This guy has no love for teaching and it shows
He was hilarious and rigid at the same time. I had no problem with him.
hilarious!!! very helpful - and his motto is "everything is negotioable" - you don't find many teachers like that!!!
He has done nothing but give me grief and has not helped me at all. He acts like a child and last I checked we weren't children, he needs to maybe get into a different occupation.
When the first assignment is given over the weekend the library is closed, that causes problems. He refused to consider opinions he didn't agree with. "Too bad" is is favorite catch phrase. "Too bad" is right. I'll never take a class with him again.
Really though grader
Probably the worst instructor i have ever had. He is bitter is confrontational for no apparent reason, and would greatly benefit from medication and intensive therapy. The only thing he wants you to learn is to either respect or fear him. LLCC: Fire George Vaughn before he gets you into trouble! Students: Avoid him at all costs!
I signed up for his comp. 1 class. He wrote a 1-page explanation of the first assignment, and I found 35 blatant mechanical and grammatical errors. Even worse, his last sentence said, "Finally, your essay should be grammatically and mechanically sound." I stayed in the class for 2 more weeks to see if it was a joke- he never indicated that it was.
I took the class. I thought that I would not pass the DEE, but I went to his help sessions and they helped me a great deal. His grading is hard, but he is a fair man. On-line--it is so cut and dry, but when I met him and he began to explain the work a light went off somewhere in my head. He offered a help session; it was good. People should go..
I don't like writing but the teacher is fair.

He explains stuff well.
Very helpful. No nonsense
I hate the reading assignments but the questions helped me to understand what the instructor was looking for. He is a hard grader, but will meet with you to help you even if it is on a Saturday. If you are not serious, don't take this class. You have to work for the grade.
This professor is awful!! Also I beleive that if you are a high acheiver he will try to shut you down!! Also a little bit single minded and much harder on girls than guys!!
The professor is tough but is fair.
At JHS I got Bs and As however I only get Ds in this class, the teacher is not clear and is hard. Don't take his class.
He is a tough teacher, but fair. The only people that cannot handle this class or his style of teaching cannot handle dealing with truth. - even if it is delivered in the bluntest way possible.
This teacher is not a joke. He is a mind opener. If you want to just go to school without aquiring the knowledge of writing, don't take his class. I have learned more about writing this semester than I ever would have at JHS. He makes learning at a regional campus a university experience.
He makes the works come alive. The selections were cool. Didn't know reading could be so much fun. But, if you don't read, he can give some mean quizzes.
Mr. Vaughn is the greatest professor I have ever had. He changed my life--for the better. Very strict, no nonsense, and very direct--if you slack of or produce poor work, he will tell you, fail you, and feel no remorse. He WILL however work with you, help you (if you seek it), and revolutionize your writing style, content, and clarity.
George Vaughn is one of the most passionate professors anyone will ever have! He is strict and determined. He will make you work the hardest you ever have, but it will be well worth the heartache. He is extremely blunt and cut-throat, but he is the most wonderful person you will have the honor of studying with!!! -These classes aren't for slackers!
Class went from having 21 people in it at the beggining of the semester to 3 people at then end...and he still didnt pass 2 of us
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. I went from having papers that were no lower than a 92% in my Com 099 class to his class that i can't seem to get a paper that is above a C. He also tends to be rude to his students.
STRICT!
He fails papers that others say are worth A's.
Worst teacher I've ever had. First of all, he has incredibly annoying & distracting speech mannerisms ("Am I right? Yes or no. You have to start with what? You have to start with a hook to what? You have to start with a hook to grab your what? Your audience.") He refused to honor his own late policy, and he singles out students he doesn't like.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had. He grades unfairly, singles students out, and is very unhelpful. I'd reccomend avoiding this class at all cost.
He is not an easy teacher. He is a bit much to handle but I would recommend him if you want to challenge yourself.
He is a horrible teacher. Was in a class of 30 and 5 were left after I dropped. He is very rude and will not take the time to you help you. He uses a lot of curse words also and not as jokes. He uses these curse words at students when they aren't doing what is "right".
Strict. No nonsense. Attendance is important. Once a person goes beyond two weeks they fail. He does not play about that. Has conferences regularly. Micro manage the writing. High expectations. Personally, don't like.
HORRIBLE! He constantly changes the daily schedule and due dates, which makes it pretty hard to keep up with his high demands. He always singles people out. Went from writing A/B papers in 101 to writing D papers in his class. He acts as though his class is the only one you are taking. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Great teacher. I always knew what to expect. He updated the calendar regularly to accomodate the needs of class. I hated turning my work electronically but got use to it. I hated all the conferences but they were worth it. If you did not turn in drafts prior to conference, he would not see you because he expected to have a professional meeting.
Most o the people complain about his approach. He has rules and his expectations are high. I have learned more in this class than I have in all my years of high school. I feel like and know I will be prepared for the next level of writing. My only complaint: Too many D_ _ N conferences. LOL
Hate him, got my paper back, got less then when i was high schools. he grade 2 hard. who needs to no all this 2 get a job, stay clear.
He is the absolute worst teacher i have had in my life-- not an exaggeration. I have had my fair share of awful teahcers but he is by far the worse. He gives contradicting comments every time i showed him my paper. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
DO NOT make the mistake I made in taking his class. He is a horrible professor and is mean 95% of the time for no reason. He grades very hard. He is not specific about the guidelines for what he wants you to do. I had close to 30 people in my class at the beginning and now have 11 or 12... we're a little over halfway done. That says a lot.
Hard class but learned more about writing than I have in twelve years of high school. I did not know how to write a thesis but now I have an idea how to write and develop one. If you do not have work ready, he will not conversate with you. Overall quirky and straightforward teacher. You have to follow directions to the t to survive this couse.
Don't take his class.
Do not take his class. He is the hardest grader I have ever experienced. He gave me a C on my final essay and all he said was wrong with it was that I used an example that was to recent in history, i did not capitalize a few words, and i left a nonscholorly source out of my paper. i almost did not pass because of the chip on his shoulder. AVOID HIM
Mr. Vaughn is an awesome teacher. He is very strict, a harsh grader, very demanding, but an excellent instructor. If you can, you should ask him for help outside of class. He is willing to help you, and will guide you into becoming a better writer. Most people who hated this class did not pay attention, or were they were just terrible at writing.
He is very unclear and you ask to clarify he usually just repeats what he says or talks about a complete different thing. He might have good information to give but he is so unclear with wording and with lessons, I know as much as I did before I took the class. He is extremely rude to everyone. Too stressful for a 101 class.
So far, he has been as excellent teacher! He is strict with his grading and attendance, but he is a college professor. I think a lot of these negative comments came from students that still need breast fed. I would recommend him to a someone that isn't scared of the work that comes with being educationally stimulated. And he's quite humerous, too.
Do not take this class!
It is true, he is a very strict professor. This is a college class one should expect to be treated at a higher level. By far one of the best professors I've encountered. Tells you what he wants and what you need to do. Get your reading done and do as he outlines in his syllabus and an 'A' is not out of reach.
This class was by far one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He's a tough grader very strict on attendance. Mr. Vaughn truly doesn't care about the students' success IN THE CLASS. He incorporates fear into his lessons which really didn't work for me. If you want to do well on a paper don't ask Mr Vaughn for help, go to the writing center!
The class was hard. I learned more about writing than in high school. He taught us strategies about writing--never heard of definition by negation or rhetorical pile-up until this class. He insisted we call strategies by name. He insisted on MLA. Even though I learned much, I will not miss him for EGL 102.
One of hardest teachers I have ever tried to deal with, his grading criteria was unclear until after you turned your paper in, then he made sure to tell you what you did wrong. He's great at telling you what not to do, but lacks on what to do. He made it clear the first day of class that you'll have to bend over backwards for him,
Kicks people out of class frequently, very unclear, and has an ego
Vaughn is a very fun guy. If your are not prepared for plan you shouldn't even show up to class. He will help you but he won't breast feed you.
Biggest ego I've ever encountered. Rude. Unjustified grades on every paper. This teacher just makes me angry walking into class for the day. AVOID
I would not suggest taking this class. He has a huge ego and will hardly help you at all and gives no second chances. I feel that he just wants to fail everyone in the class. I would not recommend this teacher.
One of the most difficult teachers and classes. He gets angry when students ask questions even though he contradicts his own instructions frequently. He is all or nothing with grading. You could get a 100%, but one mistake could get you a 0. Several students in my class have already gone to the Dean with complaints. Would never recommend.
The class is hard. But I learned about writing and lit. DO NOT TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU ARE A POOR WRITER. THE TESTS ARE CHALLENGING.
He expects students to know alot. I came from 099 and he made me use what I had learned and he has taught me more. The class is super hard but I expect to pass. I hate writing alot.
Very rude. Calls people out in class and will not put in extra help to help students. Think students know everything and wont teach completely.
He only allows to skip a certain number of days, after you hit the limit it is an automatic fail. He is rude and kicks multiple students out of class per day. You are expected to know exactly how to write before you come to this class because his help is extremely vague and changes constantly.
He is a great professor! I took a 099 class that was a nightmare. Within the first month I learned more from Mr. Vaughn than I did in a 099 class. Expect to work hard and don't listen to other critics. He is an awesome professor and I will come back for 102! Skip class and you'll fail (I've seen it). I don't like writing papers but he makes its fun
George Vaughn has taught me a lot. I took two of his classes, COM 101 and LIT 113, and it was tough both time. He is tough on you because the real world is going to be much worse. If you cannot handle a true college class at this level go elsewhere. You will learn from him and I do consider him to be one of my best professors from LLCC.
I know that Vaughn is not well liked at LLCC. I received an A in his class after being out of high school for 20 years. All he expects for you to do is show up, pay attention, and do your absolute best. If you take Mr. Vaughn follow instructions and do diligence and you will get an A.
Rude, very unclear when giving assignments and hates women. Singles people out often, cusses and name calls. Started with about 25 ended with less then 10 students, some of which he kicked out in the middle of class including one person because she espoused a feminist ideology.
I took EGL 101 with Prof. Vaughn Fall 2014. I saw what people had said on this website but decided to sign up for his class anyway. That was a big mistake. It's almost as if his goal is to see how many people will drop his class. We started with 29 people and ended with 11. Stay away from Vaughn.
The worst teacher I literally have ever encountered. I wrote my proposal which he rejected it and put the most rude comments back on it. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you have other classes, a job, kids or a life. He is extremely hard grader. And expects you to know EVERYTHING! Why even go to class if you expect us to know everything..... So ridiculous
Did not have stuff for peer reveiw. Got thrown out, thought I paid for the class, shoulda been able to stay bc of that reason. Did not care if I had to work
He's an extremely tough grader and doesn't offer much help. expects you to know nothing but doesn't offer help, he just tells you what to do and sends you on your way. If you miss four class periods he will kick you out or make you want to drop by giving you an "F" on all papers
one of the worst teachers i have ever had to encounter. please take all of these reviews into consideration, i sure wish i would have. now i am struggling to pass and getting D's on every paper i turn in.
Vaughn is awful. He is one of the worst teachers I've ever encountered, and he hates students. He tells you from the start he doesn't care about you. I had strep throat with a doctors note and everything and he still singled me out in class and started yelling about how important it is not to miss class. He doesn't make instructions clear at all.
Not a good teacher at all. Encourages students to drop his class and makes it clear he doesn't care. Probably the worst professor i have had, avoid taking any of his classes. His lectures are short and about nothing. I was in the hospital with exuses and everything and he singled me out for missing 4 days and harassed me into dropping his class.
Vaughn's class started off at an average amount, and the semester is not even over and it is down to 7 kids in the class. Worst grader by far, one time he is very easy, next he gives a failing grade. Attendance is mandatory or he will drop you from the class. Also the syllabus is always changing, he doesn't give you an official one ever.
Vaughn doesn't care about content, just that you follow his very unclear rules. I failed a paper, and I don't think he even ready it. It wasn't in Times New Roman and my works cited wasn't in alphabetical order. They were very stupid mistakes, I know. But, it was one of the best papers I've ever written.
George Vaughn is a character, that is for sure. Very unclear and strict in his ways. Very vague about assignments. Tests were challenging but fun. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who hasn't taken EGL 1 and 2.
Tough grader. I learned a lot about literature and the world from a global perspective. PowerPoint were helpful and the reading was different thean my other lit classes.
Tough semester. Class participation is important. Just do your work and be prepared. Or it will be rough.
Prof. Vaughn is not playing games. He's pretty up front about the fact that any class he teaches is going to be hard. Attendance is a must or you will be withdrawn. He is not as mean as he likes to come off, but he is a tough grader. I actually enjoy his quirky humor (most do not). He is often a bit blunt and harsh. Challenging professor.
Mr. Vaughn, quite possibly be the worst instructor I have ever had. He was not clear at all about any assignment, when I asked him for help he just belittled me and my ability. He is rude and says many times how little he cares about his students. I'm dropping this class as soon as I can and would rather have summer school with a different teacher.
Started taking class. Told me to stop telling off on myself that I did not read. I Asked if Jim Crow was a man. He did not answer but kept teaching bout how we need examples in the introduction. Thought that was rude. Going to be along semester. Hate writing alot.
I had Professor Vaughn for both EGL 101 & 102 and he really helped me out. From leaving the military and diving into school was a challenging feat none the less, but with his wisdom in writing and his passion for the subject really helped me out. Now I am transferring to a University in Chicago and couldn't be where I am now if it wasn't for him
This teacher is HORRIBLE. He grades papers based on how he personally feels towards the subject. He expects way too much out of the students (it us an intro class). Had to drop out last semester because I was failing. I am currently getting an A in the same class with a different teacher. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS TEACHER!!!!!
Had Vaughn for semester one. Thought the grading was harsh but it was for my best. Got to EGL102 with Emmons and did not struggle as much as some of my friends. Could "of" done better in both but A&P was priority.
Many of my friends said don't take him. But I am glad I did. If you don't want to learn to write beyond Lincoln Land don't take him. I am currently at ISU and still use what I learned in ENG II to write formal essays. I could not stand him when I was in his class but he knew best about writing. For all you all complainants, chillax. Lol
I will never take a class with him ever again and I actually go out of my way to warn others as well. This man is seriously horrible. His class, his lecture, his organization skills. Everything-- horrible. I was scared to go to class everyday because you don't know if you're the one he's going to pick on that day. I had no choice but to drop.
It's been a couple of years since I had Mr. Vaughn. He's not for everyone, but if you are wanting to major in English, then take him. He'll prepare you for upper-level English classes. Papers were tough (I think our final was 6-8 pages), tests were essay format (3 tests; each took 2 class periods), and he can be harsh. It's worth it, though.
I am presently taking EGL 101. This class has been hard. My high schoolteachers did not prepare me for college writing. I have learned more about writing this semester than I did in high school. My grade will be a C in this class but I earned it and have learned. Mr. Vaughn is hard but fair. I feel prepared enough to go on. Tough Grader
George is funny and caring, but do not get on his bad side. He is ruthless when it comes to kids who do not show up and follow every small rule. Show up to class and participate. Make sure you turn in your papers earlier than he asks and do the homework reading he assigns. He will test you.
I wouldn't say I didn't learn anything from Vaughn but I won't be taking another class with him. He could care less about his students. He is also arrogant. He once kicked half of my class out for not reading an article that he failed to provide page numbers for and proceeded to say it wasn't his fault. I would recommend avoiding his classes.
unless you are majoring in English don't take him.. he will fail your paper for missing one day of peer review. he is pretty rude.
I took George Vaughn this semester. All the people that said he was hard to get along with lied. People said don't take him but I did. I got an A and learned a whole lot a about writing. Don't skip class and you won't fail. Do the work, which is a lot, and you might pass. Read the text and you can have good conversation. I passed. LOL
While I did learn a few things in his class, it was my worst classroom experience ever. He doesn't seem to understand that everyone has different writing styles. If you love conforming to a ridiculously high standard, then he's the professor for you. If you like more leeway for self-expression, pick someone else.
Make sure you check Blackboard every day. Sometimes Professor Vaughn may change the class schedule, deadlines, and reading assignments with very little notice. A lot of people portray Professor Vaughn in a negative light but he's not so bad as long as you participate and pay extra attention.
Vaughn is the toughest grader I have ever had and expects so much out of your attendance. However, he makes sure you know the importance of it all in the end. Hated him up until the last couple weeks of class, but now I realize his lessons are some of the most valuable I'll have in my schooling.
He was probably one of the hardest graders I have ever had and I hated him all through the semester until the last few weeks. He is now one of my favorite teachers. Yes he grades tough, but he grades fairly. He expects you to show up to class and do the work, but his goal is to make you a better writer. One on one he is very helpful.
Worst teacher I've ever had. You will not learn a thing in his course besides making a very good outline. He and i think every other English teacher at LLCC Expect you to already know how to write a paper ( I've gone to SIUC a well and the same exact course down there is grammar and reading). by the end of the semester 4 people were left.
Follow his instructions on assignments and you'll be fine. Prof. Vaughn respects hard work. I learned the hard way about not following instructions (failed midterm paper) but I worked hard and ended up getting a solid B. Very good teacher and will acknowledge quality effort.
He respects hard work. If you go to conference and ask questions and make the changes to your paper that he suggests, and show up to class and pay attention, you will do fine
He likes to make a big deal how this class "ain't highschool." There were times where I was inspired by whatever the lecture was on but he grades too harshly-especially on freshmen. Get your reading done for the day (including the first day) or he will kick you out. Which I found the most ridiculous and a waste of your/his time.
I got an email from Vaughn and it said that i have missed 6 classes but on my last check i had one so how does that add up? I wasn't in class that one day because my step dad had open heart surgery and he didn't care about it all and didn't show an respect for my family! Worst teacher doesn't help at all and doesn't care for his students! DONA TAKE
This professor is the absolute worst educator I have every experienced. He is very condescending to the point of being rude. He has sign up sheet to see him during office hours that is perpetually full. He enjoys abusing the control over a young person's future. When a student can get to him to ask for direction, he belittles them. Run away, fast.
THE worst professor I have ever had. Comp 101 is an introduction course and it was by far the most stressful class of my academic life. He is rude, arrogant, and incredibly vague about what he actually expects students to deliver. He gives an assignment with different information in 6 places and gets incredulous if you are confused. RUN AWAY
so rude!
By far, the hardest teacher I have ever had. But I learned what high school teachers should have taught me. Did not write papers in high schools, only read novels and watched movies. No movies in this class--reading and analyzing what we read to see what makes exceptional writing. Must read to pass and think through assignments. Learned a lot
He is very hard to please. He told me our class that every way we have been taught to write a paper is wrong and he used rules I have never even heard of before. Basically, if you can read his mind on what he wants then that's the only way you're going to do stellar in his class.
Professor Vaughn has a strong personality. Either you'll like him or you won't. He is a stickler for making sure your work is concise and complete. Do your homework, don't complain and put effort into your writing and you'll be fine. Don't skip class either because you might not like the consequences.
I wouldn't recommend taking a class with professor Vaughn. While he does provide some teaching about the class, he often makes the essay assignments confusing. It is difficult to understand what you are expected to write about. Documents he posts are worded awkwardly. I would read and re-read and still not provide my essay in the "STYLE" he wanted.
After reading most of his reviews Im forced to laugh. If you plan to move on to a 4 year university this class will be your standard. At most universities you will be flunked for skipping, no one cares if you get sick, and no one is going to hold your hand for assignments. This isnt high school anymore its time to grow up.
Pretty hard but worth it
Super tough grader, gave terrible feedback, didn't learn anything by his lecture or slides, if he doesn't agree with your point of view he doesn't like that paper. Had lots of help from other professors, I got F's on papers they said were very good.
Dr. Vaughn is very serious about his job and the material he is teaching. The course is difficult, but if you show up to class and pay attention to his lectures you will learn a lot. He is always willing to help in conferences and office hours if you put forth the effort. The class is difficult but will prepare you for higher level English courses.
Prof. Vaughn claims to be accessible to all of his students but makes asking him for help an ordeal the whole class must participate in, and it becomes a horrendously anxiety-inducing experience, that in the end is helpful to some extent, but makes you feel stupid. Do not take this class if you aren't willing to work hard for your A. I know I did.
He seems really cool at first but if he doesn't like you he grades you badly and his feedback is not very specific unless you go in and talk to him but outside of conferences this is very difficult. He also does not give good instructions.
I loved taking his class. He's a strict professor but that doesn't mean he's bad. He will talk with you and give honest feedback and advice. It was clear to me he doesn't want anyone to fail and that makes a big difference. Just do what he says, do your homework, and all will be well.
Mr. Vaughn is not a good teacher. He is incredibly vague with his prompts and grades his papers poorly. Idk if he even read my first paper, his comments were only on my topic sentence. It's almost if he takes pride in making people feel less intelligent than him. In class people will answer his questions and they will always be wrong. Big Regrets.
He's a great teacher but definitely a strict grader. He will always give you honest feedback but sometimes, brutally honest feedback. All in all, a great teacher.
Horrible
This professor is unprofessional, rude, full of himself, and has even insulted students with hateful remarks in ways that no professor should. The only thing I took away from this class is that your professor makes a huge difference in the quality of education that you are paying for. Don't take his class, you'll regret it, even if you pass.
Very harsh grader and does not explain the expectations for students well. Not easily accessible outside of the classroom and does not offer much help with essays
Every project was an academic paper; there was no diversity in assignments. Harsh grader and does not give helpful feedback. Very tough for Comp101. Throughout the course, I had major anxiety due to his demeaning manner toward students. Very fixed on his personal opinions. Speaking up in class is mandatory for participation. Does not teach well.
Very disrespectful to his students. Switches on material at the last minute. Gives terrible feedback. "Teaches" a speech class, but doesn't accept any communication or opinions in class.
He is very harsh and it seems that he wants his students to fail. He believes his opinion is the only correct answer. He has "mercy" and "justice" and grades harshly.
I had him for speech, and hes much better with speech than with english from what ive heard, however, better still doesnt mean good. hes condescending and oftentimes rude to his students or makes them feel stupid for asking a question. his instructions are often vague and he grades very harshly. also lack of responsibility for his own mistakes.
George Vaughn is the worst professor I have ever had in my college career. He is incredibly rude, condescending, and disrespectful in ways that no professor should be. If that doesn't speak for itself, here's what he said when it was time for evaluations: "Y'all can say whatever you want about me. I'll still have a job next semester." Unbelievable.
I nearly failed his class. I have never tried harder in any other class and I still managed to never meet his expectations. He would fail the whole paper if he thought your thesis was bad/wrong. Go to class and pay attention. Definitely try to get on his good side. He plays favorites. Avoid him at all costs.
Just simply not a quality professor. Everything about the classes suck. The lectures.. the assignments, more specifically, the rubric for the assignments. Your thesis is going to suck. But it's okay because his suck too. He has a bad attitude all the time... like he doesn't want to be there anymore than you do.
He might be one of the hardest professors you'll ever have. He's strict and doesn't put up with excuses. But when the class is over, you'll have a lot of respect for what he's doing. He cares and pushes you to be better. A lot of students will not succeed in his classes. If you want to (actually) learn and become a better writer, take his class.
Definitely a college professor. He can seem intimidating, and he is, but for good reasons. Strict grader, knows what he is looking for. He has been the best college professor I have had, even though the course was hard. If you are looking to be a better speaker, and actually learn, take his speech course.
I took with speech with him. I had maybe 10 assignments total that determined my grade, but there were a lot of opportunities for extra credit. His grading criteria is clear and he doesn't deviate from that, so if you just do exactly what he asks you will probably be fine. Little room for creativity in your speeches and outlines.
Tell me why this professor has prohibited topics that we can not talk about in a SPEECH CLASS. It's the smallest thing starting from school dress code to old people not driving the speed limit. As adults in this class, we need to talk about topics such as mental health, drug abuse, and many other concerning topics. But no absolutely PROHIBITED.
If you get him as a teacher, SWITCH. He is mean to people and blames it on his "personality." Do yourself a favor and GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN.
He's strict when grading outlines and presentations, takes off points for thesis, eye contact, fidgeting, "um/like/yeah," which is all hard to remember when presenting in front of people. But it takes the bare minimum to pass this class. Lots of students won't put in the work or ask questions, but then blame the teacher for why they're failing.
Terrible professor. Extremely rude and degrading when giving feedback. Has a whole list of prohibited topics when it's a speech class....? When you have any questions he is dismissive and rude. Do not recommend at all.
George Vaughn is a great teacher! The only work for his class are just his speeches. After a speech he will ask you what you think you deserve and will take you through his grading rubric and let you grade yourself and he will compare it with what he thinks you deserve and he is a very good speaker. He will not fail you if you actually try.
Absolutely awful. There's only like 10 assignments which makes up between 5-25% of your total grade per assignment, therefore if you miss more than a few assignments your grade is essentially screwed. Try not to have medical/personal issues taking this class. Doesn't seem to care about his students or his job. All the negative reviews are accurate.
Gave me a 70% on a speech and the only thing he said was wrong with it was that I didn't use enough eye contact. Do not take if you have nerves/speech anxiety. The final and midterm were not related to anything we had learned at all, and couldn't find the answers even in the textbook afterwards.
Absolutely terrible, breaks you down in grading with only five assignments getting graded. Lack of direction in doing assignments received poor grades but was never told what was wrong about it. Do not take any of his classes.
Vaughn was the worst professor I have ever had. He is very condescending and rude. His class is extremely hard. Most of his assignments are unclear and if he does not agree with what you said he will give you a 0. He will not give any effort to help outside of class. He gives unclear feedback on assignments. Overall worst experience of any teacher.
You can try your best and it still won't be good enough. So good luck!
Makes rude comments on work you have done, felt very disrespected this whole semester. Is not considerate of your time at all, thinks his class is my only priority.
He is by far the worst professor I have had. He grades very harshly and when you ask him for help he dismisses you. When it came to talking about attendance he said he would not excuse you for missing class if a loved one died and you had to go to their funeral. He specifically said "it is just another dead person. Who cares".
By far the worst professor I have ever seen or had. He was disrespectful to me and other students, and his grading made little to no sense. If you want to keep your GPA up, do NOT take George Vaughn.
He does not truly care if you fail the class, and straight out tells the class that nobody will receive an A in his class. Makes rude jokes or comments to students at times, and has countless students cry or drop out of his class. If you mention something he did wrong he gets defensive and makes it seem like you made the problem, not him.
I highly suggest to switch from Vaughn if you're able. Vaughn makes this class more difficult than it already is. He is condescending, careless, and rude. Also, extremely unapproachable and unhelpful. Don't bother questioning a grade because he might just lower it more than it already is. I received my lowest grades ever from this class.
Extremely condescending and rude. He is NOT approachable or helpful at all. I am not sure why he is allowed to continue teaching when I was told by the Dean of his office that this is known behavior and that he has been reported before
I took his speech class online, so I am not sure what he is like in person, but he is unclear about his criteria (the syllabus is disorganized) and a condescending *** on an ego trip. Avoid him at all costs. I have reported him to LLCC.
Avoid Vaughn's class if possible. He's quite condescending and unhelpful, making the already difficult material even harder. Though the textbook is used, attending lectures offers little value. Unstuck AI and other study tools proved more useful than Vaughn's teaching.
I would not recommend Professor Vaughn as a professor. You are better off taking COM under someone else. His grading is very harsh, but honest. He will work with you if communicate with him, but he comes off very condescending. You're only able to miss six classes of his for attendance. I was very stressed about my speeches. Better off w/ s1 else.
This dude is a bad teacher don't take him. If you don't have a good head on your shoulders, this is not the place to go for a class.
I took him for CMN101, his class is way harder than it needs to be, especially compared to the other CMN101 Class. Outside of class, he's a very stand up guy, his classes were fun, but he's a VERY tough grader. There's only about 5 speeches, the first 2 are the easiest. But by the final speech, i had to spend 3 days finding a topic that he approved
The only pro of this class is the book being provided online for free... I have never seen a more hard-headed, inflexible, and in my opinion, incompetent educator in my life. He teaches nothing that is not readily available within the book. Will mark you down in grade for any absence regardless of cause. Extremely unhelpful.
I have had a lot of difficult professors during college. But this one takes the cake so far. He is not a difficult instructor in a good way. He has unclear instructions, and no helpful feedback. A lot of his feedback is petty rather than how you can do better on your next assignment. He does not respond to emails in a timely manner. Good luck.
If you have questions about this teacher's material or assignments, good luck getting a helpful answer. His answers are condescending, and unclear. I don't feel like any of my questions have been answered. His class is stressful and his attitude makes it worse. Do your best, it won't be enough.
This was the hardest class I think I have ever taken, he made inappropriate comments but won't take any responsibility, he is a very hard grader, and if you don't do the extra credit you'll fail. He is the worst teacher ever and needs to be fired immediately
Run away please run away he won't approve your topic unless he likes it and he will not give you a clear answer why. He will grade this like you've been giving speeches your whole life. We had a full class at the start of the semester by the end we had 8 out of 25. RUN AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!
Very derogatory and degrading to young adults trying to get their coll
This dude is not a good professor. He is power hungry and looks down upon students. Pulled me aside at the end of class one day, and told me he was going to fight me if I missed another class. I was not over the allowed six day absences either. Wish I was joking. Don't take any classes with him. He is not a good professor and shouldn't have a job.
Do you want a professor who uses AI to create sloppy prompts for your assignments that are incomprehensible? A professor who will take a week to respond to emails for clarification on the AI Slop prompts? A professor that doesn't clarify when and if he responds? Then this is for you. No clue how he got the job, hope he's unemployed soon.
Awful teacher
VERY rude towards students, especially when they ask for help on an assignment. On the first day of class, he told us we needed to contact the dean if we had any issues with him because he's always getting reported. That's when I knew he was not going to be a good professor. Also told us that he would not give us any mercy when it came to grading.
If only there wasn't a word count.... Sheesh. He expects WAY too much WAY too soon. I barely survived getting an A from the speeches, BUT THEN he also had to give the world's hardest multiple-choice final, which screwed me. He's unclear about instructions and rude, which is such a great way to help students learn. Canvas is VERY disorganized. UGHH.
Never again. I had to drop his class because of his attitude. He spoke to me (a grown woman) like I was in middle school. And he's not tech savvy at ALL. He should not be able to run an online class.
Vaughn is easy to dislike if you don't do the work. I showed up every day and did the work on time and we had no issues with each other. If you respect him and his time, you will be fine. People say he's terrible but he is just an average college professor. You just need to be mature and understanding with him.
The conduct was belligerently unprofessional. Snide remarks were made about my submissions, arguments to the contrary are rendered useless when he waives his 4 English majors in your face. Hard requirement for 6 audience members is impractical, bordering on cruel for an online course. Consider looking for another instructor/waiting until next sem.
By far the worst professor I've had. Unrealistic expectations for an online public speaking class with extremely harsh grading. Instructions were unclear, yet you were still penalized for not meeting them. Feedback was rude and unhelpful. Stressful, frustrating, and taught me almost nothing. Seriously, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Teacher is useless.
This instructor is unclear in his instructions. He is prejudiced and will actively attempt to fail or force to drop students he doesn't like. He posts assignments with improper due dates and inserts assignments without instructions. He violates the Americans with Disabilities Act.
