, especially for the honors segment. But her class is really educational, and she makes you a better writer, listener, and a thinker in so many ways! She inspires, rather than requiring, everyone in the class to participate, and there's plenty of group discussions and interaction. Overall her class was an awesome time!!!
Great great teacher. She improved my writing a lot. Really made me work for my grade. Ended with a B. If you're looking for an easy A, go elsewhere. Pretty tough grader.
I'm the most shy when it comes to participation but Prof Z's class made me want to speak up. Her lectures are taught in a way that make you think differently about the text and she gives you the tools to feel confident in your work. I saw papers differently because of her and my writing improved greatly. With that said she is a tough grader!
English classes are usually boring to me, but Mrs. Z's passion for the works we read made it a fun and interesting class. She gives really good feedback on papers and I saw my writing and critical thinking improve throughout the semester. There's 3 draft workshops in class to get feedback from your peers and a group project for the 3rd essay.
I thought this class would be difficult, but I ended with a 95%. EC given, quizzes weekly, one group project and one tests, 4 essays (1 is in class). I would recommend her to anyone, she's super caring and understanding and her class was never boring. Take her!!
This class was a challenge. I worked hard to get a B (I usually earn As) and if you are up for the challenge, you will become a better writer than where you started. She will push you, but like others say, she is kind and gives lots of examples. Great class.
Awesome class! I will take more English classes with her.
She gives extra credit in her quizzes which are pretty much daily. They aren't hard if you read the assigned text. She drops one or two of them anyway. The readings are pretty interesting. I used to suck at critical thinking but now I'm a lot better. Her feedback for her essays are super helpful. Take her during the summer.
She is such a TOUGH grader. Take her if you are an English major. I wouldn't recommend her. Take another professor.
Take her if you're an english major. You have been warned.
She is a very caring teacher who will give amazing feedback on her essays. She has relatively high standards for her essays because we go in depth every story we read.
I've enjoyed this class. It is challenging, but she doesn't ask you to do anything out of reach. Her feedback is great, helpful. You do have to read a lot and you practice based on that in class but a lot of what we do goes into essays. She always offers examples.
Her class is awesome! It may seem tough because of the topics you write about and the depth you must obtain on the readings but it is not an impossible class! If you give it your best effort and are seriously interested in becoming a better writer take her.
One of the best English classes I have ever taken. Prof Z makes you work hard for your grade but this really helps you become a better writer/reader. I usually hate reading but the stories she picked were intriguing. She also gives back REALLY GOOD feedback on essays, the best I have ever received. She is caring and wants everyone to succeed.
We had 2 big papers and two small papers, plus a final. I really enjoyed her teaching style. It's hard not to do well if you pay attention and she was available outside of class.
Zuidervaart is a great professor but a VERY tough grader. I got 81% on the 1st essay, 91% on the 2nd (which was in class), 91.5% on the 3rd, and 93.5% on the 4th. Her feedback makes it clear what you need to improve on in the next essay. 14 quizzes (lowest 1 is dropped), 1 group presentation, 1 short exam, 4 exams. Possible to get an A, but hard.
She comes off as nice and laid back, but she's way too tough of a grader and she doesn't give you feedback on your rough drafts, she has you pair with students and you have to trust them to spot your mistakes. I also emailed her about visiting office hours and seeing if there's a way to fix my grade and she brushed it off in a rude way.
I would recommend this class. Sure, it's challenging but she gives lots of examples and she's there to help. I think I'm more successful in other classes because of this semester.
Super caring. Explains concepts well. Great class.
I took English 100 with her, she is caring and willing to help if she understands that you are applying yourself. Her teachings style is very good. I had never written an essay before and I finished the class with a high B. I worked a lot, but that is how school should be. Currently taking 101 with her and I'm loving it. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Excellent class.
Still in class, Funny at times, tells stories. Lots of reading from unit packets to a book at the end of the year,(which the book changes every two semesters, she will mention), gives feedback on essays, gives extra credit, need to be there like in every class,(I think), can reach her in office hours, does group stuff,(good thing), ....
She's a really great professor! She cares about her students and is always willing to help out with essays and give feedback on them. She has reading packets for most of the semester and follow up quizzes with extra credit. She prepares you really good for the essays so as long as you pay attention and show up you will do just fine!
I loved professor Zuidervaart! I took her for 100 too. She's a tough grader but she challenges you to be a better writer. ALWAYS do the reading assigned before class because she usually quizzes you at the start of class. Definitely my favorite professor and I'm not even an English major.
She is very organized and straightforward. Her explanations are clear. The class is full of class discussions that make students engaged in the class. I learned a lot from this class about writing and about various topics that the class went through. Going through her class helped me a lot with my writing skills. I 100% recommend that you take her!
She will grade your papers HARD. The best grade I got on a paper was a 92 and that thing was a work of art! It was sooo hard just to get a B in her class and just by effort I definitely deserved an A. Be prepared for pop-quizzes. Also for the first like two moths I had a 110% in her class!! It was gone so quickly after that with the 6th exti. book
Mrs. Zuidervaart is a very nice teacher and is genuinely interesting. However, when it comes to essays, she is an extremely harsh grader. She gives very basic remarks on the returned essays and grades much lower than her suggested corrections indicate. Take another 101 teacher if at all possible. Mrs. Z is unrealistically difficult in her grading.
Very nice person and fantastic teacher, but unreal in how harsh her grading is. Would not recommend, and this is from a 4.0 English major.
I loved Zuidervaarts class. Always prepared, very clear with her assignments. Willing to help either in person and over email. Not the easiest class but Im currently acing my English 101 class because of what I learned in her 100 class.
in Zuidervaart's class the hardest thing about it is that you make sure you do the essays RIGHT! I'm a terrible writer but I followed her prompt carefully and got a decent grade. I would definitely take her class again if I need to :) 4 essays 1 rewrite if you want caring and helpful. If I don't show up to lecture I'm lost
4 essays. You can rewrite 1. There are a lot of steps and examples for each and I liked that. The reading is interesting. About 1 article every week. Some are easy. Some difficult. Super approachable and organized professor. Her standards are not impossible or harsh, at least to me.
very helpful and provides extra credit.
I absolutely loved the way she teaches. She is able to guide and push class discussions and materials to maintain interest and critical thinking. A very caring professor that really wants her students to do their best. I've spent lots of time after class talking with her to improve my writing but she's also a great person to talk to about anything!
Prof. Zuidervaart is one of the BEST professors here at OCC! She really teaches you how to think philosophically and not be so on the surface. Although she is a tough grader, she pushes you to do your best and offers helpful feedback on every essay. Go to her office hours; they help a lot. Offers extra credit and hw was manageable. Shes awesome!
The professor was never accessible during office hours because she spent too much time with some students. I tried twice to meet with her and both times she was too busy to meet. The feedback I was given by her for papers was thirty seconds of recorded audio and so brief I never could understand the errors she saw in my work or how to improve.
This class was a great experience. Not too hard, but challenging. She gives many examples of what she wants and is generally passionate about what she teaches. I recommend Zuidervaart.
I did not really like that she spent the first half of the semester solidifying grammar, but other than that, great assignments/essays to get you critically thinking. Helps establish good habits of analyzing and LOTS of discussions. She grades essays pretty harsh though, but her feedback helps you become a better writer for sure.
Amazing professor! She gives really good feedback and makes sure she takes her time to help her students.
She is a tough grader, during lectures she does give out good ideas that you wouldnt normally think about. There are about 1 inside the class essay. I believe overall she is narcissistic and no matter how hard you try; it still isnt good enough for his standards.
She's a really chill prof, and she leads interesting discussions. The works she picks to read are well-rounded and interesting. Work really hard on the two take-home essays and use her office hours. She really prepares you for the in-class essays, so don't miss class leading up to test days. Readings are due in every class as well as journals.
Would definitely take her for another English class.
Terrible professor, it's sad too. She isn't very good at teaching and explaining. If you're not one to study and work REALLY HARD then this class isn't for you. DON'T TAKE HER.
Of the four teachers I had this past semester when all my classes went online, she was easily the best at using zoom and canvas to put class stuff online so students could still access it and her. Def not an easy A but not unreasonable either. She was super flexible about deadlines and stuff because of the coronavirus outbreak which helped.
You will work in this class, but she is always clear and helpful. I felt like I became a stronger writer.
Prof Zuidervaart is a gem of a teacher, take her! She used to be the English chair and stepped down a little bit ago if I'm not mistaken. If you're good at English, this class will be easy. The lectures are straightforward and you do 4 papers (3 over the summer). Each one is to hone in certain skills; show her you can do those, and you'll do great.
She is a great professor and I would definitely take her again. There are lots of papers but I love work. If you want to learn a lot she's just gold.
Great professor for 100. She really seems to love her job and wants to help her students. Decent amount of papers and assignments, but it is definitely doable as long as you hold yourself accountable.
I had her my first year of college and she was great! You are required to buy books. I normally dont like reading but u enjoyed what she assigned and she makes it easy to understand. Great professor!
Professor Z is a good teacher but this class is definitely not an easy A. She is a harsh grader and can sometimes be too harsh of a grader. Do not take her course if you don't want to put the work in. I had an A for pretty much the entire semester but then it went down to a B because she started grading harder. Do not take her!
She is very good at teaching, I have learned more about writing in her ENG100 class than I did during the entirety of high school. And she knows how to use zoom and canvas. A big portion of the grade is writing essays. Her class is challenging but not unreasonably so. Scheduling office hours with her is very easy and she is very helpful.
If you have proficient writing skills you will be fine. Her workload is very average, and you have lots of time to prepare for each essay (4). She offers great feedback that really helps your writing skills. As long as you put effort into every assignment you can definitely end with an A.
Professor Zuidervaart is a really great professor. There is mandatory class attendance every week. Her workload is pretty average and she gives you a couple of days to complete it. She has three big papers which includes small assignments to help keep you on track. Overall, if you stay proficient in her class you will get a good grade.
Great professor. You write little assignments to get early feedback for papers. This helped me a lot and my grades improved over the semester. Her online stuff is clear and I thought she made the Zoom meetings interesting. Would recommend.
She is such a caring teacher. She does give a lot of extra points.
I learned way more in this class than I ever did in high school. Class can be tough, but you get what you put in. I was never lost because she gives so many examples and answers emails immediately. Super organized. Good class.
Passive aggressive is the best way to explain her grading criteria, when she reviews drafts she gives you the go ahead and then attacks at the final grade. She makes a myriad of mistakes in lecture. her grading is based on personal feelings rather than the work itself. Avoid
Professor Zuidervaarts class has been my favorite English class by far! All of the annoying problems I have had with professors disorganization has disappeared in her class. Her syllabus and Canvas are organized perfectly which makes my OCD very happy. There is a lot of reading for the class, but she pairs it with helpful lectures. Take her class!
My favorite professor this semester. She always gave really helpful feedback on assignments and essays. She prepares you and gives you all the information and skills you will need for each essay you write so you're not lost like other English teachers leave you. Good sense of humor. Understanding. Genuinely wants to see you succeed.
Professor Zuidervaart taught me so much about British Literature! I loved this class because of her lectures but I was constantly working in this class. Readings were interesting and annotating is a must. Very passionate teacher and a tough grader. Sensible for students especially during finals week. Great class though.
Prof Z is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had! She knows what she is doing. Not super knit picky on debated gram errors but CHECK your in-text citations. Pay attn to her instruction, take all ex-cred, and use the tutor center if need be. There are about 4 big papers, but she sets you up for success. Wish I could have had her in person.<3
Great professor.
I took one of her hybrid classes this semester and I enjoyed it. She grades essays pretty thoroughly but there were only two and plenty of other work to make up for them if you didn't do so great. Lots of chances for extra credit.
She will go out of her way to help you
Zuidervaart was a good professor. There are 3 main essays + 3 small ones that connect. She gave specific feedback. Very organized, so it's not a confusing class. She hides questions in the online lectures so you pay attention and covers a lot in class. If I missed a classroom meeting, I was lost. Caring.
I miss this class a lot! Prof. Zuidervaart provides you with a great foundation for the Large Assignments & a lot of help--office hours, helpful feedback, etc. I felt like I was challenged to be a better student & to widen my worldly knowledge, yet the course load was reasonable. She also genuinely cares for students and tries connecting with them.
AMAZING professor. Go to her office hours and you will be sure to get an A. She genuinely cares about each student and gives feedback at an appropriate time. She accomodates to everyone and goes beyond expectations to help you. Also! use discussions as a study guide to find notes from other students.
Prof. Zuidervaart was an amazing teacher. She gave me great feedback and gave smart lectures. I would suggest her to any student who wants to learn best they can.
Professor Z is fantastic. Her class made me a better student and she will go above and beyond to help you succeed. She gives great feedback, cares about her students, is supportive, and accessible to meet in office hours. I strongly recommend taking her class.
I took her for Fall2022, it was a hybrid class and I would say she really helped me learn a lot. she gives extra credit assignment on Canvas and in class does a lot of group work (which I disliked) but it really helped out in the end. She really wants the best for her students and responds really quick on emails.
Probably one of the best English teachers at Coast. Took her hybrid English100 class and most of the work took less than an hour to do (besides essays) Class consists of 3 main essays with 3 small assignments before class was very load light and essays were graded pretty easily as long as you follow feedback and have some understanding on topic.
Difficult class if English is not your native language. Lot of reading and papers.
This is for the English 100 Hybrid class. The textbook is required for the class, but I never really touched it. She gives great feedback on almost every work you do and gives suggestions for your final papers. Her grading system is not weighted, so make sure you take advantage of all the extra credit opportunities to boost your grade.
The class and professor are awesome!!!! The only downside is pop quizzes, but they are doable if you have previously read the material and homework. Organized canvas with clear directions and feedback! The Professor is super understanding! Must take class if you have no trouble waking up early.
Stay away; she seems nice in class, but the reality, she is not. She does not respond to your email and does not allow you to improve your grade if you are sick and can not come to class.
She is honestly a really nice and understanding professor. Assignments aren't too bad, but make sure you do the reading. There can be random reading checks, but she often gives a little heads-up (she also drops the lowest 2 quiz scores). She does look at in-class activities for participation points, but it's not weighted too heavily on your grade.
she will try to give you the lowest grade possible no matter how hard you try I advice you to not take her class if you care about your grade
I thought this class was very organized for a hybrid. She gave a lot of writing feedback and examples with her essay prompts. She was quick to respond and I generally enjoyed her teaching style.
ECE/ CDE Majors This is a sophomore-level English class. As an ECE major, I had only taken one English class prior. That was not enough for this professor's standards. If you are an education major, this class will make you regret every decision that led you to take this course.
Contradictory, confusing, vague. When asked to clarify her responses further confuse. When challenged she does not listen to logic, she's unable to deviate from her pre arranged responses. Insists on zoom meetings for office hours. Waste of time. Not the worst instructor but far from the best.
She's been great so far. We've read some interesting stuff and she's always really clear about what she expects on assignments. I woudn't say it's easy but it's not that hard either as long as you come to class and do most of the reading.
She's helpful and cares about students.
Loved Mrofessor Z, she gave intresting and thoughtful readings and held great discussions during class.
When writing essays she gives excellent feedback that helps you in the long run. The class wasn't too hard. Just do your homework and it will help you keep your grade up.
She gives good instruction to prepare you for every paper. She also has extra credit. The key is to read and go to class on time so you can take part in the occasional quizzes.
This professor was so amazing and a great class to start your college journey with. She is super kind and gives lots of extra credit. The papers written are about interesting topics and you can write about things you care about. I definitely recommend taking her for any English class.
Fantastic professor! It is very easy to learn about the materials learned in class, given that she is very easy to keep in touch with outside of class. Essays can be a little tough, but you can set up a Zoom meeting to have her assist you and refine your words. I definitely recommend her if you need an English class; I would take her again for sure
Very kind and understanding professor. Only 4 papers and she helps you throughout the process with every one of them. It's easy to understand what she wants to see in each paper, and they were not too hard to write. She does give pop quizzes for the readings but they aren't worth too many points and also offers extra credit to make up for it.
Professor Zuidervaart is amazing and I would take any class she teaches again! The workload wasn't too much or too hard but she chose really good books and assignments and she made the class super fun to be in. She's super easy to reach out to for help and if you need feedback, she gives helpful suggestions and corrections. She's a great instructor
She was a great professor. Essays were decently difficult, and there were a lot of quizzes, but the class was fun.
Prof. Zuidervaart is absolutely lovely. Show up to class and read the required materials. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Never hesitate to reach out if you need help--she is very easy to approach. I felt challenged in the best way possible and left the class feeling far more confident in my writing skills. She is definitely a teacher you want in your life.
I recommend taking this English class with this professor because it was fairly challenging and interesting. The books and other readings we did were some that you wouldn't forget, even if it's been weeks. She is an amazing professor who cares for her students and is approachable.
Professor Zuidervaart makes the class fun and engaging. The workload is manageable, but staying on top of the readings is key. Using study tools like unstuck study alongside the textbook can really help with prep. Overall, a worthwhile class with a helpful, approachable professor.
Honestly, her class isn't bad, but be ready for confusing, vague instructions on assignments. In order to get an A, you need to vigilantly check every outlet for instructions she forgot to include on the main post. If an issue arises, she will tell you constantly to go to office hours and won't budge at all on any grading decisions, regardless.
I took 151 but there's no option for that. She is the most boring, unhelpful professor I've had. She teaches like she's running a high school class. She leads very shallow discussions and super specific essay prompts which she expects you to have a specific answer to and is unhelpful in her feedback. Her class is unengaging and the worst I've taken
I really enjoy her class. The books she assigns are different and interesting. The workload is tough but not overwhelming. Good professor overall.
She doesn't give that much work comapred to other profs I've taken, but none of the assignments help u dig deeper into the texts. Everything is really really shallow and irrelevant to the big main projects she assigns (Essays, quizzes, etc) She's also the only bad/not cool eng prof I've taken at OCC. She had a couple good reading picks.
