He is boring and only reads from his notes
this teacher goes out of his way to ensure that the students do well on his tests. though he doesn't seem as knowlegeable, he will try to do all he can to help you out.
Seems to have some complex and tries to make students feel stupid or less than him. Hard tests after boring confusing lectures. Not bad as a lab prof, but not great for lecture.
VERY CONDESCENDING AND BITTER. SAYS THAT HE WILL HELP YOU, BUT WHEN YOU ASK FOR IT MAKES A POINT OF MAKING FEEL BAD FOR ASKING IT.

I think Dr. Aliaga is a nice guy and a good teacher. He puts the students at ease and everyone in my class seemed to enjoy him.
I have him for Biology lab, and he's very thorough. The thing is that he's very soft spoken. He's nice and explains things but he's not very outgoing so sometimes it can be dull.
Nice man, bad teacher.
He needs to slow down some, and speak a little louder. Maybe a little less cheesy jokes too.
don't worry everyone drops!
This man is rude, shoves religion and his views down his student's throat and is uncaring about whether the students are learning anything. He simply reads the power points off the screen, humor is dry and it is hard, if not impossible, to stay interested
this is just one of those classes where if you dont read alooooooot, you dont pass. he expects you to remember everything from bio 1. which is ok. the lectures are just objective so you see that when you read, so it does help. its just funny seeing how many people think they can pass without reading. then they drop. be careful with the lab too.
He's always thinking outside of the box. A very interesting guy, but is very abrasive. If you take this class you will notice alot of silience when he asks questions. If you do not read the chapter the day before the class you will fail. I was accused of cheating because I used my lab book on our lab practical final. I should have dropped.
Proff. requires full time studying- Test questions repeat on the exams cause confusion- Skips around in chapters, which also evolves towards Bio II- ** Suggestion- in order to complete class, a student must dedicate more than 15 hours per week study time... Lec & Lab exams include a recalling all struc. & fuc. on all living matter & how they intact
Makes the material unwieldy and difficult. Does not test written objectives and will test on detailed info he says you do not need to know. This is not a bio major's course, he does not consider the audience and shows disdain for anyone that can't answer his often confusing questions in class. Mumbles quickly through power point slides...
Likes to play games to prove how superior he is to all of us lowly undergrads. Not a nice man. If you can memorize the textbook, you will be fine... do not trust him when he says something wont be on the test. Expect 'gifts' like extra essay/short answer announced as the test is passed out.
He is a good teacher. Everything that has been said here is true... He states something will not be on the test, but most of the time it is. BUT if he sees that you are in class and trying he will help!!!! Much easier than a lot of the other teachers!! For sure!!!
He is incredibly arrogant & not helpful. He thinks if u can't get what he says u must be an idiot. Sour demeanor, and seems to hate teaching. If you want no life take him. Word to the wise, if you take this class on this campus he sets up the lab particles- so if you have him for lab or not you gotta take his tests for that portion of the class :/
Everything stated below is true. He likes to spit out biology terms really fast so you have no clue as to what he's saying. The only positive thing I found is that he gave 5 extra points on the lab exam.
Let's face it... A&P is hard no matter who you take. Aliaga isn't THAT bad. If you want to pass READ YOUR BOOK! His tests can be tricky, but if you STUDY THE BOOK you will do good. This class is very time consumeing and there is a lot of memorization! Aliaga is extremely helpful and nice if you visit him during office hours!!
It doesn't matter how much you study, you will still make no higher than a C on the tests. His test questions are so hard. Even though you know the material he words it so that you don't know what the answer is. Half the class dropped after the first test.
He's hard and does not care about your grades, expect a very low grade
His humor is difficult for some people well in fact most people, but I found it to be funny because you can not take what he says personally. He likes questions to be asked during class which is interesting the trouble is hardly anyone can keep up with the class material to ask questions. Interesting fellow though.
Aliaga was the worst teacher Ive ever had. He teaches 1st yr bio as if youre in 4th & going to be a biologist. Tests are impossibly difficult, class ave was 54. He tells you @ the beginning of the semester hes going to try & make you fail, hes not helpful in the least, & hes rude to top it off. The class has 0 homework & tests impossible to pass.
Hardest teacher ever. Very hard to follow. Put in a lot of effort and only got a C. My average was about a 78.6.
Aliaga is a horrible teacher! I am a good student. I read and study for every class and test. He mumbles during lectures and says that things won't be on the test but then they are. Not only are his lectures confusing but he says that things won't be on the test and then low and behold they are! He hands out lecture objectives and tells you th
I'm planning to major in biology. However, this professor was completely discouraging. We would come to class and he would say, "I look at you guys and I can just say none of you are going to pass". It was really discouraging to hear that everyday, especially after studying for so long for his class and showing up and him saying that.
I feel bad, because he could be a nice guy outside of teaching...but he taught this course with no passion or desire for passing information to his students. He made it clear in the beginning that he didn't care if anyone passed-and after studying every night for hours I decided that it just wasn't worth having a teacher that didn't give a crap. Yo
Have my undergrad in bio already and believe that this class was way beyond the scope of what a freshman level bio class should be. I really felt sorry for the new students in class. Worked my butt off for a B+, I have a cummulative 3.5. Btw, he believes that "college is not for everybody." PLEASE, steer clear of his attitude, vague test questions
This proffesor is SUPER EASY!!! He is so unorganized so you must attend everyday because he tends to change the syllabus.Reviews are contain 100% of what is on the test. Take home 70 questions and the 30 are in class that come from the 70 you took home. If you fail you're just LAZY!! Oh and don't talk in class. He's a OLD GROUCH so beware, he yells
I did the rating above, that was for James Wilson teaches BIO 1408-9 TCCNW. Aliaga was a very bad proffesor, cares less about the students and very discouraging. He is hard to follow and rude. Half the class failed. He is horrible. I needed 0.8 to pass and he didnt even give me that. What a horrible experience. I passed thanks to James Wilson!
He was not helpful at all, unless you were a favorite student of his. I even received an email from another professor who was trying to get him removed. His tests were ridiculously long and detailed, I left each test with a headache and left his class disinterested in my major because of his teaching style and testing methods.
He's by far the least caring of any teacher I've ever had. Most teachers go out of their way to help students outside of class. My observations were that he wouldn't do anything more than he had to. He's also extremely condescending. I have an A, but most other students struggled greatly.
He is the cousin of the chairman of the Board of seletion that is why he is still traumatizing the students some of whom have become a mental wreck. There is no merit rule and punishment for such freaks.
A difficult professor. I liked him, but if you aren't prepared to be dedicated, and I mean hours and hours of study, you will not be successful. This is a majors course, it is supposed to be very difficult, but it is not impossible. Don't take this class unless you are SERIOUS about biology.
Classic higher-ed professor in teaching style and attitude. Your grade is entirely determined by the effort you put into the class. He expects you to take all initiative and study and prepare on your own with little aid outside of lecture. Lab practicals and lecture exams can get lengthy.
This is a majors course, and is very challenging. The tests are very challenging and you will NEED to study very hard. Half knowing will not help you. Dr. Aliaga has a dry and forthcoming sense of humor but can be very funny if you carouse him. Lectures are from power point, all the initiative must come from you. Dont take if not serious.
I am taking this prof now, he is no joke. You dont study or put in 110%, you will fail. You cant just memorize you MUST know concepts from book AND his powerpt slides. He will test over things mentioned in class. so go. More than half the class dropped after 3rd test. I am making a B so far. I study for an A but only making a B. very difficult.
The person who said, "Class is easier than ratings make it out to be and after test 3 the prof shortened tests to 50 and little need to actually study" is A COMPLETE LIE. Tests are way too long for allotted time and the class RAMPS UP in difficulty after test 3. This class is hard multiply it by 10x and that is what you should expect to make an A.
hes not THAT bad of a professor, very dry humor, but he takes teaching very serious, listen to what he advises as a study plan, and take advantage of his office hours, and study hard to get an A! the only people who dont pass this class are the ones that dont study enough. he warns you at the beginning of the course, so its fair game.
I think Dr. Aliaga is funny and knows his Biology, but you have to be serious if you want to pass his class. I'm dropping this class tonight because I can't keep up with him during the summer course. Over 200 questions on exams and a lot of info crammed in 5 weeks. Maybe he'd be OK during a regular semester.
Absolutely the worst professor. He has no passion for teaching, despite his great knowledge of the material. A very skilled Biologist, who is an absolutely terrible teacher. Do not take.
HORRIBLE TEACHER JUST HORRIBLE!! DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS A GOOD SCIENTIST BUT VERY VERY BAD TEACHER! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS TEACHER!! took him during the summer, he hated teaching and had a bad attitude. makes non funny jokes all the time. hard test and are very different from his teachings (lectures/labs).
This teacher is HORRIBLLEE...No doubt he knows what he's talking about..but has a DIFFICULT time bringing it down to the students level.. Only tests!!.. no quizes, extracredit, or hw to bring up your grade. I studied my butt off and managed to pull out with a C-...i would advice you take dr vice or else ur wasting your money
VERY BAD TEACHER!! AND HE HAS A ATTITUDE WHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MATERIAL HE GIVES OUT! DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
GET OUT. DONT JOIN CLASS
Grades come from exams only, minimal bonus pt opp. Very knowledgeable, willing and able to answer any question. Dr. Aliaga will explain any concept until you understand it. If you need bio for a health profession then he's the best. I took 1406/1407 did just fine in both. If you are not serious you might want another campus, NE bio is tough.
Dr. Aliaga was a superb professor as long as you're willing to put forth a bit of effort to study. He gives you a comprehensive list of everything you'll be tested over in great detail at the beginning of the semester as long with all his notes and powerpoint presentations. His class is very indepth, but he makes time to help as long as you ask.
HARDEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!!
Please beware this guy is very difficult to follow.
I had the highest grade in both his lec and lab and only ended up with an 88 for my final grade, and i worked VERY hard for that. He is very confusing, and he never prepared me for a test, a lot of times i'd have to have my test grade corrected because he realized HIS answer on the test was wrong. He was also insulting, on multiple occasions
Aliaga loves to see students fail. He skims a few concepts from each chapter, using disorganized, childish powerpoint presentations from several semesters ago to fill class time. Very unprofessional and demotivating, his tests demand that you fully memorize and understand everything he failed to explain in class... which is pretty much everything.
if you want to pass and never have to take this class again please dont register with this guy i spent almost all my time in reading for his class but still i cant say my grade out lound. he thinks he is teaching grad. school too much info at once and his tests u have less than a min per question. i must say he likes it when his students fail.
A thorough understanding of the material and good study habits won't help you one bit here- nothing makes him happier than failing students... Also, disorganized!!! There are 5 of us left (out of forty) and the highest grade in the class is a C. Yes, it's that bad. STAY AWAY!!!!!!
He's a very thorough teacher. He expects a lot out of you, yes, so you have to be prepared to study outside of class and have the time commitments to prepare for different tests. He is very lenient in my opinion. He gave us extra credit work and showed us the science learning center where we could go in our spare time. He's very funny too.
Make sure you are studying daily for his exams. When he says that you should be studying at least 4 hrs a day he isn't lying. Understanding the big picture won't get you that "A", you have to know the little details too. And make sure you look at the objectives he gives you.
Dr. Aliaga is a tough professor. He loves Biology but has a hard time teaching it so students can understand. You will have to do a LOT of outside studying if you want to pass but you WILL learn biology. He has a bad rep but if you ask for help he will give it to you. I didn't think it was that bad. Just hard. (But I took it during the summer)
Took him for cellular biology in the summer. I DO NOT recommend doing that! Class was tough, he has no emotion for anyone. If I had taken the class in a long semester I might have gotten a higher letter grade. Be warned, this class isn't for the weak. If you want an A, this class will become your main focus. PS, I generally get A's. Good Luck!
SO. MUCH. INFO. if you take him, make sure you have the same lab and lecture class, he would cover one topic then move on and three topics later show us a 30 second video of the original topic and everyone understood what he was talking about, after it was too late....went to tutoring, he didnt show up..
Dr. Aliaga is NOT an easy teacher; he is an informative one, however. He emphasizes in-class discipline and time management, BOTH necessary qualities for future scientists! If you come prepared, if you dedicate the time, AND IF you communicate openly AND OFTEN with him, you'll get the grades. Take him if you're considering a career in Biology.
All he does is read off a power point and his tests are hard.
All he does is read off the power points. If you have a real question, he probably won't actually answer it, just pretend to... If you can answer his questions, he will tell you that you are wrong, then restate your answer. He is rude, demeaning, and treats his students as if he expects us all to fail. I love the subject, hate this teacher.
So many reasons NOT to take this professor.Patronising, demeaning, unhelpful, and unclear. I consider my time in his class a waste and wish I had taken the online course for all the good he was.
Good teacher for lecture, but do not take his lab section. His lab did not even come close to preparing us for the lab practical exam.
You'll be better off reading the textbook by yourself than spending an hour and a half in his class. He passes out a sheet of definitions/questions on it and you work independently during the class period - like high school. On a brighter note, he'll lighten up halfway through the semester when half of the class has dropped.
Prof Aliaga made us work independently through the first 6 chapters of the textbook, saying that class time is our "study time". He didn't even begin lecturing until the last half of the semester (after 20+ students dropped) and even then he would just read off of the powerpoints. Take another instructor if you can help it.
Do NOT take his lecture class. All he does is read off of powerpoints and doesnt go over any definitions which makes it hard to understand. Doesnt even make eye contact with the class and literally is reading his powerpoints. Not helpful at all, your better off taking another teacher/class.
he is a great and nice guy. i like alot of things about him [his strictness]. however BAD TEACHER, NO LOVE FOR STUDENT, NO UNDERSTANDING. IF U DO NOT gifted IN SCIENCE, you might want to take this class in another compus. this the hardest compus and HIS prepare the LAB test for tcc. half of my class drop after the second test.
Took his class in the summer of 2012, Bio for majors 1 and 2. The reviews in many ways are accurate but most of it stems from a difficulty in making biology easy to follow for someone just beginning. However, it was a "for majors" class and anyone signing up for such a course should never be looking for an easy grade. B in both courses, 20+hrs/wk.
Waste of time! He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He could care less if you pass or fail.
This class was such a disappointment. I love Biology but this was HARD! Lecture was a waste of time because you don't understand anything he says. Unless you are just super smart and care about cells, take someone else!
I wish I would have read the reviews before I chose his class. Extremely hard and he is not a professor I would recommend to anyone!! Please take heed and chose another teacher ! Only 16% of the students in my class are passing.
Aliaga is a good teacher depending on what you are expecting. yes it's college and they don't baby you. but He is hard.
I wouldn't recommend taking this course to any one.It is unfortunate that 65% of my fellow classmates dropped the course within the first half of this semester, but the ones, including myself, who decided to stick it through, failed the course. Aliaga expects students to KNOW the material as though this is not the FIRST Biology class we have taken.
Aliaga doesn't really teach. He more or less just stands up there and spews biology without explaining rhyme or reason and then expects you to be proficient. He seems to take a lot of pride in showing students how stupid they are compared to how intelligent he is. Almost any professor would be better.
Aliaga is the worst professor I've ever had. I dropped his class after the first week because he was more interested in spewing his cranky opinions than teaching. For the week that I suffered through I learned absolutely nothing. There's no way you can make an A when all he does is read from the power points. TAKE DR. KINGETER!!!
Horrible teacher. Reads from slides only and expects you to know the material already. Teaches very fast. Makes students feel stupid if they don't know the answer to his question.I had to drop his class along with 3/4 of my classmates to save my GPA. Take someone else!!
I have taken A&P I&II and Microbiology before I took Aliaga's freshman bio 1 class, and made A's and B's in those classes. Aliaga is the worst professor for you biology majors. His exams are not at all close to the exams of other biology professors. I have taken hard classes before and busted my ass and it paid off. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!
He is the worst teacher ever he's awful trust me and I'm a straight a student if you love yourself and your future please don't take him you'll end up regretting it and frustrated trust me.
Worst teacher of all time, will bash on you for no reason if you don't know the material you will look dumb in front of the class. His tests contain 200 characters/question that are paragraphs long. If you have not had any biology experience at all DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL FAIL. I was an A student until I left his class. T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E!
I took him for Lab and thank God I didn't have him for lecture. He is very, VERY picky and he expects you to be an expert Biologist even though this is the first Biology class you've taken. He harks on everyone and constantly refers to his "naughty" list, saying that if you're on it then good luck passing the class. Hardest class I've ever taken.
I would never recommend him,he is the WORST professor. Never helps, Tests are SUPER HARD and he NEVER teaches the class. NEVER TAKE HIM!!!!!
Worst professor I ever had at T.C.C. Treats his students like idiots he is forced to tolerate. Teaches nothing! You are expected to do all the work yourself so why not just take the course online instead--at least you won't have to put up with his better than you attitude.
Worst professor I've ever had. He looks down on you and is extremely rude. He expects you to go to his office and debate every grade he ever gives you. In lab, I was 100% clueless as to what we were supposed to be doing. He just expects you to know.
DIDNT CARE ABOUT WHAT U DO IN THE LAB. SHOW UP TO CLASS AND FOLLOW HIS PATTERN FOR PAPER EASY A MUST RECOMMEND FOR THE LAB
Fun and easy class if you like biology.
One of the worst professors that I have ever had. Does not go by the textbook, despite saying that he does. Tests are incredibly difficult and detailed, despite him saying that tests are over "broad concepts." Will make fun of you if you get an answer wrong in class. Only plus is he is very approachable. Avoid his class if you want to keep 4.0
Overall, this class wasn't all too bad as I had expected. I took him during the second half of summer. His tests are hard, but if you go discuss the answers with him, he may give some points back. He also gives us surprise bonus questions, which aren't really much of a surprise. I recommend doing the chapter objectives and doing a lot of reading.
Friendly advice... Never take this teacher
If you care about your grades and GPA take my advice.. you wont regret it. I like biology and I find it very It's interesting! But Aliaga is the absolute worst professor. There is no way you will get your desired and well earned grade in this class. No matter how much you study.. his tests are so difficult and he even adds trick questions!!
DO NOT TAKE. GPA killer!!! Ive only gotten A's in other class and barley passed this class and put in tremendous amount of time into studying for test. Lab isn't as hard but he grades very strict. Most likely you will make a 30 on your first pre lab check if you take him
If you value your GPA, do NOT take this course. Aliaga is not understanding when it comes to grading and will fail you on almost every assignment without a second glance. When you talk to him after class to earn back points, he refuses to give back more than one or two points. This class is a trap. Don't fall for it! You will not get a single A!
He's pretty much the worst teacher in the history of teaching. Doesn't seem like he cares at all about his students. I don't understand why this dude is still teaching. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Dr. Aliaga is a VERY tough teacher if you are unfamiliar with Biology, at least speaking from his lab. You are required to visit his office to get a grade for the research report drafts you are required to submit. He speaks rather quietly in lab, and overall expects you to know the class and what it entails before you step in. Not recommended.
The thing with Dr. Aliaga's class is, you get as much out of as you put into it. He is very specific about how you should study for his class. If you read ahead and then re-read after class you should be fine. It is all test based, so make sure you study well. He makes students come to his office hours to argue with him about the tests for points.
In all my years as a student, I have never come across such a horrible teacher who gives such little concern about the education of his students. Whenever you ask him questions in private, he scoffs in mockery. Whenever you ask for clearer instructions via email, he ignores the email. It is very apparent that he has much disdain for his profession.
First, let me say that Dr. Aliaga clearly knows the material. His lectures? Horrendous. He speeds though material with the assumption that the students have "already seen the material bc they should have read the chapter". He is occasionally unintelligible bc he speaks very fast. If you have the chance, choose a different prof.
BEWARE!!! He is really too smart to be teaching. He talks so fast you can't understand a word he's saying if you don't already know the material by heart. His labs are self taught and he crams all of the material into 20 minutes of lecture and then you're on your own to figure out the lab material for the final.
Hardest and worst teacher I've had at TCC if I would've know about ratemyprofessor beforehand I would've never taken his class. Started with20 students now theres only 5 and I'm failing no matter how hard I try. I highly don't recommended his class waste of my time and money.
Absolute worst professor I have ever encountered, just doesn't help. Basically you have to teach yourself and he comes off as pretentious.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Expects you to know everything about everything prior to class, and if you ask questions he makes fun of you and belittles you. If you have email him, don't expect a response. If you're late, you're absent. Can't leave for emergency wout getting yelled at. Would highly recommend not to take. Shouldn't be teaching.
Honestly, could not understand him and eventually had to drop him and change to another teacher for lecture. Do not take his lecture class or you will be confused. He expects you to know everything and just reads off his PowerPoints. He makes you feel dumb for answering a question wrong. He spent one whole week on just chapter one in summer school.
I got a B and barely had time to study. He gave 3 easy extra credit assignments worth an exam letter grade each. You !!NEED!! to read the chapter prior to lecture. Go through the slides (online) and watch the video links. Most failed because they failed to do these. He pulls questions from the book unit reviews and off many of the diagrams.
This class was so hard. He reads off of power point presentations and just tells you to read the chapter twice and you should get it. He makes you feel dumb when you ask him questions. I would not take him again. Only take him if you plan on passing the class solely by reading your textbook. And he DOES NOT GIVE extra credit.
First off, this was a VERY difficult class. Aliaga expects you to spend an unreasonable amount of time outside of class studying. However, if you do take his class, you CAN make an A! Write down everything he says in lab, and READ THE TEXTBOOK DO MASTERING BIO for lecture! I took the class over summer while working full time and got an A!
Yes, he makes you work for your grade. I took a summer semester, so we were expected to work outside of class. However, if you keep up with material and ask questions, you will have no problem doing well in the course. He gives extra credit and is more than willing to help you if you just approach him about the material. He is pretty understanding.
I'm actually in shock that he has a C rating, he deserves an F rating. Worst professor ever if you love your gpa dont take him and he's also rude.
If there was an award for least helpful professor, this guy takes the cake. Aliaga was the least helpful teacher I've ever taken before or since.
He is a very hard teacher. He expects an outrageous amount of studying (3-4 hours daily) and he is often rude to students. He encourages you to ask questions but then when you do he makes you seem like an idiot. The only good thing is that he gives a lot of quizzes and the questions always reappear on tests. Don't take unless prepared to fail/study
Not the greatest professor. Lectures are long and he goes off topic. If you want to pass I would highly recommend reading the textbook, he says not to but it will help.
Terrible teacher, the lecture for Anatomy and Physiology was alright.. The lab was on of the worst set ups I have ever seen. Lab was 3 chapters ahead of lecture and you had to turn in homework before class starts. Expected to practically rely on only self study, and graded incorrectly when you had the proper answer because he didn't agree withbook
Professor Aliaga was awful, and this is coming from a 4.0 student who gets along with professors. He marks off TOO many points for little things, he's extremely unhelpful, he ridicules students when they don't answer 100% correctly in front of EVERYBODY, and he is always changing his policies on assignments while being unclear about expectations.
1. He won't let you use the restroom or leave without hating you. 2. He starts class early and ends late, but gets upset if you show up to class on time and/or leaves early cause you have class or other responsibilities. He got upset at our class for needing to leave 10 minutes after class ended. 3. Uploads the homework late then we miss them
Worst professor ever. He's entitled and thinks that he owns us. We aren't allowed to do anything but listen to him. No bathroom, no throwing trash away, etc. He makes it obvious when he doesn't like you. Also, he's so disorganized but expects us to be organized. He uploads homework the morning it's due except no one knows it's due or its uploaded.
Lab practicals are hard enough but he was even a tough grader on the weekly worksheets, have to do it exactly the way he wants or you're wrong.
I don't see how anyone could give this guy a good rating. A professor is supposed to be there for their students and be involved in helping them learn and understand. Professor Aliaga was unhelpful - even during office hours. Very rude. Other teachers have been way more caring. Saying "This is college, get over it" is NOT an excuse for him.
Worst teacher on the planet, very rude and he is not respected by students at all. If you ask a question he will be like "I suggest you read the syllabus/book" what the heck, just answer the question! He thinks he is smart and knows everything, but he doesn't at all, he just reads from his power points, and the exams are different from what says!
Not good with students. Doesn't care about them. Had to meet him always for the correction on graded paper.
Dr. Aliaga definitely makes you work for it but you will absolutely learn stuff in his lectures. The only thing I disliked is that his labs and lectures did not go together so it was almost as if we were taking two separate classes. We were on Plant Phylogeny in lab and Animal Phylogeny in Lec. It was very tough but I overall liked him.
Difficult professor but if you want to learn he will teach you. Too many people drop because it's "hard" and he doesn't baby you. He won't!
If your taking Anatomy to pursue a career in medicine and need an A DO NOT take him. In his lectures he says, "You already learned this." and doesn't go over anything. He says, "You cannot be working full time or taking other classes if you want an A." The work load is impossible and only 2 people passed his midterm. He is rude and does not care.
If you want to pass this class, do not take him. He talks too fast and you cant keep up. He expects you to have all of the learnsmart assignments done before his lecture. He does NOT give study guides and that was a deal breaker for me. If you get stuck taking him, take my advice use the book as much as you can. Its honestly better than lecture!!
This is already a hard enough class, and he doesn't help at all. Lectures are extremely fast. Doesn't give review sheets or extra credit. Expects you to have all learn smarts and quizzes done before he goes over that chapter in class. Lots of reading. Really tough class if first time in college.
Worst teacher I've had yet. He stumbles through his lectures and tries to be funny, but it just doesn't work. Although no homework, his tests are difficult and there is no review. He just tells you to study your book and his slideshows, which are each like 50 long. He's not afraid to fail you and his lab is even worse.
I wasn't able to complete the class but he was understanding about my situation I cant say anything bad about him personally but the homework was damn difficult lol
Dr. Aliaga is amazing BUT he won't give any reviews for the exam or any help on what to study or anything like that for any exam, everything else is great
Could not ask more of Professor Aliaga. He gives clear instructions and guidance. There are no surprises regarding quizzes and tests. It's refreshing to find a professor who is dedicated to their profession and students.
He is very negative if you go see him during his office hours. He will help you learn from your mistakes on your tests.
An incredible professor for lecture, but I didn't like the labs that much, really. I wish the content was more related to the lectures, so it would be easier to understand.
He posts all his materials online. While you'd think this is a blessing, it is a curse. Lecture isn't supposed to be your "first exposure" to the content, something he neglected to tell us until 3/4 through the semester. He seems nice, but will constantly berate your intelligence. I do not recommend this professor unless it's absolutely necessary.
The second time taking his class, and I still didn't pass. He is very disrespectful and not helpful. I regret taking his class again.
He is a terrible teacher, he expects you to know the material after hearing it one time. He will tell one student one thing then turn around and give another student completely different information. Don't go to his office hours for help because he is just gonna confuse you more. Save your GPA and don't take his class.
Do not take this class if you are a full time student and have a full time job. I spent a minimum of 3-4 hours A DAY studying for this class and still had to drop it. He doesn't follow the book and lectures are very hard to keep up with. 35 students were in this class at the beginning of the semester, by the drop date, only 10 students were left.
Don't take the class if you are not up for studying or you expect to be spoon fed everything, biology is a very hard class. At first he seems a bit difficult but if actually go talk to him he will help your grade, and if you stay after tye drop date he gives lots of extra credit and does he's best to get you to pass.
Dr. Aliaga talks very fast and makes tests extremely difficult. He once said in a class that he was smarter than the 11 times revised textbook we were using. He is very smart and is willing to help, but the way he teaches does not appeal to many students. He does not give reviews for tests and his class will require a large amount of studying.
Professor Aliaga is a nice person, but a very difficult teacher. He jumps around from subject to subject, doesn't follow his notes very well and he has NO set test schedule. You can ask him when a test will be, but he will not give you any information. He will only tell you about a 2-3 days before the exam. Again, nice person, but too difficult.
Just take his class
An okay class but not very inspiring. He tends to run off his train of thought a lot. Tests are decently tough but the labs are the hardest portion of the course. Not bad overall, but you can learn just as much from a textbook.
His teaching style is HORRIBLE, and hes extremely inconsistent. This was basically a self-taught class. Sometimes there's curves, so that was nice. I studied my face off (avg 30hrs/week) and I'll be thanking my lucky stars if I squeek out an A.
Dr. Aliaga is smart and funny. Gives lots of extra credits. Have 87, he gives you an "A". Read the textbook and his powerpoints, you will be fine. Have a problem with the study? -talk to him, he'll help. Gives short midterm/final lab quizzes before the event so you know what to expect on exams. A ton of helpful information. You will learn.
He is a good teacher, just different. This is a college first of all, not a daycare. The A&P subject is difficult and takes a lot of studying, does not matter who is your teacher. My advice, change your major if you are looking for an easy road. Do you want to learn? Take him and you will. His teaching will save you from trouble in the future.
This professor was not a tough grader and in fact, his tests were very straight forward. He made his own notes for us to use and the tests were based from that. His lectures are hard to follow because he doesnt really teach on a level for us to understand. But I witnessed several students treating him terribly which says a lot about them, not him.
He is a VERY intelligent man but, he speaks at that high level of intelligence. Rather than speaking like a professor to students who are trying to learn this new material. As a person he is a good guy, as a prof get someone else. He gets into some extreme detail about the material and isn't super clear on what you should really study.
Dr. Aliaga is an interesting character. Many would describe him as a tough teacher, but really he wants you to apply yourself. He gives you all the resources you need, but expects you to work for it. Sometimes his lectures can be a little disorganized, but overall he explains things well. His tests can be a little too long. I would take again.
If his instructions aren't clear do not be afraid to ask questions because he WILL help, even though he can be extremely patronizing. The best thing you can do for yourself is read the chapter, reread, and read again. Which is exactly what he wants. Stay in lab as long as you can, visit the SLC as much as possible and you will pass.
Dr. Aliaga is good at what he does. Teaching online classes is new for him, but he's quickly learning how to keep his students engaged. Although exams are based on notes, some test questions will require critical thinking. If you want a good grade, you'll need to work for it.
Pacing is all over the place, this was a 10 week course with 5 test, only 1 in the first 5 weeks then the other 4 in the next 5 weeks. He has no clear schedule or plan for quizzes or test and makes it all up as he goes along. All resources provided are very unhelpful. Syllabus is years old and not updated. You'll have no idea what your grade is.
For Fall 2020, attending lectures was not mandatory; chapter quizzes had unlimited attempts and used a 12 point grading scale. His lectures can be boring sometimes, but overall he is a pretty nice guy. Tests are 100 questions, and he rips them from Mastering A&P. A&P is hard, so get really to study for hours. This class is not easy.
Anatomy and physiology is a lot of information to soak in, be ready to read and review. I had Aliaga ONLY for the Lab part. His lab packets, VB assignments, and quizzes will help you practice for the exams. The course is easier if you get Aliaga ONLY for lab and lecture with another. We all miss being on campus. #vaccinated
He is the WORST professor I've ever had. He assigns work that is due the very next day of class. He takes off points for every little thing. His class is impossible to pass. If you are struggling with bio, he won't even bother to help you out, even if he clearly sees you are putting in effort. You will REGRET taking any class with this guy!!!!!!
Ill give him credit for the anatomy part because I took this class online, his packets and lectures were on point especially his review quiz. However, for physiology, it was a lot of info to take in along with new vocab and 100 question lecture exams, no review. It was hard to follow along and understand and he would say yall should know this.
I swear this guy gave me trauma. Horrific teacher. His Powerpoints are 200+ long and are sent straight from the textbook publisher. His exams pull the most obscure stuff from the book. His teaching doesn't make sense. If you don't read every single line of text from the book you'll fail. I had to study 7+ hours a day. He took every Q as an insult.
He was a nice guy but MAN! His tests were 100 questions and his powers points were soooooo long! You honestly dont even need the book because his lectures are basically 100+ slides straight from the book! Sometimes when people would ask a question he would be sarcastic and seem like he would belittle you in front of the whole class
He will "tell you everything you need to know". He will read word for word and say "you should know this from high school" and skip slides. In the lab you will have worksheets that you need to have finished before the lab while studying for a test with material from last week. Would not take unless you already know A&P and just need the credit.
I took his class for Fall Semester. His lecture is a lot but whenever you have a test, you have a review 2,3 days before. He gives you extra credit on the test. 100 questions on the test but you already know 20-40 questions if you join to the review day (online) The quizzes so easy to do, and the visible body so easy too.
he was very difficult to learn from. all he does is read from a powerpoint, and then expects you to know everything once he's done talking. his lecture exams, he gives no review for it. also his exams, are 75 questions, sometimes more. you basically teach yourself in this class.
I took his class as a retake and found his class much easier than how my university professors presented it. It is definitely NOT a slack off class and the information is rigorous but he gives multiple resources to succeed and make in A in his class, its just up to how much time you are willing to devote to studying outside of class.
This class is not for the weak
I took his A+P 1 in fall of 2023, and he had to be the worst choice. He reads off his PowerPoints during every lecture and lab giving no to little background. By the end I was literally skipping lectures and just answering the learning goals out of the textbook since that's all he did in class. He actually fell asleep during one of our lab quizzes.
Point blank terrible.I had a problem with my lock down browser and asked for help and said“that's a you problem”, and I found out how to get it to work after 30 mins.He expects you to learn from him talking and being rude.He likes to show off if you ask a question that “you should know”. So it's better to bite your tongue than waste your breath.
I took him for the fall semester of 2024. He does not give reviews for exams, skips chapters in notes saying "go over it in your own time", and the exams are extremely hard to study for. I have a B in this class so far, but only because I remember material from past science classes. Lab can be hard, and exams are difficult- would not take again.
About the people who complain, they just don't know how to study. He gives all resources needed and gives out “Study Objectives” and Lecture Quizzes that are similar to questions on Lecture Exams. Use Dynamic Study Module on Pearson and you'll get 90s on all exams. Lab is easy, all memorization and he gives you quizzes that are EXACT to the exams.
I took Dr. G in the fall and he was great! He has a clear syllabus & grading criteria & even cuts you some slack by making an 88 & above an A in his class. It is a challenging class if you don't pay attention or don't study outside of class. Dr. G did a great job at providing study material and reviews, you have to be willing to put in the work!
Good class overall. The quizzes and materials that he provides are clear, easy to study and exactly what you will be tested on. Lectures are long and a lot of slides but he stays on topic the whole time. He also dropped our 2 lowest quizzes and 2 lowest exams so that was amazing.
Great teacher! Very knowledgeable! He gives you all the material you need to succeed it's what you put into it! Work hard & study!
I loved him! He was so nice to the class, and he would make jokes. He
I loved him! He was ve
He was so nice and funny! He does read off the lecture slides most of the time, but if you ask questions he will answer them with good explanations. The class it self was a lot of memorizing. Be prepared to study outside of class. I would take him again!!
This class is mostly him talking the entire time, but if you take good notes, you'll be fine. There are about five tests total, each with around 80 questions. During tests, he just sits up front and lets everyone focus—no distractions. Stay on top of note-taking, and you'll be able to pass.
He provides everything you need to succeed. Do the lab hw assignments over & over to do well on the lab quizzes/exams. Lecture can seem overwhelming but he provides prerecorded lectures that helped me for studying. He wasn't the most engaging professor but my class was really dead most of the time so he probably wasn't thrilled about being with us.
