Im just not to sure about this guy, I am sure his intentions are good, he is very smart.. but his class was just so boring! For 2 and 1/2 hours twice a week he could make it a bit more exciting. I also found the class to be nothing like I had expected
Passionate about his subjects; extremely knowledgeable. Allows notes on tests, and gives extra credit. Lectures very interesting. Taping class is wise. WANTS YOU TO LEARN. Would take more classes by this instructor. Well worth your time!
I took his class three years ago as a junior in high school. His class was one of the reasons that I decided to become a political science major.
His rants can be unbearable, but very smart. It is hilarious just to watch him he is so quirky. i have learned a lot in his class and hopefully it continues at this rate for the whole quarter. He is very nonpartisan, much to some conservatives demise.
One word: BORING. His lectures are torture (long, quiet, boring). Sit in front, bring coffee, take lots of notes, and you'll do fine. This class wasn't exactly what I thought it would be (quite disappointing) but at least I learned all the countries of the world and their capitals (no thanks to Cole
great instructor, extremely passionate, one of the hardest working people ive ever met. all instructors should have at least one of these qualities.
Very good teacher. I love geography(always have)so I found this class to be very intersting. Learned some new things. Real shame thats the only Geography class!
Had him for GEO101, in fact,I am the last poster here!Took POSC211 with him because I thought he was a good teacher in GEO.I would highly recommend either taking HST103 or having a good knowledge of history over the past 300 years or so.Great class!Great teacher!I will be taking more of his classes!
I took his Geopolitics of the M.E. class and I have never learned so much in a single class. Those 2 1/2 hours are long, but you learn so much. You do take alot of notes. He makes you write them down, so you can get a chance to absorb them. I took around 70 pages for that class, but they are clear, not confusing. I recommend him for any POSC major.
This class was a little boring and not exactly what I expected, but Dr. Cole really is a great professor and you will learn a lot in his class.
He really knew what he was talking about. Puts everything on the board. He is a little fast though. I've taken three of his classes and loved them. He is pretty fair, gives good outlines for the exams and simple quizzes, if you read the material. Everything that is on the exams and quizzes are usually notes he has written up of the board.
Highly helpful and able to explain what he teaches. He is very passionate about the Middle East, which makes his class even more enjoyable. His lectures are good and discussion-based. The only complaint I have is that he makes you write more notes than anyone else in the world. Aside from that, I loved his class.
His lectures can be long, but will really help you understand the material for the tests. Taking exact notes is not as crucial, because he gives you an outline that basically covers all you will need to know, but since you're in class anyway, you might as well take notes. It helps to go over your notes alongside his outline before tests.
I didn't even bother reading the book. Anything he wants you to know, he will tell you himself. Nothing for tests or even discussions was from the book. He is very passionate about his subject.

He's entertaining.. and stutters quite frequently. We watch a lot of movies, and he lectures A LOT. Lots of note taking.
in a nutshell he stutters, laughs to himself, is fairly easy, and is a wonderfull teacher. make sure you take notes!!! his midterm and quizzes are all easy you just have to study for an hour MAX. the midterm and final are allowed one page of notes.
His tests are very hard...has a speech impediment and stutters constantly. Not helpful when questioning lecture material. Grade based off of test scores and one project. Do not take this class or any class that he teaches if you don't test well.
Those of you who appreciate Joe Pesci's character in the Lethal Weapon movies will learn to love George Cole. He's VERY enthusiastic, perhaps hyperactive about his subjects and he doesn't have a speech impediment or stutter, but his mouth doesn't move as fast as his brain. Don't bother buying any books. He tests EXCLUSIVELY from his notes!

I wouldn't call it a stutter as much as he searches for what to say next. He thinks faster then his mouth talks. Mass note taking and I mean mass. Good teacher. Not easy, but not hard. Gets a little frustrated w/ people. Still liked him.
Good teacher... very fun.. Funny man. Reminds me of Joe Pecsi(spelling?) I enjoyed his class. Recommended...
This teacher loves what he teaches but he rambles on and on. His tests are farily easy if you study.
I think I opened my book once, just to see what was in it. Really, you don't need the book, unless he changes something up. I don't see it happening though. Very nice guy! He grows on you as the quarter goes along. This was an in interesting class. I actually learned a lot! Once again, do not buy the main book, but make sure you get the atlas!!
Awful. SIMPLY AWFUL. I can't take sitting in this class for long. He's very full of himself and constantly repeats things. He gets overly excited and ignores the questions of students. He's completely in his own little world.
I used to be interested in geography. Cole killed that though. He is incredibly dull and gets very defensive if you dare to ask a question. He tells you all quarter that the capitals test will be one way and then springs something completely different on you. You are graded entirely on 3 tests and a 10 page paper. I'll never take his class again.
Cole is super nice, but he is a bit loud. Hard to get used to his stuttering-not sure if it's stuttering or he talks faster than he can think either way if you can't handle a obnoctious teacher you may not want this guy. We never even used our books which makes me mad; huge waste of money. I probably would never take a class from him again! C+
He grades hard but if you put your time in to the calss you should get a B+ min
He is very enthusiastic about his subject, but sometimes carries on a bit.
Class isn't even about geography until the end. Not at all what I expected. Take good notes to pass the tests.
He's almost impossible to keep up with and generally hard to understand. There is no extra credit offered and he's confusing--so you'll need it!
I took this during the summer, it was fairly easy and I learned very little. If you have to miss a class he gives you a hard time, but the more you bug him the more missed information he will hand you. You don't need the text book, you do need the atlas, and take notes!
If you don't get it ask you class-mates and read the text. Be sure to ask him what unit he is teaching on so you know what to read. You might get more out of reading the book. When you ask a question you will get an answer but expect it to be lengthy. I would not ever take any of his classes again!!!!!!
If you don't really know about geography, do not - do not - take this guy. He treats everyone like little children and when you as him a qestion, his answers are sarcasm. He never uses the text and his notes are aweful. On the plus side, If you attend his class, pay attention, and do what he asks, you should pass.
Not for poor test-takers-Never used the textbook but get atlas-Refuses to be personable-Very quirky and excited about topic-Never gives a straight answer to a question-Only grades on two quizzes, two tests, and a major paper. Goes a million mph, poor notes. Friendly guy. I wouldn't take him again.
He is the worst teacher. As a person he is smart and worldly, but he should not teach at all. I barely passed. Get an Atlas. Good luck, as geography goes he is the only teacher.
Lectures a lot; take MANY notes; slow and dull, but he knows his stuff; Don't bother asking a question, he won't answer it directly; STUDY and you will pass; Have at least a little interest in the subject; He gives a hard time for absences but the more you apologize the easier it is getting the missed work. Wouldn't take his class again, but its ok
I wouldn't recommend him as a geography teacher if you are new to the subject, but if you love GEO then go for it. Pretty tough test, no HW, LOTS of NOTES! lectures are long and kinda boring. I could see him being a pretty interesting political science teacher. Not for the amateur student. Nice guy, but very complex(has a lot going on in his head)
Before I begin, let me first say that I got a good grade in this class... He has almost zero people skills, unclear (like trying to look through fog at midnight) learning objectives, and is evasive on any question you may ask. Don't bother buying the book, just get the atlas. I'd never take him again.
Knows his stuff! For someone to keep a political science class interesting and even a bit entertaining is a talent! He is passionate about teaching and I think he is great!
he knows what he is doing, but hes so boring. all of his jokes go over our heads, i only sit in the back in case i fall asleep.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! Extremely rude and treats students like they are ignornant little kids. He likes to have 'power' over the class.. Studders so much and often his lectures are difficult to understand.. He is bouncy and cuts himself off on top of that. WORST TEACHER AT CLARK BY FAR! WAIT A QUARTER AND TAKE IT FROM A DIFFERENT TEACHER!
Mr. Cole definitely knows his subject and is passionate about it, which is by far the most important criteria for evaluating a teacher. Take lots of notes, don't miss class (unless you can get excellent notes from a peer), study, and you will do great. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
He is not rude, he is not disrespectful at all. Although he doesn't always answer the stupid questions that are bound to come up in a community college. He was extremely knowledgeable, and a higher quality teacher than you usually find at clark. Great teacher, and if I could I would take him every time he was available. The guy loves to teach!
Mr. Cole is one of the most knowledgeable professors in his field. During the summer I took Geo Polotics of the Middle East (let me tell you not easy). He was very passionate about what he was teaching and was very friendly and enthusiastic. You have to take well written notes. Overall I would definitely recommend this class. I learned so much!
This was a great class, really eye-opening and informative. Plenty of history mixed with politics. He was so enthusiastic that he would get ahead of himself and talk pretty fast at moments, but you can tell how much he knows and loves the topic.
Very knowlegeable & passionate teacher. Be prepared to take notes like no other! He is unclear as to what to study for the test, other than the 'notes'. Even though he has a review, lots of test questions magically appear that he never talked about. I took him for 2 classes, and could never seem to get past a B in his class. Hard & time consuming.
Great teacher, you actually learn in his class!! awesome guy, and favorite teacher at clark!
UMM!!! Super hard to follow. He is very passionate but that means lengthy. He assumes you know a lot already. Difficult tests and tons of notes. He stutters a lot and good luck with getting a clear answer. You have to tell him to slow down or he wont!
The worst teacher I have ever had at Clark College. A quiz on the countries and capitals of the world and their locations on a blank map is ridiculous.
He knows a lot of things, and interesting. You will watch many videos in his class. There are 2 quizzes, 2 tests(midterm & final), and one report called class project. they are multiple-choice. The project has to be more than 10 pages single spaced... but if you are interested in foreign countries, that would be fun.
Mr Cole is a wonderful professor who is very passionate about the material he teaches. His classes are not easy by any means but you will be entertained and will actually learn something! I would highly recommend him!
He loves what he teaches. He's a little scatterbrained, so you'll have to make sure you keep up on your own, but it's not a bad class.
99% lecture class, supplies outlined notes, than tells you to use those notes for tests. Without an OUTSIDE all encompassing comprehension of the notes and lecture they are USELESS. I have never been more angry after taking a final, much like his midterm it covered a whole gamut of things that were never mentioned. Avoid this guy if you can.
I definitely enjoyed this class. He's an interesting guy with a lot of cool stories to share. The tests were not too difficult, the only hard part was the ten page paper we had to write. The only minor complaint I had was that we watched a TON of videos and he insisted on using low quality VHS tapes even when he admitted to having the film on DVD.
He is a pretty funny little guy. has a lot of insight in US foreign policy and has tons of different stories about various things that you cover in the class. One of my first college teachers aand probably gonna be one of my best.
Professor Cole is very passionate about the subject he teaches and he is entertaining. His lectures and extra materials he he pulls into the classroom is very enjoyable and relevant. His tests are not for slackers -they are difficult, but he touches on all test information during class time. So attendance is critical to passing.Highly Recommended!
Very passionate about the subject. Enjoys what he does and is entertaining. Doesn't assign homework but does assign a ten page paper and countries and capitals test. I liked the class.
lectures the entire class then test you on stuff he didnt even cover. How much he requires you to remeber and have kowledge of is absolutley ridiculous. Avoid him if possible.
His material belongs in a meteorology class, not a geography class. The expectations he has for the exams are ridiculous, and often material appears on quizzes that were not covered in class. Avoid if possible.
Mr. Cole truly LOVES what he teaches. However, this may not always be good for the students, because he tends to speak quickly and in a way that may go over some students' heads. There is quite a lot of work to be done in this class, including a paper that is 10-20 pages. As long as you take the time and study, you will do well on the exams/quizes.
In this class you will be given and taught a lot of information. It takes work to keep up and understand. But if you do, you will do well. There is a "class project"-a paper about the media. This is a difficult class but you will learn a lot. Mr. Cole really enjoys his job and teaches with passion.
Is the 2nd to worst class I have taken out of over 100 credits. Instructor would not answer questions, is passionate but unable to pass that passion on. Maps were difficult for me to read even with magnifying glass. Will never take another class with him as instructor
I loved how organized this teacher was, he always provided study guides for each lecture and provided much detail in explaining the content of the subject, ensuring we were well educated and well prepared for exams. We were required to keep up with the reading in the text and when he lectured he would ensure to discuss the content in lecture. Great
The WORST CLASS I've ever taken. Avoid like the plague. It is a rather easy course(I never even opened the textbook), but the info is outdated (he admitted that he hadn't updated a test in 7 years) and mostly worthless. Not what you expect at all in a geography course- more about weather and climate than land or countries etc.
Definitely take notes, don't miss any lecture, study hard for his tests. He is passionate about the subject matter, speaks fast and stutters, gives out tons of handouts. This is not a class for a slacker.
Boring.
Honestly, this wasn't my favorite class. I did well, but didn't necessarily enjoy it. Take notes, pay attention, go to every class and start on your media paper ahead of time, and you'll be fine.
So so so bad. Kind of feel like this guy has too much information in his brain. Full 2 and a half hour lecture of him speaking incredibly fast and stuttering a lot. So hard to keep up. Tests are really hard to. Avoid this class if you can!
Way too much information...and not all of the information received is on the final...quizzes are easy and so is the paper. The text book in this class is not helpful at all and almost never pertains to what he is talking about. You don't understand something, he'll talk twice as fast.
It's a very lecture-heavy class, but he does his best not to be boring. There are only five assignments in the class- two quizzes, the mid term, the final, and a paper analyzing news sources, so it's not a heavy work load. If you've got a strong background in civil rights movements and how the government works you probably won't need the textbook.
Mr. Cole is very passionate about what he's teaching, he seems to get lost in his lectures though. He goes on and on and is not that specific and when he moves on or what he is talking about; and if he does it's still confusing. DO. NOT. TAKE. If you are not good with lectures, that's all he does. No assignments, just 2 quizzes, 2 exams, 1 paper.
Mr. Cole. What a character. He is so great. I took his class at 6:30 to 9:05 and he kept wide-awake and highly entertained. The information he covers is very interesting and he does it passionately. Awesome. Yes the whole 2.5 hours were lecture but great lecture. Make sure to take good notes. Best Class EVER! Not sure what's up with everyone else.
Mr. Cole is a nice guy, a little dorky but nice. He lectures for the entire class and does tend to mumble. I didn't really like the class as I felt he gave way more information then you really need. Don't waste money buying the text book. There is never an assignment with it. Don't miss a class as his lectures are what are on the tests.
Very long winded and strays off topic extremely often. Reads straight from the text book, but assigns nothing from the book. Either buy the book and go to class on test days, or do not buy the book and go every day. Very enthusiastic, maybe a bit too much.
I took him for National Gov't and Pol, and I really wish he would teach other classes. I didn't use his textbook and instead just used the AP Gov book, he goes over basically the same content if not more. There is a midterm and a final, one pretty long but easy research paper, and two quizzes. He lets you use a page of notes for his tests, too.
Funny guy, knows a lot can be serious and humorous and remains non bias in such a
Looong lectures on way more info than you need. Knows his stuff, which is interesting, but very difficult to understand due to his stuttering. When asking for help or assistance, comes across short, unhelpful and even condescending. Would never retake a class from him.
This guy is really funny and awkward! He is very passionate about his job so do your best to pay attention during his LONG lectures. I bought the text book but maybe only read a chapter of it...I probably would of done better is I read more, so READ!
I really enjoyed Mr. Cole's class and I would take him again. I wasn't ready for the lectures to be honest but as long as you attend and keep his handouts you should be fine. Allowed full page 1-side of notes for midterm and final, I Would have completely failed by now without that. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK, everything will be covered in LECTURE.
I would not recommend this class. He is very nice and has good intentions, but his lectures draw on for a very long time and he expected us to know information in exams that were not covered in lecture. There was no homework, which was not helpful since our grades were solely reliant on our exam and project score.
Long stories that serve little purpose. Does not prepare you well, and will throw things on the test that you've never heard of before. He stutters A LOT. He doesn't use the textbook. Other than amendments, the only thing I really retained was how bias televised media sources are. Take this class to get it over with, just not with him.
Cole's lectures are extremely long, often spanning a few class periods. The tests seem almost unrelated to the material covered in study guides. He is passionate about his subject material (government, in this case) and has an attitude you may or may not like. Don't miss class, either. Overall, this class is passable but DON'T take it with Cole.
one of the worst classes i have ever taken in my life. Cole is so confusing and hard to understand. tests are passable if you study the material well, but also sometimes the test has things not related to what we learned at all. i feel that this class would be more interesting if it was with a different teacher. also taking notes is important!!
If you aren't an auditory learner, you will struggle in this class. His lectures consist of 90% verbiage and no powerpoint or visuals to help follow along besides a poorly organized handout. He goes off on tangents and it's hard to stay awake and focused on his lectures. Fairly easy grader on papers though, and only about 4 assignments all quarter.
This was one of the hardest courses to sit through. Not because of the difficulty level but because each class is just a super long verbal lecture. He goes off on unimportant tangents all the time and is very monotone. There's a lot of information he gives but it's hard to follow and hard not to zone off in the middle of class.
DO Not take this class
I loved this teacher just because of the way he would talk. It's like he absolutely loves his job where he's supposed to drone on about the history of politics and the constitution for 2 hours. It's a boring class but he has such a strange personality that it evens it out.
Professor Cole is quite engaging during lecture time. He makes 2.5 hour class time seem productive. The information he gives during lecture is WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST. Funny dude, he is quite the teacher!
Mr. Cole was an AMAZING teacher! He is extremely passionate about politics and is very knowledgeable in his field. However, you must work hard to get a solid A. He has one seven page, single-spaced paper due at the end of the quarter, and allows you to have a two-sided sheet of notes for each exam. I highly recommend him as a professor.
An amazing professor overall. Tries his hardest to make sure that students are successful. Interesting lectures, but make sure to pay attention and stay engaged or you will get behind quickly.
The whole class is a lecture. He has a quiz, two midterms, a final, and a research paper. That is the only thing he grades, however. He does take attendance when he plays a movie, and he does that after midterms. allows a full front and back of a notebook sheet for tests. Good prof, just a lot of lecturing. Tests are easy if you take good notes
really great i love him hes really nice and helps a lot
Took George last year before I knew what I wanted to major in. I had interests in politics and still the class was extremely eye opening. He really cares about the subject and educating the future of our county. If you took American government in high school like the rest of us the class is a breeze.
All-in-all a real good professor. Assignments include in-class exams, in-class quizzes, and one 6-7 page (single spaced!) term paper. I think the term paper is a little too demanding given the level of class, but he was very flexible about submission date and provided many example papers. Come to class, take good notes, study & work on your paper.
Doesn't restate main points of his lectures well, and he can tend to stutter, which is a bit of an issue if your class revolves around lectures. If you need examples and restating to retain knowledge it can be a bit tricky sometimes.
Overall this class was probably the worst one Ive taken at Clark. The professor will yell randomly in the middle of his sentances and will stutter a lot which isnt great considering this class is lecture based. His lectures are boring and I had trouble staying awake during his class. I do not recommend taking this class with this teacher.
He really grew on me, I wasn't sure in the beginning but he really is the epitome of a caring person. He cares about politics and his students so much. He is akward but he's also very sincere and kind. He makes it so easy to pass this class. He gives handouts and extra reading materials so you can do well. I can't imagine anyone not passing...
George Cole might be the best teacher I've ever had. The passion he has is truly inspiring. I learned so much in his class even though I didn't want to take Political Science. Pay attention to everything he says in class! His stories are important too, they can show up on tests so don't miss class. He does everything in person.
Dont buy the textbook. He copies the notes from the note packet he gives you straight on to the white board so theres no need to take notes in class. Maybe just a few on the margins. His tests are confusing because they dont include many questions that you could answer from your notes. Most of the time you just have to guess.
He's actually a pretty good teacher once you get past the fact that your eardrums may potentially be damaged after finishing his class. Tends to rant alot, but at least he has some pretty valid points, is really passionate about government. Don't buy the textbook. Take all the notes and save the handouts. And pray you do well on the tests
Nice guy and very passionate but one of the worst professors Ive had. The tests are unclear and hard to pass even though you can take it at home. His lectures are extremely hard to follow and put you to sleep. The final paper is single spaced and 6-7 pages long. I love writing but this assignment makes me never want to write again. Dont take!
The class I took, POL SCI 111, is a VERY lecture heavy class. You would need to be a person who is very interested in politics. I took this class because I needed my credits but it was definitely no easy task. No assignments besides heavy weighted tests and a term paper. I have gotten straight As in all my other classes besides this one.
Very clear on what he wants done. He does give extra time and accepts late work. Definitely would have him again as a professor!
There were so many readings and videos that needed to be done.
Professor Cole is very passionate about what he does. The mid term paper is long so I would start as soon as possible. He provides a lot of information to help you with your tests and paper in canvas. Overall a great teacher, I enjoyed his class.
A fun, passionate and pundit of a teacher. I truly enjoyed lectures, he makes them interesting. However the workload in this class is next to impossible. Textbook, videos, articles, canvas notes and beyond just to get the basics. The wording on tests is unclear and difficult. Fine details of info matter in this class!
This class was very difficult for me, and requires a lot of effort. It's not an easy A and involves lots of reading and constructing thoughtful posts. However, he makes sure to respond to your posts every week with feedback and will thoughtfully correct any information you may have got wrong. Very caring professor, dedicated to teaching.
A Yale graduate would have difficulty with the unnecessary workload Cole requires. His extremely opinionated views lead to papers that need to be written with his perspective in mind unless you want a C in the class. Very poor teaching skills, I can understand why he could only get a job at a Community College.
Professor Cole is passionately opinionated. The sources he requires you to read/watch are left leaning insinuating his progressive views. May be a problem for some. A lot of work! Don't pay attention to his "lectures." Focus on sources and discussions. Get to take tests twice. Book is unnecessary compared to what he teaches. Final paper is A LOT!
I found his classes very educational! To this day, there are things that pop up in the news & I draw on knowledge from his classes. Details on water vs oil demand in the future, learned from him. Details about the Suez Canal, learned in his class. Mr. Cole is a professor I remember because I truly learned. Amazing teacher! Hope he teaches forever.
For me this class was easy. I got by with minimal effort but doesn't mean it was not hard. Lots of readings and things but they are not 100% needed. I recommend!
He was very realistic, forgiving, and understanding. A textbook was required for my course but there were so many sources he gave that I never used it. our lectures mainly came from crash course. If you missed a discussion post you could make it up with full points, and you can take quizzes infinite times. Overall the class was not too difficult!
Professor Cole gives GREAT feedback! He clearly actually cares about making sure students understand information and gives us many opportunities to raise our grades (unlimited tries on quizzes, two tries on exams, etc.). Be prepared to read quite a bit, but as long as you put in the effort, his courses will be extremely helpful!
Professor Cole is great. He is friendly and approachable, so don't be afraid to email him questions. Gives opportunities to make up work if you ask. He is pretty bias, which may be frustrating for some students but it is easy to get by. The tests are open notes, book, lectures and you can retake as many times as you want. Discussion posts are hard.
Cole's online class suffers from a lack of tech-savviness that's evidence throughout the course. He's an older person tho, so I get it. His lectures can be sporadic, so I don't recommend taking his class if you dislike unorganized professors. He's very passionate about his work though, he'll work with you as long as you actually put in the work. :)
Mr. Cole was nice but we did not interact much since it was an online course. Be prepared for lots of reading. STUDY the material. I will admit that it is hard to find answers online. It is easiest if you use the material he provides for you.
One nice thing is he answers his emails quickly. But he is super bais and doesn't care to hide it. You have to form to his views. The amount of work (reading, watching, writing, testing) is insane! Very overwhelming.
So we had discussions and quizzes literally every week and a total of 4 exams. He has a lot to read (lectures, articles and movies to watch). It has unlimited weekly quiz attempts. He gave good grades, although I understood that I did not deserve this grade. He doesn't leave many reviews. You will also have a PAPER TERM and start it ASAP
You will have weekly discussions and quizzes. For the weekly quizzes have infinite attempts. Use them and get 100%. You'll have four exams where you'll only get two attempts. Look up George Cole on Quizlet for help. You'll have a final test and midterm paper as well.
He was pretty self-centered(on the first day he said how lucky we were to have him as a teacher) and only provided sources that supported his view and did not like when people disagreed with him. Each week there is a quiz and a discussion post(about 800 words and responses), you have to cite biased sources he provides. Lectures were hard to follow.
I took this class online. On assignments his directions can seem clear and strict, however in my experience it was very loose. I'd get perfect grades for discussions that I know I hadn't fulfilled all the criteria for and sometimes get 40/45 when I thought that I had. He also has a clear political view and expects you to have it as well.
Amazing teacher, but the work is very article and video-based. Start the Term Paper the first week of class.
You could be vegetablized and still pass this fellas class. He copies and pastes his response every week and I guarantee if you mess up a little or a lot you will get 43/45 on your discussion.
There was quite a bit of work, (weekly discussion post, 2 replies, and a quiz), and a term paper that is pretty difficult! (2300-3000 words). The sources he provided were quite biased, but not impossible to stomach. He was a quick responder, and seemed pretty nice! (I didn't really get to know him very well, as I was taking an online class.)
Kind & professional. Semi-flexible if you have a good reason or are barely behind ~1 day. The teacher notes are an ESSENTIAL read, especially for discussions and tests. There was 1 lengthy term paper that I remember. WARNING - discussion posts are LONG. If you aren't an adequate writer, reconsider. With the proper reading, this class is doable. :)
I genuinely don't understand why he has super bad reviews. The workload was not crazy in my opinion. Yes he gave us a ton of articles and films to read/watch but you would be fine skimming them. One weekly discussion and quiz. There was a term paper with straight forward questions to answer. I would say I spent 8 hours max on his class each week.
If you're religious or right-leaning, he probably won't like you, his lectures are pretty biased against them, but I honestly brushed it off my shoulder. Took this class during election season so it was extra fun, actually learned so much in this class. The documentaries he assigns are amazing. Be prepared to write a TON for discussions, 5-7 hrs.
Professor Cole's POL111 class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of reading and assignments, but he provides helpful feedback. Using unstuckstudy and Quizlet made studying more efficient. Overall, a great class if you're willing to put in the work.
I liked learning from Professor Cole. He's an older teacher on the cusp of retiring with LOTS of knowledge and is very eager to share that knowledge with students. His lectures are rambling and there is A LOT of reading and documentaries to watch, but you will learn so much if you do the work and do the reading and watching. Do the work, get an A.
Don't get me wrong, Professor Cole was very nice but his work load is a lot. Each week you have a discussion which are 800-1000 words but you always end up going over because of all of the evidence and required sources you have to use. On top of this you have a term paper that is 2,300 to 3,000 and 19 required sources. Articles are biased too.
This course is ten weeks long. Over the course of these ten weeks, you are expected to write: 7 weekly discussion posts. Minimum 600-800 word count 2 weekly responses. Minimum 300-600 word count. 1 Term Paper; Minimum 2,500 words. For a total of 17,100 words MINIMUM for the entire course. This standard is unreasonable for a level 100 class.
I literally dropped his class because of the sheer volume of work assigned. Second week we were given a total of 30 some articles to read and videos to watch, to answer JUST the discussion post. He also recommended that we start working on the final paper in the FIRST week of class, otherwise we would fall behind. Articles were also clearly biased.
Professor Cole is a good grader, gives clear feedback and doesn't assign a ton of unimportant homework. I'm taking his online class, and it's been a breeze. Just read the lectures and do your best understand it. He provides tons of resources too for discussion posts and the essay.
There is a lot of articles and the weekly discussions need like 800 words however, you don't even need to read all of the articles. You can just skim through them or like grab a random quote from one of them. He is a pretty light grader.
