Geology - Interesting class, but A LOT of work. Prepare to work hard for an A .

Hathaway tends toward monotone. I RECOMMEND extra credit field trips. You can learn a lot from this guy if you can get past his sarcastic wit. He shines in the field, though, and this is where you're going to learn the most about geography and geology.

Dr. Hathaway is a very intresting man who is an expert in his field of study. He tends to be softspoken but if you listen to him, you cant help but learn from him.

Dr. Hathaway made me laugh the first day, reminds me of Mark Twain. He knows his stuff and offers good amount of extra credit. STudy, take notes and talk to him. You'll do fine, if you let him know your interested and he knows your name, it will help you

Dr. Hathaway is a great guy if you get to know him! A lot of videos granted but it allows you to see another point of view. Monotone speaking voice but can insult you and maje it sound good if you're not carful! Take him and you will learn!

Hathaway's class was very cool. If you take notes and study you should be able to pull B's. Funny guy.

Good class, he keeps his door open for anyone that need help. Teaches his class like your are at a University. This is not a hard class, all you have to do is STUDY, and you will past. So if your are just out of high school this will be your first lesson in College learning, and what is expected.

mr. hathaway is the greatest science professor of all time. I used to get f's in all my science classes but now that i have hathaway this semester (fall 04) i am getting an A. he basically sppon feeds all the material you need. dont listen to what others say he isnt hard if you read your notes.

Hathaway is a very good professor and is not the typical crazy science teacher. He does not believe all the hole in the ozone and global warming. You will have to write a paper disproving on of these topics. Highly recommend

Take this class. He's a fun teacher.Always ready to help. He tells you what is on the tests-write it down! He doesn't think all pollution is from volcanoes-he's referring to global-warming causation. You don't have to disprove anything- just research and give your own opinion. That student is crazy!

One of the best instructors I've ever had. Really loves his subject and makes it easy to learn. Class is challenging, but you can get a good grade by learning the material. I actually took a lot of knowledge from the class as well.

OK, he's bored, unhappy, hates the school, commutes long distances, is vague about answering questions, doesn't review well for tests, and gives a cumulative final (13 chapters!) But if you work hard (not moved by ass kissing) you'll do well. Got an A but worked my butt off! Likeable but tough. Knows his subject! Extra credit for field trips a must

So, this man, not the greatest lecture-er, not totally the greatest professor either. But I don't know why people would say he's hard. It's like any other class. There is no "intense" studying. Just study, that's it. This is COLLEGE, not high school. He's enthusiastic about teaching you, he knows he can be boring, so tries not to lecture too much

His lecture may be a tad boring, but the lab is fun. Some say he wont answer questions, just ask him something and he'll put you in the right direction, he wants you to think, not recieve answers. Don't be afraid of him, he's a great guy, just a bit dull on the edges due to the current situation of the science department and its horrible dean.

Read the book and listen take notes and you will pass! He explains it very well and puts on great videos to understand better.So if you cant pass his class then you should drop out of school!!

Unfortunately he missed 4 classes in the Fall semester (1 time due to the fires). His lectures are really good, so when he missed 4 classes, of course it's going to effect your ability to learn. He doesn't like people that goof off or don't pay attention in class. Take notes and read the book. It's a good class and he is very knowledgeable.

Just took professor hathaway this spring and after reading the comments was a little worried. Let me tell you though he isnt bad at all. All of his tests he practically tells you how to study for and although some of his labs seemed impossible to do if you asked him for help he was glad to assist you and in many cases give you the answers.

His class was better than I expected. He was very nice and helpful and wants his students to pass. His tests are from his notes, book and on-line quizzes. Stay for the extra credit jeopardy games, they are not only fun, but they are a great review for tests. Trip to Aquarium is a great way to earn extra credity points. I learned alot in this class.

He seems very bored of teacing the smae thing year around but clearly knows his stuff. I did O.K. on his tests and still got a B...GO ON THE EXTRA CREDIT FIELD TRIP, IT WILL MAY YOUR GRADE.

Professor Hathaway is a very kind person, but he has little tolerance for those who don't care about their education, or who are irresponsible. If you make an effort to get to know him, it will definitely pay off in the end. He wants to help those who want to help themselves, and he really wants his students to succeed.

This is my favorite professor I've ever taken. He steps up to the global warming bs, teaches a great class. Hes very arrogant with good reason, because he is passionate about earth science, and truth. His tests aren't free, and if you study you'll do fine. This guy is a phd with UCLA history, and a fun guy to talk to in labs.

As long as you pay attention and do your work in lab its an easy class. The Death Valley field trip is cool.

Most of the students that say he is a bad professor are the ones that don?t want to learn and just sit in class waiting to be handed a good grade without putting in the work. He teaches you that when you don?t have the answer you need to use your "brain" and figure it out. That is the key to being successful at whatever you do in life.

Oceanography. Wow, tough material to get through but he knows his subject. Is extremely smart and isn't afraid to show it. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT, it will save your butt. Overall, not your comedian or popular teacher but it's only because he actually knows what he's talking about. Hope I am as dedicated to science as he is one day. Two Thumbs Up.

Dr. Hathaway is very nice, funny and helpful. The test wasn't too hard but I found myself missing questions because I didn't read the entire chapter. He talks about global warming a lot, but its okay if you come in with an open mind, he has a Doctorate in Geology you can't exactly just ignore what he says he's got some great points! Overall great!

CLASS IS SUPER HARD. HE IS HELPFUL. LOVES TO TALK GLOBAL WARMING. AND HE DOES NOT MAKE YOU MEMORIZE ANYTHING YOU DONT NEED. CLASS GETS BORING AND LAB IS TOO LONG. DO THE LABS. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT HE DID GET HIS DOCTRINE FROM UCLA!

This class is not all that hard: do the reading, pay attention in lab, and try not to fall asleep during videos. Yes, he can be boring, and he rants a little too much, but the students encourage him. And since I know he reads these, let me say, thanks for being honest and helpful whenever I had a question and please learn to ignore comments from the people who just want to waste class time. I found the other students more annoying than Hathaway or the material.

This is a truley delightful Instructor to have and probably the best for getting the other side of the truth.

Honestly the coolest teacher! The class was very interesting and I learned a lot! I am being dead honest, if you don't have any brain cells, then you wont pass and find this class hard. However, if you're a lucky individual and have more than one brain nerve cell then this class will be easy. Highly recommend this class to raise one's GPA!

I thought he as great! I don't necessarily enjoy science but he made it interesting and I looked forward to going to class. He forced me to question the whole concept of global warming, and opened my eyes to a more truthful perspective. And his sense of humor is hilarious.

Dr. Hathaway may appear to be arrogant when he's giving his lectures but he is truly a helpful teacher. I've never encountered a teacher who would go out of his way just to make sure his students are taken care of. I must say that I misjudged his character. He is generous with his time, just go to his office hours. Global warming myth falsified!

The people who complain about Hathaway are the ones who aren't willing to put any work in. His lectures are easy to follow but the labs can be difficult. However, as long as you show that you're making an effort, he is helpful... And an interesting person! Glad to hear someone speaking out about global warming myths.

Quite a knowledgable professor but the class lectures were mostly based on videos which were a bit dull. Grade is fully based on quizzes, exams and attendance. Extra Credit may be given depending on the class you're taking. MUST READ the BOOK and study the LECTURE NOTES for the TEST! I passed the class thanks to the final grade curve and the EC.

Needed science w/ lab for transfer. Took this class and am pleased. The professor is not bad or too hard at all. The labs are hard but you can get help. The lectures were kind of interesting because he's super passionate about global warming and politicians; particularly Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi. Makes a pretty good argument.

Never ever take this class if youre pregnant. Your mind is half there lol well it didn't help me. I would have passed if I'd had decided to take this a another semester. He's a good teacher. Reading in a must.

I learned the most out of this class than any of my classes taken this semester. Hathaway is very passionate about what he teaches and I believe he deserves to be teaching at a university level.Some constructive criticism would be to go over the test after it is graded so students could have a better idea of what they got wrong and why.Great class!

He's a solid professor and I recommend taking the class so long as you will stay on top of attending lecture and lab. He is pretty strict and if you miss more than a few classes you wont do as well. Just show up and you ought to get a B pretty easy. Sure he rants about global warming, but who cares?

While he may talk about global warming and his PHD a lot, he really is a nice person who cares about his students. His sense of humor may be a tad dry for some but I thought it was hilarious. He teaches like a professor at an university would and that means less hand holding, but I do wish he had explained the labs a bit more.

Great sense of humor which makes the subject a lot more fun. He does talk about his Phd a lot, but it's only to show that he has the qualifications to talk about things like Global Warming. LABS: they're difficult, but read before the lab and you'll be fine. Test are really easy and organized by chapter. Great guy overall!

My favorite classprofessor by far and thats saying a lot because I didn't like him at the start of the semester and I've taken a ton of classes. If you do your reading, take notes, and pay attention in class you'll succeed. Participate in the field trips, you won't regret it. Doc knows his stuff and his passion shows in his lectures. Take this class! Why? Because Dr Hathaway changes your perspective on climate change and global warming. Easy class? No. Honestly I was close to dropping it. I have absoutely ZERO interest in Geology. But his lectures challenge you to think outside the box and not be influenced by popular belief. Expect difficult labs & to earn your grade!

Lectures are interesting if you ask questions. About global warming, he teaches you to be critical and do research before believing ANYTHING, because that's what all scientists and people should do. I'm not a great test taker but his aren't bad. I got b's by just reading the book the night before. Lab is easier w/ good partners. Gives extra credit

No homework, papers, or projects. Just easy exams, lab, and an extra credit field trips. The only difficulty is in the labs. If you don't have good lab partners he lets you request new ones. Take that option! The vast majority passed, A's went on the trips, D's/F's never went to class. It's really not bad and the class is really interesting.

Try to get good lab partners,READ EVERY CHAPTER,Make notecards for terms for quizzes&exams!!! Very important to make this class your first priority! It is passable, also make sure to go on the Extra Credit trip(WILL HELP). DONT USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS!!! Talks about himself yes but means no harm, definitely got me thinking about the class. Professor Hathaway is the kindest most caring geology professor you will come across in you're 4+(let's be real) yrs. Flawless locks of hair. Great attitude towards teaching and very charismatic. All lectures are VERY engaging and dynamic. A+++

Look, if you show up and pay attention, youll pass the class. Its not that hard. Hes not going to spoon feed all the information to you like other teachers will. He knows the answers to each question regarding all aspects of rocks, earth and the study of geology without hesitation or arrogance. Makes me wish I had taken this class years ago so I could learn more.
