Thinks he is god's gift to GVSU. He isn't.
he's a good prof, you just need to go to class. He's a good guy.
Knows his stuff. Teachers stuff that makes you think
the best there is, the best there ever was, the best there ever will be
I think he is a communist.
Lundskow does a great job of making old classical theorists easy to understand.
Challenges you, makes you think, not a bad guy - go to his office hours for help
lousy and confused
Class is boring, he makes you guess what he wants and grades hard
amazingly good. I look forward to every class.
narrow minded. Unclear, vague asignments. AVOID HIM
He is the center of existence. I wish everyone could be like him.
I enjoyed both classes I had with him. Hes a great prof that really cares
Amazing. He should be cloned and passed out as the gift that he is to GVSU.
Makes you work for your grade - challenges you to think on a new level.
engaging, smart, and sexy.
He really makes you makes you think about things differently. He encourages you
Great asset to GVSu sociology department
He's the worst prof I've ever had. Do your best to avoid him!
Enjoyed his classes, you have to go to his office and visit him.
great guy. classes were very interesting.Funny sense of humor
This course could also be called "the world according to George". off the wall!
If you're not interested, you're an idiot. He's the absolute best.

Read. I learned a lot. Hard work but it paid off.

poor grading, not nice, unclear on what he wants from students
fair grader, you learn ALOT, books were boring, overall good class
No guidlines on paper, grades hard. Be creative or get diff Prof.
funny, interesting, and a great guy
thought it would be harder than it was, just be creative.
nice guy. unique sense of humor. challenges you to think and work for grade.
Great! Goes above and beyond. Makes you think. Take him!
not a good teacher, unfair grader, not nice, BAD TEACHER!!!
Great Prof
never understood the purpose of the class, no clarity on direction of class
Great Prof, He is fair if you try hard

prof lundskow is a rad dude. everyone should have to take his classes.
Course lacks direction. Smug. Not a funny guy except for laughing at him. Believes that the info. flow should go only one way (from him to you).
He doesn't use a textbook which makes the class more interesting. That also gives an incentive to attend lectures because it is there that he will explain the importance of the book the class is reading and ties it into the topic. Liked paper approaches.
This is the prof you heard the teachers talk about in high school? The one hat they made you write all thoes papers for... this is him. He wants it his way or don't bother. Unless you are prepared to defend your work to the teeth don't try to stray
Not bad for a 6 week course. He made it interesting and kept my attention!
Very boring classes. no point to even go. read book and do papers, you will be fine
This Professor is GOLD JERRY, GOLD!!!
He's a tough one. By the end of the semester we had maybe a dozen students attending the class, none of which yet had a clue what he was looking for out of our papers. You have four books to read (he's anti-textbook) and then four papers to write.
THIS GUY IS A COMPLETE ASS, STAY AWAY.not only class but when i needed help about a class transfering i was told to talk to him and he was so rude i ended up hanging up on him, after a month of long rambling emails he still hasnt answered my question.
rambles on and on during lectures, then expects you to have taken notes on his digressions for the final. he's anti-textbook if you're into that kinda thing. doesn't care about students very much, loves to hear himself talk. BAD!!!
Took for Soc Theory. Interesting class. Made me want to learn more and study hard. He greatly helped me to improve my writing and thought. Dry sense of humor which I loved. I think he's underappreciated on this board.
Go to his office hours in need of help and he will greatly assist you. Very nice guy!!
By far-one of the best profs Ive encountered-He knows his stuff, has a great sense of humor and amazingly intelligent.Take this class.you wont regret it
very comprehensive. learned a lot.awesome prof.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! Grades you based on what he things and wants. Spends time trying to make himself look intelligent. Unclear and unhelpful. Doesn't cover the books in class! TERRIBLE!
He is very smart with the subject but he really tries to make you feel stupid. you need to read 4 books and write a paper on each. the way he wants things sucks. he really doesnt care about how people are doing as long as he can run his mouth in class. DONT TAKE HIM!! HE SHOULD BE FIRED!!
Read 4 books, write papers on 3 and take final-thats your grade. Grades are based on his perception. Wants you to write argumentative papers but only wants to you to agree with the authors. Lectures were interesting & he is intelligent but remember he is ALWAYS right. AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I LOVE GEORGE LUNDSKOW. Seriously. At first he irritated me like no other, but once you get used to him he's awesome. Some things are unclear, but he will push you to move beyond your perceptions and abilities. He comes off as rude, but if you calm down enough to chat with him, you'll love him too
Horrible class, even when you do ask for help you get nothing. Grades according to his opinion, will not accept any other opinions but his own. I will never take this professor again... you will not learn anything about social psychology, only about unfair grading.
The only reason people don't like Lundskow is because he makes you work. OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE YOU AT A UNIVERSITY TO DO!! Seriously if you whine and moan about having to read, you obviously don't want to learn and you have no place in higher education. Take him, you might learn something.
His teaching style is based off his own perception, and as a sociologist this reflects poorly on himself. He presented an article that clearly reflects his own bias on the subject. An overall poor sociogist...His grading is also based off his own perception of what he thinks is fact...
If you enjoy feeling like an idiot you have to take this class. Not only does he talk down to everyone in all of his lectures and show of his extensive vocabulary but his grading style is terrible.
this prof is the worst i've ever had. he doesn't tell how you're graded, you get a letter and that's it. he's a smart guy, but he doesn't have the capacity to teach. i wanted to take this class, now i wish i'd have set myself on fire instead, at least that wouldn't take 16 weeks to kill me!
TAKE NOTES!! they are very important for the final! the class sucked and i honeslty didn't learn much, it was very hard to follow. It was hard to know what he wanted in a paper. all i can say is i got the grade i needed in the class and i didn't really get anything out of the acutal class.
The notes and attendance are vital for the final. I felt his grading to be a bit harsh, but appreciated his extensive feedback. I found communicating with him a bit awkward, which was frustrating when I was looking for help. He's extremely informed and educated, which adds a lot of depth to the lectures. Challenging class!
He could very well be the worst professor I ever had. He grades based on his personal opinions not on how logical your argument is. He is very disorganized and always showed up late for class. He talks down to students and repeats himself CONSTANTLY which is annoying. The only good thing he does is not take attendance. DON'T TAKE HIM!
Oh I enjoyed the work. It was the man. I actually looked forward to the class the first week or so until he did two things. Held us late everyday to ramble when some of us have class and busses to catch. And I went to his office for help and he was not only unhelpful but so condesending he almost put me to tears. He grades on his personal opinions
Made the mistake of not reading these comments before spending 11 hours on first paper for class. Ended up with a C. Told me my opinion/suggestion was "impossible". Very close minded. Not clear at all on what he's looking for on papers. If you don't agree with him you're screwed. (Spent 3 hours working on the paper that's due tonight! lol)
lets be frank, i dont know how i got into college, but this guy is an easy A just read your material and nod your head...and try to grind through the 50 min...take hiim if you need a lib 100 teacher...aslo you watch like 4 movies the whole semester.
the class was usually boring as hell. had some interesting discussions, and lundskow found a way to be humorous sometimes. watched 4 movies. exams seemed incredibly difficult, all short answer and essay, but if you **** enough on the essays you can bring your grade up. read everything and takes notes whenever he lectures and you'll get an A.

Boring class and he did little to make it engaging. There was one paper per book and then a final exam (that was also writing but based on his lectures). There was little point in going to his class lectures. If you take this class with him, I recommend taking it pass/fail and just not going to class, that's what I did and I did fine.
If you don't agree with Lundskow, you're screwed. I've never gotten anything but an A on a paper:he gave me D. His ignorance can be aptly summed up with a couple of his comments on my paper: "There is no such thing as human nature" and "species evolve, not individuals." he's ignorant of& rejects anything biological;dogmatic about his 1950's views.
he is a hard prof. it's my 2nd time with him. he's wordy, requires TONS of quotes/references. i hate his methods of teaching. it's papers on books + an essay final. helpful only if YOU seek it. he needs to be able to relate to you about something, then you'll get a better grade.
He is so brilliant! He is a great lecturer and will explain things if you don't understand. He seems to go off topic, but if you wait for it he brings home the point by the end of class and you realize what he was saying was a huge argument leading up to it. You will learn a ton if you apply youself. George is a great guy. Stay past the 1st day!
I was really looking forward to this class and found that by the second week I couldn't wait for it to end! Professor Lundskow rambles aimlessly, assigns a ton of written work with little direction or clarity and then has a totally subjective grading process.
Helpfulness: he'll bend over backward to help you with assignments, but he can be hard to find during office hours. Easiness/Clarity: the assignments aren't horrific, but his clarity is. If he had great points for each lecture, I could never follow the lecture long enough to find out. Lecture outlines would have helped. Overall, not recommended.
He's a great guy, but i don't like his liberal french values, and he has a heavy french accent even though his name makes it seem like he would be from germany.
He's an alright professor once you get past that atrocious French accent. Not even Parisian, but Alsacian. Ugh. Nice guy, otherwise.

Nice prof with a good sense of humor. It was a challenging class, but that's what college is about. May have been a bit harsh with grading at times, but he knows what he's talking about. He encourages his students to think critically and go beyond the scope of the books we read. Never has he criticized students' opinions as other raters say.
He likes to play on here by rating himself. He speaks very clear english- no accent. Grade is based on a written final and on 4 papers you write on the 4 required books. Paper topics are not given you must come up with your own and show crticial thinking to get a good grade. Most of class gets a B or B- on the papers.

Had him for 360 and 400 in the same semester. Alot of reading but well worth it. I learned more in these two classes than any other this semester. Requires diligence and active thinking.
Nice guy. Class was kind of hard, but if you do the reading and pay attention you should have no problem. Grade is based on papers we write on the book, so READ!
Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, it is blatantly false to say that he does not attack peoples opinions (with ad hominems and straw men) when he disagrees. If you want to find out: just disagree on something of importance to him.
Whatever you do, don't sit in the front row; one of these days his lips are going to jump right off his face!
To be honest, Lundskow hates me and my "biotheories." That is okay, I fit in better in biology, where darwinian theory is the paradigm used to explain social behavior. However, for soc. students, I can say his lectures are clear and well-done and he is a very challenging grader. You must do your reading. Don't slack off in this course.
His lectures are very long and they dont really relate to the books. He is willing to help students with their papers, with that said, he grades VERY hard. I worked on my papers for a long time and got B's and B-'s.
He is not very clear on what he wants on his papers.
The man knows his stuff! Class is very difficult and taught more at a graduate level than what should be expected from an undergraduate class. Information is useful but limited. Somewhat arrogant, but not as much as Phillips. Work hard, read often, attend regularly and you can pull a B.
I cannot say it enough: awful! It was an unbearable 6-week summer night class. He's monotone, gets off track, & showed tasteless heavy metal movies. Papers are vague & excessive. Worst of all, his class is all about control over the students. I got an A, but turned in 75% of my grade on the last day & had no clue what my grade would be. Run away!
Quality Prof, very interesting. I liked him a lot.
Worst prof I've had at Grand Valley. Before I took his class I saw bad comments on here but I ignored them, please don't! I'm an A student and this man gave me low Bs on EVERYTHING I turned in to him and killed my GPA. Not clear on what he wants. Dont' take!!!
You get to watch a lot of movies but VERY HARD GRADER. You get a rewrite for one of the two papers but you will probably need it. Dry lectures.
Do not take this class. He told the class that he deliberately grades the papers as hard as he possibly can, which makes up 40% of your grade. He does not curve, and the majority of the class failed the first paper and got a C or under on the second paper. He told me my oral presentation was perfect and I got an A- instead of an A. Take Ott instead!
Ridiculously smart quirky academic dude, I took another class with him just to listen and observe. I imagine A's don't come easy tho.
Lundskow is one of the best professors I have ever had! His lectures are interesting and the guy knows a lot about a lot. He grades papers really hard but you do get one rewrite. very interesting and very informative. I learned a ton.
One of the worst profs that I have had. He is so BOARING!!! When he actually teaches all the rest of the time he shows movies that are boaring or irrelevent it seems. He is an impossible grader as well 2 papers 40 percent of your grade and you just cant get over a B on them period. No one does. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
He is one of the worst professors I've had at Grand Valley; he is a prime example of someone using their institutionalized power to make sure that students do not succeed. He does not create a comfortable learning environment and there have been plenty of times where it seems as if he is doesn't know what point he is trying to make in lecture.
I loved his class. Lundskow seems like a genius, and I love sparing with him this semester. He knows his sociology, his fiction, and his music. Loved taking his class.
Making the class watch videos and rambling on about cars and cell phones does not count as teaching. Hated this class, hate this guy.
Students are not mind readers: if a professor is going to tear papers apart as if they were at the graduate level, then instructions with specific expectations are necessary. Further, if expecting a high caliber of student work, then trailing off during lectures is unacceptable. Also, wordy drivel is not appropriate for exam instructions...
Makes you write 3 papers based on the three books, but you are allowed to re-write one of the first two papers and turn it in at the final exam. Watch a few movies but it helps to better understnd the subject matter. He gives you a review sheet for the final exam and uses some of the questions on the exam. Pay attention to the class discussions.
Was confusing during lecture and didn't give much of a holistic view of social psychology. Trailed off a lot, didn't give clear expectations and was somewhat rude when evaluating essays. Topics and movies he showed were somewhat interesting, but I didn't learn much. Didn't communicate well either.
I was not impressed at all. He seemed really arrogant and was a very tough grader on papers. I didn't feel like I learned much at all. If you don't agree with him, he will not like you. Don't take this class if at all possible.
This class could've been really interesting, but the mixture of off topic monotone lectures and the ridiculous grading scale made it horrid. 60% of the class grade was papers, which he graded outrageously and unfairly. Save time and tuition...take another class!
If you do not agree with his opinion, you clearly do not understand the material, regardless of if you have a solid argument for the other side. He was rude, and would purposely pick students who would be uncomfortable with a new idea and put them on the spot. Exams and quizzes are very easy, and papers are very hard and he grades papers hard.
Terrible prof! I felt like I learned virtually nothing about sociology. He would go on long off topic tangents that had nothing to do with the material. He only liked to talk about what he was interested in. However, class was blowoff and an easy pass as long as you studied in detail topics discussed in class.
I have my own opinions but I am open to learning other peoples' opinions. Lundskow does not accept anyone's views but his own. His papers are impossible and you basically have to pick up brain waves from him to understand what he wants. He useless when it comes to help. Do not take if possible.
He knows a lot about his subject. He goes off on small semi-off topic things but are still interesting. Grade is based on exams and 5 papers. he gives you a study guide with direct quetions from exam to get an easy A. papers are responce papers to articles he assigns. Overall not a bad guy and a pretty easy class.
He knows his stuff and is extremely smart. The lectures are fun and interesting. He gives two exams which are very easy. He grades extremely hard on papers.. It's very hard to be given a 100 on a paper written for his class.
I went into this class expecting it to be hard, but the Prof did a great job deeply explaining everything. There were group papers for every section, but if you get a good group those are not difficult.
Professor Lundskow is super super boring. You have to read 2 articles and 2 SUPER short books and write 200 max. word essays. There is a midterm and a final which he gives a study guide and takes the exact questions for the exams. Hes super boring but easy.
Pretty funny guy. We watched a lot of movies. Go to class, he takes attendance and gives extra points when there's not a lot of people. 2 exams. Papers in response to articles that he does grade semi-toughly. Especially since he has a 325 word max, you can't include everything. Overall, fairly easy, but kind of boring.
Only has the midterm and the final. No other exams than those. He assigns three reading assignments for homework and a 350 max word essay is due with those. Very confusing as to what he wants you to write about. Extremely broad and a tough grader.
He is an amazing professor! I love his class because it is so interesting. If you plan on taking Sociology, take it with him.
He isn't the worst professor. There are only two exams and no book so his presentations are kind of all over, its a pretty easy class but he grades things kind of tough. Everything is a baseline B unless you prove to be better or worse. The writings aren't difficult just broad. My problem is he goes over on time and i have to rush to my next class.
Really smart guy. However, very unclear and tough on grading essays. His exam questions aren't very straight forward, but are open note. Wouldn't really take him again, and he holds you after class atleast 3 minutes every class period.
I really enjoyed this course. Lundskow is very intelligent and gives very interesting lectures. He can be tough on grading papers, but I still found it to be fair. Also did some movie days, gives random extra credit, and allows open notes on tests.
Prof Lundskow made this class bearable. GO TO CLASS. Take notes on everything he says, even on films! So much of the exam questions are from stuff he's said as his powerpoints are just outlines. He lets you know why you got the grade you did on your papers and is very lenient in due dates. He's funny & knows his stuff. I'd take him again for sure.
Professor Lundskow is very smart and knows what he is talking about. His lectures are long, but informative. However, the grading for his class is difficult. All of the exams throughout the semester are online, but they are hard and you cannot find the information. The essays assigned in this class are graded harshly and make up a lot of your grade
Love the professor, but 75% of the final grade depended on exams and only 25% on essays. I did good on the essays, but the exams were hard to get an A on even though they were open noted and it's a 100 level class. I wish the exams & essays were weighted differently or had another component/category to it because the outcome of grades would differ.
Loved his sense of humor. I think many misunderstand when he's joking. Interesting classes. Learn things that stay with you after graduation.
Lundskow is awesome! I took him for both SOC 360 & 495. His intellect and passion shines through during lectures, his critical questions stretch thinking, and most importantly hes a genuine prof that emits compassion for his students. If you ever have the opportunity to take a class with him, you will not regret it!!
His lectures are so interesting, he does an amazing job connecting what we learn with what is happening today politically and in pop culture. He is very understanding and gives a lot of second chances on papers. If you go to class the exams are literally so easy and the only assignments are a 2-3 page reflection like once or twice every month.
I had him for SOC 105 and would not recommend. This was his first semester teaching this class and did not have enough material to teach resulting in making the students teach the second half of semester. His gradings on response papers never made sense. They would be out of 100 and take 20 points off because you didnt say something "funny."
i personally wasnt super interested in his lectures, however he does a great job connecting things to society today. i loved this class, and i thought the group projects allowed for involvement in the class and being able to learn from students too. he is very knowledgable and an all around really funny guy. id extremely recommend this class
Lundskow was a kind soul who was super passionate about his teaching. While his lectures weren't the most interesting, there was a lot of group work and student presentations that made the class more interactive, and therefore more interesting. Overall, a pretty chill class environment and would recommend.
I took Social Problems as a gen ed requirement and disliked this course overall from day one. I found his lectures boring and hard to get through. He also has mandatory attendance and will dock your grade if you miss class. I recommend not to take this course or to drop it!
Hes funny and very knowledgeable and understanding. We do have a big group project we show at the end of the year and it sucks because some of the grading is on class participation which we have no control over and no one participates
He is a nice proffesor. But I found the lectures to be very boring and felt like they took forever.
His lectures are kind of monotoned but he is interested in SOC105 topics. The class has a group presentation that you teach the class a social problem of your choice where he asks a lot of questions. Tests are online and easy. Only one final essay paper and it's about the other group presentations you watched. Easy grader for the most part.
While Professor Lundskow's lectures can be dry, the class has an engaging group presentation component where you teach your own social problem topic. Tests are manageable and unstuck AI was a lifesaver for studying.
Decently easy class, nice prof, large group project at the end of the course.
I see people on here are saying that the lectures are boring, but they aren't that bad, some of them are really interesting! And if I was getting bored I would play solitaire. There is no homework, except for a group presentation the second half of the semester. All tests were online, and really easy. I would definitely take this class again.
Professor Lundskow is one of my favorite professors! I really do believe that when people say his lectures are boring and his class in not stimulating, are lying. I found him to be fairly passionate about social issues and is very intellectual when speaking on them. You're allowed to miss twice until it affects your grade, which is super achievable
Going into this class I did not know what to expect but ultimately it was one of my favorite SOC classes. Prof Lundskow knows how to facilitate discussion and ask probing questions... something a lot of professors lack. His discussion questions really added to the class and made it an engaging environment. I wish I could take this class again!
In this class, everyone had to be the professor for two days and pretty much give a 75 min lecture on something they thought was important and interesting. Although it was extremely nerve racking, the prof is so nice and caring so I can't complain about much
He was great. The class itself was boring and lecture heavy but the tests and the group project were not bad. Tests are open note and we had a full week to take them. He is a nice guy and gave prizes to students who succeeded. Easy class.
He was extremely kind! Before an exam he would host kahoots and would give very generous prizes. He is very funny and I wish students participated more but overall a nice dude and the exams are all online and we have a group project as well. Pretty easy to get an A!
