He's hard but he knows what he's talking about. He will get you if you plagiarize so watch out! You have to work for the grade. But in the end you will be glad you had him!

Tests are Fill in the Blank, Short Answers, and short Essay. Class is hard, however you will learn a ton after it's all said and done. Very Funny, and if you're lucky he'll rap some Eminem for you.. :)

Great teacher! Very enthusiastic about the subject, and makes it accessable and fun. Essays were graded to a high standard; it took effort to get a good grade, but I feel that his criticism made me write better.

THE BEST hum instructor I've had so far~very enlightening. He lectures, draws hilarius pictures, shows slides and plays music & movies. He's a medievalist & teaches VERY well. If you take his class you will enjoy it. Try your best and you can get an A =)

Dr Brookes hates lazy work and he'll tell you all about it. Mood depends on how long it took him to park that morning. Makes you work, makes you think. Study the handouts and you'll do well. Only 2 tests. He Looks like Jesus and hates peanut butter.

I have taken Brooks more than once. He is a hardass, but he knows his stuff. Pay attention to the lectures, which really do apply to the subject at hand. I don't think he is too hard at all-he just expects that you should get your money's worth...STUDY.

Very Cocky. Wonderful lectures, very interesting class. Mostly about religion. It's a shame that the class I learned the most in, I passed with a C. He has very high expectations. He failed all of my papers, and I passed CompI and II w/ an A.

Of course he's cocky, he's good. He lays it out for you, no M.C. tests, so if you know it and can wing it your in for most of grade. We had one project on architecture and was very fun. You can't beat a good teacher, even if he is a bit difficult.

Brook is an ok prof. His class however is hard as hell. There are no multiple choice questions on any of his tests so if you dont know your stuff you are done for.Obsessed with religion, he thinks he's some kind of religious guru. If you work hard though you will make it out alive

Brooks puts the beat down on any student who is not serious about college. Out of 25 students there is about 9 left this semester. Do not take his class if you are not ready to get worked. If you like pain and knowledge, he is the man...

I loved this class. It was hard, but I learned more in his class than in any of my classes at Valencia. He does not lecture by book, but throws in tons of extra information. Funny as hell. TAKE NOTES WHATEVER YOU DO!!!! Be prepared to write a lot of essays!! Studying is not an option.

Awesome professor. Didn't assign much work at all. Tests were easy. Profided study guides. Hight suggest taking this teacher. Actually made humanities fun.

He is very wise and his class is super interesting. He is tough on grading but he is well worth it. You must be willing to dedicate some time to this class. Take alot of notes because the tests ALWAYS come from the notes. He has a great sense of humor.

Offers absolutly the easiest classes at Valencia, take home tests with tons of extra credit, no more than 2 one page essays in which he barely even corrects, field trips and tons of movies, if you want an "A" take this class...He gives them out like candy....only complaint he was too easy :)

I took his class several years ago. Thanks go to Brooks for all he taught me. One of the few who requires excellence from his students and grades accordingly. If you don't care what you learn and just want a good grade with little work, avoid him. If you want to learn, he is the professor.

If you think Brooks grades hard, you shouldn't be in college. Period. He's an awesome professor, and he's only rude to slackers that don't expect to do any work. And yeah, he shouldn't be teaching at VCC, he should be at FSU so I can take more of his classes.

Absolutely love his class. I recommend him to anyone, ESPECIALLY those who don't think they will like Humanities (I knew I would, but as Brooks says, I am in a small group known as Supernerds). Brooks is a true educator; he consistently finds unique ways to teach material that might otherwise fly over the heads of most 20-year-olds. I learned so much in this class! He can be hard as hell, and does have a temper, but it's so worth it. He’s so entertaining, you will NOT want to miss one class; what's more, you will become a better writer!!

George Brookes is one of the most interesting professors ive ever had. He was alot of fun, you learned alot of if you study, and pay attention you will do fine. I know i will be taking another one of his classes in the future.

He is a great professor. He has a laid back teaching style and is really funny. His tests can be hard-I've only seen fill in the blank and short answer, but if you take good notes and go to class you should do OK. Make sure you pay attention to spelling b/c he marks you down for it.

Took him last spring - now I tend to compare other profs with him. At first he can seem scary, but he's very understanding if he knows you're really trying. His teaching methods FORCE you to learn, & learn you will! He's funny, and loves dogs. He sings, raps, brings action figures to enhance learning, and has a deep, resonant voice. I miss him.

The best professor. His classes are very fun, not a single person left early or looked at the clock to see when the class is over. He gives a lot of handouts, not too much of homework, you almost never use the book. Tests are hard but he gives extra credit. If you listen to him in class and do your assignments, you'll do just fine. GREAT PROF!

Valencia couldn't ask for a better teacher... too bad he is way above the level of an average community college student and belongs in an University. Be prepared to take fill in the blank exams on general information without spelling errors and in class essays.

I took Renaissance Reformation and Baroque. He doesnt belong in a community college, he expects wayyy too much. He makes students feel below him and like they are not trying at all. Dr. Brooks is extremely tough. I am an Honors student and still found his class to be very tough. Expect to spend many hours writing essays and doing research. That being said, he will teach you to think critcally and hopefully pursue knowledge for your own enlightment. I will take him again when I have an easier course load. TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH.

For all of those of you out there saying things like, "You never know whats on the test" Thats a load of crap. He goes over it and gives you a review sheet. One thing i liked about Brooks was that he was very clear about what he was talking about. if you asked a question, he would answer it and not just give you some jumbled up hunk of info. instead he would give you a precise overview of what you were asking and details about it. class was intresting and not to much work but definitly study 4 test

Favorite class..Really interesting lectures, make me actually want to study the subject. He is very easy to understand, I withdrew from a philosophy class in highschool because i was doing so poorly and just could not grasp the concepts. However I fully understood those concepts after just a few weeks in this class.

Great professor. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and makes it interesting. He is also really funny and makes the class laugh out loud often. He keeps the class until the very last minute and even a little longer sometimes, but its worth it. You will definitely learn something, but you do have study and take notes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Best Professor in Valencia!! He can make even the dullest subject interesting. One of the most memorable moments was the Final Exam at the end of his Intro to Humanities Class. I have taken him twice for Humanities and absolutely LOVED him. He is very wacky and demands respect, but is the coolest teacher I've met thus far.

Don't know why people are so down on Doctor Brooks. I took two of his classes (including the bible class-Late Roman and Medieval Humanities). He is the best!! So interesting, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. I am a female and I do not recall him EVER being degrading or sexual during class. He did not mock the bible-he expalined his view.

Great teacher who gives great and entertaining lectures. Youll find yourself not wanting to leave the classroom sometimes but sometimes you have no choice but to stay because he might keep you late. If your a honors student he'll expect alot more from you. Tests are easy to study for but still a bit tricky and he's very strick on grading papers.

Dr. Brooks is not a ?great? teacher. He is belittling and insulting. He is unprepared and unorganized. When grading he gives stars. It?s hard to have an idea of your grade at any one time. Take ENC1102 before taking his class. He expects college level papers from you and expects you to analyze subjects yourself. He can be a bit harsh at times but he's a great teacher and I'm very happy I took his class. Remember Humanities is about art and ideas not just history!

I took him for a Greek & Roman humanities class last spring. He was great, entertaining, very funny, and had great ways of approaching things so they stuck. Professor Brooks is AMAZING. His lectures are extremely interesting, gives you work but it's worth doing it. His Logic unit was the most difficult and tedious at times, but it teaches you a lot and helps you beyond the class. You don't use the book too much, if you go to class you learn everything you need to know.

It definitely is not an easy class, but it is quite fun and interesting! I loved the class. You do have to participate and do all the projects. You must also keep an open mind for this class. All in all, the class was enjoyable, he made it fun to learn about the Medieval era (which is his passion), and the info has stuck with me still.

Brooks is an extremely hard professor and you will have to work your ass off to get an A, which I barely got. However, to think that what you will learn in this class has no meaning or use is extremely insulting to the humanities. I learned A LOT in this class and you will too if you put the effort in. Professor Brooks challenges existing beliefs, and is without a doubt the most intellectually stimulating professor I have ever taken a course with. I have referred several people to take his course and each person agreed that he was inspiring. As a warning this isn't an easy professor. He will expect you to think, and to write at a college level.

Dr. Brooks is a wonderfully insightful and dedicated professor. After spending many years at UCF I long for the days of taking his final exams that consisted of drawing yourself in different art forms/periods. He is one of those teachers who sticks in your mind because of his intensely interesting lectures and wonderfully "kookie" personality. I received nothing but high marks in his class because I WORKED for it. He was nothing but patient and kind with his students.

I find it most humorous, reading all the comments that Dr. Brooks grades too harshly. Once you apply for grad school or get a job it becomes clear that passing one of his exams or writing an appropriate essay is the least of your worries. The real world is far more frightening. Many great teachers choose to teach at community colleges because they too started there and firmly believe it is not "beneath" them to do so. There are wonderful teachers at all college levels...not all are teaching doctorate classes. Thankfully, some choose to meet us half way.

This guy is great. Very tough if you take no interest in what he is telling you but its hard not to be intrigued. I can see why people don't like him but the man knows his stuff and he communicates it in a way that is different and interesting. I had him for intro and he completely opened my eyes to Art History which is now my major. Thanks George

I just wish he would start the class on time and end on time. He is great otherwise. But he seems to get a kick going over time and students not noticing, he says its because his lectures are so fun students don't realize we've gone over. However I am late every time to the class I have after him. Ugh! I wish he would see this. I feel bad and I can't tell him. Doesn't he see we have other classes! His class always runs 10-15 min over!

Dr. Brooks is very educated in the field. Those who choose to comment negatively on this page about him are looking for those hand out A's. I do not believe he considers himself "high and mighty" just because he has a PhD. I think its quite humble of him to share his knowledge with students who are restricted to a community college.

I didn't need Intro but had to take it cuz it was LinC w/ my ENG. I had no interest & was not pleased about it, but Brooks really changed my mind. He's a great, very knowledgeable prof. He requires you to learn Logic & rarely uses txtbk. Class usually runs 10-15min late, so don't get a class right after. He also cares a lot about his students.

Late Roman/Medieval with Dr. Brooks.. knows his subject WELL. He engages with students and gets them involved. Yes, I thought I was a good writer when I started this class; his grading does suggest otherwise, but if you have half a brain, an open mind, and a willingness to work, learn and grown, you will love this class.

you work harder in this class but you learn a ton. He is so interesting and I hated humanities before this class. Easily my favorite class of the semester, I'm taking him for other humanities classes too. Definitely dont use your phone in class though.

Dr. Brooks is an excellent professor who obviously has a passion for the material as well as teaching. He's not an easy professor, but legitimately wants to see his students succeed and doesn't have a problem being tough when he needs to be. His classes are fun, but challenging. You will learn quite a bit.

Dr. Brooks is a no excuses kind of guy. Do your homework and don't have excuses if you don't. He will give an attitude if you come up with excuses. Do the work and you will succeed in this course. He grades essays in a way to improve you, not in a way to make you feel like a poor writer. Have an open mind and be willing to academically grow.

What can I say about Dr. brooks? Well for starters he is AMAZING! He was one of the best professors that I ever had. He made the class interesting, improved my writing skills and he definitely knew his stuff. I got an A+ in the class and people who dislike home are closed minded and lazy. Love you Dr. brooks!

Dr. Brooks is an amazing prof. He is passionate about HUM & works to expand the minds of his students. Yes, the workload is a bit much, but it is for your own benefit. He is tough on grading essays only to improve writing skills, which will def help you throughout college. Very interesting material, NOT based on opinion. Open-mindedness required.

With Brooks, there's no in between. You either love or hate the man. I'm going into my 3rd class w/ him. Intelligent & passionate. Maybe doesn't realize not everyone has the same passions. Also assigns a LOT of work, but I took him for Honors, so maybe less for normal classes. Also, we had a 3hr+ final w/ 3 short answers & a 3 page essay.

Prof. Brooks is very intelligent and passionate about Humanities. His lectures are interesting and thought-provoking. If you are lazy or intellectually close-minded, skip this prof. This is not an easy A class, you have to work for an A, as the class requires you to think critically about the material. I highly recommend this Prof. to my peers.

Loved his class. Buy HIS* book not the $100 one. We learned Logic in his class and I thought it was very relevant. He is very passionate, helpful, intelligent and sarcastic. Some students hate him because his assignments are too "hard." Just do the work, pay attention and go to class. simple as that. I received an A.

BEST TEACHER EVER. His class isn't easy, but you will actually learn in this class. He is inspiring, very intelligent and makes you think. His class is not boring at all. All teachers should teach the way he does. Also, don't buy the new version of the humanities book.

Dr. Brooks is the most amazing professor ever! He actually wants you to learn, and teaches beyond the text book. Thanks to Dr. Brooks my writing improved, and I discovered my love for history and religious studies. He won't "give" you an A, YOU have to earn it. Love you Dr. Brooks!

Awesome taste in music, which he plays before class everyday. Totally willing to talk with you and help any student one on one. Easily one of my favorite professors.

Doctor Brooks is not a professor to take if you are looking for a repeat high school class. If willing, you can learn so much in his class and his work load is set to help you maximize content. He is available to help, just ask. There are so many complaints on here that are unjustified. Loved him and wish I could take more classes!

No textbook, very little hw. Piece of cake exams if you study minimally. Brooks is a born educator. He knows which parts of his course are difficult and how to teach them properly so his students don't get lost. He gives the best analogies of anyone I know. He does come off a bit pretentious and it rubbed me the wrong way sometimes.

He will tell you (repeatedly) throughout the semester that he will make you a better reader and writer (unfortunately its true). His grading is harsh and there's a LOT of reading but its a really fun and interesting class to take. Its definitely meant as an upper level humanities class. Oh, and if your from Bithlo be strong or don't take his class.

You will learn so much. Pay attention. He creates the book that is required for the course. Seriously the best Professor I have EVER had. I moved back home to hawaii but if I was still in Valencia I would take his class again. Take his course!

DO NOT TAKE IF YOUR FAITH IS WEAK! He will make comments about the bible that with shake your faith, I just had to run to my pastors a few time with questions lol. He can come off as a jerk at times but deep down I think he is a nice guy. He is super smart but can make you feel dumb at times. If you want to LEARN take him. Interesting lectures

Professor Brooks was an amazing professor in my eyes. No I didn't end up with an A but I passed the class. He kept each class very interesting and he is very passionate about what he is teaching. If you don't have strong writing skills I wouldn't recommen this as your first class with him because he expects college level work with every assignment.

Dr. Brooks is an excellent professor. Yes, I received a C. However I have never felt so accomplished after receiving an average grade, and I would definitely take him again. I would listen to him lecture for hours because of the passion he has for the subject he is teaching. Not to mention he was very easy on the eyes!

Yes, Dr. Brooks actually assigns homework and expects you to be prepared for class, just like an average professor. You will have to do some work. This is college, not high school. What sets him apart from other instructors is that he genuinely wants to prepare his students to survive college for 4+ years. You will gain a lot from his class.

I have taken Dr. Brooks three times and this one was my favorite. Since medieval history is his specialty he is especially passionate teaching this course. Dr. Brooks was the most amazing teacher I have ever had and is so funny. He makes the lectures interesting as well. A tough grader, but "that's what you paid for." I suggest you take him if you want an interesting class!!

Lectures are always really interesting and everyday never seems boring. Make sure you do the homework or you wont pass the quizzes or exams. TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE THINGS!! He's really funny and ties in current day events into his lectures and examples. All in All I would take another one of his classes again!

Prof. Brooks has by far been the toughest professor I have taken. He is very inspirational, funny, and knows exactly what he is talking about, but you better STUDY your butt off if you want any chance at passing. Everything in the tests has to be so detailed(not mult. choice)Take him for a real challenge, not for procrastinators or lazy mindsets!!

Honestly he is one of the best Professors I have ever encountered. All of his mean comments on your papers, are really helpful tips. Tips that allow you to fix your writing mistakes, and will prepare you for post graduate classes. Take his class, and better yourself to become the best student you can be.

I just finished my second semester with Dr Brooks as my professor and once again, I am extremely pleased with his quality of teaching and course content. He makes his classes interesting and fun because he is very passionate on the subject. A few of his assignments allow you to express your own creativity, including the final project.

If you take Dr. Brooks, prepare to read, write, study, show up, and participate in lectures. His lectures are great and he's clearly passionate. He'll open your mind and actually teach you. But he is a tough grader and his exams are fill in the blank. We mainly used his Reader; I used the textbook maybe once, and it probably wasn't necessary.

I took Intro Into Humanities online. His instructions are clear and he is very motivational. If you have a question or concern he gets back to you asap. He is so nice and respectful. I 10/10 recommend him. If you took AP World History in high school, you will be well prepared for this class. He helps you succeed just stay up to date and participate

Brooks is an AWESOME professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and he expects students to care about their work, which, come on. It's college. You SHOULD care about your work. He will teach you how to write a competent college paper if you don't know how to do so. This is not a hard class at all if you actually put the work in.

Professor Brooks is the best English teacher I have ever had. In high school I struggled with English. It was an easy class as long as the assignments and readings were done. He took time outside of class to individually go over our paper. I would recommend Professor Brooks!

Dr Brooks is a great professor, he cares about students learning and he makes you work which for many means tough grader or mean, tbh he just wants student to do their best, if you are goin to take him do not pay attention to the bad reviews, just be prepare to do actual work and learn a lot.

I really enjoyed taking Professor Brooks' class. It was work-heavy and he made you work for your grade but all-in-all I really enjoyed his class. I believe that if he sees you putting in the effort and sharing an interest in the subject, you'll be golden. I took his class as a freshman and it was a junior-senior level class and I was fine!

Dr. Brooks was overall a solid teacher-think standard college professor. Some of his feedback on my papers was frustrating in that it felt a bit condescending, but the class itself was interesting (I took intro to humanities). Overall not bad, do the work to his standards and turn it in on time and you'll be fine.

Although he was a tough grader & there was quite a bit of homework, it was doable. He was a great teacher and I enjoyed learning from him. he provides all the reading for the homework.

If you're a nerd for philosophy and history like I am, take Dr. Brooks. He had amazing lectures and was really funny, a professor that totally makes you think.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this class if you're looking to breeze through without much thought or effort. He has standards when it comes to essays and his exams are a little tough. That being said his lectures are both entertaining and highly informative, making this class my personal favorite for the semester.

I'm writing this perspective from the stance of a student who is no longer in college. Dr. Brooks was one of my first professors. When I look back, he is one of the best educators I have ever had. Very funny guy, I heavily enjoyed his class! Very strict on how homework and tests are thought but I'd take him again if I got the chance :) Also there's not much homework given.

Was he a great professor? No. Was he a bad professor? No. He is funny, though. Deep down, it feels like he is actually a good person. INCREDIBLY tough grader. He would demand even the smallest things from us. But I did like his class. If you wanna learn some interesting stuff, he is a good professor. If you want an easy A, don't choose him.

Pretty alright guy, He's lectures are entertaining, to say the most. He's really tough with grading though, had to lose sleep trying to get HIS ideal answering format down.
