this guy knows too much but can't talk
WORST COURSE EVER! 4thyr courses should be fun. 4111's from hell. No real text.

get used to the accent...hard tests...plays it down but expects 2much from york!

Got D from him. Stay away from this course if you don't speak Greek.
waste my money!
stay away if u value ur $$$ and gpa
its either him or turpin...hmmmmm...D or D+? hmmmmmmm

oh my god!!! he's so difficult and just rambles on.

he knows too much to teach. he is willing to provide help, but the thing is you may not understand it. test and exam are not hard, if you go to some other prof's lecture who can explain the things out.
Yup, he's too fast and expects all his students to be as brilliant as he is. But we're not, we're just students! He is helpful in office hours but his lectures are just too overwhelming. Don't hope for anything more than a C or C+.
Avery hard teacher !!! He thinks he is GOD !
he is surprisingly an averagely good prof. Takes his time teaching even lets his students ask stupid questions.
Best professor I've had so far. Witty and lively, which is crucial for a difficult math class. The people who bash him are venting over the fact that they don't get the material, no matter who attempts to teach them. There's plenty of room in ITEC, guys!
he is wonderful.i never understood logic the way he made me. makes you "see" and "feel" what you are learning and not only just prove things. ie. if u wantto learn:).
OK this guy is smart, but i'm paying $$$ for him to be evasive, and rude. Stay away from this mal-adjusted person...buddy take some courses on people skills.
A witty sense of humour, but he adopts a teaching style totally different from book. Sketchy notes provided by him are impossible to read. He needs to write a textbook that students can understand if he is to continue with his eccentric teaching style.
Stay away....not even half the class passed any of the exams.
He makes you scrap all 'intro' knowledge and learn "HIS" way of logic, rewrites the whole thing too, so the book is useless. his sence of humor is so flat - green horses to explain a complex theorem? And to top it all off, he is the coordina
he dont know how to make ppl understand. besides, he uses his "ambiguous" notes instead of the textbook.
This guy has been sniffing books for way too long. Absolutely no social skills (a must when teaching). Furthermore, his course materials, and tests don't match...avoid this guy at all costs (don't even look at him if he passes you in the hall). Only the public sector could support this one
Hey there, who knows their material and theory better than Tourlakis? I dare challenge anyone to cough up a prof. more theoretically dilligent.
The master of theory. His course on computability will stretch your mind and legitimize your computer science degree. His style makes the material accessible without sacrificing substance. Yes, the course is difficult, but 4th-year theory courses are bound to be death no matter who the teacher is.
stay the beep away before he fails your beep, u have to take the same course 10 times WITH HIM to be able to understand what the beep is going on, his notes are garbage, they are only good to be put in ur fireplace during the winter,
AVOID!
easy midterm & assignments. his webnotes are confusing, but if you read and re-read his web notes and then do his assignments seriously, then nothing to worry about. final's hard; half of questions from predicate logic this year. but, this course isn't easy, and it'd be better to spend more time for this than any other math courses like calculus.
THE MOST UNAPPROACHABLE PROF EVER... HE WILL SIMPLY BITE YOUR HEAD OFF IF YOU ASK A QUESTION. HE MAKES A DIFFICULT SUBJECT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT. -RIDE THAT BELL CURVE!!!!
Horrible! asks u to go to text for things' never been taught in lectures. living in his own world expecting u know everything he's been talkin or has not been. AVOID if u can, rather throw my money into grabag, dun waste ur money and time.
he is the worse prof I have ever met in my whole life
He is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my 3 years at York. I wish I had checked his rating here before committing to his class. The way he describes the course material is TERRIBLE and you will be lost in no time, even if you are on top of everything. PLEASE AVOID for your own good. The only plus I would give him is his sense of humour
He is a smart guy!
if this so called professor can be a professor, everyone can be a professor. terrible speaking, no organized teaching style, always use the most difficult words to describe the concepts. I realy don't understand why york emply this guy. The worst teacher I met in the world.
I've been his student for three weeks and in these weeks he has made my life a living hell. He means well but is just a bad professor. With his thick accent, disorganized teaching style, its a surprise anyone has ever passed his class. I found that the only way to learn is to study with others or by yourself. Don't expect to learn anything from him
It is clear that he is very enthusiastic about his subject but that doesn't help. Will sure find the most difficult way to explain the simplest thing. We also had to use a book that he wrote.. painful, painful experience, I want my nights back! Funny it is supposed to be a logic course but I have yet to see any logic...
avoid taking the course with him even if you are in a desperate situation. He uses his own book for the course and that book is just terrible. I have not yet seen a book as useless and incomprehensible as his book. Wait for the next term to take the course from some other professor.
He is a decent professor, his midterms usually cover his material from assignments. Final's difficulty will depend on how well people do on his midterms. In person he's alright, but over email, he is just terrible. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, did I mention he's terrible at emails?
If you didn't do well in Math1019, Do not take this course, it assumes you understood the basics of propositional and predicate logic. You have to ask questions and attend lectures to do well in this course, the textbook does not baby you (no answers in the back) so interact with the prof, ask lots of questions and you'll be fine.
Takes simple concepts and makes them 100 times harder. His accent is hard to understand and he is very disorganized. His textbook is slightly better than him but it looks like it's just throwing a bunch of information at you. The good news is, his assignments are very similar to ones from the past.
He's funny but if you don't know the foundation & theories, you might as well skip his class. His notes dont make much sense and he doesn't have powerpoints. You can't even search things up on the internet bc he makes up the theory names himself. His book is excruciatingly difficult to understand lol good luck.
Avoid taking this course with him. He explains everything in the most difficult way to understand. He uses his own textbook which is complete garbage, and his tests are difficult.
Prof. Tourlakis' lectures and material are indeed confusing, and hence required more time and effort in studying the course contents. However he meant well: he aimed to make us understand the real meaning and concept of logic, not just doing calculation. Students indeed has to put in more effort to understand the stuff he is trying to teach.
The guy has definitely put a lot of time into this subject, but he is just not meant to teach it in my opinion. For some reason he uses very different terminology not found in other logic textbooks (he wrote the textbook). The saving grace in this class was that the assignments were worth 30%. A quarter of the class still failed though.
His accent is really hard to understand, No slides or lecture note to study , skeptic personality, Disorganized, Text book is hard to understand (you have to study several times to get the idea of what the course is all about.) , awful lectures.
His lectures are scrambled, but he does a good job explaining concepts. Make sure you reread previous lectures notes before attending the next lecture since he does use previous concepts very often and you will be lost if your not familiar what hes talking about. This isnt a bird course, dont expect a good mark if your not going to apply yourself.
Poor lectures, not recommended:(
Confusing lectures, and also no lecture notes online, only in class. The textbook he uses is actually his own and is kind of confusing as well, so I would avoid taking this course with him all together.
Avoid taking any course with him , I didnt like his personality at all.
Doesn't know how to teach. He takes easy material and makes it ridiculously hard. His lectures are so confusing and hard to follow. The textbook, which he wrote, is impossible to understand. Only survived by handing in assignments which may or may not have been done independently. At least he cracks a joke once in a while... AVOID!
The ONLY reason he is just teaching in York is he is tenured prof and He CAN impose his views on EECS faculty, He doesnt know how to teach, not respected among students, Dont take any courses with him, try not to deal with him at all ,even for administrative stuff.
Yeah, good luck taking this course and passing with better than C with only his lecture material and textbook. You won't understand what he is saying unless you put extra effort to find out what he is talking about.
Good opportunity to practice skipping through and guessing, paragraph by paragraph, not sentence by sentence. That's the only way to understand him. Abstract, him, not this course. But he's knowledgeable, know his stuff very well, just bad at making them clear. He's willing to answer questions and he does reply emails in time!
I'll admit the way he presents material isn't always clear, but his explanations are in-depth and cover the complete concept, which is something very few profs achieve, he is also generous with grading, but you have to do examples outside class to succeed, if you depend on the prof to do many examples and simplify course material, don't take him.
He's a good prof but his material is hard to understand. His book is not good for new students as its quite confusing but overall as a prof hes a solid 4.
WORST PROFESSOR. AVOID HIM. Not accessible, disorganized, confusing textbook and lectures, there aren't any additional resources:( Only positive side was he is knowing well on content that he teaching, but this won't pay off as he making us so confuse.
He's totally out of touch with teaching. He rattles off abstract terms and theorems like they're common knowledge. He refuses to use slides, online notes, or even a mic regardless of classroom size. And of course, he wrote the course textbook, which is a densely packed mess of his own invented jargon.
Don't expect to just breeze by this course... you're going to need to do a lot of extra work
The worst prof that I have had in the two years I have been at york. He may be knowledgeable but does not know how to teach. He teaches like we are already supposed to know what he is talking about. Also, he wrote the book for this course so his book is useless too.
Horrible prof decides to use own textbook so I also know that he's also a horrible author. Book was either written to be hard to navigate xor there was no planning put into it. If you're not in the class but reading this for idk what reason don't buy his book, it's a disorganized mess.
Worst proff ppl take 3 times and still pass with C, Lectures are not worth attending, He doesnt even has answers to his own written textbook and boasts himselfas author lol.
took his class was ruining a student. Tmr is exam , so I have no idea about my grade. but don't take his class. he is the worst . choose the second last even better than George.
Worst professor ever. Unfair marker, rude, and lectures are not helpful avoid at all cost.
It is a challenge to always catching Professor Tourlakis up in class but still his lectures are enjoyable. His textbook are helpful if you can spend some time to getting used to his style. And also tests are closely related to the lecture material and similar to assignments. Professor Tourlakis responses to emails very fast.
Cannot understand anything he says, very unclear speech.
Stay away from this guy. He is rude and unprofessional. He doesnt know how to teach at all and his book and notes were written in a way that u wont be able to understand it. Seriously idk why this guy is still teaching.
Don't take him, really trust me, if you do have him switch while you have the chance
I gave up engineering because of this man. Never take a course with him.
I had a difficult time learning anything in his lectures. I simply got lucky with that grade.
Worst professor I've ever had at York. He could not care less about you, he'd rather be anywhere but class. This guy decided to hold no lecture at all when classes went online, and just decided to use the same jargon filled class notes as a "faithful representation" of what would be taught in class. If you're reading this, save yourself the misery.
He was the worst thing that has happened in my 19 years on this earth. He ruined me mentally, physically, and emotionally. I achieved my A with my own blood, sweat, and tears. He did not teach me one single thing (I only attended the first day of the lecture), his midterms were pointless, his recorded lessons were non-existent during COVID. TY
George Tourlakis is a great professor. He doesnt follow any textbook and provides his own typed notes. His lectures might not be informative but his notes is all you need as it is informative and the way he talks about such an abstract concept is absolutely amazing. His tests may look scary but if you do his exercises you will be good to go
Cannot deny the fact that he has immense knowledge in his field but for some reason he is extremely rude. The fact that he has written a few books and has spent decades in this field could be the reason for his gigantic ego. very unprofessional, rude, irritating and egoistic. In my opinion hes good but a very unpleasant personality
Easily the worst Professor I've ever had at York. The textbook is written by himself and while he may have immense knowledge on the subject, his teaching style is horrible. His lectures consist of him reading notes copied straight from his textbook and his inability to explain himself in Layman's terms forces you to learn the course for yourself.
Anyone here who rated this man a 5 is lying to your face. Any students who receive a grade higher than B+ in any of his classes are A+ average students. EECS 2001 feels like I'm having a fever dream and nightmare but worse. The course material is hard in and of itself and all he does is read off his slides. He is rude and completely unbothered.
He really is one of the best profs I've ever had. Really wise and really knows the material he's covering. My recommendation is follow his lectures and whatever you don't understand just refer to the textbook. He gives plenty of time to complete assignments. His tests are fair - way simpler than assignments and time is more than enough!
2001 is already pretty hard and this professor doesnt help at all. He teaches from his own textbook in his own way so you cant find any resources online to help and he does a terrible job of explaining things. Hes also extremely rude, avoid at ALL costs.
Very tough and strict prof. People are failing his class. He teaches different content for 2001 compared to the other profs content. His lectures are so confusing and the content he teaches is confusing so i only pickup about half of the stuff he teaches. Had a very bad and regretful experience with this prof.
and absolute disgrace of a prof !!! dont ever chose him. Shoudlnt be paid a penny for teaching the wasteman.
do not take this prof. he is awful. and never give good marks with hard exams
His lectures are based off of his textbook, however I learned only from listening to him teach as reading his notes/textbook alone can be very confusing. If you don't attend/watch the lectures, you wont pass. He is a very generous and fair marker. George is a very slow speaker, so having a 2x speed option in online lectures was a huge time saver.
He is probably the worst professor i had the misfortune to come across. gets angry if students are not understanding or tries to ask questions. i thought eecs 2001 was an impossible course but now after taking it with another professor I realized how bad tourlakis was. i completely wasted my money taking his course.
Even though this course is supposed to be about logic, it is the most illogical course I have ever taken. The prof is okay at teaching but the concepts taught are useless and have no application in real-life. The class average for the midterm AFTER curving was 50%. The TA's are very harsh and mark your answers wrong even if they are correct smh
His class is the only class I have ever completely given up in. He is so unapproachable and his lectures make no sense and he just goes on and on not caring if we're understanding him. I don't understand how he made such an easy course into the toughest course I have ever taken. He is awful.
Find a different prof
If you'd like to become mentally burnt out, please do yourself a favor and take 1090 with Tourlakis. Expect to work like a donk the whole semester and end up with a near failing grade. He didn't even curve the marks. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
if you cant explain it simply, you dont understand it well enough. Albert Einstein
Worst prof I've ever had. The first semester was ok, the second semester is so unnecessarily hard because George just talks about containers all class and does not engage the class in his lectures. His lectures are an hour long but always feel a lot longer. His teaching methods are unorthodox and outdated. There are two exams worth a net 75%.
George struggles to answer your questions without confusing you even more. Hard to keep up with his lectures because of that stupid stutter. Bro made his own textbook with his confusing notation and expects us to understand. The PASS tutor has taught me more from 2 sessions than George has the entire course. If you are in this class, good luck.
Horrible prof, horrible lectures, not one person in my class can keep up with his boring lectures and his decomposing self. He is as old as Queen Elizabeth and is still teaching. Bro needs to retire and spend time with his family. He literally said, in class, that he does not care if students learn or not. He just rambles and stutters all class.
Not good with students
This man made an entire textbook of which the exercises don't have solutions. Hasn't taught us how to do proofs. Apparently every other tb is flawed apart from his, according to him. During the lectures he just reads off the slides instead of using the blackboard for examples. His tests and assignments are easy only if yk how to do them.
The professor is very helpful and taught us well in EECS/MATH 1028. He uses his own textbook and explains very well. He is only teaching this course atm, so his replies are fairly quick.
This prof is so bad.
He assumes that in a first year course all the students know the topic when it is our first time taking the course on a new topic. He uses terms like "obviously" and makes it difficult to ask questions. He litrelly called the class stupid for not doing good on the Mid term when it was his teaching which dropped the class average.
Did not enjoy this class at all
Look, Ima keep it a buck fifty with y'all, and I only got 75 cents to my name. Do not take this professor. This course is miserable, but this professor makes it even worse. He uses his own textbook, so there are almost no outside resources to help you. I thought I was HIM before taking this course, but was quickly humbled and had to drop.
he's hilarious but i wouldn't take him if you value your sanity
The professor is really bad at explaining concepts. He often gets grumpy when he is asked a question.
Nothing makes sense
George Tourlakis has an ego. He takes a course (discrete math) which is one of the easiest subjects and made it difficult. He purposely tries to make the class fail through many methods: "If you try to guess a answer, I will give you 0" (his own words), very heavy weighted tests, and that cannot be submitted beforehand. He also yells at questions.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, YOUR LIFE IS BE CHOPPED INTO MANY PIECES AND EATEN BY GEORGE AND HIS LITTLE DOGHIST TEXTBOOKS THAT HE WRONG HIMSELF. HE WILL TALK SMACK TO YOU WHEN U ASK QUESTIONS AND RAMBLES ABOUT HIMSELF FOR THE NETIRE LECTURE. I WOULD RATHER DROP OUT THAN LISTEN TO HIM TEACHING EVER AGAIN.
He decided that once he got tenure, he should stop caring about his job. He couldn't be bothered to put solutions to his textbook with made-up terminologies that aren't used in the mathematical realm.
This professor's explanation is very hard to understand, try your best to learn as much as possible in advance before actually taking his courses because you will not understanding anything he tells and he does NOT provide anything useful AT ALL!
The worst professor you would encounter in your life.
This professor purposely designed this course so the students fail. He literally said "If you try to guess an answer, I will give you a 0" and the tests are worth so much with very few questions; Basically one mistake can take away 8% of your grade.
I would like to see some solutions to refer to after the exercises (not to use to complete, but rather learn). I would also like to see some feedback on homework and tests.
HE has no respect for his students and think he is smarter than everyone else. The entire class failed his midterm and he blames his terrible teaching practices on the class.
Did not allow student to have his weight of midterm shifted to final exam after his family member died.
"Complete nightmare. Not only was the material presented in a confusing and disorganized manner, but the professor seemed completely disinterested in helping us understand it. He would frequently go off on tangents that had nothing to do with the subject matter, leaving us even more confused than before.
Do yourself a favour and avoid this professor at ALL COSTS. He is a waste of tuition money and has no interest in teaching the standard discrete math curriculum beside his own book.
His textbook is full of errors and makes no sense at all. It is very difficult to read and has no answers to the exercises. He just teaches to collect an easy salary. Sadly he takes his anger out on students since he couldn't make it in the industry because he is too incompetent to work there besides being an academic.
He is creepy and has an attitude towards others. Didn't allow extra time for the midterm when the alarm went off and he was risking students lives.
Does not care about his students and blames the class for failing. Class average at this time is around 38 percent.
Best Professor I have ever had. The course is okay hard but George is so damned hot. I get so horny every time when I see him. I wish he was my husband. I feel so damn good every time when I read his lovely sexy textbook.
Not the type of professor you'd go to ask for help or clear any doubts. Whatever it is, he'd throw rude attitude to anyone in his way with little to no heart. He doesn't try to teach his students in a way they'd understand or learn, and claim his "textbook" has no errors yet his notes are too difficult to understand.
THIS COURSE IS MENT TO BE HARD. alot of you are complaining without understanding the purpose of this course. The prof understands and knows his theoretical math. it is not expected for you to be capable at his level. the point of this course is to differentiate between the strong\genuinely willing and the weak/those who give up. TRY YOUR BEST.
If you got him, drop the course. Its not worth it, trust my word.
Not gonna lie he's a pretty tough prof, but a lot of it really is the subject material. He does try to keep the class interesting but tends to use an awful lot of technical lingo so it's hard to follow along at times. Tests and assignments are extremely hard. Ok prof but would not take again.
Greatest professor I have ever had. He reminds me of my deceased father.
Extremely bad professor. Doesn't know how to teach at all. If you you have any other option apart from him, TAKE IT. Only take this prof if you have NO OTHER OPTION!
He is really handsome, smart, and caring. The best professor in Canada. I never miss a lecture cuz he is just too hot. I really wanna kiss him
Trust me u will suffer for sure if you take he's classes
I like him. He is a top tier professor. He is also Elbert thoughtful and nice
I had this professor 3 years ago and I am graduating this year. He is the best professor at York. I learned the most from him. His lectures were fun and informative. I would not be where I am today without him.
I had him for eecs 1028 and math1090. He is the best professor I have ever had. He is very caring and kind to his students and always tells us what questions will be on the midterm and the final. His assignments are pretty easy if you pay attention in lectures.
I missed him a lot. I took this course with him in Winter 2008. Long story short, he encouraged me to study nonclassical and model logic. Now I am doing my Ph.D. in mathematics.
He is very helpful and funny. He helped students a lot when they are stressed out.
I got an A+ because George Tourlakis is a fantastic professor. People George is tough are just lazy to do their work. If you pay attention in every class and put in an hour of work every day for this class, you will surely get an A.
I got an A+ because George Tourlakis is a fantastic professor. People who say George is tough are just lazy to do their work. If you pay attention in every class and put in an hour of work every day for this class, you will surely get an A.
do not take this professor. Avoid at all costs unless you want to fail or barely pass.
He doesn't show any effort or enthusiasm to teach his course in a way that students are able to understand or give any feedback of what we need to improve. He'll make you feel dumb and humiliated when you have doubts to clarify. Additionally, he lacks empathy for anyone. And it's better you don't take his course in winter but in summer instead.
In his lectures, most of the time he just writes random scribbles in the blackboard which aren't always relevant to the course itself. He forces us to read HIS notes that will just leave you with eye strains and migraines because of weird wordings and colors. Plus, he doesn't give us real examples that will help us learn the material better.
He explains everything very well. Just do not skip his lectures otherwise you will be behind in the course.
Professor is a Harsh Marker with lectures and more, but gives quarter sometimes
Hes old asf.
I learned the most from this professor than any other professors. He is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are exciting and fun. The midterm and final are pretty easy. The assignments can be challenging but you can always ask him questions about them. He is pretty approachable.
I recommend all future EECS major students to take this prof. He has a natural talent for teaching. There are no better Math professors than him at York.
I was expecting a tough professor who did not care after reading some of these ratings. But I loved his class, if you're willing to work hard and pay attention in class, you should do fine.
George Tourlakis is the most underrated prof at York. He is a really good prof. His perspicuity makes his textbook and lectures easy to understand. He wrote the best Discrete Math textbook that I have ever read.
He is honestly the best professor, take any course with him if you can!!! He is so caring and genuinely wants his students to do well. He explains concepts in the best and most understanding way. He makes discrete math really fun.
The best prof I have ever had. He explains things clearly. He is also an easy marker.
I am from Mumbai India and I love George Tourlakis. He should come to India and teach us Discrete Math.
George Tourlakis is the best Math Professors I ever had. He always responds to your emails, questions, and concerns regarding midterms and assignments. He is very nice and is always available to help you during and after the lectures. If you wanna get good grades and learn new things just take George Tourlakis' classes.
This professor is built like greek god.
A student struggling with a course taught by a professor whose teaching style doesn't match her learning style should consider looking for other professors.
Worst Professor at yorku
He is so sexy!
Worst prof at york
Take any course with him. His midterms and finals are so damned easy. Almost everyone gets above 75. He is very chill and an easy prof!
Take it with this prof if you want an easy A
He is not that bad, lectures are okay. But his notes are kind of confusing (I think it is a huge disadvantage). The test and final were pretty fair. However, I did not like the grading criteria (1/3 for assignments, midterm, and final) He was nice to me if I had questions after class, and answered emails within a short period.
He is the best EECS prof at York. He always tells us what's going to be on the midterm and final. Just show up to every lecture, pay attention and you will get A+. I got an A+ in this course by doing that !
He is an easy prof. He explains things well and always tells us what's going to be on midterms and tests. His textbook is very well written and explains concepts clearly. He is the most underrated prof here at York.
People who fail his class are just too lazy to go to his lectures. If you attend every lecture, you will get 80+. This prof always tells people the questions on the midterm and final. He is the best prof I have ever had!
He's the best professor I've had: great at explaining tough concepts, gives clear exam previews, and ensures an easy A+. His textbook is excellent too!
not much to say just run
daddy george
No nice
SUPER EASY
this professor is on a power trip. he abuses his power as prof and will do anything to make his students upset. avoid at all cost
the first day of class he said all other textbooks except his were mathematically incorrect so not to use them. idk where he thinks he has the authority to say that given he has his phd in comp sci not mathematics. aslo he obnoxious
Setting the Assignment deadlines at 6:00 pm every time is awful. Give no second chance if you missed any of the assignment, no extensions either!!!
He is the best prof so far in my first year. People who fail his course are just lazy. He explains everything very well! Easy A if you study!
u will FAIL
He is a very good prof. If you pay attention to his lectures you will do fine!
Unorganized, unintelligible lectures. Uses his own incomprehensible textbook. Teaches his own theory of discrete mathematics that no one else knows and there's no resources of. Refuses to do practice questions. Doesn't assign tutorial questions for the TAs so they are completely lost. Took discrete with another Prof and the courses are not the same
Please retire and spend time with your family
Best prof at York! Take discrete math with him. Easy A+
First day of class he said every other textbook in the world was wrong, so we can only use his. His textbook is incomprehensible without his lectures. No practice problems and only a few assignments and even fewer will show up on the exam and midterm You somehow gotta prep for everything when assignments barely cover all the material AVOID!!!!!!
A very good prof. Take it with him if you can.
Yea the other reviews are pretty accurate... this guy is truly SOMETHING else man. People like him ruin education I wish he'd just get let go or retire already honestly.
Great professor - makes tough concepts easy to understand. Attend lectures, use the well-written textbook, and you'll ace the exams. unstuck study was also super helpful for review.
whatever you do, avoid at all cost his lectures do not help his notes are filled with alot of gibber and it makes it hard to understand take natasha may at all cost it does not matter how smart you are you will literally triple the amount of effort by taking him just take a look on his website alone and see for yourself please im begging you
You will learn nothing. He requires a bizzare format to answer questions which he never mentions nor teaches. He doesnt provide any practice and his theory doesnt translate to the applications in the tests and assignments If you have him, just drop it and take it in the summer or with any other prof
Barely intelligible lectures Extremely strange marking scheme and horrible textbook Isnt willing to help students and doesnt provide any questions apart from assignments which dont cover most of the material The course itself is hard but he makes it impossible
He can not teach There is nothing to help you nor prepare you. Barely tries to help you, even if you approach him in office hours. Nobody learns anything in this class and its impossible to study for Questions come out of nowhere and its impossible to prepare for. You will spend many hours trying to understand what you learnt but to no avail Avoid
His lectures are confusing and he fails to teach some of the basic pre-requisite knowledge needed for your future courses. He insists on using his textbook which is very confusing and hard to read. To put into perspective how bad he was, over half the class dropped his course and of the remaining students, two-thirds failed. Overall, terrible prof.
AVOID!!!! You will learn nothing I only passed cause of the strike and it was open book His lectures are confusing and he fails to teach some of the basic pre-requisite knowledge needed for your future courses He has expectation but never tells them such as a specifc format never taught. If you try to get help he wont help and TAs are useless. DROP
This professor is ineffective, with confusing lectures, unclear expectations, and a difficult grading system. He provides little or no support, and minimal guidance on expectations, with a specific format that is never explained. The TAs are equally unhelpful. If you can avoid at all costs. Someone said look at his website and you'll understand
His lecture are useless cuz you wont learn anything and the marking for test are so random sometime you do good sometime you do bad
If you have other prof option please choose without thinking. Worst prof ever! If you ask questions to him, you did a crime!
His course notes and textbook are completely incomprehensible. He teaches his own kind of set theory making it impossible to find resources online, and says not to use any textbook other than his own. He also never returned the final exam marks for Fall 24 term.
He uses his own set of notes as the textbook, but writes it in an unreadable way, and while teaching he never moves the slides along and just lets it sit while he does his own thing on the board, his assignments are extremely difficult. Never take discrete math with him, take it in summer or with a different professor.
this guy uses his own made up textbook that he wrote himself, to teach about math that isnt even real, yet hes the only professor there is at the university for this class, his tests and exams are completely different from what he teaches in class, and none of the examples from class are useful or anything, switch eng majors if you have to to avoid
put in the effort = good outcome, simple. dont cry about your grade if you didnt even try to do well until the last week.
All the positive comments are prof George on an anonymous account 😂... All jokes aside though, passing his class is very doable, but at a cost of losing your social life lmfao. Dude claims a certain topic will be on the test, but then whips out questions we've never seen/ aren't even in the textbook.
No denying the course is tough, and the prof sucks, however if you, on your own follow thorugh on the assignments, understand their solutions, memorize theorems&definitions&remarks you should be fine. Tutorials help, if your TA is confused tell them to go to george website and do old questions scroll down->main page->any old 1028. Asking gpt helps
Although I found the lectures challenging to follow at times, I found that reviewing the textbook and revisiting the topics after class helped everything make more sense. The textbook and notes were very helpful for doing well in the course.
Avoid if possible, any resources you find online surrounding the topic will likely not make sense with what he taught in class.
Why is this relic still teaching? He should retire and spend time with his family.
