Gets frustrated that students aren't learning what he isn't teaching.
Make the bad man stop.
Maybe if he spoke English...
Needs to slow down and actually teach. Not everyone finds math to be so interesting that you can joke about it and find it funny.
He's a bad teacher. Goes through lectures way too fast, and then expects you to remember it without ever going over it again. Homework is graded, but it doesn't help that much cause he never goes over it. Never, ever take Szeto. He's not good
Dont take Szeto unless you can read from right to left, and go 100 miles an hour. Also, there is no review for tests...homeowrk is not gone over, plain and simple, dont take szeto.
Nice guy, probably would be very funny if he spoke english... found the class very very repetitious and would repeat same example 25 times. Language barrier there big.
He is awesome. Lectures are clear, logical, and helful. He loves to teach, that is a quality that most professors do not have. His stories are hilarious. He can clearly explain mathematical concepts, despite the language barrier.
Foreign accent makes the lecture horrible to follow. He ends each sentence with It so eaaasy! which just makes you feel like an idiot for not understanding him. Thank god the rest of the class isn't following him either.
Good teacher and funny guy. I understood all the concepts well. However, he is an incredibly unforgiving grader and will take off all the points for a test problem even for a small algebraic error.
i always thought he was pretty funny... girls look in mirros! boy play football! sure, there's a bit of a language barrier, but that's to be expected with any foreign professor. all in all he's not exceptionally hard to follow, just pay attention.
Did not clearly explain difficuly concepts. No review of homework, hard tests, only 5 problems, and graded harshly. Dont take
Worst teacher ever.
This guys doesn't have a clue how to teach! Nothing he says in class is on the test and the homework is nothing like the tests.
I like how he lists everything and organizes the material. His accent can be hard to understand, but he's hilarious. The tests are only five questions, which is good and bad. I thought he was an easy grader, but some disagree.
This bozo has lived here for 30 odd years and still has an accent as thick as if he had come off the boat yesterday. I aced AP Calc and flunked in Szeto's Calc II: do we see a problem?
I will admit that at times he is difficult to understand but it doesn't really matter because everything on his tests are taken from the homework. His class is pretty simple if you just do the homework.
Terrible, just terrible. He teaches stuff that no other calc class has to deal with, and to top it off he teaches poorly. Not once did he present his grading scale, office hours, or a way to contact him, nor did he ever offer to help. Learn english!

Take asian civ before this class!! This guy cannot speak english. How are you supposed to learn calculus if you cannot understand your teacher? This guy sux at teaching..though i think he does what he talking about...but he isnt a good teacher..
This prof sucks, DO NOT TAKE HIM! He cannot speak english and he cannot relate to students who are having difficulty with the class. His answer to your questions is always, "see, you see, you get it now, ok good, lets move on..." when you dont e
Amazingly bad. Doesn't care if you get it or not
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!
What a ****. His accent isn't impossible, and he clearly knows the material, but he can't teach, and asking him for help quickly degrades to "I teach you! You learn it!" Avoid.
Even though you cant understand him a lot of the time, his enthusiasm for the subject and excitability makes the class manageable. Doing the homework helps a lot. (PS Look at the old tests, the proofs are the same!!!)
This teacher has been given a bad repuation. He is hard to understand at times, but he writes everything on the board. It's not like he has bad handwriting. Even the proofs on the tests are taken right from the book and that's 1/3 of your curved grade.
Not as bad as some people think. He does have an accent but its not one you can't understand. The material was easy so his lack of helpfulness wasn't meaningful.
He turned a class that I thought would be pretty easy into an impossible one. Very difficult to understand him. Very important to know that Ekal sign means Equal sign. He says that a lot. He doesn't know how students can't get every concept in class.
I dropped this teacher...do not take him!! I could not understand what he was saying and all he would do was write on the board. When a question was asked he assumed you were not following along with him. DROPPED IT!!!
Very difficult to understand. Has much enthusiasm. Tests aren't that difficult. The board is hard to read as he doesn't erase it, and writes over things.
He does not speak english! You can not understand him and he does not explain anything. He doesn't answer question either.
One thing that is unique about him: during course evaluations, HE STAYS IN THE ROOM AND WATCHES YOU!
amazingly bad. After taking calc, statistics should be easy. Not with this guy. Don't bother asking questions, he won't answer them, sometimes he completely ignores them. Also takes attendance, so you have to go to his worthless class.
This professor is by far the worst I have had in college. He is very difficult to understand and told me that women did not belong in engineering. He hates Americans and does not belong at this school. Made most of the class drop and the rest w/ C's or
needs better english
He says everything is EEZy but the way he teaches it, it definitely isn't. He randomly takes attendance and never gave us a syllabus. He's difficult to understand and when you ask a question he will explain a totally different answer. Plan to get a C!
He gets so excited about math, but is horrible at teaching it. You can't understand what he's talking about or where he's going. If you have trouble in math don't take him, he'll just confuse you.
you may think he cant be "that bad" but my lord he is. he wont ever erase the board so it one huge jumbles mess and then he reaks out if you ask him to erase it. i never passed one test in the class...he gave is the final on study day b/c he...
DO NOT take him!! He doesn't know how to teach and doesn't understand English. He can't explain things well when you ask questions and I'm even getting tutored and still can't get a good grade! He is horrible at teaching!

ok class, kind of cooky, but if you talk to him, he is ok. people are afraid of him, because they dont make the effort to know him. helpful if you ask
mth111 isn't just a blow off math class one way or the other, but szeto makes it 10 times worse, the math isn't that hard, but he can't teach, and there are only 5 questions on tests, i would recomend someone else
DO NOT TAKE GEORGE SZETO'S MATH CLASS. He can't even f'ing speak English let alone teach math. If you don't follow him then you FAIL. Otherwise everything is, "EASY." Do yourselves a favor and take my word, this man will not be your favorite professor!
Despite what everyone has said, this class isn't that bad. He is kinda hard to understand, but he gives a crapload of examples and the book is pretty easy to follow. He curves the tests for your final grade. I usually suck at math and I have a B in this class.
Despite the fact that he has a limited english vocabulary, he does make many concepts easier to understand by using clever analogies. He is very excited about calc 2, which really helps overall. If you do the homework and show up for class, you'll basically be fine. Is a bit of a harsh grader tho.
I graduated from BU ~6 years ago. I still remember one day Szeto went crazy in Calc 2 and started talking about 'taking the derivative of monkey over smiley face'. Unfortunately the remainder of the semester was about as coherent.
i think it says a lot when i get a migrane in each class. the only decent thing about the class is the curve. but i still wouldnt take him if you can avoid it....just dont
This guy is the worst teacher ever. You can't understand him and he has no idea how to teach the material. He has good intentions, but he's just not a good teacher. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
He is difficult to understand. Material seems easy in class but the hw and tests can be hard. Really tough grader!
His accent is hilarious, aside from that he is a nice guy but a very tough grader, try for someone else, but its not a huge deal.
Oh my god, this teacher is awful.
yeah, i aggree what what the others say, AVOID THIS GUY AS A TEACHER! I punched a wall and almost broke my hand because I was so angry with this guy and his class, find another teacher! I have no clue why this guy is still teaching!
OH MY GOD! HE MAKES CALCULUS SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED THAN WHAT IT IS! SOMEBODY STOP HIM!
Well i dropped this class at semester beginning cause i had already taken calc and he made it majorly unneccesarily difficult! impossible to understand!!

The guy can barely speak english, and speaks with a VERY heavy accent. He clearly enjoys math very much, but its just hard to learn anything because he is extremely difficult to understand.
He is really not all that bad. Mr.Szeto does have an accent but he can still be understood. I am passing his class with a strong B.
Eh, it really wasn't difficult to understand him. The only reason I got a B was because it was my first college math course and I was lazy. He knows exactly what he's talking about, and he knows that he knows what he's talking about - and by contrast, he knows where he should try to improve. I think I learned from the class.
He is a horrible communicator and he always jumps all over the place in his lecture. He is very unapproachable and always says "its easy," i tried to get help from him and I couldnt understand him 1 on 1. He just says, "you do homework, follow lecture, get good grade." He needs to coach ping pong instead of math.
Very Difficult to understand. Have tried to ask for help multiple times...same response every time; "Pay attention to my lecture, do homework, very easy!" Not at all, he is usually all over the place during the notes and his notes often look like chicken scratch. The guy does know his stuff; however, he does not address a students needs.
bad accent, he cant understand you and for sure can understand him.
Dr. Szeto is absolutly awful! You cannot understand him when he talks, and dont bother asking a question because that will just make it worse. Do yourself a favor, just skip class and learn from the book, it speaks english and makes it much easier to understand! If you can, please, please take another professor!
He is absolultely awful! I signed up for a different professor but Bradley switched the prof at the last minute, so make sure this doesnt happen to you! Dr. Szeto speaks very broken English and no one can understand him. If you're a math person and can teach yourself from the book, you'll be fine but dont expect to learn anything from the prof!
He does not help you and he jumps all over during his discussions, which are what he bases his tests on. No proofs though
TERRIBLE!!!!! Stay away if you can!
Worst math professor i've ever had. If you get him drop the class ASAP so you don't lose your $$, the first test is deceptively easy (i got a 95) and i still ended up with a D in the class by the end. Homework is worth 10% and there are no quizes so don't mess up on an exam (3 of them and the final) or you're screwed. 8 questions 3 hours no answers
If you are a strong math student (i.e. took calc in high school) then 121 is more or less a review. He is hard to understand, but if you already know calc in the first place, don't worry, you're probably fine. DO NOT take him if this is your first calc course ever.
Worst teacher ever!
I dont know if im crazy but I definetly did not hate szeto, I dont know if its just because I come from a family with a lot of heavy accents, but I understood him and I thought he was pretty easy. The only problem is when I got to calc II I was half a chapter behind. So just sit in the front row and smile at him and he'll like you.
I hated going to this class. You can't understand him and when you ask a question he has no idea what you are talking about. If you find old test for his class you'll do fine. The test very alittle but they are really helpful. I do not advise you to find another teacher for this class.
oh man, this guy is just terrible. It is amazing that he is even teaching!
Szeto is awesome!!! he explains things clearly and he knows exactly what he's talking about. Szeto has a slight language barrier, but if you look beyond it, you'll find one who knows and loves what he teaches better than most other teachers.
worst teacher i think i have ever had in my whole life. you cant understand a word he is saying and he has chicken scratch for hand writing so if you happen to get lost you may not know where to begin again. I use to be good at math i use to have straight A's and in this class i was failing. oh and dont plan on asking questions cause he doesnt answ
no is all i have to say, AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!
Everything about Szeto's chicken scratch, language barrier, and how he refuses to help or answer your questions is true. I've had some pretty crappy teachers in my life, but this one tops it off. I've never felt so lost. Take every measure you can to avoid this man. Wait to take the class until the next semester if it means getting a diff. teacher.
Dr. Szeto is the worst teacher I have had at Bradley. I could not understand a word he was saying even at the end of the semester. He also would not answer any questions and you felt like you were dealing with a child. He does not even use complete sentences. I hated this class and have no idea how I received a B. Do not take Szeto!
If you have never taken the class before like in high school, DONT TAKE SZETO. If you are borderline not good at math, DONT TAKE SZETO. If you want to learn anything and be helped, DONT TAKE SZETO. Basically only take this class IF you already know the material or can teach yourself 100%. HATE THIS MAN!
He knows his math, but almost expects you to learn what he is saying right off the bat. He tries to explain, and does his best. I like him as a person because he can be funny, and he is really excited about what he teaches. But you have to study, and do the homework that he assigns to get a good grade in his class.
/sigh biggest mistake i've ever made not dropping this class last semester, wish i had read this before hand...
He is incredibly difficult to understand and does not teach the material well. He will help you if you go into his office hours, but because it's so hard to understand him and his teaching style is bad, going in does not do you any good. AVOID this professor at all costs. I'm sure I would have done better with a different professor.
Don't take him because he can't speak English and he doesn't teach the material well.
Dr. Szeto is nice guy, but it is pretty hard to understand him, he doesn't speak proper English. If you study for the tests you will do okay. He always throws out one question. I also heard that there is hefty at the end of the semester. Hes not a bad teacher you just have to do the homework, which he does not give everyday.
He is really Eager to teach and he is often quite funny but his handwriting is terrible, he is hard to understand and and he doesn't present his work in an organized manner on the board. so basically it takes you an extra second to understand him and by the time you do, you've lost you're place on the board and you can't read it anyway.
Stats is an easy class but not with this guy. Hes hard to understand and tests you on the intricacies of his lecture. I dropped it, along with half my class. I suggest picking a different teacher.
Stats is an easy class but not with this guy. Hes hard to understand and tests you on the intricacies of his lecture. I dropped it, along with half my class. I suggest picking a different teacher.
worst professor I have ever had! if you can avoid this class do it. the material isn't that hard but he speaks broken english making it hard to understand. do yourself a favor and don't do it. the only thing this class is good for is a laugh
Everyone who's hating on this guy needs to chill. He genuinely cares about how you do. His accent is not that bad. His work on the board is kind of hectic but if you ask a question he will answer. Hes also super funny without trying to be. Take him and just sit in the front, you can do it!!
He is a terrible teacher!!! Going to class makes it worse. You cannot understand a word he is saying. He makes everyone feel like idiots because he says "simple! Why not get it?" He hardly knows how to speak English not to mention Calc!
Best teacher ever!! Learned more in one semester than my whole life altogether
The language barrier isn't that hard to get used to. He's one of the best math teacher's I've ever had, very enthusiastic about the material and very easy to follow in class. Office hours and lack of online resources were a problem, however.
took stats in high school but it didn't help much. you get used to his accent, he's funny and enthusiastic but notes are all over the place, hard to read, and confusing. he is not good at explaining things and doesn't go over homework or tests in class at all. book is somewhat helpful. go to class or you're screwed. do not recommend
Do not take with him, it was hard and he did not help much. Funny guy to listen to, but he just breezed through lessons without explaining anything and the tests were a lot different than examples or what he said. Take 115 at a community college.
Couldn't understand him most of the time, treated students like they were dumb if they asked questions during lecture, all around a horrible professor.
Dr. Szeto was a great professor! If you like math and want to learn more I would recommend taking his class. He is very entertaining and calls on the same people in class. Just listen, take notes, and actually do the assignments.
Tests are tough, but are based on the homework and class notes. Attend class because he takes attendance (which is to your advantage). He stumbles upon his thoughts periodically, and assumes you know more than you know.
He does have an accent which takes a while to get used to. Lectures are long and moved through fast in order to get through all the material. Homework is assigned weekly and taken for a grade, which I thought was helpful. Test questions are more difficult than the problems we do in class.
He has a very strong accent so it may be difficult to comprehend what he is saying. Complete every single homework assignment. This will save your grade. Take advantage of tutoring. If you ask him for help, he responds aggressively and states the material is "simple". DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM.
His accent makes it kind of hard to understand him but lectures are pretty easy to follow, its just really hard to ask questions because he doesn't really understand. He's really good about giving partial credit on tests IF YOU GO TO CLASS. If you skip a lot he wont give you partial credit. and he wore the same sweater every day all semester.. haha
I had Dr. Szeto in the late 1980's, early 1990's. I still remember his lectures and teaching style. Furious board writing and equally furious note taking, seeded with jokes. "Here's our old friend Delta, in different clothing!" For all of you that say "it was too hard" - College is not supposed to be easy. It is supposed to be hard.
