He is a great guy, awsome prof. But when it comes to the teaching, you have to read aaaalll of the book on your own time and the exam is from all of the reading. Small points he never touches but are assigned in reading will be on the exam. Tediousssss.... and hard work. But stand up guy.
i had him in high school. he talks about how helpful his note taking technique is helpful...what was it? i dont recall him teaching anything but how to stretch. he also looks like freud, which scares me.
he is a great guy, u just have to do most of the work
A good class, but requires lots of time. I like the professor, he explained things very well, with the examples, and a good note taking technique.

very good interesting professor, not an easy A at all you gotta work like crazy, the chapters you have to read are HUGE and the terms never seem to end so cramming the night before would be an impossibility i would suggest studying atleast 3-5 days before, very strict with lateness and absents so do neither and if you must miss a class email him he will respond and be understanding most of the time, in summary study HARD, be on time and youll be fine hes awonderful professor
Very thorough instructor, it's easy to do well in his class if you show up and pay attention. I found that I barely had to study because he did such a good job covering the test material in class. Easily one of the better profs at Farmingdale.
nice guy. work load is pretty intense. chapters are really long so its impossible for someone to study the night before. he goes over some of the reading in class, but not all of it, so reading and doing the work at home is essential.

he is a great teacher if you have a hard time in his class just make sure you dont miss class i faild every test he is hard def cant study the night before. but if you show you care and participate in class he will help you out for sure. overall he is a good teacher.
awesome professor- he'll definitely keep anyone awake... he helped me alot thru out the semester and has inspired me to go into psych for a career
a really funny guy
Very funny and enjoyable. Need to read textbook to do well. Extra credits are easy and are a good idea if you think you are doing bad.
Pretty funny guy and enjoyable class. Reading the chapter in text is a must
Great professor. Reading the textbook is a must, but it isn't too bad.. the classwork easiness makes up for it
Not too bad. Keep up with the book and you should be fine. Don't fall asleep or he'll make you look like an idiot.
Awesome professor. Where as most professors must deviate from the subject in order to be funny, he relates his stories to the topic at hand and they are usually hilarious. Textbook reading is a must, however that's the only work you have to do. He does not give homework, essays, or projects. He also looks suspiciously like Sigmund Freud...
he is very funny and makes the class interesting.
Prof. Salzman is very knowlegeable in psychology. He uses relevant examples in class and gives an outline for his students to follow. He gives 5 exams all multiple choice and takes attendance. He also gives extra credit which may help in the end. Textbook use is high so its best to get the textbook. He loves to talk about his family and his dog.
He is a nice professor. Willing to help you. Offers 4 extra credits throughout the semester which I found VERY helpful. Lot's of reading. Does not give notes. You need to take your own notes. Tests were all multiple choice. Textbook is a must and attendance is required. I thought his class was a bit of a challenge.
Prof. Salzman was a very funny and helpful professor. Doesn't give alot of notes so get the text. Gave a extra credit assignment after every exam. Each extra credit added 2 points onto your final average. I got a total of 8 points added to my grade. Loved talking about his dog skip. Talked about staving his wife until everyone passed his exams.
at first i was not a fan of Salzman at all. he turned me off to the class at the beginning of the semester when we said "if you have a job and take other classes, you probably wont have the time to put into this class to get a decent grade" challenge accepted salman. as long as you take notes from the text, study a lot and show up you'll be fine.
If you have to take a psych class, take it with him. He is probably one of the funniest guys in the world. The tests come from what is in the textbook but in class he provides his own personal examples that really help understand the material. He lets you know right off the bat everything you need to do to earn an A. This guy is AMAZING
awesome guy made class fun and interesting and he was really nice....just pretty hard tests lots of reading and time required if you want a good grade, he does give extra credit which helps alot though
He likes to go on meaningless tangents about nothing and waste class time, then say how there isnt enough time in class to go over work, so he makes you read at home. a. lot. having a class 15 mins after is hard, espicially how he keeps you after, every single day.
One of my favorite teachers I have had throughout my entire life. He makes class fun and if you take the time, read, take good notes and pay attention in class your grade will reflex. He is really funny and is willing to help you with anything you don't understand. definitely recommend him!
He is really into attendance, if your late he'll tourment you infront of the class. there is alot of material covered in this class so studying is a must and really time consuming. hes funny but he will find students that arent paying attention and tear them apart. but if your intrested in Psycology take his class you will learn ALOT of crazy stuff
Such a good guy, he was my favorite teacher. A LOT of reading, but if you read everything the tests are super easy. He explains everything with detail and tells his own stories so it helps you understand better. Easy A.
Told funny stories, which made the class fun and interesting! We didn't have to write papers or do projects. But there was a lot of note taking in class and at home. In order to pass his exams, you MUST read text book and take notes - this was VERY important!! On some tests we were allowed to use our notes. Overall, it was a pretty easy class.
Professor Salzman was the greatest!! He is a funny teacher and really makes the class go by. I hated Psychology in high school but now because of him I enjoy it. He tells funny stories about his life and how they relate to the topics we talk about. You need the textbook to pass the class. Gives extra credit and goes over everything clearly.
He was the best professor I had at Farmingdale, hands down. He's hilarious, and screams at the class, which was the best part.
A very nice, energetic and immensely funny professor. He loves what he is teaching and you can definitely reap that from his teachings. You need to read the textbook for his test otherwise its guaranteed you will fail!! He gives 4 extra credits worth 2 points each and 8 in total added on to your final grade. Very nice and awesome professor.
You must buy the textbook. If you don't read and outline the chapters you WILL NOT pass. A couple of open note exams which are even harder than the regular exams. Very energetic, loves teaching, nice guy
Professor Salzman was the best!! He was such a funny teacher and made the class interesting. He explained everything clearly with no confusions. As long as you pay attention you will get an A in this class. Gave out extra credits for points on your average and open book tests!!! However, textbook was much needed.
He is absolutely crazy. Nice but when students ask for an example he tends to go on rants not related to the question. 9 people dropped his course in my class alone because he wasn't teaching and compleatly relied on the textbook. There was truly no reason to attend class at all. Didn't teach was humorous and had the students engaged.
Salzman is a very entertaining professor. He seems a little crazy at first but after a while everything he does starts to make sense. His course requires you to take your own notes out of the textbook. If you go through the assigned chapters at a steady pace and take good notes, the exams should all be very easy.
He not so much teaches as spends the entire class telling a story. I got an A, but that's because i thoroughly read the textbook and took psych in high school. He's a super nice guy though
Without the textbook you will fail. He stresses textbook use and all of his tests are based off each chapter. He is really nice and gives 4 extra credit assignments all to your average. I was a consistent mid 70's test taker but did every extra credit and had an 8 pt boost. Gave me a B for the class. Class is really interesting but its hard.
If you take his class, you will need the textbook, no question. He's a good professor and he knows his stuff. He makes the class interesting. Don't text or fall asleep in class, he will notice and point you out haha. Overall, no complaints, do the reading and you'll be fine. Would take his class again.
Hes a great guy but you will deff have to do some extra textbook reading to do good. He keeps class interesting but goes off topic.
I liked him as a person because he went over a few things. A bit intimidating at first. Never know if i'll pass the tests.
KEEP UP WITH THE MODULES!!! 'nuff said
This is a professor you want to have. Don't lose your syllabus, read and take notes on the modules, and, most importantly, listen to the study techniques he describes. They work. Five tests, lowest test grade thrown out. Occasional open note exam. He will never deny help if you want to succeed. I expect to finish this class with an A.
Wouldn't recommend. He wants you to be halfway through the reading for the next test (2 weeks in advance) as you are preparing for the current test. He expects so much out of students for a 101 class and its ridiculous. He offers extra credit but is the toughest grader when it comes down to it (Doesn't accept some papers)Overall a terrible semester
Way too much work for a psych 101 class. He expects you to read almost the entire textbook and gives a test about every 3 weeks based on it. In class he usually tells long unrelated stories and doesn't cover all the material. He gets mad if your writing notes and not looking at him and insists that you do everything his way. Too stressful
Worst professor I've ever had, you don't need him at all to pass the class. His lectures are just filled with irrelevant stories so you have to learn everything on your own. If you want to do a ton of reading and come to class twice a week to hear him make noise then he is the right professor for you!
Very hard class but he will help you if you are having difficulty. I started off rough in his class, but I spoke to him, he gave me some pointers on how to study and my grades in his class greatly improved. Very caring professor
Prof Salzman is a great professor and I would absolutely take him again. He very clearly states what is expected of you. The tests are all multiple choice questions and half of them were open note. He gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. The final was optional if you had taken all 5 other exams and are happy with your grade.
Amazing professor who has a lot to off to his students.
This class can be very hard, but you will not regret taking it with this professor. He is brilliant in many ways and also very entertaining. Also you will have to put in a lot of work outside of class, but at the very least you will be enjoying all of the events inside of class.
Regardless of how hard this class was you will not regret it when taking it with this professor. Highly recommend.
He is a caring and intelligent professor. He is tough during class but in private he is genuine. His tests are based off of the txtbook and his notes. The class does have a heavy workload and the tests are a lot. He does give mulitple extra credit chances to improve your grade. His stories are entertaining and he wants everyone to succeed.
Awesome professor. Will take as much time as necessary to help you understand the material
He is a great professor and a really cool guy, He keeps everyone engaged, If all professors were like him, college would be a breeze. Must take for psychology
Would not take him again. Very tough tests. I studied both his notes and the textbook and still would fail. He offers extra help only after class, which I was unable to attend since I have a class right after. He is very dedicated and funny but gives little work to past the class if you are a bad test taker.
The class is very difficult but if you do the readings in the times that he tells you, it makes it easier. The tests aren't cumulative which made them easier. He doesn't teach everything that will be on the tests because you have to do the readings from the textbook. If you stay on top of all your work and really put time in, you should be fine.
Everyone who says he is a tough grader is just lazy. If you read the textbook and attend class you will get an A no problem. HIs lectures are very entertaining and informative; you will learn a lot. If you want an easy A dont take him; if you want to actually learn a lot about psychology he is the ideal professor.
He is a great psychology professor, definitely recommend. However, you need to put in the effort and actually read the textbook and take good notes in order to do well in the class. The test are fairly easy if you just listen in class and do the required readings. He also great at telling stories that connect with what he is teaching.
TERRIBLE
Professor Salzman is a genuine and sweet man. His lectures are engaging and class is something to look forward to. All of his tests are textbook heavy and require taking a lot notes. Dont expect to pass without preparing the textbook modules. He let us take 2/5 exams open note which boosted my grade. He also offered 3 extra credit assignments
From the first day of class he gave us a good idea of how the semester would go. He made it clear that we would need to put in the work to pass. Two tests were open notes and one we were able to bring a reference sheet. He was upfront about the amount of work we would have to do and gave us opportunities for extra credit.
Great professor, lots of energy which makes class more interesting. Makes you want to show up to class and on time.
My favorite professor by far this freshman year. Explains things clearly and makes the entire process a breeze. Clearly cares for his work and students - won't let a student fail his class. Integrates interesting / funny stories from his personal life into his lessons to help students further understand concepts. Best class this year, great dude!
Hes an awesome professor and I love his lectures :)
He is a good professor but if you don't read the book you will fail the test. He also takes his time responding to emails, usually takes 2 or more hours to respond.
He is a tough grader. He really knows about the material. He cares about every student, and if you reach to him, he would actually help you. He is a little bit off with technology, but other than that, his online course was fun. Be prepared to read a lot.
Prof. Salzman is a fantastic teacher. Hilarious in every way, Salzman takes great notes, offers intriguing and comprehensive lectures, and loves to make psychology relatable/more digestible. He only grades 5 tests per "study unit", so make sure to study hard for those. Read the book, come to class, and do well! Reading the book is most important.
Professor Salzman is awesome if you put effort into the class. If you don't do the assignments or study guides you will not pass any of his tests. He appreciates when you come talk to him with any issues, as he cares deeply about his students. He is a hard grader but that is only because he is super passionate about psychology.
Overall just too hard for no reason. 5 tests that are very difficult, if you fail them, you're going to fail the class. I studied for the tests for days and still did poorly. If you fail the test the writes "SMAC" on your test and you have to sit after class and listen to him degrade you. Definitely save the stress and pick a different professor.
Definitely would not recommend taking his class, choose a different professor while you can. His exams are very difficult, nothing we learn in class is on them and you have to read the text book too. Professor Salzman should focus on becoming a better professor with more FAIR exams. if you take this class get ready for your GPA to drop.
This class Is ridiculous. His tests are nearly impossible and if you fail one he sends you a letter to ur house saying you're failing the class. Honestly save your self the stress if you take this class get ready to have ur GPA drop. Also bring some binoculars for the notes. The amount of reading and notes you have to take should be illegal.
Prof Salzman is such a cool guy. You can tell how much he loves his students and teaching. He's approachable & you can go to him for any concerns you have. He makes the class interesting and he is really funny. Read the textbook it is the only homework he gives. If you don't read it you might struggle on the tests. Gave extra credit opportunities.
Great guy, sets the ground rules in the beginning of the semester, gives us 5 tests while others give 3 he also gives plenty of extra credit. The class is note and textbook heavy, so make sure you pay attention and not fall behind with the reading bc it piles up. His lectures make psych more fascinating, gives us lots of examples. He cares for us.
Do not recommend, he is very tough and negative towards students who fail one of his tests.
If you are a bad test taker don't take him!!! I took him for Psych 101 it was so difficult for no reason.
- Professor had very tough test for a 101 class. Test questions did not come from lectures. A lot of reading and very test heavy.
Dr. Salzman was the best professor I have had at Farmingdale. He is so caring and genuinely wants his students to learn and care about psychology. He is so funny and sweet, he won't belittle you for asking questions or to go back to certain notes. He tells you his real-life stories to help memorize info! I would recommend and take him again 100%!
Good teacher, you learn a lot
Overall great professor he cares about his students and gives real life examples so you can understand but just very very hard tests for a psy101 class
Hard for a psy101 class do not take
STAY CLEAR, insane exams come from his phd in psychology not class material. Lives in dinosaur age with a light projector and handwritten notes, completely lost w technology. Degrades class for failing exams holding you back after class. Overall stressful for intro course. The actual prof had good stories but his teaching and exams were impossible.
Loved him as a professor and would take every class he teaches if possible!!
What I will say, is that he is a very tough, yet caring, professor. He wants everybody to do well, and gets frustrated when we do not do that well. He's doing his job, yes, but I do find the workload to be hard and demanding for a Pysch 101 class. YOU NEED TO STUDY. If you think you can just slip by without studying, this isn't the class to take.
Difficult tests, but lectures were clear and concise. Funny and real stories to reinforce lessons. A class you will not pass without studying for sure.
This profesor is waste of time, if not hes one of the worst professors I have every toke, the other classes i have to take in that college thing are simple but when it comes to him, you dont consider it as a class. The fact that he gives out test that are not related to the key terms and summary he tells us to study is very disappointing.
Attend his classes and do the readings. You need his lecture notes in order to pass the course. You need to study to pass the class. Very passionate and definitely cares about students. Wants everyone to pass. Gives extra credit during the lectures if you can answer his questions (based on the reading or past lectures)
This intro psych course is taught by a 75-year-old professor stuck in the 70s. You must attend or you'll fail. He uses PHD-level tests and publicly calls out poor scores. Insane amount of notes so warm up your wrist. A shame he can't teach because the guy is hilarious, good for a laugh each class, but not great for actually learning psychology.
Salzman is a fantastic professor if you prefer an old school pure notes style of teaching. He knows his stuff and always makes sure the class understands the concepts before continuing. Study, and answer in class to get extra credit. Make sure you keep up with the connect assignments too and you will succeed in his class.
