Hard tests, tests from notes only.

Nice guy. Very enthusiastic about the subject matter and makes the class interesting. Enjoyable class.
Fishman ROCKS. May be the best professor ive ever had.
Fishman is the man. Great teacher and makes the class interesting. Tests are hard but class is definately worth taking. A hilarious guy but does not try to be. No hw and class goes by quickly. He just knows how to teach. Take this class.
He is a very good teacher, i agree but he is very arrogant and cruel on students. If you are late, miss classes, don't do your hw,you are dead. His grading is very hard and nobody in my class got above 3.3 in any of the tests. No matter how hard you try, maximum grade you will get will be a3 avoid him!
very hard class. obsess with attendance. if you miss his class or even LATE. you will feel BAD because he closes the door and you have to know when you want to get into the class. HARD!
hard class!

he is such a hard prof. will fail u if u miss more that 3 classes even if u have a dr. note. he is soooooooooo hard and u dont understand when he talks and he'll either like u or hate.... DONT TAKE HIM
Extremely hard teacher. Don't take him. The class is as much work as 3 other classes. He seems to hate most of the students. Don't ever miss a class or be late.
VERY HARD CLASS!
Hard professor, def plays favorites. Grades Labs ridiculously hard. Obsesses over attendance. Tests aren't bad, but they're open-ended so he can grade them subjectively. Supposed to be the easier of two professor...he's not. May as well take aghassi, probably better.
Fishman is the man. As long as you go to class, you shouldnt have any problems. He will also help you with advising. Greatest guy ever!
The negative comments are true. He is THE hardest teacher and no matter how hard you try you will get a bad grade. If so many people say he is hard, please consider this as a warning and dont believe those jerks who say, ooh its fine don't worry! No it is not, eventhough i am honors,i am saying these
Really nice guy. He really cares about his job and tries to get people interedted in the material. He is a really good teacher. I would definalty recommend him.
He sucks... to much work for a summmer night class. Attendance policy unreasonable.. some of us work for a living.
Terrible way to spend the summer....do not take this as a lab science elective
wow these reviews are harsh. I've taken fishman's intro, and now 300 lvl class. He's the best prof i've ever had. his lectures are in the form of stories. He is tough, no lie, but you learn the material, for real. I had a 3.7 (and my gpa sucks) he also wins the best professor at bentley like every year. I definately recommend, he's a prof you want
his tests are hard and he gives a lot of work.BUT his classes are interesting, he's a funny guy, and I've never had a prof so knowledgeable or dedicated. HE's a great guy, you just have to be willing to study
Fishman is the man. He is very understanding and really cares about his students.
The most amazing teacher I've had at Bentley. He really makes you want to listen. Really cares about the students, and is there to help. Tests are a little hard, but if you study there is not prob. Not a lot of work. Take him!
Prof. Fishman is the man. Works very hard and expects his students to work hard as well. Class is interesting and fun. You will enjoy this class. The only drawback is that it is difficult and he is very strict on attendance. I have taken him twice and never wanted to miss a class.
Prof. Fishman has such passion for teaching and he really cares about his students, he is an amazing teacher. The tests for this class were not very difficult as long as you pay close attention to what he says in his lectures (which rock, btw) and study your notes. This was the first class that I didn't dread going to, he makes it interesting.
Fishman is the best teacher/professor I've ever had. His classes are the only ones I dont dread going to. His lectures are interesting, and he is VERY clear. He puts his lecture notes on the board in outline form, so copy them and you are golden. The exams are kinda tough, but everything in them are in his lecture notes. DEFINATELY take him
Professor Fishman is extremely clear in his lectures, but it's too bad that all the interesting things about the universe were crammed into the last two weeks. Very helpful and enthusiastic. Exams are a little tough. Notes are written on the board in outline format. I loved class.
He is amazing. One of the few teachers that I will remember (in a good way) for the rest of my life. He is a living definition of what a teacher is supposed to be.
Nice guy but sometimes unreasonable. Exaggerated how many times I missed class. Harsh grader.
He locks you out of his class if you are 1 minute late (there must be a timer on it or something). His exams are so difficult and you have to attend. He doesnt like smart alics so dont try and show all what you know because he will take it as a challenge. he will show you a video of his family and expect u to give him a good evaluation.
the worst class ever... he hated me from the first houre and tried his best to fail me.. he gave me the worst grade in my final exam and refused to meet me to see my paper... He will talk about his family and kids.. He loves sports when he talks about it, but if u talk about it he will get all red... worst class EVEEER.. Dont take it if you could.
Really nice guy. Kinda dorky, but very passionate about class. If you get over his enthusiasm and cheesiness then he really is a great guy. Still says hi to me whenever he sees me. Class material is very easy as well, nothing here that you shouldnt have learned before college. Algebra skills help a lot.
Even as an Honors kid, this class is terrible. The polarizing comments are a good indicator-you either like him or you don't. Material isn't hard per se, but he makes it so by requiring you to know EVERY little detail. Tests are not easy-he is EXTREMELY anal and OCDish. His enthusiasm for science would be better at a non-business school.
Prof Fishman is the most dedicated instructor at Bentley. Anyone here writing negative reviews about his attendance policy or fairness must have earned a D or less. He bends over backwards to help students learn, he is dedicated to the satisfaction of his students. His energy is amazing. He has twice won the most outstanding prof award! AWESOME
Why is it that he receives some negative ratings here, yet his student evaluations ("The SETS") are the HIGHEST of any prof in the history of Bentley? Because those who are rating him low never come to class, are immature, or disrespectful. I have never had a teacher who brought a subject more to life, who was better prepared, or more passionate
Hands down the most dedicated professor you will find at this school.Extremely passionate about the course and always willing to help out students. He is extremely well prepared for class and can answer virtually any question you have.Keeps track and memorizes his own softball statistics and loves BU Hockey. You will work in this class but its fun
One of the best Professors you will have. His class is challenging but you really gain incredible knowledge. His rules are simple. Be respectful and show up on time. If you wouldn't show up late to job why would you show up late to class. He deeply cares about students and wants you to succeed. I reccomend his class to every Bentley student.
Simply the best! One of the most intelligent men you will ever meet. Probably should be working for NASA or developing innovative technology that will change the world. The best professor the world has ever known. However, be prepared to work hard in his class and study long hours.
By far the best professor I ever had. Remember the notes, and you will ace the tests. Depending on which class you take, you might have a paper which isn't that bad. Highly recommended.
He is the BEST professor you will EVER have at Bentley. Do what you can to get into any of his classes. Never have I ever met a professor who cares about the subject more than his man.
Absolutely an UNBELIEVABLE professor. He is extremely dedicated to his class and he takes time to get to know everybody. He is exactly what every college professor should be; challenging, knowledgable, helpful, and thought inspiring. He went to MIT and ill bet he was one of the smartest students there. Take him if you can!
He took a really long time to write these good ratings about himself on this website because people clearly do not like him that much.
Truelly brilliant man. People giving him poor ratings are the ones not interested in space in the first place. The guy is brilliant, passionate about this subject, and puts in so much effort in his lectures, and it shows. Bit anal when it comes to wording on exams, but there's reason for that. Class is challenging no lie,but the class is so amazing
Hardest and most unreasonable professor I have taken. Inconsistent in his grading and expectations. Pushed us to be creative and then penalized us heavily for it in his grading. Genuinely worked hard, and will still receive a terrible grade.
this guy is a great teacher but hard and unreasonably so. Stay away if you want to a good gpa
This guy is passionate about the galaxy but he his trapped in his own fairytale world where everybody spends every waking hour learning about the universe and NASA because they enjoy it so much. He is unreasonably hard and makes it impossible to have good idea what is on upcoming test.
He is beyond unreasonable and assumes the only thing you'll ever be doing is reading about astronomy. His tests are terrible and his grading is possibly worse. Avoid him. He clearly loves astronomy but will force it on you. He is not a typical Bentley prof.
Fishman is a great teacher regardless of how hard his class is and how many people don't like him. He's passionate about everything he teaches and made it easy to come to class even three times a week. His class is a great experience and I definitely recommend taking him at least once while at Bentley. As long as you work hard you'll get a good grade
While passionate about astronomy, Fishman is an unreasonable professor. His exams require a ridiculous amount of information recall that is nearly impossible for students to know. While he trys to make the material relevant, it does not pertain to business or real life in anyway. Do not take this class.
DO NOT TAKE. I got lucky and came out with a decent grade but this guy is one of the most unreasonable teachers at Bentley. It is sad because material is actually really cool and interesting but he acts like knowing every specific component and detail about the space shuttle will make or break your career. Avoid.
His lectures are interesting and his lecture format is easy to follow because he writes condensed & concise notes on the board. There is indeed a lot of work because you're REQUIRED to read many articles and go to labs outside of class time (he tracks your blackboard usage!) Only take if you're genuinely interested in the subject!
Do not take! Very hard course!
Great teacher, loves astronomy and if you are also into astronomy you will love this class. Don't take unless you are genuinely interested in the subject as you'll have a hard time staying interested in it and doing the extra work on blackboard and out of class. Very helpful guy and a great class if you put the work in to be successful.
Do NOT take this course!! Seriously. It is the most amount of work I have ever had at Bentley, and it's an elective. Very unreasonable. The material itself is very interesting, but the way the class is taught makes everything obnoxiously tedious.
Fish is an amazing source of information. Greatest guy, his first lecture gave me chills. He's super dedicated to your learning and his classes are the funnest and most interesting. Great labs, demos, lectures.. He can come off as rude but that is only if you give no effort, considering he invests a lot of time into you and your success. Must take!
Obsessed with astronomy. Its not an easy class but learn a lot
Fishman is infatuated with Astronomy, but frankly so am I so I loved the course and his sometimes odd style of teaching. I enjoyed it and did well but if you aren't into astronomy I have a feeling you'll be put off by the class
Probably the best teacher I have ever had. He loves his job and you can tell he is excited to share his knowledge with you! on the downside there is a lot of work involved with the course. It is all very interesting stuff though, so if you have time take this course its worth it to have a teacher like him!
He is a nice guy and extremely passionate about the subject. He rants about his daughters and hockey and cracks jokes that are not that funny. He is a really hard grader and is very picky on tests. Even if you know the material it is hard to get an A on his tests. Final is not cumulative and its not bad for a 3.7 or a 3.3
Fishman is the man! TAKE HIM! His lessons are very engaging, and interactive. (No memorization of stats or stars required.) He is very helpful if you don't understand something, never condescending. He is a tough grader, but he does make his expectations crystal clear. Follow them, and you will be fine. One of my favorite teachers and classes!!
He has clearly manufactured some of these comments. Lowest grade I have ever received at Bentley. Be smart, choose geology or take NASC a different semester if you have no other option.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD... he is tough not going to lie but it is worth it to put in the work to have such an amazing professor. I liked him so much i took two classes w/ him. Anyone who thinks hes a bad teacher clearly didn't put in the necessary effort. Pay attention in class and take good notes and READ the articles!
Fish is the man! Yes his class has a large amount of work, but he puts a lot of time to make his lecture awesome, fun and interactive. Take good notes, review often, and DO THE BLACKBOARD ARTICLES and you will do great. Does not make you memorize useless facts! if you need to memorize something you will know. He is very helpful in class and out.
Probably the best professor I have had at Bentley. There is a lot of work in and out of class but its not so bad. His lectures are amazing and he really makes you interested in the material. Participation in class is a must. Would definitely take him again!
This is the best class I have taken at Bentley. He's such a nice guy and makes it so fun! Every class was interesting- you have to show up and do the work, but if you do, he looks for ways to give you a good grade.
By far the best professor I've had at Bentley. There is a bit of work, but he makes it interesting and fun. Funny guy overall and is able to inspire his class. His favorite quote is "I don't teach business students, I teach students." His lectures may be long, but there are super interesting
Dont even think about taking his class. He makes the hardest tests to teach you something that wont make a difference in your pay check. Worst waste of time Ive had in my life. The tests are extremely hard, not worth anybodys time, only if you want to be an astronaut.
One of the few professors I've ever had who genuinely cares and respects his students. Treats everyone as though their time is as valuable as his, and therefore gives students a good amount of time to do homeworkprojects. The big project is the build a planet project, lot of mathscience work, but a lot of fun and super interesting.
Worst professor in Bentley, unclear, Exams are very tough and alot of reading in blackboard. If you come in late 5 mins he keeps picking on you. Talks alot about his education in MIT. He is good in Astronomy but very bad in teaching and does't care about students at all. I do not recommend taking his class at all just avoid, try taking Geology.
Fishman is honestly the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and what they take out of his classes. The lectures are always interesting (amazing presentations). The tests are all written but aren't bad at all if you put effort into the class. I have taken him for two courses and wish I could take more with him.
Class is interesting, he is not. if you dont pat his ego you wont get a good grade however well you do in the exams or in class. if you seem even a little disinterested, he will take it as a insult. should have gotten at least 3.0 3.3 but gave me a 2.0 for no reason. Skip class, you will not pass.
He's awesome and the class is super interesting. However, he gives tons of work and REALLY encourages blackboard usage. Tests are all short answers but he gives you a review on what exactly is coming. If you follow instructions and do what he says, you'll definitely do well in his class. He's great and will help you if you approach him.
Absolute joke of a class. He gives a decent amount of work but it's literally middle school level difficulty. Fishman is extremely egotistical too. literally grades you on whether or not you open his weekend emails before a certain time on Sunday. A hugely disproportionate amount of your test grade is determinant on whether or not you read his BB
Professor Fishman gives a lot of work, however he does truly care about his students. If you show care for his class, he will show care towards your well-being (whether it's letting you miss a double-lecture out of illness or checking up with you in class)! There is always work in this class, but you do learn a lot from his lectures!
Fish is a very good professor and unlike what people have said on here he truly cares about his students. He talks a lot about his education or his mens softball league but he's a really good teacher. Tons of work and blackboard is fairly necessary and you get penalized for using your phone or missing class unexcused, but it is very interesting
He is a great Professor. He wants you to learn, and values that above all else. Yes , you have to put work into his class, but you learn so much. Not only that, but he has a great personality and the lectures are amazing. Do yourself a favor and expand your learning by taking him. It may be a lot of work at times, but it is worth it.
Fishman is the man. He made this class super interesting, but it definitely won't be an easy 4.0 if you're not kind of science minded. If you took chem and physics in high school, you'll be fine and this class will be a blast. Otherwise, it might be more difficult than worth it. But Fishman teaches every class like he's performing a monologue.
Never met a man so dedicated and enthusiastic to teaching a subject he very much loves. I loved his class and the material. He is that geeky, funny type of teacher - a sweetheart if that's not weird. This said, I would 100% recommend if his exams weren't so hard. Of all the topics he gives you to study he asks about 50% of it in critical detail :(
Professor Fishman is a nice guy. He nice and he cares about his students. This class though is not worth the extra effort. He cares a lot about what he is teaching and you to do a lot of readings and studying to pass this class. If you are looking for something easy PICK A DIFFERENT CLASS. You will regret taking this class
Do not take his NASA course, just piles of Middle School level information you have to memorize, hours spent keeping track of a "Blackboard usage log", and way too much time spent reading essay length "weekend announcements" full of the professor's redundant, overly emotional rantings. This course is probably not worth your time.
This class is a trap. I am in his NASA elective and it is not worth taking. As someone else pointed out, there is an insane amount of work assigned for a Bentley elective, he acts unreasonable and emotional, and shows a lack of empathy for his students. He gave us a huge group paper just before his crazy long final. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Heavy course load of very broad astronomy information. The professor holds students personally accountable for his own emotional issues. If you do not want to spend a semester boosting his fragile ego, or worrying about missing a "blackboard reading log submission", or taking three hour exams, then please take a different course!
I love space and expected to really enjoy taking a class in college dedicated to NASA. Prof Fishman is a good man, but he simply assigns an insane amount of work, expects students to emulate every word he says, and is not understanding of the fact that the world does not revolve around him/his class. This class was unfortunately a net loss.
An insane work load. Most work intensive elective ever taken at Bentley. Expects students to read hundreds of articles on top of many projects and extremely difficult tests. While attendance is mandatory, participation is not even reflected in your grade. Would recommend to avoid.
Fishman is an incredibly talented professor and a genuinely good man. His class is definitely a lot of work and he expects a lot, but he gives you absolutely everything you need to succeed on a silver platter. He loves what he does and he loves his students- all he asks is that you give him the opportunity to show you the wonders of the universe.
His lectures are passionate and absolutely fascinating. One thing I noticed right off the bat is that he gives notes SO CLEARLY. I'm a decent notetaker anyway, but his style meant reviewing was so easy when it came time to test. (Tests aren't cumulative, btw.) That said, don't come looking for an easy 4.0. He'll definitely make you work for it.
Fishman is a very passionate professor. He is extremely knowledgable about his field. However, the amount of work he expects out of his students is pretty ridiculous. An assignment due every class, and he expects his students to read *7* different articles a week from blackboard. His exams are very catered to his own thinking as well.
Professor Fishman is the MAN
Professor Fishman is the GOAT when it comes to Astronomy. He deeply loves his course material, if you put an effort forward it will be rewarded. If you have ever been curious about our universe and have to take a science, give him a chance.
This is the best class I have taken. This professor cares SO much about the material and his students. I have never a more passionate man. The material is so interesting and truly started a life long interest for me. It is a little hard, but so interesting so you won't mind as much. Please take him, he's so great.
Gives more work than any core class here. Will bring your GPA down unless you read for 6 hours a week, on top of doing his homework, along with the special individuals projects per week. On top of all that he tracks your blackboard usage per week and grades you on it , plus presentations and a huge paper.
Honestly, the class itself is interesting but the teacher just shoves so much work down your throat it's ridiculous. This is not a core class and anything from an easy pass
His test questions have rules.... That's all i want to say
Fishman's an amazing teacher and a genuinely good person. You'll never have a more enthusiastic professor, and if you ask him, he'll happily support you even outside of class. Don't take this class if you're not willing to work. It's not some throwaway elective or a 'rocks for jocks' class, you need to actually try in order to get a good grade.
I won't say anything bad about him. I truly respect his passion for astronomy. This class requires countless works and efforts. You can use those times to achieve more in your major courses.
he tracks down everything you do and everything is structured to his liking . He monitors your blackboard usage for EVERYTHING, gives lots of work and exams are super hard because you must write what he wants to hear. he really loves astronomy but i could've spent this time worrying about major classes. *textbook used is just a worksheet book*
Super humorous guy and you can really tell he loves what he's teaching. He assigns a ton of work though and grades super strictly for it being a gen ed science course at a business school. Go to his office hours for help. Exams are super hard and is basically all fill in the blank or short answer. Was definitely not an easy A.
It is nice to have a professor who is so passionate about teachings. It is clear that he breathes astronomy. However, his teaching style can be quite tedious to work with. It is as if he is teaching a 5th grade class. If he tells everyone to put their pencils down and yours is not down, he will stare at you. And he has a reading log. A reading log.
Fishman absolutely lives for astronomy, teaching, and his students. He's very approachable and willing to help if you reach out & he asks for his students' input on adjusting the course throughout the semester. He's been a great mentor and has helped give me a sense of belonging as a non-business student at a business focused university. A real gem
he is super nice and enthusiastic about the course. but there is a lot of work for the course. he makes us do reading logs, but he tracks the usage so you have to do it. this class is not easy unless you love science and astronomy.
What a gem. Love him. Take him if you want a professor who's excited to teach and genuinely happy to talk to you outside of class. There's reasonable amount of work, some people whine about it, but tbh they're wrong. He's a brilliant dude who'll have your back.
Professor Fishman is officially goated!! Such a nice guy who cares a lot about his students and course material.
Professor Fishman lives and breathes astronomy. He really cares about his students and tries to make the class entertaining. The only downside is the amount of work that is required for a level 100 gen ed and the tests are pretty tough. Be prepared for a lot of out of class work, including a weekly reading log. Overall, great guy, lot of work
Professor Fishman is an amazing Professor. Overall, he is a very good guy and he is very knowledgeable about Astronomy. As a person, he is one of the best Professors I've had. As to the material in his class, it is one of the hardest classes I've taken. This class is very difficult, and you will need to put a lot of time into studying and working.
This guy is polite and very passionate about his subject, but 1. The homework, while not challenging, is time consuming and tedious. 2. The tests are graded with high scrutiny. He essentially wants you to recite his words in class verbatim or risk losing many points. He takes this class way too seriously for an elective. This is a business school.
Overall, Fishman means well. However, for an elective at a business-oriented university, he taught the class way too harshly. Homeworks are extremely time-consuming, but not terribly difficult. Tests are borderline impossible, where you have to recite his words almost verbatim from lectures in short answer form, no multiple choice! Stay away!!!
I have to say this class is the most time-consuming and difficult I've taken at Bentley, especially for a gen-ed. While he lectures well and is a nice person, Fishman's Tests are graded on his own principles, rather than the topics taught in lectures, so points are taken off quite easily. Homeworks are also beyond tedious for an elective course.
Great guy. Love his class, but he expects to much
Professor Fishman is an amazing person and professor, however, he is an extremely tough grader, and he gives a ton of assignments. You should take him only if you like to get answers marked wrong because you did not use the same words as he did, study hours for extremely hard exams, and like reading a lot. However, he is very passionate and nice.
Hes a great guy and loves his job but expects wayyy to much especially from a science class at a business school. ou are probably gonna do a lab and a group work every week and you have reading logs which are just annoying to write down. Gives a good curve for tests though which is great since he is way too wordy and specific with the qs
Passionate about what he teaches, but way too strict of a grader. This is a business school and he expects way too much from his students for an elective science course. Nearly impossible to get an A or A-
Respect his passion, but his class is a LOT if you are not prepared for it. If you try your best you just might be able to get a 3.7, just saying. Extremely long and "complicated" calculation assignments, extremely difficult tests that are based on solely his own grading standard. Overall not worth it for an elective class at this business school.
You can tell he really cares about his students. His exams are extremely difficult but the rest of the class is extremely easy (but tedious). You defintiely have to keep track of assignments because although they are easy and don't take long to finish, there is a lot of them. Lectures are amazing and he care a lot about his students
This was probably the most difficult class I have taken at this school so far. The professor is a cool guy but is very passionate about what he teaches but that's about it. He will bombard you with articles to read, and heavy homework assignments, and will literally track how much time you spend on blackboard to come up with a homework grade.CRAZY
I'm conflicted. On one hand it was 1 of the most interesting classes I've taken. Unfortunately, the work & studying is exceedingly time consuming, homework is graded strictly, tests are hard. If I didn't have to worry about GPA/keeping my scholarship, I'd take his classes. But it's way too much work& then not even do well. Other classes suffer also
Amazing professor who really cares about the class. The class does have a heavy homework load but nothing too hard. 3 exams but the worst one is worth less and he gives small curves and points back for doing better on the second exam. Need to pay attention in class and study but if you take the class seriously you can easily achieve a 3.7/4.0.
Professor Fishman is one of the best professors I've had at Bentley. He is extremely passionate about the class and the topics covered and is always available when questions arise. The class is lecture heavy but doesn't have very many assignments. I would highly recommend this course especially if you are interested in space.
One of my favorite classes! There are 3 exams and many smaller assignments throughout the semester. It is tedious work but nothing is too hard. If you pay attention in class and review before exams you can easily get at least a 3.7. Professor Fishman is very passionate about the subject which keeps the class interesting. Highly recommend!
If ur bad at science and just want to get through ur science requirement with at least a B, he's your guy. Class is mostly lectures. MANY small assignments throughout the semester which are graded fairly easily. Tests are hard but the topics that are on it are gone over very carefully in class. DOES NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK EVER so be careful
Do not under any circumstances take this professor. 5+ assignments every week. Expects a classroom full of business students to be as passionate about astronomy as he is. Will go on about how he empathizes with college students burning out. If there was a single class that burnt me out it was this one. Take literally any other science class.
Don't do it. On the surface he's the nicest guy every. But he's snarky, condescending, and passive-aggressive. Too much work. 3 exams. 7+ readings due each week. His class has been a nightmare since day 1. Unless you LOVE astronomy and school work, there's no reason to take this class ESPECIALLY if you are a senior. I wish I could give him a 0/5.
Don't understand everyone who says this class is a lot of work.. easily the lowest work load of any class I'm taking this semester. On top of that, Prof Fishman delivers very well prepared and interesting lectures mixed in with unique group work and interactive lessons. The only bad thing is that he is a very strict grader.
If you're interested in astronomy and willing to put some work in I highly recommend taking Fishman. With that being said if you're looking for an easy A this is absolutely not the class for you. Nothing in this class (assignments/labs/exams/group projects) is easy
Worst professor you can take in Bentley. His entire purpose is making you spend as much time as possible on this course. A very interesting class ruined by a self-centered professor with zero consideration for his students. He acts very friendly but in reality he couldn't care less about you or how you do in class. Endless HWs. Not worth it!!
The worst professor I have ever had, he picks favorites, and if you are not one of them then you will never get above a 60 on assignments.
Avoid this lab: heavy weekly homework, no reminders for due dates, lengthy Saturday announcements, mandatory attendance even when sick, no bathroom breaks, and no use of electronics. Avoid!
This teacher definitely has an ego but he comes off as the nicest guy the first few weeks, but he just falls off. Take this guy as your FDS if you want to suffer through hour+ lectures.
Mixed feelings. On the one hand, it is exceptionally clear that he loves to teach and is deeply passionate about the subject - which is very admirable. However, I find that expecting students to have that same level of passion is a problem, and I noticed that he seems to take it personally if you don't. Also, he flips out if you use the bathroom.
I took NAS135 because this was one of the most "tolerable" ones. HUGE MISTAKE. I ended up dropping the class after he called me out for asking to use the restroom during a test. He is very passionate about Astronomy and teaching it but snaps back at his students when he realizes that we take this course for the credit and not for the love of stars.
Good guy. Very nice and engaging. Most similar setup to a high school science class, which I liked. Enjoyed the class. Interesting. Good amount of homework, but not difficult. Tests are challenging. Study.
This guy speaks professional yapanese. Buddy's a chatter box, won't stop yapping for exactly 80 minutes. All the assignments are hard af and takes more than 6 hours to finish. Took this as a context and perspective and thought it was an easy class. He also hates when you use the restroom and won't stop talking abt softball. Avoid this baldy!!!!!!!!
The amount of work is ridiculous in class, as well as out of class. Tests are hard unless you study for hours. The grading is extremely harsh and goes past material to things like formatting even though he's too lazy to create half of the assignments himself. Doesn't understand Bentley is a business school and most students are uninterested.
He's probably the smartest and most educated professor ive had at bentley and his lectures are super interesting and engeaging-probably the best lectuerer Ive ever had. He does give a ton of homework and readings that will take a few hours a week to do. Test are pretty hard. Also a pretty harsh grader and wants questions answered in a specific way
Astronomy is so much easier than I was expecting. There's no textbook you have to read, all the material he covers is from lectures. There really isn't a lot of HW either. If you pay attention and take notes during his lectures the exams will be easy. He will call you out if you show up late to class though.
Everyday I hope there's a solar eclipse so he can cancel class
The amount of time that I put in this course didn't reflect on my course grade. I spent about 7 hours minimum a week studying, reading DEMANDED extra articles, and doing homework. He has favorite students, and if you not one of them, kiss your grade goodbye. Save yourself and take other scientific C&T, or take him if you LOVE astronomy.
Professor Fishman was fantastic, his favorite thing --- soup, but he prefers lacava soup over his wife's, so he gets a 1.
All I gotta say is just look at other people's comments and save yourself troubles
Professor Fishman is very intelligent and passionate but passive aggressive. EXTREMELY tough grader. He is helpful if you take the initiative to learn but is very forceful in making students learn Astronomy. Bentley is a business school and students don't want to spend their time studying the universe. You've been warned.
He is a strict grader. Never gotten a 100 in any of my assignments.
I contemplated taking Fishman's course, but he persuaded me. I was looking forward to learning about the stars and universe, but this depleted me as I struggled with all the homework. He claims that it will all settle down, however this is a lie. A fast grader is perfect but he's too fast. He's a great guy, loves teaching, sometimes too much.Beware
Professor Fishman is incredibly knowledgeable, and this is evident when you sit through his captivating lectures. That being said, this class has an extreme workload, and it is NOT an easy A. So, if you want to learn more about astronomy and are willing to put the work in, NAS135 will be a great experience for you. If not, DON'T take this class.
Read the other reviews. He is very knowledgeable and cares a lot about students, but asks too much of a science elective at a business school. Asks you to read at least 5 articles a week plus labs and homework. Has way too high standards for people who don't share his love of space. Look elsewhere if you don't want to put in all the work and effort
Don't take this class if you want you want to keep a good GPA for your scholarship. Professor is fake and lies to you about how he believes you're doing in the class in order to make you stay. Take this class if you love astronomy with all your heart like he does, besides that, RUN. Being able to control your grade/GPA at Bentley feeds his ego :)
Professor is passionate but can be demanding. Lectures are engaging, but expect a heavy workload with lengthy homework and strict attendance policies. unstuck ai proved helpful for study prep alongside the free textbook. Worth the effort if you're interested in the subject.
He's a great guy! Really cares about his students, but he is definitely a tough grader. You need to put in some work if you take him. He will meet you in the middle though if you are going to office hrs and etc.
Please do not take this professor. All the other comments about him passive aggresive are true, and he's over-enthusiastic to teach science. Do not recommend.
George Fishman's class is interesting, and he clearly knows his subject well. However, the tests make up half your grade, and he's an extremely tough grader. On top of that, the workload is overwhelming, with constant assignments piling up. While you might learn a lot, I wouldn't recommend his class unless you're ready for intense stress.
I wish there was an option to rate this professor a 0 out of 5. The grading system for NAS334 is ridiculous. Most of the grade for this class are 2 exams that make up 70% of the grade and also he makes you study like 8 presentations and everything you learned outside of the class. Yeah don't take this class unless if you want ruin your GPA.
This is my last semester at Bentley and this is the first review that I have given. Professor Fishman is a nice and caring person, but he treats everyone in class as if we were still in elementary school. Every lesson can be much shorter and his life stories just take up time. Policy is no electronics and perfect attendance, 2% reduction if absent.
It's like he purposefully wants you to do bad in this class. He preaches all day that teaching and educating is his calling, but he is barely helpful and is the toughest grader on the planet. 10+ articles per week and memorize facts for the exams - which are insanely difficult even if you study for hours. Hates you if you use the bathroom.
NASA loves its acronyms! Professor Fishman is obviously passionate about astronomy, but it can get a bit overwhelming between the readings, projects, and work. I just wanted to learn about cool future space rock colonies.
Professor Fishman does not understand the type of student in his course. He believes that he is giving a reasonable amount of work, "Well under 2 hours per hour in class", but gives more work than most other classes combined. Treats students as if they did not pass elementary school, and cares a lot about attendance and other little things. Avoid.
This professor is very passionate about astronomy, but the course is tough for a business elective. Expect to spend 6+ hours a week outside class. Statistically, it ended with a B-/C+, but it dropped to a C- for using my phone and not following class guidelines. It's not an easy class—take it seriously or don't take it at all.
Professor Fishman treats his class as if it is the most important thing in the world and as if everyone else is taking the class because they want too(they're not). There are countless group projects and he will go on and on and on during the lectures. There is no technology use in the class at all, and he will call you out for phone use.
Professor tries to boost his ratemyprofessor with 5s. Read all the other comments and STAY AWAY!
Professor Fishman clearly has a great passion for what he teaches, (all things NASA) but he assigns far too much work. Hours of outside class work (movies with summaries, reading logs, etc.) weekly. The worst part is the extremely strict 0 phone/device (yes-even computers) policy. If you miss one class your grade WILL be hurt
I regret taking his class so much. He is quite literally the worst and also spits when he talks. Hostile, and super unapproachable. Wouldn't wish this class on my worst enemy!
Guy is literal pond scum. There is nothing you can do to get above a B. I have put more effort into this class than all my others combined. He makes up grading criteria as he goes.
If you are interested in the course material, Fishman will be your favorite professor. If you don't care about it, he will be your least favorite. I've taken him twice now and both of his classes have been some of my favorites at Bentley. His lectures are extremely interesting/engaging and he shows a clear passion for teaching
He was fine in the beginning of the semester; pretty tolerable. INSANE amounts of work/readings outside of class; took up hours of my time. He told me that I can email him whenever I please, and that he would not feel disrupted. However, when I emailed him during finals week, he told me, "I am trying to focus on grading for other classes". AVOID!!!
he's definitely very passionate about what he teaches, and he's not a boring or rude guy. the one thing is just that he's a very tough grader and absolutely refuses to give full credit on any assignments. George is an energetic and interesting person, and i feel he's easy to talk to, but just for the type of grader he is i would not take him again
Oh boy, NAS333. He says the homework takes 1 hour... (its 4 hours of calculus and physics). Exam grades? HARSH. Yea, get ready to LOG your reading which he verifies. Only positive is that assignments are 50% of your grade which is great if you really try on the homework. Lectures are interesting, homeworks are unrelated. NO PHONES. NO LAPTOPS.
