Good teacher. Very opinionated! He has a lot to say. Trust me..you'll learn a lot about government!!! Expect to study A LOT!Good lecture he's really funny. Quizzes were kinda hard.
Does not lecture to book at all.. very opinionated/ in your face. I had to study 2-3 a night to survive summer semester with him. You will learn a lot though...but his classes are TOUGH.
He talks about who he knows and events but does not make it clear how the events are revalant to class. There were many mistakes in the exams.
Instructor rambles on. Very opinionated. He doesn't use the text book but uses 5 different text books. Exams cover things not in the book or in the lecture. There are many mistakes on his exams that he often throw out entire questions. Beware of this instructor.

World Civ 1. Worst teacher I have ever had. Never lectures about course material, and instead rambles on and on about current events of the day and current politic. Constantly forcing his own opinions on everyone, and tells everyone how experienced he is because he's 45. Tests are full of errors and questions not covered in class or book.
This is not a class for those who don't want to work. This class requires study time, for those who want to be spoon fed don't apply. For those who complain about the discussions, they are relevant it's History, Government, World Civ, why do you think we are where we are civilization wise? You will learn a lot and will find he is very help!

He is the worst teacher you will ever have. He is completely unorganized and his lectures are of no value. All he talks about is slavery, and he is a man unhappy with his life, so he has to make innocent students feel horrible about themselves..DO NOT TAKE HIM
Prof. Mitchell is off the chain! He will make sure you know how to write, even if you do not like writing. not big on excuses. Good teacher!
Not a good teacher at all. The book was a waste of money. Driving to TCC to attend his class was a waste of time. He thinks he is God's gift to mankind. It's very easy to get an A in the class but that is if you can bare his bad attitude and BORING lectures.

First of all, were tired of hearing about his PHD. Every time were in class he has to mention, ok, we get it! He hasn't taught a darn thing about history...he has these stupid powerpoints, which a 1st grader could do. Waste of time and money and energy, I do NOT recommend this PHD professor!
Professor Mitchell is an excellent teacher and mentor. As long as you read the book and do the work that he tells you to do you will have a great time in his class. He is a hard teacher and this class is not for the faint of heart. This is a true college class. But Professor Mitchell is a good teacher.
Dr. Mitchell is by far the worst teacher/professor i have ever had.His lectures hace absoulutly nothing to do with the assigments.His quizes and mid terms are very difficult and his grading is subective.He thinks the world of himself,as if everyone should owe him something.I strongly recommend you pick a diffrent professor.I would rate him a zero.
I think the vast majority of the posters on this site were just surprised to find a university leve professor at a Jr campus. You have to read and be able to think above a 5th grade level to be successful in the class. You MUST apply yourself and take responsibility!

Not a very helpful teacher at all, very eccentric. I read everyday and still could not pass his tests. His test had nothing to do with his lectures. All he had to talk about was how the white man held down the blacks and how if you are a mother you should not be in school you should be with your child, and how the Bush family rigged the elections.

I don't easily find fault w/professors and I'm always content with my intstructors' teaching styles. But this theatrical instructor will WEAR you DOWN. Where does one start? His lectures consisted of him rambling on and on and he NEVER made clear what he expected us to know for exams. Not a horrible person, but a horrible professor.Simply: beware

Mitchell is tough, but sometimes people need that type of love. Those who drop or fail, didn't make the cut, those who tried and raised to the occasion did just fine, and were better people because of it. Don't discount the credibility of his teaching for anything less than superb. You won't regret taking his class of you actually like learning.
One of the best professors I have had. Yes he doesn't make it easy and your not going to be giving a grade just because you think you deserve it. If you put some effort into it you will do fine. If you want to truly learn something take the class, I recommend it for anyone willing to at least try.
He goes on rambling rants. He is very opinionated. If you don't agree with his opinion it's not the right opinion. You have to read the entire book. His projects are easy and fun though and I believe a majority of the grade.

Geoffrey Mitchell is a professor that believes in the abilities of his students. Mitchell is not a professor for those that don't like to work hard because he pushes his students so that he can get as much knowledge as he can. You can tell when he teaches that he believes in his students. His literatures are alot of times hard to follew

Hardest class I have ever taken. . Going to class and reading and understanding multiple perspectives is your best bet to pass. . Lot of writing but if you are even a decent writer then you should be fine. . .You will learn a lot. I recommend it :)

If you really want to learn something, take Dr. Mitchell! However, this class is not for the fainthearted or those who are lazy. The material is presented in an interesting, stimulating, and challenging way! Be prepared to read, write, and develop your critical thinking skills.
He may be a genious but I need a teacher! His lectures are useless. Book was a deposit of 96 bucks in the trash because he doesnt go by it. Its a required core class for some of us not wanting to be " the keepers of time!" How pahec tota a drop from what shoud be an easy learn!!!

His syllabus was incorrect & based off a different textbook. He canceled the last class before our midterm & gave us a useless online review that was ALSO from the wrong textbook and was even dated from last year. He gives terribly low grades & then gives no feedback. He will talk for a full hour yet you learn NOTHING. He wasted my time and money.
One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Wasted nearly $100 on a book that he did not follow. Syllabus was totally wrong for the first half of the semester, until another student complained to the department chair. His lectures are all over the place, and you honestly learn nothing. I ended up dropping the class. Not worth your time or money.
CRAZY!! This guy knows his stuff. I'd definitely suggest taking this guy. Don't let the negative comments detour you! He is a hard teacher but If you pay attention and pull what is retaliative to what you're looking at on tests from his lectures, you'll pass!It's up to YOU to decide what you need and want to retain!

Worst prof. ever. He required proper spelling and grammar but had the worst grammar himself. His online feedback rarely makes sense. He talks more to him self and asks himself questions when responding back to discussion questions. If you request proper grammar, you must use proper grammar, Dr. Mitchell.
Prof. Mitchell is inspiring if you truly listen to what he is trying to say. Attend the lectures, read the book, do the assignments. Typical College work. His classes were great as he nudges you to think at higher levels.

Mitchell is a great professor. Does not require a lot of work but wants interaction in class. Tests mostly come from lecture. Very open minded and will listen if you have a problem. Show up to class do the simple requests and you'll make an A. Very little homework.

Dr. Mitchell is a tough professor, but you learn a lot. Online required a lot of discussion board, in depth discussion board. He graded hard on these. I enjoyed his comments, it made the online class feel more personal. Would take again, he was very interesting.

He's obviously a very knowledgeable man, but the way he lectures is frustrating at times. He teaches in a philosophical manner about government, so a lot of it doesn't have much to do with anything. He does strange, unnecessary things that detract from learning much. He expects you to remember every lecture and asks questions about it on tests.

Mr. Mitchell does not lecture nor does he explain the material. In stead he wants his students to read and research in order to comprehend the course. He gives weekly test of: 5 questions and an essay. you will have 20 minutes to complete. You must read and you must participate in order to pass the class.
Dr. Mitchell, although intelligent, is an absolutely terrible professor. He is completely off topic 100% of the time. He doesn't explain assignments at all and preaches about how "you can't get anywhere in life with bad grammar" which is ironic because he has the worst grammar I have ever seen. It is extremely frustrating to try to follow lectures.

Dr. Mitchell is obviously a smart man but he's not good at teaching his subject at all, in fact he hardly teaches. He rambles on and on but nothing about the actual criteria that you need to know, he relies completely on the book. You have to participate in class for a participation grade.
Love this man! Yes, you are going to read. Yes, you will be tested on what you should have read. But if you read & elaborate when wrighting, you will pass. He is very fair but tough. He gives extra credit & will talk with you if youre having problems in his class. I am taking him again for History II. I cannot wait to get my Professor Mitchell Fix!
Dr. Mitchell is the best professor you will even take for Texas government and/or history. Beware he is not for whiners or complainers. Also, he great about helping you get a job in government, journalism and community advocacy. Thank you for being such a great professor!

Good eclass.
This teacher is the most confusing and disorganized teacher I've ever had. He will grade your assignments based on criteria not outlined in the instructions. He doesn't lecture on the topic that is on his presentation. If a student asks a question, he will reply not with an answer but with a long pseudo-philosophical answers that are not clear.
This professor doesn't know how to teach. Read the book to actually learn something. He rambles over his self-entitled enlightened philosophies, but in reality if you really listen to what he is saying its obvious he is just spouting buzz words and throwing in intelligent sounding words to make it seem like he is actually saying something. AVOID!
He is a very animated guy and is very passionate about his craft. He talks about his family a lot and the people he knows. If you are not someone who likes to talk or ask questions DO NOT TAKE HIM. He likes a lot of participation from the class he is very challenging and self entitled.

DONT TAKE , haven't learned anything this semester lectures do not partain to what we are learning , talks a lot about irrelevant things , doesn't give you time to take notes , miss one question on test and you will fail , test don't even cover what we learn in class , had to drop to save my GPA !

I took an 8 week American history class under Professor Mitchell. He can appears to be somewhat of a grouch but he will help you pass. I will take him in the Spring 2017.

Fantastic professor. He doesn't teach a course, he teaches you to think. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK. ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS. Participation points are NOT handed out just because you show up to class. This is a university style course. Take it seriously and put in effort, and he will take care of you. Taking him again for another course next semester.

I wouldn't recommend this professor if you want to learn the course material with straightforward lectures. When questions were asked, he never answered them. Extra credit/ participation points are crucial if you haven't done well on the tests (can help you pass). He was funny at times, but I had a hard time keeping up since he jumped around a lot.
I took you as a challenge to myself because I saw how people have conflicting beliefs over you. Saying that you are crazy or they did not learn anything. I say only "crazy" people have the ability to change the world. I appreciate having you as my professor. I learned a lot of valuable skills that I will use in the real life.

I understand how people hate taking Professor Mitchell. Although he only focused on the highlights of what you should read (by yourself), he taught me more valuable things that I could use in real life. His lectures are philosophical/inspirational. By far it is more valuable than memorizing government facts that you would forget after a year.

Professor Mitchell was an alright professor. He wasn't very clear most of the time and wanders off subject the entire time. He takes grades for participation but not attendance so ask questions and make him remember you. All of our quizzes were online and short essays. Just try to pay attention and you'll pass.
I did not believe how challenging it was taking Professor Mitchell's class. You do have to read. He is a good teacher. Tough class. Pay attention and you will pass the course. I think he teaches over 600 students a semester, therefore, he is pretty good with names. Be aware.
If you want to go into something where you continuously build on federal government, this class is for you. If you're taking fed gov for the just for the credit, Dr M isn't the best choice; especially if you don't like reading. You must read the entire textbook to get an A! He's super funny, he actually cares about students, & he's willing to help.

Dr. Mitchell loves to teach and it shows. He explains his answers to students' questions in great detail. He expects you to process the information and then tests you by essays where you have the freedom to explain what you have taken from his lectures and your readings and apply it to real life. I would take him for all of my classes if I could!!

Dr. Geoffrey Mitchell has been dismissed from the UTA. NOT AN EDUCATOR! He will take almost all class time to rant instead of lecture. When he does "lecture", its common sense stuff we all already know. He wont answer your questions. Hope you dont have any! And then he will test you over the same questions you had, that he didnt answer in class...
He thinks he is trying to teach you how to think independently, but he is just ranting and not teaching the material. He has said transphobic, sexist, awful things in class. He believes the government is controlling your brain thru wifi signal, and is constantly condescending to his students who are too young to think for themselves in his eyes
He's beyond smart, very "woke" gentleman. He does not give you leactures about the book. You have to read and take notes on your own. The whole class period he just rants about life and gives you a few life lessons NOT lessons on the book. Wouldn't recommend him if you don't have patience.

Mr. Mitchell does not talk about the book or anything in the subject really. I don't know what he's talking about 99% of the time. His lectures are like sermons where he's just talking about what he thinks is right and best for people.

This was my hardest class of the semester. He is a very hard grader, his lectures do not make any sense and gives unclear instructions. If you do take the class and want to succeed make sure you read your book and speak up during lectures. there is 3 essay test including the final and 1 film review. He offers extra credit if you ask.

Took him for Federal Government, he is a nice man, however, he is really unclear on what he expects. The topics on short essays are very broad. He is a very genius man, however, teaching is not something he is good at. Also, he says we need the textbook, but we never used it.
