Class was pretty easy, but I had a good group - other groups struggled with the cases. He picks favorites and not-so-favorites, and takes forever to respond to e-mails, but he's okay overall. I didn't have any trouble with the material but some people struggled to get B's so I guess it depends on you. Getting an 'A' isn't impossible.
Alright class. I thought the midterm was pretty easy, but some people managed to get bad grades on it. He has thin skin so challenging him can be pretty funny. The final three group presentations can be tough, so start them right away.
we spent a lot of class time going over assignments for better understanding. the lectures were frequently long. it would have been better to spend more class time preparing for the 3 team sales projects. there a few easy assignments and 3 group projects that have a fair amount of paperwork. overall would take again. would not buy textbooks
It is your typical general business course, lots of general information and lots of definitions. I'd recommend taking it with him. He is pretty energetic which makes the 3 hour lecture go by faster. He also brings snacks which is great. The class consists of two group projects, 5 easy quizzes, and 2 tests.
4 years of college and this is my first review of any professor. Geoff (Jeff; which he requires you call him) if the best professor I have had at DePaul. I am so happy to be finishing off my undergrad, having him as one of my final professors. Former VP of Microsoft sales and makes learning lots of fun. Don't miss out!!!
Geoff is a great professor. His enthusiasm to teach students is pretty cool. Finding professors who actually care about students and what they are interested in is pretty rare.
This professor will reach out to you if he sees you need help. He is available for you all the time, doesn't have super short office hours. He is really engaging and goes a great job keeping everyone interested.
Geoff is one of my favorite professor at Depaul. Fairly new but has great outside experience and give real life examples. Pay attention and participate. His lectures are fun and relative. His tests are reasonable. Read the book and you will do fine. He is always available for help. I would highly recommend him.
Geoff is the greatest professor at DePaul, hands down. He is always there for the students and he just got another degree himself so he knows what it is like to be in the classroom and he caters the class to the students' needs. Easy reading, engaging lectures, straightforward tests, fun group projects, and snacks! Wish I had him for more classes
Geoff is amazing. Lectures are fun and engaging and everything relates to real life, recognizable companies. Tests are just like the study guide and quizzes are easy. He's an amazing professor who really cares about his students and will help you inside of class or out, super nice guy! Take him! I would again if I could!
Geoff is the best professor at DePaul. He really cares about his students and goes above and beyond to figure out what your goals are and how to help you reach them. He is very well connected and his door is always open to his students. I changed my major because of Geoff.
This is not necessarily a ratting for Geoff (he is awesome, best professor you will have!) this comment is for those coming here to see if they take his class, DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK HARD 4 IT! It's a waste of your classmate's time! Many group projects & some of us really want to deliver excellence and get burnt out by slackers!
Geoff is the best professor I've had at DePaul. He'll help you with the cases, resumes, or interview prep any time of day. He's always so happy and passionate about learning. In this class you have to read 3 books and have 4 group presentations. It's a lot of work but you learn so much about selling
Geoff Nyheim stands out among other professors at DePaul, his commitment to students academically and professionally is unsurpassed. Each week a different company is in class to watch presentations and recruit new hires. MKT 383 is the single most valuable course in the Sales Leadership program. You must fully engage in Geoff's process to do well.
Geoff is by far one of the best college professors out there. Not just at DePaul. He cares deeply for his students' success and truly prepares you for real life work experiences. Be prepared to work but know it is applicable and not a waste of your time. Ask for help because he is the most reachable and understanding professor you will ever have.
All I can say is HOLY EXTRA CREDIT. He gives you over 10% of extra credit. You can SO easily get an A in this class. It's also fun, interactive and he makes a night class actually enjoyable!
If you are interested in sales in any way, shape or form take this class. Geoff's got the experience to back it up. He is willing to help his students. He's always evolving the course and takes feedback. Few homework assignments and 2 group projects which are fairly small and then the final group project. No book but have to buy software.
The best professor in the business school. His classes aren't easy but he is incredibly helpful, and a tremendous asset to you as you try get a job or internship. If you are a sales leadership major, take him. Trust me.
One of the best professors that I have ever had. Always available and a great guide.
Best Professor i have ever had. Helped me become more successful in life in so many different ways. This class shows you exactly how work in the real world is when you graduate and its built around everyone getting better and learning new skills. It is a lot of work, but the pay off is unreal. He even taught me how to tie a tie.
When Geoff came to DePaul, the world lost a great salesman and gained a superlative professor. He stands behind you 100 percent and his door is always open. Relative to other upper-level marketing classes, you will have to work for your grade, but you will have a blast doing it. Everything is done in groups. A top 5 class. Take him.
This is the class in which you learn how to present, work in a team, manage deadlines, navigate the hierarchy of an organization, and understand the economics of a deal. Your presentation skills will improve dramatically. Geoff is a gem. Every business student will benefit from taking this class.
Geoff is the best professor in the marketing school. He truly cares about his students, and genuinely wants his students to do well in this class. You will learn about sales technology, and it will be helpful. Take this class, do the work, heed his advice, and you'll be grateful by the end of the class.
Interesting lectures, very responsive to questions and feedback and has a lot of knowledge. There's a ton of reading and he is up front that his midterm and final are difficult. He provides a comprehensive study guide and review sessions before the midterm and final that are very helpful. Class is a big time commitment but great professor.
In the classroom, Geoff led lectures that added value to the learning experience and he engaged the classroom with real-life examples and assignments often encountered in the workplace. Outside the classroom, Geoff cares about his students. He offered his time, guidance, and feedback to help me find a great career opportunity.
He is such an awesome teacher
Geoff is the best. He makes himself much more available than the average professor. You can tell he really enjoys teaching and cares about his students.
Geoff is just such a great guy. He clearly cares about the students, and he is one of the most knowledgeable professors I have ever had. The only thing that could be much better in this class is the assignment schedule. We went over it for over an hour the first day and were still confused by the format. However, other than that I highly recommend.
Geoff is a cool guy. Has a lot of experience in the field and is very knowledgeable. The homework is a piece of cake and he provides A LOT of extra credit. The exams are unusually difficult, but as long as you do well on everything else and do the extra credit, you can do poorly on the exams and still get an A.
Geoff is such an amazing prof! He genuinely cares about your success and will meet with you to help with anything from class work to specific internship offerings. He cares about what he teaches and has tons of life experience. Plus, he's such a nice, fun guy to talk to! One of the best profs I've had.
Geoff is one of the best professors Ive ever had. Super personable, hilarious, intelligent, and really cares about his students. I found this class to be very easy, and Geoff was a big part of that. Wish I could take every class with Geoff. If youre a marketing major like me, taking Geoffs class is a no brainer. Hes the best!
best professor i've taken, light work.
great professor one of the best I have had. He truly cares about your success, hes very passionate about marketing, very experienced in marketing which he brings to the class as real world examples. He gives students lots of resources to find jobs and internships. He is also very funny and nice. Easy class, definitely take it with him.
Caring, loops in stories with lecture, overall the best class to take here. You wont regret and youll remember a prof like him.
The years of experience he has plus his charisma makes this class the best one here. If you get the pleasure, take this class. He genuinely cares and wants to get to know each of his students.
Overall, I really enjoy his class. He is very engaging and genuinely cares about his students. The courses are midterm and final exam heavy which I hate specifically for an MKT class. Your grade is largely affected if you don't do well on those multiple choice exams. Course work itself is pretty light and easy.
5 assignments. One group project. Midterm & final made by him, open note & not too hard. Optional chapter quizzes for EC. LOTS OF EC OFFERED. DO IT AND ITS A GUARANTEED A. TAKE HIM!!!!!
There are 4 assignments, 2 exams, and a group project. The syllabus and learning schedule are very clear with expectations and pretty much guide you through assignments. This makes it easy to achieve a good grade in the course. Take Geoff's class!
Professor Geoff is such an amazing guy, period. He puts in time and effort to everyone that has him (in and outside of class). His lectures are very helpful and group activities are used a lot of times to involve everybody there. Case assignments are easy. Exams are something to be careful on. Otherwise, extra credit is there to help 100%!
I've been at DePaul for 5 semesters so far and Geoff is the best one yet. I could not recommend this course to you enough. If you're looking for a class that you'll enjoy with a smile filled environment, this is the one for you. Kindest and most caring professor so far! Passionate about marketing but won't shove it down your throat.
One of my favorite professors at DePaul. Truly cares about students and the material, and he's very accessible outside of class either by phone, text, or email. About five easy assignments, a tough midterm and a final, but pay attention, study, and you should be fine. Take this professor!
He is the best professor that you can ever find. I am so happy that I took his class. I just wish every professor in DePaul was as caring as him about their students.
Geoff was very caring as other reviews have said. The only problem I had was that the grading criteria for the assignments were not very clear and the midterm/final was near impossible even though it was open book. Midterm-online Final-1/2 online 1/2 in person. He expects a lot from the written part of the final with no notes to help.
Funny, caring & easy. Loves to teach & loves his students. Midterm/final pt1 online, final pt2 in class. HW is sparse & simple. Everything you need is in textbook, get the online version. 1 fun group project. DO THE PRACTICE QUIZZES. All on D2L, if you complete them all it'll give you 60 bonus points cushion, I forgot to do these. Overall, love him
One of the best, hands down! Assignments are easy, but still reinforce the concept; midterm/final were much easier than expected (make sure you look at the study guide and know where to find the info). Meet with him for anything: school, career advice, life, etc. He truly cares! Cannot recommend him enough, so glad I took this class!
Geoff is a very dedicated professor outside of classes to help students to strive for success. Some of his assignments were somewhat unclear instructions at times and I RECOMMEND you to rent the book online. His tests are okay, take advantage of his review sessions and if it's open book, utilize it. Made MKT301 a bit difficult, but manageable.
I loved Geoff. he is so sweet and knowledgable and always willing to help you with no matter what. he really cares about his students. take a class with him you wont regret it
Easily one of the best professors I've had at DePaul so far. I'd recommend taking him 100%.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! Geoff is an amazing teacher who really cares about his students, well-being, and their time in his class. He is my favorite professor at Depaul thus far and made this class extremely enjoy enjoyable. TAKE THE QUIZZES AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!! Can move your grade from a B to an A. Highly recommend!!!
Geoff is my favorite professors at DePaul! He cares a lot about his students and helps them with whatever they need whether that be school, jobs, internships, etc. Do the extra credit. The extra credit will give you a lot of grade cushion. Same with the extra quizzes. Take advantage of both of those extra credit opportunities and you will get an A.
MKT577 with Geoff has been the best class I have taken at DePaul. In this class, he brought real business leaders who are active in the field to teach the class. You are able to hear real-life usage and experiences in every class. Geoff himself is a super caring prefessor that will do everything he can to make sure to succeed. MUST TAKE CLASS
Professor Geoff is the best instructor I have taken at Depaul. This class is a must if you are in sales or interested in getting into sales. He brings guest lectures every week that are within the industry who are extremely insightful. These are great connections to make now as resources for the future.
Geoff is one of the few teachers I have taken at DePaul that genuinely cares about all his students. He is so intelligent about marketing because of his real life experience and genuinely loves teaching. He is so kind and caring even outside of class. He provides so many career workshops and tries to help you for life after college. TAKE HIM!!!!
IF U HAVE THE CHANCE TO TAKE GEOFF TAKE HIM!! He is the only professor at DePaul who genuinely loves teaching and cares about your success. He is always available for career counseling and helping you get internships. I learned so much in this class and there is so much extra credit opportunities!!
Geoff is very caring to all his students. Accessible outside of class and helps students prepare for internships and find career opportunities/plan for the future. He provides clear grading criteria on how to succeed in the course. Lots of extra credit and the assignments are good for learning and not overwhelming. Geoff is a one-of-a-kind prof.
Geoff is one of the finest instructors at DePaul. He is very considerate, caring, and reasonable. He has an abundance of knowledge with his highly reputable background. Geoff has made it known that he is available for all students at any time for class and career advice. Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn with Geoff!
I really enjoyed my time in his class. Professor Nyheim is an asset to DePaul and the knowledge and care he provides for each individual student is unmatched. His class was always a pleasure to be in. Highly encourage taking one of his classes if you get the opportunity.
Geoff Nyheim is a great professor. I thought the reading requirement on a weekly basis was a little bit much. The readings were full of great information, so in the end it was for the best. Geoff also is a great lecturer and has a lot of industry experience. He also cares about his students. He also provided some guest speakers.
Geoff just talks about himself the whole class period. His lectures are hard to follow because all he does is talk, talk and talk. He is unorganized and his due dates are all over the place. If you get a bad group you're screwed because you stay together the quarter. I am not sure why students love him, I dreaded going to his class. He is too much.
I would never take a class with Geoff again, he was all over the place. Most of class all he did was talk about himself. Due dates were confusing, the syllabus and D2L were not much help. Avoid taking a class with him.
Awful, awful, awful ,awful, awful, awful. All he does is talk and then assign case studys where his feedback is based on alum and his own opinion. Due dates are never clear and I didn't learn anything. I hate his voice and his creepy smile. DO NOT take him
Expect to work the hardest you ever had in a course just to receive a below-average grade due to his opinions. Fails to communicate expectations and is a tough critic. Assignments aren't relevant to the course and are busy work. Proceeds to assign 3 case studies for remainder of class just to have inconsistent feedback
Great Professor Gives a ton of extra credit I highly recommend taking him.
This guy had HUGE roles in Amazon and Microsoft so I think his perspective on the business world, teams, culture and many other topics are on the money. He does a TON of work for his students regarding providing resources and being SUPER available outside class. Tests are insane but open notes. I studied a TON for this class and expect to get a B.
He planned the class on the go, said he had all the time in the world to help so why could he not give us case studies to work on sooner. Some feedback was helpful but most of the class was busy work.
Excellent professor, among the best at DePaul. Class material is interesting and connected to real world examples, so you really understand marketing. Very fun class with lots of extra credit opportunities!
Super tough class but Geoff makes it worth it. 2nd time i've taken his class and would again. He is very knowledgeable and kind. I learned so much and began to be comfortable in areas outside my comfort zone. Loved this class and began to love my major because of him. Please if you can take advantage of his help you won't regret it.
Professor Geoff was the best professor I had at Depaul. He has been an exceptional mentor and coach to me. He taught me on the necessary skills for my field. He provided invaluable guidance and support for my career development. Most recently he coached me on interview preparations that was impactful as it led to my success in securing the position
The best professor at DePaul by a mile. A great person to be around and learn from. HIGHLY recommend it to anyone interested in marketing. He has so much experience so take advantage of your time in the class.
He is a fabulous teacher who genuinely cares about his students. He does grade attendance but that was my only complaint.
Geoff had HUGE roles at Amazon and Microsoft - in this class he brings in TONS of guests who are all in the big, big, big leagues. We had a CEO, big HR person from Microsoft, people who were running whole teams (like all of Canada) in Sales etc. If you're going into Tech, Sales (I argue everyone is), or any form of leadership TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Easily the best prof I've ever had at DePaul, in fact his class literally made me change my major I liked it so much. You'll learn a lot and genuinely look forward to going to class. He also hands out cookies and has great music taste which is a nice touch.
Geoff is a great professor I just don't have any passion for marketing and I was kind of hoping for a blow off class. If you are looking for an easy class this is definetly not it, there is a lot of reading and he expects you to put in the work. The midterm was online and the final has two parts: online and in-person written final.
I RECOMMEND A DIF PROF. This class was hard, and the final was even harder. The final was honestly a joke and it was full of questions we never would have known the answer to. I am not a marketing major and just needed this class for credit. It is literally MKT 301... it should have been easy. The only way I passed was the extra credit.
Geoff structured his classes very well and was there for all of his students whenever they needed him. He helped me start my LinkedIn profile and inspired me to make connections as well as network and bond with my classmates. He is extremely positive and makes every one of his students feel welcome. He wants everyone to succeed. Thanks Geoff!!
Geoff is an awesome professor! He cares about his students, and you can tell from day 1 of his class. He uses the book for his quizzes, but his exams are a bit more in depth. He is overall an awesome professor.
The midterm & final were practically impossible. I believe that no amount studying would've been able to prepare me for these exams, this is specifically due to his use of extremely confusing multiple choice questions. Even with a basic understanding of the concepts, you don't really stand a chance. Express caution when deciding to take this course
Geoff is a good teacher. He knows how to give lectures. There are certain things that make the class difficult, but I think its moreso the material than his teaching. Having to take a quiz per chapter is pretty annoying. One midterm and final with a written portion. He is a good teacher but he assigns alot and its easy to get overwhelmed.
Geoff is an amazing professor!!! He is very professional and you will learn a lot from him. He is very supportive of his students' career planning, preparation, and pursuits. Geoff will always find time for you no matter what!! Honestly, he was the best professor I ever had :) Take his classes
Geoff's class is very test-heavy, the final and midterms were nearly unfeasible. Many concepts needed memorization, but very few of them were on the actual test. The layout of the course seemed to be too advanced for an introductory class.
I should have listened to others reviews. This class is so heavy. Quizzes every week but it's not even necessary. He is a nice professor but it should not be that hard. If u just wanna have an easy A or pass the class, this class isn't for you. Up to yall if u don't wanna listen. Everyone has a different perspective.
Too much work for a required introductory marketing class. The final is 25 free response questions with over 100 topics even when dumbed down. There were graphs and pictures needed to be drawn that we were not prepared for. Overall too hard of a class for what it is. Take this class somewhere else and transfer the credit over.
Great professor! He wants you to succeed and do some work along the way to understand the material. While it may be a bit much homework for a marketing class, he has clear grading criteria and is very clear on what to study for midterm and finals. You will succeed as long as you show up and use the book given.
Not only being great at teaching in-class materials, Professor Geoff is also a great career coach. His classes are fun and participation is appreciated. The weekly quizzes help you get up to speed with the course material and it also prepares you in advance for the mid-term and the final exam. He is one of the best I've come across!
Professor Geoff was one of the best professors I've had. He is well respected and easy to reach with questions and help regarding the course or anything beyond that. Everything is clear from the start.
The Prof is extremely talented combining real world experiences with lecture providing a great reference
easy class, he makes the curriculum fun, there are 5 major assignments worth majority of your grade in which he grades lightly and offers so much extra credit. TAKE HIM HE IS SO GOOD, genuinely helps and cares about his students!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geoff is an amazing professor, I really enjoyed taking his class. He makes class fun, and there is minimal homework. You do need to read the textbook, but the class overall is not too difficult, I would definitely recommend taking this class with him.
Geoff is an amazing professor and extremely engaging. He is always willing to help with any possible questions you may have too. He's very understanding about life events as well, which I appreciated. While he sets his expectations high, he makes it easy to want to strive for good grades and participation because he's so positive and inspirational!
Great in the classroom, but outside of class, there is a lot of work. Textbook readings are due before class, which feels restrictive. Other than the amount of notes, assignments are relatively easy and straightforward. Very passionate about the subject, so he often expects us to feel the same, which leads to a heavy workload.
Really good professor and easy class. Consists of 2 quizzes each week which take about 20 minutes to do. There is lots of group work but that is the same for every BUS 101 class. He talks a lot during class so be prepared to sit there for a long time. I would recommend.
Prof Nyheim was absolutely amazing! He has around 80 extra credit points that you can get throughout the quarter which really help. There are a few assignments, you will get a good grade if you put in the effort. He truly cares about his students and wants us all to succeed! He also helps with professional career advice which is great!
everything about him is great except to me his online D2L was such a sensory overload compared to other classes it actually almost unmotivated me. It would give me anxiety just by gong into it. Also has some tedious assignments but nothing difficult. Good lectures and concepts and humor.
He is an amazing person, an interesting lecturer, and very kind about late work or rescheduling. He does not play with AI, but he brings Oreos to class every day. Please take his class; it's very easy, and you won't regret it! I took BUS 101 with him my freshman year, and I'm so glad I did.
Just some weekly quizzes based off the textbook, a group project, some individual assignments, take home online midterm, and an in person final. He's a breath of fresh air because it seems like everyone in the business school is super closed off/quiet in the elevators, but he encourages making connections in class and getting to know your peers.
He is an incredibly kind and caring person. I'm not a marketing major but I really enjoyed his class. The final is a bit challenging but you can easily get an A if you put the effort in.
Textbook is like 60$ and it's an online textbook like be fr and you do need it for the class. Syllabus needs to be updated because it says it's 15$. Final is so hard if you don't have the textbook. Final was a big packet of paper tbh I thought he was doing allat for a mkt class. Good thing he gives hints on what's gonna be on the final during class
This class was an introduction to marketing, it became so unnecessarily complicated with group projects and the final exam. The final exam shocked everyone when every question had 4 parts, making the exam a total of 120 questions. If possible find another professor who will treat the class as an introduction to marketing.
The class was fine during the start, but as it went on it became unnecessarily more complicated. The final itself was very difficult, it's a 15 page packet that had a total of about 120 questions. Lectures were meh as they were quite literally just reading off the slides that he had posted. If you can find another professor go ahead and do so.
