javascript. wings it a lot. Somewhat difficult russian accent. knowledgable. pretty good guy.
took it last year. he quit early alot. not prepared to teach the full session. think it was his first time. think he will improve. tough accent for many. nice guy
Doesn't require much. Keeps his cool. Easy A.
Great Professor. Not easy, but if you hang in there you'll get a good grade. His accent is a bit thick, but he knows his stuff. Good class, great teacher, really nice guy and if you need help he will help you.
VERY NICE PROFESSOR.VERY HELPFUL,AND KNOWS ALL THE STUFFS THAT HE HAS TO TEACH. VERY NICE PERSON.
JavaScript. Good teacher. Explains well. I learned a lot. Heavy accent but you get use to it.
Professor Gonchar is a great teacher and aids you when you need help during and after class. If you were born in the computer age then this class is pretty much cake. Only new information I learned was terminology used for the computers hardware/software.
cool teacher, very laid back. i didnt even buy the books required and still got an A. if you are familiar with computers than this class is very easy. he has no late policy for assignments and tests are easy too.
Nice enough guy, THICK Russian(?) accent. I could not decipher what he was saying. Freindly and laid back, he doesnt like to answer questions. He says "We'll get there" and then forgets, i guess. He means well. His tests are easy, i can vouch for that. Homework from the book every class. I wont say dont take him, but do it at your own risk.
Really easy, he picks favorites, but as long as youre nice to him you'll be fine. His accent can be a little frustrating. I would take him again.
Mr. Gonchar is an excellent Professor for PL/SQL. His Russian Accent is thick, but you get used to it in a week or two. He is very helpful if you ask for it, and very knowlegeable about the subject. It's good to read ahead for the next week's class. I'd reccomend taking his class to anyone.
If you already understand how to use word excel powerpoint and access you'll be just fine but if its all new to you then you'll be better off with another teacher.
Great prof. He has what sounds like a russian accent but you can understand him and it almost makes the class less boring(all comp classes are kinda boring). All the home work was from the book but it is easy. As long as you let him know you can't make it, he's cool if you have to miss class. I reccomend him to anyone.
Great teach. I had only used word a few times and now I fully understand at least the basics in all the office programs
Kinda hard to understand..thick Russian-ish accent, but nice person. He will help you out if you ask questions, just complete all assignments. His tests were open book and open computer...so not too bad. got an A :)
He is one of the best professors. He is very helpful if you ask for it, and very knowlegeable about the subject. If you read books and do all assignments, you wil be fine and get A. I wish I can take all his classes because I learn lots of things from him. I appreciate him because he made me love database class.
This was a 16 week class condensed into 5 weeks. You had to stay up with the class and do the homeworks. All tests were multiple choice or true/false. Many students did not read the book before class or do the homework. Instructor was incredibly fair and very available to help students. Instructor should get an A+ while my fellow students get a C.
Good guy, very heavy accent (Russian I think) so he can be a little difficult to understand some times. Also he's been known to suddenly stop speaking English in the middle of a lecture. Short version: Be sure to read the book and stay on top of the assignments.
This Professor is amazing, I have taken him for most of my Database Classes, and I paid attention and got an A in every single one of his classes, he has an accent, so some people find that hard to understand, but I understand him, and he explains everything very well, you just have to pay attention. and most of his classes has the online textbook.
Great Professor, alittle hard to understand because he has a Russian accent? Just come to class everyday and do yourhomework and you will receive a good grade.
Professor Gonchar really knows the material and is willing to help the struggling student. He is a little tough to understand and it really helps to have read the chapter prior to him lecturing on it. It was a positive learning experience.
Very good teacher, highly recommend you take his class, it is fun and you will definitely learn..He is alittle hard to understand because he has a thick Russian? accent. But just come to class and do the work and you will get an A..
If you're new to Java, don't recommend him. He's helpful, but its just hard to understand him. A really nice guy, but if you get on his bad side, beware. I think I got on his good side eventually, but I saw him walkthrough others more often than me. He belittled me b/c I didn't know Java, but he saw that I was trying, so he became nicer.
ITE 115: Make sure you get the Skills for Success book, do hw, and attend class. The course will be a piece of cake.
Great teacher! Class was kind of hard but he works with you and is very helpful. He lets you know exactly what is on the test and they are OPEN BOOK! Highly recommended.
Professor Gonchar is very good at teaching SQL/PLSQL. I enjoyed his teaching manner. He has strong accent, but it is OK to understand his class.
He is a very helpful professor. If he sees you trying you will not fail the class. He is very friendly. Just do the assignments and test are fairly simple.
Class a challenge to me coming in w/ no HTML knowledge but he made it work. Very approachable and helped me and any other students without hesitation. Stayed late to help and even once stayed an hour late to help me out with a DIFFERENT class! Yes, accent is thick but I still understood just fine. Just a plain & simple good guy. Reccommended.
Nice teacher, but class had no structure and grades given at the end of the course were abritrary.
He is a really good teacher...very helpful..i would definitely take another class with him... grade is based on homework 25%, final project(building a website) 25%, midterm 25%, and final 25%...
Prof. Gonchar was a good teacher. He was sometimes a little confusing during lectures, but tried his best to go over everything until people understood. He's very flexible and will help students when needed. As long as you show up for class, do the homework, and interact a tiny bit in class, it's an easy A
Fantastic Professor! I really like his manner of teaching and readiness to help any time you need it. You will never fail if you try to do at least something.
I enjoyed his class very much and I am taking ITD-134 with him, which I am excited about. He is very knowledgeable and very studious as not all tech professors are. Definitely recommend.
HE is very nice and helpful teacher .He respect all his student before u take final or midterm he will go over .TAKE HIM.
He's very flexible and use good way to teach. As long as you show up for class you easily get an A.
This Prof. has a thick accent can't really understand. the class is super long and he talks for a while. if you don't know anything about excel, power point Microsoft, ect.. don't take him. he makes you look dumb if you don't answer his questions correctly. his class is like advance ite 115. don't recommend for beginner students.
I took two of his classes and I will take other classes with him. He was great. He is very good with listening to questions and helps very willingly. I'm very new to IT and he met me many times during his office hours to help understand and keep up with the class. He is there to help you succeed - if you try there's no way you will fail. Good luck!
Professor Gonchar is great!!! Take his class if you need to pass. He helps out one on one during the class and if you need help after, he spends the time with you. I ended up taking 4 classes in total with him while at Nova ITE 170, ITD 132, ITD 134, ITD 110.
Prof Gonachar is hands down one of the best teachers at NVCC. I have taken probably 5 classes with him and have learned so MUCH! He has very active lectures where he takes full use of the board to explain things and draw everything out. Every class is practical work, never uses powerpoints for lectures. Always ready to explain and help students.
Great Teacher, very patient and explains the process.
I had George as an instructor twice and he is very fair, helpful, and one of the best teachers at NOVA. If you do the homework and study, you will retain the knowledge from his teaching and get an A. The book was necessary for the assignments, but I borrowed it from the library.
Best professor at nova
At first you might feel a little intimidated by him, but I promise he's a friendly giant. People really exaggerate his accent, if you pay attention and do your work outside of class you should be straight, if you need help he gives you the time of day and his full attention, he's also the coolest assistant dean EVER.
Easy A take him.
Professor does a review before the exam. Pay attention to the review and you will do good in the test.
Very knowledgeable, helpful and easygoing.
This professor is amazing! I missed the first two weeks of the class, but it helped me to get back on track, and made up quizzes I missed. He's really understanding
Hey guys, I took Professor Gonchar for ITD 110 over the summer and ITE 170 this semester for fall. If you go to class and keep up with the homework assignments (following directions in book for easy completion), you'll do well. He does a very good review for the midterm and final in before the exam. And he's not a tough grader! :)
Took Prof. Das for ITN 100 last summer and ITP 100 over fall and both classes were great. Easy to follow syllabus, fair grading and solid teaching. I would recommend this professor to everyone.
I am also currently taking him for ITP 120. I don't agree with the previous comment at all. Professor Gonchar is very knowledgeable regarding Java and other programming languages. He has an accent, but it is definitely not thick, you can understand him quite easily. Also, his class is easy, but you can also learn a lot by applying yourself.
Super nice professor.
Great professor. His accent sometimes makes you harder to understand, but if you pay attention on what he did in class you will be OK. Easy grading and always smile. Love him, you will not regret.
Very easy A. You'll end up thanking yourself for taking his class.
good prof
Dont buy the book for his class because Professor Gonchar show you a way to get it for free online. Attendance is mandatory. Also as long as you listen to his lectures and take notes it should be easy for you. Also do all the assignments he gives you. His class is really easy,
He is a very good professor ! You only need to attend class and complete his assignments in order to pass without a problem. He has a strong accent, but it is not a big deal because you can still understand him.
Online homework and quizzes that can be redone multiple times, get an 100% on all of them. Exams are easy to pass, same questions from online quizzes. Even if you bomb the exams, 100% on HW and quizzes and project will guarantee you a B or C minimum. Knows what he is doing and lectures perfectly and clearly
This is the man. Theres no way someone could get under a B. he wouldn't let that happen. Take his class if you really want to learn and have an easy A. Enough said best professor at nova.
This professor teaches far better than anyone else I've taken, gives clear examples when lecturing and implements them into the classwork for easier understanding. Read the textbooks, do the homework and quizzes and you will pass
SIMPLY PUT, AN AWESOME PROFESSOR; ONE OF THE BEST AT NOVA. DO ALL YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND YOU WILL GET AN EASY A! IF YOU HAVE A HARD TIME WITH THIS CLASS, THEN YOU'RE JUST LAZY!
Professor Gonchar is a great professor, I would not say he is the best at NOVA as others have said though. The assignments are easy and straightforward and you just need to attend to pass. My major issue with him is that his lectures are quite boring and long and dumbed down. He over explains to fill the time and this gets extremely frustrating.
First off, he's a really nice and caring professor. However, as a recent poster mentioned, the man drones on without end and the lectures end up being long winded - which can be really annoying. Easy and straight-forward assignments, but if the students don't remind him the class has ended, he'll be lecturing you until 3 a.m.
A great professor. Not only was he receptive to questions but he was also soothing to listen to. I wish I could have learned more from him, but his classes were completely booked by the time I registered. You never know what you have till its gone.
Awesome professor. Show up, pay attention, and you'll pass the class easily. He takes attendance partway through. You can tell he really enjoys what he does and is very knowledgeable about it. Very few assignments. Exams were easy and he practically gives you the answers. One of the few classes I feel like I learned something.
He's very understanding and flexible. try to keep up with assignment due dates, I had to retake this course and I took his class for 8 weeks, the best decision ever.
Professor gonchar is the best when it comes to web development. He knows the topic very well. If you do your homework and show up to class you will get an easy A.
Took the 8 week class online. For the most part, easy enough class. Only two exams (mid and final). Homework every week which included using cengage ($100 subscription) to build webpages. The prof knows a lot but sometimes his classes ran long and it was hard to stay focused. The homework took me a very long time, but I always ended up with an A.
I took Professor Gonchar for ITE 170 and he has a broad knowledge on all multi-media subjects. He is also patient, caring and understanding with all the students. I wish he taught more of my required classes because I would be the first one to enroll. If you have him as a professor, you wont' fail because he won't let you.
He is really nice. He goes over everything you need to know for your homework. There is usually 1 homework assignment due each week, you use oreilly textbook for most of your homework. Attendance required, no cameras required. Tests are taken during class, no lockdown needed. Super easy class, 3 exams, one final project (which is super easy)
Great professor and I got an A in the class. Highly recommended
I loved his teaching that I took his other class. He was available all the times and very helpful professor.
Professor Gonchar, has an effective teaching style and strong connection and communications with his students. He is kind, cooperative and open minded. He treats everyone equally. I really enjoyed his class.
We used a free online book. Teacher was very helpful and communicative. This is my second class with this professor and Im going to be taking a third with him. As long as you do the work youll get an A. There are way too many resources online/in class to not get an A
Professor George Gonchar, excellent lecture very positive helpful.
Amazing, very positive professor and I got an A in the class. Highly recommended!!!
His class was fairly easy. If you are already familiar with computers and software it will be easy. If not you will still have an easy time since Professor goes over everything.
Overall, great professor. Easy A but you have to work for it
He is a very caring Professor and wants his students to succeed. Finish assignments and participate in class, it should be an easy A. He basically gives the classwork as the homework you just have to finish it up.
Professor was very nice, calm and respectful. Made this course easy even though it was hard. Learned a lot from him. Ask him questions as many as you want will never get annoyed. I would recommend everyone to take his class.
Awesome professor! He loves to educate his students. I would 100%recommend this professor because he is very knowledgeable and believes in their students to achieve more.
Best professor! His teaching methods are the best. He makes you to study hard. He ignite a spark in your mind that you automatically learn about the subject. Please attend his classes because the classes are well structured.
Classes are well structured and even paced. He makes everyone follow along as he does SQL commands on the screen, and makes sure ours work and we shared our screen if it didn't. The homework is similar to the classwork. Homework, midterm, and final. He's like that cool Russian uncle that knows a thing or two about a thing or two
This Teacher Is one of the best ones in NOVA hands down. Been taking him for 5 of my IT classes and have been a great pleasure knowing this Teacher at Alexandria Campus. If you are first starting out with nova in the IT profession I would highly recommend taking this teacher for the entire Degree if possible every class you get a chance with.
He has his moments. recommend read 3 chapters a week because he tends to jump back and forth. WATCH A LOT OF YOUTUBE OF JAVA especially if ur new. no worries like few hw and he gives quizzes near MID and Final. No lockdowns. Yes extra credit. Java can be a little stressing but hes alright. Just google or use other resource for help. Create Discord
Great professor, knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about, definitely taking him again
The best professor, very knowledgeable and understanding
In my class the mid term and final together were 55% of the grade, so make sure to study well for those. There are not a ton of assignments and each one teaches you something more about python. There is usually a some short, to the point word doc to look over in each module, still watch some utube tho. He bumped up my B to an A, very understanding.
In-person/Spring2025/ You will learn with him. Every class, we do an exercise and he walks around giving us feedback. The finals are not easy, some questions that we do not cover in class, but it's on the book. I would definitely take it again. Attendence mandatory!
I highly recommend this professor. His instructions are clear, he genuinely cares about his students, and he always offers extra help when needed. His classes are engaging and interactive, which makes learning enjoyable and easy to follow.
One of the best professors in NVCC By far. The man is straightforward and highly knowledgable. So kind and well respected by not only students but his own colleagues. He organizes content affectively in his own coursework. Great professor.
He is a very kind and knowledgeable professor. Really enjoy his class, and 💯 recommend him.
One of the best professors. Explains everything clearly and makes the class very easy to follow. Highly recommend.
