This was the best math prof I have ever had, he taught us logic in an easy to understand way, it was not an easy class to pass, it was easy to understand the concept and so do well on the finals

His tests are not easy, but if you actually want to learn Calculus, his notes and explanations are probably the best. Unlike several other Math profs here, he speaks fluent English.

Excellent examples and very approachable. Exams are challenging but fair. He does tend to move very quickly in class but is more than willing to help if you can't quite grasp the concepts.

Speaks English really well, which is a suprise since he does teach math, he proves a lot of useless theorems, and some assignments are ridiculously hard, and the final was brutal, but he teaches fairly well and expects a high level of competence.

Teaches his class quite well, speaks clearly and examples are clear. knows his stuff. Exams are difficult. GPA killer because he didn't scale or curve the class when midterm avg was 48%. Steer clear unless your a math wiz.

Very good prof, the only thing I didn't like was that his midterm was multiple choice???? Why!! If you make one mistake you get no part marks for even doing all that work! Very clear and thorough though and final was a breeze.

Tokarsky is an excellent prof. His class is hard but if you put effort into it you will be rewarded.

Tokarsky is great, he spoke clearly, examples and "plan of attacks" are very helpful. Treat student with respect, lecture aren't very boring. I do agree with other people, if you pay attention in class and do some practice questions from the textbook, you shouldn't fail this class.

Greatest math prof ever, I would totally suggest him for anything...I also hear he teaches Math 222, the geometries, 228, and Phil 120. SPEAKS ENGLISH well and without an accent. He helps out in any way possible...even if you aren't in his class. He also has great notes and doesn't always use the examples from the textbook like other math profs.

He speaks very clearly, notes are okay. But the materials covered in class are really complicated and the assignments are super hard. Examples he did in class are not very helpful.

Tokarsky is an great prof. He loves what he does and he's pretty funny too. He also gives you better-than-textbook ways of doing things.

amazing math prof. I had him for 114 and enjoyed his lectures so much that I went to his 115 lecture after transferring into engg and being in 101 (which is a bit faster paced). HARD but educational assignments, his notes are logical, ordered, and easy to follow; he does not leave out hard-to-see steps. He is very fond of trig, though. I am not.

I don't like him as a prof. I found him VERY boring (the class seemed to never end) and his examples in class were much easier than in the hmwk assgn's and tests. However, he speaks clearly (and actually speaks english) which is always a rarity for a math prof.

He's a good prof. Good notes, very organized. If you focus on studying off his notes and be familiar with the theorems, you will do good on the exam. He's not the funniest prof in the world, but he is good at teaching systematically.

If you do his homework you will do well because his exams are basically like the homework problems. Very clear speaker, good notes, little boring especially on T/R when classes are long. Overall, not bad.

He does an excellent job as a prof. His assignments prepare you perfectly for the exams. It is critical that you do not miss the notes, however. His exams both will have one question which asks you to reproduce one proof, selected randomly from ALL that he did in class. Still, his methods are fair and effective. He hates using computers, though.

For geometry you need to go to class, textbook is useless, but he tells you this. Really hard marker but very good at explaining notes. Can be a bit boring at times and the tues/thurs class is killer. As far as profs go though he's pretty dam awesome.

Georgie T... I absolutely hate math, but somehow I miss this class. I tried extremely hard- I nearly failed the midterm, but labs and assignments helped. I passed! Dr. Tokarsky was full of "funny" jokes, explained examples quite well, and gave examples that were pertinent to exams. Definetely a good prof!

George tries to make this class fun. very easy to understand and the class notes are exactly what you need to know for the exams...although his exams are extremely tough.

Tokarski was interested in the topic and explained things as clearly as possible.

Very organized,lectures for the most part were straight forward, hw was long and challenging, and if you need extra help he is almost impossible to get a hold of outside his office "times" and do not expect him to give you the answers to problems only hints on how to solve them. Long midterm and final. Good guy, good teacher, but tough hw and final

Very organized and good notes, easy to follow, speak clearly, explain very well, you will like Calculus until the exams bite you in the butt. Very hard and long exams. No practice exam, no email, no curve.

The class average is a D+. He will not change it, or curve it. So if you would like a class with a 33% fail rate, then go for it. Also he is IMPOSSIBLE to contact and not helpful at all when you ask him questions. The assignments and exams are very, very hard. Overall it is a class you should only take if you HAVE to.

Very good instructor in class. Notes are very clear, presents ideas in a very easy to understand way and seems to love geometry maybe a little too much. The midterm was fine but the assignments were brutal, have fun spending 4 to 6 hours on each unless you work in a group. No e-mail address and nowhere to be seen outside of office hours.

Loved the prof, loved the content, hated the exams. His lectures are outstandingly efficient and crystal clear. Very good at answering questions, clearly enjoys what he's teaching. The content and assignments were straightforward. Unfortunately, the final didn't test the content as much as it tested your ability to sort through an algebraic mess.

George is an excellent professor. His exams are VERY fair, as they are simply questions from the assigments!

Tokarsky turned glorified high school geometry into the most time consuming course I've ever taken. Assignments are brutal, exams are tough. Make a Chinese friend: they have solutions online that'll bail you out of spending 6 hrs/assignment (do what I didn't: take advantage). Class was uncurved, avg was a 2.1, the hardest A- I've ever got.

Fyi the 241 hmwk is prepared by Dr. Leonard (legit tough prof) so every section of that class is annoying. When Tokarsky writes the hmwk it's very fair.As always: great notes and easy to follow lectures. Problems: doesn't post solutions online (on reserve in Cameron which can be inconvenient) and disappears outside of class/office hours (no e-mail)

Great prof! His notes are crystal clear he writes them on the board non of that power point crap. He's very good at explaining the material I actually walked out of his class feeling that I've learned something. Midterm and final were easy, straight forward and similar to examples done in class. I would take a class with him again!

He is just great. Very well organised and knowledgeable. You gotta love his 3 step processes, lol. I almost always felt overwhelmed after class but the stuff he tests on you is far easier than the material covered in class and hws (ie exams are very fair). He is qquite funny and you can understand what he says. Take him if y0u can

Mr. Tokarsky restored my faith in math after a horrible experience with math 114. His notes are great, very clear, very informative, and very helpful. He gives weekly assignments that don't require more than an hour or two. And his midterm didn't contain any trick questions. I really enjoy going to a 80 minute class with this guy. Highly Recommend!

Super easy. The midterm is exactly same as the sample midterm. One can easily score 100% from his midterm, just be careful. I made one stupid mistake and got 97.

Fantastic professor! Tricky assignments, tricky tests, but definitely fair. You will leave his class feeling like a geometry genius.

George was a great professor. I had very little knowledge of calculus going into the course but he was an extremely helpful prof, and made it very clear what his midterms and final exam would look like, giving plenty of examples.

Hated his class at first. Felt like my high school knowledge was the only thing keeping me alive in the course. Once he started teaching material i didn't know, I started learning from him. He goes fast sometimes, writes down alot of proofs in class but the exams were straight forward.

great prof. if you have to take this course and are dreading it, you're going to want this guy. he is easy to understand, sometimes goes a little fast but assignments are easy marks and good practice and exams are straightforward and easier than assignments. he is not that helpful in office hours but the help room makes up for that.

Great prof! He has a great enthusiasm for calculus. Sometime he makes things sound a little more complex than they actually are, but overall his notes are great! His tests are extremely fair and if you practice what you learn in the lectures you'll do awesome. I would definitely recommend you take this class. :)

He's good for the following reasons: 1) He speaks/writes clearly in english 2) He has relatively fair exams(still quite difficult but fairer than other profs in 113/114) He's bad because he spends a lot of time on theory, and you end up with two notebooks full of notes from when you were copying stuff down non-stop without thinking. Excellent prof. He has a lot of variety in his notes, and the proofs and examples were always clear, visual and easy to understand without dumbing down the course material. Assignments were moderately fair, but the online program itself sucks. Downside is the midterm and the final were waaay too long for almost ANYONE with the time given.

Great Prof, Explained things well, and everything he emphasized was on the midterm and final. Exams were very fair, which is worth 80 percent of the course which was very important.

His math 115 is a really easy class for me, I love his class , although the homework is always boring. The midterm and final are quite easy, finally I got an A+ from his class.

the class is pretty easy for me since i took calc in high school. he kind of takes you on this math journey, beginning and ending like a chapter of a story. the key to doing well in first year calc is going to MASC. i would really like to have george again in the future

Over all George is one of the better calculus profs. I had never taken math 31 before, so the notes were kind of hard to understand. I suggest taking pre-calc which is a program offered to help students,it costs money but it saved my grade. George had a really easy midterm... final was harder. Try to get in his class, better than most calc profs.

He's such a nice guy and he really wants us to understand, but my opinion is that he has lost touch with what the difficult parts of the material are. No doubt he finds everything that he teaches extremely easy, so he slows down but often only glances over what I would call the hard parts. I respect him but I found him only to be an ok teacher.

Midterm was super easy, the final was brutal... he is a good prof and explained the concepts but you have to pay attention and ensure you actually understand what you are copying down. I took cal in highschool so I found the course easy, but those who hasn't prob should take some pre cal

I took math 31 so my foundation in calculus was pretty strong. At times, his notes are difficult to understand (unless you too took precalc), and may even seem overly complicated. However, he does care about his students, and makes sure his class gets material without being rude. Super easy midterm, okay final. Overall, a good prof!

Good prof. I took Calc in highschool so I knew what I was doing, but even if you haven't he's a good prof. Clearly explains concepts and doesn't make you simplify answers.

As far as math 100 profs go, George is the guy you want. He is a far better teacher compared to his peers. Found many other students in other Math class's in my lectures. Its a tough course and little room for error. He loves math and is clear with his lectures. Id definitely recommend him and the help class as an add on,as it is difficult at times

Lectures were okay, good balance of theory and examples. Tests were too long (didn't finish a single test!), with the most challenging types of questions that you need many tactics to solve.

If you truly want to learn math, take his class. He makes everything clear and easy to understand. This is a tough course, but he makes classes fascinating. Assignments and exams are tough but fair. The grade is not curved so the average is only 1.6 in the end. This is the most valuable A+ I have ever get.

Midterm is easy. Final is fine. His note is well organized. He uses whiteboard only, so if your eyes are not good, sit front.

He's an ok prof and he has a passion for math. Don't know if it's just the curriculum, but there is a lot of focus on useless proofs (i.e. of formulas, etc.) His midterm was fair, but it was difficult for people who haven't taken calc before as it was shared with a 114 class too

Very approachable and loves his students. Very passionate about calculus. However, this course is one of the hardest courses and you really need to be practicing throughout the term. His midterm was ridiculously easy however the final was BRUTAL. It's made by the department head so its not's his fault.

Amazing prof, amazing notes. Probably my favorite prof in the math department. Explains everything very clearly and gives good examples. The assignments take a lot of work, but nothing you shouldn't be used to in math by now.

Over complicated things, extremely lucky I took calculus in high school. Made concepts I understood already confusing. Has good examples, boring to listen to but nice enough. Rushes through some of the more difficult concepts which was annoying. Not that bad. Not great.

Perhaps the best math prof you can possibly have. Super helpful, really interesting, and crystal clear. He really cares about his students. Although the book helps, it is not nearly as helpful as going to class. His midterm is easy but his final is absolutely BRUTAL, but fair. Recommend him.

This was the illest calculus teacher I have ever had. Explains concepts super clearly. Midterm was a joke, final was challenging but he prepares you will for it.

Hands down the best Math prof you could have. His lectures are great and he welcomes questions (especially after class). Make sure you do A LOT of practice, as it is not an easy course. His tests are tough, but fair. His final was definitely better than the other profs from what I've heard.

You'll either love or hate Tokarsky. Had him for Math 115, and he has definitely been looking at student feedback and changing his lecture style. His lectures are well-presented and informative. Be prepared to use other textbooks to supplement the lectures. 5 assignments which take time and are meant to be challenging. Midterm and final are fair.

George is a very easy-going professor, especially when it comes to making his tests. Other profs tend to expect more theory and difficult concepts when testing. Really nice guy, and also writes his notes in a way that you are well aware of what is important or not. Helps to have taken calculus in high school.

Tokarsky is one of the best professors out there. He is super approachable and honestly cared about his students. He is always willing to help and answer questions. His notes are really clear with lots of examples. The course is not an easy one because the assignments take up so much time, but Tokarsky will definitely make it ten times easier :)

After having failed 115 twice, Mr. Tokarsky did a fantastic job of really making things *click*. Absolutely fantastic professor.

The hardest final exam I've ever seen.

George is definitely one the best math professors at the U of A. His lectures are insanely easy to follow, everything makes sense and he is the cutest person ever. I took math 114 with another prof and got a B+, took the math 115 with this guy and got an A+ . Just keep up with the practice sets and exams will be a breeze.

Tokarsky is awesome! His lectures are pretty good, easy to follow. I went to the first few weeks of class, but skipped the rest. But I was able to keep up because he posted his notes onto eclass though a bit messy. Asgmt are a bit challenging, but you will do fine on the exams if you understand the hw problems and do the sample exams. Awesome Prof!

Professor Tokarsky really cares about his students and is willing to help them succeed. This course is challenging but it is way easier with George, ask for help and it's there. Try to do well on the midterm and homework assignments because his final can be extremely difficult.

He is an okay teacher. Not too great, but not horrible either. The written assignments are much more work than they are worth, and there is too much weight to the final. his notes a good, but he goes fast, so you have to keep up. The thing i found with Tokarsky is that he is always willing to help, however it is assumed you took calculus in high school. Midterm was very easy if you prepare for it, but the final was definitely tricky. Great proff

George is a great mathematician and I thought he was a good teacher, however it seems he was an incredibly unforgiving marker. The final class average was very very low. I would not recommend taking his class if math is not your forte. If you love math though, look up "the illumination problem". You'll find him inspiring.

Tokarsky was one of my favorite profs this term. He will go rather quickly in lectures but as long as you copy notes well his examples prepare you for whats going to be on the midterm and final. Recommend sitting closer as he doesn't use a microphone or projector. I found his class enjoyable and understandable.

He's one of the best profs i met this semester. He writes on the white board rather PPT. He's writing and notes are so neat and straight forward. Even if you miss a lecture, you'll catch up by following his notes. He always stay after lectures to answer question. And he jokes a lot, an interesting guy

He was one of my favourite professors this year. His lectures are clear and to the point. He does write on the whiteboard and speaks without a mic so opt for a seat at the front. He does post notes online but I suggest going to class. Also the work in this course comes from the course itself and has nothing to do with the prof.

George is passionate about geometry, and it shows through in his lectures. He is a tough grader, and has high expectations. Do NOT use your cell phone or fall asleep in class. I could have done much better if I'd been able to focus more energy on the material.

Tokarsky's lectures really help to clarify the underlying theories and concepts covered. Math is definitely a course you'll have to put in a lot of individual work for, but his notes and examples will help a lot.

Tokarsky is happily set in his ways, and that's a good thing. Be respectful in lecture and you will be fine. The material in this course is super interesting, especially as you get into groups of transformations and Frieze groups. George likes to include some material related to his own research as well, which makes it even more interesting!

GO TO CLASS. Everything he teaches, he writes on the whiteboard. He has some scanned notes on eclass but they aren't ideal. Tokarsky is a great prof though, he's so enthusiastic about class and goes over the concepts at a good pace and in great detail. Had math114 at 8am with him and it was worth it. Also, don't slack off after the midterm

George is a passionate geometer, though his passion is a bit subdued at times. He covers everything you need to know in the lectures, and not all material is found in textbook. He makes geometry a lot of fun, though he's a very tough grader and has quite high expectations. This is not unreasonable.

If you have any interest in geometry, take it with Tokarsky. He is difficult, but fair, and oh so passionate about the subject. This course has a lot of really cool results but relies heavily on MATH241.

He cares about his students. He's always there for his students. Gives tips and advice in his notes which are well-structured and have examples well laid out.

I don't really learn much from this course. Most of the content is easy. The professor is very friendly, caring and able to make every concept clear. So, if you just want to boost your GPA, then choose this course. If not (you really wanna learn something), try MATH 217.

Great lecturer but exams have multiple choice that are weighted almost the same as long answer. This means that they room for error and part marks is minimal. The tests boil down to if you get 1 or 2 questions wrong you arent passing the exam.

He's very caring and although this is a tough course, he gives great examples in his lectures from previous exams. Most caring prof I've had at uAlberta so far. He's speaks very clear and is an awesome prof overall. Makes calc 3 bearable.

Professor Tokarskys is certainly a difficult course, but he does tons of examples in class which makes the homework easier. His writing does sometimes look discombobulated and can be hard to read though.

Everybody is giving George a hard time, but so far he is the best calculus professor I have had. He teaches at a pace in which everybody should be able to keep up. When he writes the exams, it is all multiple choice, but the questions are heavily note based. I had to drop this course the semester before, and George has made it WAY easier this time.

Decent prof, I personally found he explained concepts really well in lectures. Weekly homework in the summer term was not fun especially since many question required outside the box thinking that could only be achieved through searching the web. Compared to assignments exams are a breeze but there is not many practice questions for the exam
