Disorganized, unclear lectures, he sometimes stutters and gets stuck on a word. Hard to understand. Gets angry with students and sometimes yells. His math examples are less than clear, seems to dislike teaching and students in general. I hated him.
I agree with the previous comment. He is also paranoid in the extreme. Wears a funny little beret 24/7. Never takes it off. Everyone hates him.
Asks for questions repeatedly, then gets upset when students actually ask. Occasionally gets confused mid-lecture and stops to think for upwards of twenty minutes. Has easy exams, but final grades lines are scaled very high, very hard to get an A
Everything that everyone else said is true. Avoid taking a class with this guy if at all possible.
Lyubeznik's classes aren't too tough. He follows the book pretty closely and his lectures are pretty clear. Easy exams, moderate amount of HW, high gradelines. A bit paranoid, but all in all, a nice guy. (Ignore the reviewers who gave him a 1 because he stutters. It's not like you can't hear a word he's saying or anything. Give him a break!)
I almost didn't take this class because I knew I would have a tough semester and there were a lot of bad reviews of him, but I'm glad I took it. He's not hard to understand at all, and teaches right out of the book. If you can't pass this class, you need to go back to junior high.
This man frustrates me to the extreme. He cannot get through class without getting confused, stuttering, and hacking up a lung into his microphone. It is a very frustrating class to sit through if math isn't your strong suit. He also gets really frustrated when people ask questions, even when he asks for them. AVOID...
I would never make fun of someone for stuttering, and really, the language barrier is minimal. But this guy has some serious issues with soliciting and answering questions. More than once he would pretend to not be able to understand a question, and then act like he'd already answered it. That is a major flaw for an educator to have.
In response to the student claiming that you need to go to junior high if you dont pass the class: Obviously you haven't taken his cryptology course or Honors either. This professor is amongst the absolute worst in the department. Consider yourself warned. Most students skip lecture.
He obviously knows what he's talking about but he also obviously has know clue how to teach it. If you're ok with teaching yourself out of the book, then this class isn't too bad, but if you need a teacher who is good at explaining things this class isn't for you.
Lectures can get boring and confusing. Lyubeznik does a pretty good job explaining the concepts but you have to do some problems outside of class. The tests were pretty straightforward and never really had any surprises.
horrible professor.stopped going to lecture.i leave class in an extremely bad mood.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He is not helpful and is impossible to understand. When he was asked a question, he had no idea how to respond. Multiple times, he told us the wrong answer.
Some of the things he teach doesn't make sense. But compared to one other Precalc II professor, I prefer his style.
he comes off as gruff, and actually may be. however, the **** with a heart of gold maxim applies here. nicest guy in the world if you get to know him. super super smart and teaches the class in a relatively crisp fashion for those who are CAPABLE of understanding. otherwise, don't take honors courses, dummies!
He's not very useful. Expect to learn outside the classroom. I have almost come to terms with learning math on my own because most of the math teachers I've had aren't very good at teaching. One of the most important jobs of professors is teaching, you would think they would learn effective ways to do it.
He was an ok professor. lectures sometimes got confusing. But his exam were pretty straight forward. There were no big surprises on the exams.
He is hard to follow most times because he pauses in the middle of words as if he constantly has brain farts. Class is not really worth going to. He doesn't have structure to his lectures, he just starts teaching and doesn't tell you what you will be learning or why.
The lectures are not that helpful. He goes straight into them. Doesn't give much of an explanation besides just writing down equations and going through them. Its not hard though, just be willing to study from the book on your own a lot.
I wish more professors at the U teach the way he does. He tells you the definition first, then the theory followed by an example or two. Yea it's sorta boring after a while but hey you don't get confused at all. His quizzes are straight from his lecture examples as well. But the 50/50 quiz final grading system is sorta dangerous. I like him!
Completely unapproachable and rude. Weekly quizzes were tough, but the mid terms were easy. The final was completely out of left field and dropped me from a B+ to a C. Unfortunately, this is about the best class I've had within the Math department. It's good to be done forever.
His final is insane and it counts towards 50% off the final grade. It's wayyy harder than the previous in-class quizzes. Impossible to get an A!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM! NEVER!
I was planning on giving him a 5 on easiness, but omg lol the final was so incredibly hard that I literately started laughing during the test. Midterms were straight forward, went into the final with an A and ended with a B+ due to the final. DO THE HOMEWORK = EVERY QUESTION ON THE MIDTERMS. The final was a waste of my time.
He can seem a bit intimidating but really he only gets annoyed when students ask "stupid questions," e.g. "Do we have to know this for the test?" He's actually quite willing to help if you ask an intelligent question or are genuinely confused about something. His lectures are quite clear and his exams are rather easy. Recommended!
He is clear and concise, but he has poor communication skills and a poor attitude. When he is asked a question during lecture, his focus is negatively affected by it, and his response is typically nasty.
A great math professor. He's extremely rude but presents the material very clearly. Midterms were super easy, weekly quizzes were pretty tough (though the TAs write those), and the final was not nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be. Recommended instructor.
He's lecture notes are super clear and straight-forward. Midterms are easy and closely related to what we learned in class and the weekly quizzes. Study hard for the final!!!
Not the nicest nor approachable guy, but he does present the content in a fairly clear manner usually. His tests are not very hard imo and extremely fair. By fair I mean that his exams were exactly identical to the homework questions and would often be the easier of the problems assigned for each section. Overall a pretty good prof.
I'm earning my second bachelors degree and he is easily the worst prof I've ever had. Rude, antisocial, bad attitude. He presents material clearly yet he fails to make it accessible to the student. Midterms/quizzes were easy, problems straight from textbook. BEWARE OF THE FINAL! Final lowered me from an A to a B. THE FINAL WAS RIDICULOUS!
He clearly knows the material that he is teaching, but he would often make simple algebra mistakes. His midterms were not too bad, but they do not even slightly prepare you for the final. The average on the final was under 50%. Would not recommend this professor!!
Terrible professor. He is difficult to understand. Gets confused often, and is not patient with students. If you're taking calc 2 go to youtube and watch patrickjmt. He has every calc 2 subject you need and is the only reason I passed the class. Also the final was ridiculously hard compared to the midterms.
Lyubeznik is a pretty good professor compared to those I've had in other math classes. He is very clear about things and makes good use of the board. His lectures were helpful.
While it is true, Professor Lyubeznik often made mistakes, this did not cause too much deviation from the subject at hand. He makes it clear he has no time to waste on stupid questions during lecture because he only has a limited amount of time. You will need to work fast on his tests, but if you do all of the homework, it isn't very difficult.
adorable professor. since there is no assigned hw, some students dont even try to do the suggested questions. i thought that was a key to success. take him, do the suggested problems and try not to skip classes. not a very hard A.
Gennady follows the text closely. His lectures are really clear, I don't get why people comment about his stuttering which really is a non-issue. His tests are average, usually his first mid-term is super easy but they get harder. Also don't expect him to give good answers to your questions, as he gets annoyed by them.
Worst math professor I have ever had. Instead of covering difficult material more in-depth, he wastes large amounts of time evaluating simple integrals. When people ask him to clarify challenging concepts, he starts yelling and pointing at the board as if everything is supposed to magically make sense. Like okay, thanks.
Pretty clear in lecture, he mostly just does proofs and easy examples. He's a little grumpy and doesn't always like questions asked in class, but he is very open to being corrected when he makes a mistake. Overall I think he's pretty average. First test was super easy, but next one not so much. Do the homework, go to lecture and you'll be fine.
Good Professor. His lectures are ver clear and concise.
Fine teacher but needs to work on his pacing better, often spends great amounts of time on simple concepts such as introducing new coordinate systems, but speeds through advanced theorems such as stokes, greens.... Take him if no better choices are available.
He does a fairly good job on introducing the concepts. A big bonus is that he doesn't give surprise tests. I have found that doing the old exam problems is very helpful, you will get a taste of what the actual exam will be like. Plus, if you actually put some time into the subject, you will find him adorable instead of rude.
Best math professor I had at the U. He gives clear examples and the tests are like the homework. Go to lecture, do the assigned problems and you will be fine. Warning: he does like questions because "lecture time is very limited". But stick around and he will make a quick joke...
Gennady is a good lecturer. By good, I mean just good enough. He is clear and structured but seriously lacks 'aha' moments. You will not feel very motivated. Another problem was his grading criteria. He made mid-1 and 3 too easy and then felt compelled to take a very hard final. You can skip his lectures but go to review classes before exams.
This professor is the worst mathematics professor I have ever had. Were I to take his class again, I would read the book and take notes out of it before attending lecture. His accent is not too bad but he is just not a good teacher. The two big things are: 1) he makes you feel like and idiot 2) GOOD LUCK getting help at office hours
Maybe because this was a higher level class he was a bit more relaxed. He doesn't get to know his students well (class of only 23) which was a little off-putting, but he warms up to you and cracks a few jokes. Read the book before asking a question, but do ask in-depth questions that extend the material. Tests were not surprising at all.
Really clear-cut lectures and straightforward exams. There's no surprises, just write down all the definitions he puts on the board and know them for the exam. He's also really clearly passionate about the subject and gives very good explanations when you have questions.
A nice professor. You'd better attend lecture and take notes. He always asks "are there questions" after finishing a theorem or an example, so feel free to stop him. Also, doing assigned homework is very useful. Exam problems are similar to class examples and homework questions. PS: if you are extremely lazy, every math class is boring for you.
Not the worst, but not the best. Doesn't "curve", instead makes the first test easy, the second test very hard, and third test medium. If you do poorly on one of the exams it is very hard to recover your overall grade. Lots of word problems and applications on exams, which weren't discussed in as much detail as general topics in class.
A very interesting lecturer with a nice Russian accent. He has bad hearing, so he often asked "I'm sorry, who is speaking," and lacks some common sense, which was sometimes funny. It's hard to recover from one bad test, so be over prepared for every test, especially #2. Most importantly, he never showed up to office hours, which plummeted my grade.
Prof has a thick accent, difficult to understand. His lectures consist of him writing various proofs, definitions, theorems on the whiteboard - terrible handwriting. That's it. You learned everything in discussion or from homework. Quizzes weekly, 3 midterms. This course is Linear Algebra and Diff Eq together. 5 days a week, gets tough and old fast
Not a great lecturer, mostly just gives a lot of theory, but he makes tests very easy if you do the homework. Only about an hour or two a week plus a couple more before the midterms.
Professor is knowledgeable however tends to focus too much on proof and theory- and less application. Fortunately if you go to discussion you should get some good practice and examples in. Truthfully, lecture doesn't make a big difference as long as you go to discussion and keep up on homework (which are like the test questions). PS love the beret
Mr. Stripe Shirt & Beret (seriously he wears this everyday) is possibly the most sarcastic professor ever (not in a good way). He rolls his eyes when people ask questions, scoffs at any suggestion, and is overall an angry person. He spends a long time doing proofs instead of examples. He also messes up with little mistakes on the board. Not helpful
I finished well above average for midterms, almost getting 100% on one of them. and only a little below average for one. Thought the final was pretty okay, nothing too bad but managed to get a failing grade. I am dissatisfied with how this class has been handled as we did not even have a moodle page set up.
Avoid if possible. He was condescending in lecture, sometimes scoffing at students like they were stupid for not knowing the new material. Not approachable or helpful in any way, often wrote down proofs and theorems without any further explanation. Tests are relatively easy, you are better off teaching yourself instead of going to lecture.
Prof. Lyubeznik is clearly very intelligent, but he is an absolutely abysmal teacher. I attended office hours one time and it was not a good experience. If you give a wrong answer during the lecture or ask a "stupid" question, he tends to scoff and respond in a patronizing manner. I did receive a good grade, but I credit that to outside studying.
Professor Lyubeznik is a very good mathematician, but he is very condescending towards students and does not answer student questions. Rather, he usually makes fun of the question or tries to answer a different question that makes students look dumb. In terms of the course, the assigned homework does not really correlate with tests or quizzes.
Professor Lyubeznik was an amazing lecturer. He made a few mistakes, but was always open to correction. He always would stop every so often to ask if anyone had any questions. He kept things simple and clear, and his lecture examples were relevant to the exams. The discussion sections associated with this course helped a lot too.
1. He wrote down all the Def in class, which helps to make things clearly. 2. He's tests seem standard. 3. He will answer the proper questions. 4. Sometimes he couldn't hear the voice from back of the classroom. 5. Interesting, he likes to eat sweet food.
This professor is super condescending when asking questions from previous courses. His teaching was not helpful at all. I would go back to my room and watch videos on Khan Academy on the material. But his tests are pretty easy as long as you do the homework.
Gennady is very condescending. Whenever someone would ask a question in class, he would make fun of the kids for asking the question and mock them instead of answering it. He did not take the time to make sure the students even understood his lecture. He knows his stuff, yet the students are too intimated by him to ask questions.
His lectures are very hard to understand. He gives the definition and principles for each chapter, but they make no sense and are straight from the book. He seems to know a lot about calculus, but he is very condescending. Honestly, I learn more from my TA than from him. Unless you know a little calculus, I would avoid him as much as possible
- not the most approachable Prof. -He comes prepared to lectures and does very relevant examples. -He has a thick accent -Quiz every Tue. 10 points 25% (EASY) - 3 midterms (no surprises, like hw) each 15% 45% -Final 30% - probably a huge curve - Im PSEO, so Ive had no experience with Calc previously, but that wasnt too much of an issue
Professor Lyubeznik is very clear when stating the definition of a certain topic during a lecture, but he oftentimes skips several steps when he does practice problems in class which can make the lecture confusing. He is VERY fair when it comes to his exams. Everything is from the homework problems assigned in the textbook.
Quizzes every week, these will save your life. Do your homework and you will ace the quizzes. Hard midterms, try to go to review sessions of given. Exam was hard. Would not recommend him if you can't stand lectures.
I do NOT recommend taking calc 1 with him if you have not previously taken the course. It is VERY difficult with no previous experience with calculus. Class is graded only from quizzes and exams.
They usually say the curve in MATH 1271 is quite good, but that is NOT the case in this class. Curve will not help you so get ready to ace your Midterms if you want to get over a B+. Overall, just skip his lectures and do your problems in the book, you'd be better off most of the time. Quiz questions usually resemble exam questions.
The professor is not friendly and his lectures did not help at all. He expected the class to know things that some of us have never seen before. Read the textbook and do the hw problems then you should be okay for the weekly quizzes in discussions. The final is very difficult but there is a big curve in this course.
Very rude and not understanding. He would teach very fast and wouldn't slow down when asked. Was very hard to understand what he was saying. A good amount of students dropped out after the first mid-term. Would not recommend what so ever
This guy is a brutal professor. I don't think I've ever had a worse math teacher. The guy literally does not teach and gets mad if you don't know the answer. Would not expect anything more from the U considering how the math program here is brutal. Honestly head-scratching how this guy was hired in the first place
He is one of the most boring professors I have ever had. If you attend lecture you will get confused. You might as well just read the textbook or watch online videos. He once belittled a girl for asking a question and treated her like an idiot. He wears the same outfit every single day which is weird. Better hope your TA is good or you will fail.
Lectures are worthless. Difficult gruff accent, constant coughing. Goes unnecessarily deep into confusing, irrelevant proofs we never needed to even be aware of for for Calc 1. Very few examples problems during lecture. Will often turn around and ignore, or scoff at a question asked in lecture. Steer clear if you need any teaching at all.
Dude doesn't teach well even if you understand his accent and are already knowledgeable in calculus. I barely got an A and had basically already done Calc 1.
Go to the first lecture, then don't go after that. His lectures are boring and uses confusing examples that don't help. A good TA can help, but you'll need to find other resources if your TA isn't good. Do good on the weekly quizzes, but know that the tests are not like the homework and quiz questions, unlike what it says in the syllabus.
An acquired taste for sure, but he gets an undeserved bad reputation on here. I would definitely not recommend skipping lecture as his examples are helpful. The tests he writes are fair and not unnecessarily difficult. He does assign a lot of HW but as long as you do at least, like, half of it you'll be fine.
Does not teach well. Explains things in a complex way that makes is very hard to understand. Whenever students ask questions, he responds almost as if insulting them for asking. Lecture time is much better spent trying to teach yourself
Avoid if possible, the hardest exam I have ever taken, and made fun of students for speaking up in class
Lectures are nearly useless, and weekly discussions are lead by TA's that have no communication with him. This often results in weekly quizzes on topics/lessons not gone over in lecture. Gets pretty annoying considering they're 30% of your grade. His midterms aren't extremely difficult, but there's no study guide for them and they are not curved.
Worst teacher I've had in my entire life. Goes through problems quickly, and will literally scoff at you and ignore you if you ask a question. Gets really annoyed when students don't perform really highly on the tests as well. Only reason I got through this class was because of Slader and the TA. I was doing 3 hours of HW a night.
Gennady Lyubeznik is easily the hardest professor I have ever had at college. He made fun of students for asking questions in letures and his exams are much more complicated than the homework. Avoid at all costs.
His examples are actually pretty useful, but he isn't great at explaining things. If you understand his accent and sit near the front (his microphone is quiet), the class isn't terrible. Also, the homework isn't graded for some reason but you should still do at least some of it.
The worst professor Ive ever had. He has no respect for his students and makes fun of people when he has the chance. He tells us that if we do the homework we will do fine on the tests but he makes the exams much harder than the homework. He goes on really long tangents about unnecessary proofs. His class was a waste of time, effort, and money.
This class is not as difficult as everyone makes it seem. The exams and quizzes are significantly easier than the homework problems, and the class is curved in the end. Gennady's lectures are easy to understand, and he does many examples. He can come off as a bit rude, but he is a good professor. Take good notes and you will be fine.
Class was determined by a curve at the end of the semester. You won't understand what's going on in lectures unless you read the textbook. Even then, his lectures are convoluted and do not make information from the textbook any easier to understand. I recommend taking class time to watch YT lectures like prof. Leonard, who helped me pass.
I had no previous experience in Calculus (tested into 1271). I think Lyubeznik gets a worse rep than he deserves because he is hyper-intelligent but absolutely does not always make things easier to understand. His saving grace is he does a lot of examples, only problem is the examples he does in lecture will not make sense until your TA explains it
Very difficult professor. He is from a foreign country, so he is a little hard to understand; however, this doesn't detour him from teaching. The issue I really have is that he doesn't explain info helpfully, and makes fun of students who ask questions in lecture. Even with known calculus experience, the way that he teaches makes even me confused.
I took calc in high school, so I had solid knowledge of the subject before 1271. This class would have been impossible without previous experience. Gennady just isn't that great at explaining things and his lectures are full of irrelevant proofs. I will say, quiz and test questions are very fair based on the few examples he does do during lecture.
Easily the hardest professor I have had in all of the college courses I have ever taken. Makes fun of students in front of the entire class if you answer a question wrong or ask what he thinks is a dumb question. You do not know where you sit in the class until the curve is applied at the end of the semester
He can be a bit intimidating as a person, but his lectures are always very clear. He does a really good job at explaining concepts. Professor Lyubeznik writes the tests and the final which are always very clear and not written to trick you. Of all the calc professors here, I would recommend him but calc is always going to be a hard class regardless
He's alright, but he's very passive-aggressive when you ask questions in lecture and can be rude in his replies. Otherwise, his presentation of the material is alright, but he still goes off on tangents and teaches way more than you need to know for the exams. His exams started out easy and got hard as they went on.
He is very helpful, and the examples he does in lectures are so similar to the exam. He prepares us for the exams very well. He can seem pretty mean, but he is a really good professor.
Rudest professor I have ever had in college. Made fun of students in class and everyone bombed the midterms. Never knew where you sat until curve was applied at the end of the semester, I would not recommend Gennady especially to freshman
If you are interested in mathematics, he is a great professor for you. If you want an easy A, avoid him.
He has a hard time talking.
literally avoid at all costs. exams cover things that were never mentioned in class or on assignments so you will feel stupid even if youve studied for hours. He also doesnt put any grades in and doesnt curve the class until after the final so youll think youre failing the whole time and possibly will.
Goes very fast in lecutres, teaches over zoom. Can be rude when answering questions asked in class. Topics covered in class are usually on the midterm, tests aren't that hard. Lots of homework.
Gennady Lyubeznik freaking SUCKS. His calc 1 class was supposed to be in person but had us go into the lecture hall,in person, just to watch him on zoom projected on a screen. He could not see or hear us and we could not see him. The only way I even had a chance of passing his class is because I took calc in high school. His teaching style is awful
There are weekly quizzes which aren't that bad but the midterms are where it gets rough. Without previous knowledge in calc it'll be an extremely difficult class. Avoid if you can!
He sucks
Hehehee funny puppy named snickerdoodle. In other news, he sucks. Seems like a cool dude, but please do your best to take another class. If you had calc in high school , you might be fine, but otherwise please just do yourself a favor and take a different calculus professor.
His lectures were the hardest things Ive ever had to listen to it was almost painful.
He'll make you feel dumb for asking questions, and doesn't actually seem to care about how much students learn. There wasn't a review for the final, the last day of classes he was still teaching new material, knowing that we wouldn't have time to review it (it was still on the final though).
He is a very hard professor to learn from and follow along with.. I learned more from YouTube videos than I did from him. He also makes the quizzes semi-easy and the midterms/final extremely difficult so you never know what to expect.
The only reason i did so well in this class was because I took Calc in high school. He talks slow and is rude when answering questions. My discussion TA was the only helpful resource in the course.
I have never had a math professor who has been more unclear and rude when answering questions. Youre in for a treat when your TA is a better professor than the actual professor. Explanations very unclear and it feels like youre just watching someone solve problems instead of learning the methods yourself. Avoid at all costs if you can.
Awful class. Learned more from Youtube than the lectures and students were made to feel dumb when they asked questions.
Lectures are pointless. He spends a majority of the time doing proofs instead of answering questions or doing examples. Discussion sections are worth going to and participating in if the TA is good.
Terrible professor. Make sure you have a good TA if you have him, or avoid at all costs. Doesn't explain subjects well, tests are purposefully made very hard, and treats students that ask questions very rudely. On top of all that, although the class is marked as in person, Gennady isn't. The class was stuck in a room looking at a zoom screen.
This man didn't even show up to his own lectures. In my opinion, if you're just going to zoom into the lecture hall it needs to be called an online class. Not what I signed up for, and utterly ridiculous. I found his lectures to be adequate but dull, and online lectures by professor Leonard were much better substitutes.
This professor is honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Not only is he rude to the students that are attempting to learn, he verbatim copies from the textbook he's teaching from, therefore you might as well not even show up to lecture. We even had to ARGUE about the correct answer on a homework.
All Gennady does is write definitions, proofs, and theorems. He does not upload any notes to Canvas, so if you miss a lecture you had better hope you can read and digest the textbook. Additionally, about 30% of the examples he gives in class results in him calculating an incorrect answer. Please avoid this teacher at all costs. Also condescending.
This guy gets his low reviews because he is VERY mean towards students, has no sense of humor, and lectures are extremely boring, HOWEVER, I thought that he explained things very well. Tests were much easier than the homeworks (ungraded), and I thought overall this class was pretty easy. I do not like his personality, but I got a good grade.
Avoid if you can. Lectures consist of Gennady paraphrasing the textbook for ~80% of the time with few examples. During the examples, Gennady frequently makes mistakes and relies on the class to correct him. Gennady is passive aggressive, makes fun of students, and boring to listen to. Grades are posted very late. The only graded things are exams.
Lectures are very hard to follow. Good luck trying to understand the conceptual side of the material unless you're a genius. Doesn't post lecture notes online, rude to students who ask questions he doesn't think are worthwhile... not a good experience.
VERY blunt to students so I was intimidated to ask questions. Sometimes he doesn't finish an example at the end of class because we ran out of time (frustrating!) Quizzes were somehow harder than the exams. No homework graded, so you're only graded on hw/exams which sucks. As long as you go to TAs office hours and study regularly, you'll be fine.
Gennady's course disappoints on multiple fronts: unprepared lectures with ambiguous concepts, an unreasonable grading system, and hints of punitive measures for student success. His apparent lack of mastery over the material raises concerns about the overall quality of education under his instruction. Immediate action is warranted to address these.
Awful
Lectures are proof-heavy with few example problems and he's rude/condescending to anyone with questions. We had quizzes every Tuesday including midterm weeks (which were on Thursdays), so TA's can't properly review material. His "reviews" are useless, just him solving hw problems that students have questions on (if he even solves them correctly).
Professor Lyubeznik will read directly from the textbook during lectures, talks down to and belittles his students when they ask questions. He is inaccessible outside of class, as he has never answered a single email. the TAs are incredible, and attending discussions and reading the textbook are the best ways to be successful in this class.
I feel like people are far too harsh on professors and typically just give low ratings to ones who are strict. That being said, this is the worst teacher I have ever had. Pointless lectures where he just read out of the book, made mistakes (He couldn't take a 3x3 determinant), gave wrong formulas, and was very condescending to students. Stay away.
Pretty rude professor, not an amazing teacher. TA's also extremely inconsistent at grading, questions I answered correctly got less points than questions answered incorrectly by a friend in the same class, and this was verified.
Lyubeznik gets defensive when you question his processes. Students are reluctant to ask questions; his responses tend to be curt and impatient. His lectures were clear, but it felt like the bulk of my learning happened during discussions. Make sure you're doing the homework. It's likely that the TA you're assigned will make or break your grade
He is a very good teacher if you listen and don't skip class. All these people who lie are just blatantly lying if you actually attend his class and follow.
Amazing professor really love the way he teaches
He was my favorite teacher I love him so much
Professor Lyubeznik's class is a mixed bag. Lectures can be hit-or-miss, but the TAs are great. The textbook and Unstuck AI were essential for my learning. Stay on top of the homework, and you'll likely do well, despite the professor's quirks.
He's an amazing guy I love his class he that was very good teach
he has very good lectures and it's very very easy. I got an A+ in. his class.
I don't know why so many said Prof. Lyubeznik is mean. Not going to class, not being good at math, and getting bad grades is not the definition of a mean professor, okay? He explained things clearly and tried his best to understand and explain all students' problems. The homework is relevant to what was covered in class and not too difficult.
Although some dislike his style, I found Professor Lyubeznik to be one of the best at UMN. He teaches directly from the book, but his projects and rigorous explanations are excellent. He's blunt but honest. I loved him as a professor, even if others blame him for their poor grades.
AVOID THIS MAN FOR YOUR LIFE. He's rude, doesn't explain things well, and not helpful in the slightest when you ask questions. He refused to curve my grade despite the syllabus stating the course was curved, the university sided with me and opened a claim to have my grade change and he refused. He will deplete your will to live.
Honestly, the class was pretty easy, but he was not very clear on some grading criteria. He gave us a final paper and presentation from a series of topics, but there was no rubric or instructions. He was also really vague when it came to answering questions. He is a pretty light grader though but taking the class itself was just really confusing.
