This class just plain stinks, the average on tests is usually in the 60's.
Class is not very interesting, but he will keep you interested - very funny! Hard to follow outline of notes sometimes
No Comments
Helps if you have knowledge of some Chemistry and Biology prior to taking Cells Genes Molecules. He does skip around, so notes aren't continuous. Nice guy and tries to help; ask specific questions. Test averages were 60s - 70s, but top 5% make own final
Don't let these goof**** fool you. Dr. Davis is a very clear prof. One of the easier A's I earned. Just go to class, pay attention, take good notes, and do the online quizes. You'll do well.
He is a horrible teacher. He jumps around a lot. I studied hard for his tests and still did bad. The class average on his tests were a 60. This class is boring and it sucks.
the class average is in the 50-60's. he makes the class fun but his exams are hard and he doesn't help too much.
He gets off topic alot and is very un clear I hate bio points!!!
Very hard class, he teaches off of powerpoint and all of the tests are off of the book, not a very good teacher, doesnt know how to explain anything but he is a nice guy :)
As others have said he jumps around too much, tests are just thrown together from a test index he has and the class average is between 60-70....what kinda class is that? Dont take him for cells
this teacher is horrible. Dont get me wrong he's a nice guy and all, you just cant understand a word that comes out of his mouth because it is sooooo unclear. The averages were around 60, just trust me dont take him!!!
he can be funny but occasionally he loses track of the topic. he's ok

I thought Prof Davis was a great teacher, in fact Ec and Ev was my fav class this semester. He's funny and interesting, and even though his tests are a little challenging, its not that bad, it's college! I think it was a good class and i suggest it to any one needing gen eds.
great prof
He is a great teacher you people that gave him bad ratings are pussies. Maybe if ya studied a little more and ****ed a little less you would do better. Its real school now kids!
He is an okay teacher. He seems to really enjoy his job and always has a positive attitude. He likes to add humor into his lectures so well. His tests are hard but if you pay attention and study hard, you'll do fine. Don't be afraid to ask questions because he's always willing to answer them.
Davis is a great and funny guy. His tests are challenging, but do-able. I wouldn't say anything bad about his teaching skills; he is very helpful towards the students. Great guy! :o)
Class is a little difficult, but if you attend every class you should be ok. Tests are tricky but manageable. Make sure you read the chapters and you should be fine
Not a fun guy. He sucks. Tests REALLY tricky!
Great guy, always making class fun..but tests were horrible..i knew the material and still managed to do bad on tests..but i was always interested on what eh had to say
Good teacher i thought and the class is pretty easy if you go to class and read the few articles before the test it is an easy B if not A. I recommend
This class was hard to get used to. The first test everyone did poorly on, but he said he's never had a class average above a 70 on the 1st test. Go to the website from the book and print the chapter outlines and questions and study from those and the notes and you'll do fine. He's a very nice man and tries his best to help you out.
Easy class with an easy teacher. Show up and pay attention and you'll get an A.

Very good class, learned alot, test were moderate but easy if you study. Great prof
Not bad class, the tests are basically on everything but not too demanding. He is a nice guy but not that great at helping when doing experiments etc.
Great guy, has a smile on his face everytime he walks in. Makes the class worth it.
One of the greatest professors I've ever had at school. His class is really interesting if you can stand thinking outside the box. A lot of info to remember, but a good grade is possible. He is a great guy. I plan on taking more of his classes. Kind of reminds me of Harry Carey in his prime.
very good teacher, keeps you interested, actually learn from lectures
I think he's a good teachers. You just have to take notes.
great guy and great professor. take the notes, and pay attention. tests are average, study and you should be alright. reading the book helps but can easilly get by without the reading. they just help a little. looking foward to taking another class with him. this class is recommended
Very interesting class, really good teacher, keeps you awake, definently read and study the terms and pay attention and it is enjoyable
awesome teacher!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! If you have to take cells genes and molecules, take him. He makes it as simple as he can and is so happy all the time, always laughing and just gives you a good vibe. Kepp you on your toes. Love his class!!!!! and I hate BIO....ha
I found it really enjoyable, never missed a class. Grades fairly, what you get is what you get. Questions on tests come mainly from lectures. Keeps you entertained - and he's a "hoot!"
Amazing professor! He's always smiling, and really knows what he's talking about, and gets everyone excited about it because he loves it so much! If you have to take a bio, take this one!
I really enjoyed this class. It is fairly easy, and your grade reflects time spent in class. He makes the material very interesting, and knows what he is talking about. He answers questions clearly and is very helpful. Over all i give this guy two thumbs WAY up.
Great Professor...makes a difficult class much easier...I had M. Diltz for biology and had to withdraw from the class...I got an A in this class! Very understanding and willing to help...a good singer too!
Fun class but tests are hard. He makes it a good class.
Dr. Davis was a good guy but I think it's pretty unfair to base a grade on only three tests and a final. Also it seemed like the same peole kept getting opportunities for extra credit, which I found a bit unfair. Like I said nice guy, but I definitely wouldn't take him again.
didnt have the book so, class was difficult for me. not necessary to have book, but probably would have done better. I did pass the class. Davis is very enthusiastic and loves what he does.
i hated this class. i felt his powerpoints were unclear and his topics jumped around a lot. he's a nice guy, but i dont feel he made sure the material was understood. average scores on tests were in the mid to low C range
Dr. Davis was the best teacher I have had so far, he was a very amazing man and if you come to class Ecology and Evolution is a breeze. I have much respect for this man and his humor, if you need to take bio courses make sure you take them with Dr. Davis you will not regret it!!!
Go to class. There is no attendance policy, but if you miss, you will not do well on the tests and those = your grade. Very funny and very entertaining professor.
He's a really nice guy and makes class interesting. Even though he doesn't take attendence, GO TO CLASS! If you don't, you most likely won't do well on the exams, and the exams are your only grades. The tests are on the hard side, but if you study you'll do fine.
He is hilarious, and easy to make fun of. The class is hard to understand because of all the technical terms. Go to class or you'll be lost! The tests are difficult because he words the questions weird. You can get extra credit for showing up to class and answering a question correctly if he calls on you.
Probably the best teacher in the science department. All science classes are hard, but Davis at least is eager to teach and keeps you focused on learning. It's that or attempt to learn from some boring monotonous prof that will put you to sleep, there are few easy streets in science land. Highly recommended.
Such a nice guy. Really enjoys teaching and wants the best for his students. He made sure if anyone had problems that they got help!!
He is a good guy, but not the best teacher. The only way I got an A is because i went to a tutor. Without the tutor, I would have been lost. I suggest taking this class, but if you have trouble find a tutor and you'll be fine. Overall, its a good and interestign class
good class, and a good guy. most of the test comes from the notes. SO GO TO CLASS. can be a little on the hard side at times it seems but overall it's not too bad. Just make sure you take the time to study for the tests
Really nice. I thought the class was hard. I got a tutor and went to his office hours and improved my grade alot. If you need help he will help you. Dont under estimate his test they can be hard. Study and go to class or you will be lost.
Hard class! Especially if you are an education major and have no interest in the class. Overall it wasn't a bad class but tests are hard. He doesn't try to trick you but you really need to know the material for the tests! Class is optional but it definitely helps if you go to classes and see him during office hours if you need help!
Ecology and Evolution with Davis is rediculous. The class is kinda boring, he tells you straight out he doesnt teach to the test which is 100% true, he says he isnt trying to trick you on the tests but there are alot of trick questions. If you dont have to take this class I wouldn't bother with Davis its extremely difficult.
i had him for genes, cells, and molecules and the class was rather difficult. you really need to study and know the material for the test, he puts on trick questions. you don't really need to go to class but read the book!
I didnt think I would like this class, but I ended up getting an A and was in the top 5 percent of the class that got out of the final. His tests are hard, but if you study, really study it is possible to get A's. The tests material come from more then just in class notes, go back and make your own notes combining the book w/ class notes. IT HEL
Dr. Davis is a good professor and really tries to make the class interesting. However if you are looking for an easy gen ed I do not recommend this class because it is a bit difficult unless you are already a science genius. You don't need the book but it really helped me out.
I found this class to be incredibly easy and I am terrible at science classes. Prior to the first test I went to about 5 classes, then attended the first test. The next 3 classes I went to were: Test 2, Test 3, and the Final. If you just do the course website quizes you will be fine. I got an A- going to less than 10 classes.
He is such a nice guy, and a great teacher. the class is a little difficult, but as long as you study you will be fine. and if you go to his office hours he will bend over backwords so that you understand the material. Hes the best!
Dr.Davis is a very nice man. He doesnt make class mandatory but i def reccomend going. I found his tests to be kinda difficult! I failed the first one got a d on the second and a b on the 3rd..The class can get boring but most of the time its interesting. Its not too bad.
I found Dr. Davis an awful teacher. This class is very hard and I felt like he didn't try to help us out very much. For the final, we have no study guide and all he said was it'll be from units 1-3. Its like he wants us to fail. Absolutely awful class. And he just reads straight from the damn powerpoint.
He is the worst professor I have had so far. He read straight from the powerpoint and had no interest in actually trying to teach. He is a nice man, but he should be a scientist, not a professor. If you have him and you're bad at science, drop it. Or get a tutor.
Dr. Davis is without a doubt one of the greatest teachers ive had. I HATE science and am horrible at it, but strangely found myself understanding the material because he taught it well and was passionate about it. If you go to class and make an attempt to understand, passing shouldnt be a problem, i got an A. He has a wicked sense of humor too!
Great guy. Laughs at himself a lot but absolutely loves what he teaches. Class itself was pretty boring and the tests are very hard. He doesn't give out study guides so your really on your own. Especially the final since its completely comprehensive.
Davis was an extreeemmmly hard professor. I had to dedicate 2 weeks to study for a test and I still didnt do well. I reccomend the tests he posts on BOLT. Sometimes he will give you a break and paste questions on there. PS get a tutor
Davis was absolutely the best! No doubt about it, he challenges you, but loves what he teaches and makes a potentially boring subject fascinating. BTW, I don't know what those people below are talking about-he NEVER just reads from the powerpoints, definitely keeps you on your toes. If you have to take science, I highly recommend him!
Personally, Davis was the worst professor i ever had. He read straight from the power points and would ask us questions before class started that he never even taught us. He brought a guitar to class and sang to us for no reason on time too. Hes very strange. If you can get out of cells, genes, and molecules, DROP IT OR DON'T TAKE IT!
took the CGM class during my sr year of high school. davis definitely gave me a good preview of what college would be like. i absolutely LOVED his class. davis is a great prof!!! if you pay attention in class, you will easily ace his tests and the class. he is always willing to meet with you outside of class, even generic conversation.
I don't know what some of these guys are talking about. Davis NEVER just reads from the slides, you always need to be in class and pay attention. He requires that you think small and you REALLY need to understand the material to take his test (it's mostly application questions). Also he sang to introduce us to genetics, it made perfect sense to me
Love his enthusiasm for what he's teaching. He's willing to have little study groups prior to tests, which really help. Doesn't use the book too much, and even says that he may say stuff that goes against the book, but it's the best one he can find. Class attendance isn't mandatory, but I would be there if I could most of the time.
Good teacher, hard class. Studied A LOT got a B... Changes I would make to get an A,, Print the outlines ahead of time and take online quizes also maybe study group.. Interesting class there for id suggest it for that reason
He's a very nice guy but I didn't like the class. He doesn't read straight from the slides!!The online tests are recommended but they don't always help because he don't test you on that! If your good with lecture and taking notes fell free to take it But if your not, don't do it to yourself!! He's very confusing!
If you actually attend class and listen to him, the class is easy. He's clearly says on the first day of class to print out the slides since they are already provided. He is opened and willing to answer any questions even if they dont pertain to the course. He is easy to talk to and very approachable! I loved the course!!
Good professor but tests can be hard. I found it helpful to look off of the outline's on the textbook's website because the test seem to come directly from that. good class overall
The guy is great!!! Takes things that are difficult and makes them easy, makes boring things exciting. Love his energy. Highly recommend unless you are looking for an easy A.
Really interesting, he has great anecdotes and a good sense of humor. Don't have to read but it makes class a breeze.
I had him for Eco&Ev and it was great, I took him for CGM and it was so hard. He moved so quickly and acted like we all had taken bio for years. He's a big fan of randomly putting people on the spot with questions so pay attention.
I cried myself to sleep. Thanks dude.
Easily the Worst Professor I've ever had a Bloomsburg. DO NOT TAKE. Gives an Exam week before final. Treats course like its a 400 level major course not like a 100 level gen. ed.
Dr. Davis should not be a professor. I had him for an intro course and it was so difficult. He crams TONS of information into one test and makes the questions almost impossible to understand. He is a smart guy but has no idea how to communicate with students effectively. He is funny but will put you on the spot to make you look stupid. Avoid him.
LOL just drop it. Intro class? feels like a 400 class for a Bio major. Too much information on each test. took this class spring 2012 and still in the fetal position shaking because of how horrible it was.
I loved his class, however if you do not have an interest in cell, genes, or molecules you WILL have a hard time in this class... i however went in scared and ended up loving this class!!! He is very funny and will help you with anything!!!! I still tell me friends to take this class!!! LOVE IT!!! I ended up getting an A- in his class!!!
This is more like a 300 level class than a 100. I feel like he is so smart he just kind of expects everyone to get what he is saying right away. There is no homework and just four tests. If you aren't into Bio and Chem, don't take this class
Molecular was extremely tedious. The material wasn't very hard but there was a lot of it. Expect to use the book because some of it is very abstract and be hard to conceptualize. That being said Dr Davis is a very nice man and a fair professor. The tests are reasonable and I could have gotten an A if I didn't cram study and paid attention in class
Very difficult to tell what is necessary to write and powerpoints are not very detailed. However, if you need help he is more than willing to sit and discuss it with you. Willing to help in whatever way he can so you can succeed. Great person, just not the best lecturer.
He asks you questions and when you don't know the answer he won't tell you the answer he just moves on. His class moves way too fast and leaves you confused.
Simply the best! May have missed his true calling as a stand-up comic. Had me ROTFLMAO several times this semester-in a BIOLOGY class! Not an easy class, but Davis made it very interesting. He loves what he does, very enthusiastic. Highly recommend!!
Davis does a great job taking complex ideas and making them understandable. I'm not a science geek, but I had him for 2 classes and loved them both. Very enthusiastic. Highly recommend!
Nice guy, very smart - but NO idea how to use a computer. Posts broken YouTube links and uploads all the time and the students panic. Can't even upload the syllabus as WordPDF, he copypasted and the format got all screwed up.
I took BIO 102 Ecology & Evolution and unfortunately had to withdraw from it because my grade in the class was so bad that it significantly affected my GPA. Lectures aren't too bad, and he gives a study guide for the tests, but he throws a lot of curveballs on the test. He puts things on the test that was not covered in class nor was in the book.
Dr. Davis is a very nice person, but he can not teach biology to students that do not have a background in it. He has a hard time using vocabulary that students understand. This is an elective class that you need to spend soooo much time studying for, and even then; good luck passing.
AMAZING TEACHER. I loved him. He took evolution and made it interesting, and i don't even believe in it. Listen, take notes, study and you will do fine. His tests are really easy if you just study the material. I did not open the book once so do not buy it. He is an awesome guy and very nice. Loves to help. My favorite prof at bloom so far!
Would not recommend taking him. He basically throws information at you, if you don't understand from the start you are basically screwed. YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK AT ALL, wasted over $100 on it.
Exceptional professor who makes class interesting. The tests aren't to bad as long as you study. Taking notes is a must, not everything in the slides are on the exam.
THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TOOK. He will laugh at you if you get a question wrong, OH AND DO NOT PARTICIPATE BECAUSE HE WILL CONSTANTLY CALL ON YOU AND EXPECT YOU TO KNOW THE ANSWER. Also do not bother buying the book, I spent over $100 on it and NEVER OPENED IT. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up, you will fail.
I would 100% take another of his classes. This class was a lot of information all at once, but if you listen, pay attention, and take good notes, you should be fine. His exams are different than what he emphasizes will be important in class though which was very annoying, it left you studying the wrong material.
I bought the book from the bookstore which has an access code and I have never used both. We have 3 tests that are all 20% of our grade and the final is 40% of our grade. That is all that we get graded on. He acts like he is funny, but really he makes us feel dumb and he laughs at us if we do not know an answer.
This was a great class. Class isn't mandatory, but I would recommend going. Most of the information comes from the lecture. It isn't an easy A, but it is doable.
Davis is a pretty cool person. DON'T buy the book. Honestly I skipped a lot of the classes and passed with a B which is fine by me. If you do skip just read the lecture PowerPoint and you're fine. I did well on the tests but rarely read "Bio in the news" DO READ IT! That's the difference between an A and a B. Good luck!
Nice guy with a great sense of humor! If you have an interest in biology, take him!
I can honestly say that Dr. Davis was amazing to have as a professor for ecology and evolution bio 102. He's so funny and loves when when students come to him to ask questions. The test were so easy as long as you study at least a week in advance for it. I would definitely take him again. I learned so much in that class and he curves every test too
Tough exam, the lectures are strictly definition and then exams are application. Don't understand a concept? good luck he wont explain what it means. He asks questions that no one knows the answers to. Clearly has favorites. Once he gets to know you.. be aware he will expect that you know everything. Read the text, go to class, and study a lot.
The textbook is recommended but NOT required. He is really funny and was always charismatic and energetic in his lectures even when he was in pain. Science has always been a hard subject for me that I've struggled with since high school, but Dr. Davis really helped me learn.
went into this class and he even said that it was the hardest class people have ever taken. he's a nice guy and really knows his stuff but he acts like all of us were bio majors. take really good notes and you'll be fine but he makes you work for your grade.
Dr. Davis isn't necessarily a bad guy. He's a nice enough person aside from being a little kooky. Often confusing. Goes back and forth between the chalkboard and the powerpoint so your notes easily become disorganized. Tests aren't too bad, but you need to study as they are at least 3 chapters at a time. Boring class if you're not into the subject
During my first semester at Bloomsburg, I selected Ecology and Evolution with Prof. Davis. Already probably one of my favorite professors, this man has the sense of comedy that you'd find from a dad. The passion for what he does and teaches is obvious to anyone in the class. If you have a question he'll answer it.
Do not take this course unless you know your stuff. He asks questions and assumes everyone in the class is a bio major. He doesn't even ask for volunteers, he puts names in a excel document and randomizes them. Hope your name isn't at the top or else hell call on you. Be prepared to speak and answer questions in front of 70+ people.
Prof. Davis is the funny grandpa of biology, but his class is a struggle. You really have to work for your grade. There are only three tests and the final. Just read the textbook and begin studying days before the test.
Had him for Ecology and Evolution. You take four exams including the final, If you study more than the day before the test you will do fine. The final was much easier than the previous tests and he will curve a little. He posts the slides on BOLT, but they are difficult to understand if you do not attend class.
The class I took with him was graded on 2 tests, one mid-term and the final. If you ever try to go in for help, he may or may not be there. Many times students ask to go over a quiz, he rushes through explanation, and then will care nothing of it afterwards.
