Awesome professor loved the class and he really helped my Spanish.
I have to say that I was skeptical when he told us that a basic Spanish class was going to be taught only in Spanish but after the initial shock it actually was OK.
I could not learn Spanish, but finally I was able to get it. Once thing I can say about Profe Adams is you never knew what you were going to get. One day we use our smartphones to participate in polls and the next day we are planning a wedding for out friends.
I have really enjoyed the class. Not enough people give good teachers shout outs! so shout out Mr. Adams!! He loves what he does obviously and he cares about his students.
Mr. Adams is one of my favorite professors at UNCW. Whenever I didnt understand a topic he would make sure to explain until you got it. He loves what he does and he's relatable. The class was very fun!
I highly recommend him to anyone, whether new to Spanish or with experience. He is so helpful and is an easy grader. He sees what topics students struggle with and brings them back up in class. He doesn't leave you in the dark on any subjects and genuinely wants to see all of his students succeed. He is all around an awesome profe!
There were a lot of opportunities to express myself in Spanish. I felt that there was a of effort put into the course by Professor Adams. If he ever felt like something was unfair he would address it. We wrote, spoke, read and listened to culture based Spanish topics every day and he stressed that throughout the course!
He takes Spanish seriously that's for sure, but he doesn't take himself too seriously. Give it a while and follow his suggestions . I am now crushing it in my next class. I got frustrated when he would tell us "not to translate" and make us repeat things but it makes sense now. I miss his Spanish-only policy.
He tried a lot of different approaches to our class and has homed in on one that seems to work. He tries to get us talking in Spanish but my partner is too shy. He does try to get us to work with different people but no one really does. I like that he let us purchase the ebook only if we want, it saved me some money. Cool guy. I'm "getting it".
I have enjoyed this class with him this semester. He is outgoing and fun. I like the way he does his lectures. In my opinion some students in this particular class don't seem to really like this class or something because they are rude and he has been awesome in the way he manages it.
I have enjoyed his class. Bummed that I can't get him for the next level. He makes it fun.
The not so good- Group projects, pop quizzes, attendance policy (he told us that all SPN are same attendance policy though) The usual-Bring your book, lots of useful homework, only Spanish in class too (pro & con imo) The good-My Spanish is better, he's inspired me to study abroad, if you get his humor b ready 2 LAUGH. He likes participation
Professor Adams' Spanish class was a dynamic environment where the use of Spanish of any kind is applauded and expected on a regular basis. His enthusiasm is contagious. What he lacks in organization and structure he makes up for in wit and originality. He was willing to revisit homework and project expectation to ensure thier equality.
Spanish 120 was a fast paced class. Profe would try too get us to use Spanish and some of use would and some of us wouldn't. It was a really challenging course but my Spanish is better now. I can order at a restaurant in Spanish.
Profe Adams doesn't put up with any junk. I've read the comments and those snarky remarks mentioned are #1 hilarious & #2 usually due to someone not taking personal responsibility for their learning. I'm a non traditional student and I found him very enthusiastic and helpful.
If you can get in his class take it! I Have taken him for Spanish 1 and 2 and he is amazing!
I have been struggling with Spanish until I took Prof. Adams' class. He made Spanish relate-able and now I think I may get a minor or Double-Major in Spanish. I am grateful for this class and as promised.. .. .. My Spanish is SO much better!
Great class! It is not an easy A but totally achievable.
Just started working with Profe Adams this semester after trying a different languages with no luck. I have to say that I am impressed by his positive attitude and charisma. We had our first test today and he prepped us for it so well without making it too easy. He's a CLASS act... And as he would say. "See what I did there?"
I had been completely lost in class most of the time because it's been 4 years since my last Spanish course. He actually noticed by week 3. He spoke to me 1-on-1 and offered his time (non-creepy) and other solutions and assured me we 'll beat this together. I'm impressed and grateful. Now I can't say that I have done anything but he did try.
I was checking out his rmp page and it's neat to see he's still teaching. I had him for his first semester and mine. He made going to class enjoyable. Because of him I decided to minor in Spanish and spend the summer in Chile!
Really funny in class and he tried to gives us a way to remember everything. Tests were not too hard and he curved when needed it seemed. He let us grade our participation. There was decent test prep. When were were lost he would stop and go over whatever we didn't get.
Good instructor and Idk if it was just my class but everyone seemed to mesh. He loves for you to speak in Spanish. It's a different kinda classic though so if you are expecting a lecture... Wrong class. It's mainly hands on.
Profe Adams is hands down my favorite professor at UNCW. He gets to know each one of his students and how they learn best and works with you from there. He has a lot of students but still makes the class feel very personal. I'm not interested in studying Spanish by any means but he made the class very engaging and easy for me.
Loved Profe Adams! Will continue to go over material until everyone in the room gets it. Participation is graded, but you grade yourself. Homework (online) due MWF but never took me more than 20 minutes, and you get unlimited attempts to get questions right.
Although you do have to work for a good grade, Profe Adams cares about his students and wants them to pass, highly recommend this teacher.
We had about 10 quizzes, 4 exams, an interview, participation, Weekly homework and a final. He told us from the start that if you don't come to class that you won't do well. If you want an instructor that knows the plight of the student but still has high standards then look no further!! He'll grow on you the whole only Spanish thing kinda works...
This class was a requirement and I didn't want to take it. I originally had another instructor too. But to my delight Profe Adams used mnemonics and other tricks and we practice A LOT. I was understanding SO MUCH & it was fun. He was always willing to take his personal time 2 help outside of class. Funny how things work out. Great teacher!
Totally doable, he is an interesting professor. The semester was fun. He is more knowledgeable than any teacher I have ever had. His grading is strict, but if we didn't do well he would sometimes give us ways to improve our score as long as you don't ask him to do it and make it seem like it's his idea.
He's funny, but serious at the same time. He's tough but easy-going.
A lot of useful homework but it's not all due until the end of the semester. The course was English and Spanish. Be ready to have fun.
I really enjoyed his class, really nice guy. If you are willing to put in the work you will get a good a grade. There was a butt ton of busy work though.
Okay this is going to sound kind of like a mixed review but it really isn't. Over all, Adams is funny and he really cares about his students. BUT sometimes he got kind of intensely mad at stuff in class and it kinda wasn't warranted. Over all, my advice is to participate but not too much because you don't want him to see you as a suck up...
I can tell hes one of those teachers that cares. He does. He wants everyone to learn but some of us just don't care about Spanish. We are there because we have to be. The class is tough.
Professor Adams is amazing. The class is kind of intimidating at first, but he really cares about his students and it shows in the way he teaches. If he senses the class doesn't understand something, he takes the time to go over it again. He also really values feedback. A truly amazing professor!
A+ Professor he'll seems all-over-the-place and cold at first, but he's NOT! My secret for success in his classes: (1) pay attention, (2) come to class, (3) work with him and (4) that stupid survival vocab BRING IT or he will call you out. I enjoyed his class so much.
His online class has a lot of busy work but his communication is excellent.
I personally do not want to take another language course, but if I have the opportunity to take a class with Profe Adams, required or not, I will. He is hilarious and keeps me engaged with the material. I would highly recommend taking a language course with him.
He can be a little moody but his heart seems in the right place. Take him if you get the chance because he will definitely liven up your schedule. He's passionate about what he does and it shows. He expects that passion out of us but some days I just wanted to be lazy... Attendance policy is very odd and tests can be tricky. FINAL was a beast.
I enjoy his class. He's fun and he cares about our progress.
Lots of work but youll learn! Go to class and itll be much easier - plus attendance is mandatory. Being on top of the online homework assignments is key, because your grade depends on turning things in on time. He seems aloof at first but is funny and makes class enjoyable. Very good teacher and cares about his students! Wants us to succeed.
Took his online Spanish 2 class. It was great. Really information dense. He does this cool YouTube Video series. The videos are not too high tech or anything, just of him Speaking Spanish and his slide show. I found it was better than trying to learn on my own though!
Took his summer class. It was a whirlwind, but it is doable. Just follow his instructions in Canvas.
He is a very entertaining teacher, I was never bored in class. Lots of homework online outside of class due every class period, but it is all helpful for test material. He is very nice and cares about his students!
If you take this class you need to stay awake! Will call people out in class and make jokes. Participation mandatory but grading is fair since its a language course.
Prepare to dedicate at least 2 hours a week to this class. However, if you apply yourself and really commit to learning spanish, you'll do great. Profe Adams is very kind and always responses promptly to questions. You'll learn more than just reading and speaking spanish, you'll get a great taste of the culture as well. Walked away learning a lot.
He really made an effort to be real. I was impressed when he mixed up some dates one week and let everyone know that it was his error. He adjusted things to accommodate. You can tell he wants everyone to stay in the fold. Also if you have never heard of Gloria Trevi, you will.
He made Spanish online less daunting. He's a very good teacher that's really helpful easy to get in touch with, don't be afraid to send him emails with questions! The only thing was that being online, he had 1 page for all the assignments each week and hyperlinks to different submissions, which got a little confusing and I missed some assignments.
George Adams is the worst professor I have ever had at UNCW. The amount of work he gives you every week is ridiculous! Three quizzes, two tests, 4 hours of Spanish homework, a discussion post every single week! He doesn't seem to know that students have other classes to worry about! Never. Take. This. Professor.
I took his SPN 101 last summer and I was so happy I did when I took Spanish 2. It was so easy. He made learning online fun with his YouTube series. I actually referenced that more than my Spanish 2 teachers notes. I also figured out that he had videos for everything up there. Profe Adams is great on YouTube.
Horrible professor, going to ruin your year, don't take him.
Profe Adams is onr of a kind. He's willing to assist you in any way. The only thing is that we have to ask. Some students have a problem with him because he sticks to the rules the are in the syllabus and won't let us cheat. I respect him so much for trying to make a difference. He made a difference in my education
Top notch. If you have a problem with him like I did and don't talk to him one on one you won't realize how deep and effectual his teaching is. I am grateful for this class and the challenges I faced. I'm going to minor in Spanish now though! Because of Profe.
I took his summer class and it was fast but really good. We read in class almost every day. It is really helpful and I feel like he customized the class to us. Hes a good profe. A little unorganized at times but all in all a great class.
Profe Adams is a super nice guy but his classes are very unorganized. He has showed up late several times but at least when he's late he usually gives the class an extra credit quiz. He really does want his students to succeed and will help you with curves and extra credit but there is an hour to two hours of homework 3 days a week.
Profe Adams is the example of the type of teacher you should get when you pay college tuition. He is extremely caring and engaged and loves what he teaches. His class can be a little all over the place at times, but at the end of the day he's just doing what he thinks will help you learn spanish the best.
So I feel like he thinks that this class is tough for most students and he is aware of it. He seems like he wants you to get out of it alive. Like..." We're in this together, but there are some things we have to get through but we're going to get through it!" He's not the most organized person but he doesn't claim to be but he's awesome!
Great Spanish profe. Just make sure you show up and youll be fine. OH! And don't use your phone in class. He will not be a fan.
So I don't really like to leave comments on professors but I have to on Profe Adams. He has taught me more about being a good student and about how the how college thing works than anyone else ever. I honestly couldn't stand him at first. He seemed cocky and glib but he is actually really down-to-earth and kind. Take a moment and get to know him.
Professor Adams is by far the worst Professor at UNCW. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you have a job, quit it. Boyfriend/girlfriend? leave them. You will have no time for anything else. If you use any language that is not directly from the textbook he assumes you used an outside resource. You must dedicate your life to spanish. Good luck amigo/a!
Teaching was very muddy. Never really cared much to help his struggling students and gave way too much work. Below mid professor at best. Would rather watch the Panthers play football
I had Profe last semester and he was by far my favorite Spanish teacher. It was thanks to him that I got my pronunciation improved. Yes the class is a lot of work but if you organize your time well you will have no problem. He is very chaotic and a good friend
I was going to leave a review earlier this semester and I am glad I waited. He made this shift in the past few weeks. I had an issue with my grade and he told me what to expect and how he was going to fix it and it was fixed. We read in class in Spanish every day. You have to know Geography and he's always willing to push deadlines if we need it.
We read. A LOT! EVERY DAY. He's pretty easily distracted. Profe knows it though and it's a bit like getting lost in the woods you might not know where you're at but you have a really good fun time while you're there. And somehow it's usually relevant I don't know how he does it. This is not the first class I've had with him for a reason.
This is my second time taking this course at UNCW. I had a different teacher the first time and it was online. I did not feel like I learned anything. I am passing this class; albeit, with a fair amount of work put into it. Profe Adams has his ups and downs but overall it's an enjoyable experience.
I took his face to face summer class and he really gets how to teach summer. Super laid back. This is basically an online class if you want it to be. I missed like 2 weeks and got an A. Awesome fella..
This was a 5 wk class and I may not have really met the requirements for this level of Spanish. He called me out at first and knew that I wasn't in the right class. But he never stopped making sure that we were learning. Only 4 people in the course and no room to hide. We read and read! We talked in Spanish about the color wheel and cologne and ...
Professor Adams was the most unorganized professor I have ever taken a class from. He rarely answered my emails and the class's assignments on canvas were so scattered that I sometimes took 10 minutes just to find the assignments that I needed to work on.
I felt like he was never fully ready for class. He said he never reused his old material but I wish he would have used any material. Everything in class felt like a big waste of time. The homework was thro0ugh the online book and really didn't have anything to do with the things we talked about in class, if we did anything in class.
Profe is very VERY unorganized so if you like structure do not take his class. His promises are rarely kept when it comes to extra credit as well as what will be on the tests. He treats his classes like everyone in there is majoring/minoring in SPN. Before every class I would get extremely anxious because I never knew what to expect. DONT TAKE!
You will have to teach yourself, as Adams is very disorganized. He often goes on tangents and doesn't connect those tangents to the course material. He is unclear about deadlines and doesn't stick to the class schedule. He will single students out when you don't understand something. Please choose another spanish professor.
If you read any post, read mine. He was not the worst, but he made you work. He gives alright lectures, but after after about the second lecture until the last week of class, he is TOUGH. I wish I knew his teaching style earlier. He gave daily quizzes, but never really prepared you for what was on them. There was also a LOT of homework on VHL.
Lots of work but easy. Class was good.
I enjoyed the course. He is really into teaching Spanish. Sometimes I found it a little hectic, but he would always stop and address any metaphorical "Elephants in the room".
Not bad, journals could be better and more clear though.
I don't have anything negative to say. Spanish is hard. There's a lot of homework, but if you need help, he's there for you. I did notice that if you dont reach out, he will leave you alone.
Minus the mandatory attendance. I would not change anything about the class. I think that he is a stand-up guy and I am really glad that I had him this semester. I would recommend him for sure. I am planning on taking is next course. I enjoy his passion and his whimsy. Have fun and ignore these other negative nancies.
Tests are darn-near impossible, but he does generously curve them. There was extra credit in my semester. I don't know, I like the guy. I'm a non traditional student and I found his style a little more like what I am use to then all this open ended stuff we have to do everywhere. I did end up getting a tutor which he helped me connect with.
He is an amazing professor. Heavily overworked but he still manages to deliver great lectures, useful instruction and lots of engaging help. UNCW better tenure this man up soon, he deserves it. He has an eclectic wardrobe and is very down-to-earth, both of which are endearing. He is also very good at speaking Spanish.
Profe really tries to switch up activities. They are sometimes lame, but I just went with it. I had an issue with him about attendance. I was reluctant to say something but it turns out that he was super chill and hilarious. He cares a lot about participation. You do have to show up or you fail. Tests are graded pretty harsh but they get easier.
I didn't do well in the course but it was because I over did this semester. Profe worked with me to help me understand the material better. I am glad I had him. Super smart
I just want to give a shout out to Profe Adams trying to use a rubik's cube to teach. I loved that. It has inspired me to learn how to finish it. We are going to learn how to play chess in Spanish next class!! Or at least that is what he said.
Easy class. Just have to pay attention.
He can be a little slow in responding to emails over the weekend, but he will go out of his way for you if you are legit. 3rd class with him and he just gets better.
Profe Adams is a good prof if you're not very good with Spanish. If you're like me and you just want to take the class and be done then choose someone else. I dread showing up to class everyday and I have to because it will take points off my final grade if I don't. Don't take this class if you just wanna get done with Spanish.
He is super funny and is always open to help when you are struggling. A lot of assignments are also graded by participation! Will randomly call on you to participate so be prepared for that, but will help you out. Overall a great teacher!!
I have improved so much. I didn't think I could, Profe, but you never gave up on us!
I took this via zoom meetings twice a week (M/W). Attendance mattered. Have to participate for credit. Easy class if you try.
If somebody asked you to learn Spanish or die, and your professor was Prof. Adams, prepare that casket ASAP. Profe Adams, while a super nice guy who is very funny/personable, has been the worst experience I've ever had in Spanish. Professor Adams is very educated, very passionate about Spanish, but I do not recommend him to teach beginning levels.
Professor Adams was great. He made learning Spanish enjoyable, was fair with attendance, and he let my class decide how much everything was weighted. Gave us extra credit opportunities that consisted of eating at restaurants. Just remember not to use translation tools for homework, as the vocab list contains the words you're expected to use
