This tiny 70 year old man surprised me when he first opened his mouth. He's extremely smart, sarcastic, hilarious, way knowledgeable of the course, and insulting in the cutest way: "What do the Koreans say? 'Oso oso!'" (I'm Asian). Miss 4 classes and you fail. Your first seat is your assigned seat, so pick well.

BEST PROF EVER! Honestly I have found only a small handful of outstanding prof, and Hoffer def makes the top 2! Yes his rants can be pointless at times, but for the most part interesting and funny. to get an A=come to class, do the hw, and pay attention to when he goes over hw. Don't leave class early or fall asleep, he will call you out.

Hoffer's class is def one of the easiest I heard horror stories about econ before I took his class. His class is all about attendance, and hw. He is ALWAYS in his office and ready to help. Knows what he is talking about. He is HILARIOUS! If you are lazy stay away, but really you dont have to put too much effort just do HW and pay attention in class

He was a very good professor. He goes off on random topics sometimes and can he hard to understand. But overall would def. recommend him as a professor.

He is really smart, and the way he teaches keeps you interested. Even if you don't like economics he shows you how it is relevant in today's society. He makes funny jokes and is very absent minded. Lots of extra credit for goin to class. As long as you do the HW, maybe look over the book a bit and go to review sessions you'll get an A.

Greatest professor at VCU. Extremely funny. Lectures are great, but not always on topic. Loves bashing liberal economic policy...I got an A in both Micro and Macro with minimum study.

He is probably the best professor at VCU or anywhere else. He is an expert on the auto industry, he can lecture for a whole class period about the Japanese auto industry. Very easy, exams very short answer, but homeworks were somewhat redundant. You learn things in this class that you will never learn anywhere else, b/c he's taught here for 41 years

Professor Hoffer is one of the best professors at VCU. Do your homework, attend all classes, study regularly, and don't fall behind. If you do all of this, you'll be on track to get an A or B for sure!

He is very rude to many people...he can be very funny though, but i studied my butt off and still got a low grade. i read the chapters, took notes, but the tests were very confusing. if we didnt have all that extra credit for attendance and hw i would of failed!...TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!

Old George is a good teacher if you care about the subject of Econ. If not you will find this class unbearable. He tends to repeat stories a lot and he likes it when you know about economic current events (he gives extra credit for that). His notes are poor, but he is a lot better one on one. READ the book and you will get an A.

Those that say they did poorly and instruct you to find another professor: idiots. As far as econ goes, he is THE professor to take. Bar none. He's old (70-80? dunno, he's old) so you have to deal with his absent-mindedness and quirky humor, but the class is straightforward and relatively easy. Take take take. There is weekly hw and mand. attend.

Awesome Prof! Very Funny! Too bad he's retiring from VCU, but he will be teaching at Unv. of Richmond. His review sessions helped on the tests, he gave extra credit for showing up.
