He's got what I like to call "simple life complex" where he makes his boring life interesting by failing students without their knowledge so he can watch them squirm to drop the class before the deadline.
Makes everything seem so easy when in fact, it's very difficult. He also had a way of making you feel dumb when you asked a question. Not very encouraging.
He might be the worse instructor I have ever taken. He does not care if he leaves students behind or fails them. I will give him credit for knowing the subject very well, but that only goes so far. Don't miss class and beware of the Borg water bottle.
This class is really easy if you remember every trick from calculus 2..really good teacher if you just look past him speaking in a monotone voice...tests are fair nothing to crazy.
He is pretty good, was very helpful and clarifies even the simplest of your doubts. Tests and homework are pretty straightforward.
This teacher is horrable beware! He really could care less about the students he is more worried about making himself sound smart.
I took the class as an elective becuase I love math! And he graded soooo unfairly that out of 40 students 12 were left and no one got a grade over C!!!! DONT TAKE HIM!!
I got an easy A...just had pay attention and show up.

Absolutely horrible. If you have any sort of difficulty learning math avoid him! His grading is completely absurd and he is the most boring teacher you'll have. I think about 7 of 40 finished the class that should tell you something.
I would not say he is a mean person or uncaring but he is extremely unrelenting when it comes to his grading and expectations for his students. I would say you need to be willing to study at least 2 hours a day to get an A and also not make any mistakes on his tests because they are the only graded part of the class.
Very bad teacher ever! Based everything on exams. He couldn't help me dispite going to his office several times. I would advice you to take Amadou Gaye or Dr Santilli for calculus.
Worst experiance of my life, I wish I would have taken neely. out of 30 students about 5 are going to pass with a grade of c or better, 1 student might get a (b), no one is close to an A
Teaching style: Authoritarian. Voice ussage is very monotone. He wasn't helpfull in the various learning styles. 2 weeks in half the class was already lost.
I had Dr. Cole for differential equations. He knows his math inside and out. He was always willing to help me with any questions I had. This is not an easy math class and it requires a lot of outside work, but I enjoyed the class and thought he was a good instructor.
Go to class, do the suggested work and addapt to his tests quickly and you should be fine. A very good teacher to take for the higher math levels.
The class will quickly dwindle because it's not an easy A (it's math). Show up for class and do your homework! GO TO HIS OFFICE EARLY IN THE SEMESTER, it helps to let him know that you are trying even if you aren't getting the best grade! Overall he's a great teacher and you will appreciate his dry sense of humor throughout his lectures.
Very good teacher, easy going and quiet. If you come to school prepared to work you will pass the class. However, if you slackkk! for too long you will get into a hole that you cannot climb out of.
Amazingly vague, he uses mathematical jargon that seems to confuse everyone. Smart guy, terrible teacher.
horrible teacher.. worst math teacher i have had thus far.. do not take his class
I had him for Calc 2,3 and differential equations. He is a good teacher and very helpful. He will help you out of class if you need it also. I don't agree with some of his methods, like having to remember 100 equations for Differential equations of which I remember 0 today. So whats the use. I am a CSE now, I have never used any of them.
CALC IS HARD and he won't dumb it down. But he is very clear and great at answering questions. Test scores are fair reflections of who has put in the time. Show up to class. Do ALL the SUGGESTED homework. If you don't understand stuff: ASK, even if in office hours. Lazy students will fail quickly. Good ones will be well-prepared for higher classes.
The worst teacher I have ever had. Everyone I hear talking about how they have to drop a class because the teacher is so bad has been talking about Mr. Cole. I am good at math and he makes it confusing and complicated. I took the class again this semester with a different teacher and she makes it so easy to understand. I LOVE Mrs. St. Amand!!
He is a very quiet and kind guy, he knows his math very well. There are five text including the final, nothing else goes in the grade book, you fail one you fail the class. No extra credit. Do the suggested homework study at least two hours a day. Ask questions and I'm pretty sure you'll pass.
Very monotone and does not explain the material well.
excellent
has odd way of teaching material, pretty shady in examples. students find mistakes, he blames his mishaps on his "audience" (the class)
He is very quiet and knows his math, however his own techniques are not the easiest route for non-math minded thinkers. The tests are much harder then the homework he goes over on the board, and homework doesn't count so once you realize it doesn't help the entire class stops doing it. Nice guy but I recommend not taking this class.
This is a hard class. You have to study a lot. his only grades for the class is his tests. Which really suck but i guess its college. This is the kind of class you can not slack off in. He offers no extra credit and grades his very strict on his tests. Not very clear on his lectures either so i had to keep going to my book for help
Terrible teacher! Could not understand anything he was explaining and when I asked for help he just confused me even more. He is also very boring and you have to really refer to the book if you want to learn anything.
He is cool. He knows how to solve and smart. We dont need to hand in the math homework but just need to practice ourselves. And he spends couple mins every class to explain da homework and one review class day. Well math is not easy, the more its hard , the more it becomes interesting. :)
I don't know why, but his method of teaching really worked for me. He explains things pretty clearly, and there was only one really tough spot in the class I can remember. He goes over homework at the beginning of class, so be SURE to speak up if you have any questions. It really helps.
...don't take this class
terrible teacher.. don't ever think to take the class..(((a5o manioka)))
dont take him
While only 5 tests and a final make up your grade, the tests are fair (just to demonstrate that you know how to do the basic problems) and not as hard as the hw. Hw is not graded - do it anyway, or fail, just like any math class. Ask questions from the hw at the start of class, or visit his office hours. He's helpful. I would take his class again.
I have taken trig 4 times, was at class everyday, did all the homework, and still got a D. That is how confusing Dr. Coole is. Only tests are graded so if you fail one test you can fail the entire class. I literally went from a 89% to a 68% in 3 weeks. The textbook is clearer then his lectures are. I do not reccommend.
most horrible math teacher i have ever had. I have never had trouble in math until i enrolled in his class. He explains the sections but wont use simpler, understandable terms. goes over homework and answers questions but does not do any form of review for the test. you will have to remember everything from the past 7 or 8 sections and test onthem.
He knows what he's doing. Doesn't know how to teach a class to do what he's doing. Worst math teacher to date.
This teacher is average. Just prepeare to fail the chapter 3 test because that is the hardest topic to understand. He talks really quietly, so it's best to sit up front. Make sure to study the chapters and notes as well. There are a few notes that are not mentioned in the book. Good Luck to all.
He likes to confuse his students in his exams. He considers exams as a punishment to his students and he has fun confusing them. He doesnt tell u anything about the final exam so he expects u to study the whole book while the final is only a combination of the prev. Tests
I wanted to advocate for Dr. Cole so badly because he is absolutely genius when it comes to mathematics. However, after taking the pre-calculus midterm I cannot recommend him due to the SEVERITY of difficulty he administers. I studied for around 30 hours for this midterm and the test was so hard that I didn't even get to finish 30% of it.He is HARD
DON'T take his class. He's the worstest teacher I'd ever meet.He speak like a fly and he never make anything clear. You will never know what his saying cause you will soon fail asleep. However, if you are planning to learn by yourself and attend class everyday, just take his class. What I strongly suggest is NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I really suggest that not to take his class.
Do not take this class!!! Cole doesn't allow calculators and some problems hard to do without it. He only grades tests and are too long for the 50 minutes of class, they are impossible to finish. He finds it funny to trick you on the tests. Some test questions are never seen in his examples, that he does in class. Take him if you want an F.
If you're good at mat, it's ok. If you're not, Don't.
First few weeks the class was good, and Mr. Cole was helpful. But when we began learning actual Calculus he just kept referring to College Algebra, and Trig. No matter what you study, it won't be on the test. He also focuses on things that don't show up on the test. Take another teacher!!!
Worst class I've ever taken. He doesn't give practice test and never makes it clear on what we need to study for the test. He jumps from topic to topic when taking notes so nothing is ever clear. Do not take this class and if you get him just drop.
Mr. Cole was a great guy, but he lacked guidance for his students. The key to his class is what the syllabus says. He's already planned out the whole semester, so keep up with him. If you don't keep up on your study time you will fail his class.
This guy gets a bad rep, but he's actually very competent. He does not make classes for people with mathematical difficulty or who want to be spoon fed. Myself, I'm terrible at math, but did okay. However, his grading scale is terrible: 4-6 tests, NO chance to make up. But, contrary to accusations, the material on the tests ARE covered in class.
G. Cole makes his class very difficult. Your grade is only tests and lectures are hard to understand. The class is taught as if we already know the material. I do not recommend taking this professor for trig.
Having been in his class for a semester for College Algebra and testing into Calc. I found it very difficult to understand his style of teaching due to his monotone voice and lack of being able to deliver the content as needed clearly. My best advice is if you're looking for a good teacher to teach well and to be helpful, to look elsewhere
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken, But if you are a major that you need to know the math you are taking like the back of your hand, this is you professor. If not, I would not recommend taking it with him
This professor is too smart for his own good. He probably shouldn't be teaching College Algebra and should be teaching Calc. He breezes through problems without explaining step for step. His voice is so quiet and monotone that you could barely hear him when your in the front of the class room. He puts the hardest problems from lessons on the test.
First: There is a lot of material to go through with MAT 150, which I personally don't think is fair for anyone involved. Second: Prof. Cole seemed really bored while teaching this class, which made me feel sad for him.
This is by far the worst teacher I have EVER had! He doesn't care about your grade or learning ability at all! He is basically a robot that grades his 6 question exams as strictly as possible. And if you miss one of those questions on the test, you basically fail the test because it is so short! There is no homework to turn in, so no extra credit!
Nice guy, but he seemed bored with the class. He's too smart for his own good and teaches the class like we already know how to do everything. You don't get to turn in the assigned homework, its just for practice so there's no buffer for all THREE of the 8 QUESTION tests.
Professor Cole wasn't a bad teacher. You just have to work for the grade like he actually says in the beginning. Take notes, study the notes, and do the homework. It does suck though that he doesn't take any other work into consideration, besides tests. So study hard and pay attention.
I love math, but I found his teaching style to be very simplistic and unhelpful. He's very vague, even if you ask to clarify, he won't be able to give you a much clearer explanation. His tests are 100% of your grade, and if you get everything right, you may get a C on it. We started with 30+ students, and a small handful barely managed to pass.
I really liked his class. He's a tough teacher, don't get me wrong, but he makes you really learn the stuff, which is important! If you pay attention, do the homework (even if it isn't for a grade), and ask questions then you will really learn the stuff he's teaching!
Doesn't explain things with clarity, grade is based only on tests. The test are filled with questions with little to do with the matterial learned. I lf you actually learn something.
Ineffective in conveying the material. Does not test based on the material covered in class. Does not give extra credit or a grade for homework. All grades are based solely on tests which are unpredictable in format and content. As others have said, this instructor focuses more on trig and algebra than calculus and lacks preperation, himself.
He wasn't a bad teacher as long as you did the homework. Your whole grade was based on 5 tests and a final, so not a lot of wiggle room for error. But the tests were based off of the notes. Study, study, and study. If you study, you will be fine.
He is really good at teaching. Beware, this course is really hard and is all based off tests, but if you want a teacher that wants you to understand the material, he is the teacher for you.
Very difficult class, but you will know math well if you pass. He makes you memorize EVERYTHING and only lets you use a calculator on two test. Only grades are 5 tests and a final. No room for error so do not mess up or fall behind or you are not going to make it. He is a very nice guy but I would never take his class again.
Very nice guy, not meant to teach. Only things in the gradebook: 5 tests that are 14%, and a final worth 30%. Fail one test, and it's extremely hard to get your grade back up. There are no quizzes or homework, or really anything that's hands on enough to actually learn anything. Before withdrawing I taught myself everything from the textbook.
goes straight from the book for his lectures, so theres no point of going to lecture since u can just read the book which takes 4 minutes to get the key concepts. he doesnt know how to respond if you have a question. voice is monotone. grades you only off of your exams. confuses you more than if you just learned on ur own. Exams are terribly made
Vague, and homework doesnt relate to test content.
Does a terrible job relating himself to the class. He is awkward and speaks with a monotone voice. Does not seem to care about student success and test material is much harder and different than what is assigned for homework. Your grade is based off of 5 tests and a final and homework is layed out in the syllabus with a ridiculous amount everynight
Honestly made a mistake not checking his website. He is a smart guy but sucks at teaching. Wont learn much. Probably will have to teach yourself. Only grades in class are the exams and his exams are hard. No multiple choice not even for the final. Written out answers and has like 6 questions each exam. Would not recommend.
If you're a bad test taker I do not recommend taking this class. He doesn't let you use a calculator and he doesn't round test scores. Not to mention he assigns homework that will not be taken for a grade or be collected so there's no incentive to do it. I hated this class and his teaching styles were terrible.
He's honestly not a bad person. He has office hours all week and is always willing to help. The problem is that he often teaches math in the way he sees the numbers. He's super smart but when he teaches it just doesnt translate well. 5 exams are basically the only grades you get. Doesn't grade homework but do the problems if you wanna pass!
This course is more for those who learn at a fast pace. His exams are not that hard if you do the homework and ask questions. He will not collect any of the homework but if you don't do it though your pretty much wasting your time because that all the practice you get. There's also NO study guides for the exams but they're really straight forward.
I wish I could have a personal one on me with everyone thinking of taking this class just to warn them not to. Test grade are realistically your only grade and you learn several things in one class with no practice problems other than the walkthroughs he does on the board. Rip.
Dr. Cole is a very nice man, however, as an instructor, I do not recommend him. His office hours were outside of my availability, but he simply is very hard to learn from. He was so quiet my entire class, that we had to try to record him with a mic. Unless you're prepared to study 3 hours a day just for him, I don't suggest him.
great class! your entire grade is based on 4 test and the final. the class may not be very exciting but George does a good job at explaining all the information for the tests, and he is very nice. I would personally give the difficulty a 1.5, but for someone that is unfamiliar with precalculus its probably a little difficult.
I took this class as a live-online option and let me say, he is very hard to sit through in lectures. Very monotone and quiet, but the worst is that his teaching style was essentially: read off notes, ask a question, someone in the chat answers, and then he moves on. he doesn't explain it very well, but they attendance was thankfully optional.
Good guy, really knows his stuff. Tests are worth 80%
He's a great professor. He teaches well and always open to any questions. He not hard, no crazy test no presentation for a math class. He gives feedback on the questions you miss. He's very lenient as well. You just need to make sure you do the homework which is not hard then you'll ace his class. I'm definitely taking his class again!
Professor Cole lacks the ability to engage the class while lecturing and will confuse you on topics you already know. If you take this class the online textbook will be your best friend. He also adds random things to the quizzes/tests that werent on the study guides or topic lists. He also lectured through a lockdown drill..
Professor George Cole is a respectable man, respectable teacher, and he inspired me to love math. Math is hard, it takes time/effort to learn it and understand it in a general sense. You should not take math online, you should actively participate. This isn't English class.
just dont do it
Cole is a good guy in general, but isn't the best at teaching. Will do walkthroughs on the board, but when it comes to reviews, we have to ask instead of going over as a class. Graded on quizzes and exams only. No actual homework is graded. Everyone in the class have a low C or below
good guy. his voice is super high and hard to understand. i dropped because of that and couldnt follow his lectures.
He is respectable within the knowledge that he has, but he doesn't explain/ teach very well. The only grades you will have are quizzes every thursday, 6 tests, and the final exam. He is a harsh grader and does NOT allow calculators. I would recommend him for higher courses, however, he should not be teaching a beginner course.
He does not allow retakes, extra credit, or calculators. He relies heavily on tests and quizzes. I would recommend not taking this class.
Never in my life have I ever thought it was necessary to leave a bad review about anyone or anything, but this changed my mind. He can be very polite, but he is probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Do NOT take this class if you want to learn algebra, because you will probably fail. The class had around 25 people, and it ended w/ 11.
I have never made a comment on rate my professor until this class. He does not allow calculators and does all homework from textbooks which are way harder than what he does in class. If you do not understand the textbook your grade will drop so fast. When he does his lectures his teaching style is quite hard to follow and is confusing. Hard class.
i've never made a review until talking this class. doesn't allow calculators, puts problems on board then solves and erases , doesnt show step by step to solve problems. tests are different from what you learn, doesnt allow retakes or calculators. if you wanna learn algebra dont take this class. wouldnt recommend.
I wouldn't recommend this class unless you're strong in math and can handle serious pressure. The professor explains well, but your grade is entirely based on tough exams — no extra credit, no flexibility. It's frustrating when there's no way to recover.
He is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had, He drones through his lesson plan without showing solving steps and doesn't allow any sort of calculator or provide extra resources to compensate for his bad teaching. Your grade in the class solely depends on how you do on exams with no homework grades. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Worst professor ever! I'm telling you don't take him! You're gonna fail
He's a very nice guy but not good at engaging with the classroom and does not explain things step by step nor explain things slowly/ carefully. If you aren't the best at math, do not take the class.
