This guy is a COMPLETE ****. He insists we use the "Orion server" (which is a steaming pile of crap). The subject matter is super-easy, however the way he has us go about testing it makes it extremely difficult. This class is a prime example of poorly written & poorly implemented software coupled with a terrible teacher.
i hate this guy and i hate the "orion server", both are piles of sh** and dont work right. i am learning nothing in this class except how ****ing frustrating programs written by inept morons are. this class and this teacher and his****ty orion server make me want to shoot myself in the face. worst class ever.
Amen to all that.... You have to be in class every day no matter what because he may pass out extra credit for a quiz or in general and usually a lot of people would leave after that. So then he would pass out a pop quiz token. You HAVE to be in every class which is what makes it worse.
Dr. Steinberg is a very nice and helpful professor. If you don't understand something, his office hours are directly after class and he is willing to help you through problems or grant extensions on homework. You do have to go to class almost everyday otherwise you will not get above a C in this class
WASTE TIME AND MONEY - KENT STATE I WANT MY MONEY BACK FOR THIS HORRIBLE CLASS. I LEARNED NOTHING EXCEPT FOR THE ECONOMICS OF PAYING $100 FOR A USELESS BOOK THAT CAN'T BE RESOLD -IF A CLASS WAS A SCAM, THIS WOULD BE IT. SORRY I'M TYPING IN ALL CAPS BUT I HOPE SOMEONE SEES THE POST. BY THE WAY, I STILL FEEL THIS WAY EVEN THOUGH I DID RECEIVE AN A
Ok, I don't know what everyone's problem. The class is not that bad...I thought it was very informative and it taught me a lot of terms that I never knew about and it especially helped with excel. He is great at teaching and makes sure everyone fully understands before he moves on. Do the practice quizzes as much as possible and your all set!
Inappropriate behavior. Female students beware.
Honestly his work does not encourage creativeness. CIS majors dont worry if you get a C in the class. You are prolly more intelligent that he is and is afraid to accept that
Let me first state that I HATE HIM SO FREAKING MUCH. But on the bright side, at the end of the semester he gave everyone who has 75% attendence or more a chance to drop any grade. Other than that, his server, ORION, is horrible. It's flawed and sometimes it takes many tries to submit something that's wrong but in reality it's actually correct! :P
His website (Orion/Pamela) is crap, but he's too arrogant to admit it. It will grade your homework incorrectly, and will tell you your answer is wrong even if someone else you know has the exact same thing as correct. E-mailing him is virtually useless as more often than not he repeats what is already posted in the book or online.
if you need an easy a take this class..but if you dont want to deal with an arrogant teacher..then dont take the class...i have proved him wrong at least 5 times during the semester..and the worst part of it all is that he basically worships windows vista.show up to class and you get to drop a grade at the end of the semester.
i had him for computer apparrogant, he's probably really smart and he did write a book. u get homework on someting and doesnt discuss it in class and says read the book. if i could learn what i needed just from reading a book i wouldn't need a teacher. i think it would be a better class if it was in an actual computer lab and not a huge lecture hal
Horrible prof! Worst prof I've ever had at Kent. Does not explain things well and expects you to already know a lot. Not helpful. Take another prof!
I actually tried pretty hard in this class. He makes you do prerequisites before taking any quiz, which may take up to 10 hrs per assignment. The worst part is that the time spent on that doesnt even go towards your grade. I spent the most time on this class than any other and I have to retake it. Take the other teacher for this course! Its a scam!
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!!
Where to start? He's an idiot and very arrogant. Doesn't really seem to know what the hell he's doing most of the time and he keeps prattling on about his beloved ORION server which he claims is guarded by armed guards. No, really. His class is super easy but it's also very tedious and patronizing. Unless you're computer illiterate, just test out.
This class is supposed to be an intro to computer applications, and he teaches it like you're all advanced users. I am an avid computer user and I struggled a bit. He is arrogant and thinks he knows everything. He is mean to students and makes you do assignments for no credit. If you are not good with computers, AVOID HIM!
If I only had 1 hour to live, I would spend it in his class because it feels like an eternity.
I was completely overwhelmed by this class. He gives so much work, and you even need to complete certain assignments before you are even ALLOWED to take a quiz. He is rather egocentric and drags students along on his power trips at students' expense. I withdrew from this class and there is no way I'm taking it with this man again!
This teacher is extremly useless. His website is garbage and it almost never works correctly. I love computers and I know a lot about them, but this class is absurd. Dont bother sending this teacher an email either. He will give a half-assed response that points out the obvious, like he didnt even read it. Stay away from this teacher
I still cannot believe he is still teaching Software Integration. He is one of the worst teachers I ever had. So pompous and full of himself it makes me cringe. He was so bad I actually complained to the head of the MIS department but all they did was tried to protect their own. I guess it was pretty predictable that they did not really care what k
Class is impossibly difficult! Each chapter but two or three is essentially a mini-class, so basically each chapter is hard enough to be a class in its own right. Teaches it about that hard too. Has assignments for ZERO CREDIT before you can do the ones for credit. Arrogant. Calls people out in humiliating fashion; kicks you out of class if loud.
for computer apps. never went to class gave up the minute i started. have to pay people to do my homework... that hard. good luck with this class and expect your GPA to be lowered.
I feel sorry for you if you have to take this class with him because it's terrible. Good luck.
Worst teacher I have ever met. Extremely rude and very arrogant. I dont know how this pompous guy is still teaching. everyone cheats
WORST PROF EVER! avoid this class at all costs, he is extremely rude and doesnt care about his students,he makes everything 20x harder than it has to be. if you email him, his response wont answer your question, he just tells you your dumb and should pay more attention, he is a waste of time, do whatever you have to to avoid his class!!!!!
Class in not easy. However if you put the time and effort into it, you will do fine. Must attend class
Geoffery Steinberg. Egotistical, Rude, Boring, The works. He makes multiple useless websites that he thinks are awesome, (but are in fact primitive) in order to hide your homework. Everything is graded automatically and therefore extremely context sensitive. Have fun failing under the tutelage of this Ahrtard.
Worst Teacher ever, paying for a class that is cancelled constantly! No wonder its so hard because hes never there to teach anything.
Pay lots of attention in class. he will change class to 1 day per week, so make sure you go. His website is a joke. Good Luck.
I sacrificed 10 percent of my grade (4 pop quizzes) off the bat by deciding to skip all classes. As everything is really online based with his website. The class is hard but if you follow the assignments and teach yourself from the book...you can pull off a B maybe even an A. overall...this class BLOWS
This class is really hard unless you attend ALL the classes and have the study guide and the correct textbook.
I had him for computer apps and it's a really tough class, but it's very useful for the future. You basically have to teach yourself because he won't respond anything helpful if you email him. You don't have any in class tests but the online tests are extremely difficult. you only have class once a week, so you need to go to every single class.
I had Dr. Steinberg for Computer Applications and at first I heard that he was a terrible teacher. I stayed open minded throughout the semester and attended EVERY class, went to the tutor EVERY week, and did the ALL the assignments as well as asked him for help. I had a 94 in the class, and when I took the final, I received a C in the class.
I feel as if he doesn't care about his students at all. I believe that he likes to just make students lives miserable by making his class so difficult. Only miserable people make other people's lives miserable, and because I met Geoffrey Steinberg, I sadly got the experience of my GPA being ruined. Thanks a lot.
I personally did not like him at all. He does not care about you as a student and it is a complete waste of a time class. I had a high B in the class and after the final I almost got a C. The only good thing about this class is that you have to go one day a week. The other bad thing is he makes you buy a book that he wrote and you cant resell it.
He is the worst teacher I have ever taken and refuses to believe he is anything less than perfection. He is teaching a programming class and using the chalkboard even though we asked him if he could do the programs on a computer over the projector and he refused. He complains about us asking him for help but he only comes to class once a week.
He is the worst professor I've ever had. He assumes everyone knows everything that he knows and spends no time allowing you to catch up and figure out what you don't know. If you don't have to take intro to computer apps....DON'T!
Course material was super easy, he seems to teach it pretty well. All assignments are online, but BongoPower is not your friend. It's primitive and checks answers by comparing text (single typo means WRONG), and files that you upload to it. If they don't match up the exact way they look in the book, it will deduct points. You are given 3 attempts.
He was not useful. "Question of the days", there would be a certain start date (actual example) 5-4-12, which was at the end of the semester and they would randomly bump up on randoms days with no warning. Overall not a great class to take to actually learn something
Class was super boring and he doesnt use the schools vista/blackboard. The website he does use overloads sometimes and can be slow or interrupt a test or homework.
Was very rude to students. Class is only held twice a week and after 3 weeks, he only met once a week which would normally be cool but the class is difficult and he doesn't clarify. Builds his own website and bases everything off of that, not using Vista or Ksu website at all. Awful professor.
His notes aren't helpful when you are working on a quiz. He is very arrogant. A lot of times he does not answer your questions in class. He lets you out of class at least 2 minutes late every time. The class is a lot if work but there is lots of extra credit so you can get a decent grade as long as you put in some effort.
Go into his courses with the expectation that you're essentially on your own and you'll do fine. There's a lot of growing up people are forced to do when taking his classes, and that's not a bad thing. It weeds out those who aren't fit to be here.
I mean most IT/MIS people are unclear & not particularly the nicest people in the world. I think he falls under that category. But, I do believe he wants his students to succeed, but doesn't show it. I think the coursework overall in this class is essential if you want to succeed in careers such as MIS & business. I learned a lot from this class.
I had him for computer apps. He shows no respect for students & is not approachable. He uses a text book that his filled with typos. His class is very straight forward but he makes it stressful.
Very tough class if you don't giver 100% effort. Very good teacher though. You will slowly start to dislike him but at the end of the course you will have a ton of respect for him.
It is very important that you attend his class. He explains everything, but he doesn't put slide shows he uses on blackboard. Doesn't use blackboard at all. The site he makes you use is pretty awful and the text book is filled with typos but there are many extra credit opportunities, and you get three attempts on homework, so you should do fine.
Where to start with good ole Geoffrey. Well Geoffreys class was quite difficult, during class he explained the material well. Using the book was also quite helpful for me. The quizs and assignments were overly complicated for no reason.Geoffrey is also vague to students, and doesnt respond to emails that arent up to his Jewish code.Hes rude
Makes easy classes unnecessarily hard for no reason other than ego boosting.
One if the worst professors I've ever had, his textbook is full of typos and confusing. He wastes so much time of the one class you do have by waiting for it to be utter silence. He also is rude in his emails, like it's an inconvenience that you don't understand his horrible website. Also if the answer is right, but not done his way, it's wrong
I took Steinberg's class and dropped it, I didn't really like him. Took the same class but with his assistant Geoffrey Hill and he was a lot cooler and way more helpful. Finished the class with a 100% so take Hill if you can
This class is NO JOKE. Attendance is a MUST. Best advice I can give is TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS. Do not get caught on your phone in class because he will make an example out of you. Time management is key. Write down more than what he puts on his slides. He is a very smart but not personable.
Dr. Steinberg is not easy or useful in any way, shape, or form. He outsources office hours to his Senior C.I.S. students. The class meets 17 times a semester and attendance is a must. He is actually quite knowledgeable. The book is ridden with typos but you gain 10 percent of your grade back if you do the extra credit assignments in it.
Enigmatic professor. Many students prefer to be told what to do then reproduce it at a later date. This class is presented and administered in such a way to reflect the real world... Put in the work, use any available resources and you do fine. If not you don't. This is not a paint by number class. Reasoning and deduction help.
Very rude in emails. Extremely vague in instructions on assignments. E-book is plagued with typos. Teaches incorrect formatting on JavaScript. Did not react well when corrected. Tends to avoid answering questions.
Very confusing and unclear assignments, very egotistical, very rude with emails and overall a very poor professor. He makes things unnecessarily difficult that should not be difficult.
Worst teacher I've ever had. I took his computer applications class and hated him. He wrote the $84 book that is only available in e-book form and it is plagued with typos and confusion. He does not help in any way when you contact him, he is very rude in emails and the homework and quizzes have errors that burden your grade. AVOID HIM 982%!!!!!!!
Easily the worst professor I have ever had in college. He doesn't help when you as for it and makes you buy an expensive book that he writes himself and only offers and ebook. The book is filled with typos and errors and useless when it comes to homework. The homework/quizzes are really hard. Take ANY professor but him, you're better off.
The course it not easy will they provide a great tutoring and if you follow what he said in the class you should be fine. He GIVES ABOUT 10% EXTRA CREDIT which is AWESOME!! Also, his own system is terrible but feel free to email him and he will find the best solution regarding issues. I really recommend taking Com App course with him =)
Steinberg gets a bad rap. I can understand why, but he's completely different in a smaller setting. Take his software integration class, and you'll see. Every time I had a problem with Bongo, he always told me to send him an E-mail and he'd correct it. He's actually a really good guy.
This class is very difficult and will make you want to rip your hair out. If you take advantage of the tutors and DO NOT slack in this class you should be fine. Do not pass up the 10% extra credit offered. It's so easy.
Going to class is a huge waste of time. His class isn't a 400 person "lecture" its a "discussion". So he has discussions with his students all period. The only reason I did well in the class was because of the tutors. They basically taught me everything I learned.
This guy is very rude. Don't expect a lot of help or answers when you ask questions.
I loved Dr. Steinberg. I get it, he's hard, but if you take the time and stop by during office hours, he will do everything in his power to help you. He has a hands off approach which really set me up for my internship which was all about me figuring something out on my own. He brought a lot of real life experience to the class and I really enjoyed
There is no denying that this class is tough. I graduated this past Spring, and I wanted to wait to rate this class. This is not a class where you will be lectured at, it is real life. Though this was a challenging and time consuming class, it taught me more than any course I took throughout college.
Round 2 with Dr. Steinberg was actually better than my first experience with him. Remember this is a "self discovery class". This translates to he doesn't teachlectureoffer additional help outside the e-book minus his emails. He is rude and makes grammatical errors like it is his job. I'd say avoid him, but odds are you probably cannot.
Rude in emails. Not clear in explaining assignments. His answer is to go to tutoring. Not willing to help students. Puts others down for the sake of boosting his own ego.
Take all necessary CIS courses at Kent State branches. This guy writes his own textbooks and charges students way too much for them, and then holds a monopoly on the Kent State Main campus. For being in the College of Business, they should see this guy is in charge of a monopoly on Computer Apps and Software Integration courses.
I think he tries to interact too much with the class then necessary. You do not need to attend class but it is helpful if you do because you can receive some bonus. I think that he tries for everyone to get good grades but no one wants to put in the effort. The majority of his class is online and uses his Bongo site. Use bonus opportunities
Never went to class, as long as you do all the work you should be fine. If you are not good with excel you may need help.
Class is about computer programming not basic computer skills, he built his own website and doesn't use blackboard (the university approved site for all coursework), and wrote the textbook. Likes to skip through information and test you on it anyways. By far one of the worst professors I've had.
Doesn't take attendance, all the work is on the Bongo site. When I did attend he could be somewhat condescending. A LOT of unneeded emails. Bongo can be frustrating, and time consuming. Some tests cannot be taken without passing pre-requisites; I missed over 10% of my grade because of this. I passed bc extra credit. Would not recommend.
As long as you do all your work you'll be fine. Gives 10 extra credit points so you can get a B and end up with an A. Just attend class and give a little effort and it is not that bad at all. I have a 105 with 2 weeks left in the class.
I had him for computer applications and it was by far one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. His lectures are boring, but if you go to class every day, do all the assigned homework (for which you have multiple attempts and weeks to do) and complete all the bonus, you'll pass with an A- AT LEAST.
Be prepared to really know Excel. Dr. Steinberg does not take attendance for a grade, but you take a quiz at the end of every lecture, and if you don't go, you'll be lost on the homework which can be confusing if you don't read carefully. He offers a lot of extra credit through the use of his online book, so definitely take advantage of that.
In-class quizzes everyday. Lots of extra credit. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
Steinberg is a pretty boring and smartass dude. No one pays attention in lecture because he is so monotone, so everyone basically taught themselves everything. The class is not that challenging, if I came across a problem I found the answer in the textbook, which you should buy because the extra credit is in there.
really condescending and rude in emails. doesnt want to help students
each week sends emails showing class grade statistics, with half the class failing. obviously there's something wrong. very rude in emails. not available during office hours. gets angry if students leave class early. I was 2 points away from an A, but earned a B, because 2 assignments you had to save to your root folder, which I couldnt save to.
Don't know how people find the class hard. All you literally do is paste functions into excel majority of the semester. He pretty much gives 15% extra credit of entire course grade and he is an entertaining professor. I skipped almost every class and still got a 100% overall
CIS is basically his department, as apparently he can do whatever he feels like. His "textbook" is something you will need to buy and is full of typos and functionality errors. Stopped going to lectures half way through, the in class "quiz" hits were worth it to me. Can teach yourself just about everything in this class via google
Steinburg has very boring lectures but it is helpful to be there for the in-class quizzes. The book can teach yourself but its smart to have a friend to help on the homeworkquizzes. He offers tons of extra credit and if your scores on the in-class quizzes are high enough, you can skip the final. Also, you can omit two of your lowest homeworks.
You have to register on his website, a very crappy website that crashes for in-class quizzes. You also have to buy his book, which doesn't work very well. About halfway through the semester, he started taking attendance points, but backdated them all to the beginning. Can still get an A or B without attending, but he is known as a dbag. Avoid.
Long lectures. Must go to class to get credit for being there. Work with someone on the homework and you can easily get an A. Do the extra credit because it raises your grade by 10%.
Although the class is easy, it used to be a lot easier. Many people that have taken it in the past have had the ability to not ever show up for class. If you read the book you should be able to do fine without showing up but instead he makes you show up. Attendance is about 20% of your grade.
Worst professor Ive ever had. Very unhelpful. Gets snarky in emails, no matter how polite you are to him, he is incapable of exhibiting social graces whatsoever. One time we had a speaker, afterwards, he reiterated what the speaker said, one student raised hand and said "are you going to go over the hw" and he had a conniption fit and degraded him.
Extra credit will save your grade, seriously. My grade is about 15% more than what it should be because of EC. His lectures are long and he usually gives a quiz at the end of class. He repeats important information a lot so you really get it. I know so much more about Excel and the like because of this class. Definitely recommend him.
Pretty rude and unhelpful. A lot of homework and some extra credit. He created the website which sucks and takes forever. In class quiz every time.
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It helps a ton. Some of the in-class quizzes have questions that are not about the course, but are instead random math word problems. He only gives you about 15 seconds for each question, so it can be tough sometimes. If you pay attention to his lectures and do the EC questions from the book, you can get a good grade.
I have been studying at KSU for 5 years now and this is by far the WORST professor I have ever had. His website/textbook is practically useless and he is so disrespectful to students and anyone else who enters "HIS" class. Do anything you can to avoid this class, it is nothing like the course description. He is a moron and the internet teaches more
Lots of homework, spent hours in pre-recs that were not even counted towards my grades, professor is rude. If if you procrastinate, do not like computers or do not want to deal with unnecessary work, AVOID THIS PROF!!!! You're welcome
Gives quizzes at the end of every class, with about 20 seconds per question. When his site crashes because too many people are online, he blames the students and not himself or the server. Belittles students and throws fits when not enough students participate in class. Doesn't care if every person fails. Bottom line? Avoid at all costs!
Steinberg is a pretty good professor. Took him for Computer Apps and Web Programming. He makes it easy on you to get a good grade in both classes by giving you multiple tries to turn in assignments. His instructions sometimes leave a bit open for interpretation, but email him and he is happy to help.
Possibly the worst teacher at kent! This class has 450+ students and Steinberg doesnt teach anything. He sells his books for 100 bucks a pop and the book has a lot of mistakes in it and its not updated at all. If I could i would never take this class.
He is okay, very weird guy. His in class quizzes are stupid but luckily they don't account for much of the grade. The class is an easy A.
This guy is an absolute d-bag. Yeah the class is an easy A, but that's Bc the book teaches you more than he does. When he lectures he only makes it more confusing. If he gives you a slip for anything take it to tutoring and give it to him directly, Bc if you don't his so called "wonderful" tutors won't put them in. Dont take it unless you have to.
he teaching is excellent and will help a lot . his class are easily understandable.
One word: Terrible
I had a huge lecture class with Dr. Steinburg and although I never spent any personal time, I give him a lot of credit for putting up with so many disrespectful students. As long as you go to class, don't interrupt during the lecture, and go to the tutor center often, this class isn't extremely difficult and you actually learn a lot.
Semi-easy course, but Steinberg is a nightmare. He does not help in any way. Started giving in-class quizzes about the lecture BEFORE the lecture in order to 'teach us a lesson'. You have 15 seconds to read and answer each question, so good luck. Do the extra credit; it's worth 8%+ points so it will definitely save your grade!
While the course itself was extremely easy, and he explains it in a very clear-cut way, I was disappointed in the amount of unprofessionalism and disrespect coming from this professor. He knows the material extremely well, but will get upset at you if you aren't enthusiastic about his class. Because of that he purposely tried to fail us on a quiz.
Do not cheat you will get caught at the end of the semester, and be dropped by a letter grade. Do all of the extra credit. Go to tutoring. He gives in-class quizzes every class on what was learned in class that day. His homework's are long and hard. SQL and excel are difficult to get the hang of. Try to work in groups. Everyone's quiz is different
Prof Steinberg was not helpful at all. I went to the majority of his classes and did all extra credit assignments. After the final I received a grade of 89.9% and I asked him to round it up if he could. He gave me a B for the semester and did not round it up even though I worked very hard in his class. One of the worst professors I've had.
His class is like a ted talks event. He really knows what he's talking about. He throws A TON of information at you and it can be confusing, so try to have a study pal in his class. I wish the material was less complicated to understand; but overall a great professor so far!!
Too much homework. Not enough time. Don't understand? You'll be stuck in tutoring every day.
I had Dr. Steinberg almost 15 years ago. It's funny to see how many ratings match the experience I had. Do not miss his classes at all! Does he still drive around campus in a Volkswagen Beetle?
Don't what everyone is complaining about, SUPER GREAT GUY. I'm not tech savy but his class was very easy and he's a very entertaining guy. He gives so much extra credit out that if you are failing, you must be trying to fail! Super smart guy, take him! Easy A as well
Dr. Steinberg is a phenomenal professor. Clearly an expert in his field. He is strict but maintains a large class size. Tutoring available most days at convenient times and allows for additional homework attempts and will discuss any issues you are having. Respect the Professor, the Professor will respect you.
His homework assignments are too difficult for the class coursework itself and I know several people who have failed this class. His extra credit opportunities are insignificant and won't help you overall grade if you're struggling even a little.
I took him for Computer Applications and have not learned a single thing from him the entire semester. Everything I have learned has been self-taught. It's clear he wants to see students do poorly in this class. Doesn't teach and gives daily timed quizzes(30 seconds a question.) The only good thing about this class is the amount of extra credit.
He has bad reviews on here but he isn't that bad as long as you go to class and actually pay attention. There's extra credit and that can raise your grade like 10%. I'm actually taking another class with him this semester which is online and not bad so far.
Best professor I have ever had. Period.
Taking him again this semester but online for web programming. Figured online would be OK w/ him. WRONG! Makes assignments far more complicated than they need to be. Instructions are riddled with grammatical errors and makes use of online book he wrote. Also restricted access to his site to offline users! Ask for help? He answers with a riddle!!!!
AWFUL PROFESSOR! I DON'T SEE WHY UNIVERSITY ALLOWS HIM TO STILL TEACH! His online book and instruction for assignments are horrible and full of typos. Very confusing. Won't answer questions and instead confuses students more. Offers no assistance whatsoever. There's more than 1 right answer in code yet his Bongo site only accepts 1 answer -- HIS!
This class is a lot of work but it is manageable. I really did not mind it that much. Dr. Steinberg can be really rude at times but he really knows what he is talking about. Try to avoid taking his 7:45 because it sucks. He gives a ton of pop quizzes so don't skip! He does not take attendance but you will lose all the quiz points if you don't go.
Hands down best professor I've ever had. If you're lazy, don't take him. He actually makes you do work, crazy, I know. Doesn't hand out answers, so be prepared to learn the material. Passionate about computers, data, systems and the like. Truly a brilliant man. Bad ratings come from those who simply get mad because they don't want to work. A+
Inspired me to think more about programming. Easy assignments, sometimes directions have mistakes, but it forces you to think. Everyone complains because they don't want to think. Very under-appreciated. Best professor in the College of Business, and maybe the University. If you are driven, take him. Dr. S. is one of the smartest people I know.
Tough grader. Homework are a pain, but it's really useful stuff, so by the time you're done with the class, you'll have actually learned something valuable.
Prof. Steinbergs class is pretty tough. Definitely take advantage of tutoring every chance you get. Most homework assignments take a very long time so make sure you start them as soon as theyre available. He is a very nice guy, but you for sure have to try hard.
I took him for computer applications and his class is not too bad. As long as you go to class and pay attention, he will show you exactly what to do on the homeworks. The homework sometimes takes a little long to do but its not too difficult if you go to class. He gives extra credit in every unit. Overall he is a pretty good professor
so easy, just do your work. ton of extra credit opportunities.
Was not a fan. Hate BONGO. It's confusing, dumb and doesn't work anywhere but on campus (you can download a VPN but I shouldn't have to do that to do my homework). His homework is lengthy and I'll get the right answer, but still fail because it's not EXACTLY how he wants it. Doesn't put any notes online, which is dumb.
Last semester I had to drop the class, because I was bad at paying attention to assignments that are due, and missed two papers due, and a quiz. I retook it this semester... and LOVED it! I even had to take it at 7:45 am, but I can say I've honestly felt like I learned valuable info. in this class. GO TO TUTORING! They are the best.
Steinberg gets a bad wrap because he's old school. He makes you earn yr grade. His classes aren't an easy if you don't work. Bongo awful. Yes, he did frustrate me at times. Not sure I'd take him again - I already climbed that mountain but like a mountain climber I feel I climbed Everest! I can do anything now & feel accomplished!
This class was difficult to get the hang of at first, but after you understand how Bongo and everything works it isn't too bad. Lectures were not very helpful or interesting to me and I found that I mostly teaching myself. Homework is time consuming, lots of grades and extra credit. Tutoring helps a ton. Fair professor overall.
Not a professor, just has you teach yourself and use his stuff to do so. Available for questions, but will give poor answers. The class would be better if they just removed the professor and told you to read a book on the subject and do the exercises in the book for credit. He really doesn't even need to be there.
Prof. S is by far the worst. I have taken many courses and he is the most arrogant person you can ever come across. His e-book is a joke and he does not have time to help you. Do not even bother asking him, he is "too busy", he does not have time for "one on one" attention, he will tell you to just go to tutoring center. I wish I could put more.
Plain awful. Sucked at replying to emails. This is an online beginner programming class so you can imagine how much help I needed, but he made me feel like an idiot for asking questions. The e-book he provides doesn't give hard examples that he makes you do for the assignments. Got more help from students and a tutor than him!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER!!! He offers zero help so youre left asking other students for help. Then when you collaborate with a student he considers that plagiarism and youre left with a horrible grade (this has happened to so many students) DONT DO IT!!!
Not sure why everyone is so afraid of Dr. Steinberg. This class is challenging for most, as it was for me, but he goes over everything in class and there is so much extra credit available. Literally a 10-12% boost in your grade. Cancels class much more often than most professors, usually at convenient times(like to start break early, bad weather).
Decent professor, class is easy enough so long as you attend & read the textbook. He offers a lot of extra credit, so take him up on that if you're struggling. In class quizzes happen about every 2 weeks, and they can be pretty hard sometimes. Overall pretty average professor, Bongo sucks, and I saw a huge bulge in his pants the other day.
He created a website outside of blackboard. There is a lot of homework due but all on the same day, but its opened online for 2 weeks. They are very particular and must be exact to what he has/ wants. He teaches to the first couple rows of a 150+ person class. There are in class quizzes (thats kind of like attendance). Leaving early is real easy.
He would give random quizzes in class that were on random things, and you would not have enough time to complete them. He gives out a lot of extra credit if you talk in class. The material is very difficult. If you go to the tutors they will help you and pretty much do your work for you. His book has a lot of errors in it. He comes off as rude.
Geoffrey just so happens to be my favorite prof of all time. Not only does he show up to class in a stylish cowboy hat, but he is just overall very handsome. Usually kicks off class with inspirational videos. Afterwards, he says "What did you see?" emphatically and grants class participants with Steinbucks. Would take again!!!!!
A great man if you get to know him, dont be intimidated . I can't believe he has terrible reviews on here because this class was so easy if you put in some effort. Just shows you how lazy the majority of Kent State is. Go to class, pay attention, do the extra credit and you will do well
If you do the extra credit in the book you can boost your grade by like 10% or something ridiculous. Book is mandatory for extra credit + doing hw (bc he profits off of it).. teaches SQL that isn't actually useful anywhere but his class. It's not bad class at all but he's just not very knowledgable
BY FAR THE WORST CLASS. Unfortunately a lot of you guys will have to take this class. My suggestion is to find friends who you can study with and know the material or you will not pass. Computer apps is already hard enough but the Berg makes it 100 times harder than it needs to be. SO. MUCH. HOMEWORK. Better say your prayers now.
While his lectures are extremely boring and doesn't even tell you shortcuts to formulas (there's literally a tab for it on excel), the class isn't that bad. Just don't fall behind. Yes, the homework can be a bit overwhelming, but always get a friend to help and do the extra credit. I've bombed many of the in-class quizzes and I still have an A.
Needlessly difficult. Makes you use his website which is poorly set up. Instructions are unclear and often leads you to needing to go to tutoring. Around 20 people at tutoring at the same time in the last 2 weeks. Grading is weighted far too heavy at the last few assignments. Help from him nonexistant. He simply sent emails and told u to read book.
E-book is full of typos. Instructions for programs are purposefully vague and the examples in the book don't follow what you need to do. Claims that asking another student for help as "plagiarism" and will freeze your account unless if you see a tutor for help. Very rude in emails and is overall horrible. The class is way too much work.
Asked him for help on an assignment and he was nothing but rude to me. Disrespectful towards students. Final assignments weigh way too much and are too difficult. The class is unnecessarily way too much work and the E-book is vague and full of typos! Avoid this class at all costs. Hard to get help from tutors because so many people have to go.
Not that bad AT ALL. Tons(!!!) of extra credit, clear grading, multiple attempts on HW, can stop working/coming once you earn an A, in class quizzes are easy because you are allowed to talk among those around you. Assignments are kind of a pain, but not at all hard, gives hints on what you messed up, most allowed to be submitted 3+ times. Easy A.
The program he uses (and created) to grade your work is hopelessly broken and out of date. His project instructions didn't match the grading criteria so you'd have to go back and fix things according to the grader rather than his website. Other times, you'd have everything right but it'd still be marked wrong so you'd have to email and wait
The savior of his class is the MASS amounts of extra credit opportunities. You could literally get a letter grade and a half up if you do every single extra credit. However, later in the semester, the material was getting too complex and he wouldn't spend enough time. Luckily, my grade was so high that I didn't have to do the horrendous final.
Honest review here. Unless you have to take this course to graduate don't take it. Lots of homework that can be frustrating and potentiality take over an hour to complete. Do good on the first 3 units, as unit 4 is pretty difficult. Enough extra credit to increase grade a letter grade. Took the class online and got an A.
Read the book do the extra credit and youll be fine. I only went to class for the quizzes and worked on other hw while he lectured. I think I ended up with a 106% in this class because of all the extra credit. The homework is very tedious but once you get the hang of it, its okay. Do the homework on your own, because it will help for test.
The class itself is ridiculously easy, however, he randomly gives in class quizzes that require you to log in to his specific website for the course. His websites does not function particularly well and does not work well on mobile browsers at all. BE PREPARED TO HAVE YOUR LAPTOP EVERYDAY AND HAVE IT LOGGED INTO YOUR DESKTOP. He give no time to log
Attendance isnt mandatory but you take in class quizzes almost ever class. U actually have to pay attention because mostly its all new info. HW and quizzes are hard so you have to work for it. U dont have a final exam just a final project. Tons of extra credit opportunity. Prof very knowledgeable but if you talk during lecture he'll call u out
Great professor. The course requires a lot of your time because there are many HW. There are much Extra Credit opportunities that can increase your grade a lot.
The class is pretty easy if you come to class, take detailed notes, and pay attention. I bought the book so I could do the extra credit in it that added over 10% to my final grade. Go to class every time because there is a pop quiz worth over 1% of the final grade and there is usually one every class or every other class.
Dr. S is by far the best professor at KSU. Most students would disagree because they are lazy and not willing to work hard for anything. Students always want easy. If you actually want to learn something that will help you in your career, I highly recommend taking this course. He is inspirational, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable.
He makes you take quizzes in class, be prepared to always use technology in that class. Also, Yee Haw.
In every class, you can read the textbook to help you figure out what to do. The book is written by him, it is full of typos, and he -INTENTIONALLY- leaves out information in it. There is no logical A to Z continuum where you can read the book to gain a fundamental understanding. At least give us a PROPER textbook so I can LEARN. Lectures suck too.
This class was a very difficult class, but it is very likely you can get an A. Homework is due every 3 weeks, but do not wait to do it because you will be stuck doing it for hours. Go to the tutors because they help a ton. There is usually a quiz every class, but towards the end of the semester you can skip.
This class is really easy. Multiple attempts on the homework. Crazy amount of extra credit. Only reason you need to go to class if for the quizzes. Everything you need to know is in the book. If you know how to read then you will do well on the homework.
Alot of homework, but easy if pay attention in class. Quizzes about every class. Extremely large amount of extra credit (I got a whole 15% added, which allowed me to skip the final project). Can be very disrespectful and rude at times. Class was easy and work is fairly easy just time consuming at times.
You can tell he really wants the class to do well and love computers . You have a couple weeks to complete homework with multiple attempts allowed. Majority of the in-class quizzes ended up being for extra credit. Paying attention in lectures will help you get an easy "A." You always know your current grade as well, which is a huge plus!
Beware of pop quizzes! There is really no other reason to attend lectures which are very boring and I often fell asleep given that it was a 7:45a class. He's passionate and gives lots of extra credit. Lectures don't help much with the homework so many people struggled but if you have any background knowledge on how to use excel you'll do just fine.
He is a really rude teacher. Condescending, impatient, makes you feel small. Easy class but the teacher is a loser.
Easy class, the teacher is just rude and condescending. He wrote his own textbook so don't buy from bookstore. He gets angry when students don't interact with him at 7:45 am. In-class quiz almost every class.
Rough intro class but not a lot of work. Do the little bit of work there is to earn the easy points, laziness will destroy your grade. Second half of semester has a roughhh project, get ready for a mind bender. Overall not hard to do well but he's a character, a little cold upfront, but he's here to help in the end and helped reformed the major.
Dr. Steinberg is a very good professor who knows exactly what he is teaching. If you have a question, you need to make sure you ask him after class and do not interrupt him during class time. The material is confusing but if you reach out to him, he will help you in a timely fashion. Also, make sure you go to class because he often gives quizzes.
I had him for Cloud Computing. This dude makes you feel like you're completely stupid. I don't have enough space to write how frustrated I am with this guy so I'll just leave it at that. TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE WITH A DIFFERENT PROF! Save yourself the headaches.
Professor Steinberg is one of the best teachers at Kent State. I can't believe he has such a low rating. The class is easy if you know at least something about excel. He also gives A LOT of extra credit, I ended up having 114% in the class because of that.
Loved this class! Dr. Steinberg really knows what he is talking about when it comes to information systems. Content is a little dated which can sometimes be tricky when trying to learn Excel. If you do all of the extra credit and do well on the assignments, it is very easy to be able to finish this class early with an A+!
His lectures can sometimes be a little boring, however he is very thorough and cares about his students. Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives in class quizzes very often that you have to be there in order to get points (we had one almost every class.) Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities! Good transition to online during COVID-19 pandemic
He is blunt, knowledgable, and caring (yes, believe me). He can tell if you try, so talk to him if you struggle. Build a relationship with him, it'll help in this class and when you see him for the capstone. DO: Come into the course knowing it's not easy and may not be be a 4.0 gpa course, it's not a GenEd. DONT: Complain that it's too hard.
This class would be very challenging if there wasn't so much bonus. It really saves your grade. Some people don't like him because he has strict rules, but as long as you don't talk in class and do the homework, you'll have no problems.
Tons of homework, doesn't actually help the students. He has undergraduate students helping the students in the class. Lots of pop quizzes, I would avoid taking him.
he is a very good professor and is knowledgeable on computers and excel. If you take the online class there will be a lot of videos to watch and a lot of homework, but they are generally pretty easy. He offers a bunch of extra credit that is easy to complete, for example, on all homework's and quizzes if you get 100/100, he makes it a 110/100.
Computer applications would be easy to understand by an IT major. That being said, I'm a business major and I did NOT understand any of this (taken twice now). I've gotten tutors, had friends help and it still didn' make sense! The course is just made to be TOO unreasonably difficult. The first time I took this more than HALF of our class failed!!
(Computer Applications) Let me start this off by saying I didn't mind this class. I get average grades and I have decent computer skills. I did get an A+ in the class and I put a little more effort in the class compared to my others. If you pay attention to the videos for each lesson and record them to rewatch, the class isn't all that hard.
Steinberg was extremely rude and condescending to students. He would get very angry when students would not use webcams and ask questions. He has a group grading system that gives students control of others' grades and requires at least one student to lose points. Lectures are useless, I only attended the class twice and got an A.
Hes pretty rude, I dont recommend.
I loved this professor. His way of teaching was very easy to understand. He allowed multiple attempts on homework so that I could thoroughly learn the material and improve my scores. Professor Steinberg also gave many opportunities for extra credit. If you put in the effort you will get an A.
The website intro to computer apps uses is absolutely horrible, but I can see why he chooses to use it over blackboard/canvas. The class can be difficult if you aren't already comfortable with excel. Professor is not the nicest and comes off as condescending in emails when you ask for help
I love steinberg!! Im definitely in the minority on that though. Lots of homework and projects. But hes a super easy grader and is always willing to work with you if you do something wrong! His big lecture classes are not representative of how good of a professor he is. Take a smaller class with him to get the true steinberg experience
I took Comp. Apps. online. He records lectures, which are required to view, and I would suggest taking notes. This course wasnt the easiest to follow but as long as you pay attention and stay on top of your work, its an easy A. The online textbook is required & sometimes explains lessons better than he does. This course has a lot of extra credit.
The class is a great introduction to important tools such as SQL and EXCEL. Although there are a lot of assignments, pacing yourself effectively is the best way to handle the course. You can find all the answers to assignments and quizzes in the lectures and textbook, so he helps set you up for success if you pay attention. Overall great professor!
He is a good professor. If you aren't tech savvy then it is a challenging class, but he makes it as easy as it can be. Opportunities for extra credit and lots of at home work.
If you have any respect for yourself, do not take this class. It is outdated and if you think you are tech savvy, you probably are not. I wish so badly I did not have to take this class for graduation because I would avoid it at all costs. The professor does some beneficial things such as recording lectures and replying quickly to emails. Helps too
Don't be afraid of this prof and course unless you are looking for an easy class. It's completely self-paced and can be finished in a month, but is just very time consuming and you have to do the readings and activities. I loved this format, but if you don't do well with online classes this is a very difficult class.
Steinberg was an alright professor, the class was an bit tough, but I worked my way up to an A after I got the hang of it. I didn't have contact with him, but I have heard him sending condescending emails to other students. Lots of extra credit to help you get to an A. I would probably give him another chance with another class.
At first, Dr. Steinberg can be intimidating. I have taken several courses over 4 years at Kent with him and I was extremely put off at first. You have to realize that this guy is a literal genius. Reach out for help and he will give it to you. He will tell you what you are doing wrong and give tips on how to fix it. Bigger classes can be stressful.
If you are a non- computer science major, stay away. All I can say really. He is very condescending and offers rare to little help when you ask questions.
He seems nice. He seems to care about the class. I find it very hard to care so I find it hard to give a good evaluation. It isn't overly hard. The grading is very straight forward. Everything is laid out for you and it should be easy to succeed in this class I just personally hate the class so finding the motivation was hard. He seems solid though
Almost every two words of the $80 textbook I bought for this class are not separated by spaces. I complained to my Academic Advisor because this class was ridiculously difficult. I stopped asking him for help because his emails were lowkey condescending. It's possible to get an A, but I don't recommend this guy.
