I loved this guy! The class was alot of work but you actually learn something; Not just names and dates, but the nitty gritty of why all this**** happened. Mr. Buckingham is obviously well educated and an incredibly interesting person in and outside of class. My favorite days were the ones where he completely bunked the lecture and instead had discussions about some of the most random stuff. eg hunting (which he does), 16th century fashion, and Marylin Monroe's "fainting" chairs. Entire grade consists of 3 tests and 1 research paper worth 250 points each. Research paper is straight forward and fairly simple but lectures are very long and boring (goes off topic a LOT). Most of what he covers isn't even on tests. Must read book for tests unless you find the study guide (good luck finding it without buying the book for $160)

if you don't mind sitting through a class where the teacher is often off topic and talks about his personal life then take this class. It's a simple class. Do what he says and you'll pass. He has a lot of good stories and life lessons. This class is definitely worth an easy A.

This class is made up of 3 tests and one research paper. The research paper is self explanatory and the 3 tests are somewhat hard if you do not read. The first test is basically given to you. He does assign extra credit towards the end of the semester. He's a very funny professor and you learn a lot about the topic and about life in general.

I took his class a few semesters ago, great teacher. If your looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you, You will read and have to study for the tests. I would also recommend you turn OFF your cell phone and put it in your bag. Its nice to see a teacher who does not cater too the disrespectful students. Great class!

1st test is a freebie; just study the guide. The 2nd test he did not prepare us for at ALL. Just going to class daily and using the guide covered maybe 1 answer on the 2nd test. He gets off topic more during lectures than he spends discussing what's on the test, which can be frustrating. Wish he put effort into teaching if he was giving hard tests.

Buckingham is a cool guy but his lectures are always getting off topic. What he lectures on is almost never on the test even though he says he "teaches straight from the test." So be ready to read. You won't learn anything if you don't read the book.

His lectures are very boring and he goes often topic all the time. He wastes a large amount of time going off topic about various topics that he is 10 chapters behind. will be tested on material he hasn't gone over in his lectures. A classmate asked him what chapter we were on to clarify where we were in the book and he didn't know.

Easy teacher. His first quiz is completely copied from the website he gives you, or on the back of the book, STUDY THAT. I got D's on 2 out of 3 tests and I still got a B+. Doesn't change his lectures at all. If you know anyone who has taken his class, ask for their project& put it in your own words, he wont notice. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!

Make sure to rest up before his lectures, or else you'll fall asleep from boredom! Offers alot of extra credit, but does it really help? Finds every excuse to see why you're doing bad in the class: are you fighting with someone? did you get out of a recent breakup? No to all of the above, maybe you're just not a good enough fit to teach history.

I would like to warn future students who decide to take his class: STAY AWAY. His lectures are about him and his personal life (80% of class time). He's terrible at teaching. Does not connect with his students. You're pretty much on your own on learning the material. Rubric for his research project is confusing and he's rude when you ask.

So I thought this class would be a straight up F. But I passed. Here is how. First test is as mentioned from the previous reviews, straight off the study guide, like verbatim. Study the guide for the first test and you'll get the easiest A ever. Second test read assigned chapters and you'll pass. Failed the last test and did the EC. pass class

day 25 and still can't find the study guide? took his previous history class and it seems he likes more on california history than u.s. history. Just find a good reading habit like getting drunk, high, some kind of brain booster, make love to it, or actually read it and then throw it in a pile of other books and make a bonfire from it once you pass

As a history major who recently transferred to a CSU, I can honestly say that this class is the closest thing to a history class at the CSU level. There are a few tests and one 8-10 page paper. As long as you go to class, take notes and do the reading you will be fine.

He is the worst teacher I've ever had. His lectures are most often not related to the content of the class. He goes off on tangents about his family or other irrelevant topics. If you have a class or are busy during his office hours, he is impossible to contact. He admittedly will never respond to an email. He's also disrespectful to students.

Terrible teacher. Doesn't teach well, CONSTANTLY goes off topic. Tests are nothing what he talked about in class, and he tests you on things he didn't even teach yet. I studied my ass off and still failed. I turned in a final project that I genuinely worked hard on & he gave me a ZERO. ZERO. With NO explanation. Same grade if I didn't turn one in.

Buckingham is AVERAGE: He does read these, his teaching is sort of mediocre. The first day of lecturing got me confused. I didn't know when the lecture even started! He talked about people who lived in the mountains, and I had to look through the textbook to get further info- obviously, ik you're supposed to do that, but it leaves you puzzled!
