He is such a nice man! He tries to come across as a hard ass but as the semester goes on he loosens up with the remaining people in the class. His classes are hard but it is possible to get an A if you work at it.
Monahan is a great professor! I don't care what anyone thinks, but I highly recommend him for western civ. He has a great sense of humor and makes history so interesting! He's a bit intimidating, but deep down inside he's a big teddy bear! He's a cutie!!

Prof. Monahan seemed ok in the beginning but then he stopped being as helpful and he is not all understanding of anything. He tries to run his class with a "iron fist" and that can get irritating after a while. However, this is just my opinio
Prof. Monahan is such a great professor. He brings history to life. His lectures are animated and funny. Despite a tendency to go off a little bit... In my opinion he is the creme de l'creme of History Professors. He's a hottie...Too bad he's married!!
He knows all the juicy stuff about all the ancients, try him out! He does stick to the material and does not go too far onto tangents. I give him an "A"
Prof. Monahan's class is not very challenging. His teaching style is rather annoying, and so is he. Although i found his class rather easy, I could not stand listening to him. His cocky attitude and feeling of self importance takes away from the class. This is just my opinion.
Prof Monahan is a great teacher. Although he may rub some peopl the wrong way, he enjoys and is genuinely dedicated to teaching. His assignments may be difficult, but are generally no more difficult than should be expected for college work. Inspired me to better myself academically.
All I have to say is do not arrive late and do your reading. You will get quite an earful from him. This professor falsely believes he is smarter than Einstein. However he is knowledgable in history and more than willing to help a student with a question.
His class is extremely boring, he thinks he is god which is far from the truth. If you do one thing wrong on an essay you are screwed and his class is bassed on three essays. if you cant write dont take his class
Anyone who has a problem with this teacher will most likely not succeed. He demands dedication to his course, and is one of the only professors at suffolk who provides coursework similar to a 4 year school. I commend him for it. And of course you need to know how to WRITE...you're a college student?
One of the nicest guys out there. Honestly, anyone who complains is retarded. He gives you the final and mid-term essay exam weeks ahead of time and always wants to help. He even lets you pick your term paper topic. Stop complaining you morons he's a great professor!
Great teacher who really knows his stuff. Well educated and is extremely difficult to argue with. If you are on the far left and wouldn't reconmend because he will eat you alive...
Total Awesomeness
words cant describe.
Prof. Monohan is one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. He enjoys singling out students and embarassing them. He never stays on the topic and only give HIS narrow view on everything. I would only recommend this class for someone who enjoys being stressed out.
OMG. One of the most brilliant/ ignorant minds ever to walk. He knows his stuff but I hate hearing about his right wing agenda. He would make you believe George W. $h!ts bricks of gold. He also has favorites and constantly lets it be known. I hate him!!!!!!!

I love him. Great guy, inspired teacher.
This is what a real professor is all about. He demands respect and maturity from his students. The man definently knows his history, one of the most brilliant men i've had as a teacher. Taking notes is not necessary, gives a midterm and final essay. But gived you the question in advance. One 6-8 page paper is due also and that is it. Very strict wi
Words can't even describe this man! He is the nastiest man on the riverhead campus. He enjoys embarassing students and has many unfair policies. Take it from me, don't take him!!
More than 50% of the people who take his class drop it. He is very intelligent, but is a very unfair grader with no sympathy for anybody. It aggrevates me that he teaches a class that everbody must take whether they like it or not, and hes that strict
Very strict lateness and attendance policy, extremely hard grader, all around mean guy. Class consists of two essays that he doesn't teach in class, and one paper that has to be unique and interesting or he'll fail you. Wouldn't even recommend him to my worst enemy. P.S. The other teachers and staff at sccc don't even like him.
If you are going to take Monahan's classes, you have to be a dedicated student. There is no room for screwing around in his class. He's a great professor and very smart, but strict on attendance, timliness, and doesn't like students falling asleep in his class. Mostly lectures, no tests, 2 essays (midterm/final) & a paper. Fair grader, good guy.
Only take his class if you want to learn. Do the reading and the tests are EASY! Oh yeah, and learn how to write. What you learn in his class will get will help you become a scholar!!!
Nasty, nasty, nasty..very hard grader..very rude and unfrair
Definatly an awesome teacher. Very effective way of teaching, had me looking foward to going to class. Very insightful. Dont take him if u plan on only doing half assed work!!
This professor is just a nasty man and seems to enjoy imtimidating his students. He is hard to find if you need help and doesnt get back to you if you try contacting him. If you take his class you can not make a single mistake, he fails even the most unimportant error. I learned nothing from this class.
He is very intelligent, but is a very unfair grader with no sympathy for anybody. He doesn't help if u need help. He has a bad attitude. I had to change class. On the other hand, he has a lot of knowledge. I realy good in History (A). Don't take him
he is extremely cocky and needs to get his head out of his ass. He thinks everything should revolve around him and that he is this great source of knowledge when he is not. He has the biggest ego
he will give you a lesson on how to become "grown ups" and better students... but is extremly unfair and very strict, DO NOT miss class or come in late cause he will kick you out and yell at you and dont go to the bathroom either cause he yells and goes mad. his grading policy sucks hoewever his tests are easy. dont take him - nothing pleases him!!
I had Monohan prior to transferring to a University and I have not found a more informative history professor yet.One paper, midterm, and final, but gives the questions one week prior. If you are not a dedicated student, do not take him. This is what a professor should be. This is college, not high school anymore. You're the best Monohan!
Professor Monahan is a wonderful Professor! He is very fair, and very down to earth. As long as you do the reading, and pay attention you will do very well. He really brings History to life!

Monahan is one of the VERY FEW REAL professors at SCCC. He has so much to teach and is very enthusiastic about it.If you have no interest in history DO NOT TAKE. He doesnt test what you learn in class so you must STUDY. That is YOUR responsibility! This is college NOT high school. Overall Great professor and taking 2 more class next semester.
difficult to communicate with. material on tests not covered in class. Worst teacher i ever had !!!!
worst teacher of my life. he talks about the most ridiculous and useless things like his bagpiping band - which by the way is not on the test. waste of my time at suffolk. do not take him
WORST TEACHER !!! Class started out with 25 students and ended with 7. Most of the 7 got F's because he doesn't know how to teach the material that he tests on. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR !!!!
A bloated, self-important ass. He goes on at length in his syllabus about what a scholar he is, and he can't even spell. Monahan is a highly confused individual and a danger to anyone with a weak mind who would actually buy into his nonsense. If you want to spend a few hours a week seething with disgust, sign up for his class!
EASY A+ Ok.. So he might be an Ass#!@#2 ..BUT, His class is so EASY!!! omg.. People Im telling you , He gives you the answers to the test and essays, HE'S AN EXTREMELY EASY TEACHER!! he just has a weird personality. I do recommend him if you want to get an EASY A+
On day 1 he intimidates most students and the low achievers end up dropping the class. You come to find out he's funny but VERY liberal. He goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the tests.Attendance is mandatory so that's brutal.Join in to pass the time. The test are easy.He gives you the question, answers, and you memorize them.
Horrible, the worst stay clear of him if you don't want to fail! Thank you for my F!!!!
Do yourself the favor..dont ever take him for western civvvvvv!
Mr. Monohan was a GREAT teacher! He gives you the answers to the tests, all you have to do is memorize them. He goes off on tangents that make class interesting..I never opened my book, but still got an A because I only had to memorize! Strict doesn't care about your issues but will sit with you to review the essays if you ask. Funny guy took twice
OMG, talk of the campus, and worse professor, i dropped his class after the first day. goes on rants about how he will dominate you an hes the star of the show! word of advice, if you dont wanna fail, dont take him, if you dont wanna be intimidated and made to feel like everything you say is wrong, dont take him. take HIST 104, instead.
the guy is just horrible. some advice, start studying for the midterm once you get the syllabus
The one thing this guy is good at, is making your days in class a little more interesting by always going off on tangents, and using outside stories to keep your attention. Other than that, his grading policy sucks! I withdrew after the midterm. If you not good at memorizing, don't take him. He says he open to your ideas, hes not. DONT TAKE HIM!
He seems tough in the beginning but he's actually a really easy teacher and knows what he's talking about. The test so easy, just use the website he gives you to practice the questions and you'll be fine. and there is no homework!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! This man is an absolute nightmare. He is rude, arrogant, and his lectures in class have nothing at all to do with the ONLY 2 TESTS THAT YOUR GRADE IS BASED ON. I wish i would've dropped this class the first day it is the biggest regret of my college career..YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. SERIOUSLY.
He is smart, but a mean guy. Wont help, dont buy the text , all you need is the website on the sylabus to study for the tests. Attendance Nazi, even though all you need to do is memorize the website and do some research out of class for the midterm and final. Otherwise class time is useless
Arrogant and disgusting. Something is mentallt wrong with him. No professor working for a tax funded school should come in wearing a "Taxation is Slavery" t-shirt, but he seems to think its ok. His lectures have nothing to do with each other and he doesn't teach, he rants. Stay away. The man is nothing but trouble.
I've taken 3 classes with this professor and he's great! He won't hold your hand, you have to study, but you end up learning a lot from him! Multiple choice portion of the exams are simple memorization, and he'll go over the essays with you if you ask. He's not going to wipe your ass for you. Come to class, do your work, get an A. Easy as that.
Entertaining, but goes on his own pace.
Awesome Professor!!! He will help, but you have to ask for it. Read the book!!! It's okay to have your own view of a topic in his class, just be prepared to defend it. He does rant, but he makes class interesting.
He's a very funny professor at times and can be interesting, but at the same time he also has the ability to make an hour and 15 minutes to seem like a lot more than that! Class is usless. You need to memorize 3 essays and 160 multiple choice questions just to actually need to know 1/4 of that. 50% of your grade is the midterm and 50% is the final.
I thought he was great. He kept lectures interesting and he doesn't give any take home work other than preparing for the midterm and final. Anyone who gets less than an A has no excuse. He gives the midterm and final information the first day. There are no surprises.
his lectures can be interesting. Yet, he goes off subject all the time which is why he is behind on schedule. Mid term and final are the only things he grades you on. Want an easy history class? Monahan is the perfect teacher! Just study
Goes at his own speed. Does not cover the material throughout the semester. After mid-terms he just continues where he left off. Meaning you have to sit there for the rest of the semester listening to him lecture on material that you were already tested on! You are basically on your own and required to do all of the reading.
This professor has a bad rap for being tough, but the expectations entering the class are very clear. Everything you need to do is on the syllabus. He has no room for nonsense. Donâ??t expect him to cover all the material on the test in class. If you do whats on the syllabus you should get at least a B. His lectures interesting and expectations fair.
Before entering his class, all of my friends made him seem like a nightmare. He's actually pretty chill, he's just has no tolerance for stupidity or laziness which is understandable. 2 tests in the entire semester, and it was multiple choice with 30 questions and an essay on each. Such an easy teacher, he just lectures a lot but he's interesting.
Half your grade is the midterm and the other half is the final he is monotone and aggravating
He is not going to hold your hand, and "teach" you, but you know exactly what materials are going to be on the midterm and final from the beginning. You do need to read the book, and some research, but if you can get over his antics, you'll be fine.
My favorite professor at Suffolk, next to Giancola. I heard a lot of bad things before entering his class; I was pleasantly surprised. He's extremely engaging and held my attention from start to finish. If you memorize the multiple choice questions and study the essay questions THAT HE SUPPLIES YOU WITH BEFORE THE EXAMS, you will easily pass. :)
I loved History and I have never had a teacher so harsh on the class. I am an English major and I was unbelievably saddens. I dropped this class twice because of the harsh grading. If you can stick with it you learn a lot but my goodness!
No need to buy the text book the first day of class he gives you a website of multiple choice Q's and every single question on the midterm and final (no altered at all!) are online you just need to memorize them. He is theatrical and brilliant, two exams and attendance thats it. He is my favorite professor
In the class I took (West Civ.1) he was very knowledgeable but he gave 2 tests - mid term and final. He expected you to memorize 500 questions from a web site and would choose certain questions from them. Class was pointless as none of his lectures were on the test. Guy was a stickler. Find a diff. professor to teach you.
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
The man is so full of himself. His exams were multiple choice questions that resembled puzzles. I would stay up for hours memorizing his handout, class notes, and the text book. He grades harshly the term papers. I have no idea of what my grade was since he never handed mine back. Asking his help on the course is useless since he's an oxy-moran.
Good teacher
HE IS TERRIBLE! he gives you the essay questions in the begining of the year but they are very specific and he is harsh while grading them! only 2 test which is what your grade is based off of and he makes it mandatory to attend all classes otherwise you fail! i do have to say that he keeps you interested in the subject but DO NOT TAKE HIM
He was actually really intimidating but once you actually talk to him he's really not. He just has a no BS tolerance. He gives you all the multiple choice questions the first day of class, learn them. He gives you the essay questions as well and he talks about them in class but actually research them. Don't take his class if you are lazy.
great teacher. really knows what hes talking about and makes the class laugh by relating it to today kind of stuff... don't come late and make sure to show up..
This professor is absolutely full of himself to the point where he actually asks you to call him doctor. A community college professor... He is rude to the students and makes class unpleasant to be in. You are Better off taking a online course since he goes off topic in class continuously. Best way to learn here is to teach yourself.
The man is an arrogant buffoon, believing himself to be the pinnacle of the human mind. He can't stay on topic, doesn't teach you a damn thing about the course, and his tests are ridiculous. Do not take his classes, you'll be entirely on your own. You'd be better off online. He insults and berates students for things like worrying about his tests.
Do not take this class. The only grades are the midterm and the final so if you don't do good on the midterm u fail right there. I used to really enjoy history but he made me resent it. Regret taking his class 100%
Horrible and mean , he literally knows no ones name and is really strict and anal about being to class exactly on time , everyone who takes him fails or will get a extremely low grade , he refuses to let people withdraw and will lock you out if you forget a scan-tron ,has 2 test that determine your grade ,dont ever take him or you will regret it
Okay so here's the rundown. You get get a syllabus with four essay questions. Two for midterms, and two for finals. He assigns 1 of the two for each exam. (You have all semester to research) there's mult. choice of 25 questions that you just have to memorize the answers to. Awesome prof. Never ask if he can lecture for the exam. He will flip out.
Awesome guy! CAme into this class a little scared originally. He's pretty funny. Loves sasquatch. Just come to class and participate. He is very enthusiatic. Do the reading/research on your own time. Really easy class. Got an A. Want to take him again. one more thing. he has 0 tolerance for lies or b.s. oh and don't show up late!
Excellent teacher! He is very upfront and is a wealth of knowledge. If you failed it was due to lack of study and effort.
I loved this class! Monahan really knows his stuff, his lectures are lively and make history relevant and relatable. He has no tolerance for B.S. and slackers, thus the whiner reviews here. Read the textbook, study the online quizzes, research the essays, and be on time to class. Always willing to help in office hours.
If you're not going to pay attention in class, research the mid-term and final essay questions, and practice the multiple choice questions, don't waste your time taking his class. He has no tolerance for b.s. Oh and no cellphones. He'll flip.
I did "okay" i suppose in the class. But overall, the class didn't. He's not the worst, but certainly not the best. Just research the essay topics; and practice the questions, and you should do fine.
He is a decent professor. The fact that you must be there for the lecture when they have absolutely nothing to do with the midterm or final is ridiculous to me. Sometimes rude but he mostly just does not care for anyone who is immature. He wants you to be there for every class and says if you are over 2 absences and your mom dies he does not care.
He is a good guy I have to admit, but he is very rude. Some people enjoy the way he teaches, which is you reading every chapter in the textbook, and basically memorizing 160 multiple choice questions for a 25 question test. I failed the midterm because I didn't take it seriously, but if you study the way you're supposed to you'll pass easy.
Okay quick advice. Don't buy the textbook. He puts all the questions for the only two test online. 160 or something multiple choice. Start the semester every week memorize 20. You do this and you get an 75 automatically. Do okay on the essay and you've got a good grade. DONT BE LATE. NO PHONES. DONT SHOW FEAR. When in doubt mention Peru.
I write this not out of spite, but simply to with clarity explain my experience. Monahan was a funny guy, but he was a rude & shameless. The class had little reflection on the midterm or final. IF you are a student who is not going to perform well relying on a textbook, don't take his class because that's all his two tests are minus some research.
Professor Monahan often gets a bad rep. with students who don't like to apply themselves. Ironically, the entire course is passed with only two tests. He gives you a link to a website where you can review ALL of the multiple choice questions beforehand. I made flashcards and memorized everything. Just be respectful and put in effort. He's brilliant
He takes his job very seriously, maybe too seriously to most. He has 2 tests and they're not that difficult however you do have to study for them. He takes the attendance policy extremely seriously and his lectures probably won't do anything for you. He is very helpful and nice if you go to his office before tests, he'll tell you everything.
he is terrible. I have never failed a class in my life till his. First class he told us he doesn't care if someone dies you can only miss two classes. I dislike his class so much I went to the dean
great professor. He takes his job very seriously and he holds you accountable for your actions. Show up on time, Pay attention, and study you will do fine. His lectures are interesting and he knows how to keep his students attention. The people who give him a bad name are just angry that George held them accountable for their actions.
He wasn't the best but he was funny, all he did was lecture and he kinda only got through 4 chapters out of the 17, BUT he gave you everything you needed to pass. There is an online option with quizzes, TAKE ONE EVERY WEEK AND MEMORIZE THEM, those are the EXACT questions he uses on the finals, he gives you help if you just ask! Oh and be mature.
I like him as a person, but not as a teacher. He's a very funny and smart guy, however his lectures are pointless and long. He gives you the questions to the midterm & final (the only 2 grades in the class) so its super easy, but he takes the attendance policy very seriously and his lectures drag on. I wouldn't take him again
I don't think he's a good professor in relation to the tests he gives, because his lectures have nothing to do with the textbook and the exams. Although his lectures are very interesting and easy to learn from, they are completely unnecessary. He spent 4 days talking about Jesus, who appeared in TWO questions on the midterm.
took him for western civ 1, wasnt terrible but his lectures are EXTREMELY boring and long. have nothing to do with the test. there are only 2 tests, the midterm and the final. he gives you the questions for both so you really have to study. if you dont mind sitting through boring lectures and memorizing over 120 multiple choice questions take him
Gives 2 tests: midterm and final. They are both 20-25 multiple choice and one essay, expected to fill the blue book. He just lectures, no participation needed. Can't be late. Can't go to the bathroom. Can't skip class more than like once. Don't buy the textbook. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!! He'll basically tell you what to write on the essay. Nice man!
He takes attendance very seriously and I fear for the people who are late. He can be funny but he barely got through the material. Only grades are the midterm and final. He gives you everything though including the essay and multiple choice. Memorize those and your good. If you can take it with someone else, do it. I learned nothing.
only get graded on your midterm and final and no notes were provided besides the multiple choice quizzes online
Two days before the final and we were literally 8 weeks behind according to his own syllabus. We had JUST started topics that were supposed to be in the last chapter on the MIDTERM on the last day before the FINAL. If anyone dared to bring this up in class, he would scold them during class. I had to go to the dean of students for this.
How does this man still have a job? He is an abusive teacher who preaches his ideology. If he thinks you're a liberal he will cripple your essay score. This is an educational tragedy, who knows how many students have had their GPA or their lives altered by his arrogance? I let him think that he "changed" my ideology, so I got an A!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! do not take him.
I took professor Monahan for history 101. Great professor. Very into his lectures and really wants you to focus and pass. No presentations, no quizzes just midterm and final and he gives you all the questions prior to the test. I am extremely bad at any type of history but he makes the class super easy.
Amazing professor. Tests are super easy. Be prepared to learn. Always there to fully explain things if you do not understand. Always willing to help but not going to hold your hand. Make sure you have specific questions for him.
This man is a great professor. He's extremely strict, but as long as you just pay attention in class and study, you WILL get an A. There's no hw and tests questions are given, so they're easy. The only complaint I would have is how uncomfortable it gets when someone is disrespectful, because he will curse and go off. TAKE HIM!
Lectures have nothing to do with tests and quizzes. You're on your own to read the chapters and figure out what to remember for the quiz. Doesn't give many so if you fail one, you won't pass.
Horrible teacher, doesn't respect students and thinks hes God. Calls his students uneducated peasants. Gives unfair final and expects you to take a test and a final in the same day. 50% of your grade in one day is not a fair standing.
He sits there the whole class talking about topics, most of which will not be on the test. He's usually weeks behind so by the time you take test two, you'll still be covering material that was meant for test one. He does give you instructions on where to find all the questions for the tests, but it's tedious work. Overall I felt it was pointless.
Good teacher, very interesting lectures, I was never bored in his class and I definitely learned a lot. HOWEVER he is VERY OPINIONATED about certain things and if you're a confrontational person you will not get along. Also: he's a harsh grader, you're gonna actually have to work hard and study a lot on the online questions to get a good grade.
At first, professor Monahan seemed like one of the worst professors at SCCC, but in all honesty, he grows on you. His class is easy if you study for the quizzes and take diligent notes. Yes, he's loud and comes off as intimidating to some, but he really is a sweetheart. You cannot go wrong with this professor, a solid choice, an easy A.
Professor at first seems very mean but he is actually a really nice man. A very strict man who really knows his history. He is very tough on attendance but motivates students to always try there best. I just wish his lectures weren't just him talking the whole time.
Very inspirational, smart, funny. Can be a bit dramatic especially with comparing life decisions to your academic performance. Otherwise, show up, youll pass
Thought he was going to be a great professor because the only work you had to do was study for the tests. If you can memorized 120 questions, then take him. He's very opinionated, and does not cover anything at all in class. Only way to pass the class is to memorize the questions. Don't know how he still has a job because he doesn't teach.
Very hard grader and its his way or no way. He is very vocal about inappropriate subjects. I wouldnt recommend him as a professor
Even though this professor gives no homework, your graded on 4 items. They are 3 multiple choice exams, and an essay. The last multiple choice exam and essay are the final, so if you fail the 1st 2 exams, don't bother coming back to class because there is no makeups or retakes. Monohan is a nice guy, but there is little wiggle room for failure
I've taken 3 classes with Dr. Monahan, he can be intimidating at first but once you give him a chance, he's really a smart and funny guy. He has a very strict moral code, especially with cell phones in class but he always keeps every class entertaining. Tests are very easy as long as you study, if you study you will get an A on every assignment.
Monahan will come off tough. He checks attendance almost every single class. He seems strict but he is a funny guy after you get through a few classes. He easily gets off topic, but when he does it's pretty amusing to hear his stories. He doesn't use the textbook at all. There was no homework whatsoever. There are 3 exams and 1 final research essay
Doesn't use textbook at all, don't waste your money on it. Strict with attendance. Don't get caught on your phone or you will regret it, it really isn't worth it. No homework. He has 3 graded assignments: exam 1, exam 2, exam 3, and final essay. Lecture material not on exams; just study the online quizzes bc that's whats on the exams.
Before I took Dr. Monahan I was on this site. I saw many bad reviews and people were telling me hes horrible but in all honestly I dont think so. He talks about wanting to turn his students into scholars and do good by learning how to be on time and not miss a class. I believe he only has 4 tests and you should take notes during lectures. Easy.
I took both HIS 101 and HIS 102 with Dr. Monahan. On the first day he was scary, but the things he says are mainly just to intimidate you. His lectures do not help you on the tests but it is mandatory that you show up and pay attention. I would make study guides for each test and make sure you prepare for the final when he gives you the essay topic
I took Professor Monahan 2 years ago. Please be advised to look on the website that he gives you on the first day. Sudy hard and DO the practice quiz! Just a warning he doesnt have a filter if your easily offended do not take the class. Please take what what he says with a grain of salt he has a odd sense of humor. Good luck everyone.
I took Dr. Monahan this semester for Western Civ 102. He takes attendance very seriously and does not accept phones being out. If youre easily offended you shouldnt take this class. He has an odd or dark sense of humor but hes very smart. Gives 3 quizzes and gives you all the answers, u have to study hard for the final though; i loved this class
Horribl Professor more than half of the students in this class failed including me I had maintained a B all throughout the semester. But all of the sudden at the end of the semester he gives me an F I asked to speak to him during the summer about my grade, he said he will be on vacation the whole semester and to see him when he gets back.
Avoid at all costs
He can definitely be a lot to handle but the class is very simple. Show up to class and take the practice quizzes before the tests. The questions are word for word so it is impossible to do bad if you memorize them. In class just be respectful and go along with his tangents, they can be a real joy.
unless youre a history major, youre not going to do well. very difficult with his test. great explainer and understanding points in history not well with course material.
If you are a history major pay attention! Professor Monahan is really the guy to learn from. He leaves studying up to you basically he doesnt want you to take this class for just credit. He wants you to actually know your stuff.
George Monahan became the bane of my existence. He assigned three exams total, that was it. On top of that, the exams are based off of work you do on your own, outside of class. Asks you to purchase a $100 textbook, that was never opened. His lectures had no substance, and he would go off topic constantly. However, he is extremely educated.
Due to the pandemic, I unfortunately had to take his class online. However, his class was one of the harder classes for myself since you basically had to read 50-80 pages in a textbook but there was no due dates. No papers just tests. You really have to apply yourself but it's an overall easy class.
i saw him once online, never again. Rarely responded to emails. Expected us to learn everything from hour long videos to textbook. Never had meetings. 10 quizzes and one test. It was an easy class but if you fail 3 quizzes you basically failed the class considering thats all he graded. Over all, horrible teacher, easy class if he put the effort in
I took this class over the winter, it was a really quick semester. He assigned A LOT of work ,each module was at least 100 pages of reading. He did 10 quizzes one final. Honestly you were able to look up the answers to the quizzes. He gives you the final ahead of time. Hes also not very nice, I emailed him multiple times and he was cold. But easyA
worse experience ever. do not recommend! tough grader. quizzes are nearly impossible. final is tremendous. no homework. must go to class or points get deducted. take another professor if possible. practically impossible to barely pass.
We had 1 zoom meeting at the start of the semester and then never saw him again. you were the professor in this course, about 10 quizzes and one final exam. very boring class
Prof. Monahan is a great guy, online it would be boring, but classes in person are lively and always entertaining. Class is mandatory and you shouldn't be late. But all you have to do is listen and if you like history this class is great. Grades are just based on ten quizzes and a final and that part is all online so it makes it easy. Def recommend
Professor Monahan's HIS101 class can be a hit or miss. While the lectures are engaging, the grading can be tough. Attend class, take notes, and use Unstuck study for exam prep to do well.
This professor was genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take his class. He is the most egotistical man I have ever meant and his grading system makes it difficult to pass the class. I don't know how this man is still a teacher and is just a very rude person in general. His lectures have nothing to do with his exams.
I was going to take a W for his class after my first day with him. I stuck it out. He is very blunt and comes off hard but he expects you to be on time, treat this like a job and to read the textbook on your own at home. Do not expect reminder for quizzes. check your brightspace often!
Arguably the best lectures given here at Suffolk, would 100% take again he knocks it out of the park, HIS LECTURES DO NOT COVER QUIZ MATERIAL that is for you to study for independently, his lectures are easily top shelf and are all the more worth it.
If you are taking this class for pleasure, you will love it; otherwise youll hate it His lectures are just him yapping about history that has NOTHING to do with exams AT ALL Textbook material is what the exam is He finds it a waste of time to use lecture for things in the textbook Class is MANDATORY and then you still have to read the whole textbok
Amazing Professor who loves history and teaches with passion. As long as you read the textbook chapters you will have enough material to take the online quizzes, which I like because in class lectures can sometimes go off track (but in the best way). Learned so much.
He knows what he is talking about, but it is all just him talking for the whole class. The book was just a waste of money; tests are all online, no extra credit, and he will put you on the spot if you are late to class.
Do not take this troll. He does not care about his students.
Worst online class I ever took. Never heard from this guy. No lectures - no notes - no nothing. Want an experience where "the professor" phones it in? Take Monahan for online classes.
