worst ever! Does not know how to teach and explain things. Tests are horrible, especially the ones that are coming from his "own collection". A lot of people dropped this class, a lot - failing. Unless you know the subject already - don't have high expectations for the knowledge or a grade. Would not recommend to anyone.
yep, wouldn't take him again for sure. Class itself is not hard, don't even have to show up for the class except "test days". Test are very difficult and confusing. How can you answer right if you don't understand what he wants?? Took his tests to another professor, she couldn't even help, said same thing - doesn't understand the questions...
Professor Raub is a really nice old man. He'd make a great grandfather. But he's useless when it comes to teaching! Completely incomprehensible- tutoring centers and other professional statisticians threw up their hands- not understanding the question. My class started out with 15 or so, now there are only 5 left- all are failing and NO CURVES!
Sadly he fails to stay on topic, Math is my favorite subject i usually excel in that department but this professor makes it so CONFUSING!
Worst math teacher I have ever had. When you ask a question he won't answer it if no one knows how to do it or no one tries to answer it. He doesn't teach from the book so good luck on tests, which are worded in a confusing manner, but the curves are great since everyone but one person has failed every test almost.
Worst teacher ever! He is not even a teacher just confusing the whole class! The tests are horrible, you don't know what he is asking for and he never teaches from the book! Never answers the questions you ask! He thinks that when the students don't understand the info in class it ain't his problem! I hate it!
Smart man, poor teacher. He knows it all and goes so fast that you feel dumb asking quesiton. Offers to help but students are too intimidated to ask so nobody does. Allows notes for exams.
Prof. Raub teaches a challenging class. His tests are difficult, however he is very fair. Grades are curved, he provides clear explanations given you ask questions, there's extra credit, great supplement notes & if the class is struggling he even allows for re-takes on tests. For this class it's true, You will get out of it what you put into it!!
Prof. Raub is so challenging, his exams are tough.
very confusing! doesn't know how to teach! doesn't give an example of what kind of answers he wants from the test! doesn't have a practice quiz or questions in class which makes it harder for people to learn especially those who are not as smart as him or are slow learners. very smart but explains and teaches poorly! i totally dont recommend him!
This class is impossible. Started with 35 students, now there is 8. All doing poorly. Nice man but horrible teacher. Blazes through chapters, must do 15% of homework problems (each section). tests are super hard! Unless your enstein yourself, you will get below a C. Buyer beware.
DONT ever take this man!!! he's a nice guy, but he is a horrible teacher!! We started the semester with 40 students then 35 students of them dropped the class! his tests are freaking hard. TRUST me you will get C maximum if you gonna take with this guy!!
his tests are super hard but u get a choice to take it home for a week and thats what u should do no matter what u do it will be hard with the cheat sheet taking it home will help u out and its super easy to cheat in his class he doesnt pay attention at all
Horrible class. Raub is confusing, smug, and flies through the material. Our class dropped from about 30 students to 8. Probably all but 3 failed the class. Avoid taking a class with him at all costs.
He is snobby, condescending, arrogant. He is bad what he does. His tests are horrible. Stay away from him!
George Raub is a good professor overall but only if someone is already knowledgeable of the subject. He would try to fit in as many sessions and chapters in one day and was not clear at all because of that. The notes I would take in class and study with were not a single help when it came to the test. He also doesn't use blackboard so often.
You get out of it what you put into it. There's no wasy A here, but he's a fair, nice guy and tells plenty of interesting stories. I'll give, he's sometimes formidable to talk to, but if you do he homework and go over the slides provided, he's fine with answering any questions. He's also a native English speaker who's interested in what he teaches.
He never explains anything except about how he was a "god" at his last job. He gets all defensive when you try to ask him questions. You are expected to already know the subject even though it is an intro course. Everything you ask him is too trivial for his time.
Condescending. I'm sure he'd be helpful if you'd ask, but good luck. I think the class started with 30, and there are currently 5 people who attend class regularly.
some times he gives you the draft copy of the test, which this semester he has every test and even for the finial, the only draw back to this is that the tests are really hard .
Professor George was not an easy professor. His class was probably the hardest! Attendance is mandatory and to pass in his tests a student needs to study a lot outside the classroom. He gave us 4 class tests and assignments for extra credits and few points for perfect attendance. Good luck, I can assure you'll learn a lot if you take him!
He goes off topic easily We had the first test not long ago and the feedback was nonexistent, the test was too long for the time, many questions were unclear, etc I approached him afterwards for help about the test corrections, which was only for the first exam. he marked with a ? when wrong, but he wouldnt help me figure out where i err'd
There is virtually no resources to help you to prepare for exams. He doesn't use the textbook and requires no homework. This class kind of forces you to take the material he has given you, spend hours trying to compare his resources to textbook resources, and get completely lost in the process. Absolutely horrible, I recommend Pr. Highsmith!
He's not very clear on the material. The tests are horribly hard, and incredibly unreasonable. He runs through the material very fast as well, so I recommend getting a tutor or expect to spend a lot of time outside of class understanding the material.
I would never take his class again. He is condescending when you ask questions and he would go outside of our curriculum on tests and hw just to trip us up, sometimes he even gave us calculus questions even though it was a 152 class. He also is not good at explaining things and he is boring.
he gets so personally offended when you ask questions
I'll admit he's not the easiest teacher, but he is smart and he really does try his best to explain the material. He's not a bad teacher, the material is just tough to digest for some people. Really try to participate, show up, ask lots of questions, and take good notes. Sometimes he does make a mean comment but just kindly tell him after.
I ended up being very disappointed with this professor. I showed up every class, did my homework, studied very hard for the tests, but this class was still close to impossible. Unless you are naturally good at Statistics, DO NOT take this professor. He WILL NOT explain things to you, he is condescending and rude, and very unclear in his instruction
He's old-school, will go through the content quickly but thoroughly. He may sound impatient with questions, but he really just sounds impatient a lot. Most importantly, he gives you amazing study guides, ours were 99% similar to the tests. Own the study guide, including the bonus questions, and you'll get an A on every test.
FUNNY GUY. Old school in a good way. The material he teaches is hard to grasp and he's very intellectual so it's hard for him to understand how you might not be catching on BUT he does a Q&A sesh the class before the test and the exams are formatted so you literally can't fail. you'll need to do your homework thoroughly and understand the content.
Professor Raub is a very intelligent man, and can be a very intelligent man but his course is extremely hard. If you are bad at math I would not suggest his course unless you are willing to put in hours of work. He is a very charismatic person but does not like to wait. Lectures will be fast and confusing at times. If you're behind good luck.
Proffesor Raub is very charismatic. But that's the only thing that he has going for him. He's consistently late to class by 20 minutes. He goes over slides too quickly without giving you chance to actually study them. His tests are insanely hard, giving you overly specific problems. I had a tutor for this class, he couldn't help with his problems.
He didn't answer some students' questions because he thought he already explained enough, regardless of many students not understanding the material. It was very stressful and I only passed because I did the "take-home" final exam option which is obviously open book but with a potential maximum score of B. The final exam grade replaces lower grades
He is very knowledgable and nice, but has lots to say... the class is not interactive, you listen to what he says and then leave. The test? Impossible, hard and doesn't make sense! Everyone failed the midterm exam, causing him to give us a take home exam. The take home exam? easier because of the notes, but still super hard. Work hard to get an A!
This class was just plain awful. Lectures are vague and disorganized, and the exams contain material never even reviewed in class. There are two sets of powerpoints you must learn, but they don't correspond to the material taught in lecture. It was a struggle to keep afloat. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
Very knowledgeable but assumes his students already have a strong understanding of the coursework. when asked a question he would become frustrated and not answer. He goes through material very quickly and does not explain material in depth. The tests do not cover anything studied in class. Save yourself the frustration. Find a better teacher.
This will be tough. You will have to work. But if you do, you will understand the material really, really well. If not, you will fail. he gives extra credit and everything he can to help people pass the class, but it's not easy for some people. Attend class, take notes, and listen.
I am so good at math and had to drop this class because Prof Raub did not teach and was not willing to help. He constantly tell you that he doesn't need to do any work because he's already finished school and is not helpful at all. Please save yourselves, don't take this class.
Everyone has a different learning style. If you like fast-paced and you know the material already this is the class for you. if not... this is NOT the class for you trust me.
He's really nice but he's so smart he doesn't comprehend why his students aren't understanding the course material Does NOT go by the textbook, sometimes contradicts it so you can't self-study Biggest problem were his tests-complicatedly worded, not MC, you have to figure out what the question is even asking Also, just breezes through concepts
Be careful who you choose as your professor. He's strict. Be sure to get ready for a lot of homework, and the way he talks repetitively.
He talks way too fast and assumes the student know what he's talking about. Save yourself and don't take his class!!!
Strict teacher
Unfortunately he doesn't explain the material thoroughly. When students ask questions, he refers to the book or gives some vague explanation. Because of the lack of help, I studied a lot on my own and had to look up many concepts on the internet. Only students with very good math knowledge should take his class.
Raub is a very frustrating teacher. He spends a lot of time talking about unrelated topics (politics). He moves very quickly and isn't helpful. He's unable to relate at a lower level enough to explain concepts. His approach is to tell you to Google it when you have a question, or else, his explanations are confusing.
He spent a lot of time talking about unrelated topics and was very unclear about assignment instructions. He was also very bad at explaining how to solve anything. He bell curves every test and the average was still really low. My GPA is horribly messed up because of this class. Wait and take a different professor because you will fail.
If you really want to learn tangible, hands-on experience in data science world, go for Professor Raub. Real world examples from the best statistician out there. If you are enrolling for easy grade without learning actual concepts, this Professor is not for you! I enjoyed his class, the best examples, tons of humor and excellent teaching skills!
DO NOT take this professor, unless you want to fail. Professor Raubs explanations for projects and homework are vague and confusing. Prepare to ask him for more information every time he posts an assignment. There is no study guide for exams, so you have no idea what questions are going to be on there. MyMathLab didn't even help for the midterms.
This was definitely the worse class ever. I'll definitely not recommend him as your professor, he gives you tons of homework on Mymathlab and on CANVAS and he expects you to complete it just perfect as he does and everything he say or explain doesn't help you at all. And he always says "this is not rocket science". "You should know how to do it!
He continously sent out emails that were rude and demeaning. He on average told us how dumb we all were at least four times a week, in class and through email. He had to give 100 for assignments because he realized he had provided assignments with errors that were impossible to complete. I will NEVER take this person again.
He is the worst teacher I ever had. He talks way to fast and assuming all of us will understand right away. He explains a lot but his explanation and the vocabulary that he uses are hard to understand to what really his point is. He always relay on emails rather than using the tools Canvas to communicate with us. His words makes me feel bad.
He is rude in emails. Once he explains something, that's all you get. He won't even try to help you understand anything. He talks a lot in lectures, but half of it is a tangent about something that doesn't really pertain to what you are learning. He doesn't care about his students, this is just a job for him. DO. NOT. TAKE. HIM.
Raub was one of the most difficult professors I have ever had and not because of the content. His lectures are extremely tangential and he overloads the class with information, rarely if ever stopping to ask for questions. He did not go by any textbook and did not provide adequate resources for us to learn on our own.
The worst teachers I have ever had! He is impossible to work with and moralistic. Brings up politics in math and makes students uncomfortable. If I were in a position to fire him, he would be fired. Teachers should be evaluated on the performance of their students. He literally sets up all his students for failure. He is never willing to help.
I have not taken his class physically but I was in his online class during Fall 2020 semester and he was great for online learning, he may be hard to communicate with but he offers lots of extra credit and ways to bump up your grade. He is the only teacher offering extra credit, and all math classes use same website, this class is great for online
Prof Raub clearly knows what he's talking about, yet doesn't seem to care or maybe be able to teach well enough for students to understand the concepts. He actually gets annoyed when anyone interrupts his lectures to ask a question. He offers extensive extra credit which you will need to do because he leave absolutely NO wiggle room.
Not the best teacher if you are a visual learner. He also does not change the way he teaches although multiple people have complained. Although he does give multiple chances for students to fix their grades and extend deadlines. Mathlab test and canvas tests are on two different planets. His canvas tests make no sense. get another teacher if u can.
terrible teacher didn't teach the class. he expects ou to learn everything on your own. his canvas tests are extremely hard and very difficult to comprehend. It almost seems like he is using some formulas he came up with because they were hard to understand and follow. He seems to be a smart man but teaching definitely isn't his strong suit.
It was a nightmare taking this class. As I've heard from other students, this class isn't stressful for them because they had different professors who actually explained the criteria. He would seriously spend a good 3 hours in class not explaining. He couldn' use the board, he wouldn't read the questions, he wouldn't do anything besides talk about.
ENTIRE CLASS ALMOST FAILED! He makes his own tests, except for the ones assigned on the textbook website. He expects people to know what he is talking about the first time he talks about it. He doesn't give good explanation to the lecture slides. Overall very confusing and hardest class I have ever taken. I even spent 9 hours a week studying book.
Never in my life have I ever seen a class ALL FAIL THE EXAMS NEVER! THIS IS AN IMPOSSIBLE CLASS AND BEYOND DIFFICULT AND HE EVEN SAYS SO. DO NOT TAKE LISTEN TO ME.
One of the worst professors I've ever taken. He does not read the chat for Zoom, so don't bother typing. He gives you snarky and sarcastic responses to your email a week after you sent it. He rambles on and on about nothing useful.
George Raub was a vital presence in my learning. The first day of class, he gave us incorrect information and spun us a yarn about how the strength of the individual is their strongest asset. He personally knows Donald Trump. An inspiration to all students learning their place in the world. He lectures often, and it doesn't match our homework.
oh he's inspirational alright. he's inspired me to almost drop out of college entirely! and he's absolutely hilAAARIOUS! a total jokester! i mean this dude is the circus personified. it's *hilarious* that he thinks anyone can pass his joke of a class with his poor teaching style. also be prepared to hear lots of annoying idioms. goofy ahh
OMG! WORST TEACHER I HAD EVER HAD! This teacher is something special! DOEST NOT CARE FOR THE CLASS WHEN IT COMES TO EXPLAINING THINGS OR ASKING THE CLASS ON HOW THE STUDENTS ARE DOING! I SERIOUSLY MEAN IT! DON'T BOTHER ON TAKING THIS CLASS! READ THE COMMENTS :/
If you want a teacher who is never available outside of class and makes you look dumb by asking for help in front of class do not take him.He makes all his tests questions himself, none of them matches with the homework he gives tests are long and they are all in a google doc which you show all your work and submit.Dont take his class u will regret
Tests were nothing like lectures/homework. Homework through Aleks is tedious, but understandable, however the tests do not mirror the questions in any way, so it just felt like busywork. If you dared to speak up and ask a question during class you would be talked down to. I cannot urge you enough to pick any other professor.
Professor gives extremely rough exams. Exams consists of mostly word problems that you must solve, no real practice for the word problems. You use ALEKS to learn the material, however, the tests format the material in a way you will normally not be used to, therefore incredibly hard to solve. AVG grade for my class on most tests were 50.
Literally, I've given up on this professor. I don't understand anything in class. Literally, his class is just slideshows and the textbook, you don't learn anything. Run away from this professor if you can. Because as the semester goes on, more and more people start to not show up at all to class.
Doesn't give extensions for any sort of emergency. I was busy caring for my old, sick rabbit who ended up passing away by the end of the week. Couldn't complete my homework because of this and after explaining the situation to him PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE he still refused to give me an extension. Probably the most heartless professor I've ever had.
I cannot stress enough how bad professor Raub is. His lectures and notes do NOT follow his tests. His tests are extremely hard because he wants you to "understand it". His tests are terrible, not formatted properly, indirect, and long. He prefaces this by saying they are open note, but your notes wont help you at all. Please don't take him.
Let me tell yall something this man did not teach at all just read off slides literally the whole semester.
I have never had a bad experience with a professor until I took him. I felt like he enjoyed listening to himself talk more than he wanted to teach. There wasn't much time spent on working on problems. I do not recommend taking him especially if you struggle with math.
The exams are nothing like the homework. So insanely hard to answer the questions even with them being open note. You will fail if you take him.
His exams are formatted exactly the way an old professor would but much worse. The questions sometimes make NO SENSE and is NOTHING like the homework. You are bound to fail. If you think you can pass his class good luck. You'd have to be an absolute math wizard to do so. Horrible, noncaring professor.
I have never felt so incredibly stupid and confused in my life. Math is not my best subject but with some extra guidance I can do well. This professor does not care. If you struggle you will get left behind. His tests make no sense. I had a 4.0 gpa until I took his class. I think even if you are good at math you will still struggle A LOT!!!
He is one of the rudest teachers I have ever had. He is also extremely boring. All he does is read off the slides in a monotone voice with zero inflection. It for real sounds like he doesn't want to be there. Please don't take this course with him, all you'll do is suffer.
Fast-paced class and never stopped for questions. Taking his class was like trying to learn from a robot. A lot of homework on my mathlab. Didn't explain concepts, he just read through the slideshow.
Prof. Raub is a 1 of 1 at NOVA. It is clear he has held himself to a high standard through life. He is a true professional. His grading criteria is clear as day and he is very responsive and accessible. Please take your maths with him when possible, you will be better off for it going forward, especially when transferring. Chase excellence, always.
In my summer class, he made ALEKS worth 65.5% of our grade. The catch was that for every assignment, there is a knowledge check for every single unit that is worth 50% of each unit homework grade. He also hates questions with a passion and if you ask him one he will act like you disrespected his family or give you a condescending remark.
It has been a few years since taking this man's class and the negative impact he has made is unforgettable. He is overly emotional and takes things personally. He takes questions with value personally. Not questions about the syllabus that take up time but real questions involving the material. He is the only bad grade I have made.
It's time for him to retire. He's always confused during EVERY lecture and he's hard to follow along with. He's very rude and answers questions unprofessionally. Doesn't accept late work and attendance is mandatory. He also talks about Trump a lot, in our syllabus he posted himself, Abraham Lincoln and trump asking, "guess your professor" like ???
If you take him over Zoom, you have nothing to worry about. These reviews really scared me because he was my last resort as a teacher, but upon listening to his lectures and what not he really isn't that bad. There is a lot of ALEKS, so just stay on top of it and if you ask a question, don't get offended. His vibe's “I am a professor not a friend.”
I haven't even finished my class with this man yet but I need to warn yall now. His tests are a unique form of psychological torture. His instructions are as complicated and indirect as possible, and everything reads like a book from 1605. It's like he uses a thesaurus for every sentence he writes. I've never seen someone use the word “ensuing”more
Unless you're very strong in math, avoid Prof. Raub. He just reads off slides he didn't make, gives little practice, and isn't helpful. Homework (66.7% via ALEKS) is manageable, but midterm/final are very difficult and unlike practice. ALEKS doesn't match lectures, making this basically a self-taught, tough class.
In George's syllabus, among his weird "old-fashioned" way of writing, it states that if you have adequate reasoning, you can get an extension on an assignment. George must've accidentally put that there when he was drinking because he doesn't care for that rule at all.
Extremely rude and harsh. Makes it uncomfortable to ask questions since it feels like it bothers him
