Very good if you have trouble wit h Algebra. But kinda boring
not helpful at all...sooo boring..and his jokes are corny
Easy problems but one wrong is a B! What the f***?!
Good teacher, Funny Guy. Dont mind going to his class. Study notes, cause thats what he puts on his tests.
really really easy class just know the material he went over in class. only problem is...HE NEVER SHOWED FOR THE FINAL EXAM!
Good teacher
George Popel was probably one of the best teachers I had at Rutgers. He is very straightforward, explains the information very well, and only tests you on what he teaches. Just know how to do the problems he assigns in the syllabus and you'll get an A
Easy...Just follow him in class and anyone can get a B or A
Helpful if you go to office hours..if you try to ask a question in class he'll probably make a lame joke and then call you his buddy. If you really have a problem with the class, he will go out of his way for you.
he's good.. very easy.. very clear.. if you go to lectures.. you'll ace the class
best teacher at rutgers definitely take him He's easy and straightforward
He is absolutely one of the greatest profs., at rutgers, mostly he understands that people in Math for Lib Arts studnets don't really care, and more importantly know nothing-- he teaches math so that those of us with trouble adding can understand.
Popel may be goofy and call everyone his buddy, but his method of teaching is very helpful. Not just formulas, he really makes you learn what you're doing. Easy A or B with an awesome curve at the end.
one of the only teachers that actually teaches at rutgers. uses good examples to make the material clear. 3 exams and optional homework. makes a bigger lecture class seem like theres not that many people and really helps you understand it
He's such an easy teacher, the material is easy, the book is useless as long as u go to his class, follow him through class and understand everything, easy A
He is a pretty good teacher, funny as hell if you like sarcasm. I wouldn't call him easy at all. You defiinitely need to follow up lecture material with the HW, so you can see the variations in the problems..go to class you should pass
liked him. if you go to class you will do well. very sarastic and sometimes mumbles
The class is hard!!! but, he is mad funny.. makes fun of people and cracks jokes... he even tells us how we can join the army after failing calc for the 6th time~jerk! anyway-at least he speaks english.
Funny teacher, love the jokes! But the class is mad hard...I go to class and recitation, but if you don't study your butt off, forget it. Tests are hard, and so is class.
Hardest class ever - nice guy, maybe too nice, cuz he does more joking than teaching. I ended up failing, and have to take it over again, which sucks a**.
A really cool guy and one of the best teachers around you'll be lucky to have him.
really nice, cool older man.. doesn't take attendance, or collect homework, so you have to have great self-discipline. calc classes were ridiculous - joked 1/2 the time, plus unclear on when we'd have quizzes in Rec... you need to have good motivation or natural math smarts to succeed in his classes
great professor, always willing to help. cant go wrong with popel
Amazing teacher! Makes Calc I understandable! Wants his students to do well! Helps students out in any way possible! Highly Recommended!
This guy is so easy. He is pretty unclear about what exactly you need to know but when the exams come around they are so easy an eighth grader could do it. He usually lets class out early on fridays and spends as much time as you want on each problem/chapter regardless of syllabus.
This class was very easy. His tests are very easy too. A very funny guy, jokes in class all the time, which makes the class interesting. He is nice but not really willing to help out of class. Will take class with him again if I get a chance.
I had AP stat before, and didn't understand much then, Popel made Stat easy and even if I dare say, fun. Great guy. great sense of humor. He gets ticked when stupid people as stupid questions, and I don't blame him. GGREEEATTT TEACHER! knows his stuff and knows how to make us understand it. BUT FREAKIN PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS!!
Popel is really funny and makes statistics easy. he first explains the material in terms people who are not necessarily good in math can understand and only after that he gives you the formulas. it makes learining much easier for those who are intimidated by numbers and mathematical stuff in general. a great professor!
Nice guy who makes the class interesting. Likes to make jokes, which keeps people interested in the material. He explains everything well and is willing to go over things multiple times if you don't understand something. The tests weren't hard and he basically told you exactly what was going to be on it the day before in class.
very good professor, take stats with him, clear and concise, only teaches you want you need to know, exams are pretty simple, funny guy, class wasn't boring, and it usually ended early
This class is amazing. This guy can teach. Very clear. Answers any questions you have in class. If you are confused by him, I feel bad for you. He jokes around a lot in class, picks fun at a couple kids, but in good fun. 3 exams total. I think I got a B plus overall. If you can, request him as a professor, trust me.
The man is brilliant. we ran out of lecture material before thanksgiving because he teaches it soooooo well. he doesn't use the formulas from the book, although you can still use them and get by with ease. his lectures are great. no cheap tricks on the exam everything that appears was taught in lecture.
Funny guy. Jokes around a lot while still teaching. Teaches class by doing example problems on the board. I thought class was boring, so I never went. Nevertheless, I did good by studying the book. Two midterms non-cumulative, final is cumulative. He gives you tables, and you can write notes and formulas on tables and use for exam. He curves
Popel is the man. Great teacher, explains material in a clear and practical manner. Exams are not hard if you have been going to class and have good notes. Also a hilarious guy, you don't mind going to class because you never know what ridiculous thing he'll say next. Take him.
So easy!!! There were 3 exams my scores were 100, 100, 97. If you go to class it is the easiest class in the world. He doesnt force you to learn formulas. learn his way of doing things and it will make things much easier. if you don't go to class you are screwed
I wouldn't say this class is "so easy," if you have no prior knowledge of stats, which i didn't. But GO TO CLASS! Tests are pretty easy if you understand what he did in lecture, he barely follows the book at all, just provides problems for additional practice. Just study your notes, those will basically be the problems on the exams.
You can't understand a word he says. I never went because all he does is mumble. However, his exams weren't bad. Just read the chapters and know how to do ALL the practice problems and you'll get an A. I went to class maybe 10 times all semester and pulled off an A
I wouldn't say he mumbles everything- just the answers, which is annoying lol. However, everything else is great- DO go to class, cause then you don't need the book at all. Tests are problems he did in class, maybe just diff numbers. Nice curve at the end, and very little material for a math class, so you don't have a lot to worry about.
im in love!!! he was great when i went to class of course. The material he teaches is easy but you MUST go to class trust me going to class is definitely better than the book. I messed up on my first exam but then noticed how easy it was. Just go to class and enjoy his hilarious comments. I think his crazy jokes makes him a super hot professor!!!!
AWESOME PROF! i love him. he's so funny, keeps a dry subject interesting. explains stat better than any prof i've had. makes it easy and simple to understand! exams are VERY BASIC. just go to class. my friend never went to class and b*tched about her grade. the book you use is really good for reviewing for exams.
Popel is the man! He's hilarious. I do acknowledge his mumbling problem, but it's not too bad. Teaches everything through examples which are really helpful in learning the topics and does it in ways easier than what they teach in the textbook. Go to class, copy down the examples then try to apply them to the suggested problems and you'll do fine.
You don't have to go to class, but you save time by going. He makes you understand the material a lot better. He is good at teaching, and his humor makes the class interesting and worth going to.
Went to first 1/3 of class and got an 87% on test1. Stopped going 2nd 1/3 and got a 30%. Started going again and got a 'C' in the class overall. Lesson here? Popel is MUCH better then the book and he keeps class interesting with jokes. Sit in the front if you have a hard time hearing though...he's not loud.
best stats teacher, easy A
He is probably the best professor at Rutgers. He's not only entertaining and witty, but he's a sweet man. Teaching habits are great- explains everything very well- and he will help you if you need help. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM. Dont be scared if you dont do well on the exams- show up in class and make sure he knows youre trying- youll get a C.
BEST STAT PROFESSOR!! He makes math so funny and makes it interesting to come to class. I suck at math but I did really well in this class just because he makes it so easy to understand. Totally recommend him!
Don't listen to this guy here. Easy enjoyable class, and hes got a good sense of humor. The material isn't hard whatsoever just do the homeworks and come to class. For each test I'd redo all the HW problems(1-2 hours worth of work) A's on first two tests. People it isnt that hard just put in those few hours before a test..recommended
The class is easy but there's a trap. Don't get overcocky a think the test will be a B.S.-easy-A. It's not. Go to each lecture and find out the notes the easy way, or don't go to class and read the verbose and overly complicated textbook as a poor alternative. Do practice problems before the test. He's a funny, great guy; easy C/B, somewhat easy A.
Problems are all over the board and each step isn't explained just the final answer to the problem is given and you have no idea how to get it. The book for the class is even worse. If you want to pass buy the Barron's AP Statistics book 3rd edition 2007 and google the stattrek ---you'll get an A - B+ in the class.
Best. Ever. His methods are SO MUCH EASIER than the ones I've learned in previous stat classes and definitely a lot easier to follow than the crap you find the textbook. His exams are extremely straightforward. Two exams and a final. You're allowed a cheat sheet on the final. Can it get any easier? He's also extremely funny and so nice! Love him!
can anyone tell me how he gives out grades... I have an 81 average on 2 tests and the class median is 64...I just took my final for statsbus
He's a fantastic professor.
Not a an easy class AT ALL. Hard exam, bad explanations, and by far the WORST stat book... work you ass of and hope for a B. The only good thing is that there is a curve at the end
he's a great professor! really funny, and makes stats easy to understand!
Make sure you go to class!!! All of his exam questions are like ones that he goes over in class. His first two exams were fair, and the final was easy. He's really funny, and if you have any questions he's helpful. I would def. take him again.
He's a good professor. He likes talk and joke a lot but he really teaches you a way 100 times easier than the book. Sometimes his class drags and you find you only did one problem in an hour but its worth it. Go to class, pay attention and youll get an A
While this professor is funny, DO NOT take him if you have never taken statistics. He jumps back and forth between topics, lets class out at least an hour early and makes people feel stupid for not understanding the material. **If you really want to understand stats (not just fulfilling a requirement), do not take this guy.
This guy is the man. He makes stats as easy and simple as possible. Exams are cake and directly from notes. If you go to class and aren't terrible at math its an easy A. The man is hilarious always tells jokes in class and usually lets you out early. Anyone that needs to take stats should definitely take him
Extremly easy class. Highly recommend
Very enthusiastic about Statistics and generated interest for the subject. He teaches you the concepts/bigger picture and tries to relate problems to real world and things pertinent to your life/academic major. Not the most difficult class but you MUST go to class, take notes, redo all his examples. If you don't, exams are hard. Popel is great!
You don't have to go to class just read the book and it's an easy A
EASY A JUST GO TO LECTURE! His exams are exactly from the problems he does in lecture. He actually wants you to understand stats, instead of using a giant formula sheet. He is the funniest prof at Rutgers, you always get out of class early and class goes by fast. TAKE HIM FOR STAT 285 AND GO TO LECTURE U WILL HET AN A!
hes a great professor. no need for the textbook because his exams are straight from lecture.. attendance isnt mandatory but i recommend it if you want to pass the class.. got low Bs on both exams and must have done well on the final cus i got an A in the class. hes funny and nice.. sit in the front and dont buy the book
BEST PROFESSOR at RUTGERS!!! makes attending stats class tolerable. He has good humor and manages to teach material in a timely manner. GO TO CLASS and do not buy text book. Or don't go to class and try to teach yourself with a textbook that is horrible. TAKE HIM!!!
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Very clear on what's on the exam. It is still tough because it's stats but it is still the best way to learn it. Very sweet and very understanding
his questions aren't clear on the exams and the way he presents the material is sloppy .. with no effort u can get a b
very funny professor. makes a 3 hour lecture tolerable by letting students out early and keeping the class entertained with jokes. picks on students and tells them to understand the concept rather than memorizing a problem. exams were right from lecture and homework problems.gave take home problems and even did a problem from the final with class.
Take him!!! the class is really easy, in the first exam u have a take home question, in the second u can ommit a question and in the third he did one of the questions for us! he tells what is going to be on the exam and what's not, problems are very similar to in class problems. just don't ask dumb questions, he'll make fun of u. must go to class!!
he is all over the place. go to class because thats all there is. he doesn't have a class website, powerpoints, or practice exams. short of reading the overly verbose book and teaching yourself, there is no way to learn and practice outside of the classroom. There are only three points and no other way to earn points. so dont mess up.
Had him for Statistics, very entertaining funny guy, sit in the front cuz he speaks softly, notes are a bit messy but mostly standard stuff, if you practice some problems from the book and study his notes you'll be fine. I like his method of making you understand concepts and not memorize formulas.
I took this class with a prior hatred to statistics. This professor made the class really funny and I actually learned statistics and got an A! Attendance is not mandatory because it doesn't count toward your grade but you have to go!! 3 exams only so study!!
Took for Stat I. He's a funny guy and always complains about how bad the book is. There are 3 exams, he does a review before, and a review of the exam after. He's very clear and always answers questions. If you're taking stats, he's the best one at rutgers.
One of the best professors I've had at Rutgers. He makes sure you understand the concepts and ideas behind the questions, not just the formula. Grading is lenient to say the least, and he's a pretty funny guy. You'll learn a lot from him, just make sure you sit up front since he's kinda hard to hear.
Take it. Go to class. Practice. Get an A. Great guy, great professor. Lectures are both informative and entertaining. Unlike most, he isn't just a walking textbook. Truly the best Rutgers has to offer.
Intro Stat Bus. He makes the material very simple and easy to understand. He uses practical examples to help comprehension. Attendance isn't mandatory. Only 3 exams, but they are easy. He's a cool, laid back dude with a great sense of humor. Nice guy. Doesn't usually take the whole 1hr 20m. Totally recommended.
i didn't go to class at first and then i did very poorly on the first exam, aka i failed, i debated on dropping the course. the second exam i got an A and i ended the course with a B+. do not buy the textbook it is worthless for his teaching, go to class, write down the problems he does in class and study those and you'll get an A. i recommend him
He's a great, funny guy. He wants you to learn and to have fun doing it. His class is pretty easy, exams are exactly like the notes, so if you can do the problems he does in class, you'll do fine. Didn't use the textbook at all. Great professor and great guy.
Popel make the content easy to understand. Go to class because his lectures are much clearer and more concise than the textbook. Study the material and it should be pretty straight forward.
He is hilarious and interjects lecture with historical facts or politics and it gives a nice break. He teaches you exactly what he tests you on. Going to class is worth it because his notes are better than the book. I'm going to be upset when this class ends!
Pop is the man. Go to class, take good notes, AND STUDY THOSE NOTES. disregard the book, its confusing and unnecessary. I did beyond awful on the first exam killed the second one and a decent final and got a B. Minimal effort for a B.
Lectures are very clear-cut and straightforward. He also has a comical side to him making lectures a lot more fun. Just study lecture notes and its an easy B.
If you don't mind getting a mediocre grade, then take his class. There's not much opportunity to do well since he provides absolutely zero course structure. Even if you want to work hard and get a good grade, it doesn't matter. You just have to hope you understand everything from the lectures, and keep your fingers crossed during the exam.
Neither homework nor attendance is mandatory, but if you want to get at least a B in the class, I would suggest showing up and doing some problems. He makes jokes during class which will make you wanna come to class. First midterm was kind of difficult, but the second one was a joke. He knows how to make the concepts really simple.
If you have to take stats, totally take it with him. Make sure you go to every class and take good notes. What he teaches in class is what you get tested on. He doesn't try to trick you and he genuinely cares. Just put some effort and you can easily get an A, I studied the day of the exam or the night before and got an A.
He is a great professor, lectures are very laid back, he does problems and expects you to know them on the exam. First midterm was super easy, second was a bit harder and the final was fine. Don't buy the textbook because all of the exam problems come straight from lecture so make sure to attend lecture even tho participation isn't necessary.
He's a nice guy and tries to interact with students. A few of his jokes are a little on edge so you might not like him if you're easily offended. Overall, pretty easy to pass and a decent class.
Funniest professor at Rutgers I've ever had. He's very sweet and incredibly understanding. However, he does not give the best notes. I had to rely on the textbook.
Popel was a good stat professor. Exams are exactly like class, you really don't need the book if you go to class and take his notes because his methods are easier than the book. No homework. He's so funny and doesn't care if his jokes offend you. He's a really nice guy and wants you to do well. Definitely take with him!
Super easy and straightforward if you work through the hw, but he does very little teaching, maybe one problem a class. we always got out early and it was basically one big joke, everyone on their phones etc. Class is not interactive at all and he attempts to wake people up with strange jokes, but no one really reacts.
popel is the man i swear. he's insanely articulate in what he wants (my entire class didn't shut up, no wonder some people couldn't hear him). he's hilarious and explains problems in a simpler way than the textbook. the "one problem a lecture" argument is kind of moot when every single problem he does in lecture ends up on the exam
He was an amazing professor. I only had him for a little before we got a new one and I definitely miss him. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand. He gets right to the point and shows the easiest and fastest way to get the answer. Take him for Stats!!!! You just have to show up for class and you will be fine.
He is an amazing professor. Definitely take him for any statistics course! Just go to lecture and take good notes. He is absolutely hilarious and a very entertaining professor. Exams are straightforward they are exactly like the problems/examples he does in class so just study those for the exams. His teaching is very clear.
Awful. I learned on my own from yt videos and doing txtbk work, A on all exams. In class he goes through problems on the board and that's it. He mumbles half the time, makes mistakes on the board and has bad hearing. Idk why he's rated so high here, check the middlesex reviews. If this is considered good, I feel bad for the math department.
Do not take this class, he is not helpful at all.
Probably the worst teacher I have had at Rutgers yet, and I have had some bad teachers. Mumbles during lectures, forgets to teach topics, if you ask a question he'll literally make fun of you, and he constantly says it's an easy course when our class averages have been a 70 an a 60. I would personally avoid him at all costs.
He honestly doesnt even teach, I didnt learn anything in class. Homework is optional. He never explains what hes doing on the board or introduces new topics just goes on and on.. AVOID!!!
