Must study for exams!
Maybe caz we are in the big room but he don't do prob. on board but just "says" it. it's really hard to understand. and exam is Hard and he don't really curve
Dr. Gamble was hard to follow and got off the subject very easily. Also his handwriting on the board is TERRIBLE!
Gamble is a great professor. He will do all he can to help you if you need it. Make a little effort and meet with him outside of class and you will do just fine. Advanced Accounting is a very difficult class so be prepared for it, but don't blame the prof
Dr. Gamble is a great professor and is funny to some extent. This is a very difficult class so plan on dedicating a lot of time to it and my advice don't take in a minimester and keep up with the reading otherwise its going to be a rough.
He cares about his students, is passionate about his subject matter, forces his students to think, but you learn more in this class about accounting than any other. Expect to spend a little more time than normal due to heavy reading assignments and many presentations.
You absolutely need to read the text before class. He will put you on the spot
Hes a good teacher that asks alot from his students. He heavily stressed the foundations of accounting which is essential to do well. His handwriting is just horrid, you would think he would try harder to right better on the board after so many complaints. His tests were different from other teachers Ive had, he incorporates MC and free response
Interesting class. You will learn alot but definitly need to put all your effort into it. he's a fair person but the class is extremely difficult.
i find that his class really isn't that hard but he does not do a good job at explaining the material at all. he's always late and unorganized. you will have a much easier time reading the book and learning the material on your own which goes to show you the effectiveness of his teaching techniques. nice guy but horrible teacher.
worst professor ever. He was totally unfair during the finl. He said that it would be cumulative with 50 - 40% old material. Only the new stuff was on the test. He also added in an assignment that was worth 5% of our grade!! UNFAIR!!
Take Sam's class
Worst teacher I've ever had. Extremely hard class. Didn't even want to meet with me in person. He'll kill your GPA and your desire to be an accountant.
Worst teacher. the material is not hard at all if you just read the book, however, when you show up to the class he completely confuses you. the problems that are posted online or done in class have lots of typos. very unorganized. the exam is not multiple choice and has less then 10 questions. although seems like a nice person outside the class
The material is not difficult. Dr. Gamble is straight and to the point. He treats you like a professional and not a student. Its a grad level class so of course your going to have to put some effort into it. Stop all the moaning babies. Better you learn now then later how difficult it can get. Talk to Gamble after hours, he is easy to talk to
Great teacher, if you are a slacker and do not wish to be challenged do not take his class. If you are passionate about becoming an accountant take his class.
horrible professor. It is so hard to follow his lectures as they are unorganized. He does not seem to have the passion to teach, as evident by his handwriting which will get you even more lost in class. He is intimidating and is never serious considering he gives ridiculously difficult exams. I don't know why he is still teaching!
Calls ppl out for being late when he was 2 weeks late to summer sem. Talks in ecxess about his personal opinions. Horrible handwriting. Makes an intro accounting class painful. It's only been one day...FML
he is always late to class but makes fun of people if they come in late or leave early. He needs to start a research course if he wants to throw the so called "Real World" thing in people's faces! You cannot expect to use an accounting principles/foundations course as a door to the real world. How are we supposed to learn if he is not clear?
Stroke his ego for a better grade, you won't see your test results unless you visit his office, and even when you schedule an appt., he's not always there. If I had to guess, I'd say he pre-determines your grade based on how he perceives you in class. Subjective grading.. never saw one test i took. B+.. first non-A in accounting/finance ever.
Have to say he is probably the worst professor I've had EVER! Lectures about how people our age aren't responsible at least 30 mins each class. Handwriting is completely not legible. Doesn't curve exams. Doesn't provide extra credit, gives no guidance at all as to what is going to be on exam. Please save time and your GPA and take someone else!
Terrible at lecturing, never seems to have an actual lesson prepared. Goes on long rants about his ridiculous personal opinions. No curves on his exams and doesn't offer extra credit. Probably the worst professor I've had at UH.
Nice guy but totally unhelpful for this class. He preaches alot including reading the textbook---yet he doesn't provide a full range of solutions to textbook exercises (in fact, hardly any at all). Exam questions are standardized (I think) and most of them will come at you sideways---which he offers absolutely no help in preparing for. Avoid him.
This guy had to be the worst professor i've had so far and please do not think he will work problems in class.
Terrible class and terrible professsor. It is well known that Advanced Accounting is a hard class and that Gamble is a hard professor. You do not have a choice right now, must take Advanced Accounting to graduate Masters in Accounting and he's the only professor right now. He pushed our final up giving us one week notice of the date of the final.
Homework is useless for exams. Wants you to learn it his way, but he can't teach; so everybody is lost. Late for every single class, and then keeps you late. Unmotivated, bitter, and finds pleasure in doling out bad grades. He refuses to go by the book. He's unorganized and makes mistakes often. Needs to retire unfortunately.
Avoid taking him if you can. He continually talks about students lack of effort/responsibility, he's always late, he does NOT curve, grading seems very subjective, goes off on 20 minute tangents, he's very out of touch with reality. You're GPA will drop significantly if you take him. Out of touch with reality!
Avoid him if you can. He's always late to class. He doesnt provide solutions to all of the book problems. He doesnt like to use the book. He has his own way of teaching. He goes over problems in class very fast and doesnt explain them. His files on blackboard are not organized at all. The exams are really hard, some people take 4-5 hrs to finish
Horrible teacher. Still have nightmares about his class. He does not help answer questions when you go to his office, makes you feel stupid, and is extremely subjective in his grading (yet no curves). Rants on about "the real world" and how he prepares students yet completely confuses students during his teaching.
Save yourself the anguish. Unless you devote 100% of the time to self teaching or tutoring this class is a waste of time and your money. The biggest thing to know is that this class has nothing to do with Intermediate 2. 50% of students drop, and the other 50% wish they had.
Pretty much the worst professor you'll ever have. He spends a lot of class time telling you how worthless you are and how you won't amount to anything. Also talks about how you'll fail in the real world because you're not doing well in his class. Completely unclear, can't read what he writes on the board, doesn't help or really teach you anything.
I am studying for the CPA exam and my Becker review guide is teaching me more about Advanced Accounting than this idiot ever did. He's only at UH because he has a tenure. Someone should print out this page and stick it under his unorganized and filthy office. Most horrible accounting professor I've ever had at UH.
horrible!his goal is not explaining on the material but confusing you at most and never gives a reasonable answer. Why this school allows he teaches the most important class. I am studying CPA using becker and you can understand all the material which confused you in his class.the material are not hard at all when you listen to the becker instructor
Truly the worst professor that I have had. Bad explanations and it is unfortunate that so many of the accounting classes at UH are only offered by him. Also check your tests! In one of the courses with him our entire class went to check grades because so many were ridiculously low. In my case the math was off by 10 points! Thats ridiculous.
This professor is fair in his grading and truly wants his students to succeed. I did not do well in this course and prefer not to post my letter grade. However, I have met with him after exams including the final, learned from my errors, and have learned more from this course than many others. I felt consistently challenged throughout the summer.
Very tough class. Gamble is a good teacher but can go off on rants a lot. BUT the class is survivable. If you want to do well I suggest you get a good group of peopleto study with, work problems using the methods he teaches in class, and study every day. He teaches different from the book. Gamble will give you help if you go to office hours.
He teaches a different method than the textbook in class so pay attention, record lectures, take notes. Practice the book probs using his method and then check your answers with him. Study way before the test, you cannot cram if you want a good grade. Live at his office hours and the TA's tutoring hours. I got a B+ through blood sweat and tears.
Very tough class, but it is not impossible. This is not like the other accounting classes, YOU NEED TO STUDY 1-2 HOURS A DAY. Few helpful tips. 1) Read the chapter before the lecture 2)Try to practice the suggested problems before coming to class 3)Make sure you do all exercises and problems before test
You must devote your entire life to this class for the duration of the semester. it is grueling and extraordinarily difficult. Both Dr. Gamble and the tutor are willing to help during office hours. This class beautifully parallels the cold reality of the world we live in, where the strongest minds succeed and the rest do not. Which one are you?
Apparently not everyone that has a PhD is capable of teaching and he is one of them. Expect to teach yourself for the whole course and no life if you take him on summer.
Although he is a nice professor, lectures and tests are typically conceptual. If you cannot grasp the concept the best you may get is a C-. He also likes to pull information on tests from other accounting tests so study previous accounting courses.
Terrible professor, it's a shame UH continues to reward him. He's bad at explaining concepts and won't answer questions outside of office hours. Try to hold out until he retires you'll get nothing out of the class...
This class gave me my first gray hair. Not coincidence or me aging gracefully but because this class is a nightmare. On the bright side, I will never forget how to consolidate financial statements.
Worst prof ever. He never respect any of his students; always cancel classes, hard test without teaching; cancel scheduled review session without telling anyone (all the students were waiting in front of his office while he was having a phone call with his friend; laughing like those students standing there was not what he should worry about)
This professor is an embarrassment to Bauer. He is bad quality and cannot teach. You have to teach yourself everything and it's never enough. He goes out of his way to trip you up and make his tests extra hard. And even if you have the right answer, if he feels you didn't understand enough he won't give you full points. Worst prof ever.
Professor Gamble is a very tough teacher. He seems to be stuck in the past and is using a 2009 book for all his notes, tests and homework assignments while issuing a $200 book for us to read, which covers thing differently than in class. This is hard as he doesnt explain anything in class and chooses to spend the class insulting students work ethic
The professor uses very different approach to solving problems as those described in the book so don't even try to read it or you will get confused. He doesn't want to test your knowledge, instead he tries his best to trick you during tests and then spends couple hours laughing at mistakes students made. Avoid him if you can.
The 2nd time taking his class, and not voluntarily. He's the only prof teaching, so no option. Very knowledgeable, but umps all over the place while teaching and doesn't cover much material at all. Repeats the same thing every day and expect students to follow him. Talks fast, write horribly, can't teach. Avoid him at all cost!!!
Dr Gamble spends a large proportion of class time mocking your intelligence. He explains concepts terribly and uses different methods to the textbook. He will deliberately try to trick you in exams. Exams are 6 hours long, and he's a really tough grader. I'm an A-grade student, yet through sweat and blood I received a C+.
Though he is a nice guy, he is very unorganized and takes too long explaining things. He gets side-tracked a lot and gives life lessons, and usually comes to class about 20-30 minutes late. When he does get to explaining the material, he is not very clear and tends to be all over the place. He does not have office hours, so you're on your own.
By far the worst professor at Bauer! Make sure you only take this class with easier classes because you will have to dedicate ALL your time to studying for this class in order to pass. Gamble will make sure it's your worst semester at UH.
Worst professor at Bauer! He does not care about his students (consistently comes to class late with no explanation) and does not hold office hours. I dont know why UH keeps him around. Professors like him ruin the schools reputation. I would say stay away but hes the only professor teaching this class.
Gamble is a tough grader and his notes/lectures are all over the place. With that being said, students were able to pass by studying his notes religiously and by getting to know Gamble in and outside of class. While the material may seem impossible, he does care about his students and I learned a lot during the semester.
Get ready to teach yourself some accounting! This professor is to accounting what ben carson is to politics. I highly suggest taking Kilic.
Hes a great person but an awful professor when it comes to actually being able to teach. Have to put in twice the amount of effort into an already challenging class. Highly recommend watching YT videos as lectures but good luck if you have no choice but to take him. Again hes a great man but his style of teaching could be a lot better. Take Kilic
For someone who preaches about wanting students to learn/understand accounting, he sure does an awful job in assisting the learning process. Lectures are useless and youre better off going to someone elses lecture or just teaching yourself bc he wastes time during class on off topic tangents. Left this class learning nothing and disappointed.
An isnpirational person, may not be the best lecturer but at this point all courses are about self studty. Great life and motivational lessons, just do the problems in the syllabus its an Easy A
Not a bad guy. Really helpful when I reached out for hw help. His class is NOT packed because people are scared of the reviews on here. Use that to an advantage. Less people means more meaningful lectures. Don't expect it to be easy, you do have to put in here. If u listen to the majority of the reviews, you're only becoming like them. Be different
Really bad professor. Spends his time giving motivational speeches. I never attended class only to take quizzes. Learned from the textbook and youtube videos. TAKE THE OTHER PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN!!!
What people do not understand is that this is not HIGH SCHOOL. The professors job is not to teach you everything and you put in NO effort outside of class. You have to read. You have to do the practice problems. You have to come to class prepared. He doesnt teach the book. He does examples. Read, this is college, and you will be fine.
Gamble is not a bad Professor. He goes over the problems in class that are clearly written on the syllabus to complete outside of class. Do the problems and come to class prepared and it will be easy. Dont expect to sit in class and get it without doing the work ahead of time. Read the chapter before class, pay attention to his examples
Read the textbook, and do all of the practice problems. Proffesor Gamble expects you to know the material before class but he is there to answer any questions/doubts.
In all honest truth, he was the WORST accounting professor ever! He is disorganized with his "lectures and teachings", difficult to understand what is coming out of his mumbling mouth, exams are not even the same as the exercises and in-class problems, explains accounting horribly. He is a nice man, but man he can not teach! Avoid him or suffer!
WORST professor at UH. LAZY and DISORGANIZED with lectures and sharing pertinent information with students. Exams NOTHING like the suggeted study problems (my advice: DO NOT FOLLOW THIS PROFESSOR'S ADVICE). Syllabus dates/grades/blackboard info wrong COUNTLESS times. Did not announce exam or project dates correctly. Didn't want students to succeed.
Probably the worst professor I have met in my life... no feedback, exam is 3 hours long, Final is almost 4 hours. Exam is very different than the materials you learned and very difficult too. Theres no homework so the grading is heavily rely on exams. Dont take him if you want to move on to intermediate 2.
I ended up with an A. He makes you study and think. His tests are not hard, to be honest. I took him during Covid-19, so the class is online. I mostly taught myself with Connect and his posted questions because his voice is not clear and we were kicked out many times during sessions. By the way, he adjusts his teaching way to comfort "CPAs"
Didnt attend many lectures & the ones I did didnt help me. He mumbles, doesnt explain things clearly, & isnt good with technology. Read the book, take detailed notes, & do whatever practice material is posted & youll pass. Easy project. Tests are more concept based.
His lectures are minimalistic in explanation. You spend three hours essentially listening to him say nothing helpful. He gives no homework, which may sound good but you can't gauge how well you are doing on the subject without it. He's a nice guy, so he will answer questions, but more often than not your question won't be answered clearly.
Dr. Gamble is impossible to learn from. Everything in his class essentially has to be self taught. He will respond to SOME students emails and not others, and sometimes will be MIA for weeks. If there are no other teachers available wait until there are. Must read the textbook to study. No homework, all tests (3 hours each) and 1 vague project.
Just like what the others said, he mumbled a lot and his explaination wasnt great, either. Be prepare to teach yourself and watch youtube videos. He would NOT allow to replace final with the lowest one even though the three exams account for 95% of the total. I would not recommend him. Take the other professor if you want to move on to int2.
I see all of the bad ratings. I think some people didn't do the reading and work before class. I came to the first class unprepared, and I didn't do it again. He forces you to stay on top of the material. Yes, he's not the most dynamic speaker, but the material is dry as a bone. The tests are easy since you come in prepared. I learned a ton.
Be ready to learn the most important class for your accounting base on your own. The meaning of the word practice losses its value when talking about practice problems; they are not even close to what you will see in the test. Going to lectures is a waste of time since there is no structure at all and not even himself understands his handwriting.
The people who said he was a good professor and people were just NOT prepared? I beg to differ. Do not take Gamble if you're working or taking part in leadership organizations, you need to spend A LOT of time to pass. He's a passionate professor but he lacks clarity. He mumbles, copies and paste answers, and blames students for not doing enough.
Be prepared to teach yourself the material. You'll need to read the book and do all of the exercises and problems. Class honestly wasn't helpful. He is not very understanding or forgiving when it comes to grading.
If you think you'll pass by just practicing all the end of chapter problems you're gonna fail. Gamble tests heavily on the conceptual elements so, understanding the "bigger-picture" will be what makes you an A. He's a fountain of knowledge but, people are too quick to call him a "bad teacher" because they expect exams to be a certain way.
Dont waste ur money or time with this prof. I'm a straight A student struggling to make C's. Really nice guy but cannot teach at all. class is useless and hes not understanding with tests/grades. he was my only choice this semester but if i knew how bad he really was, i wouldve took it next semester with another prof. take anyone but him pls.
Only took him since he was the only Professor available. He is very horrible at giving lectures, always mumbles and doesn't prepare you for what's going to be on the exams. I would HIGHLY recommend taking another professor. Gamble only answers some emails and was MIA for a lot o the semester. Also does NOT allow final to replace lowest exam grade.
Avoid this man at all costs. The department had to curve everyone up three letter grades because his lectures made no sense. If you get stuck in his class, do yourself a favor and drop before you get a W.
Professor Gamble is a good guy, but I highly recommend you take another professor for Intermediate ACCT. If you take his class expect to teach yourself.
Like others have said, he's a well meaning professor but doesn't prepare you for the exams at all. Take a different professor if possible, or clear your schedule and be ready to dedicate 2-3x the amount of time you would to any other course.
Avoid this professor if you can. The amount of suffering I felt during this course is no joke. Be prepared to become your own teacher, as class lectures are brief and rarely cover topics in-depth. This class single-handedly made me regret my choice of major, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel in Int 2. Class is passable, but good luck...
AVOID IF POSSIBLE. Be prepared to become the professor and self-teach yourself everything. His lectures are short and rarely cover topics in-depth. Exams will be significantly more difficult than anything covered in class. Class is passable, yet made me regret my major. It's that bad. If you survive, things get better in Int II. Good luck though.
Dr. Gamble is caring, thoughtful and always willing to visit with students! He was one of my favorite professors at The University of Houston. I will always remember him for many reasons! LDA
Doesnt write the exam, and doesnt teach for the exam. Find a different professor, this one is just dreaming. Whatever positives he has, is completely drowned out by his abhorrent lectures. This class is essentially just entirely self-study. Farhat(youtube) is pretty good. There was a 15 point curve on all the exams to get the average score above 60
Only thing this professor taught me is to always trust rate my professor.
I showed my friend a recording of the lecture, he had no idea what this man was saying. The professor mumbles every other sentence, making it impossible to understand the lecture. I just spent 20 minutes (checked clock) listening to this man preach us about our bad exam 1 grades rather than teaching us. AVOID I miss prof. harris
He rushed through lectures without providing clear explanations. His tests were extremely difficult because he intentionally made the problems different from the practice ones to test conceptual understanding. This approach was frustrating, though, since he never clearly explained the concepts to begin with.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE, HALF THE CLASS IS SPENT RANTING. seriously, its 30 mins in our hour and a half class, we have not gone through ONE question, he's talking about how we will be "crushed". get me out
"As students, you're only job is to learn and do what you have to do." Yeah well your job as a professor is to teach and he doesn't do his job. You essentially have to teach yourself because he barely teaches. He's hard to follow when he actually does. Only good thing about him is he lets you know what the topics of the quizzes are going to be.
This professor really does not help you study the materials for the exams. There is virtually no curve and every student in the class has to suffer to barely getting a C.
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT take this man. His lectures are useless, and he mumbles so hard that you can't understand a word he says. He will fail you if you don't learn the material yourself outside of class. Quizzes are weekly and pretty easy if you prepared for them. This guy needs to be replaced though.
Absolutely horrible! Please avoid at all costs!!! By far the worst professor I have taken during my time at UH. No HW just quizzes once a week and exams. He doesn't write the exams so he has no idea what's being tested. Overall, do yourself a favor and avoid him.
I'm only giving this guy a 5.0 because he literally "gambles" your grade with useless exams and quizzes to the point where study material for them is nonexistent. He serves that purpose.
