*Do review sheets-will help with tests!!!!! You sometimes may have a hard time understanding what he is saying. He has a hard time explaining simple topics in math that can be essential to use later on. The communication between him and the Comp Lab is 0. Alot of confusion on what is due and when.
He is a great teacher he breaks everything down so that his students can understand. The good thing about his class is that you only have 4 exams and before each exams he give you a review sheet that is worth one point. The good thing about the review is that it is just like the test. His exams only has five question with subsections.
This instructor was not helpful for me. he made it clear that he was not here to teach the material, thats what the math lab is for. I have a difficult time adjusting to his teaching style. i am not a great math student and I needed a little more instructot involvement.
I don't know what those other people were talking about. I enjoyed his class, he was fairly entertaining. He went over the material thoroughly. If you do the homework, you WILL pass his tests, they're the exact same questions, just different numbers.

This guy is really nice and tries to teach. If he were not nice I would completely berate him. I could not understand him 95% of the time and I had to teach myself. He tries really hard to explain but is just not cut out for teaching. Good luck if you take him-if you need help and want to understand the material, take someone else.
Lets just say that i bought the book for no reason. I spend 4hrs a day on Lab IT SUCKS, he does not teach well HOWEVER he gives you a worksheet before every test, if you do that you get an A :) I have an A so far so i like him!
Very reasonable and fair professor. He graded homework on accuracy rather than attempt which keeps you honest. You will work harder on HW and the practice will help. He focused on practical applications for the business world which is very helpful and interesting. He is available in the office if you need help. I
Very nice man! Had a hard time following him through his lectures though. Not a very thorough algebra professor. I had to reteach myself everything in the math lab. I do not recommend him if math is not ur subject!
Nguyen is a good guy but he is simply not cut out for teaching. I felt like I was going to class for nothing. When I did learn something, it was because I went to the math lab and asked for help, learned it on my own or went to tutoring. I do not recommend him if you aren't confident in your math skills.
I love math, so i passed all of his tests with As. He sucks at teaching, but i was in the Math Lab all day and it helped me. Then the final came, he did not tell us anything about it and gave us the wrong things to study, i failed it and passed the class with B. Totally B.S.
RUDE is the word for this guy, my friend recommended me to him because according to her he was a great guy but he is the defenition of a useless, we didn't use the book for anything and honestly he didn't teach! I should have taught this to myself. I don't know about previous semester but spring11'!
I suck at math and this class didn't make it better. I learned a little, he wasn't a horrible teacher but I think it's ridiculous that tests are 60% of the grade and there are only like 5 questions on the test, makes it impossible to pass. I was sure I'd fail but I did the extra credit practice exams and passed with a C. Online hw is easy though.
HE IS A VERY GOOD PROFESSOR. I LEARNED A LOT IN HIS CLASS.
I like his personalities, but not the way he teaching. You can't learn math from him. He doesn't know how to explain to make you understand. Not recommend take his class.
He does not care if you learn or not. He may love math, but has no business teaching it, especially the beginning courses. When I asked questions in class he got all flustered and annoyed.
GREAT GUY. IT WILL TEACH YOU STUFF THAT WILL HELP YOU IN ADVANCE MATH COURSES. ATTENDANCE N ATTENTION IS VERY IMPORTANT. HE COVER SECTION IN A DAY
During lectures, there are lots of examples, so you'll walk out of each class with some understanding. But he assigns HOURS worth of homework via MathLab everyother day. It definitely interferes with other class's work. P.S: Make sure u're on the right prof's page. Another teacher at the same school has the same surname and teaches similar classes.
The professor is really nice, but I didn't find him helpful at all.If you already understand algebra I'm sure you will be fine, but I thought the professor would understand that the reason students are in inter. algebra is because math is not easy for us.He doesn't know how to dumb down the math to help students understand.Avoid taking him(MAT1033)
Great/funny teacher; If you understand algebra he is easy, TAKE NOTES!! Make sure to write them down during lectures. He does a lot of examples and is always willing to help students who are willing to ask. Accent is a little are to come by but you will get used to it. He normally has a projector for the book so its not NEEDED. I really recommend
To be fair, Nguyen is an intellectual and fairly nice guy. However; his enthusiasm and ability to educate students is almost nonexistent. He asserted to giving the class fewer test questions (tougher grading) and online homework so that he has to do less work. Exam questions are made up and often only faintly resemble what you did on the homework.
Good guy, and a good professor. He does an overview of each section and the types of problems so that you understand them. Then he shows you how to do a couple problems. The rest is all MyMathLab, which is a life saver. The tests/quizzes all come from the math lab. Would recommend him, but you have to put the time and work into it or you won't pass
DONT TAKE HIM- He isn't a bad person but as a teacher- he stinks. He is unclear, only shows you the easy stuff then you get home to do HW and you're like what is this. Just stay away from him. I would get 90's on my Pretest and fail the ch. test. VCC needs to check this guy out... mathlab is part of this class.
I read his reviews before taking his class and was a little nervous. I am terrible in math but I ended up getting a B in this class. He is very nice and tries to dumb it down as much as he can. As long as you have the right calculator you will do fine!
everything is on math lab, homework is short and tests are the same as homework questions. not a lot of unnecessary work. he is easy, and really funny.
he is helpful but the way how he approches math is very confusing to us because us(students)did not have a degree in math therefore we dont know everything,we are still learning however he doesnt seems to get the memo yet..
I took him for Statistics. I am not a math person and was very worried. I ended up with an A. He is a great teacher. You need to go to every class and do all of the homework. The quizzes and tests are not all that hard if you are prepared from doing the homework. It is not an easy class but he does a grea job teaching it!
He's a decent professor. His lectures are pretty clear, but it takes some time to get used to his accent. The homework comes from MathLab. Overall, he's a nice guy. An easy A.
Not an easy subject to understand. This professor clearly presented the information in an organized way that made the homework and studying for tests easy. Great choice for me not being of much interest in this subject.
I'm the worst at math, but this guy made it bearable. The class is based on mystatlab, so make sure you do the hw, because almost all of the questions on the tests come straight from it. After the first exam, you are allowed a single sheet of paper "formula sheet" for the tests.
very clear and organized lecture. tests are short and based exactly on lecture examples. He teaches you the best way to learn math without being confusing. would definitely take him again.
Professor Nguyen is truly an amazing teacher. He is able to clearly and effectively communicate the material. He is fair- if you work hard, he takes notice; if you are disengaged, he notices that too. I can tell he genuinely cares about his students' success and is passionate about mathematics. I generally don't enjoy math, but this semester I did.
I do not recommend this professor!! He doesn't believe in multiple choice on homework or tests, he grades tough. I absolutely hated it and dreaded going because he doesn't help you and you just sit there in your confusion. the one and ONLY thing I liked was that he gives 2 points per class you show up to, but it wasn't even worth it.
I do not recommend if you have a hard time with math. This professor is hard to understand because of his accent and talks way to fast. His tests and homework are all online and no multiple choice.
Dont take if you are not good in math! Hes a very nice teacher, but his test are tough. No study guide, only online hw
He is hilarious. Expect A LOT of homework. 4 tests (If you do the homework and understand it you will pass them.) Final (if its higher than one of your test he will drop your lowest grade.) you just have to get used to his accent and the way he teaches. I passed with a B didn't try hard for the class.
everything is online. Tells you that you don't need to go to class. However if you want to understand the material go to class, you will get extra credit for it. Very nice and laid back, is willing to work with you should you need help. I'd take his class again. Class works well if taking other super hard and involved classes
Told us that the final would be just like the tests, final pretty much had nothing to do with our class
go to class! i dont know why many dropped but he is a GREAT professor. the final is very easy only missed half a question. his accent isnt bad at all. math is NOT my best subject and i passed. your final if higher than your lowest test score will replace it. focus on your hw and exams
Ok so here's the deal For his class it's crucial to do good from start His tests get progressively harder which is hard to make up ground on the bad grades later If you do take focus on his hw sections that are longest He has set schedule which he stays true to He's not too specific on what is going to be on tests, somewhat misleading
A LOT OF HOMEWORK EVERY WEEK AND A LOT OF QUIZZES AND THEN COME 4 TESTS THAT ARE DIFFERENT WHAT YOU LEARNED IN CLASS. HE GIVE YOU QUESTIONS IF YOU MADE A LITTLE MISTAKE HE IS NOT GOING TO GIVE POINTS. IM A STUDENT A'S GRADE BUT TAKING THIS CLASS YOUR GRADES IS DROPPED DOWN. DONT TAKE HIM! WATCH YOUR GPA!
He's a horrible professor. He's near impossible to understand, and jumps all over the place. He teaches off the book, so just read the book, and google for more info. Of course, with any math class, do your homework for practice. If you need a good professor to teach you, don't take him, you're better off self learning then having him teach you.
i would never recommend him. unless youre super good at math already, you will have a hard time passing his class. i took him for college algebra and recieved and F, took college algebra with another prof the following smester and recieved a B+. he doesnt do many example problems after teaching the lesson, and his tests are long.
This man is AWFUL. You can't understand him... he likes to spend a lot of time on "easy" topics but when it comes to the difficult stuff he rushes through all of it and hopes you can learn from the examples. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I received a C in this course and it dropped my GPA. Go with Carew if you need an excellent Stats teacher.
For the sake of your GPA do not take this professor, I am a straight A student who got a C in his class. He made the class incredibly tough for no reason, don't get me wrong it is a tough class regardless of the teacher but unless you are stellar at math do not take this professor.
1st couple tests were really hard because there were many questions that he never went over in class, it was just on the homework. There is a lot of hmwk on MML. But final was easy& he replaces the lowest test score with Final score. One point extra cred for attending which comes up to 30 points out of 1000. Also 10 points extra cred on each test.
I don't know why he had bad reviews. Just show up, do your hw and practice on MML, you will pass, I promise. Even though I didn't use book and didn't study seriously for the exams, I still got an A in his class. Ppl didn't pass because they didn't study at all. Dont expect he will teach you step by step like middle school. Would take him again.
RUN!!! Do not waste your money or your time. He rushes through everything because he spends to much time telling you about his gambling debt & if you have a question, forget it. He will make you feel stupid in front of the whole class. He is hard to understand & jumps all over the place making it hard to follow and put things together. JUST RUN!!
You want to learn math, take him. Otherwise take someone else.
Basic math class. Come to class, take good notes, and do the homework. There are multiple attempts for the homework and quizzes. You will pass if you put in the effort. Plus, everyday you come to class you get one point extra credit which brought my final grade from a C to a B. I would take him again for future math classes. Definitely recommend
Tests are mostly based on the homework and are pretty difficult. He prepares you for future math classes. Great at teaching material and helpful shortcuts.
The class is super easy, but the teacher is not that good. You just have to learn how to use your calculator for each chapter. He is hard to understand sometimes, and in the class he only explains two exercises, but when you go and do the homework, nothing is like what you see in class. Tests and quizzes are exactly like the homework.
He's pretty easy but his accent is thick so it took me a few weeks to fully understand what he's saying. One thing is he'll ask anyone if they have questions, then he'll get a little irritated when you ask. He gives you a point for every day you show up, so just go. Tests and quizzes are easy just know the material, and your calc is your bff here.
Nice guy but really hard to understand. If you don't understand he gets irritated and make you feel like you can't ask questions. I ended up withdrawing before I failed because I felt like I couldn't ask for help. Tests are hard and you get a point for showing up to class.
DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS COURSE with him. Unless you are already an expert at math, then DO NOT take it. He gives tons of homework and the tests are completely different.
Terrible. Pretty much teach yourself everything in the course. Lectures and expects you to know it and the tests are completely different. Grades test based off if you solve it the specific way he would solve it otherwise no credit.
DO NOT take this class. It is suppose to be a beginners college math course, but this teacher makes it almost impossible. Unless you are already an expert at math and can teach yourself, I would not recommend him to anyone.
Calculus 3!!!!!Dont not take him ... I literally studied all day everyday and I have a job .. if you have 0 responsibility and you can live doing just textbook problems and self taught homework take him ... his lectures are all over the place.
Dont take it ! Its so hard to understand is way of teacher he talks and talks and talks. Youre your not amazing at math dont do it
He's nice, genuinely a good man who wants ti be helpful but he's not very good at doing it. It hurts me to say, but he has some serious trouble getting his point across. He has a heavy accent which can confuse some people. Also prone to seemingly random off-topic rants. I'd be his friend, but not his student.
The only grades you received in this class is from homework and tests. I had to take an F when i took him. After retaking with a different professor i got an A. He's rude and makes you feel dumb if you ask a question. The class is very fast paced and he expects you to know everything. Get ready to teach yourself...
If you aren't already amazing at math and don't take the best notes known to man: DO NOT take this class. The main grades you get are from tests (that aren't multiple choice), and from the sporadically due homework... Seriously, if you are not 100% on top of the homework, you will wind up missing a bunch and ruining your grade... like I did...
The homework questions always seemed to be harder than the tests. So the tests were just as hard or easier than the homework problems! He also goes beyond the textbook in his lectures which makes the class interesting if you like math. It's part of his personality to be a bit condescending, but if you want a great professor, learn to deal with it.
You will live in the math center or youtube tutorials His explanations make no sense and gets mad if you ask question. Goes on long rants about western education randomly. Really condescending and tries to teach his class like everyone has a math degree. Gives a massive amount of homework that barely relates to test.
He's decent. Makes you earn your grade. Lots of hw. Test are all show your work. Teaches THINKING you completed college algebra or have a good foundation of it, so brush up on it. Does have a strong accent. STUDY & PRACTICE. Class got easier when I got the hang of his teaching and tests. Do-able A, just put the work in.
He is one of those professors who care about you learning the material, not so much passing. He teaches the super hard material that is optional to teach and gives homework way too close to test days. But, he is an amazing lecturer and if you show up determined to class you will pass. Also he will respond to questions up until like 2 A.M.
Not recommended if you don't have much time for studying and homework. There's A LOT to remember in this class and I took more notes from the online work than from the professor himself since he rushes through his lectures. There's also some stuff that he doesn't go over that's on the homework.
One of the hardest teachers Ive ever had. Im not good at math and his tests are NOTHING LIKE HOMEWORK.
he is really good at presenting the information required to understand the material, he also has students work on problems in class to provide them an opportunity to be helped by him and he also communicates well and answers questions well, he is really approachable and will not make you feel stupid for asking a question.
Professor Nguyen is very good at what he teaches. He tells you everything you need to know and even puts notes on canvas for you to follow if you miss a class. There is quite a lot of homework and you have to stay on top of it. Slack off and your grade will go down. Study as much as you can and practice, and youll pass the class. Tests are easy.
Worst prof I have ever had. I am a straight A student and have NEVER failed a class until this. I have pre-calculus and algebra honors background but he does not know how to teach. I literally sit in class and don't know what I learned by the time class is over. Do not recommend!
Just finished taking his final exam and wow! If you want a caring teacher that explains concepts clearly do not take this professor. This man is the toughest grader I have ever seen on top of the exams being so ridiculously hard. He will rant in class about off topic subjects and get mad when you dont understand something.
Professor Nguyen is one of the best professors I have ever had. Obviously, calc isn't the easiest topic, but he makes it as easy as he possibly can. The homework is online but practice from the book is highly recommended. There are weekly quizzes and he tries to give many many opportunities to earn extra credit. Work hard and you'll do great!!
The test werent like the homework at all so it was hard to do since Im not good at math that completely throws me off. Homework and quizzes are not worth much. The last 2 exams are done without a calculator which makes it even more tough.
I had Professor Nguyen for most of the semester, however he did leave us because of family circumstances. He is a very kind man, and he wants us to learn. I found his teaching style helpful but not the best. Although I wish he hadn't left us.
Took this class over the summer of 2020 and it's not an easy A unless math comes easy to you. Test are graded heavier than quizzes and quizzes are graded heavier than the homework assignments. There is a chance to get the best possible grade you can achieve. Mymathlab provides videos for the assignments and he also provides youtube videos to help.
His way of presenting the material was difficult for me to keep up with, even if I passed the exams in class after multiple sessions of tutoring and observing the lectures. His way of grading the homework is more weighted compared to other elements in the class, which led me to email him about why I failed because I was confused about the grading.
Very harsh and unreasonable.
Refuses to enter grades the entire semester and offers no help. Do not bother taking him.
He doesn't have a strong accent ,but he teaches really good, and he will go back over the lesson ,if you ask him. He is at West Campus, and i was in college algebra
One of the best, if not the best, math teachers I've had the pleasure of meeting. I've taken both his Calculus 2 and 3 classes. Semester consists of 2 quizzes followed by a test of the 2, 3, or 4 sections covered the previous weeks depending on section length and which semester you take the class (avoid summer unless it's your second attempt).
Never. Again. A pop quiz before every test and 45 question homework assignments with part A to D.
So rude
Do not waste your time with this professor just rude and unforgiving and makes things very unprofessional and classwork is not worth much and test are a whopping 70% of your grade. Find better options and your time.
Teaches very well
Cares about students and about the subject. You will need to put in the work. If you don't study you will not pass.
I was hesitant to take this class due to the poor comments. However, I didn't experience any of these things. Dr. Nguyen was a great professor for Algebra. He taught in a manner to prime you for more rigorous math courses. Eager to answer questions and help without judgement. Provided extra credit for attendance and on exams. Highly recommend.
Professor G is a great math teacher. Don't listen to the other reviews. Yes, points only come from quizzes and tests, but as long as you study and practice, they are easy. In total, there are 8 quizzes and 4 tests, including the final, which is cumulative. If you truly want to learn and understand math Professor G is the way to go.
I had struggled through calculus many times before taking his class. He made it simple and easy to understand but studying is still necessary. No graded hw, it is test and quiz heavy but you get formula sheets and have a lot of extra credit opportunities. All around, an amazing professor. I will continue taking him for my future math classes.
George is really not as bad as his reviews say. He is very fast paced, and honestly if you got to a calc class it is expected that you know your basic math. The textbook can be found online, which is where he tells you to do your homework. HW is not mandatory but if you don't do it you won't pass, and his tests are 99% based on it, which is fair.
This is my favorite calculus teacher. He goes above and beyond to explain everything and makes his expectations crystal clear. While homework is not mandatory, the quizzes and tests are very similar to the homework. 100% the greatest calc teacher I've ever had.
Prof Nguyen is amazing. I'm in MAC2313 and have taken him for all of my calc classes. He's the only teacher who makes learning calculus easy. Obviously, you still have to put in the work but he makes the concepts and steps easy to understand. You get EC for attendance and he replaces your lowest grade with your final exam. Amazing professor.
You're only graded on quizzes/exams, but attendance counts as extra credit and each quiz has an automatic 5 point curve (out of 25 instead of 30 points). He has lecture days and "exercise days" where he goes over homework problems. Homework isn't graded, but it's beneficial as some of the material can be hard and you'll need practice.
