I can't believe no one has rated him yet.. He's so great! A little hard to understand sometimes with his accent, but it was the second time I took a Biology course and I actually WASN'T falling asleep! Great teacher, sometimes he likes to be in a bad mood, but other than that, extremely helpful and a great teacher! [Not as cute as his son tho!]

if you just go to class everyday and study your notes you'll pass and you will have a understanding of bio. he is a great teacher
Dr. Shahla is such an amazing professor. If you are a serious student you will love this class like I did. If you're not you're going to rub him the wrong way, and trust me he gets mad. He was super nice to me and I even asked him to adopt me. Microbiology was lots of fun but it was also lots of work and studying.
Dr. Shahla is an AMAZING teacher. Take notes, the test are based directly off of them. He explains things very clearly and really makes class fun. Pay attention in class, he will get upset if you're on your cell phone. Awesome teacher who made Biology incredibly easy to understand.
Awesome instructor. Loved him. Had an accident (totally my fault....WEAR GOGGLES!!!!!) he was was so concerned on my behalf. Would take him again for other courses. Highly recommend him as an instructor especially during the summer. May be a little hard to get into his classes, due to high demand.
I struggled in this class, the teacher is not very clear and tests are hard to study for due to poor lecture.
Very helpful, pasionate about his work, but strong accent!!
I love his instruction which makes me clear about the subject. He explains well some difficult concepts into simple and organiged, so I can study fast and easy. I am so glad that I am taking his class. I think he is the best Bio professor!
Most excellent teacher, hard accent, very passionate, and helpful. If you are a serious student take him. You will not regret.
One word. . . Awesome!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! Shahla is amazing for microbiology. He explains everything perfectly with good examples. His tests are based strictly off of notes, but reading the textbook it very helpful! Don't miss class, or it will be difficult for tests and lab. My favorite teacher at AVC, hand down!
Dr. S is one of the top teachers of my life (and that's a lot) He totally wants his students to learn and does all he can to accomplish this.
I love Dr. Shahla! He's so passionate about his work and is very caring. Watch out though, because he does NOT like when people are interupting his lecture, so cell phones are a NO! Also if you talk to your friends too much in lecture, he'll separate you. Other than that, great teacher, you'll learn from him.
Take him! He is probably one of the best bio professors at this school. Material is kind of hard to comprehend, but read the book and study his notes and you should pass the class. Good luck!
Online class, was quite simple. He gives you everything you need to know in powerpoints and animations. Then gives a study guide, which is everything on the test. Also reviews before the test, which is very helpful. Only bad thing is your only graded on tests but you get to drop one. Plan to take him again for Micro, I recommend him over some other
Really nice guy, but doesn't put up with ill prepared students. Intense during lecture, but pretty laid back during lab. Very interested in what he does and he shows it in his teaching- very passionate. Great instructor and only wants the best from his students. Highly recommended.
pretty easy class, just do the work and study a little and its an easy B. Mr. Shala can be a little rude at times but he means well.
good good good teacher. he has an accent but its not that hard to understand him, especially after you get used to it. hes always smiling and happy, he gets so excited teaching bio. hes very clear on explaining things.
I don't know why everyone says he is so great. I thought he was completely un-organized and hard to follow in lecture. I passed anatomy and physiology with flying colors and when I took this class I barely got a C. Take someone else.
The best BIO teacher @ AVC. He makes it so easy to understand. Pay attention and take notes..then study those notes. Don't bother with the textbook, never opened it.
Dr. Shahla is a wonderful teacher who really wants his students to succeed. DON'T buy the textbook. He made it seem necessary but I NEVER needed it, save all that money for something else!
I took his lecture 101 online and omg I couldnt believe i passed with a C. He curves a lot, I got bad grades on all my tests and a C in lab but somehow I ended up passing with a C. Highly recommend him! Take him if you want to pass. Plus hes really sweet :)
Took his online class...I think I passed the first two tests and did really bad on the last two! But I got I think an A- in the lab so he combined it all and gave me a B!! I swear I prayed that I would pass with a C-! Anyway everything you need is online, don't need the book...he's there to help whenever u need..he has a strong accent but very nice
Took his online class. Test are tough but his grading scale is more than fair! You'll love it. Gives everything you need online on his websites, along with animations. Has a strong accent, but it's manageable. Very kind man. Definitely recommend him.
he is the best teacher for biology lecture. his test are kind of hard but he give u a study guide to study and the test is the same as the study guide. he is very strict in class but just put attention and copy all the notes.
Dr. Shalah is an excellent teacher. He demands respect and for u to be in class ON TIME. If u have problems let him know in advance and he may allow an exception. Test is based purely on his lecture notes. His labs are brilliant and interesting. He will make sure your streaks and excresises meet his standards to pass the class. I love his class
His class is tough but very passible. He grades on a curve as well. His lab finals are passable as long as you paid attention to his notes. 48 people in the class at the end of final there was 40. His lecture are based purely off notes and he teaches the labs in a way that is fascinating. Attendance and respect Mandatory. highly Reccommend
He's my favorite professor at AVC. He's very helpful and does everything he can to make sure you understand. His test are based off the notes in lecture and in lab. Highly recommend taking him!
At first, I hated this guy. He's somewhat temperamental under certain circumstances. The thing is that he teaches well, and you'll learn everything you need to from his lectures; the book is unnecessary. If you take him, you'll see white-board markers used in many analogies to explain different things. Also, he pronounces "nucleus" funny.
Awesome teacher. Really cares about his students. Will not tolerate goofing off. Pay attention and follow instructions exactly and you will be good. The Unknown experiment seems intimidating but its actually fun and he walks you through it. Take him!
he is a really good teacher u need to go to every class and take notes no need for the book and you will pass he really cares about his bio. 204 and is so willing to teach u all of it
Love this teacher, he makes everything crystal clear and his tests are super easy. He makes a study guide of all the points on the test which is a guaranteed A. I recommend taking him and I plan to take him again for BIO204
Without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. He explains everything perfectly to where anyone can understand even the hardest things. Only teaches you what you have to know and all tests were multiple choice. I wish all my teachers taught they way George Shahla teaches!
he is a wonderful teacher he is easy he explains everytrhing and he wants you to pass. he know his stuff and is cool. i personally ated that he talked so much. i was done with my lab reports while he was still explaning them. easy class and its cool .
HE LOVES MICROBIOLOGY AND BY THE END YOU WILL LOVE IT TOO! SUCH A GREAT TEACHER, PUT THE WORK IN AND YOU WILL LOVE THIS CLASS.
You can tell this guy loves Biology! I know his forte is Microbio (hopefully I can take microbio with him!) and he's really enthusiastic when it comes into teaching. A little bit dull sometimes but he helps students a lot and WANTS you to give your best and pass the class. One of the best professors in AVC along with Vento
a good teacher he will help u pass the class and understand what is going on in class
BEST TEACHER EVER!! HE GRADES ON A CURVE AND DROPS THE LOWEST SCORE..
great teacher!! gives you study guides before the test and is very helpful. He loves biology and loves his classes. He grades on a curve:)
He makes biology understandable and explains it very simply which is great for someone just beginning in biology. Enjoyed listening to his lectures and easy to take notes. Pleasant voice even with the accent.
He can be rude and sometimes hard to understand. Often many of us would compare notes(he doesn't write everything on PP, but you need all of it) and we would have different information. His test questions were always tricky.Has this odd thing about not letting you see your test which is really frustrating after working your butt off& getting a D
He has an accent which at times was difficult to follow. What I didn't like about his tests was that there were fill in the blank questions so u have to study word per word from your notes. Other then that, he teaches everything you need to know.
Mr. Shahla was a good teacher. I really enjoyed the class overall. He takes the time to explain everything you need and he welcomes you to ask questions. You have to take notes and study what is being taught, just like other classes and you will do well. He is very fair and will try to help where he can.
Acts like he is mean but he is actually really nice and helps you out a lot with your final grade.
YOU NEED THE BOOK!.. The notes arent enough. Trust mee.. Thats the only way i passed
Wonderful instructor. I learned a lot from him. One of my all time favorites. I miss his class, he was good to us.
I highly recommend taking his course. He has an accent but it's not too bad. All of his exams were multiple choice, and you need a scantron. He gives out a study guide which contains 90% of what will be on the exam. Just take notes in class and go over them a couple days before the exam, as well as the guide, and you'll pass. He's nice, too.
Dr.Shahla is by far the best professor I have taken at AVC. His class is easy and fun. He seems intimidating at first but he's really nice and will go out of his way to help you! Microbiology is really easy if you stay focused and study well. I highly recommend him!!
Extremely hard to understand. Has an accent and a lisp. Does not like repeating anything if you ask. He gets resentful. Sometimes he is very nice and sometimes he is irratated. Not sure why everyone speaks highly of him! How can you learn if you cannot understand him?
I love this man hes a sweetheart amazing prof. His class has made me fall in love with bio. Via flash cards you can get an A. This class you have to study hard. Tons of info a lot of powerpoints drawing and note taking. Cant wait to take this prof. for micro bio. Best part he simplify everything making it ideal for being new to bio. Take his class
There were 4 tests(multiple choice and essay)Two unknown bacteria and a short report on what tests were run. He's very strict and can be short with you. I liked him, but if you have problems with accents he may not be for you! I do recommend him, but dont be lazy =)
Shahla can be nice one day and really mean the next. Dont chew gum, laugh, drink water, use your phone, always bring your labcoat or he will put you on blast! I passed his lab class with an A.
Follow all his lab rules and he's great. Break one, prepare yourself. Class was enjoyable, especially the unknown project. Only 4 tests, unknown project and lab participation count for your grade. He will help you at the end of the semester! AKA there's a curve! Don't miss class tho. Book is not needed. Just study your notes taken from lecture.
I love Prof. Shahla. His class is pretty easy all you have to do is study the notes and the study guides to pass his tests. I've never used the book in this class and I've gotten an A. He does have an accent but you will get used to it.
Dr. Shahla is an amazing professor who is passionate about biology and has made a valuable contribution to this community and AVC. He presents biology in a way that a lay person can understand. Come to class, be serious and studious, take good notes and you will do fine. He does not tolerate immaturity or disrespect.
He's a good instructor willing to help you at anytime; great notes That are exact to the exams and quizzes the lab was awesome! ??
I took Dr. Shahla for Intersession 2014 and he is awesome! His lectures are GREAT! Tests, quizzes, and lab practicals were challenging. My advice: take great notes and review his test study guide thoroughly. He is very professional and curteous and helps you succeed. Study a lot! If you try you will pass. FYI:The book was hardly used.
Dr. Shahla is the best Biology professor at AVC, I took the class with another professor and failed, but retook it with Shahla and easily got an A. He is so helpful and willing to repeat anything you ask, even though there is no need. If you pay attention you can understand him even with his accent.
He was great his lectures were informative and didn't even really need the book his test were decent multiple choice and he was very respectful with the students and gave no homework and told you when important exam dates were and some info about the labs and was always open to having conference with his students id recommend him.
TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! Do not take this professor unless hes your absolute last choice. This man is very rude and unhelpful!
I took his online class. It's pretty easy he grades on a curve. His lectures are some what clear and helpful for the 4 test he has to take. He drops your lowest test score. DO NOT EMAIL him regarding your grade or which textbook you need for the class. He will not reply! The homework he post online is for you to study you don't need to turn it in.
mr. shahla care about his students grades, he allows people to come in late but sometimes will call you out on it, doesn't play with cellphone use during class. tests correspond directly to his lectures, if you legit study his lecture notes you'll get an A or a B easy on the test. doesn't give any homework.
I totally loved this professor!! He gives powerpoint lectures so take notes! He stops at the end of the lecture and sort of reviews with you! He has 4 big test but he gives you a study guide like a week before. I didn't care for Bio, but he definitely made it worth it. He is a wonderful teacher and truth be told, id take him again. :)
Never opened the book. He has power points and his lectures are clear. He goes over the information before each test and gives you study guide a week before each test. If you take good notes and highlight the parts he says are VI (very important) than you will do fine. He expects you to pay attention while you are in class or he tells you to leave.
Dr. Shahla is a great instructor, however his lecture exams are really long and hard, most of them are multiple choice. you have to do an easy 10 pgs paper for an A. He is really strict and like his students to do what he is assigning. He likes when you ask questions but during lab or after lab. Get ready to learn how to wash your hands.
Had him for intersession and so glad I did. He made everything a lot more easier to understand and he helps ALOT for the exams and gives a study guide. He says his intersession always has a higher passing rate then other semesters so don't panic if you take him for intersession.
I took this class in the summer. There were 4 exams, most of which were multiple choice (don't let the mc fool you, it was still hard). The book isn't needed. Take great notes and study them. The first 2 weeks of lab was awful but he's just preping you. PAY ATTENTION! The unknowns were a breeze and we only had to write a 3 page paper.
He is a great professor who truly cares about his students and will tell you how you can improve your work to pass his class. His tests are tough but if you put a lot of studying in, the class will be enjoyable and fun. He is more than happy to help you with any questions you may have, just stay focused and study hard.
Absolutely loved this teacher . You definitely have to take good notes and pay attention but your in college now and should do that anyway. Gives clear notes and tells you what will be on the test. Will even give a study guide the week before tests. However no homework means all your grade depends on how well you do on the test. Would take again
Microbiology is hard, but getting along with this professor is even harder. He's exceptionally unkind. He's a tough grader and doesn't offer any feedback. He is very strict about rules, which is understandable with this course. Mandatory attendance. Hardly answers emails. Only positive: I spent $0.
Hardest teacher I have taken yet, in terms of achieving an A. he gives a study guide for his 5 exams, but try not to follow only it. study everything as not everything on the test is in the guide. 0 homeowork in lecture, purely 5 tests. He teaches the material very well but his tests are designed to seem as though any answer can be the right one.
Shahla is a tough professor, took him bio101 and thought he was awesome, but in bio204 my opinion changed. He can be grumpy, and 'secretly' scolds you in lab but the whole class can hear him, he pretty much puts you on blast and everyone knows your business. If you have questions he will NOT help you. Go to tutoring to get help.
You are on your own for this class unless you make friends and create a good study group or go the learning center. Tests are tough. You should read labs before you enter the lab room, you do not want to make any mistakes there. If you have questions forget asking him, he will be rude, take points away, or look at you like you did something bad.
Dr. Shahla is a great professor. The material is tough but he explains it well. Our grade is based on 4 exams and a lab final project. He seems grumpy, but he's not. He was always willing to answer my questions. It's easier to ask questions during lab than lecture. I enjoyed this class and this professor. I would definately take him again.
I took this class over summer. The labs were especially fun. A good time to ask questions is usually in lab or after lecture. There were 4 tests in lecture(final included) mostly based on the notes from class. If you don't talk in class, bring lab materials, and study the notes you'll do great. He's very nice as long as you follow his simple rules.
I took Dr. Shahla during summer for microbiology and i can honestly say he is the best science professor i ever had. He explains everything very well and even adds humor into his lectures. you have to attend class and keep up with notes.
This class isn't difficult if you had already taken physiology and anatomy. But an A is still possible if you hadn't taken it and have good study habits. He loves this area of biology and breaks the information down in ways easy to understand. The labs are the most interesting biology lab you will ever take. I would take him again in a heartbeat!
He's an amazing professor his lectures are very clear and breaks down everything and his labs and super fun if you follow his simple instructions he's a great person overall.
Dr. Shahla was an amazing prof! Microbio is hard but he makes it as simple as possible. 4 test all noncumulative, and a project that is very easy if you follow instructions. Lab was very fun, read labs before coming. Morning section lab taught by prof, evening section by someone else. Just make sure to follow his rules and wash yr hands!
His Lectures were okay and he explains well, but his test questions were nothing like his lectures. The average for the 4 tests were in the 70's low 60's, His test were hard. Also it was scary to ask a question in class because he would make you feel dumb for asking and put you on blast and at the end,he wouldn't answer your question.
Bio101 online. This class was super easy, you only show up the first day and for each exam day. Scantron exams, study guides given. Done. Shahla is helpful and nice. If you're in the online class, you teach yourself (not rocket science). Once you're enrolled, make sure to check the email he sends before the first day of class.
Not very approachable. Says he's open to all questions n humiliates u afterward. Lots of lecture notes 2 always reviews. 500 poss points 4 tests worth 100pts each, 50pts lab/quizzes n 50pts paper. FYI he is technical about the way test questions r answered and difficult 2get along with. SI was a must. Lab book was required. My worse exp at AVC
I took Shahla over summer and it was HUGE mistake. He is not easily approachable, and when asked for help he uses you as an example in front of the class and embarrasses you! Everyone is afraid to ask any questions. For exams: Learn word by word answers so you get full points. Take his lab, he gives answers for exams during that time.
Sweet guy. He is very clear what he wants, so pay attention and follow his directions and youll be fine. Study his notes exactly and you will get an A. Hes strict, but he has his reasons. Hes a perfectionist in lab. He comes off mean but he is very nice. His wife is also helpful. He will help you if you go to his office hours.
Alright so I took Biology 204 General Microbiology in the summer and got an A. Dr. Shahla is a VERY caring professor. He tries to break things down as simply as possible. I recommend doing the SI and also doing your best to get him as your lab instructor cause he gives hints for exams in there. Overall a good experience just study and show up !!
I took him for intersession 2020, a hybrid online class. I personally took notes to help me understand which wasn't required but I believe it helped. The reviews he give will help you overall, I recommend going in depth while studying based off of the reviews. Textbook wasn't required so I went based off of PowerPoints and the review. 4 exams.
More like power points and good luck to u. No feedback or anyone to ask questions to. You get 4 tests and that's all no assignments. His study guides were not helpful. He may be good in class but online he is not even a teacher. He just submitted files for you to read and test you on it. Also, tests were at exact time. forget it if you have a JOB!
First off there was also of whinny children attending this course along with me which was the hardest part to deal with. Considering the situation with Covid he is trying his best and literally hands you all the materials needed for the exams. Study, follow his power points, and pay attention in lectures you will get a good grade. No excuses not to
Biology professor Shahla is a wonderful, great, and amazing professor. He gives his biology 101 lecture students study guides to prepare for the tests. Study guide questions are exactly the same as the test. Pretty much simple read the chapters, answer study guides, and take 4 tests. He is a very helpful professor.
It was weird taking a class that didnt require attendance. the only time you had to be available for his class was when there was an exam, but you didnt have to actually show up and meet with the professor. I kinda like having the non required attendance, but at the same time it was like I had to teach myself.
Tests are worth a lot of credit, watch out. He is not very approachable, and it is really hard to understand him. I think your lab grade pumps up your grade in his class, otherwise I wouldn't have passed.
I took this class online because I believed that it would work best with my current schedule - that was not the case. Although there was not a set meeting time, class work, or homework, the exams were set at one specific time and open for one hour only. He does not make any exceptions whatsoever. Not very approachable either. Be aware choosing him.
My favorite teacher at AVC thus far. He gives about 10-20 extra credit points to everyone. You need to work for your grade. I was afraid of failing but he assured me I could do it if I studied a little more. This class is a little time-consuming but I was taking honors classes and working a job and still managed to maintain my grade. Great teacher.
Biology professor Shahla is amazing professor; he gives study guides his study guides that the study guides he gives are exactly the same questions as the tests. Biology professor Shahla requires general biology 101 lecture textbook. He does 4 tests and he requires his general biology to read textbook.
Your tests determine most of your grades. the tests are hard. labs are easy. if you don't pass the exams you don't pass the class and there are 4 exams. There is no extra credit to help yourself or homework either. I've been Acing all my bio classes but he is tough. ruined my year. I was supposed to apply for the nursing program this year
He reads directly from the power point presentations very little teaching. He tells you if you have a question, to write it down on a piece of paper and bring it to him. He answers the question in front of the class very rude in attack mode. Dont tell students to ask questions and respond in a rude manner. How is that helping the student?
I never complain about teachers on RateMyProfessor so take this as a sign lol. Shahla decided to remove the slides off Canvas midway into the semester as if students weren't already struggling when the slides were available. Your grade is based on only four lecture exams, so good luck if you miss the first mark.
Definitely harsh but he does care about you passing. Expects highly of you during labs but honestly as long as youre following his lab manuel, you should be fine. Just do your best. Lots of notes in lecture. STUDY ALL THE NOTES & UNDERSTAND each concept. didnt use textbook. Overall hes okay, definitely had to earn my grade. Grade based on exams
Dr. Shala is not very good at teaching at ALL. Took slides off the canvas. Doesn't like you to answer questions mid-class. Ask "on a paper after class". He claims the study guide is the lectures he's provided. The study guide has the lab and lectures combined into 1 test. VERY HEAVY LECTURE-TAKING. He does not provide any type of extra credit.
Dr. Shahla is tough but he wants the best for all his students. Grading is based on four exams, labs, and the unknown bacteria project at the end of the semester. His exams are straight from the lectures so take good notes and you'll do fine. It is hard work so you really earn the grade you work for. Overall, I had a great experience in the class!
Chose this class to be online, but it was a hybrid. You study at home presentations and go in person for tests. The lectures and study guide honestly don't match the test. He drops your lowest score, which helps, but if you miss one of the four tests, you can't retake it.
Professor Shahla is the best! He truly cares that you understand the information, and if you don't, write your question down and he will be happy to answer it. I had heard he was a hard professor for the area of Microbiology, but that was far from the truth of my experience. Loved him and Dr UHAZY. Study consistently/review/REPETITION/PRAYER
It was a self-study class. A lot of material on your own. Study guides are given. A lot to learn.
He does not provide study guides or his PowerPoints. Your entire grade is made up of 4 exams, and your lab. The lab was my favorite part of the class since you got to work hands on. You only need the print out the lab manual and that's it. Everything that is posted on the syllabus you do not need. Aside from gloves, lab coat and googles.
just throws out modules of information (doesnt teach them or explain them) You are expected to teach yourself as you have to go in person to take the 4 tests that have little to do with what you were forced to teach yourself. He does release study guides but they don't have much helpful information.
I definitely would say this is a teach yourself type of class. if you study and are on top of everything it truly isn't difficult. There are no homework assignments and 4 exams. He drops your lowest test grade and those tests are the only thing he grades. No actual lectures it's all on canvas modules.
If you know you have a heavy class work load or life problems, don't take this professor.. you will drown. He dumps all the material on canvas & pretty much says "good luck! see you on test day!" you only have to show up in person to take 4 tests throughout the semester (50 Q's each) and he will drop your lowest score, no make ups for missed exams
I took his class in spring, and it is an "online class" but is actually hybrid. First class is mandatory, or you will get dropped all test are in person and there is a total of 4, 50 question tests that make up your grade aside from your lab class. He has no homework, provides reading material and a study guide. Do the reading or you won't pass.
He is very stuck in his own ways. Only graded on 4 lecture exams & your lab project. He will show a ppt in class and thats it. He won't post them & he won't make a study guide so if you miss a class, you miss out on all of that material. Always says "no one knows how I help you at the end" but that isnt helpful when youre trying to fix your grade!
I wouldn't recommend taking his course if you have a busy schedule. His teaching method is test-heavy, and a low score on some of the four tests can severely affect you.
This hybrid class is all about self-study. Lectures and materials are posted online, but tests are in-person. While it can be challenging, using resources like Unstuck AI alongside the textbook and study guides really helps prepare. Overall, worth taking if you're up for the workload.
Shahla cares about his students, is very knowledgeable, & he will answer any question you have. There is no homework, your grade is based on about 4 exams & the lab final. Big on attendance & doesn't post the notes so make friends. STUDY, the exams are not bad you just have to study your notes & he even tells you in the lecture what is important.
Does not post Powerpoints or give study guides for tests. Grade is 20% each for 4 lecture tests, 10% lab work, & 10% unknown bacteria project. Reuses old tests which are mostly Scantron. Some test questions are not covered in lecture. Non-comprehensive verbal reviews for tests. Many dropped the class, but best option out of all micro professors.
Very good professor. Enjoy the lecture powerpoints. 4 tests is primary the grade in class.
Very good biology professor. General biology is grade is base on four lectures. He gives wonderful good study guides for each tests with study guides helps prepares the students to get ready for tests. Always says to students answered the study guides there are several same questions from study guides in the tests. Fall 2025 I take microbiology
Very good professor. Gives wonderful study guide to help students get ready for tests for general biology. I will take another biology class fall 2025 that is microbiology.
There is no Study guides in this class, no Electronics or phones allowed in the classroom. All notes must be hand written and there is no lecture slides posted either.Your entire grade is based off of 4 Exams worth 100 points each.If you are caught with an electronic you will be sent to the Administrative office And will need 2 forms to come back.
Great professor, very straight forward. If you take in depth notes you will pass. Have B so far and so do most ppl. Knowing how to take notes and study them is the most important part. You get the grade you work for. if you have questions you write it on a paper and hand it to him at the end of class. He explains to clear any confusion you may have
MAKE SURE YOU ARE SELF LEARNER He will have 4 tests and each test will have 50 questions, no extra credit, not open book, no homework, no quizzes or anything like that, just those 4 tests. Make sure you do a thorough look through all the lessons and the study guide, expect the unexpected on his tests. I could write a lot more but character limit
4 Tests that can make or break your grade. If you DO NOT study YOU WONT pass, this isn't your regular gen ed class. I recommend looking through all of your modules with the lectures, and study guides and studying them with practice quizzes. Each test has 50 questions, the questions are worded weird on purpose to trick you.
He has a straight forward grading-criteria, you have to take good notes of his lectures bc that's what you'll rely on since he doesn't post his lectures online. Lab was fairly easy too he js was kinda scary but he's cool. Also no electronic devises to take notes (some people didn't care tho)
My advice for anyone considering taking his class is to be ready for the lecture exams and be sure to study the topics efficiently, because these lecture exams make up half your grade. So be prepared and don't slack on your studies, and completely lock in if you are hoping to get at least an A or a B.
I think Professor Shahla is very old school with his grading and classes. He doesn't post his lectures, no additional assignments or extra credit, and he has laughed at students who have asked questions before. It was a very stressful class, but he did say that he will help us if we help ourselves. Goodluck, you will need it.
There are only four exams to be graded, and the lowest score is dropped, so it's really three. There is a book to read and lecture slides, so you really have to try your hardest to learn independently and apply it to the tests. No make-ups are allowed if you do miss a test. Overall, not the worst if you're okay with only being graded by a few.
