A great teacher. Speech is a hard course, but Elwell makes you feel comfortable and lets you know that he understands everybody's nervousness. He critiques you in a very smooth and professional way. Very organized, tests are easy just b there 4 review.

Awesome! My entire class established such a strong bond because the class was structured so well. Two of my best friends to this day are from my Speech class. He makes giving speeches seem effortless, and is very clear on what he wants in a test/speech. The group projects are a blast! Take him! You'll love it! I promise!

He seems to be in a good mood, funny, helpful, and understanding. just take notes. if you need help with something, he'll help you. if he gives out extra credit, do the assignment. whats mostly on the test is what would be off the board and there will be a study guide for it too. I guarentee you'll do fine. his class is worth it.

First off he is totally NOT HOT! He is balding and wears cowboy boots. But he is an awesome teacher!! He goes over the test before you take is so it is really really easy to get an A if you study the stuff he tells you to. I would def take this prof if I were you!!!!!

He is very easy going and understanding. As long as you do his study guide you will ace his 3 tests. On his info and persuasive speech he is a tough grader, but other than that his group presentation was fun...a game show. Take him and I LOVE his cow boy boots!

Yeah, I took Speech 1100, and he's probably one of the best teacher that could teach speech. He's very laid back, and he reads right off the test to tell you what to study. There is 1 group project, 2 speeches, and 3 tests. The tests aren't that bad. The 2nd speech was a bit complicated, but this class is a lot of fun

What a great teacher! He is very laid back, always smiling, very understanding and very nice. His class was always fun and the projects were also a lot of fun. The exams are extremely easy and gives you the material needed that is used on the exam. A+++ teacher

I decided on this class because people said he was hot, he's not. He's really nice and calm so its easy to give speeches in front of him but make sure you don't do any on gun control cause he's part of the NRA. Besides that he goes over the complete test ahead of time so its easy to get an A if you just show up.

He is a really good professor and has good speaking skills. He keeps ur attention during lectures, and tells you what'll be on the test and gives some of the answers too. He is really nice and calm, and his class has a relaxed environment. He is even lenient, approachable, and helpful, and has the best manners. I would say this class is an easy A.

Geoffrey Elwell would be a great teacher who can help students learn how to communicate with each other.

If you have any sort of hesitations when it comes to public speaking, he is the teacher for you. I have taken plenty of speech courses, but I have never felt so at ease as I did in his class. His tests are from the books, so if you study you will get an A. His speech topics are lenient and he offers flexible presentation dates.Best teacher I took.

Fair grading, accessible, helpful, before this class I didn't think I could get up in front of everyone a give a speech but he made it so that it was comfortable and helped people through the nerves. I feel much more at ease talking in front of people now.

Great teacher, very helpful, 5 speeches, only 3 you have to try on. 5-7 mins length. and 3 tests but he gives out study guides and reviews the day before. No paper. Very relaxed, easygoing class.

Thanks to him, I switched my major from History to Communications. He is understanding, a fair grader, and just an overall awesome guy. You have only a few speeches and they are very short. He simply makes speaking in front of people a breeze.

Made a class that is normally awkward fun and comfortable. Very few speeches required and he basically gives you all the answers to the tests in advance.

if u hate speeches take him! 1 informative 1 persuasive and then simple 2 min BS speech at beginning of semester and a BS group game show.......this guy is phenominal

Geoffrey Elwell is the best speech teacher who i had ever known. He's a so called friendly guy and always smiling. Take his class the most easier teacher ever if you are taking speech. He's the guy you're looking for and you will not regret it. 3 test and 3 speech but pretty easy. fair grading and very laid back. highly recommend to whosoever

Why are you still searching for a Speech teacher? G. Elwell is, by far, the BEST speech teacher! He is kind, gentle, respecful, and crystal clear! He gives you a GREAT studyguide for his 3 tests. There are 4 speeches in all. He gives alot of extra credit opportunity as well. He makes you feel comfortable in his class and is a very calm, casual guy!

SUCH AN EASY TEACHER! Before every test he tells you EXACTLY what you need to study. Got an A+ on every test. Only 3 speeches which he grades pretty fair. He's really funny and uses relevant real-life examples for every lesson he teaches. TAKE ELWELL!

Not great at speeches but still manage to get an A in the class. He is a fair grader on speeches. If you follow his guideline, then you'll be fine. His test is easy as he tells you what is on the test and go through the study guide. Don't really need the book. Nice guy and a good class.

I took his Honors Speech class and it was a breeze. 3 speeches (2 informative, one persuasive) & two group projects. gives you study guides that are extremely helpful. only 3 tests. tells you the short answer questions. take him! great class!

I really recommend taking Prof. Elwell. I was nervous to take this class and give speeches, but I got over my fears quickly. He is a great teacher; very laid back and has some great stories.

His lectures are pretty boring and all the questions on the test are from the book, so showing up isn't really mandatory except for attendance points. Speeches are pretty clear, he tells you everything you need to include and there are only 3 all together. I would definitely recommend taking him!

This is probably the best teacher at COD. He makes you feel very comfortable giving your speech and has some funny stories to tell. He's very good at teaching the material and gives you good examples helping you to not forget the material. If you listen to him you will do good in the class. Only about 3 speechestests. Speech is that awful mandatory class you have to take, but Mr. Elwell makes it easy and fun! He's hilarious and always sharing great stories. For the tests, he gives out a study guide of what to know and if you know it all you'll get 100% because that's all that's on the test. There are lots of speeches of course, but he's so laid back it's not bad

If you want to pass your mandatory speech class then take this guy. He is very chill and relaxed and isn't harsh what so ever. There are tests but he basically give you the answers of what's going to be on there. He even lets you make up your speech if you miss your day to go. If I were you he is a must take!

Easy going guy, the class consists of 3 speeches and 3 tests. I liked his class, but never posted grades online or gave back tests which was annoying. Pretty clear what to do for speeches, on your own as far as the last two tests. He never gave lectures on the material. Study guides were available.

He wants students to pass. He gives a study guide of what will be on the test, gives extra credit on tests, and even went over some test questions during the test. If you make sure to take good notes in class and review before an exam, it is very hard to fail his tests. He's also a nice grader on speeches, just have lots of eye contact.

Super easy class. Tests are nothing to fear because he gives you all the information and there are no suprises. There are a decent amount of speeches (4) but they aren't long or complicated. My only complaint is that he doesn't post grades on blackboard so it's hard to monitor your grade. Overall, it's not difficult to get an A.

Professor Elwell is super friendly and easy to talk to. I never felt uncomfortable or intimidated while giving speeches and he gives immediate verbal feedback. He does not enter anything in Blackboard until the end of the semester, so make sure you stay on top of your grade or talk to him about it. If Speech is a requirement for you, take him.

Awesome professor! I would highly recommend this professor for speech 1100. The tests were super easy and right off the study guide. He graded the speeches fairly for the most part. I was a horrible speaker and very nervous and still got an A in the class because I did good on the tests and did my speeches on time. Take him!

Professor Elwell made my speech class experience comfortable since the atmosphere of the class was laid back and fun. His lectures were easy to listen to and he always had a story to tell. I loved Professor Elwell! He treated all of his students equally and was very laid back. I have learned a lot from his class throughout the semester and have even tackled my stage fright! There is basically no homework or quizzes. Just prepare for the speeches and tests, which are also pretty easy. Would definitely take him again!

Professor Elwell is very laid back and calm. Do your best on speeches and he will give you a good grade! It will be an easy class for you as long as you study for each test, give each speech on time, and participate. He outlined a nice study guide for us for each test. Lots of funny and good examples he gives for concepts.

Prof. Elwell is the best communications prof I've had the pleasure of taking. His lectures are short, engaging, and funny with good stories and nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout. He is an excellent communicator. The speeches are a breeze and he does everything he can to make sure you feel comfortable and give a good speech.

Easy grader. You can only have 2 unexcused absences to get an A. He gives multiple choice/ short answer tests worth as much as speeches. Only issue is he doesn't update blackboard so you're going in blind a lot of the semester. People get really nervous for speeches but he's very understanding.

I love Mr. Elwell! I've always had public speaking anxiety and this class made me forget about it. All of the assignments were really clear and for the tests he really helped out. He hands out a study guide and goes over it. We had a group speech, which sounded like a nightmare but, in reality it was awesome and helped everyone come out their shell

My class got cut short due to COVID but I really enjoyed the time I got to be there. I really enjoyed his lectures since he'd tell us funny stories that relate to the class. He's very lenient and as long as you follow his rubrics you will get an A. He also offers lots of extra credit and he's the teacher to take if you hate public speaking like me.

Professor Elwell gives plenty of extra credit work that is worth it if you didn't do well on any of the speeches. He is very laid back and it is not difficult to be successful in his classes.

While we didn't meet in class, he gave us simple instructions for the few assignments that there were. Would have definitely done worse if it was in-person, but the professor still made the class fun. Class is a walk in the park.

I took his 5 week speech summer course (NET) and it was the easiest speech class I've ever taken. Super easy grader, he allows you to present on anything and even edit your speech to fit the time requirement. 3 speeches 3 tests, he gives you study guides exactly like the test. Only he can see your speech and the outlines are so easy and simple.

Professor E's rating speaks for itself. Grade book is 3 test (100 points each), 3 speeches (100 points each). Test are all online and are open notes. Lecture is usually cut short, as long as you show up and put in effort in speeches you will pass with a decent grade :)

Super nice professor and an easy grader. We did have a textbook that was required but honestly you can get away with not buying it. Tests are open note and really easy, he gives lots of resources for the tests and prep. There isn't any homework that he gives really and for the speeches I would recommend getting them done early for extra credit!
