One of the worst teacher I ever had!!! His grading is very unfair and his attitude is bad. He is very very "sure of himself." Basucally avoid him if you can
It's one of the best classes i've taken this far. It made me want to add psychology as another major! Dr. Turner is the best out there, very helpful, answers all our questions (even the most random ones) and he has a good sense of humour. Take the class!
Professor Turner has his student fans and enemys. some find him way too hard but I found that he motivated me to work hard in his class. Even with a 9 am class I was interested and awake his presentation is really lively. He is great.
Wicked funny man and makes classes go by quick, your sure to laugh at least once. Tests are harder than people expect and even though class may be fun you can't overlook the fact that you still need to study (aka- not an easy A).
Dr.Turner is a great prof! He is funny and really works hard at making class interesting. He makes it easy to understand the principles of psych. He's very helpful too, and while his class is not an 'easy A', its not too hard either.
Prof. Turner is a hard professor who may have his quirks, but overall I think that he is a good professor who knows his stuff. His lectures can be a bit unclear at times, but he always welcomes questions.
Overall hes not bad of a teacher. He may be unclear a lot of times but you're sure to understand before exam time. He's hard but what teacher isnt?
This is not an easy class. I don't know how he grades the essays we wrote for him. You think the test is easy when you pass in it, but when you get it back you'll get lower than you expect it.
this was a fun class, he gave good examples of theorys and was always willing to answer questions. the tests are fair, if you study and do the reading you will be fine. i def. recommend taking him.
MR. TURNER IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER,I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANY ONE INTERESTED IN PSHYCHOLOGY. HE HAS VERY CLEAR EXAMPLESFOR THE THEORIES HE TEACHES, AND ALSO ANSWERS ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. NONE THE LESS, ITS NOT A CLASS YOU WOULD TAKE FOR AN EASY A.
I loved him. I found him extremly helpful and willing to take questions at any time. He is very clear about what he expects of students and if you don't do those things you won't get a good grade. It's simple. Very caring.
dr turner will teach and teach until everyone understands. he will make sure everyone is on the same page. that is so important in a very content-heavy class. work hard, study hard, and you will learn much and receive great grades. and he's adorable!
Dr Turner is a really nice guy who will answer any questions you have about the material to make sure that everyone understands. Tests and quizzes are challenging so make sure to study. He is a hard grader as well. He makes the class really fun and isn't afraid to joke around with his students.
unreliable
Strong lecturer, difficult grader, fair teacher.
Very boring. I found him to make inaccurate refferences that were otherwise noted in the text. I found his sarcassim to be rude and not funny. not a very stimulating course in my opinion. If you read the textbook test are a piece of cake!! Papers are redundant and not very stimulating also. Class syllabus should be rethought some.
Not interesting, and unreliable. If you go through powerpoints and read test are a breeze.

Kinda annoying and sarcastic
turner is def. the hardest professor i've had. he treats you like adults though-expects you to come to class ready to continue with material and have intellectual conversations. he is always willing to help you with whatever you need, as long as you are willing to learn. I learned so much from him; he raised my personal standerds to a higher level.
Good teacher, not very helpful or understanding.
He is my FAVORITE professor at simmons. He isn't easy, but he is incredibly helpful and a great teacher.
Pretty funny, interesting. I'd recommend it...just be sure to do the readings!
Great prof. engaging, challenging, knowledgeable, helpful, uses clear examples to illustrate hard-to-grasp concepts and funny (which always helps). Whether you take his intro class for a mode, your major, or for fun, you WILL walk out of there having learned a LOT. Fair grader. I highly recommend taking a class with him. Any class.

all though he is super hard, and an even harder grader, he really allows you learn, not just to memorize fact, but he gives you a chance to apply your knowlegde, and that is where the true teaching comes from. oh and he is funny and not bd to look at, however i do believe he is getting a big head
I thought he was a very good professor and presented his material in a way that made the material easily understandable. He also connected concept with situations we actually have had experience with in our lives which made the material easier to understand. The quizzes every friday really helped me stay on top of everything.
great guy, very down to earth and always willing to help out
he's awesome, really nice and approachable. developmental psych is a fun class, and he's very knowledgeable.
He is a very easy teacher and I enjoy pysc 101 alot. I have a 101.5 in his class right now. His tests are VERY FAIR and the book we use for class is such an easy read! highly recommend him---although he can be stubborn. He wouldn't tell me my test grade cause he thought it was unfair, and he also wouldn't give my friend credit for a test quest
Your whole grade is based solely on tests and quizzes, making it hard for someone who isn't a good test taker to succeed. He knows a lot but is really cocky and set in his ways. I did learn a lot in his class though I couldn't always apply it to test questions.
I was in his MCC class on the Nature and Nurture of Gender. He made the class very interesting, especially with the debates he started. No tests or quizzes in this class, only a few papers and some reading. You can rewrite a paper as many times as needed to get the A. Very nice and supportive teacher.
This prof is crazy. He doesn't trust his students and makes all different ques. for HW for each person. Also everything is graded and each point will count toward your grade.
Professor Turner's a hard grader but for tests he changes all the low scores to the one that's the highest. He's a really great lecturer and explains things very well. He welcomes all questions. Downfall is that he doesn't discuss your grades with you and his tests are really hard. Take his class but be aware, it's not an easy A.
Turner is one of those guys that you either hate or are madly in love with. I can't stand this guy when it comes to MCC, but he may be a better psych professor. He never gave us back our papers and is not very clear at all what he wants from us as far as assignments go. Oh, and whoever said this guys is hot is out of their mind.
He will tell you everything you need to know to be a Psych major at Simmons. I'm in my third year and have taken quite a few Psych courses and he is by far the fairest and most helpful. Everything I'm learning in my Psych courses I've already learned from him. Read the book! Take the time to redo the tests! Pay attention! Ask questions!
Taking this class gave me a tremendous boost in study skills and life knowledge. He teaches an engaging class that has you feeling like you are thinking with a whole new brain. Lots of book material on exams, BUT the book is the most interesting and clear text I've ever read. He is no nonsense and kind of aloof, but funny and fair. You learn a lot.
Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. His sense of humor is just dry enough to make the class interesting funny without being inappropriate. He knows psychology well and he will help you with anything you need. It's so easy to ask questions during class too.
Dr. Turner is a very demanding professor and a hard grader. That being said, I learned a lot in his class. He held my attention the entire time, and I found his lectures interesting. This class is NOT an easy A. However, if you do all the reading and devote ample time to studying, it's not that difficult.
super interesting class. the tests get difficult as the year progresses, but you always have a chance to higher your grade with test corrections and doing better on the next exam. one thing he doesnt do is go over the exam, so you don't really know why an answer is correct. he tries to make every lecture as clear and relate-able as possible.
I took one class with him and liked him so much I took another. His syllabus makes him seem super strict, but he's a very fair grader, and very lenient on other things (e.g., you can eat in class). He explains everything so clearly and occasionally makes witty comments on the material. All in all, he's a good-natured guy and an exceptional teacher.
I would recommend you to take Psyc with him if you don't care abut your final grade. It's hard to get an A unless you study really hard for it. There are a lot of hypothetical questions on the exams rather than factual ones. Basically, he teaches very well, but isn't lenient with grading.
Best class I had at Simmons.
Expects a lot from students even though he doesn't teach well and class is based around students asking questions irrelevant to the topic at hand rather than him teaching the material.
Test questions can be unclear, but if you can explain why your answer is right, he might be willing to give you credit. If not, you can earn credit back with test corrections and later tests. Talk to him after class and ask a lot of questions - this is how you will get the most out of his classes. Get an A and you don't have to take the final exam.
It's really hard to contact him for help outside of class, he is almost never available. His in class lectures are entertaining, but he constantly references his children practically every class. His online tests are hard, and if there is an issue accessing or during the exam you can never contact him, but his in class exams are as usual.
Professor Turner is a good guy who knows his stuff. My only gripe with him is that he took an unreasonable amount of time to grade assignments (a few weeks sometimes). I found it seriously unfair that I had to meet strict deadlines and he couldn't be bothered to get my assignment back to me in a reasonable amount of time.
Loved Turner. His lecture material could be more in depth, but it was good. He gets off track a lot but it's never unrelated. He's willing to answer any question and welcomes participation. His tests are mostly conceptual, so know the ideas behind topics. Funny guy, would recommend.
Not a good idea
Attendance is not mandatory and honestly the class isn't completely worth going to. The exams are online, so therefore you have the book and entire internet to use. However, test questions aren't always clear and therefore aren't easy 100s, but you do get more than one chance at multiple choice which is nice. Kind of boring but he's a funny guy
All of the quizzes were oddly worded (sometimes trick) questions, and double negatives. You have about a minute for each one. Apparently he just "pulls them from a list." He has been teaching the class for 20 years which means he is pretty checked out. Lectures very anecdotal and chatty. Do not take this class unless you have to for your major.
Best professor at Simmons! He is always willing to make office hours if you are having difficulty with the material or want to go over an exam. His lectures are relatable and easy to follow. He also incorporates many ways to better your grade.
I enjoyed taking his class. He has a kind of weird sense of humor, but his lectures are entertaining. I missed class a couple of times and got an A in the class, mostly because I read the text book. He likes to ask questions to the class, but he never put anyone on the spot. I wish more classes were taught the same way as this class!
I had Dr. Turner for psych 101 & developmental. As a senior who's now taken psych classes with a number of professors, I'm so grateful that he was my teacher for these courses. You learn so much, and his lecture style is intriguing. I'm not one to speak in class, but I found myself willingly participating during many of his lectures.
class is boring and nonmandatory. He clearly knows what he's talking about, but doesn't seem to care much about teaching a 101 class. Tests are online, therefore open book/Internet, but are still incredibly confusing and not an easy A.
There were only a few tests and they were online, they made little to no sense in accordance with the book and lecture. He makes test questions more off of what he enjoys talking about rather than the things we were expecting from class. I did not enjoy this class and regularly dreaded going. He is very stuck-up and cares little for his students.
Turner is rude to students and doesn't respect us. Classes aren't mandatory and all tests are online, and frankly I can't stand to be in his presence anyways. The exams are tricky and don't really cover what he teaches in class. His grading policy is very forgiving, though. His lectures are interesting, if you can put up with his personality.
He was great. Straight to the point, and has a unique grading system, that literally makes it almost impossible to fail. And he's really funny.
Turner's class is not attendance mandatory, and you don't need to show up except for quizzes. Exams are given outside of class and he offers extra credit. Super easy, there's honestly no reason to not get an A. Takes FOREVER to grade though
Literally the easiest class I've ever taken in my life, which he does on purpose. You can skip every class and still get an A. However, he's an amazing and hilarious lecturer, so class is actually really worth going to.
great lecturer
Professor Turner can sometimes can be a little unclear when teaching a new topic, but he is great about answering all questions, regardless of how much time it takes up. He can come off a little cold and uncaring at first (i almost dropped the class on the first day) but that is just his style and it is great preparation for the real world.
Turner is exactly what you expect from a 101 level professor. Kind of stuck up and opinionated, but decent. He is brutally honest and makes it seem like he doesn't care, but you can tell that he does. His lectures are decent and explain difficult material from the book. As long as you read the book, you'll do fine.
Professor Turner's class was probably my favorite this semester. He is such a funny teacher, he is laidback and flexible and understands you have a life outside of class but he also pushes us to really learn the material. Yes, you have to read a lot for his class, but the information sticks with you in the long run
Doctor Turner's class was difficult and textbook information heavy, so if you don't read, don't expect to do well on quizzes and tests. But he will always answer questions and responds to emails.
Professor Turder. Worst professor ive ever had, he will not help anyone because he cares too much about himself and his son. If you ask for help or clarification, he will give basic answers and put no effort into caring about students success.
Dr. Turner is a good professor. I think its well known that his classes are easy. What I didn't like was that he wont answer any email. It doesn't matter what it was, he insisted to talk to him and that's fine but if I'm sick and I cant make it to class there's no way I could get a hold of him to ask a question about a lecture or pre exam question.
Professor Turner was great! He does a lot of tests and quizzes but he has so many opportunities for extra credit and its almost impossible to fail this class as long as you of the work. He's super funny too.
This class was incredibly hard, especially coming into this intro stats class with no previous experience. The examples in class were completely different than the test questions, and overall, it was hard to really understand anything that we were doing in the class. However, we did use rstudio plenty in this class, which was pretty interesting
He's a great lecturer. Attendance is not required but he makes class enjoyable so you'll want to go. He's bad at responding emails, despite his claims, and you won't find out your grade until the last week. It's relatively simple to pass though. He's great at answering questions (during class), but you can tell he doesn't update his slides often
Honestly great professor. Very engaging and kind. Attendance isn't mandatory but it is much more helpful than simply reading the textbook chapters. Lots of quizzes and tests but policies are forgiving so if you get a bad grade on one thing, it won't tank your grade
Definitely a hard class, but not because of the professor, because of the content. Attendance isn't mandatory, but honestly I wouldn't have known how to do a single thing if I didn't attend the lectures. Make sure you do the homeworks because that is a good amount of your grade.
Professor Turner was great! I felt engaged during every class and he loves class discussions so make sure to ask questions. He has a very unique grading system which makes it almost impossible to fail. There are a BUNCH of exams and quizzes with stuff found directly in the textbook and he genuinely wants his student to engage in the work.
I enjoyed the lectures themselves. However, Professor Turner often spoke in a condescending manner.
Attendance doesn't count but I would really recommend going to class. He is very funny and tells awesome stories. He makes class very interesting and barely talks about historical stuff/theories. I found his tests to be very difficult even when I studied for them and I know other students said the same. I would take his class again.
Attendance isn't mandatory but I doubt you'll learn if you don't go. He will NOT get through the syllabus, which is frustrating, so don't expect to get past chapter 6-7. Charismatic guy, gives good examples and is available for extra help, always answers questions. Doesn't do exam review, and questions could be on anything. Lots of outside work!!!
He's genuinely so awful I beg you do not take his class unless you want to suffer. Not only his lectures will put you to sleep, he takes excruciating unnecessary long pauses and stares oddly into space. Not understanding of you as your own individual with a life and harder classes outside of his class at ALL. Inconsistent style of exam format
Was not a helpful professor, ineffective teacher. Hard to follow, and when asked for more resources, refused. Demeaning.
He's fine.If you're ready to keep your head down, actually do the work that's assigned. It really shouldn't matter whether you like him as a person or not. If you have critical thinking ability and are ready to just pay attention and actually do the work that's asked of you, it's not difficult.
I heard he is ok for psych, but avoid taking his stats class at all costs! The class was very unorganized and he was always unprepared. Everyone I know who took this class called their mom crying about it at some point.
His class is like downloading a whole psychology degree in 14 weeks. Every class had enough material to start a podcast. I tried to keep it up, but my notes looked more like abstract art by the end. Not a bad professor at all, just a lot to absorb. Take this class with a good nights sleep, maybe caffeine, and possibly a second brain.
I hated every second of that class, but he is a good professor. If you need to take psych 101 and he's the only option take the class with him its not that bad. I also did learn a lot from the class and he loves telling you how to study so even though the class is the worst you'll leave knowing something new.
Every assignment must be finished before 10 pm the day before the lecture. The assignment is about MORE THAN 100 PAGES to read. He gives a good lecture, tho, and funny sometimes. But do not take it if you don't need to. Doesn't have a study guide, and you have to study EVERY SINGLE THING in the class including the textbook.
Most important to know: 100+ page reading assignments (get started early) + quizzed for each reading, DUE BY 10 PM. He is very particular about his policies, specifically attendance and turning things in on time. Class is organized well, and each unit has the same sort of layout. He has engaging/funny lectures, but is def a mansplainer.
At first I'd been worried since I heard mixed reviews from many students, but I'd say he's a decent professor. He's definitely strict with attendance policies and enforcing his syllabus, however if you're reading the textbook and attending lectures, its an easy class. Just make sure to submit work on time. Plus, he allows cheat sheets for exams!
Good class and professor, as long as you're not trans or mentally/physically disabled.
(Fa 23)Easily the worst prof I've had Wouldn't let anyone get an excused absence, even a peer that had someone close to them pass away.I was so sick my vision was blurry &I had to go to the urgent care and he wouldn't excuse me from the exam.Had an exam after break I forgot ab bc he didn't post it anywhere. Then he missed class his fam member died…
