Very nice and helpful guy. Flips if you talk bad about the Greek's though.
His class requires alot of work outside of class.
Very effective American teacher(of Greek heritage)So, by default he is great at everything he does.
ALL I HAVE TO SAY CURVE!!!!! GREEKS KICK ASS!!
Mr. Chackman has to be the most helpful professor I have ever had. He also is completely brilliant and has alot to offer the students. I would highly recommend taking his classes.
George is the greatest! Monty Python rules. :-)
Mr. Chackman is the greatest math teacher of all time and absolutly brilliant!
Great professor. Very understanding and willing to work with you on almost everything.
Class is ssooo easy since your homework problems make up your test. However, if you have to take any higher math courses, I would not recommend him. I got an A, but didn't take much away from the class.
A great guy; very sociable. The type of teacher you go to after the class is over to talk to. The material was also extremely well covered for a summer class.
Good grades are practically handed out in his class, but you don't LEARN much.
Pretty good all-around teacher
George is... Quite simply... My hero.
You can't hear what this guy says. Its horrible. I bet he is a great teacher but u can't hear him. But he basically gives away good grades. Halfway through my semster he said he was giving everyone 100% on their homework cause it was too much work for him
Dr. Chackman will go to any length to help his students. Calculus is not easy, but Dr. Chackman covers the material well, and if homework is completed as it should be, students should have no problem in this class.
mr. CHACKMAN or mr. Linderman. 2 best math teachers in the university
I would have this man's children. He is, by far, the greatest human bening on the face of the earth.
A very nice man. He explains everything well. He is a little soft spoken. His test are not long. Reviews anything you want him too. He is Grrreeaat!
Professor Chackman is great! He is really dedicated to helping his students learn and understand the material. Gives lots of examples and is not condescending. Too nice! Should to have a stronger policy on attendance and not talking in class and leaving early.
Tries his best to help every student out
His class was extremely easy, as was his grading policy, as was his policy on accepting homework, as was his way of grading homework, as was his policy for getting points back after a test... etc. If you're stopping at calc 2, take him definately. Otherwise you won't be very ready for Calc 3 at all
chackman, oops i mean george is a great teacher. one of the few teachers i really enjoying being in class with. if only he taught every class i needed! has a great attitude and sense of humor. very helpful.
I NEEDED THIS CLASS TO GO ON TO CONTINUE MY MAJOR IN ENGINEERING, I FELL BEHIND A BIT B/C OF PAST BAD TEACHERS AND DID STRUGGLE, BUT CHACKMAN REALLY HELPED ME OUT AND PASSED ME, I FEEL HE KNOWS WHEN YOU ARE TRYING THEREFORE WILL HELP YOU. THANKS CHACKMAN... YOUR MY HERO!!!!!!!!
This guy is easy. He is extremely nice. Great sense of humor. He sometimes go out of the basic and starts talking about some weird theories and stuff. So, try selective learning, meaning learn the things that you need to learn and ignore all of his weird explanations about cal 2, cal 3.
Relatively easy going (both in teaching style and personality), but hard to fathom at times. Gives easy quizzes but tough tests. Gives HUGE curves, however, so expect to pass if you put in (true) efforts. Extra credits if you're Greek, or better yet, SPEAK Greek. *tee hee*
He only takes attendence the first week of class. After that I stopped going to class. I read the book, came in only for the quizes and tests, and got an A.
Said he was tired of being labeled "easy" so he decided to toughen up the course. Made tests extremely difficult!!! Often went off on tangents and in general just a bad teacher.
Great guy, unfortunatley he was supposed to be the go to guy for the easy way to understanding calculus, well apparently he heard that his rep. was he was too easy and changed his course to hard, it really sucked for most of us who struggle through math, tends to show favortisim.
I dont know what the last 2 people are talking about. Chackman was freakn awesome! His test werent that bad at all, u just had to know the material. He's extremely helpful & unstanding. 4 picking fav. no! He's really easy to talk to. He went off on a tangent once, because the kid asked for it... he just put the smart a@@ in his place. It was funny
George is the greatest. Look, if you HONESTLY do the suggested problems, you can easily Ace any test...solutions manuel helps A LOT with studying. He has a great sense of humor...singing Elvis (won 2nd place down at the beach this summer), and taking time to show the class how advanced his minesweeping skills are. You won't regret taking him!
He goes through everything step by step, and reiterates all the small details. His tests are easy, and he curves ... had him twice ... both easy A's.
very easy teacher
Horrible teacher, said he was trying to loose his image of easy. Quizzes were okay but tests came out of left field. Hope he got the hell over his "I wanna be tougher" phase.
Chackman is great, this is my second time in Calc 1 and I have learned more in the first 3 weeks of his class than all last semester. Everything is explained well and lots of examples. His tests require some thought but if you listen to lecture than you will get an A
Yea, he is a whole lot better than my Calc. teacher in high school, he actually explains stuff through proofs, where as my high school teacher told us nothing except that it is possible to certain things "because you can". Overall, he is very good so far and funny. Makes night classes enjoyable. I don't know about this thing of rating him if he is hot or not, I am a dude, so I put not, but that is me!

no feedback except the tests... does not talk about them enough.
Chackman is a great professor! It wants his students to exceed & will help them when he is asked. He might try to single out one person but don't take offense to this. He likes it when the class is fun & actually shows interest therefore he will make the class more interesting. Tests arent bad just know your stuff & ask ?s. Recommend going to class
Ok, so here's the deal. The class was easy, but don't sit in the front row. I found him more than a little creepy at times. Then, there was the time he threw out a kid that was sitting behind me. Yeah, glad i'm done with him.
Awesome
His first time teaching this course, so a little confused at times. But he was very easy and laid back, scheduled 5 exams plus final and only took 3 ... and your lowest grade gets dropped. Made a dull math course easy and interesting.
He is AWESOME!
Chackman is cool, funny, and a great teacher! I would definitely recommend him and I wish he would teach other higher level math courses. He's really enthusiatic about math. Ask him for the link to his youTube, it's funny. If you don't take Chackman, something is wrong with you.
Talk to him! This guy is very funny and very greek. He's probably gonna offend you at some point in the semester, haha, don't take it personally. Do the practice homework, if you make an effort to do the bookwork on your own time, you'll pull a good grade.
Chackman is the MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd be crazy not to take him. I'm in Calc III with Melrose now and it's MISERABLE. Calc II with Chackman was the best. You learn A LOT and have fun while doing so. I can't stress to you how awesome he is!
He writes very fast on the board so it is hard to keep up with him and take notes but he is an amazing teacher. He will make you laugh while hes teaching. Check out his videos on youtube.com search 'i love juggling' hes got some hilarious videos. But other than being funny he teaches very well and you learn a lot.
I'm an Honors engineer major, and I RECOMMEND him! Lectures were lively to keep your attention. No assigned HW, quizzes were take home, tests were made from an announced selected list of book problems(so you knew what to focus on). The book is necessary to study for tests and to assist you in note taking.
There was no assigned homework, the quizzes were take home and due weeks later. The tests are based completely on problems from the book. He will give a list of possible test questions before every test. He will work through these problems if you go to his office hours. If you do the HW there is no reason for you to get anything less than an A.
Extremely personable, helpful, all around sweetheart, The class was neither easy nor hard, just do the work! Wish he taught higher level math.
Sometimes difficult to understand but always willing to answer questions and clarify if you ask. He will answer any questions during office hours and holds study sessions before tests (where he works problems, some that are on the test). He's pretty funny so it lightens up lectures a little bit. If you have the option, take George Chackman!!
Homework is done online. Test questions are based off end-of-chapter tests, so I'd say the book is required unless you're amazing at math. He moves fast but is willing to help if you get stuck (haha...no puns intended).
Great Math Teacher! i don't like math and was freaking out by taking Pre-Cal but he made it so easy. There are usually 3 test and he drops the worst grade of the 3. His test are based on his homework problems..so make sure to do them!!!
I thought he wrote very fast and it was extremely difficult to keep up with his teaching pace.
He's nice but his teaching isn't all that great, at least for me. He goes over material extremely fast. He makes math look simple but it's not simple for everyone. I kind of felt like he really didn't care about teaching this course because it wasn't Calculus. I had to withdrawal. Will try again at a later date with a different teacher.
Crystal clear on expectations and he was very laid back in class. If you do the homework you'll have no problem getting at least a B on his exams. I'd reccommend him just don't make fun of Greeks or his teaching ability cause he'll ripp you.
Make sure you sit in the front close to him because he mumbles and he is very hard to understand at times. He goes extremely fast and is very confusing at times. He does give a take home test--make sure u go 2 the math lab 2 get help cause you'll probably still be confused. On the up, he's cool and laid back.
Mr.Chackman is by far the best math teacher i have ever had! he teaches the material a-c. always gives you shortcuts to getting the answer quickly! He is soooo funny! you gotta watch his you tube videos! if you dont like his class then shame on you!!!! he is awesome! I would def recommend him to anybody who wants to have a fun class!!!
This class was fun! George makes you laugh and teaches you math at the same time! He's always willing to go over problems. Homework isn't graded, but helpful to prepare for tests. Test were EASY if you did the homework! Take home final exam! Can't beat that! I wish he taught more math classes. Take him...you'll enjoy math for a change!
if you are not strong in math then dont take this class...material is hard to follow and he goes pretty fast but he is always willing to help..tests are short so if you miss a few qustions you fail..
Easy as far as getting an A in the class. Tests are take home and questions are straight out of the book. As for teaching skills, all he does is regurgitate questions from the book on the board and solves them. His teaching did not help me get an A, I had to read the book. I couldn't tell you the first thing about statistics but class was easy
Just don't take this guy for STAT. Going off on tangents is distracting and confusing. Incoherent teacher. Going to class was a waste of time. He literally copied definitions out of the book on the board, word-for-word, as if we cannot read the book ourselves. I dropped his course. Maybe he's better for MATH.
he's nice but hard to follow. basically a teach yourself outside of class kind of class. good lucK! youre gonna need it
so hard to understand. pretty much writes what is in the book and does not explain much at all. most of the people in that class I know were waiting for there first exam grade to decide weather to drop or not, most have. Get another teacher if possible unless you want to teach yourself the material all night
I would get the book and teach yourself. He is too smart and goes from one thing to another. His mind is going all over. Test are right off the homework so do the homework!
Awesome Teacher! The class to begin with is easy, its all basic stuff. He is a little hard to understand but you can just teach yourself right from the book. Tests are easy, they are the exact problems from the homework. He is very nice and funny and knows his math, but can't really teach it that well but its easy. Also gave answers to bonus ?'s
HORRIBLE. he's a nice guy who is willing to help but doesnt succeed. He fails at communicating and gets you lost in his mumbling and math mumbo jumbo, he has a hard time getting to the point which makes it that much more confusing. if you enjoy teaching yourself and getting lost in translation, go for it!
He is a very easy teacher. Takes problems right out of book and gives you a short list if sections and problems on test! Never takes attendance.Don't email him never answers. Email classmates.Grades are not posted on BB.He curves testand there are no quizzes. Homework was online, but text is changing. He is pretty laid back.He will help if you ask
What a great guy! Excellent teacher! If you don't like George, you either suck at math and make minimal effort, or you just suck at life...
He is a really nice guy, and he means well, but it is just impossible to understand what he is trying to say. I couldn?t stand sitting in class and listening to him go on and on about nothing, and still not getting his point across. I wouldn?t advise anyone to take his classes, you won?t be able to learn anything from him.
Very good algebra teacher and nice guy! I recommend this class if you have trouble with math!
Nice guy, he goes off on tangents alot so it could take him a minute to finish a problem but he'll definitely help you if your having trouble. As long as you come to class and ask questions you can get through it. I would recommend him.
He's very helpful! I recommend him. He is nice and a bit out there but he is very willing to work with you if you don't understand.
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had, goes off on tangents and wants to prove that the formula is correct. Everyone is failing in his class, that is why he has a 15 point curve right now, cuz he sucks... def do not take
Yes he's nice, blah blah blah. BUT his teaching is HORRIBLE. i repeat, HORRIBLE. he's too concerned about showing off his awesome math skills instead of actually teaching. most of the class is failing horribly. tests range from a 4 to a 97. majority in the C,D,F range. do not take him unless you're good at calculus.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Yes he is nice but didn't learn a thing! Unless ur amazing at math and want a challenge don't take his class. He NEVER really shows u how to do the problems because he's always showing off his amazing math skills by proving the formula is correct in ways that have nothing pertaining to what u need to be learning in this class.
one of the worst teachers i have had. not good at helping you understand what he is trying to teach you. STAY AWAY. a nice guy but his teaching is not worth the money.
This man knows what he is doing! His problems lies in the fact that he is so easily distracted. SQUIRREL!!!!!
Great Teacher. If you need/want extra help, he is more than happy to work with you. Entertaining stories and jokes helped to make it through long classes. If you go to class regularly and do the hw assignments before the test, you can easily pass
SO STRANGE. His teaching is all over the place, manages to still be boring, and does not quite teach you anything. Really, really nice guy, but not really a professor type.
Has an engineering background so he's good to take for upperlevel calc classes. Will stay after class over an hour to help you. Very laid back about quizzes and tests. He has a different perspective on math and he loves calculus, it's what he enjoys. Definitely recommend! (MATH 212)
You have to pay attention and study if you want to do well. He will answer any problem you need help with and offers a review before the test. He does everything in his power to help students. I think the negative reviews are students that expected an easy A without putting in any effort.
he is a nice guy and reviews before test. he allowed us to use notes on test, vocab notes but nothing with examples. he provides a short list of hw problems that will be on test
Calculus is a hard class. He is bad at teaching but he curves his exams and the course compass is 25% of the grade so that should be a big boost of 25 guaranteed points. He is not that good at teaching but probably one of the best Calculus teachers and if you go to class and study you should do fine.
Ok, all you people saying that people who rate him poorly just dont try. NOT TRUE. Everyone can agree he's a nice guy, srange, but a nice guy.I had him twice, for two different classes. The only reason I did that IS because he's such a nice guy, but lets all be honest, HE CAN'T TEACH! Take Prof Strozak. He's best math prof at ODU!!! Trust Me.
This Professor is awful. He knows the material inside and out, however he simply cannot teach! If you are amazing at math and can self teach you will do fine. He NEVER really shows you how to do the problems because he is always proving validity of the formulas. If you want a good grade select a different Professor.
nice guy not a great teacher! super intelligent but spends a lot of time on formulas that are not on the tests. Test questions come directly from the book. So do the suggested problems and you'll do fine. 10-15 point curve on all tests
Professor Chackman is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He teaches the theory rather than just the methods which is hard for some poeple who are used to math teachers churning out problems like a robot. He is very helpful and grades on a curve and if you do the homework, you will never need the curve since it is all from the book.
Great professor and he gets excited teaching the subject. Highly recommended.
Great person. I have never seen anyone more excited about math before. He does teach to validate the formulas.. this makes it difficult for "non math people" I am terrible at math, and did bad in this class, HOWEVER.. his love for understanding and "proving" is contagious. All test are from book work and he curves.. :)
How to get an A in his class: Do suggested problems on syllabus. That's it. He takes his test problems straight out of the book. If you do good on the first two tests the final will be insignificant to your grade. Take his class if you want to pass Calc 2...the first time
He's a really sweet guy and he knows exactly what he's doing! I found that I would learn a lot just from watching him do example problems in class. His tests are only a few problems so make sure you know what you're doing or you won't do well! Do the suggested problems in the book as reinforcement and you'll do great.
he's good at what he does, but he doesn't teach you what you need to know.. so if you are looking for a A or teacher who actually teach don't pick him. i really wish i listened to rate my professor before. i never failed a class until him and i study hard had a tutor. but i didn't learn anythign from his class. 2 our of 15 passed
Finished his summer Calc class. Coming from a person who is RETARDED when it comes to math, take him. Whoever failed his class didn't even try. HE GETS ALL THE TEST QUESTIONS FROM THE BOOK HW. How can you possibly fail when you know the problems? TRY! Show up, show you care, he will notice, and respect that. A little cooky lol but its entertaining.
Definitely concerned with how people think of him. He is a know it all and refuses to be wrong. Stay on his good side he might help you out.
He is really nice, can be very confusing though, extremely helpful if you ask , curves tests, loves to explain where formulas come from which can be confusing.... I didn't do that great but the final was based on the previous tests and do the homework ASAP it will take forever to finish, that will make a good part of your grade.
I don't know how people did worse than a C in his class. The online homework is an easy 25%. The test questions are almost all exactly from the suggested book problems. Do the book work along side the online homework. Practice the book work multiple times before the test and you'll be fine. Don't wait until the last second to digest everything.
I absolutely hated his class and him as a professor. It takes him forever to get through one section and his notes are all over the place. His tests are easy but his final is hard. Had an A in the class until his final. He curves a lot because no one does well. DON'T TAKE HIM unless you have too.
He is nice, but absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. He has teaching ADD. You are lucky if he can get through one problem and make sense. He also cuts you off when you try and ask a question, assuming he knows what you are going to ask.... annoying. This is the first class I made less than a B in and Im a senior!
This professor is horrible!! He does not teach! His class is merely listening to him go on about theories. From the reviews I thought I would be able to tolerate him, but please take my advice and dont take any chances. He doesnt really curve grades maybe 5 pts. so thats a lie. 75% of my classmates withdrew from the class! Its not worth it.
If you failed this class, it's because you didn't try. I failed the first test with a 47, then I went to all his classes and studied for every test. If you're willing to try, he will go out of his way to help you. This was the highest math class I've taken and I ended it with an A by paying attention in class and studying. Stop whining and study.
Unless you can learn by understanding gibberish I recommend not taking this professor. He talks entirely way to fast, and does not teach anything. There is no reason to ask any questions, because he tries to answer them before you finish asking. Usually you will just end up more confused. Nice person, horrible teacher, and no i did not fail.
If you take his class it will require you to study like CRAZY. i went to all his office hours after i failed the first test. He is a nice person but not very clear in class. He will not be making his tests from the homework questions anymore so the class will probably be much harder.
He wants you to put effort into learning in this class. He is a good professor if you pay attention
Prof Chackman encouraged and followed the text. At times, he could go too fast. When asked for help he happily obliged.
He has a great personality but the WORST professor to teach math. He doesn't give points on test and throws stuff he barely reviewed on his test. He killed my GPA and homework isn't worth much in his class. If could've dropped his class I would've.
3 tests and a final, don't study the online graded homework, just the suggested HW from the book. tests are 6-7 Q's. tough. HW only 10% of grade. does not help you with figuring out what to study for the test. I am usually an A student but this class was hard.
He is not a good math professor at all. He does not explain what he teaches. His lectures are boring, and they are literally him copying from his notes without explaining anything. He talks to himself and doesn't talk to his students. Overall, I thought he was a HORRIBLE teacher.
He may not be everyones cup of tea but I enjoyed his sense of humor and he definitely knows his stuff. He will explain anything that you desire and shows proofs behind things so you don't have to just believe what he is saying. If you make it obvious that you are working hard you will pass and with a decent grade. Mostly practice problems test ?s
Professor Chackman is my favorite professor at ODU. I don't understand why people say his tests are hard. A list of suggested homework problems is given on the syllabus. For each test he takes problems STRAIGHT FROM THE SUGGESTED HW! He does copy his written notes onto the board for lecture but those notes are GOLD people. Watch his youtube videos!
George is awesome. Available for help during office hours if needed. Very flexible on due dates. He understands the plight of the student. Fosters his student's skills. Would take again.
Funniest math professor I've ever had.
Really radical dude. Sort of confusing at first, until you realize he's teaching you why functions work the way they do, preparing you for more difficult problems rather than teaching just how to solve the problem. Very intelligent and treats you as an equal and nothing lesser just because he has a degree. Knows what's important. Take his class.
Prof. Chackman is amazingly smart. He has a PHD in math. But that is the problem. He doesn't explain anything, he writes on the board a mile a minute, and his lectures are so confusing. All he does in class is practice problems. But if you copy down what he writes on the board that is his tests, straight from the notes. very hard teacher
The only thing that was good about this class is that he was very flexible with homework assignments and the tests were questions from the book. I didn't learn anything from being in his class, I had to teach myself or learn from the Pearson online assignments. He's a nice person it's just hard to follow in lecture.
Hardest math teacher I have ever had. He literally makes no sense and gives you too much extra information that is uneccessary, but he curves all of his tests very high.
Chackman is absolutely brilliant. He is one of the smartest math professors I have ever met, but that is his downfall; he is so smart that he has a hard time translating it to the general public. He is nice and funny, but you WILL struggle in his class. The good thing is that he pulls his test questions straight from the suggested homework.
Excellent at Math, really knows his stuff. His test are not difficult but he curves his test like I have never seen. Lectures can get long. Homework is optional but you should really do it because he pulls the questions from there. He is happy to help during office hours and is not judgmental. Highly recommend, learn the hw well and practice.
This Teacher is a cool guy. You must get the text book and go off of that throughout the semester. The tests are based on problems out of the text book so as long as you study those you can do decent on tests. Lots of homework that is part of your grade. He is a very smart guy but not a great teacher, I had to get a tutor. Final was very hard.
Only four tests and the final. All homework is online, and you can do the problems as many times as you'd like, so there's no reason not to get 100 on every hw problem. He can be really, really funny, but super blunt. You don't need to show up to class to pass, but he does't use any kind of powerpoint, so you'll have to get notes from a classmate.
Nice and funny guy, willing to work with you if complications arise. I didn't learn anything from his lectures though, I practically taught myself everything from MyMathLab. He's just everywhere with how he presents the information. I never opened the textbook, just used the access code. His YouTube channel is endearing.
I was sick on a test day and he was very accommodating and allowed me to make up the test at my convenience. Other than that, and the fact that he grades on a curve and drops the lowest test, I was not really a fan of him. He said a few borderline offensive things in class, he at one point referred to the autistic spectrum as "the retard spectrum".
So good compared to others at ODU. Sometimes he does drift on a tangent but will get the job done. You can just tell he knows math well and he's not ashamed to let the students know. He may seem mean at first, but is actually very sincere and accommodating to individuals. You will have to the unassigned HW to understand the course
He doesn't cover all problems in class, you have to teach yourself by doing the textbook problems in book. Test problems come from practices problems. Final is very very hard so if you want an A, you need to do very well on all others tests which he does curves. He is a very nice professor.
Although I like Professor Chalkman a lot as far as a person, he is too smart for his good, and sometimes gets also in depth with any problem. His tests and quizzes are stringent, and not many questions, so you pretty much need to get all of them correct to get a good grade in the class.
He is a great professor who is very underrated. I am HORRIBLE at math and i got a D on the first exam. then i started going to his office hours and ended up getting 100% on the next 3 test. the assigned textbook questions are optional but those are the test questions. if you are bad at math like me, ask for his help. Im taking him again for calc200
George chackman is a wonderful professor. If you following the study guide he gives every class and do all the practice problems then you should be great for any test. He offers curves and additional help after class. He even suggests what the test problems may be. He jokes during class because he wants to have fun doing his job. Id do the same.
He's a really funny guy and also very accommodating. Class is hard in itself but teaches it fairly well. Also reviewing for tests is pretty easy since he tells you what kind of problems are going to be on the tests. Also curves heavily on all tests.
Great teacher, explains the theory behind the math in detail then does problems from the book. Just studying the examples given in class is not enough, do text bk probs. Very kind, funny, and honest man, who wishes he could help students more with grades but is restricted from doing so with the head of the department. Willing to help and means well
If you don't find doing things on your own without needing any information from the professor, then this is the class for you. He teaches as if he is presenting to a class, not as if he is a professor. Don't depend on getting reliable notes from his teaching but look in the textbook. Make sure to complete all homework assignments.
I struggled with math before his class, he really helped me! He curves tests and is very nice! Go to his office hours and he will help you. Do ALL the suggested problems he gives, bc they might be on the test! If you read a chapter ahead you'll understand his teaching a lot more. READ THE TEXTBOOK!! Go to the tutoring center if you are struggling!!
This professor is very accommodating and helped a lot during his office hours. Calc 2 is a very hard course, but if you do all the "voluntary" homework problems in the book, you will know every question on the test. beware that he doesn't give partial credit! he curves 20 points and that still isn't enough for the majority of the class to even pass
Mr. Chackman is one of the best professors Ive taken at ODU. He helped me understand calculus very well. You can always get a hold of him for help and you never feel like a bother to him. He curves heavy so if you do the practice problems in the book, youll have done the problems for the tests. Also one the funniest people Ive meet!
Professor Chackman was such a good professor, I decided to take him for Calc 1 and 2. He focuses on doing problems and he cares if his students succeed. The tests are difficult, but he doesn't make it unattainable to earn an A. He grades almost exclusively by the tests and final.
I have had this professor from my 1st semester to the covid all online semester of fall 2020. This is the single best professor I have had.
No quizzes, just 4 unit tests and a final (plus hw); can be a blessing or a curse. Lectures confused me as they were very theory-heavy, but the prof himself was very nice, and would help you understand the material outside of class if you needed it. We were partially online too, and I think he adapted well with covid; he's decently tech savvy.
Not the best, not the worst. He is very willing to help and explain especially in class. He likes participation and has no problem breaking something down or doing whatever problems you want. Hard to get ahold of outside of class though. Calc 2 is hard no matter what. He curves tests and your grade is only tests and mymathlab assignments.
He obviously cares very much about his students. Sometimes I didn't understand him because he'd go on tangents about math. His test were pulled straight from the hw problems so you really didn't have an excuse not to do well on the test. He also dropped the lowest test grade. If you're willing to put the work in, you'll do fine in his class.
Horrible!
Mr. Chackman was super duper helpful for this class. He goes over all the problems and isn't the best at explaining but he tries his best for you to understand if you have questions. His tests can be easy and the homework is too, but make sure you go to class because if not you won't know what to do.
Curves just about everything, if you dont pass you just didnt try.
Prof. Chackman is a very smart man. I highly recommend attending his office hours, because he explains how to solve the problems perfectly. Study the homework! Every exam besides the final had problems straight from the homework. Be sure to show your work as well. Gives curves on every exam and is VERY understanding.
The professor gave a 20% curve on every test which made it attainable to pass, but his lectures were all over the place. It's sometimes hard to understand how he gets from each step to the next he moves so fast and doesn't write down all the steps.
He has horrible lectures, wastes time on problems not related to the course, and goes off on tangents unrelated to the subject matter. If you want to actually learn math don't take his class!
Professor Chackman, has only a few grades; homework in MML and the tests. His tests are not too hard as long as you understand the content. He does go on tangents every class, but this allows for the tests to be pushed back if needed and limits what will be on the test, since they are handwritten and original.
Mr. Chackman is great at breaking down the material during lecture, so go to them. I advise going to tutoring for him plus he provides extra credit for each test. The tests are 9-12 math questions from the textbook and not online. The final consist of two parts an online and a physical section but he does do review.
Dr. Chackman knows Mathematics very well and is very passionate about the subject. Although he sometimes goes off-topic in class, his lectures are very valuable as he teaches the class with handy tricks to help the class understand the topic. Calc II is a challenging course, and he additionally curves his exams. I recommend Chackman for Calc II.
I wish I could take him for every math class. He made sure we understood the material in order to complete the assignments and if you miss class he will catch you up. Easy A.
I took him after my first attempt, and this go around was much better. He is passionate and loves tangents. If you want to know the how and not why, tune in about 1/3rd into the lecture.
Very easy to work with
If you are mathematically inclined, you should not hesitate to take Chackman. He is hands-down one of the best professors I've had. However, if you struggle with math, you might be better off with a more straight-cut professor. Chackman is down to earth and humble. He's the most interesting professor, and he made me look forward to coming to class.
If you aren't strong with math, don't take him. He is always going off on tangents & is not very organized. I need structure. He also makes everything way more complicated....I looked at my sister's notes and it was much easier to understand than what he lectures. He is a very nice man and will give extensions if you ask for them though.
Professor Chackman is passionate about math and really cares about student success. His lectures can be tangent-heavy, but he teaches handy tricks to help understand the challenging Calc II material. Unstuckstudy was a great supplement alongside the textbook for test prep.
By far the worst calculus class i have taken. He wont explain the sections and just jumps straight into the textbook and works off of every odd number. wont elaborate on topics that might have been pre-reqs so you need to be proficient in math before taking this class in order to learn anything. 3-4 tests because he chooses to drop some on a whim.
He teaches things in a very difficult manner, and they will not make any sense. You will have to teach yourself everything. Be prepared; since he grades very harshly, you will barely get any partial credit on problems that are not 100% right. He gives a ~20-point curve to make up for it, but it does not help. You're better off taking it online
If you never took calculus in high school and topics like series, parametric curves, and etc. are new to you, don't take a class with him. His teaching is like adhd combined with math where there's no structured lectures and he goes on unhelpful math tangents a lot. Pros: He does curve by a lot and his tests are problems right from the textbook.
This was by far one of the worst professors I've ever had. Nice man but his lectures suck. So unorganized, and he makes solving so much harder than they need to be. I got an A in all my classes except this one, so I'm not just some mad lazy idiot. There's also no extra credit. Beware
Great math professor. I enjoyed his class.
