One of the best economics teachers in the University. Easy midterm/final and crystal clear notes.
Amazing prof!! I hated economics until I had a couple classes with this prof. He makes it easy to understand and he is fun and easy going. Extremely fair assignments and exams, super helpful. Strongly recommend.
Enjoyed learning from someone passionate about what they are teaching.
He is so lazy, never have any power points, so you have to copy his notes all the time, but some times he is lazy to write it down. he never cares whether you understand or not. His TA is a hard marker. The midterm average was 40+. He is so emotional for making exam questions.
Hes very good when it comes to teaching the material. But for his tests he never gave a real outline of what to expect except "everything gone over in class". The tests were straight forward enough and didn't try to trick you, but with so much material in the class it would be nice to at least know the format and which content to really focus on..
Glad I took his class. Go to his lectures! He describes everything in detail, enough that you will hardly even need the textbook and he will go out of his way to make sure the class understands. Always asking if the class is following, is very open to questions and doesn't put you on the spot. Very easy on the eyes!!!!!!
Lectures can be a little heavy but thats par of the course in economics. He uses real life examples that make sense and checks with the class multiple times to make sure students are not lost. He is flexible with his assignment dates and works them around his lectures. His TA sucks so check your papers for mistakes and extra marks. MUST TAKE CLASS
He is a really goood pro, he will not make you feel boring in the econ class. It is really important to go to class on time and take the notes. If you follow that you will get 70 really easy.
rude. unhelpful.
Really good prof, makes his own notes that are great help, midtermexam same as assignments
He is a good prof, funny and helpful but he is a lazy guy. still like him! midterm is almost same as the assignment question!
Best prof ive had in the department. Posts detailed lecture notes online, dont buy a textbook. lectures are clear and to the point. assignments are hard but use the lecture notes. He tells you whats on the exam, but keep in mind his exams are still hard so study and you will do good in his classes. Has some good stories to
Best, most passionate prof in the entire department and probably university. If you haven't taken a class with George, you're missing out and should consider it. Great examples and his lecture notes are better than the text book. Funny and relatable while never losing professionalism.
one of the best prof i have ever come across in econs department, he is such an easy going prof that is willing to help whenever you approach him. midterm and finals are very easy as long as you do your assignment. am sure going to be taking more econs classes with him again.
Good prof, great understanding of his field. He takes a different perspective than some profs might, I found it refreshing. Depended on the lecture notes that he provided. An asset to the Econ department. Take him if you have the chance
He is super knowledgeable and willing to help but is also very busy and very disorganized. I thought at first he was just really difficult until I spoke with him. He marks by giving you 100% and deducting when you make mistakes, so short and concise answers are better than long drawn out answers.
I found his lectures to be very informative, and I would highly recommend not missing a class if possible. He is a little disorganized but if he was late on posting an assignment he would extend the due date. His online notes he posted were a little much but again would highly recommend read them before class if possible.
George is so hot! He's the smartest person I know. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. His material is hard. Read his lecture notes before class.
George is an engaging prof. It was hard to know what to expect for grading. Double check your grades. The TA isn't the best. Overall, I highly enjoyed the class and would take another class with him.
George is the best, very specific and straight to the point on most topics. The only thing is that he isnt good at responding to emails so if you need help approach him in person
One of the best profs in the economics department! Very practical teaching style, and prepares you for the real world with examples of his career experiences. Very approachable outside of class, and is willing to help with anything-whether it be an economics question, or just need some career guidance! Oh and super nice to look at too! ;)
I freaking love George. His lectures are genuinely interesting. He pretty much gave away the questions for the final and midterm and the assignments were very fair. The textbook is super not mandatory, don't buy it. Honestly, probably my fav prof so far in uni. Take a class with him if you can.
No no no no ,,, dnt go with this prof
I would not recommend this prof to anyone.
His lecture notes are amazing. Hes putting so much time and effort to it. One of the best prof Ive ever had.
George is a super funny and interesting prof. He posts super detailed notes, and hints at what are the most important concepts. If you work hard in his class you will be rewarded. Also he is super nice and helpful outside of class.
Horrible
One of my favourite profs. He is very passionate about what he teaches and will help everyone to succeed if you put the effort in. Very detailed lecture notes online but they dont do much if you dont attend class. Exams are hard but if you put effort in you will do good.
George is a great prof if you too are interested in the class and put the effort in. Assignments were not hard but took a good bit of time to do. Exams were hard but if you see him and ask questions and study you will succeed. He is one of those profs who are hard if you dont care but amazing if you put the effort in to succeed.
Amazing prof
He is horrible, he speakes very fast and makes notes taking extremly hard. He posts notes online but one doc is like 10 pages long. I would never ever take his class again, if i have to i will quit the university
He is a good prof, he is willing to work with students to get the grade you want. If you didn't do good on the midterm and the assignments , he lets you put all those marks towards the final exam.
George is great! He basically tells you what gonna be on all your exams and his lectures are really informative. He also has really detailed notes online so there's no need to get the textbook. I'm looking forward to taking more classes with him in the future
George is a great prof who cares about the students and wants to see them succeed. his lectures are content heavy and require lots of note taking, but you wont be tested on anything he doesn't talk about in class. Know what he's talking about and brings humor to lectures.
George makes his lectures interesting and topical. He posts all his notes online, which is great, although they are often quite dry and struggle to get to the point at times. His tests and assignments are straight out of the notes. He is accessible and friendly during office hours, but not great with replying to email. Overall, he is a good prof.
Take class with George if you don't mind a prof whose lectures aren't rigid and structured. Assignments prepare you enough of what will be on the midterm. He repeats stuff over and over again in class which helps when dealing with hard concepts but also could be time consuming. He's also a very considerate prof so put in work and you'd be fine.
George is a great guy and prof, provides you with his own personal lecture notes for each chapter so the textbook is not required. 2 hand in assignments, midterm and final. Final was very short and easy. George is always willing to answer questions outside of class. Would take again
George is great! He posts his own notes from the textbook with plenty of examples that he uses to teach off of so we don't have to buy the textbook. He will give away answers if you pay attention as he wants people to pass and learn Economics. He will also go on tangents and loop back around to the topic on hand, making class entertaining.
U really doesnt need any text book. Whatever he provides is enough and he talks alot and tries to make students understand
Still the best prof I have had in this uni. Econ 342 might be the hardest course I have ever taken, it is simply a difficult to understand subject, however, I would not take it from any other prof in this school. Goerge does a great job of explaining and makes this topic simply fascinating.
George delivers a solid and entertaining lecture that is friendly even to a non econ student. He explains things well, and is sure to relate them to the exams and assignments. He is a very flexible grader moving weights around, and is quite helpful during his office hours. He may seem arrogant but he is a nice guy and wants students to do well.
Horrible, extremely arrogant.
I found George was an average prof. He is not one of my favourites but is not a bad prof. We had one midterm and two assignments in his class. He posts his own lecture notes so you don't need the textbook which is nice. One annoying thing though is that when things moved online his tests do not allow you to go back to previous questions to review.
By far the best econ prof there is. That being said the standard is very low for econ profs. George is arrogant and does what he wants and makes sure you know that. 2 midterms and a final with 2 assignments which are manageable. Decent lecture but gets off track. He did not handle switching online because of Covid well. I still would recommend him
AVOID THIS PROF!!! He is very arrogant and clearly does not care about his students.
His lectures were a bit tough to follow but he was very funny and explained most things in a good way (sometimes a little more difficult than necessary). His class was not easy, I worked very hard and studied a lot. He was overall pretty good. His multiple choice are very hard but easy to make up points with short answer. Don't skip class.
Great professor .. great discussions ..i like the way he explains the matters of economics.
Easily the most interesting professor I have had all semester. He is very knowledgeable, and I have learned so much. There is not a lot of work (2 assignments, 1 midterm, and 1 final), but they are difficult. He does go off track a lot, but when he does he is generally teaching the class about something that is really interesting.
He is very good prof. His notes were so helpful. If there was any doubts I always used to ask in class and he always explained it very well.
George is an amazing prof and he keeps his lectures interesting. I always felt comfortable answering questions in class and he answered them the best he could. He has two assignments, 1 midterm and a final. They are difficult but if you use his detailed lecture notes, you will do fine. Definitely will take another class from him.
Lectures are very engaging and interesting. Midterm and assignments were difficult but the final was easier. You have to go to class because he tells you what is on the tests.
George is one of the best Econ profs. He teaches the material in a way which makes it easy for students to understand and cuts through the jargon making the concepts easier to grasp. Would strongly recommend
George is a great lecturer and a fair grader. He has lecture notes that cover all the material he will go over in the lectures, no textbook required. He explains things well and covers the things he will ask on midterms/exams. Curves the average and fair marker. I took this course online because of COVID-19 keeping campus closed.
Maybe if George was less concerned with seeming like a cool guy he'd actually put effort into teaching. Economics does not come naturally to all of us!! Does little to simplify complex ideas and motivate students. Wish he would act his age.
Really nice guy, but concepts are difficult to follow along as he jumps around in the lecture notes and no other resources are given. Really easy to pass though cause he applies a grading curve that raises everyones mark.
He's an alright prof. He seems to think everyone is attracted to him (which gets nauseating). He's terrible at online teaching, imagine a whiteboard in a spare room with terrible sound and worse lighting. But he does encourage discussions, makes his lectures interesting and he gives you his notes. Easy grader, just don't bruise his ego!
he a good prof, but dont try to ask him a question, he doesnt like being asked questions unless they are in depth about the content, but explains the content good enough that you can understand the basic concepts.
George is often unprepared for class. No slides, only his lecture notes. Reads the notes as he draws graphs on the white board. Tries to make the class laugh. Talks a lot about his free time to golf. Midterm took 3-4 weeks to get back. But seems to have no problem shifting marks around. Shared too much about his feelings on Covid early in the sem.
The focus of the course is to write one essay. Lectures can be boring if you're even somewhat aware how to write. Not much to talk about other than the structure of a paragraph. More classes cancelled here than anywhere else. George seemed uninterested in teaching this course. Overall if done well, the essay is a good student project for a resume.
Says to not use textbook, yet gets info from textbook for lecture notes. The lecture notes given were hard to read and understand. Read everything, even if he tells you that it won't be on the exam. Extremely lax attitude towards class average being between 45 and 51. Teaching skills are limited.
This is a good class for an economics major as it will prepare you to write a research paper. George is a good teacher and there is a lot to learn from him.
Absolutely fantastic prof and would absolutely take from him again. Posts all of his lecture notes but they probably won't make sense if you weren't there going through the material in class
George is an all around good guy, lays out what to expect for midterm and final. Always accessible during office hours and very good at responding to emails. I have taken a handful of courses from George and will continue until the end of my degree. Wants to see his students succeed
George explains things in a way that is very relatable and easy to follow. He does go through examples quite quickly in class sometimes, but his lectures notes that he posts are incredibly helpful and make up for that. This class is not easy and you have to put in the work to do well. Wish my remaining courses could be taken with George! Great prof
Lectures are a bit hard to follow, but he provides detailed lecture notes that are very helpful. It is a difficult course but is graded on a curve. His exams are hard, but he tells us exactly what questions to expect. He didn't follow a textbook and didn't provide any practice questions, which made the course quite difficult to follow.
Thinks we'd be able to easily grasp very complex topics and gets disappointed if the class average is 54. Take his class if you already know a lot about Econ but also want to make it harder for yourself to get a good grade.
George runs a tough course, but is a great lecturer, and explains concepts intuitively. You NEED to supplement his lectures with his posted lecture notes. His posted lecture notes are comprehensive, and are easy to follow. However, he is terrible at teaching online, so only take him for in person classes.
George is the best lecturer at the University of Regina and I highly encourage anyone studying economics to take courses through him. Does an amazing job at making complex topics relatable and interesting with detailed lecture notes. He shows he has experience in the classes he teaches and often gives tips on how to get high grades on his tests.
Professor Hartner is a very genuine professor who shows a real interest in the topic he teaches, and that really helps generate interest in the class. The lectures were very important to attend and there were very few things he graded with. He also does a pretty strong linear curve on exams and assignments if the class average is low.
George has an amazing ability of taking ideas that would otherwise be hard to communicate and turning them into plain english. If you are a student who has interest in economics or finance I would highly recommend you take his class.
Personally Mr. Hartner is easily my favourite professor in my time at the U of R. He is very knowledgable about Economics and teaches it very well. He doesn't use slides, but instead uses a white board which makes following along easier. He communicates the topics well and uses great examples. There are 2 assignments, one midterm and a final.
The lectures were awesome. Prof taught Econ 231 for the first time. He was able to deliver the content pretty well
Attendance is not mandatory but lots covered in lectures that notes may not totally reflect. Notes are posted after classes but sometimes a few weeks later. He gives you info on what to expect for the class and exams. Wants you to learn and understand. Is happy to answer questions. Fair marker. Will definitely take more classes from him.
I took George's ECON 201 a few semesters ago and he was the best economics professor I've ever had. Just show up to the lectures, take notes, and actually listen to what he is talking about and you will pass. I wish I could have taken him for my other ECON courses as well.
Professor Hartner is very knowledgeable about course content, he uses examples that make sense and will go over material if not understood. Show up for class and get ready to learn and you will do just fine. Just make sure you take notes about what he says is important.
As long as you take notes and pay attention you will do great. He uses a whiteboard so it is easy to follow along and he will go over a question until people understand. He constantly stops to make sure people are understanding what he is saying. The assignments are good at preparing you for the exams. He posts good detailed lecture notes as well
George is one of the best professors I've ever had. This course is pretty light if you have a business/finance background and an interest in economics. He keeps lectures as interesting as possible even though the bit of material on banking regulations can be dry. Participation not necessary but definitely suggested as lots of hints about exams.
Easily one of the best professors I have had in my 5 years of post secondary. Keeps the lectures clear and to the point with no problem going back over things you may have missed, is accessible outside of class for extra help as well. Will only be taking econ classes taught by George in the future.
Had George for Econ 201, 202, 231, and 342. He is by far the best economics professor on this campus. Sometimes he can be a bit over the place but other than that he makes his expectations very clear. This guy is an absolute g
A great prof! George provides clear and concise notes on UR courses and this helps to simplify the main concepts. He explains the key details during classes, though they might get wearisome and boring at times. He is even accessible outside classes during his office hours for further reviews.
Great professor! I have no background in Economics at all, but with George I learned a lot! He gives many examples and all questions are valid! You will never feel dumb lol He gives study materials on UR courses w/c is good if you miss a day. The only bad thing I can say is, his voice is quite difficult to hear so I recommend sitting in front.
He is so hot. Also a great prof. Easy marker. Very good at catching cheaters. It's like a sixth sense. 3 people cheated. I didn't cheat though. It was probably Mark honestly. Or Gavin.
I think he's one of the best Economics Professors at the University. Just show up to class, pay-attention (especially to the things he says will be on the midterm/final). Ask questions during class if you're confused, and start working on the term paper early. If you follow all this, you'll get an easy A. Definitely recommend this course w/ George.
Great professor, very helpful and good at explaining difficult subjects.
George has great classes, he is very clear and knows exactly what he is talking about. I was very happy to go to his class every day. My problem was that he just sends all his assignments and tests to a TA who probably doesn't speak English and everyone just gets like 3/100 on everything. So you have to go back to his office to get it remarked.
Amazing class
George is a fairly good prof. He would put everything he got to help get a good grade, but the TA grades really bad. He usually teaches a big class so you Need to focus. His handwriting isnt visible so make sure to sit infront. Good luck
Great professor and has Best teaching methods. He clear all the doubts of students and gives good explanation to the questions with great examples. 10/10 remarks for this professor.
Interesting lecturer - but other than that do not recommend for 202. Does not follow a textbook but rather each lecture content jumps across a series of overly long and complicated lecture notes. Class was unorganized and impossible to follow along with the notes. 0 opportunities to practice material outside of the 2 tests and 2 assignments.
Professor Hartner was the only professor I had this semester who did not use slides. He cares about economics, and teaches the class in a genuine and engaging manner. At times the class felt overwhelming and difficult to keep up with, however after going over the lecture notes the concepts came together. He expects a lot, but it is meaningful.
If you have to take Econ 100, then I recommend you take it with George. He cares about economics and will always make sure you don't have any questions. Is a bit old school with him not having any slides but if you take notes you will be fine. He has great respect for his students and is always willing to answer any possible questions you have.
George is an amazing Econ professor! He uses the old school method of no online notes and all lectures notes are to be taken as you please! The best way to pass his class is to show up to every lecture and he explains the topics in great detail and one can miss a lot of absent. There are only two assignments so be sure to study hard
Professor Hartner is an outstanding educator, highly recommended for his engaging and insightful lectures. Attending all sessions is crucial to fully grasp the material and benefit from his expertise.
good experience
Attendance is not mandatory, however he doesn't give slide notes/notes, so just make sure you have friends in class who can take note when you are absent
Overall Professor Harnter was a pretty good professor, would highly recommend going to his lectures as you'll be dazed and confused trying to navigate the material.
Good prof but his lectures are very boring
Great professor. Classes are fantastic and engaging. The only problem is that for an introductory class, there are lot of topics to learn. George does not give sets of exercises to solve, so it can be hard to grasp some topics just with theory. I recommend checking if the econ book has exercises or searching on the internet for econ exams to solve.
If you already took econ 100 with George, this class is just free marks. Half of topics are from econ 100 and the second half is similar to the first half in logic. Some lectures can get repetitive but engaging nontheless.
Fails to comprehensively teach the material, jumps around a lot, rants about random things, said 43% was average and pretty good for the midterm. This was a spring class.
Talks alot. Explains everything with detail. Nice professor.
If you can study on your own you can easily get 95+ he curves grades at the end by like 5%. Assignments not too hard and exams also very easy he didn't make it cumulative even the final. He's great at teaching but doesn't post clear slides but lecture notes which are cluttered and over complicated however he is great at teaching just take notes.
I have had George in multiple courses throughout my degree. He is straightforward and genuine. His course outline is usually 2 assignments, a midterm and final. He will tell you explicitly the topics covered on each of these, and will do a comprehensive dive into the topics.
Professor Hartner's class is tough but engaging. Take diligent notes, and use resources like the textbook and Unstuck AI to supplement the lectures. Hard work pays off with good grades.
icl midterm was buns + overcomplicated asl
Don't pay attention in class 0 percent chance of passing
Nice guy but I don't like his teaching style. He doesn't use course materials, provide notes and just writes on a whiteboard and talks. It was sometimes hard to follow. His exams were also difficult. There was only 2 assignments, a midterm and a final in the whole course so you had to make sure you get really good marks on those. He curves grades.
I didn't really like his teaching style as it was super hard to follow. I also would've liked more practice questions as it was hard to learn material (in my opinion) from only two assignments and a midterm. His lectures were also a little scattered.
Frankly this guys is overrated. His lectures are allover the place and mostly disconnected from the text. at first I thought it was nice to have 2 assignments but I felt completely unprepared for my exams. Thankfully the lab teacher Galushko explained things very well and I managed to do Ok.
Attend class regularly and complete the assignments. The instructor provides comprehensive explanations, so it is crucial to pay attention to ensure understanding.
All classes of his are great except THIS ONE. Buying and reading the textbook are mandatory, or you will fail the class. The first class that I saw him using slides, and mostly reading off of them. Assignments and exams are qualitative and marked subjectively. Great guy, not so great class
They got me hooked into economics.
From the sounds of it, great proof, just not for this class. The class itself is great but the grading and how subjective and touch and go it can be is very hard to deal with if you want a decent grade (the TA was extremely inconsistent in grading and almost everyone got below passing grades initially). Don't avoid the prof, avoid this class!
George is a gem. The best part of his class is, if you show up, he will outline exactly the topics he will put on the exam. I look to only take economics courses with him.
Amazing professor, but please avoid Econ 234 at all cost.
