Good professor

George is a GREAT teacher who is interested in the students needs. He makes any topic interesting. e.g. when talking about friction he illustrates with soap-box cars, with liquids, beer! He also portrays all the historical figures we learned about in a humorous way that helps in remembering.
If you want to be prepared for a future career in engineering, you need to take Kapp. He lets you know exactly what he expects of you and he doesn't through any trick. But if you want a professor that is going to baby you, you need not take this class. Welcome to the real world.
What a waste of time!!!!
Anyone who gives Kapp no credit whatsover didn't give him a chance. You get out what you put in. Be prepared to work hard if you want to survive in his class, no sissies last even the first exam. It is time well spent. Kapp will tell you like it is, what more can you ask for?
Ppl may not appreciate or be offended by his twisted sense of humor or love of beer, and mockery of historical figures and liberals- but he makes class interesting. Stick to it and work hard, and you can do well. hes a cool guy
the man is insane. tends to play favorites and is not very helpful outside of class. but he's a good teacher and explains things well. overall it's a pretty easy class.
His tests are really easy.
If you wanna be spoon fed, don't take his cls. he's fun, got jokes and loves beer. but requires hard work.

He was hard to get used to. Once you get used to him, he's a great teacher. Just be expected to pull you own weight. This class isn't for slackers. He is a weird guy but really smart.
George Kapp is a very good teacher. Hard, but pretty straight forward. You MUST study HARD! I enjoyed his class because I was so humbled by my grades on the test (they weren't good). But show up everyday to learn and you should end up with a reasonable grade IF YOU MAKE THE EFFORT TO WORK! (I got a B)
knows the subject but not a very good teacher.
knows his****
Mr. Kapp rocks. Physics is a pretty tough subjeect, but by attending all the classes, especially summer... I passed with a B-. he knows his stuff very well. Very relatable. Always talking about beer drinking. I didn't know anything about physic, but yet still got a B-
Really Knows his stuff.
George is a show off.
He is a great teacher that knows his stuff. He teaches through examples and does a great job getting the material across to his students. He does have a strict attendance policy though, so never be late! However, he does reward you for perfect attendance! He does seem like a jerk at times though.
knows his stuff. love his "creative grading" on tests (can't get anything lower then a 60% on a question). don't miss class. is confusing at times, ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mr. kapp does know his stuff. and he is a show off. sometimes he makes sense, but on average he isn't a very good teacher, he doesn't explain clearly and doesn't use real-life examples to make points. i was thoroughly disappointed with this class.
Kapp definitly knows physics. Good sense of humor. He makes the subject difficult to understand, and his availablilty for assistance is slim to none.
Doesn't teach the material well at all
George... what a guy. Expect to get your conception of physics to get retooled for reality's sake, if you're willing to follow. Also expect to hear the political views of a conservative, which as a liberal, I appreciated. Good humor, sometimes weird, but overall a nice guy who will tell you and teach you what you need. Thanks George!
Stay away.. Take Physics somewhere else if he is your only choice!
he's a very good teacher if you're willing to do the work' he will make your brain work' and he'll help you in the long run. but don't take him if you don't like physics and you're only taking it because you have to
Hard class! But Kapp is the only teacher for PHY 211. It is definitly possible to do good in the class just be ready to work your ass off! He's kind of an **** but eventually you get used to it.
Thinks he knows EVERYTHING and that he is smarter than Neuton. Most boring lecture of all time. Just goes over HW problems and his views on the most random crap.
This was an awesome class..you could take it 2 or 3 times and still learn a bunch each time. He not only teaches you about physics, but also about chemistry, problem solving, excel, and math. And politics :( He seems like a jerk, but if you study really hard and are interested in learning he's actually pretty nice and helpful believe it or not.
Who is the idiot who does not know how to spell Newton's name? Yeah, I bet you had a real hard time in this class. Physics is not an easy subject but prof. Kapp makes it fun and understandable. You have to work at anything you really want; so want it enough and you will get the grade.
Awesome!Best teach ive had@45+credits at WCC.Barely even did any homework, got a B.Seems like a bit of a conspiracy theorist(Ask him about insulation and who started a specific field of science)BUT he has CONVINCING ARGUMENTS.KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.Derives equations, shows unique ways to look at problems.NoBS,SWengineer personality? Awesome!!
He teaches well, derives equations, explains where the physics comes from, all that. Class is hard though. If you really want to learn Physics, this is the guy you want. If you want an easy Physics credit, you probably want someone else.
George Kapp is one of the worst professors I have ever had, and also one of the worse people I have ever met. His class was the worse learning experience I have ever had. I would NEVER take a class from him again. EVER. He thinks he is the only intelligent person on the planet and makes up absolutely RIDICULOUS things. Take this class from Gerlitz.
Kapp is the real deal in concerns to the physics of the real world. He is a hard professor and his teachings are sometimes a little complicated to understand but he WILL teach! and you will learn and you will get good life lessons!!! Nugh Said!
George Kapp is not in class to hold your hand, he is there to push you down the hill on your bike. He is very bright, and insightful and INCITING (no spelling error). His goal is to get YOU to think, and he works every angle he can find. Many people are turned off by his style, but I still recall things he said 15 years later. One of the best.
Very knowledgeable. He uses life experiences and tell USEFUL stories. It is very important to attend classes... GO TO CLASS!!!! Pay attention, take notes (study them)and do the homework. Do this and you should have no problem passing the course. If you want an A, do extra problems in the book and you will get there. GO TO CLASS!!! GO TO CLASS!!!
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS! I hardly put any time into this class outside of lecture, never did homework, and pulled off a B-. He gives better partial credit than any professor I've ever had 6 out of 10 points just for trying the problems. An A would be easy in this class as long as you go, do the homework, and truly understand HOW to do the problems.
Great, great, great teacher. Very funny, definately talks as if only engineers are in his class, DO THE HOMEWORK and go to class and you should be fine!
I had professor Kapp for physics 211. He shares a lot of stories that won't prepare you AT ALL for his exams and does a poor job at explaining concepts. Read his notes instead of the book.He is undeniably generous with points when grading though.
His class is a life experience. I am amazed by his knowledge. his notes are extremely valuable, and he is a great, great person as well. I loved him and loved physics even thogh i ended up with worst grade ever. But saying the truth, it was my fault by not managing my time well.
His class is not easy, you have to work hard. If you are actually there to learn the material you've got to take him. He is a brilliant guy and really knows his stuff. He tells you exactly what it's like in the real work. Hes hilarious plus he loves beer, guns, and cars!
I'll never take another WCC physics class without him. If you're going to be an engineer, you need him. He's tells you explicitly that you need to actually understand the stuff (not just memorize). This guys legit.
Has some funny stories, but moves fast and switches between slides before you can copy them. bring a HD video camera so you can use the lectures as tutorials when you get stuck on the homework or study for tests. Beware: tries to scare you with tests. Picks the HARDEST problems he can find. -- draw the pics, leave nothing blank, and you'll be ok.
What a waste of time and money! He taught us nothing.
Stay away.. Take Physics somewhere else if he is your only choice! All he does is to tell stories.
Stay away. He tells a lot of jokes while the students fall asleep. I am doing OK in his class but it is a waste of time.
Useless as a professor. Completely unprepared for class and when he doesn't know something, he skips over it. he stares at the PP slides and reads them to us for 2 hours. Not a good class.
This teacher is absolutely terrible. He copies the book onto the board, so going to class is worthless. Do not take him.
George Kapp is honestly the best engineering professor I have ever taken. Sure, it was a very difficult class and he is a strict grader but you should expect that from an engineering class.
Class is confusing and he doesn't do much to help. In fact he confuses you even more.
Not helpful at all, didn't ever stick to his own word. Tested on irrelevant subject matter and lectures were a waste of time. Told many stories that is all.
A knowledgeable guy but usually try to make you feel stupid. That makes us dare not to ask any further question. He doesn't try to be helpful and care about if we are still confusing. I just end up studying by myself most of the time.
He is incredibly difficult to follow and expects you to be able to figure everything out on your own. Never take any Physics class with him.
TERRIBLE TEACHER.
Babbles incomprehensibly and uses shoddy math to derive seemingly meaningless thermo equations for many weeks. In the last 2 weeks he starts talking about statistical thermodynamics. This dude is teaching the wrong class. Tests and homework are 100% recycled .
Kapp is a teacher who knows Physics. Unfortunately, it's obvious he's either become frustrated with being a teacher or never wanted to be one. This comes through in his teaching. He doesn't have any passion for teaching his students and tries to make you feel stupid for asking questions. He is a not a good teacher and not a nice guy at all.
Doesn't teach the material well at all. Stay away if you can.
RUN AND DO NOT LOOK BACK.. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR...
111 and 211 were almost identical courses joke for joke with the addition of a few new equations in 211. I left class knowing how to decipher physics problems. Spells out the fundamentals very clearly, follow them on the exam and you will get an A. Good luck in engineering school if you can't follow his instructions.
He uses these meaningless thermo equations for many weeks and In then he starts talking about statistical thermodynamics. This dude is teaching the wrong class.
By far the worst Professor ever. Shows up late unless he has a class prior. Doesn't hold office hours unless you ask him. All he does is read to you like your in 4th grade. Doesn't work example problems, not sure he knows how. Likes to insult students. Can't believe he still teaches .
Lectures are useless. All he does is work problems and do derivations (Which you can hardly understand him anyway). If you are lucky, you get a good Tutor for problem solving and they can actually go over the problems and clear things up. For everything else though, you're pretty much on your own. His labs are for fourth graders.
Smart man, horrible prof. Lectures not exam or homework guided at all. not much you can do to avoid him, just prey he stops. i learned most of the material from the textbook. George is really bad so good luck and sorry!
He rambled and would go off on weird random topics with the other profs in the middle of the lecture. Awful class
Lectures from bell to bell everyday. Writes sloppy cursive which is nearly impossible to read before getting used to it well into the semester. Tests are next to impossible with material not covered in class. ..
The worst Professor ever. Always shows up late to class . Stay away.
If you want to transfer to U of M, State or Wayne State for engineering, take him. he helps you understand how physics works, and how to apply it to real world engineering problems. he does assume everyone in this class is an engineer, so if you're not then it could be a bit of a drag. Do the work, pay attention, don't get offended and study.
Doesn't teach the material well at all. Stay away if you can. Don't waste your time.
Bad. Doesn't lecture well, very disorganized and unpredictable. Also arrogant. Not sure what I'm learning in this class.
Felt like I was paddling upstream much of the time in his class. Class involved long off-topic stories that usually involved stories about how stupid other people are and how much he wished he were drinking. He's a smart guy, but he acts like he doesn't give a s&*t most of the time, and it comes through in his teaching.
He's a terrible professor. His lectures are unclear and the design of his tests ,final (identical format) seem to be designed to trick and confuse students. On top of it he rarely give out points even for average work. Expect to be very frustrated and come out of the class knowing less physics than you knew going in.
I am an engineer and physics is the toughest subject for me. George was extremely thorough when going over the non required homework. The tests are just like the homework. His science stories are great and make the lecture less boring. He grades for partial credit on tests. He is a cool guy, and he knows what's hes talking about. Take him
Disrespectful and condescending. Makes PHY 111 unnecessarily hard.
Kapp is obviously brilliant, but doesn't care at all about teaching. He complains about the textbook he uses, and only assigns a few problems. He likes to throw curveballs on tests, making the problems more difficult than the ones assigned and reviewed in class. He also has an obnoxious attendance policy which can hurt your grade.
Easy grade but useless boring lectures.
Bad professor, learned nothing, stay away he is an old school pully !
He would go off on weird random topics AND TALKS about other profs in the middle of the lecture. Awful class . did not learn a thing!
Not helpful at all. Lectures are long and hard to follow. He is extremely unorganized, and never responded to emails. Would not recommend. Avoid.
Horrible teacher. Thinks everyone is stupid. Kapp is very smart but hes just not cut out to be a teacher. Unfortunately hes the only 211 teacher at WCC for some reason.
A waste of my time. If you don't want your interest in anything related to Physics to be tainted, don't take this class with him.
Bad. Doesn't lecture well, very disorganized and unpredictable. Also arrogant. Not sure what I'm learning in this class.
I don't know where to even start. Basically you will have to learn everything from the textbook and cross your fingers that the bell curve is in your favor.
Rude and arrogant as hell. Outspokenly denies man made climate change and tells students the scientists make up research for money. Does not belong in a science class.
How to describe Kapp? Well as many said he is an arrogant, condescending, dysfunctional teacher. That said, I personally loved him. The times I stayed after class to get another view, or better answer, yes I got crap for it. But I also learned the material better. This is a hard class any way you look at it. If you can handle Kapp, then its fine.
I have had four class sessions so far, and it seems that I will have to self learn the material. He is obviously smart and knowledgeable, but he does not teach well and wastes a lot of time doing derivations and going off on pointless stories. If you want a good grade in this class you will have to self learn.
I can confirm everything that had been said about him. He is awful
I felt that the focus on derivations was very important to understanding the material in class. Kapp focuses on showing problem solving techniques for physics questions using those derivations. These derivations are not found in the book but the final equations are. His teaching style is arrogant but he's not there to be your friend.
Didn't learn anything in class. He was just an awful teacher, he spent a lot of time on stories or political views that weren't good or funny, really. He made nothing intuitive in the slightest, and did things differently from anyone online or the textbook, so I was at a complete loss. I passed the class, because he curved everything up like 50%
Had her for Physics 211 several years ago. He definitively stands out in my mind as by far the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't explain things well. If you ask him why something is the way it is he always drops the ball on explaining. A cruel grader.
I took Kapp's intro physics class when I was in community college (11 years ago). Before I took his class I was a music major, and by the end of it, I decided physics was what I wanted to do with my life. I miss his lectures. The way he teaches the material is the way it ought to be taught. He is one of the biggest inspirations I've had in life.
