Very depressing... u actually tend to yawn a few times and try not to actually fall asleep! It's good he plays some films and cartoons... perhaps there might have been loud snores during lectures!
so friggin boring!
one of the most boring teachers i have ever had!
Puts me to sleep.....zzzzzz..zzzzz...
Extermly Boring I have a hard time staying awake
You leave class bored, tired, and less intelligent then when you walked in. It's hard to listen to him for the short 50 min. lecture. If you listen you fall asleep, so you have to choose, head on the desk and look bad or get the notes on blackboard?
Very boring...only time that he was entertaining was at a review session where he made one joke and was more interactive.
hard to pay attention to in lectures...can't skip them because he gives pop quizes that you can't make up if you miss...class is extremly easy however, an easy A but you have to go to class
bring your pillow and have a friend wake you up if he pops out a quiz.
Look it's not his falt this is a 120 student class with no debates. That's why you have a discussion session too but the class is easy so get it if you can and get an A out of it.Get the notes from BB if you fall asleep.
CLOSES HIS EYES WHEN HE TALKS!! WHY!!!!!?!?!?!? THAT MAKES NO SENSE!
lectures are boring, lots of slides. hard to hear b/c he doesn't use a microphone. have to go to every class, but very easy.
I think he is a great guy. So what if he closes his eyes. Why don't you think about talking in front of that many people and see how comfortable will you be. I think he does an excellent job and I have learned a lot!
Nice guy. Yeah the class is a bit dry, but oh well it's an easy A.
Take this class if you want an easy A. He's boring, yes, but you don't have to do any work. Yeah, it does get annoying when he closes his eyes. He should be able to handle a room full of people, afterall, that's his job!
Nice guy, but it is boring.
Easy A
Sooooo boring. I have never seen more people get up in a class and leave.
BORING!!!! Half the time I don't know what he is talking about. Everyone gets up and leaves while he is still talking. Has pop quizzes so make sure you go most of the time. Tests aren't that bad.
Hope you bring something with you to do. Class is boring and people walk in and out all the time. There is only a midterm and a final so it's not a very demanding class and the exams are fairly easy.
so boring! its an easy class, but you will dread it because of the amount of bordem you must suffer through.
THis class is very boring and he doesn't really make it interesting to keep students' attention. It is a very easy A if you study from the review handout and look in your book and if you attend SOME of the lectures.
He is hilarious if you listen to his side comments. Yea boring but I don't think the history of art would be that exciting to teach no matter who you had as a teacher. He will help you out with anything. The review sheet is the test. Extremely knowledgeab
BORING! But easy.
GIve him a break! If only he would talk with his eyes open! Cut clothes, and gives easy study habits! Dont be a slacker and you'll do fine!
Take this class if you need a nap. The lights dim in lecture and I am out. Easy class though.
Do not I repeat do not take this class. It is horribly boring. No drawing whatsoever. Boring lectures and discussions are even worse. I had McChesney for discussion. He didn't even know what was going on in lecture and he's the one that grades your papers!
Even my discussion leader for that class said she wanted to slit her wrist sitting in the lecture!
ALL I CAN SAY IS HE IS THE MOST BORING TEACHER I EVER HAD!! EASY, BUT BORING, I WASN'T EVEN TIRED WHEN I WENT TO CLASS BUT I STILL FELL ASLEEP
This class was EXTREMELY boring! It's easy though...and it gives you time to read Cosmo or play hangman...but tests are easy. Don't go to lecture...attendance is only taken in discussion. He needs to open his eyes when he talks and connect ideas in class.
COMPLETE BORDOM...He's a bad professor just because he doesn't make the subject interesting! The guy needs to liven it up!! You do have to study pretty hard for the tests but as long as you review his study guide and whats in the book you'll be fine. :)
Yeah he is boring. But you will pass it. Its very easy and basic stuff. The book helps, going to class doesnt.
Really boring class. I spent half the time in lecture trying not to fall asleep. The tests aren't bad; just study the material he gives you on the study guide and you'll do fine.
Lectures are more boring than any class you will ever take. Avoid Art 101 if at all possible.
This class sucks so hard it's ridiculous. The only thing I've gotten from this class is the renewed habit of drawing random things in my notebook due to boredom and a deep hatred for art.
This is one of the worst profs and classes ever. You just look at slides over and over, good for a nap though. Also the disussion leaders and burd never talk about anything together very unorganized, the whole class is a joke
AHH!!! Lecture is so boring. You should probably show up but the notes he gives are pretty useless. Switch classes if you can.
sooo boring!!! lecture is pointless! the class is pretty easy except the final was very hard!!
Ok, first off this class is a worthless. Second, Burd can not teach if his life depended on it, open your eyes man! I don't think the discussion teachers and Burd even know each other let alone discuss things. Lecture is good for a nap,go to discussion.
His eyes are closed 95% of the time.
nice guy, very bad prof. boring! he should switch occupations and be a ticket salesman at a museum. can't stand lectures, he could do ANYTHING to liven it up. There is a tupperware party every 2.5 minutes in the US. Drop ASAP
Boring. Look at the same art all of the time. I had no Idea what to expect on the final. Discussion and Lecture did not work with each other. Class needs to be changed.
You only need to attend lectures on quiz days and he always gives the quiz answers the last 15 min of class. Dissc. is a completly diffrent class so when you sign up for this you are signig up for 2 classes. They are both easy but dissc. req. attendence.
this professor is so boring. you will definately fall asleep in lecture, for real. he is so boring that it's not even worth it to come because you learn nothing, only he gives pop quizzes. i did not do well in this class.
What a JOKE! The lectures were completely boring and useless! The final was so ridiculusly hard! Prof never opens his eyes and will not answer your questions, just tells you where to look in his notes, and its not even in there!!! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Like everyone has said, avoid this lecture because it is so extremely boring. The guy tries, but he doesn't have the best speaking abilities. If you can't stand sitting through class, just look up the notes online!
The most exciting part of this class was watching everyone's head fall to their chests as they fell asleep. I started to sit in the front row to hopefully keep from falling asleep; still didn't work. Avoid this class.
he puts himself to sleep
ugh! it was horrible... its pretty sad when the class average for the final is an E... yes an E!!! dont take the class if you know whats good for you. as said, the discussion and the lecture definately do not go hand in hand, and the lecture was pointless
This class was horrible, during our lecture 1/4 of the students came. I see no reason to take this class it is entirely pointless. Switch now if you can. But he is nice and if your discussion teacher grades unfairly go see him he will change your grade.
the guys is the boringest person I have ever met. He talks wiht his eyes closed! hie discusion sec is an absolute joke but if you don't get an A your a retard. Lecture on the other hand is crazy, the Final exam was impossible even with everyone cheating.
SO BORING!!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!!!! ((Not to hard though)
This was the worst class ever. I dont like art and it made it even worse with a boring teacher. The mid term was easy, but the final was pretty hard. Not to hard IF you go to class, but that is pretty hard to do with him.
I had to drag myself to lecture everyday because he is such a horrible speaker. No enthusiasm whatsoever, you see the same slides about ten times, and he reads straight from his notes which come directly from some book! Final exam was real tough too.
REALLY BORING! he reads an essay every day as his lecture, word-for-word, and posts them on blackboard so that you can read along. his lecture is mind numbing and the tests have random things out of the book on them that he doesnt tell you about

although he was very boring and i stopped going to lecture mid way through the semester and still got a B, i feel bad for him because he just seems unhappy. cheer up mr. Burd!
Extremely boring. Reads straight from notes he posts on blackboard. Expects your enthusiam, despite the fact he has none. Exams are fairly hard, and from the book. Difficult to stay awake. AVOID if possible. He'll bore you to tears.
horrible class. the man talks with his eyes closed. take another gen ed like music or theatre
He is a terrible prof. He doesn't have his eyes closed because he reads his lectures word for word. He comes late to class everytime.
HORRIBLE. His public speaking skills leave a lot to be desired and it's a pain to drag yourself to class because you know you'll just fall asleep. Reads notes word for word and his exams are outrageous!
He talks with his eyes closed because he puts himself to sleep when he talks! He has no public speaking skills. You will not want to go to lecture because you will read the same things in the book.
i stopped going to this lecture because the monotone voice, and lack of eye contact, etc, literally put me to sleep. read the lecture notes instead on blackboard..but they can only help so much
I have lost count of how many times i have fallen asleep in his lecture. The stories about the wolves and the little kids, he is very random, and just reads his lecture notes which you can get off of blackboard, this class was terrible!
He was a horrible prof, reads his notes to class instead of actually teaching and the tests were really annoying. What's with this multiple true and false? He really needs to get his act together, I can't believe he has a PhD!!
Same as what everyone else said
I went to lecture TWICE the entire semester. (I still got an A-). Fortunately, my discussion was led by another professor. The tests are kind of hard, but you can make up those points in discussion. He is BORING, BORING, BORING. He makes art seem dull.
Do not take 1st thing in the morning or you WILL NOT GO. Final is unfair. Class average was 86/150. I wanted to wipe my ass on the third page of the final and hand it in, and was going to the next semester but I overslept. You will hate him equally.
the guy reads right from his notes that he posts on black board. as long as you do the study guide he gives you it is an easy A. lectures were boring though. he really needs to work on making the class exciting....it has potential.
easiest class i have ever taken. he reads right from his lecture notes. just do the study guide and you'll be fine. tests are true/false, multiple choice and essay. he goes over all the essays (no surprises). fair grader, but class is kinda boring.
This class was boring, dull, monotonous, and uninteresting. He reads lecture notes word-for-word and keeps his eyes closed. How about a little enthusium Prof. Burd, otherwise your class sizes will continue to decrease thru the sem. AVOID!
I don't know why he keeps closing his eyes but but WAKE UP and look at the FRICKEN class!!
Worst lecture experience of my life. I only went to every lecture because well... I don't know why. He used the same examples for everything. Plus final exam was a LIE. He said we didn't need to know specifics, but then he asked specific details. Ave=F!
This guys lectures are so BORING, that he even fell asleep while giving one!! Not kidding!!
Everyones comments pretty much hit the spot. He made me hate art more than I already do. He is always far behind too. I am sure that he is a nice guy but big lectures not for him. RUN AWAY!
Everytime i have gone into his lecture i have fallen asleep without fail (even when i wasnt tired). There was a reason why i didnt take art in high school and his class reminds me why i didnt.
ive seen more exciting wall paper, there is more art in a toilet brush than all of his lectures, he talkes about three pieces, 1. MONA Lisa, 2. Kaeziemon tea bowl, Aku ama dolls, and is a bland, boring shell of a man
He has very easy to follow along lectures. And he always helps me after class. He may not be the most interesting teacher but I do learn in there, I dont suggest dropping the class, its easy and interesting at the same time
The worst prof ive ever had, he reads exactly from the damn powerpoint. He uses the same pictures in his lectures that are straight from the book!! Talk about lack of interest!
I was a junior in college taking this class for a Gen Ed. I have an art minor. I could not stand this class. He had the WORST lectures I have ever had in my 3 years of college. I stopped going to the lectures about 3 weeks into classes. I felt my life drain from me when I was sitting there.
Well, you can pay 700 dollars to go to his class and be put to sleep for an hour, twice a week... but I still dont think it will be worth it.
I have to say this man is so boring and stupid. I think he was a burnout in high school. You will fall asleep in his class. The good part is that he does give study guides for the exam and the questions are identical to the exam. You will not learn anything from him.
Wow. This class was really a waste of time, but fulfilled it's purpose: gen-ed. I got an A; my advice: don't take notes. I took pages of notes, and didn't look at them once. He gives a study guide before the exam, which is the exam. So just find the answers on that, memorize them, and ace the exam.
If you want to learn something I suggest you take this class with Peters. I was very disappointed in this class. He was never on task and the syllabus is a joke. I don't know why he gave us one since he doesn't follow it. He is very boring and reads his powerpoint. He is extremely BORING!!
I think it must be difficult teaching a course where 99% of the students taking it don't care about the subject matter. Its all powerpoint and I highly suggest taking down ALL notes because they are your only hope to knowing the answers on the midterm and final study guides.
BORING!! boring boring boring professor!! I actually liked the class...but he was sooo, well, BORING!! he's teaching is dull and monotone. exam questions are harder than they seem, and study guides aren't much help. I would not suggest this professor.
Burd was one of the worst prof's of all time. He teaches the class with his eyes closed and expects the class to care when all he is saying is a bunch of rambling junk. Avoid this prof and class at all costs!
The worst professor you'll EVER have. Lectures are boring, he's boring, it's just a boring class!Just do the study guides that he gives and memorize them, go to discussion (it's an easy 25% of your grade),do the journal(another 25%) and you'll be fine. But seriously, there had to be an easier ge-ed!
BORING, BORING, BORING, BORING, BORING.... and did I say BORING?? Study the study guides and you will do just fine. Good luck trying to stay awake in class!!
He talkes soo slow and the class is sooo boring!
I often asked the question,"Is it BURD hunting season?" cuz I really thought this professor needed to retire a long time ago. I went to every lecture and had the priviledge of listening to him droan on and on about his so called passion, like he was trying to teach us how to tie a shoe!!
This is a very easy class. The study guide is exactly like the test, plus he gives you the essay questions ahead of time. How much easier could he make it to pass the exam??
Very nice teacher...take notes on powerpoints, and study the study guides. I really liked this class, I just had to find a reason to find it interesting and then I was fine.
From the lecture, it seems like the test would be cake....nope. Tests are pretty hard, and LONG (loooong essays). If you're actually intersted in art (like me), you'll do fine. I got Bs on the tests and hardly studied, but it's probably because the material interests me. Monotone and repetitive.
This prof is really really bad...dont go to lecture it is a waste of time. Just study the study guides and you will be able to pass his horibble tests- I do not recommend
i went to 4 classes the whole year, the first day of class, and three exams. hes boring as hell the first time i went. buy the book, read the pages you need and you will get a good grade. thats what its all about
Don't not register w/ Burd! Any other professor is easier and far more interesting than him. He goes on and on about the same thing for 4 or 5 lectures. I stopped going after the first month of class. Just go disscussion and you'll be fine if you must have Burd.
This class was ridiculous. Burd has been the worst professor I have had. His lectures were very boring; I almost fell asleep. The tests were really hard, and didn't have anything to do with the material we covered in class. If you have to take this class, DO NOT TAKE BURD! You'll regret it.
Do not take this class. Pick another professor. He didn't seem to know what he was talking about. Very boring lectures.
this is an awful class and waste of time. did not get anything out of it never went to class and still got a decent grade much too sterile. Burd tries much to hard to get points accross and often spends the whole class talking about the same thing.
Prof. Burd wants his students to learn. His lectures are as stimulating as they can be in such a large class number. You can tell that he is passionate about art, which makes a difference. If you don't read the text book, do attend the lectures.
Study guides were insane, class was incredibly boring, and most the time he would seem to start before class was suppose to, so since i was coming from another class, I would miss the slides he would show in the beginning and what was going on.
This class is a total waste of time.I went to a total of 4 lectures, the 3 exam days and the first day of class. Dont buy the book, just print off his lecture outlines and check out the art book at the library for the 30 minutes you will need it for the entire semester. This class is an easy A,with a minute amount of effort a retard could get an A.
Great class-but kind of boring. That's to be expected since it is a history class. Some topics were pretty interesting and the tests were not that hard if u would just study. the paper wasn't even that hard either if u listen to his lectures and participate. Easy A.
He rambles on and on about nothing for 50 minutes! Don't even waste your time going to his class, just make sure you go to the discussion!
Prof Burd is a good person, but he's kind of boring and so is the class in general. Kind of monotone. Might want to drink some coffee or something to stay awake in his class. Check Blackboard often. He posts stuff on there like every 5 minutes.
Not the easiest class, but not the hardest. He posts lectures on BB, which is really helpful. He also isn't very interesting. The only reason to go to class is to be able to get EC on the exams.
ok, so this class seemed interesting to me as a person interested in art. lecture was boring. i learned absolutely nothing. read the textbook and you'll get an A. and go to discussion. that'll give you tons of extra credit and participation points. the class was really boring though.
Nice guy with good intentions...but lecture is really boring and its hard to stay awake.
Boring. Dont take this man if you dont have to. His lectures are the basis for his tests but when you do go (trust me youll skip too)its hard to stay awake. Nice man though, I do believe he likes to hear himself talk with his mic.
His class was hard to stay up in. Some people say you don't have to go to lecture but he bases his tests a lot on his lecture. I thought his tests were hard but discussions brought up my grade. He's nice and had a study session the day before.
This class was horrible - lectures are boring and hard to stay awake in. You learn nothing and the tests are therefore very difficult. The visual analysis paper is not very hard just very time consuming. I would say if you have this class drop in cause in the end it isn't worth going through.
Yes, this is a boring class...yet, Burd means well. He's generally interested in what he's talking about, and assumes everyone else is too. I fell asleep a time or two...didn't go to lecture alot...but in all the class was ok...The prof is a nice guy
He's a very very nice guy and really means well, but his lectures are really boring. I might recommend someone else if possible. He's a very good person with good intentions, it's just that he kind of rambles on and I rarely felt like I got much out of the lectures.
I guess I shouldn't really say much because I skipped almost every lecture. When I did go, I felt like I wasn't getting much out of it. He talks about one thing for way too long, so I lost interest really easily. Just attend discussion for the points and read the book and online study guides and you should do OK. All in all, just boring.
Prof. Burd means well and is a good guy, but he loves to hear himself talk and uses big words to look cool. Fell asleep many times due to him being so boring. He loves the subject, but it's just another boring Gen-Ed class. Go to discussion to get the points.
This is the worst class ever. I took it thinking it was a easy A. Art should have been easy but it wasnt. If you are trying to fill an Gen Ed course take theater it is soo much easier.
Dont take this class ever! Its really boring and very hard! He doesnt explain very good. It will be a lot harder than u think!! very****ty , **** this class

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!
I used to be a good student. This was the FIRST class I EVER fell asleep in... :-( Now I just don't go and I ended up with an A on the exam. Just study the book by yourself...
One of the worst professors i've ever taken. He teaches you nothing in class and his tests are pretty hard. You have to pretty much teach yourself everything. Avoid this man at all costs.
Much too difficult for a required class. The only thing this course is good for is giving you a nice nap twice a week. He is extremely boring and gives impossible exams.
He is a very nice guy but his exams are very hard!!
His lectures are super boring and it doesn't even help with the exams. He's definitely one of those teachers on a power trip because people take art because they think it's easy and he wants to get back at all of them. His exams suck. Don't take him!
A nice guy, but his lectures are so boring! He just reads of the slides, but since he puts them all on blackboard, you never have to go to class. Exams are pretty difficult as well. If you can get another professor, take them instead.
This class was easy. Every exam was curved at least 10%. A lot of people say tests are very hard, but they aren't if u do the study guides. ALmost every question on the tests were taken from the study guides. The final exam was almost all previous questions from other exams. Very easy... i got 100% on every test.
This professor is really easy if you just go to Blackboard and read the notes he posts there. Then you never have to go to class because all he does is read straight off the slides. He doesn't really seem to bright either, not a very good teacher.
He is a very nice guy and will help you if you need it and I think he really does mean well and have good intentions, but his lecture class is a sure cure for insomnia. The class is easy if you keep on top of the material and do the study guides. His exams are pretty much all multiple choice and aren't that hard at all.
i had prof burd for my discussion section of art 101 and after about 2 weeks of class i realized i got screwed. while other discussion sections had very little work, we had assignments every week, 2 art projects and a paper to write. we also HAD to contribute at least twice in class to get full points...
Okay he is boring, but he is SO easy to get good grades out of. I got all my discussion points and the assignments were so easy--c'mon they take less than 10 mins to write and the 1 paper was a cinch to write. TAKE HIM, showing up is mandatory to get the extra credit <at least for my section>. I got an A.
Seriously, the easiest class I have ever taken. I had 5 absenses out of 14 class periods and I still got ALL the points. Just talk alot when you are there. Homework assigned every week but its simple it takes 5 minutes, not even. He is EXTREMELY boring and he goes on and on and on about things but nice guy
Can you say drone? Honestly, this class is supposed to be a "discussion", but he does all the talking. He's a pretty easy grader though. Just make an effort to talk during class and turn in all the assignments and you'll get an A.
VERY EASYY
So Easy!!!
I had him for the discussion section of Art 101. He is really nice, although he talks A LOT. Ask for help, he'll gladly give it to you. He grades SOOOO easily....its wonderful!
I did not like this guy!!
Honestly, I think he's a great professor. He truly cares about his students. There are so many students in his classes that there's no way for him to satisfy ALL of them. He does the best he can under the circumstances. Give the guy a break!
This class is so incredibly boring. He puts you to sleep. You can skip class and pass no problem. His test questions are right from the study guides... So do those and you will pass no problem
Incredibly boring class. All the work can be done outside, just be sure to email about assignments he might throw out during a class you missed. Tests were simple, just questions out of the study guide. Cannot stress enough: Boring.
His tests and exams are very easy. Everything is cumulative, but he gives you the answers to the previous test, and all the questions from previous sections are from the tests...so as long as you study that, you can't fail. Lectures can be boring and a bit tangent-y, but if you need clarification, he's very approachable.
If you like professors who teach with their eyes closed & read directly off the slides, this is the professor for you. If you are a student who actually wants to go to class and learn something, do not have Professor Burd. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice man and knows his art history, but is definitely not cut out to be a teacher. Do not recommend.
He is so boring, and you can barely hear him unless you sit up front. Im glad I only had him for lecture. He makes you do student led discussions so he doesnt have to teach. He knows what he is talking about, but doesnt show much interest in being a teacher. Take someone else
He is so boring, and you can barely hear him unless you sit up front. Im so glad I only had him for discussion. He makes you do student led discussions so he doesnt have to teach. He knows what he's talking about but doesnt show much interest in being a teacher. I dont recommend him.
Exams were easy. He gives you the answers to all the study guides, and the questions off the study guides, are exactly the same on the exam. Don't bother coming to class though, he is quiet, reads directly off the slides, and talks to you with his eyes closed. After attending lecture I wanted to slit my wrists.
I stopped going to class because I kept falling asleep, he has a really quiet monotone voice and usually reads directly off the slides. We watched a couple movies, but overall his lectures are very boring. He gives out study guides to all the exams with every answer on them. He's boring, but it's easy to do well in his class.
description of him in one word: MONOTONE! like having him for a 6-9 isn't rough already. very boring class but he posts EVERYTHING on blackboard and cut n pastes the questions from the study guides on the exams. cumulative exams, but overall easy class if you can handle really boring profs or late classes.
Extremely boring, very hard to pay any attention at all. Especially when he posts everything on blackboard. Tests are fair...but when you can't pay attention when he speaks because it is extremely boring and monotone, you'll need a LOT of study time. Definitely one of my least favorite classes.
Literally had to teach myself everything. The discussion portion of the class is pointless. He WILL put you to sleep with his mono-tone voice. Nothing about the class is interesting. If I were you, SWITCH OUT.
DO NOT TAKE. I'll probably have to retake this class at community college. The tests are ridiculous. He does take questions from study guides but he doesn't give out the correct answers.
He's not horrible, yeah he's a little boring, but what do you expect with art history. It's not hard to get good grades on his assignments if you put a little effort into them. Gives study guides before each test and takes questions directly from there, but doesn't give you correct answers to them. He gives a fair amount of extra credit though!
Professor Burd is kinda boring and hard to hear over everyone during lectures. His class is super easy though. All you have to do is study the questions he puts on Blackboard and go through the lecture powerpoints he uses. The exams are mostly multiple choice and there are always bonus questions. Really easy class though!
Overall, he's pretty boring. A majority of people either fell asleep in class or just didn't come at all. He reads right off the power points that he post on blackboard. Exams are cumulative, but he gives out alot of extra credit.
He's not a horrible teacher he just talks really quietly which doesn't help much when you're in a lecture room. exams aren't hard, he posts study questions from lecture and powerpoint on blackboard and just copies and pastes those questions onto the exam. i stopped going because he reads directly off the slides and i still did good.
The class is easy but he talks so quietly you must sit up front in the lecture halls. You must do the study guides to pass the exams- they are easy if you skim the book and listen to his lectures (that can be hard since he is not engaging).
The class is easy, the exams are based right off of study guides. He's a nice guy but he's unbelievably boring. I stopped going to lecture because it just made me so sleepy.
Yes, Its boring. Yes, its an easy A. Tests are directly from the study guides he gives you. I think all of the people who said the exams were hard were just to lazy to actually study. I tried minimally and I have an A.
He gives study guides for all of the tests and the questions from the guides are exactly the test. So do the study guides. He is kind of monotone and boring. You will get plenty of extra credit on random days if you go to lecture. The points in his class are easy.. its just boring. Only 2 actual art projects.
Easiest class by far. Yes it is a boring class but art history is not the most exciting course to teach either! Tests are literally pulled right from the study guides. Discussion is mandatory since you get pts for attendance. Had about 20 EC pt for this semester so do come to lecture on some days to catch those chances. Easy A!!
Had him for the discussion section, he was not very clear on anything, seemed very distracted. Assigns 3 easy projects that are impossible to fail, you do not need to go to class except on days things are due. You need 15 points for participation so once you talk 15 times you can stop going essentially
HE IS THE BEST PROF I EVER HAD! I DON'T KNOW WHY HE GOT THIS BAD GRADE HERE BUT HE HELPED MY A LOT AND HE UNDERSTOOD HOW ITS HARD FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT TO UNDERSTAND THE CLASS HE WAS THE BEST THE BESSSSSST !!!!
This class was so boring. In high school i took lots of art classes and all were better than this. Lectures last all hour and there is zero class participation. Test are online so that makes getting a good grade easy.
This man should not teach. I'm sure he's smart and all but his teaching style is awful. He's very monotone when he speaks and fades off so you can barely even hear what he's mumbling. He's often late for his classes and keeps you after almost every time. His study guides, although helpful, are a joke in that they rarely make sense. Avoid.
Basically just an awesome teacher who is cool
I had him for art 101 and he's been my favorite professor so far. He was super encouraging and helpful. Encouraged me to do something with art. Exams are not as easy as projects, just make sure you actually study.
Nice guy and his scores on here seem kinda low to me. Willing to help you and talk to you after class. Tests are hard so you should do the study guides before hand, but the projects are an easy A. Overall a decent prof.
I liked him. He was funny in his own way and as long as you did the work you did fine in the class. Others complained about him, but they are the ones who blew off his class and didn't take it seriously. Do the assignments and questions. the exams are right off them, no tricks.
Probably the most awesome prof ive ever had. Super articulate and has all kinds of anecdotes about art and life.
Easiest Professor in the world. If you don't get an A, you should not be in college
I had this class for the discussion section only so I don't know what his lecture sections are like. This was an easy class, he basically gave you an A if you put forth an effort. You don't need to be an amazing artist to pass, he doesn't grade on quality work. I enjoyed his class although many of his lectures were off topic and boring.
Overall a very easy and nice professor. If you do not get an A you are not putting forth any effort. I did not attend very many of the lectures but as long as you study what is on the power points and study guides you will get an A on the exams; All exams are word for word what is on the study guides!!
Only take this class if you are great at memorization. If you aren't don't take it, forget about learning anything focus on memorizing the study guide questions. Avoid this class if you can. The lectures are boring with no class interaction.
If you are interested in the material, you will learn a lot in this class. Professor Burd is rather dry while lecturing, and he is not very engaging. This is his personality, I will not hold that against him. Do the readings, study the studyguides, listen in class. Take responsibility for your own learning and you will get an A.
if you want an "A" for gen ed talk him!!!! hes so easy. puts all slides online for you. all study guides exactly like test. hes nice and will help you with any questions you have.
Lectures are very long and boring. They are not mandatory. Reads straight from the slides you can get online. Tests are online and very difficult so take use of your book and internet if possible.
He might be the worst lecture giver ever. Lectures are useless, discussion is mandatory. He is a bad teacher, class is easy. But final is ridiculous because all exams online except final.
He talks very slow and his voice is incredibly boring.
I had Professor Burd for ART 101, and that class was the most stressful class ever. It's not art history, it turned out to be an actual art class! The professor's final exam did not cover hardly anything we did in class, discussion, or anything we read in the book. he was not clear or helpful on anything, and I encourage you not to take his class.
Really easy class... powerpoints given were very helpful. Burd is a very nice professor who is always willing to give help when needed.
Feel like he is setting up the class to fail.
He is a very nice man and helpful when you ask questions, but his classes are very boring. He sometimes puts his lectures on blackboard collaborate so you can listen to them online. There are a lot of specific questions from the books on the tests so read, but wait until he puts the study guides up and just read what's on them and you'll be good!
Professor Burd is a very easy going guy. He is a little ADD and gets off track sometimes but always gets his point across. He follows the book perfectly and even put narrations of his lectures on line so you can skip class. Don't skip the discussion though, thats' where you create art pieces of your own. GREAT PROF!
He usually seems like he is in his own world the whole time and he basically talks to himself.
Professor Burd is really boring, but the class is really easy as long as you read the material and the power-points, if you do that you don't even need to go to lecture. There are 3 or 4 simple little projects to do in discussion and then one group project. Overall a good, easy class
Professor Burd is an easy professor for this class. His lectures are boring and are all online. Attendance for lecture isn't required, however, discussion attendance is mandatory. There are 4 art projects and 5 exams. I went to lecture seven times during the semester and received an A-. The book is very useful.
The class is not overly interesting but then what GEN ED is? Go to class, take some notes, do the study guides, and you will do good. Attendance in discussion is mandatory and there are a few projects, all a really easy if you put in some effort. Overall it won't be the most interesting class you take but he's a good prof and its an easy class
If I could recomend any Gen Ed class, it would be this one. Very organized and professional with all info and updates on blackboard. Extremely nice guy, had fun with the projects too.
Mr. Burd is a very nice guy but he is VERY knowledgeable and expects a ridiculous amount of knowledge of art from you as well. You MUST go to the classes and do all the reading or you will fail! I am a great student, graduating high school with a 4.0 and even with a lot of studying I got a D in this class as the exams are Extremely Difficult!
This class is an easy gen ed course, you don't have to go to lectures I think I didnt go to lecture the whole semester besides test days. Discussion is mandatory once a week for points, the study guides are exactly like the tests so do them all!! Art projects are easy, he gives you an A for effort.
Snoozer of a class but it wasn't too difficult. Even though he looks like the older guy from Jurassic Park, the lectures were slow and boring. Discussions were easy points though.
Professor Burd is a nice guy but very into his art facts. Lectures are extremely monotone and boring, I hardly went to them considering attendance was not mandatory however discussion attendance is mandatory. Lecture power-points are all online and study guides for each exam. This course is easy as long as you put in the effort.
Prof knows the material, but lectures were extremely dry, monotone and lifeless. Little to know student discussion. Do not take this class if you want an easy gen ed class. Especially over the summer.
I had professor Burd for lecture and discussion. He's very sweet! People make fun of him because he's older and takes his time on his lectures (which are all online w/ study guides!) He wants everyone to succeed. Exams are more difficult if you don't goto lecture or discussion. He clarifies EVERYTHING. There is no excuse to fail his class.
I'd you're an art major take the class. If not the class is incredibly boring. The exams are not worded clearly, and his expectations far surpass the information he gives in his lecturespowerpoints. He mummbles through lectures so sit in the front if you actually want to hear what he's saying. I thought art 101 would be an easy A, but not really.
Prof. Burd is great. His lectures can be long sometimes, but overall he covers the information well. Do the study guides he provides and you'll be okay. Lecture is not mandatory, but for the discussion section, you get points for attendance. Overall, it's a pretty easy General Education class.
He was dull, spoke monotone and graded heavily. Expected you to know more than he did.
tough prof to deal with
Easy easy easy. Do the study guides for quizzes and tests and you will get an A in the class.
most boring lecture ever, you will hate going. Really hard exams with a lot of detail
This class is very easy. Professor Burd may be pretty boring and talks monotone but he covers the material very well. If you know what is on the study guides, you are guaranteed an A on exams because they are very similar. Also, for the actual Art projects he assigns in discussion section, he gives an easy A if you put in effort!
insanely boring but an easy class
Professor Burd is an overall good professor. His lectures are fairly boring and you do not have to go to lectures since he posts everything online. He uploads study guides to all of the tests onto Blackboard, which makes studying for the tests easy. He tends to make you analyze pictures for several questions on the exam which can be tough. Not bad.
Easiest class ever, just super boring lectures. Go to class and study for exams and you'll pass no problem.
Worst class I've taken. Do not take if you think it's an easy gen ed. Tests are hard and confusing.
Lectures are really boring. He posts everything online including study guides for every thing that is on the test. If you do those and study it's an easy class. You'll need the book. Lecture attendance is not mandatory but discussion section is.
No point in going to lecture because he reads right from the powerpoint. Tests are hard, but come from the powerpoints. Going to discussion is an easy grade booster. Most boring person to listen to talk
Most boring prof to listen to, lectures will be painful.
G. Burd's class is pretty easy. You don't need to go to the not very exciting lectures, but occasionally you watch interesting videos, he says funny stuff sometimes, easy class since he posts what is exactly on the test on blackboard, as well as gives around ten bonus questions for EC on the tests.
Lectures are brutal and every week you'll take an online quiz. If you take the quizzes then you should do fine in the class
His lectures might be boring but if you attend you will pass. He offers extra credit a lot and is always willing to explain (sometimes too much). He posts the powerpoints from class online and if you study those it's an easy A. He's nice but just tends to drone on when talking. Would recommend taking for a VERY easy A.
Professor Burd is VERY into art, he could go on about it all day long. His lectures are boring and he often goes TOO in-depth. I skipped the lecture every day and did fine, you just have to show up for the exams and to discussion. He tells you everything that will be on the exam so as long as you study that, you should be able to get As on his exam
Very knowledgeable. Most of the class doesn't come to lecture because almost all the information can be found on blackboard. However, if you go to lecture he gives test questions and extra credit. If you go to lecture, do the readings and do the study guides before tests, you will do just fine! He is very clear as to what to study for tests.
He really knows what he is talking about, and he is a skilled lecturer.
He is a really nice guy. Yeah lecture does get boring, but what lecture isn't. There are a lot of projects but they aren't hard. He assigns chapters to read and then during that week you have an open book quiz on blackboard. There are 4 test which includes the final. Overall, it was an easy class and sometimes interesting.
The subject matter can be boring and long winded, but the professor truly cares about his students and the subject. He's a very nice guy and gives ample amount of extra credit, and all the information needed to pass is basically handed over to you online.
Boring as hell. Discussion is easy you hardly do anything, a few projects here and there and one group project which makes no sense. The lecture everyone only shows up for the 3 exams, which can be kind of difficult, and thats the most people you'll ever see in lecture, on all other days whoever shows up is either playing games or watching netflix.
Prof. Burd speaks with a very monotoned voice and his lectures drag on forever. Be prepared to take notes because his tests are based directly on the slideshow presentations. There aren't many assignments in this class, but he has weekly quizzes on BlackBoard that add up pretty quickly. Apply a little effort and you'll pass.
The lectures are often very boring and dry, however all the info is posted online and as long as you look at the study guides then the tests are an easy A. The information was interesting if you like art and the projects are all super easy.
If you need to satisfy the Art gen ed requirement, take this class with him. He's not bad at all. Yes, his lectures are boring & they make you want to fall asleep but this class is such an easy A really. Just fill out the study guides before exams and look up the pictures that you need to know before exams (which he tells you) and you will get an A
I took this class as a 6-9 and completely regret my decision. I'm doing well in the class but I get depressed every time I have to go to that class. It is 3 hours of straight lecture about the most boring information ever. No one in my class pays attention, they're either on their phones or laptops the entire time. It would be better not as a 6-9.
Professor Burd is not a teacher that I would recommend. He speaks slow and on the same tone, he isn't very active and the class doesn't respond or participate. I am looking for a teacher that is energetic and transmits this energy to the class to make everyone awake and chatty. Burd is the opposite, it's hard to stay awake during his class.
Easiest class I have taken at GV. Lectures are boring, but you can use notes on tests (questions come straight from the study guides). Not a lot of homework.
Lectures are boring mainly due to his monotone, low voice. Maybe 5 of the 30 people in my class paid any attention but attendance was mandatory. I just did other homework most of the time. Couple of projects that aren't too hard and 3 tests. He lets you use 2 sheets of notes on the tests so fill those up and tests will be a breeze. Don't recommend.
super nice guy. very little work required. easy grader. boring lectures but don't really need to pay attention anyway. easy exams as long as you use the study guides. easy A, 10/10 recommend him for ART 101.
DO NOT TAKE! Tests are very confusing and have nothing to do with the lectures. Very hard class for a gen ed and I would not recommend at all. Nobody pays attention in class beacuse his lectures are so boring and have nothing to do with the course content I had to withdraw from the course because I was afraid it would hurt my GPA. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Professor Burd is nice but his lectures are very boring and he assigns a lot of projects as homework assignments. The tests are are easy and you can use a study guide on them which is nice.
His lectures are very boring. Plus you he has a very soft voice so unless you are sitting in the first two rows it will be hard to hear him.
Professor Burd is a nice guy, but his lectures are very boring. I could've skipped the entire semester and still pass but he does mark attendance down for 5 points. Tests are easily, given that 2 page of cheat sheet is allowed front and back. 2 presentations. DO NOT purchase the textbook! did not have to use once throughout the entire semester
Before taking his class, I read through the comments students made previously about his class. Thinking this class won't be too bad considering it is art101. Please do not make the same mistake I made when signing up for his class; it is THAT bad. He is a nice professor, but for a GenEd class it is far too difficult. Avoid at all costs.

Please do not make the same mistake I made when signing up for his class; it is THAT bad. He is a nice professor, but for a GenEd class it is far too difficult. Avoid at all costs.
This was seriously the easiest class I've ever taken. Exams are directly off the study guides and you get to use note pages on them all including the final. He is really boring to listen to but attendance is mandatory for points.
Prof. Burd is a really nice guy and has a deep passion for art. But for the love of God if you're taking ART 101 as a gen ed. do not take this guy. He makes you work for the grade. I would spend about 8 hours making study guides for the exam. I have nothing against art, but I wasted my time. Being a STEM major, I hope you can see where I come from.
I took this class as a 6-9. Definitely boring but super easy. He cancelled the end of the year project and switched the final exam to non-cumulative. He takes attendance at the beginning of class and after that you can skip out. Print the study guides ahead of time and do them while he lectures. Exams are easy, you get 2 pages of notes.
Easiest class ever and definitely the easiest A for ART 101. He is a terribly boring lecturer but you don't need to listen at all. He takes attendance at the beginning of class but then you can just leave class at breaks or do homework in class. You can prepare 4 pages of cheat sheets for each exam using the study guides he gives so they are easy.
His lectures are boring, but he isn't out to get anyone. He posts weekly Blackboard quizzes with material directly out of the textbook (must have) and lectures. Show up and actually do the work, should be an easy A.
Professor Burd means well. Attendance is mandatory and is 5 points each day. His lectures are boring and no one pays attention during them. A lot of people leave class early, but sometimes he give in class assignments that you need to be there to get the points for. He allows you to bring note sheets to the exams and gives extra credit on them.
Professor Burd is very nice but lectures are very long and boring. The exams are not terrible if you study and attend lecture.
Burd is a super nice guy who is passionate about art. For a gen ed, it is easy if you finesse the system. If you need a class to push off to the side, take him. You can have cheat sheets on exams with all info. Make a good one, your're set. Didnt read or learn a single thing, ended the class w/ an A. Can leave class at break if you dont respect him
Wow, this guy is boring. College forces us to take classes that waste our time and money and this is one of them. After the first week I realized I only needed to sign in and leave, never learned a thing. Test would have been stupid hard if not for the THREE cheat sheets
Geoffrey Burd is an alright prof, he is the most boring man I think I've ever met though. The final two units were entirely self-taught because we ran out of time apparently but he did a bad job in planning overall. The exams are hard and the cheat sheets don't help. He also said he'd round up my grade at the end of the sem but he didn't.
The most boring class ever. Exams were difficult even though you could use a cheat sheet. Definitely too hard for a level 100 class.
If you are taking ART 101 and want to pay attention in class instead of sleeping choose literally any other prof but Burd. His lectures are extremely boring and long, there are participation points sometimes that require you to be in class but he will not tell you before hand so you need to go to every boring class unfortunately. Exams are hard!!!!
Very easy course, just give effort on the physical art assignments and do the study guides for the exams. He is, however, one of the most boring people I have ever met. Very nice, but nearly put me to sleep every lecture.
This class was art history which was very boring and this professor didn't make it ant better! He talks very slow and doesn't make it interesting or fun. I took it online and couldn't stand sitting there watching the lecture for 2 hours. The tests were very hard for me but he does offer extra credit questions which really saved me.
The class itself was fine. I didn't have to put much effort into it and I still got an A. His exams can be confusing, but he also offers a bonus exam that gives you points back, so it's doable to get a good exam grade. He talks slow and can be boring at times, but he's a nice guy and you can tell that he cares about art and his students.
I took this class as a credit for my major. Class grade is mainly built on exams, there are a few other assignments but they aren't very many points. The exams are extremely hard, I did not get higher than a 70 on any of them even though they were all open notes. This was my lowest grade BY FAR, it should not be a level 100 class.
This class was not bad at all. The exams are open note and if you do the study guides, you'll do fine. I got A's on my exams. The assignments are not too difficult and easy to get done. Yes, he is a bit of a boring prof but I did good in his class. I would recommend him.
He is a very nice man and you can tell he really does care about art and his students, but his exams are unnecessarily hard for a 100 level class. His exams are online and you can obviously use cheat sheets but they don’t help that much. He words the questions to be very confusing and to really make you think about the history of art.
Lecture is indeed very boring, and attendance is checked, but really you can just use the time to study and you often get extra credit if you stay until the end. Tons of extra credit on exams, so if you actually do the study guide readings it's easy to get an A each time. Projects are easy, as long as you do the work class is not difficult.
