All the above good comments are true. What this is sayin' (that's a catch-phrase of his) is he's funny. He reminds me of Fozzi the bear. Take this guy. If you talk to him in his office or in passing ask him about his bowling buddies. He's a character.

If you are a student committed to your education and wants to learn than I highly advise taking Mr. Cherveny for any class. It's an easy equation; come to class + do all the work =good grade. He is very clear on what he expects and DOES NOT deviate.

Outstanding teacher with excellent backboard presentation. All work is clearly explained step-by-step. But, if you don't come to class or if you don't do the homework or present your work on the exams as presented in the classroom - DO NOT TAKE HIM.

This professor is by far one of the best. The blackboard examples are simple to follow, and as long as you follow the examples, and complete the homework (that means show up for class), an A is easy to obtain. This professor is also very helpful!

I took this class in the summer with him and he is one good Math teacher. Easy examples to follow make learning the material easier then other classes. Plus, what can you say about a teacher who actually checks this website to see how he is doing, funny

George is the sh**. He really knows what he's teaching, and he is even excited about it. Sometimes I don't understand what he's talking about, but maybe that's cuz I'm not that great at math, but he is always willing to help. GREAT JOB GEORGE!!!

Mr. Cherveny was very clear on what he wanted throughout the semester. Although he is a touch on the difficult side, he is very helpful. Coming to class was very important, so if you take him don't skip his class. He is funny in class too sometimes.

Mr. Cherveny was very fair. Although he was very strict on writing skills. Sounds like the previous posts came from people who were spoon fed in highschool. He is like a lot of other professors-just play his game and you will be fine.

I don't know how much easier it can get. Mr. Cherveny walks you through every type of problem in class and tells you what he expects. You HAVE to come to class to succeed in this course. He's funny as hell too.

Classes were kind of easy, but he won't care about you as an individual student unless you come in to ask for help on his own time.

Difficult class, but Mr. Cherveny explains the material very well and made it easy. He's just too strict on his grading policies. If you don't intend to come to class, don't take him.

Mr. Cherveny was pretty cool. He grades tough but he tells you what he expects. I think that he wants students to learn and if you make an effort he'll make an effort. He was always polite during office hours. You have to come to class though, in order to succeed.

This guy is about as easy as it gets. I'm taking stats this summer because I have heard horror stories about Dr. Campbell at WIU. He walks you through every example and explains them well. One of the better professors I've had throughout my college experience at both Spoon River and WIU. He's got a pretty good sense of humor too.

Cherveny is the last of a dying breed, the professor who actualy expects his students to work. His class may seem intimidating at first (especialy to mathophobes)but he is very fair and his enthusiasm is contagious. Cherveny doesn't tolerate anything but total commitment to the class. Well worth the time and money.

I don't know what you guys are talking about - he is an excellent teacher. I love his hard work he puts into things. Plus, how could you not like the guy? He looks like a clown and makes me laugh and feel better just to hear his voice.

Mr. Cherveny walks you through the problems; man it's pretty easy. He does mess up on his homework probles though; but he's pretty cool; he's kind of funny in a wierd dort of way.

This class was not easy for me but Mr. Cherveny is willing to help you during his office hours. If you need a lot of individual help he is a good teacher to help you out. Theres Quizzes every week so you do need to know your stuff

This guy isn't so bad. As long as you do the homework and ask questions in class, you'll do fine. Very friendly; quirky sense of humor though. Will help you understand stuff you're stuck on.

I had George 21 years ago as an undergrad. He was only an instructor then and the only math teacher that I have ever had who wrote notes not just sample problems. The notes were great. You did have to always make it to his class or you would be lost. He is a great guy I use to shoot pool with him at the old Regulator.

Dr. Cherveny is a very good teacher. He wants his students to succeed. When I was struggling, he did everything he could to make sure I understood the material. He even gave me his personal textbook the last 2 weeks of class because mine was stolen. Take him! he is great.

Nice guy, but kinda quirky. Tests are pretty hard, but you learn a lot. He sure knows how to have a good time at happy hour!

A fair professor; grades on attendance, weekly quizes, and has good handwriting for notes. Best advice- don't skip his class... he'll make it 10X's harder for you!

Fairly easy teacher, takes attendance every day, has quizzes every Friday (very helpful for tests!!), doesn't collect homework. He repeats himself a lot and takes the whole class period for his lectures. I never even unwrapped my book for this class because he fully explained everything during his lectures!!

He seemed great at first, but as the semester went on - things got soooo hard cause he goes soo fast! DONT MISS A SINGLE CLASS! he takes attendance, and quizes every wednesday, the final is COMPREHENSIVE!!

he wasnt a bad teacher. he helped me out when i needed it. i just visited him at his office hours and he broke it down for me so well. i really understood the problems we were doing. dont miss too many classes. he was funny when he didnt mean to be. he always says "now let us see who is wise..." and "do note. do note."

The rater of the last feedback must live on Mars. I had Mr. Cherveny last semester and got an A. From day one, he has made it clear that all homework is required. Quiz/test every Wednesday and you must refer to you homework to answer some on the questions that he puts on his weekly quizzes or tests. Come to class, do the homework, & you will pass

This guy is not fair when it comes to giving partial credit on quizzes and tests. If you don't format your answers in the way he prefers (not the same formating as the textbook), he'll mark it wrong, even if you get the right answer and prove you know the material. Huge numbers of students drop his class. HATED THIS CLASS

He is the best teacher ever! i would totally reccommend taking him. i took pretty much the same class in high school but i understood it so much better with him! Excellent at teaching so you understand. Required attendance. Quiz every wednesday but he didnt try to trick you! do the homework and you will be fine.

Very good teacher. You can tell he really loves what he does. I have him for Finite and I enjoy going to class. He is very fair and his tests are not difficult if you know the material. One of the best professors I have ever had.

Excellent! I dont know about his other classes, but he is really good in 139. If you go to class everyday, there is no way you could possibly fail. I couldnt be happier.

George is a GREAT teacher and really cares for his students! If someone is stuggling just go to his office hours and he will be more than willing to help you out. GREAT teacher!!! Explains everything perfectly in a way you can understand. He cares about you knowing why something is the way it is. I wish he taught all my classes. I would recommend him a million times.

Everyone does not like him, but he really wants his students to succeed! If you go to class every day and go to him for help hell love you! Put in the effort and keep up on your work and youll get a good grade! HW is required but it really does help you out in the long run! Dont be a neg nancy and youll like him. :)

GREAT PROFESSOR! This was the best math teacher I've ever had. He began with explaining that he DOESN'T EXPECT YOU TO REMEMBER/KNOW EVERYTHING FROM PREVIOUS COURSES. He starts everything new, explains everything fully, answers all questions, and is a courteous person. HIGHLY SUGGEST taking him for any math class you can.

Very good teacher. He is very clear on how he wants things done and wants his students to be successful. If you put in the effort by doing the homework, his class is pretty easy. I dropped stats in high school so I was kind of dreading this class, but it was a lot easier with Cherveny because he teaches in a very organized and clear way.

George is one of the best math instructors at WIU. Attendance is mandatory and honestly, why would you want to miss out on his awesome catch phrases and math lessons? He's a great guy and extremely knowledgeable. He gives you loads of math problems which sometimes are actually used on his quizes/tests. YOU LOOK AT ME AND YOU KNOW :)

GEORGE! ahhaa i loved this guy and got an A in his class. he was really helpful when i went to get help from him, but i'm not gonna lie you have to work hard to get a good grade. show up to class, pay attention, take good notes, study, and you will do fine.

I LOVE THIS GUY! He is amazingly helpful, and if you don't slack off and do your work for this class, you can do really well. Occasionally he makes mistakes when he is writing numbers down and messes up his calculations, but other than that, he really knows what he is doing. Grading is fair, and he really helped me a lot!

Excellent instructor and explains the material very well, but you must really work outside of class to get an A/B in this class. I got a C and I attended every class and went to his office for extra help. Has on line quizzes/homework but in class exams. Just go to class and do your own work you will get at least a C.

Do not take him. Quiz's are very hard to pass and if you do not pass them you get an F for that quiz. Never answers emails and test are very difficult

Even though I am in the first 8 weeks of Fall 2012, I find myself regretting that I am taking this class with him. He is a nice guy, but not so helpful. Ignores emails, doesn't give time to finish quizzes, and I'm struggling and it's only been 3 weeks. Dropping as we speak.

Best math teacher I had at western. Goes through notes at moderate pace and makes sure everyone is on tract. Didn't collect homework but there are quizzes every week that are just like the homework. Very helpful when you go to office hours! Even after the semester was over, he would still help me with my Calculus homework. Hands down best teacher

Easily the best math teacher I have ever had!

All you have to do is show up, take the quizzes, and study a little. You do those things and you will at least pass the class. The class is not hard by any means.

The quizzes have problems from the homework and all you have to do is pull out your notebook and write your answer that you go. Easy points. People who fail this class do not do the homework and don't show up.

His tests have many of the problems from his quizzes. He is extremely helpful, I walked into his office spur of the moment with no notes or textbook and he said it wasn't a problem and answered all my questions. He has his quirks, but he's a good professor. Tests and quizzes are only "hard" because it's math, not because of the professor

If you try to get ahold of him when he's no longer on campus (basically after 3), chances are, you won't. I've sent him around 15 emails and he's only ever responded to 2. His lectures are crystal clear, though. His exams are deceptively hard.

Yes, the class is tough. It's statistics. You don't need the book but you do need the online program so you can do the quizzes. If you don't do the quizzes you will not pass. But you can literally do them over and over until you are satisfied. His lectures are crystal clear, and he provides notes for class. Which you later may use one (some) tests

Hands down the best math teacher I have ever had. When I had to leave for a week he emailed me all the notes and links for everything I was going to miss. Gives out good extra credit. He does give homework every class but honestly worth it. By the end of the course you have learned so much.

Math teaching robot! I mean this in a good way, his organization and preparation is exemplary, even the way he utilizes the chalk-board is great. On tests make sure to show your work in the manner he dictates to get good grades. Every time he breaks chalk he cusses and that's funny. I'm no mathy but his stats class has stuck with me.
