A Great guy. Truely wants you to pass. Does helpful demos and lots of lame jokes. But it keeps the class interesting. You have to go to class though b/c there are quizes almost daily. Homework is a must. hard tests, but fair.

Dr. Kuck is a great teacher and he really cares for his students. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I felt very fortunate to have him for a teacher. He makes every effort for his students to do well in his class.

He really is a great teacher and goes above and beyond his teaching requirements. He really wants every student to pass and learn about physics not just remember it for the tests. Make sure to go to class everyday for the quizzes. DO every extra credit!

He's definetly a teacher that knows his subject, but he just isn't able to get it across to the class. He really did try, but when the whole class is averaging a D...you gotta believe it's the teacher, not the subject.

I hated this class!! The teacher is very knowledgeable but he doesn't know how to teach the information to the students. He has good intentions, but they don't really help the student. Do E.C. whenever available and go to lab.

I had Dr. Kuck for the ACCELERATED summer version of this class. It was intense and there was way toooooo much work to do, but what's new about that? It's 16 weeks done in 6! For the babies who can't take the load-go back to High School! Great class

This professor is an extremely and intense instructor. He is excited about his subject area, and he does the majority of his lecture through demonstrations. If you cannot handle a 6 wk intense summer physics class, you shouldn't have been there.

Dr. Kuck is extremely helpful and a good professor. He does not make your feel dumb when you ask him questions. I encourage you to ask him any questions if you are unclear. His teaching involves demonstration for the cover materials that are helpful.

Very good teacher and helpful. I've learned a lot in the 6-week summer course. Imagine what more I would have learn if more time was given. I encourage all to take his class. Do the extra credit and home experiment, it help.

Both the textbook written for the class and the lectures are unclear. Learning little more then manipulating the data. Instructor offers tons of extra credit work; why should students have to do extra credit and extra work for good grade? Clear instuction in plain english would be better.

Lets just say that the average score on the first test was a 59%. When questioned about this he said that it reflected how hard the subject was. After several years of teaching, Kuck should realize this reflects his ability as a teacher. Kuck has difficulties coming down to the level of his students

He is very unclear when it comes to everyday lecture and his tests need a serious reduction in the number of questions, but if you make the effort to get his help outside of class hours, he's extremely helpful. He's always willing to answer any question, no matter how many you have.

Dr. Kuck is a very smart professor. You can tell he knows his material but he does not present it in a manner that makes his students understand. I've given up on trying to understand his lectures. The only thing i pay attention to now is how often he wears that same damn shirt.

His class is the biggest waste of time ever. He's a "conservative Republican Christian", the lowest form of life on the planet. What happened to separation of church and state? Class average on exam-59%-he says its normal. Thinks physics and voting are related. I used to love physics, now i hate it.

Given that he only has 50 minutes to give a lecture, and that he's no longer exactly a spring chicken, I think he does a decent job of explaining the material. However, if I didn't have the textbook I'd be completely lost.

He's very nice, friendly and helpful but I think he covers the material too quickly. He should take time in class to go over any homework problems that anyone has. I like his positive outlook on life and his sense of humor(albeit a little weird ;) even at such an early hour of the morning!

It's not that Dr. Kuck doesn't know what he's talking about. He's just not very good at relating it to you. Also, he'll never answer your questions! He tries to get you to figure it out yourself... but with no more information than when you first asked the question.

Prof. Kuck is nice, but he struggles with clarity in teaching. The text is confusing and poorly written and the class is physics, which is very hard for most students . Instead of giving problems and clear answers, though, we have to figure everything out using hard formulas we've never used before!

Dr. Kuck is very friendly with a lot to say. He is easygoing with homework and its like free points. Physics does not come easy for me and the fact that the book is SO difficult to understand doesnt help much either. If anything, I think a better book would help ease the pain. Nice man, hard class.

I think he knows the material really well, he just has a difficult time relating it to the class. Tests were ridiculously difficult... way too many problems for the 50 minutes we have in class. Be prepared to learn from the book.

most of the time, his lectures are boring and hard to follow. his notes on the overhead are barely legible. he goes off topic and cracks stupid jokes a lot. BUT, hes lienient on grading. he makes mistakes on exams, offers a lot of extra credit, and he tries to do what he can to help you pass.

He really cares about doing a good job. The only problem is that he doesn't realized that the classroom is for teaching. You cant read his writing and he very rarely reaches the point that he is aiming for. If you don't know much a bout physics and care to do well, try taking another class.

I didn't learn much but he was very nice on letting you hand in papers late. Even if you didn't do something right he would let you do the Homework over. He is a little unorganized. But overall is a nice person.

Kuck is a great man. He really cares about his class & even offers extra time during the day 2 meet students & help them. Book is sorta hard, but this is NOT his fault. If u do hw & prep short answer q's for the test u will do fine. He is very understanding about late work & gears class 4 teachers!

This class is really difficult. The only way to survive is to have the experiments and essay questions from past students. You can pass the class by failing all the tests just do homework, extra credit, and do good in lab.

He gives many opportunities to earn points. HW is online. Late HW worth 1/2 credit. Has extra credit opportunties. Easy (25) 2 point quizzes. Very flexible. Extends deadlines when majortiy rules. Really wants us to learn.

Dr.Kuck is a great man. However, the class is organized too intensive and challenge. Too much materials need to be covered with limited of time. Do well on the HW, labs, take-home experiments, and extra credit to help you boost up your grade. Glad to help when you visit him during the lunch time at Tomassino and ask any questions you may have.

PHSC 112 is a difficult class all by itself.Dr. Kuck does assign a lot of work, but he does it so you can average your grade.It is better than to have only three tests count for your grade.He does his best to help and is always asking for suggestions on how to make the class better.He IS hard, but who said earning a college degree should be easy?

He is the hardest prof i have had in my 4 year at csulb. this is a 100 level class. he makes it sooo hard, and is always talking off topic during class. wyou sooo much hw. you never have notes and he gives a quiz daily. do not take!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS TEACHER IS ONE OF THE WORSE TEACHERS I HAVE EVER HAD. HE DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING AND COVERS 1 1/2 CHAPTERS IN ONE CLASS SESSION. UNLESS YOU ARE VERY INTERESTED IN PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS.

He really trys to help us learn by using a lot of demonstrations during class. Homework is online and can be done as many times to get 100% on it. Daily class quizzes (only 1 or 2 questions each worth 2 points). Is avaliable during office hours to help question. i enjoyed this class even though it was a challenge...but physics is hard anyway.

This is a hard class, BUT Kuck does try to help you pass, I took it over the summer, you can pretty much fail all the tests, just do the extra credit and find a friend so you can split the work! its the best way to do it!

I can't believe that a 100 level class had soooo much work required. There were seven of us friends who took the class together, and in the end there was only me and one other who stayed in the class. Make sure you do your home work online and the lab is a must!

i really tried in the beg. but there was just so much to do here and there. ive never hated a class so much. i had no idea what was going on, he hops around like a stinken rabbit. like a hipitty helpful confusing telling rabbit. sweet man. do all the work, stay on task. but really he is a nice guy.

I hated this freakin' class!! I took it in spring and failed it big time! Then I had to retake it again in summer!! I went to class everyday and was always confused! Too much work and too much reading!!!! AHHHHHHH!

He is so knowledgable about physics that he does not understand when or why people are not getting the information. There is way to much work involved in this class for it being a 100 level course. Online homework is helpful, but home experiements take up too much time away form studying and online hw.

My attendance in this class was very consistant and I did not understand a damn thing. The material and work expected is rediculous for a 100 level course. I will give the man credit that he knows his physics, but he does a horrid job actually trying to teach it. Best advice I can give you: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!

Does demonstrations in class and doesn't lecture on what will be on the test when he does lecture. Makes a lot of mistakes and is a bad teacher. You spend more time trying to figure out homework that he never explains how to do. Test are relly hard and he doesnt cure. I was only 5 points away from a higher grade at the end and he didn't gito me.

NOT AS HARD AS EVERYONE SAYS... He curves, I should have had a C, got an A.. work REASONABLE as long as you READ and work with a friend.. he let's you make stuff up if you fail!!! Nice guy, good teacher, those writing bad things were probably the ones talking in class or not paying attention b/c MY FRIENDS AND I ALL RECEIVED A's!!!!

Even though I failed his first two exams, I still walked out of the class with a B. Lots of chances for extra credit. If you work with other people, it would be much easier on u. Willing to work with u as long as you work with him. His curve helps a lot!!

I think this is just a class where there's only so much that a teacher can do in three hours a week. People that didn't do well either didn't put enough time in, or they just don't have the mind for this type of material. It's that simple. Not Kuck's fault.

Material is difficult. Need strong math skills, Alg & Trig. Kuck taught Physics but I think most struggled with the Math & blamed Kuck. If students would've spent less time complaining about the difficulty of the material, did the HW & read the text, They would've done better. Kuck was always available during office hours, but most used it to wine.

Tough class and he really tries to make it understandable - not always successfully. He provides lots of tools (homework) and study aids. Greatest strengths are enthusiasm and sincerity. Biggest weakness is inability to explain clearly (somewhat because the class is so large and lecture time is so short).

A hard class indeed but I am living proof you can get an A without any familiarity with calc or trig. I was lost when was writing long equations on the board, but the home experiments, online homework, lab and extra credit saved me. Get to know your classmates because you will need them. He gives great physical demonstrations of things.

He's really eager to try and teach you what you need,and he bases it on real life.He'll take time out of his day to meet with you if you want further info.The class is concept,not math based.You do need to put in a lot of work, but what do you expect in college. this is a huge class, and he is very old. Class is boring but he tries so hard to make it fun. He tries to help but class is just too big. Materials are strangely difficult, and take home experiment assiganments can be cumbersome.

This class does require you to do work-obviously...the home experiments are easy-you just have to make time to do them. Go to all class meetings-to get points on the quizzes and get notes. Sometimes lectures aren't so clear-but that's when you need to read the book! This isn't a piece of cake class-it's college-you actually have to do some work!

He is a hard professor but I have to admit that I learned a lot!!! As a future educator it is stuff that I know that I am going to apply in my own classroom. Physics is not easy to begin with... it was too fast paced for my liking but he is very understanding and willing to help you understand as long as you reach out...

There are many assignments for this class but you can finish them as long as you spend time for them. Take-home experiences are easy. He answers all your questions and emails very fast.

Although he may not be the best lecturer (has a tendency to read straight from the book), he's willing to do anything to help you learn (extra credit, test corrections, extra study sessions, etc.) I waited a year to take PHYS 100B because I wanted to take it with him. He really, REALLY tries to help everyone pass.

Ridiculous. He is horrible at explaining the information. Although, the lecture might start off right eventually his tangents take over and your hearing another storty. He seems like a really nice, funny guy but he just in't cut out for teaching this class. The material is tough being and he doesn't make it any easy to undersisnt

Good teacher really nice and laid back. Most of the test information is covered in the HW, so if you study that before the exams you will do well. I was Happy I got him for a class i wasn't looking forward to at all.

the class is ok. The test are 50% of hwk, which you do the hwk on beachboard as many times. However, if you don't like science the class may be kind of hard. Do all your hwk and take home experiments and you'll do fine. He is willing to help YOU!!! So seek for his help if you need it.

Dr. Kuck is a fair teacher and the class was pretty interesting with a lot of experiments. He grades fairly and has a lot of extra credit opportunities (do them all to make sure you get an A). Tests can be difficult, but homework is easy. If you study a lot and work hard, an A is very possible.

Just do the homework over & over until you get the full points, get a good grade in lab, and study. He's an okay old man, but I think he needs to retire! If you can... try another teacher, if you're stuck with him.. GOOD LUCK!

homework is easy since you can take it over and over. test are hard make sure to study. do extra credit. labs are easy but lab instructor Kim cannot calculate grades correctly and will not change your grade even if he made the mistake. Very boring class, try to get another teacher!!!

Definately the hardest class I have ever taken. His lectures doesn't help with the tests or homework. The homework can be done over again, which is the only good thing about his class. His tests are impossible. Make sure you do all the homework & do well in your lab, and there's extra credit, but even with all that, you'll be praying you pass.

Professor Kuck tries to help you out in his lectures but he is very vague and a lot of the test questions are things you need to figure out on your own because the book is pure crap. The great thing is that homework is worth a lot more than tests and homework is easy. Also lab is very easy and do all the extra credit he offers

this guy is the worst teacher i've ever had. he quizzes you everyday, extremely vague, notes don't help you at all, and he expects you to know stuff you weren't assigned to read yet. the only class i've ever dropped in my entire life was this one. the book does a poor job of explaining things as well. extracredit andredos are your only opportunity.

Dr. Kuck is a wonderful person and great teacher. He is on your side as a student, accessible and committed in his efforts. He challenges us to think critically by expecting us to take subject concepts and apply them to real world circumstances. He is fair and truly cares that you get a good understanding and not just a right answer for a grade.

I have no idea what the other students were talking about. Excellent teacher who gives a huge curve at the end so the majority of the class will get a passing grade. A 16% curve this last semester. If you can't pass it with that then you should work at burger king. Take good notes, listen to his lectures and do the homework(easy) and you will pass

I say attendance is mandatory because there's a quiz every day. He is SO vague. He doesn't give any math examples and just expects you to know how to do every thing on the homework. The lectures are useless because he doesn't explain everything. The book is completely useless.

Hes a great teacher, he is a very visual perosn who has something to show every class time. Although he goes through the lecture very quickly he is always available to contact if you need help.

Professor really cares about the students and wants everyone to pass. It is a difficult subject, but with his in class demonstrations, clears concepts up a little bit. If you don't understand something in lecture, you have to stop him, or else he will move really fast.

He does not know how to explain concepts. When he goes over a problem in class, he just tells us what is written on the paper, he does not bother to explain WHY. He is not a good teaher. However I will still recommend him. He cares about his students. He wants you to pass and will work with you. Even if you do bad on the exams but still do the online homework, the take home labs, the extra credit, and pass the lab course you will pass his class with at least a B.

I was alarmed by the grades I received on all three of his exams. I seriously thought I was going to fail, BUT I ended up getting a B! If you try hard, visit his office hours, get perfect scores on the online quizzes, attend class to get points for the daily quizzes, you'll be fine! =)

His exams are long & difficult. He's a good person and a bad teacher. The class is too large to be taught this material. I learned more in the lab taught by a student. But there's so much more he wants to cover. It's ridiculous. Get the book because you'll NEED it.

His class is pretty easy. You have to know your material. Lots of BB hw and lots of extra credit. Not helpful, you might need a partner to do take-home experiments. Simple A or B grade.

Prof. Kuck is a very nice teacher. He does everything in his power to try and help you succeed. He posts his lectures and has neat demos. he offers extra credit, redos, and office, lunch, or online meetings and support. The material is difficult, but if you try and do the work I don't see how you can't pass.

He's a really sweet man and tries really hard make sure his students understand the material. He gives you the option to go to extra fri sessions that give extra help. He gives a lot of extra credit in the class. However, the physics department SUCKS. The tests are ridiculous. If you wanna pass, get a tutor, do ex.credit & hw, and STUDY.

He's a really sweet person, but he is a horrible teacher. No matter how hard I tried, I could not focus in the class. I absolutely HAD to read the book to understand the material. His lectures went too fast and he does not explain anything well at all. There is lots of homework in his class, but you can retake it until you get a perfect score.

A nice man and wants his student to do well. Students say he's a bad professor but he is not. There is only so much he can teach in such a short time. Physics is just hard! Probably wonderful grandfather, terrible professor. Class of 180 recieved 47% average on an exam. Yet, it was all our fault for "not studying". Terrible class. Take another class that covers the GE or take another professor because Kuck is uhhhh is uhhhh well its uhhhh AWFUL!

This is the WORST professor I have ever encountered. Avoid him at all costs because you learn nothing in his class. I managed to get an A because his tests are just made up of the multiple choice questions in the book. If you do get stuck with him (you poor unfortunate person), just study the MC qs because you won't get anything out of his lectures

Worst teacher I've ever had! Hardly anyone knew what he was talking about. The class avg on every test was an F. We had to retake 3 of the 4 tests with not much success the 2nd time.The book was extremely unhelpful. He didn't know how to make things clear.He posted that after his curve we came away with Bs and changed it to Cs last minute. HORRIBLE

THE worst entry-level Physics professor. Great man, but a horrible professor. He just reads off the powerpoint. This class goes through chapters way too quickly. This class takes up ALL YOUR TIME. Expect to stay home during the weekends doing your 12-14 homework questions per chapter! Quizzes every class session.

Basically your grade in this class is weighed heavily on the lab score, homework, and the final. If you do well in just the lab and hw (like me) then you'll be fine. Dr. Kuck loves to teach but unfortunately is not too good at preparing you for the tests. Do the hw, do well in lab, and take advantage of the extra credit (LOTS OF IT).

Dr. Kuck is a nice man, but unfortunately he is just unable to teach the material effectively, if at all. Most of the learning done in this class will be through the homework which is online, so doing it is VERY important. The only thing good about him is that he sets the curve so majority of the class passes.

Professor Kuck to be honest does not teach the class well at all. He spends 20 mins trying to get class set up. He has even done the same class 2 times in a row! Lectures do not help on the hw or on the test. Even when you read the text book it is still extremely confusing. If you want to learn dont take this class. If you want to pass take it.

Dr. Kuck is a really nice guy and he really wants his students to do well; however, the whole structure of the class is impractical and the textbook written by the department chair is horrible. The mathematics behind the concepts are not stressed or practiced so it's very difficult to do calculations on tests. Still, Dr. Kuck tries to help us out.

Dr. Kuck is probably the most thoughtful and caring professors at CSULB. The book isn't that great and the material is a little abstract, but Dr. Kuck really does want his students to not only pass, but truly understand the basic physical principles. The guy loves to teach and really cares about his students. He is also fun to talk politics with.

I took Dr Kuck for the lab only as previous classmates had warned me not to take him for the lecture. If you want a great PHSC112 lecture teacher, take Prof Geier! Dr Kuck is a nice guy and he is smart but I do not think he is a great teacher. He is quite boring, not funny, and he doesn't simplify the material enough for non science majors.

Dr.Kuck is a sweet guy truly one of a kind.he cares about trading the concept rather than all the technical stuff,a lot of work and need to read the book which was written stupidly but his lectures clears things up. He is easy to talk to and he does help you out, yet his grading gets confusing.you do need to work for your grade!

ttthis class has so much work! homework and quizzes every week. class is mandatory only for clickers. he does offer a lot of extra credit. nice guy who wants you to understand the concepts of physics. this class is not easy but he lets you work together on the tests and projects. overall, too much work for a lower division class.

Helpful lectures? Teaching? Nope. This is a teach yourself class. You are on your own, so make friends right away. This guy's take home experiments are incomprehensible and take forever to do. So much homework and a quiz every class. Expects way too much out of entry level students and too confusing. This class will dominate your semester.

It's best to think of Dr. Kuck as a cool grandpa. If your parents or guardians ever asked you to finish a chore or task that you did want to complete, perhaps you had an elder who helped you along the way. Similarly, Physics is not for everyone but there's a reason why people have to take this class. Dr. Kuck tries his best to help each student.

Class requires students to read&study. Home experiments have directions & videos online. Students complaining probably didn't show up or were talking during lecture! Clicker quizzes are freebie points. My one gripe was quizzes sometimes didn't have correct answers. He has a good heart & wants students to pass as long as they try-ended up w/ an A!

Constructive suggestions: reduce the amount of online quizzes/hw. Multiple choice tests are not an indication of true understanding. Update the powerpoint handouts so they match your lectures. Offer a better textbook.Cut the home experiments required in half. HExp need clearer instuctions and better worksheets with blanks for uncertainties.

He is a very nice teacher. I liked his HOMEWORK eventhough it took hours to find the answers however, once I did them it really help during the exam and that was good. The Home Experiments were okay but perfer not to have any at all. His ICLICKERS were easy points and they were on homework or test so its best you pay attention.

Dr. Kuck is a teacher who truly cares about his students. There is ALOT of homework in this class. This class pretty much dominated my semester, and taking 17 units was really rough taking this class in that mix. I ended up with a B, exams are really hard and lots of essay questions with them too but Kuck really cares and is willing to help you!

Although Kuck is a very nice guy and professor, and although class was really cool and interesting..for a level 100 class and GE course, there is absolutely WAY TOO MUCH to keep up on. You look at grades on Beachboard and it is this huge list of everything we had to do. Took up way too much of my time, unfortunately.

This class is way too much work for being lower division! It is very hard to keep up with, but Dr. Kuck does really care about his students and wants them to do well. He teaches as though physics is very easy, & that it will come very easily to students. Very frustrating class.

If you're not a "science person" you will prob have a very tough time. Prof. Kuck is a great man & he really wants you to pass. He will help you out but it was way more than I anticipated. I recommend getting another book, like a basic physics book. The class text is not much help at all.

I LOVED KUCK!He is an awesome professsor!Yea he went really fast and didn't do practice problems, but he gave SO much extra credit and curved on top of that! Social homework was easy got a lot of extra credit doing that. Hmwk helps grade, lab helps grade, quizzes and all other extra credit he provides helps. Put A LITTLE BIT OF EFFORT and you can easily get an A!

If you can avoid it, do NOT take his class or any of the classes that use his curriculum. It's absolutely incomprehensible and the level of work you have for a 100 level class is insane. I basically had to teach myself all semester and it's gotten hard at the end. The textbook is also by far the worst I have ever had the misfortune of buying.
