He wants his students to succeed, so he takes his time on the material in his lectures. I suggest to attend every class, take good notes, and complete the review before each test. These reviews are closely related to the department final and as with all math classes practice, practice, and practice.
Really good teacher who actually cares and wants to help you understand the material. If you have a choice I would say take him over anyone else.
Buch is really a great professor. Best one I've had at UNLV. Always helps his students out and wants them to succeed. If you want to pass math, make sure you get this guy.
Good professor, but it's a lot of material- be ready to study alot.
Wow not enough can be said about how great of an instructor George is. Math is by far the worst subject for me and he made all the difference. Made tough concepts so much easier to understand. If you study the way he tells you to then you will be fine. He's great at what he does because he loves what he does and you can tell he loves teaching.
George is an amazing teacher. He truly cares for your success. If you can, TAKE HIM!! He really does help you understand concepts and more importantly gets you ready for the math department final.
Buchanan is an amazing math teacher. He saved my semester. Absolutely. I would recommend him to eeeeveryone. He's personable and explains things clearly. If you can, get him as your teacher.
Mr. Buch always made time to meet with me to help me go over problems I didn't understand. His lectures were very informational with good examples. He is by far one of the best professors I've taken in my college career.
George is a devout instructor and does what he can to help out his students. Highly, highly recommend to attend all of his lectures because he elaborates on difficult topics rather clearly!
Buch is the best math professor I've ever had. His lectures are clear, to the point, very informative. He is very easy to understand and explains things very well. If you have trouble and math or it confuses you I highly recommend taking his class. If I had the chance I would definitely take him again. Passed the class and loved his joke of the day
George is an amazing instructor. I was very anxious returning to math after such a long break, but he really made things clear for me. He provided any help I needed, and he has a way of explaining things that is unparalleled to any other math instructor I have previously studied under. If you want to actually learn math, this is your guy!
Amazing teacher. When you take this class, you WILL learn. Participate and do the homework. He will push you to know the material. I haven't had a teacher as dedicated to have me learn than him. He is amazing, funny, and brilliant. Loves the Broncos and crossfit. Totally approachable. Take this guy if you want to learn.
He always had these different mnemonic ways to memorize the equations and theories. He is always there to help his students and he genuinely wants you to succeed.
Buch was an amazing professor and I wish I had the chance to take him for my other math courses. He truly takes the time for every individual to learn the material! Buch was definitely the best professor I have had thoughout college so far!
George genuinely cares about teaching and getting his students to understand the material. He knows how to teach to a students perspective and is easy to relate to. I would reccomend George Buch to anyone taking math
George is a great teacher! I honestly think he's the best math professor at UNLV. He does whatever he can for his students to help them to pass. He breaks down the concepts so they are easy to understand, but just like any hard math class, you have to want to learn because it is not an easy A.
Quite possibly the best math teacher I've ever had, in college or otherwise. He is a very down to earth guy, and as a teacher, he gives respect rather than just demanding it of his students. He genuinely cares about all his students.
George made this class not hell, made the material clear as he could and took time for clearing up any confusion (he could literally see when someone was lost and would occasionally ask what they needed help with). Math 127 sucks, but it wasn't terrible with George, great teacher that actually seemed to care if we were learning his material.
Mr. Buch gives you more than enough tools you need to pass this class. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He truly cares about his students and ultimately the grade you get depends on how much effort you put in. He is a must take math teacher compared to all the other teachers at UNLV and overall an awesome person.
i love this class
Math 127 is a hard class so dont expect any professor will make it an easy A. I took him at UNLV and although it is a hard class, he made it as easy as he could. He was very helpful, tests were just like the reviews, and it seems like he really cares if his students pass. Would take again!
George is the best professor I have ever had at UNLV. I took Math 127 once before and failed but I am so glad that I got him the second time around. He could not have been more helpful. He did his best to teach you, unlike the other TA's at UNLV who don't care at all. Definitely recommend!
Professor Buch is an amazing teacher. His explanations are clear and he doesn't mind answering questions. He makes himself available for any students wanting extra help and I definitely took him up on it. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to love math as much as he does. I think that's what makes him a great professor.
The best professor ever. I love the way he teach making Math more simple.
George really cares about his students' success in this course.
Great teacher! He literally teaches you step by step. Constantly reminds you any important details. And is always willing to help if you need it. I've had him for 3 years and if he taught my other math classes is take him again. Honestly a great teacher that wants you to succeed!
Really cool guy. Tests were rather difficult but Buch was always there to help out if things were harder to understand. I would take him again for all my math courses if I could.
HE was a very helpfull in getting you to understand the concepts.
George, Great teacher . Course is not easy , you have to work hard but he is there to help you . He also assigns extra credit questions on exam which basically elevates the grade , very nice . Well, he is just helpful and nice teacher.
Very flexible and support more than happy to help outside of class
Very helpful, and cares if you learn! Best teacher I've had in college
I like the flip class that he is teaching right now. When you go to class he go over homework that you struggler. He give chances to improve your grades. Gives extra credit. He is very clear and flexible. Approachable and very friendly.
He is very helpful. He makes sure we understood the material before he goes on to the next one. He doesn't get mad even if there is too much questions... he tried to answer every question a student had. He is very clear but for someone who really doesn't understand math so easy no worries becoz he taught it slowly and repeatedly.
George taught the material in a way that was interesting, and more importantly, he prepared you for the final exam. One could definitely learn much from George.
I would not have made it through math if it were not for George. He did a great job of preparing me for upper division classes. He's so approachable and tells you on day 1 that "I'm here for you" and he sticks to that. His main concern is the success of his students.
This professor is amazing ! He explains things clearly, has patience knows what he is talking about and actually cares about his students I cannot recommend a better teacher than him
Great professor that cares! He wants his students to succeed but you have to put the work in. He can only lead you to water. Definitely would recommend.
It is not an easy class, but he breaks down hard topics into their basic parts and is very clear in his examples. He comes to class prepared with completed example problems. He is clear on what he expecting from you and what you can expect on tests. I recommend doing the odd problems in the book (not required) for extra practice. He's just awesome.
If you have to take a math class at UNLV, I suggest you take it from George. He comes to every class prepared and clearly outlines the topics he is going to cover. He takes the concepts and breaks them down so they are more easily understood. He lets you know exactly what to expect and is there with help for any questions. Asset to UNLV for sure.
George is one of the best math teachers you could have at UNLV or period. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand and is always willing to help you. He truly cares about his students, is patient, and wants them to succeed. You can do extremely well in this class if you are willing to pay attention, practice, and use the tools he provides.
The class isn't easy but he teaches the class as best he can. He is always available for help. Definitely best teacher I've had at unlv.
Flipped classroom for 127. Make sure this is what you want. Gives us a joke of the day every class. Very enjoyable. But to succeed you need to watch the videos and study.
Out of all the math teachers I have had at UNLV, George is by the far the best. He truly cares if his students well. He did a flipped classroom this semester which made learning the material not only easier, but quicker as well. If you have to take Math 127, take him.
I got a D in both Math 126 and Math 127 the first time I took them with questionable instructors. Retook both courses with George, and got an A both times. George is undoubtably the best instructor I've ever had at UNLV. He really does care about his students, and it makes a difference. If you have the chance to take him, do it.
I loved this class. He was very helpful and explained everything thoroughly. He cares about whether or not his students pass and makes an effort to make sure you understand every concept. I would definitely recommend his class.
Never had a teacher/professor care so much about my grade. Flipped classroom (lecture videos and homework at home, homework review in class) helps A LOT. Homework is online. He is crystal-clear when explaining the concepts. He provides shortcuts where possible to make things easier to remember and understand. Overall a great, humorous professor.
George is by far the best math teacher I've ever had, he truly is an amazing professor. I really enjoyed his flipped classroom because you can watch the videos he posts whenever you want for extra clarification. George truly cares about the success of his students. I would highly recommend him to any student, especially those who struggle is math.
He tried a new teaching technique with us, the "flipped classroom" . It was really helpful. We saw the lectures at home and then we would go over any homework we did not understand. He gives study guides that mirror the test. We go over the test the next day. The tests were really similar to the final exam. Really funny guy and helpful.
I took his flipped classroom style Math 127 class. His testing methods don't work with everyone. He focuses to heavily on students passing the final exam by giving exam questions that are as difficult as the final on his regular exams. He cares more about obtaining the correct numbers on exam q's than giving credit for doing the process correctly.
Funny teacher, great personality. However, I hate his form of teaching. He teaches the "flip classroom style" where you go home and watch the lectures on youtube and go to class to catch up on homework. The subject is difficult and I have a hard time learning with this class style. No popquizzes, no extra credit.
Took him for MATH 127 a year ago. He is an amazing teacher and really cares if the students are learning. You can tell he loves what he does. The subject matter can be hard but he is there to help and his explanations are very good. He is a fair grader. Just go to class, do the HW, and study and you'll pass.
I took George for 127 and it was one of the best math classes I've ever taken. He does teach in a flipped format so know upfront if you're not good at doing homework, this probably isn't the class for you. He takes the time to go over any questions you have. Attendance is not mandatory but if you do expect to pass, show up to class.
George uses a great technique of a flipped classroom style. He is so helpful and is always willing to give extra help if you need it. Trig was like a foreign language to me at the beginning of the semester but now, I ended up with a 88 on the final and an A overall. Please do yourself a favor & take him if you want to succeed in a math class.
Great professor! Recommend anyone to take him. Truly cares that his students pass & understand the material. Prepares you for exams by giving study guides that resemble the exam & even goes over them in class! Even lets you use a cheat cheat page on exams! Watch the YouTube lectures, go to class, do your homework & study guides & youll pass. Simple
George sincerely cares about his students! He is understanding of his students' workload, unlike other professors! I ended up ACE-ING ALLthe tests AND the final due his thorough explanations. It's a flipped classroom which means you HAVE to do the homework so that he can answer your questions in class. I love his joke of the day. DEF recommend him!
He wants his students to understand the topic and to pass the course. He uses the flipped classroom w/c I didn't like bec watching his videos online is like an added homework besides from webassign. He gives extra & partial credit. He will be there for you if you put your effort into it. Funny guy. Love him.
He was great, he does the flipped classroom so you do hw at home and watch his youtube video on the topic. You wont need your textbook. Exams are designed to increase in difficulty and he allows a cheat cheat. the quizzes from the hw assignments were not part of grade.
George created a "flipped"-type class room where you go online and watch the videos of the content at home and then do some homework before the class. When you come into the class, he doesn't lecture on the subject, he answers questions from the homework. If you struggle with math concepts, I would HIGHLY recommend his class.
Hes the best math teacher Ive had so far, he cares about you actually learning the material and sets his grading up very fairly
George Buch should be in the next Marvel movie as a hero. He works for his students through thick and thin, and will ensure to the best of his abilities your success - just as long as you are willing to work for it. His flipped classroom was a pleasant surprise and, in my opinion, was the greatest attribute to my success in the class. Take. Him.
If you struggle with math concepts definitely take George. He implements a "flipped classroom" style. I normally struggle in math but this teaching style helped ingrain the concepts in a more patient setting. The tests increase in difficulty but he allows you a cheat sheet to ease the pain of math exams. He always put your learning first! Recommend
BEST MATH TEACHER. There just isn't any other way to describe him. His "flipped classroom" makes learning the material so much easier. He cares for his students and their education. You can tell he loves what he teaches which makes him a better instructor. I recommend everyone take him, I wish he was an option for 181!!
George is the best math instructor I have ever had. Math gives me high anxiety and I usually perform poorly in my math classes, just getting by with a passing score, but with George as an instructor, I found myself to be very comfortable with the subject and was very successful in getting the grades I wanted the entire semester. He's the best!
BEST math professor. He is just someone who actually knows how to teach math to students. I'm sure there are a lot of great math professors, but not many know how to actually teach the material to others. Buch breaks things down for us non-mathematicians. Take him, that's all I have to say
First of all, I just want to clarify that I did not have Professor Buch as my instructor. I had another instructor and due to her teaching style, I could not comprehend her lectures. I stumbled upon Buch's videos on YT and I just want to say they are amazing. He explains a lot of concepts in a coherent way and I wished I took his class instead.
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. I took MATH 127 initially with a different professor and was honestly completely lost. Got a C on the first exam and it was all downhill from there. Got so bad I threw in the towel. Things were totally different with Buch. His flipped classroom is the answer and he KNOWS ALL. 10/10 teacher
I recommend George as a professor. I took Math 127 under him for Fall 2016 and it turned out to be one of my most enjoyable course experience so far. Simple and elegant execution of the flipped classroom made all of the material very accessible. Even the impenetrable WebAssign problems became easy to tackle after his thorough explanations. 10 / 10
amazing teacher! George makes videos and uploads them all so you can access the lectures at any time... if you don't watch the videos you probably will not pass the class. His videos are great though. He can really take a subject and make it so easy to understand and he is very clear on what is needed for the test vs what is just extra.
Honestly one of the best and most caring professors I've ever had. He really tries to make sure all his students understands the materials and will go out of his way to do so. He makes lectures on youtube and works problems in class. He also made videos for math courses he doesn't teach. I wouldn't be passing 181 right now without those videos.
The best professor I've ever had not just in college, but high school, middle school, elementary, preschool. This isn't hyperbole, I passed with an A because he gives you the information in a way that works. His videos are the greatest and have been used for MATH 127 and 181 by me, his videos for 181 are better than the professor I have righ tnow.
This dude rocks. He utilizes a 'flipped-class' method of teaching: His lectures are available on YouTube and he discusses homework questions in class. Excellent instructor.
Great teaching style! Makes everything so easy to understand. Don't be intimidated by the use of no calculators. He makes math fun and exciting. He utilizes a flipped class (watch videos). He is really clear on what is needed for exams, and it is a breeze. HW ?'s go over in class. Would take again if I needed another math course. Highly recommend!
Excellent teacher, his "flipped class" style is extremely great, as all of his lectures are online, accessible at any time. If you have any problem on the homework, he will make sure he works it out on the board the next class. His exam reviews are great. If you are able to complete all problems on the study guides he hands out, you will ace exams.
The dopest math teacher. He created a "flipped class" style in which you learn and take notes at home through his lecture videos online, and then you go to class to go over the homework and any questions you have. Whenever exams comes up he does reviews, and do NOT be afraid to ask questions!! He let's you have cheat sheets.
George is incredible. His catch phrase is I like to make difficult things easy not easy things difficult. He conducts a flipped class. All of his lectures are on youtube. you watch before and do the homework & come to class with questions. At first I wasnt a fan but it proved to be awesome. HE CARES. AWESOME GUY. TAKE HIM!!!
He does a flip class so you watch his YouTube lectures at home then do homework in class. Hes a great prof and overall nice guy. His videos are pretty short, and easy to understand. Then class just reinforces what you learned in the videos more. I would recommend everyone to take him if you have the chance
George's flipped class really works! The online lectures are clear and you can watch them as many times as you need. And in class he helps with all homework so you get the homework points. Overall, he is the best MATH 127 teacher and I wish I could take another class with him!
Good grades but you end up without learning math
Currently taking 126 with this instructor & I'm so lucky to have him. I've gotten A's on every exam so far. His flipped class is highly effective and he has the talent of making complicated things simple. I have such a thorough understanding of this level of mathematics because of him. Hope to take him for 127!
He does a flipped class method where you watch his lectures before class and then go over questions during class. You have to take the time to watch his lectures but it honestly take 30-60 minutes of your day. He gives you exam reviews that are EXACTLY on the exam. Easy A and a great guy!
Im so glad I took him this semester for math 126 this class was the most non stressful he does a flipped class which you really learn a lot. He actually tells you exactly whats going to be on the test and doesnt waste your time. No quizzes which I was happy about LOL. George is very caring and funny he really makes sure you understand material.
George was a great teacher. I loved his flipped class method where you take notes at home and go over homework in class. He cares about the students learning and made it easy to get an A. Take him!
he's very nice and funny and is not a tough grader but his testes are very very hard. you need to watch all the videos and attend class if you want a good grade. overall he is pretty good
Quite possibly the best math professor you'd ever take. Professor Buch does a flipped class method and when he said that his method works, he proved it by comparing his students passing to other students who don't do his method. He's an amazing math professor and I wish he was the head of the department. He would really bring good change.
an easy class if you put in the work to do the homework and watch his videos. go to class for extra practice on problems and make sure to do the test bank for each exam. it's basically the same problems that will be on the test just with different numbers.
George is the best, he really enjoys what he does. The class is flipped so you watch lecture vids online, do the hw, and come to class with questions. Attendance isnt mandatory, but always show up to exam review days since he tells you exactly what type of questions (how many of them too) are expected to be on the exam
I have always had a hard time with any type of math class, this is my second time taking this class but my first time taking it with George. If I would have taken it with him the first time, there would have been no need to take it again. He is an amazing professor, teaches a flipped class. Lecture videos are online, work homework in class.
George has the talent for making complicated topics seem very simple. His flipped class really works. His in-class exams prepare you for the department final. I learned so much math in this class and I enjoyed it! Nice guy, fantastic instructor.
After taking too many math classes taught by horrible professors who seemingly didnt care about their students, George and the flipped classroom made it work & he genuinely cares about students comprehension of material as well as their success. Hes happy to help you during/outside his office hours. Do what you need to do and youll succeed.
I never really give 5 stars on anything cause I believe 5 stars means something is above and beyond but George is definitely someone who deserves 5 stars. Best teacher I have ever had even considering grade school. He really cares about your success and his teaching style makes it hard to fail. Show up to class and you will pass with no problem.
The UNLV math department needs to take a cue from George and his effective teaching methods. Math 126 is notorious for having a high failure rate, but the majority of George's student pass the class. His flipped class works and his exams prepare you for the infamous department final. So glad to be taking him for 127!
BEST math professor I have taken. He clearly wants his students to pass and basically lets you know what will be on the test. And he allows a cheat sheet for the exams, except the final. He definitely made math easier for me.
This is what a PROFESSOR should be he cares for each and every one of his students and there are reasons why his classes are always doing way better than other math classes he explains concepts so well and I've never been great in math until I took his classes. 100% will take again
I'm in his class right now and am loving the way he teaches. His teaching style is flipped in the sense that you watch his online lectures prior to class, then go over questions on the homework and work on problems during lecture. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I recommend showing up because he gives you answers to questions that're hard.
My only regret is that I won't be able to take George for calculus & beyond. He's a great instructor & I was able to work through my math anxiety in his classes (had him for both 126 & 127). There are plenty of brilliant math professors, but few of them can actually TEACH the subject. Fewer have the ability to make hard things seem simple.
George Buch is probably the best Math instructor that the UNLV has. The method he uses to teach the material is superb, called the filp-class, which consist in a set of videos where he explains you the whole material, but it is pretty simple. If you have your stuffs up-to-date you will pass the class easily with a good grade.
George is the best teacher I have EVER taken. He is caring, funny, and most importantly he is extremely smart. He wants his students to succeed and I can guarantee you that you will leave his class loving math, even if you hate it. Best instructor UNLV has to offer, he is the type of professor who knows you by name!
George is the gem of the math department! I took him and aced both 126/127, which is amazing because I used to be terrified of math. He shows you that math is completely doable, provided you put in the effort. And his flipped class really works! He's a nice dude and there are never any surprises on the exams. I had a such a blast in his classes.
Can't stress enough how great this professor is. He is so approachable and you can tell that he cares about his students. His class is flipped so you watch videos of him teaching the lesson at home and then work on the homework problems together in class. As long as you watch the videos and complete the homework, it's an easy A.
I hated Math before taking Buch, now my perspective has drastically changed. His use of videos outside of class really help you learn the material. He also goes over the homework in class before its due which makes it easier for questions. Overall one of my favorite professors ever.
I used George's videos as supplemental lectures for my MATH 181 class at UNLV. His videos helped tremendously, if I didn't understand something from my lecture his videos would always clear that up. I commented on his video asking a question and he responded immediately, I could tell he cares. Really appreciated his teaching style. Great teacher!
Buch is probably the best math professor I've ever. had. I wish that all classes could be in the flipped style that Buch uses. He really cares about his students passing, and goes as far as giving opportunities to bring up grades by doing better on the next exam/final.
Uploads video notes via web campus and expects you to watch them and do the hw before class, actually turns out better because you get to just solve problems in class and ask questions on problems you did not understand on the hw. Always available. Chill guy.
George makes complicated things simple, but most importantly he teaches you to do the same. He makes math easy and enjoyable. I wish he could teach Math 181 because his flipped class and his passion for teaching makes him a true gem.
George is wonderful professor helps students make math easier. Really cares about the student and tries to make math fun/understanding. Course is a flip class which is half online half in class. His lectures are online as well as the h.w that you do before class and during class you go over the h.w problems and work on any questions the class has
He's a good professor but he really has to do something about updating his videos its been 4 years since they were posted and there's various mistakes he makes that he doesn't fix until 5 minutes later into the video or during lecture leaving me confused for 2 days until lecture. He's also been lacking with responding which he used to be good at.
I didn't take George for 181 exactly, but I used his videos to help my understanding of 181 concepts. I took George for precalc and really loved his lectures. He takes you through differentials and integrals step-by-step. I think calculus 1 has been a breeze and I owe a lot of that to George's explanations.
George is a great professor. He does a flipped classroom which was really helpful for me. He gives great feedback and ensures you understand how to do the problem. He makes hard math so easy to understand and truly wants you to succeed. If you have the chance, take George! He's great!
He uses the flipped class which is nice but sometimes all the videos that need to watched go over an hour and a half. If you have a job and other homework heavy classes I would NOT recommend taking him. Can be kind of a jerk when the entire class isn't understanding a concept. Not the worst professor but not my favorite.
life saver. really good lectures, and online videos. I couldn't have done well in calc without him.
George is the best math professor and maybe overall professor at UNLV. Took his flipped class for 127 and followed his videos online for 181. I feel like George was my real professor and not the one whose lectures I was actually attending. A real gem right here, folks. FINALLY A PROFESSOR WHO CARES!
I took Math 127 with professor Buch and I found the flip class very helpful. He makes you watch videos before class that he has in his YouTube channel and during class he goes through some of the homework problems and answers questions. I took Math 181 with other professor and if it wasn't for professor Buch's YouTube videos I wouldnt havemake it.
I wish I knew about George when I took Math 126. He makes his standards very clear on what you need to know for each test. Study exactly what he tells you to study. Grade is heavily weighed on outside class stuff, like homework and ticket out the door. Do everything - that will help you get the best grade you can.
He teaches a flipped class, so you watch his teaching videos at home, attempt the homework and class time is for help solving problems on the homework. He's a solid teacher, and just wants everyone to pass his class. You don't have to show up, but he gives occasional graded quizzes when class attendance is lower than a certain number of students.
Ive never had a professor that tried harder to get everyone to pass. Students are expected to watch his lectures online, attempt the homework, then in-class he will go over any questions anyone is struggling with. He gives many many chances to succeed in the class. I struggle with math and he has been the best teacher Ive had.
Best professor I've ever taken. It's a shame he doesn't teach Math181, but thankfully he posted lecture videos for that class too, so I watched his videos in order to understand the material in Calculus, and let me tell you that I understood the concepts more clearly than attending my actual lecture. Take him over any other professor if you can!
George was the best math professor I've had. His class is a flipped class meaning you take notes and try the homework beforehand. During class is when you ask about different concerns about the notes/homework/questions. Make sure you do the notes!! It will help a lot.
Mr. Buch is an extremely efficient math teacher. Not only does he truly care for his students' education, but he does a fantastic job of elaborating on topics even though the class is remote learning now. He relies on WebAssign for quizzes, exams, and homework so a lot of the questions that appear on tests are from the homework
He assigns quite a bit of homework & hes kinda rude when you ask simple questions.
Absolutely terrible professor. Posts private student emails on his Facebook and ignores pandemic guidelines.
He was not actually my teacher in person but my MATH 181 teacher was not very helpful so I went to Proff. George Buch youtube videos GeorgeBuchUNLV for each section and if it wasnt for his youtube videos I would have not passed this class. They were extremely helpful and would explain how to solve problems step by step and why.
such a great prof that cares for your learning and understanding. everything was due on WebAssign and some on canvas. if your class is online still, go to his weekly webex meetings. he's very open to questions you are confused on the hw. exams are simple if you do the exam practice problems. only math class that I got an A on, take him!
Amazing professor that really takes his job seriously. I have taken him twice already and I would say his best characteristic is that he loves math. He definitely cares about students and wanting everyone to understand. If your actually looking to learn take his class. His flipped class is very well organized. Overall hes just a decent human being
Great professor in making sure everyone understands the content. He can dumb down the math to make it understandable, being great since math isn't a strong suit of mine. His videos can be a bit long sometimes (10-20 mins for one video), but all of the work is on WebAssign. Wish he taught Math 181.
Good Professor. Clear and straightforward with teaching and what he expects from you. Easy to follow along with the lessons. Watching his lecture videos are all you really need to understand. Didn't use textbook but you need Webassign for homework and quizzes. Has live web class if need extra help. Highly recommend taking him.
George is genuinely one of the best professors at UNLV. His class is flipped, meaning you watch his pre-recorded lectures before class and then just go over any questions during class time. His lecture videos are very easy to understand even if you're not the best at math. I wish he was teaching 181, I would 100% take him for future math classes.
Professor Buch is probably the best professor I've ever had. I've always struggled with math and this class made it incredibly easy. He will email you back within minutes no matter the time or day. You can tell he truly wants his students to succeed. I cannot recommend his class enough. Attendance is not mandatory, but he rewards those who attend.
Best Math professor I've ever had. I failed 126 twice before taking his class and ended up with an A.
Honestly one of the best math professors I've had so far. His lectures were easy to understand and the hw was reasonable. Very organized flipped class. He is helpful and makes the material easy to understand. I took his class back in the spring semester and I honestly wish he could teach Math 181.
This has been one of the best math professors I've had. He goes into depth to tell su exactly why we need to do specific steps and he encourages us to ask for help. The class has 2 exams that are balanced with homework and a couple easy discussions to give a little credit boost. The only problem is the online homework can have formatting problems.
George is the man! Best math teacher I have had in college. Straight forward, easy going and caring. Wants everyone to succeed and puts the class in the best position to do that. Explains everything clearly, not long winded, if you have a question he is more than happy to help. Great teacher, great guy. 10/10 would come back. And he's funny
An absolute joy to be around. You can tell George has a passion for teaching. He loves to help and the guidance he gives is great. His flipped class isn't for everyone but his personality makes up for it. He accommodated me well when I got sick. Gives lots of opportunities to increase your grade. 10/10, would absolutely take again.
In HS I accelerated in math, in community college I failed 2 semesters of math. George saved my future degree. I actually ENJOY learning in his class. His class is flipped, he records the videos of lectures and posts them online. In-class hours are used EXCLUSIVELY for homework and answering questions. I wish I could have him for every math class.
After years of thinking I was bad at math, thanks to George I now know that's not true. George teaches everything in a way that is easy to understand and master. His grading and tests are fair and consist of what was taught. He's compassionate and here to help you. I can't understand how someone could do badly in his classes.
George is an incredible instructor. The hybrid class WORKS. He explains concepts in very clear, simple, and short videos, and further expands on it in lectures. He genuinely wants you to succeed, and will give opportunities to bump your grades or earn extra credit points if you work hard. One of my favorite instructors, he makes math make sense.
"Best math professor" would be an understatement. Make complicated things simple. He records lecture videos, about 15-20 mins each. The students watch the videos outside of class and try the homework. In the lecture, he asks us what questions we need help on and he goes over them. Watch the videos, go to class, and you will get an A.
Outstanding professor! He knows how to teach and make things simple. The hybrid class only works if you watch the videos! For each test make your own study guide using all the ticket out the door questions and process exams. Master every question! Don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask for a question to be worked out from the homework.
I am so incredibly terrible at math. I was so scared going into this class, I was terrified, until I saw this heavenly like figure, it was George. This man is the absolute GOAT. He made the math enjoyable, something I never thought was humanly possible. His videos on his YouTube channel are the most helpful resource. This guy is absolutely AMAZING.
I am awful when it comes to anything math related, however, I enjoyed taking this class because of how amazing this professor is. His lectures are excellent and the way he explains concepts makes it easy to understand. I would 100% recommend him as a math teacher and I would love to take another class taught by him.
If you do what George tells you to do, you WILL succeed. I took his course as a 3 week accelerated summer course and even though it was difficult, I was enjoying coming to class every day. I hate math, but George made it so enjoyable and rewarding. He bought us donuts for our exam on international donut day (fancy ones, too), need I say more? GOAT!
Best math professor in the math department hands down. He is an amazing teacher, his lectures are very informative and his exams are challenging enough, if you study what he teaches you, your grade will show your effort. Answers every question and gives a very good explanation. I wish I had him for my higher division math classes. Thank you Mr Buch
Teaches math very pragmatically. He uploads his lectures online for you to watch before class, so class time is spent further elaborating and helping with homework. Probably has the best grading scale and teaching method for understanding how to do the math. If you struggle with doing the math itself, he is the professor to take. Office hours help
Amazing professor. Flipped class so he teaches online w/ videos. Tests are easy w/ a whole cheat sheet allowed, and gives extra credit. Good amount of homework and reviews confusing HW answers each day in class. Explains everything perfectly and helps if confused. Gives every opportunity to succeed and grades very fair.
I think professor Buch was a solid professor and instructor and always made the class easier to understand and grasp. For me personally 126 was a difficult and VERY fast paced class, which is not because of Buch, but I think that during the lectures he made things more clear. Not a big fan of the flipped classroom though
If you want free time, you better not take him. He does a flipped classroom where he uploads lecture online and wants homework done before class that day (where he is "supposed" to help you with it). In my opinion, it is an excuse not to teach. Way too much work, spent 8+ hours a week doing homework for this class.
professor buch was difficult. it constantly felt like he was trying to belittle the class. he boasted that his class a lot of time and that people complained about the flipped classroom. i got an A only because of the lectures i would watch outside of his. take a different professor.
Best professor at UNLV hands down. I don't even know where to begin. Take him if you have the chance!!
This can be due to lack of clarity in teaching methods, insufficient student support, and disorganized course structure. In-person tests can be challenging due to high difficulty levels, unfamiliar question formats, and time constraints, which may not accurately reflect students' understanding of the material, including that I am very upset in DRC.
The flipped class is annoying. He says it saves us time, but it doesn't. You essentially have double the lecture time for math 126 since it's flipped. Combined with the 26b support class, you essentially have 8 lectures a week for just the one subject.
i have a commute of over 40+ minutes, i showed up for a review day and the class was 15 minutes long because he chose to go over 5 questions for our literal EXAM. i had to go up after class and ask for clarification on multiple questions, i don't understand why he did that. i passed this class, but if your schedule is busy, don't take his class.
Professor Buch's MATH126 is a challenging but rewarding course. The flipped classroom model takes some adjusting, but with Unstuck ai and diligence, the content becomes clear. Attend class, do the work, and you'll succeed.
this was my first math professor as a freshman and i don't think i'd take him again. took him in fall 23 and many of my classmates had to use AI to pass his class. there are 2 assignments due EVERYDAY (hw + pre quiz) and there can be over 20 questions each. he's nice i guess but i don't see how his flipped class makes it easier? how disappointing.
Do not take this professor unless you want to teach yourself. He says the flipped learning saves time, but it does not save you time trying to understand difficult problems when his videos go over the most basic examples. He shrugs after answering someone's question as if it should've been basic knowledge. Thanks for discouraging me from asking you
Don't let these reviews fool you like they fooled me he gives no study guide on final and for the 2 exams you have in there he gives a practice but then most of it is nothing like the test. Your grade is pretty much 25 percent for exam 1 and 25 for exam 2 and exam 3 30 so no cushion for your grade at all. Also he does not give extra credit.
George is the best math instructor I have ever had. I took him for Math 127 at UNLV then utilized his Math 181 videos when I took that class the next semester and those helped so much. I would take him for every math class if I could, definitely jump on the chance to be in his class if you get the opportunity.
By far the best professor I have had while being at UNLV. Yes, the work is hard but he gives all the resources you need to be successful. It took me a while to get used to how his class is set up (watching lectures outside of class and going over homework in class), but I would recommend to everyone taking this class to take it with him.
Be prepared to speak in class whether you like it or not. Exams have sneaky trick questions, so don't rely on the study guide alone. Decent teacher, just stressful.
Very tough and strict. Unfair with grading and when it comes to not having stuff due on time. Very unclear and unorganized when it comes to assignments.
He uses a flipped class setup, which helps a lot if you already know some of the content presented—you can just skip or skim through the lectures you're already familiar with. In-class work focuses on answering the homework and any questions that the students have. You will NOT succeed if you don't attend class/slack off on the coursework.
This instructor is extremely strict and inflexible, especially regarding deadlines, which often feels unfair. Grading standards are tough and not always clearly communicated. Additionally, the organization of assignments is poor, with unclear instructions and expectations, making it difficult to keep track of what is due and when.
He uses the reversed class model, where he doesn't teach and you have to teach yourself everything, he just sits in the class while you work. Class average for exams should never be in the 30s for a precalc class. If you have never taken precalc before, don't take him, you will spend a significant amount of time teaching yourself everything.
He uses the reversed class model, where he doesn't teach and you have to teach yourself everything, he just sits in the class while you work.
His class was lovely. He does a flipped classroom, which might not work for everyone. As long as you watch the lecture video, attempt the homework, and come to class with questions, you will do good. George was always willing help, don't be afraid to ask questions, go to office hours. TOD exam questions, and exam questions relay race to practice.
This professor does video recordings and provides class time for assignments where you can ask for help and work through problems you learned about in the videos. There are a few paper assignments that are graded heavily so make sure you take notes. Overall, I loved his teaching style.
His class was overall pretty easy and enjoyable. There were a lot of in class assignments, but never without warning or prior knowledge before taking it. Attendance was partially required, in the sense that every other day was a review day. His online videos (while the quality is 720p) were very helpful and brief. He is a great person and positive.
Before you take his class beware that all of the learning you do is by yourself, in person classes are only made so you can complete the in class assignments. All of the learning is done by Youtube videos. If you are ready for that - take his class. Other than that George is a fair professor.
Be aware that most of the material is learned outside of class, through prerecorded YouTube lectures. For every lesson, there is an instructional lecture, and an additional video full of example problems. If this is a red flag for you, select a different professor. If this seems cool, then pick George. Very nice and fair with his grading policies.
