Dr. Meindl is an inspirational man. He is young and is easily approachable and relatable to students. He is more than willing to help any student with the content but is also very clear in lecture and it's pretty basic material. The discussions are interesting as are the guest lectures. Very informative and fun class.
One of the best professors I've ever had, he really cares about the issues he teaches and he explains everything clearly and simply. If you have a chance to take a class with this guy, I recommend it highly
Professor Meindl is so passionate about the subject. He really cares about students, and wants this class to change their perspective about human consumption and the source of our resources. Be prepared to go outside. Assignments include two exams, a semi-cumulative final, a group research project, and a lot of busy work that is due in discussion.
Dr. Meindl is proably one of the best professors I've had so far. Definitely would recommend taking his class; he is extremely passionate about the subject and knows his stuff.
I really loved Meindl and his class. He was new to teaching here this semester, but he seemed to know his students. His lectures were interesting and engaging. Not very much homework and only 3 tests. 1 large group project but you have all semester. I enjoyed the readings and liked that we went into the nature preserve for a couple of discussions.
Meindl is a great professor and has a lot of interesting knowledge that sustains sometimes tedious lectures. The class is no joke and is based not on participation/attendance but willingness to memorize a lot of material. He is a scientist and runs his class like a bio professor would so that means memorize those definitions! And don't forget that.
The class has a lot of homework but is worth very little making it hard to do well. Two exams a final and a group research paper. He's a good guy but new to teaching so sometimes he says things in class contrary to the exam. Beware the true or false section on the exam.
Great professor. Dont even bother buying the textbook if you have him. His tests come STRAIGHT from the lectures. Literally remember the lectures word for word and you'll do great. Many people say tests are really tough because his questions are very specific. Just study those slides! Homework assigned every week for discussion, but its very easy.
Amazing professor, lectures are great and really interesting. Dr. Meindl is really passionate about the subject- really enjoyable class!
The lecture is interesting and important information for everyone to know. He always asks for questions during lecture and wants you to succeed. This is a super informative class that really inspired me to major in environmental studies. I would highly recommend it!!
Unreal professor. He cares so much about the students and subject matter. The lectures are interesting, and he makes sure that he says stuff in lecture that isn't online so you need to go. Great man.
This class was a lot of work and the tests were difficult. The work load was a huge burden on my other classes and the tests were very tough and specific. The class was basically a two part course, one part consisting of an extreme amount of outside work and the other being the lecture portion which was enough on its own. He's helpful one on one.
The class was tough, the exams had long difficult essay questions and the assigned text was dense and difficult to read, but George is a nice, funny guy who obviously cares about the subject and keeps it interesting. He tended to focus on lecturing/talking directly to a few students (& one grad student in particular) which got a bit tedious.
George was by far one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He always wants to help and make sure all his students are up to date and know the material. He helped me a lot and definitely take a class with him if you can
Very interesting but extremely rigorous. Toughest class I have taken, requires many hours of studying in advance, cramming the night before an exam won't work. Is available to help in and out of class. Professor shows passion about the subject, very intelligent, good at communicating material. Take if interested in course topics
Meindl is so passionate about what he teaches. He is always available to meet outside of lecture, and he makes sure to say things in lecture that aren't directly off the slides. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. Do the homework, read the textbook and go to class and you'll be fine.
pretty good prof. Made the class interesting.
Great teacher, hard class because there's a lot of material but it is very interesting. I just had trouble because I have a hard time memorizing things, but if you can you'll be good. I really enjoyed lectures, though. Super nice and helpful guy.
Dr. Meindl is the best professor that I have had at Binghamton all year. He makes an effort to get to know his students even though he has very large lectures. He is funny, engaging, and very knowledgeable. The tests are challenging, but not impossible with a lot of studying.
Dr. Meindl is probably one of the best professors i've ever had at Binghamton. His lectures are super interesting and clear, and the tests aren't hard if you put in the time to review. He genuinely cares for all of his students and goes out of his way to make sure everyone does well.
Wow what an amazing professor. Truly cares for every student. Tests are very fair and he makes you think analytically during class. There is a group research project throughout the whole semester. Very passionate about his field and it really shows. I would absolutely take him again. Don't waste your money on the textbook, I didn't open it once.
The best professor I've had as a college student. Just pay attention in class and take good notes and you will do well. He makes his lectures interesting and enjoyable and is easily approachable if you have any questions. I'm an engineering major and Meindl's class has inspired me to minor in sustainability. Everyone should take this class!!
It is a easy class. study for the test 2 days before and memorize the notes completely and you will get a A. There are fill in the blanks on tests so memorize good. the first test is very very easy. the discussion session is easy too. MEMORIZE
Meindl is amazing! He wants all his students to succeed. His lecture are very interesting and are basically straight out of the textbook. He adds some extra info that will be on the exam so go to class. There's a lot of info but if you study and keep up with the lectures it's an easy A.
One of my favorite professors at Binghamton. Tests are pretty average for this school. If you go to his office hours a few times and show effort he is usually willing to curve your grade a third of a letter grade. Discussion is also pretty easy, make sure you attend these. He doesn't take attendance in lecture but leaves gaps in his slides.
Makes you work hard but is there for you. He learns all the students names- I'm talking 200 names. Go to class because sometimes he basically gives you answers for questions on the tests to reward people who show up. Slides are informative. He's young and an active researcher- plus hes cute! Tests are long, but fair. And get ready to memorize!
His office hours are made through appointments; I don't understand why his office hours aren't walk-ins. He makes you memorize all of his lectures and the textbook chapters. He has a monotone voice, so be prepared to drink coffee before heading to class. Lecture grade is 100% based off of exams.
Helpful and easy to talk to outside of class, definitely cares about his students. Very engaging and enthusiastic about the material and mushrooms. Tests can be tricky, but lectures are clear and easy to follow and are posted online. A shining star in the apocalyptic wasteland that is the greater Binghamton area.
Meindl is great, not just a cool guy but also good at teaching. He makes the material very clear and easy to understand. Even if you're not into ecology, his lectures aren't boring because he makes them interesting and is engaging with his students.
Dr. Meindl is a really honest, caring and friendly professor. He takes time to attempt to memorize every person's name in his massive lecture class. He has really complete and informative lectures which means that reading the textbook is almost unnecessary. Attendance is optional, but there is info. given only in class. So GO!
Dr. Meindl is really helpful and friendly. Attendance is not mandatory and lecture notes are posted in Blackboard, but there are extra stuff which is not included in notes posted. And this extra bits comes in exams! He made his office hour more accessible by holding it in Jazzmans, and I really appreciate his effort to reach out more students!!
Good professor who is passionate about the subject, I enjoyed his class but your grade is truly dependent almost entirely on the exams. Even though I had a B- test average and a 100 on basically everything in the lab section, I still ended up with a B, a decent class overall though, I learned a lot.
Made lectures very interesting. However since he goes off tangent a lot, we ended up not covering several topics on the syllabus that seemed fun. 2/3 of final grade are from 3 exams that ask incredibly specific questions so make sure to KNOW those lecture slides. Also, go to class since he rewards those with guaranteed exam questions.
Dr. Meindl is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He is always available to chat and to talk about any problems you may have in the course. The class is very interesting and he goes out of his way to make the lecture engaging. I took this course for a gen ed and would recommend to everybody.
Dr. Meindl is really a nice and patient professor. He really cares his students and willing to answer any questions you may have and teach you how to use a good study method. The class is not very hard, but you need to memorize all of the key points of chapters.
George really is passionate about what he teaches and is great at making you passionate about it too. It's a difficult topic to teach and he knows that, and is constantly trying to make it more digestable and easier to learn. He always wants to know how to do better, and takes the criticism to heart to try to be better. A great class and A+ man.
You do not need to go to class but he leaves blanks in the slides and puts those on the tests. Really amazing professor and mentor! Really tries to get to know every single person. Best professor here.
Very good teacher and passionate about material but wouldn't say its an easy A by any means. The tests can be hard because there is a lot of matrial that is covered during lectures. Still a very inspiring course.
Love, love, love this class. Don't miss the opportunity.
Dont take this class if its not going to be one of your core classes.
One of my favorite professors ever. He truly cares about both the environment and his students. Get everything done on time, study lecture slides, and show up to discussion, it's that easy. Not only is it an easy class but the material is interesting. A great gen ed class so make sure you take it with Meindl if you have the chance.
He talks a lot during the lecture and it's very heavy on content but he's very open to answering any questions. He rewards you for coming to class by pointing out slides that are on the tests. Don't wait until the night before to study for tests.
Pretty tough class. Although I studied the night before I still managed to leave with an A-. I don't recommend doing that though. Honestly, the class was a lot more work than I thought for a introductory course, especially the paper we had to do. However, if you're interested in the subject, Meindl is a great professor.
This was such an amazing class to take. Dr. Meindl not only knows his stuff, but he is incredibly passionate about it. The slides are very detailed and good to study with, but he leaves out information so you have to attend class to get it. However, the tests are fairly simple, and the workload is light
A lot of reading and writing, as well as mandatory discussion (field trips!), but a very knowledgeable prof who cares about his students. Went beyond reading off a Powerpoint and made us understand the info rather than absorb it. Truly made me care about environmental studies. Engaging, intelligent, and kind. Effort and studying definitely required
the discussion class includes field trips to the nature preserve which i didn't know before signing up, but they aren't too bad. seems like a nice guy. his tests were surprisingly hard and did not do as well as i wanted to in the class
Took this for my major and he is a great prof who is always willing to talk/help. Tests are moderately hard w/ class average usually being 80% but lab section is a huge grade booster. Lab consists of hiking in nature preserve and doing easy 1 page current events. There is a final group project as well as final both not that hard.
90% of people including me were only taking for the gen ed but I gotta say by the end of the semester I really started to care about protecting our environment. He truly cares about what he's doing. Show up at your leisure just know he has special slides in lecture that he doesn't include online to get you to go to class.
THIS MANS. IS. INCREDIBLE. If you want teachers who are role models of human beings, take Prof Meindl. He truly cares about spreading understanding and love for the environment to his students. He is humble yet great at teaching (engaging, funny, breaks down complex ideas simply), and is always available to kindly help outside of class. Take him!!
He was a great teacher, goes in depth into the material to help you understand. I would definitely take his course again. Super friendly and cares about what hes teaching.
I love this guy. He is very inspiring and although he lectures a lot, they're very interesting. He is 100% willing to work with you with grades, he cares more that you understand the material. This class is not an easy A, but I really recommend any class with Meindl.
My first and best environmental class at Binghamton! Truly an inspirational professor and is always willing to hear students' opinion. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend going as the lectures as just as informative as they are fun.
Definitely one of my favorite classes in Binghamton. If you get the opportunity to take a course with Meindl, definitely take it! The lectures are amazing and he gets everyone involved in the class. The labs are extremely useful and revolve around students learning the tools they need to succeed in the scientific world. Would retake in a heartbeat.
Not the most engaging lectures, but is probably one of the most knowledgeable and passionate professors at the university. He loves his job and talking about nature and it shows during class, which is something I feel is rare to find in a teacher in this age.
Absolute nightmare. Don't be fooled by his rating. I love the environment and most content is interesting, but his class is ridiculous. Worst class I've taken at Bing. So much unnecessary discussion work that counts for nothing since 70% of your grade is 4 brutally hard exams with questions designed to trick you. I feel less bad about not recycling
Very nice professor and clearly cares about his students. It does feel like a lot of work at first, but if you oace it out you will do fine. The work isn't pointless, it really helps you understand the topics and gain a greater appreciation of the course. He is a great professor!
George is an amazing professor who is very understanding of his student's circumstances and stress levels. His exams are super passable if you even just review your notes, his goal is to make you care about the environment, not to give you stress. All of the discussion assignments are very easy and can be done in a timely fashion. 100% best prof!
Seems to put great care into the lectures. Bing is lucky to have him
Taking ENVI 101 with professor Meindl during the pandemic was the best decision I ever made. He has been so kind and understanding especially with the pandemic. Tests are fair and straightforward, and discussion is the same. Meindl is also always available to talk and open to questions. I would absolutely recommend him.
Meindl is honestly the best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about his students' well being, taking extra consideration of the fact that we are in the midst of a pandemic when giving assignments and grading us. Throughout the semester, he's made so many changes to the course schedule to help us out and give us a chance to breathe. 10/10
Amazing professor. All around best one Ive had, kept me going through the semester. You can tell he loves the subject and it makes a difference. Makes me consider double majoring in envi. Not hard to do well, definitely possible to get an A. 10/10 class.
You won't find a better professor than Dr. Meindl. I took his class during the pandemic so it was all online :( BUT he is honestly the best college professor I've ever had, and I'm a junior. He really cares about his students and he wants us all to pass. Lectures are so fun and interesting! Take his class, you won't regret it!!
Absolutely loved this class. Dr. Meindl has been my favorite professor I have had so far and I hope to take more of his classes. The amount of work isn't bad especially if you manage your time well. Can't say enough positive things about this course and professor, he truly cares about his students and his work!
Definitely the best professor I've had throughout my time at Binghamton. He is very kind and helpful in preparing us for exams and giving us knowledge in an easily accessible but still critical way. Would recommend ENVI101 with Meindl to everyone.
I really enjoyed my time with this professor, is genuinely engaged with the ideas students bring to class, and encourages students to dive deeper into these problems. As long as you listen in his class and do all the assignments, you will get an A.
Fall 2020 was a tough semester, with coronavirus and so much else, but Dr. Meindl made it worth getting through. He had open-resource tests, dropped the worst test grade, offered bonus point opportunities and was always there to help. If you go to class and put some effort into the assignments, you'll get a decent grade and have learned a lot.
Professor Meindl is honestly one of the best professors at Binghamton. He very clearly cares a lot about the subject matter as well as his students. Even with the class being online he keeps his lectures interesting and engaging. If you show up to lectures and actually take notes the tests are not hard.
A super helpful and caring professor. Fall semester has been very stressful due to the pandemic and classes being online, but Dr. Meindl has let us know multiple times that he is here to help. If you are having trouble with the class, all you have to do is reach out to him and he will help. Great Professor with a kind caring soul!
You can tell Dr. Meindl truly cares about the environment and loves teaching. I wish i had this class in person but due to the pandemic it is online and dr Meindl has gone above and beyond to help his students succeed in these times. I hope to take his classes in the future. I look forward to his class every week.
I came into this class not really knowing about the environment or even really caring about it but Professor Meindl changes my perspective completely. Tests can be a little challenging but if you attend every lecture and listen you will be okay :). He gives incentives for those who attend lecture. He also cares a lot about his students.
Meindl is a very good professor and you can tell he's very passionate about his field. He does "asterisk slides" that aren't in the slides he posts during the lectures to encourage coming to classes when they are live and there was a ton of asynchronous HW that end up stacking up at the end of the semester. Very good professor!!!
There honestly isn't enough room to give professor Meindl justice. He is one of the most amazing and caring professors I have ever had. He cares about every one of his students and is so accommodating. He is so passionate and knowledgeable about the Environment and I think everyone should take one of his classes if they can!
he gives extra slides to those who attend lecture and 9 times out of 10 a decent amount of the test questions come from those slides. There were a ton of homework assignments, possibly because it was fully online, but they were super easy and quick. there's one group project at the end of the year thats really easy too, just beware of the tests
One of the nicest teachers I have ever had. He truly cares about his students and wants to help you learn. It is not an easy A but he provides a very helpful study guide for each exam. This class is worth taking!
An amazing professor!! He's so passionate about what he teaches and it makes the class so enjoyable. The work is pretty manageable, just don't procrastinate studying because the tests can cover a lot of material. You do group work during your discussion section too, but I never felt overworked or too stressed by this class. Very manageable and fun!
Dr. Meindl is great, he explains topics well and makes materials easily accessible. You will have a research project and a student-led discussion, but they are spaced far enough apart that you won't stress about them. There is minimal homework and 3 exams with no final. He is very charismatic and loves to teach. 10/10 recommend.
Meindl is a great professor! Very understanding and teaches an easy class. Gives study guides for each test, it's hard to fail his course.
I have so much respect for Professor Meindl. ENVI 101 is an interesting class that touches on so many topics about the environment and how humans are impacting it. You can clearly tell he is passionate about what he teaches. Workload is not bad, mainly exams. In discussion we take hikes in the nature preserve. Take this class if you can!
As a professor, Meindl is very good. He's knowledgeable and passionate about the material he teaches. He goes a little fast in lectures but you can catch up if you have the slides open, or ask him to slow down. Just go to class and take decent notes. For an intro class, there are a lot of assignments in the discussion portion.
Pretty easy class, not too much work. Tests are a bit difficult. Great professor and I really enjoyed his lectures. Dr. Meindl is a really nice and understanding professor.
Dr. Meindl is friendly, knowledgeable and caring. He is open to feedback during the course and changes things to benefit students. The course consists of 3 exams and two projects. This is a great way to learn about soils.
Prof Meindl is clearly passionate about what he teaches his students. This makes the class so much easier. His humor, enthusiasm, and clear insight on the material makes you actually want to go to class. Tests are moderately hard, but when you put in the work outside of class you'll be fine. I highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Meindl was the best Professor Ive had so far. Envi 101 is a large lecture, but he made time for me every time I needed it. He is lenient, super kind, and is actually a very good professor too. I know above it says didnt do the best in his class, but that was on me, not him. Class was very straightforward, and not that difficult.
Just by taking his class, its abundantly clear how much Professor Meindl cares about the material hes teaching. Hes a really sweet guy who obviously not just cares about his job, but the students themselves as well. He always tries his best to interact with the class and appears more than happy to answer questions.
Professor Meindl clearly cares about his students. He's extremely passionate about the environment and he makes his lectures so engaging. His lectures are interesting and he's actually quite funny. I would definitely recommend taking his class. There is a final group project at the end. However, it's very straightforward and nothing to worry about.
Prof Meindl is the best professor I've had here. He always emails back in a timely manner and wants to help his students. There are 2 group projects and some discussion summaries that you have to write up but otherwise this is an easy class. He gives out study guides and practice problems for the exams too. 10/10 recommend GEOL328/ENVI328 with him
Dr. Meindl was an absolute GEM! His lectures were always so fascinating and even though the class isn't mandatory, he does have specific slides that don't get posted online so it's encouraged that you do. Discussions are also really great and honestly as long as you do the assigned work and do some studying for tests I'd say it's an easy A.
Dr. Meindl is a great instructor and really cares about the environment. His lectures are engaging and provide you with food for thought. The tests are fair, but not always super easy, so attending class to get the asterisk slides and using the study guides and practice exams he sends out is very helpful. Overall, I really enjoyed his class.
Such a wonderful professor. When he lectures, you can clearly tell you know what he's talking about + loves what he does. Exams are fair, show up to lecture and be able to apply the material. Highly recommend this class and makes you think about your place in the environment.
Took for psych elective. Easy A. Wish I paid attention, so I could love him like everyone else haha. Honestly easy and a kind guy. Def take for a gen ed or psych elective. Didn't predict an A and got one without realizing it.
Dr. Meindl is AMAZING, but I came here specifically to say that this course is NOT as hard as other people are rating it. Over half of the test questions are common sense. He posts both a study guide for you to fill out AND 100+ practice questions (a ton of which would be on the test). Legit just show up to lectures sometimes and youll do great!
Dr. Meindl is a really genuine guy and his passion for the field makes the class enjoyable. He is accommodating and wants everyone to do well. The discussion section can be a little miserable at times but it's not difficult. We went hiking in the nature preserve a few times so be prepared for that. The tests are fair and easy if you attend lecture!
I'd just recently switched my major to environmental science, and Dr Meindl made me glad I did it. He's clearly so passionate about his job and the content he teaches that you can't help but feel inspired. He's also really reasonable and caring, and will give out curves and extra credit based on the needs of the class instead of randomly.
Do not take his class, mad hard tests
Professor Meindl clearly cares about what he teaches and does a great job at it. Lectures were always interesting and useful to attend. Study guides were immensely helpful for the exams, so do those and you will have an easy A.
