Dr. V. is great at explaining info, makes class interesting. I've heard this class was hard and I was hesitant when I took it, but he explains everything to a tee and I ended up with an A.
This class rocks!
Easy class, all you have to do is study reading assignments and post some of your reactions in the discussion forum online. You get pratice tests prior to exams. Lots of extra credit.
I love Dr. Vollweiler. He made class fun and entertaining especially when we were learning some dry material. He is an amazing professor. I'd like to take more classes with him.
Cool class, pay attention to every rant that he goes on because most likely it will be on the test (its fifty/fifty lecture/book). Overall, cool man, class, and a lot of fun. I made a B+. His lecture outlines are helpful, but take good notes anyway, I mean write down everything! DO NOT ignore the practice exams.
Great professor. Makes an interesting class and tests are fair. Gives opportunities for extra credit and labs and participation really boost your grade. They are more than half your grade. He's always willing to help students out who approach him.
Dr. V. Gets an A in my book. He exudes knowledge, but isn't intimidating.
Very interesting and easy course. Do the readings, do discussions, take the exams (you get the questions before the exam), and you'll do well.
Dr. Vollweiler was easy to get along with. You know exactly what to expect from him and what he expects from you at the start of the semester. I loved the course and the professor. Loved all those fossils.
I'm taking this online this summer. Dr. Vollweiller requires six discussions and six small exams. You also can earn extra credit. Dr. Vollweiller was extremely helpful when I needed help. His response to emails was almost instant. When I forgot the exam deadline and explained why he let me make it up the next day. AWESOME!
This guy is mad chill and mad EASY. All of it is online and everyone uses the buddy system to take the tests.
Dr. V. is a great professor. You can tell he is passionate about teaching and anthropology. He is willing to answer a lot of questions and takes whatever time is necessary to explain the information thoroughly. He's very accepting... told me it's fine if I believe God is behind evolution. Very interesting class, but not easy so don't skip class.
I loved the class and I love Dr. V. Best class and professor ever :)!
I took this during summer A online. Its easy if you study the text and practice exams. If not, your grade will suffer. Dr. V.was wonderful and very supportive.
Had Dr. V. For summer A term. Great class because of subject (Human sexuality), and he made it a charm with his reassurances and support.
I took this for the communication requirements with low expectations and was very surprised to become passionate about this. This guy is probably the best professor I've had. It was also the most stress free class ever because Dr. V's expectations are very clear and he gave us a lot of study tools. The labs were fun too.
Dr. Vollweiler made me switch my major to anthropology. He tries to make every class exciting. If you go to class every day and pay attention, and study the practice exams, its easy to get at A requires reading the textbook as well. He adjusts grades if exam questions turn out to be tricky. Great Prof!
Because I did this online, I had limited interaction with Dr. V., but he seemed to be student oriented. My advice is to stick to his study schedule that he posts in the Angel calendar because it helped me a lot with the research and term paper he assigned. His exams are fair and based on reading practice exams. Study his term paper instructions!
I enjoyed this class. Vollweiller was interesting and enthusiastic. You'll get a taste of anthro from human evolution to forensics. I highly recommend.
BEST CLASS AND TEACHER EVER! I took the campus version; no term paper. Instead we had labs and several small homework assignments.
Great teacher!
Dr. V. and the class is awesome. Interesting, clear, and got me interested in anthropology - I switched my major to anthropology b/c of him.
Dr. V. has been the best professor I've had at SFC! He posts cture outlines online meaning you don't ha to copy the slides. He never reads the slides and provides interesting comments/annecotes His class actually made e want to minor in anthropology. He's awesome. Take this class if possible!
Love him! Great prof with lots of enthusiasm. Go to class, review notes and pratice exams (exams are 50% lecture/50% readings) and you will get an A. If you are lazy take something else or aim for a C. Very laid back class in my opinion. Interesting lectures. Highly recommend.
dR. v. IS A GREAT PROFESSOR. hE LOVES HIS SUBJE AND IS EXTREMELY INTERLIIGENT. HE ALSO DOESN'T TEACH STRAIGHT OFF THE SLIDES, SO I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING TO CLASS. HIGHLY RES A GEN ED CLASS!
I very much enjoyed the course, he's obviously very passionate alogy and it rubs off when you listen to him lecture. The class can be difficultand time consuming but by no means unreasonable. Take home projectsreally help you get a feel fotr the field. His personality makes the class!
Very good class, very helpful and very funny , a great class for an elective...I almost switched my major because of this class. Gov Scott and my folks changed my mind.
He is very passionate about his class and it rubs off. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and Dr. V. He really made a student want to learn.
I took this class online with Dr. Vollweiler who was very helpful and made the class a joy. There are six 25 question exams and he gives you access to his exam question bank to study the book in preparation for the exams. There is also a lot of extra credit, but you have to work for it.
The class was a lot of fun, and I loved Dr. V.
The tests are very hard if you do not use his pretest exam bank. You must go to class as well if you want to get an A or B.
I COULD HAVE DEFINATELY STUDIED MORE FROM THE BOOK WITH HIS PRATICE EXAM BANK. hE MAKES THE TESTS 50/50 WITH LECURE AND BOOK, SOMETIMES THEY OVERLAP. tHE EXTRA CREDIT MADE ME ABLE TO GET AN A WITH JUST THE LECTURE MATERIAL, SO GO TO CLASS!
Fabulous professor and great class. Extremely helpful professor and the class smokes.
Exams require true knowledge of the reading but he gives extra credits which saved my grade! Loved Dr.V.
I made C's on the exams but I attended class, kept up with lectures, I was able to earn lots of participation credits and extra credits and ended up with an A. Class is cool!
Dr. V. is a fabulous professor. He is an extremely well-learned individual who shows compassion for students and knowledge of the subject matter. He is extremely helpful with almost anything and takes time to talk to you about anything. One of the best profesors to walk on this earth.
I took this online but saw him in his office. He is kind of old but still has that twinkle in his eyes. He is a truly great professor. I'm so happy I took this class. You have a good amount of reading, but it is awesome stuff and his comments in discussions really make you think.
Dr. Vollweiler is the best teacher I EVER had. I learned soooooo much in his class. Its not an easy class, but I really enjoyed it.
Great teahcer. Very enthusiastic about the subject. He openl welcomes debate and questioning in the class which makes it a very interesting experience. Attendance to the lecture is definately a must, ut by attending you will almost definately get an A.
He is very passionate about this class and does not like people who are on their phones or leave early at all. But, he is a great professor and great to listen to. The class was very eye-opening!
He is an excellent professor & very passionate about his work. He is a rarity in the sense that is not only knowledgable about the subject mjatter but also a very gifted teacher, I appeciated the well-organized, structured nature of the course, If you seek to learn, not just pass with an easy A, you should have no pob lem in this class.
TAKE THIS CLASS!Dr. Vollweiller is the best professor at SFC. He is enthusiastic about his subject and has many differnet ways of conveying the information; never a boring class. Take good notes, read the assignments, and come to class...he takes attendance and givesd participation credits and you'll do fine. Got a good grade and learned a lot!
I had a great spring semester with Dr. V. He is easy if you read the text and other assignments. So if you don't want to read, don't take this professor. You also have to go to class because he grades participation. Important: check the syllabus how he defines participation. He doesn't count dead bodies!
I loved loved loved Dr. V. and human origins!
I attended this during the spring semester. Dr. V. is a great professor and his class was one of the best I had at SFC. There is a lot of reading to do and he likes people to be prepared. Class exercises are very interesting and tons of fun. GO TO CLASS AND DO THE HOMEWORK! IT REALLY helps!
I'm taking Dr. V. online this semester. The online discussions are fun but you must pay attention to the discussion instructions. He gives lots of feedback to help you improve. Exams are based on reading assignments and he gives you access to his exam question bank to study the text for exams. Was extremely helpful when I came to his office with
Attendance is pretty mmuch required if you want to pass. However, he's enthusiastic and manages to keep pretty difficult subect material interesting. Fair grader, gives opportunities for extra credit, and has a clear, personable teaching style.
I love this prof. To get a good grade, take good notes, read the assignments, study the practice exams, come to class (he takes attendance and grades participation), and you'll do fine. Got an A in this class and I learned a lot.
LOVED this class. Very interesting, he makes it that way. He is fun and reasonable. Tests are difficult if tyou don't take practice exams. Must attend class for participation credits. He gives extra credit. Class was not easy but exciting.
Dr. V. is an awesome teacher. His class is fun and interestng. He's compassionate, funny, and very knowledgeable. My major is now anthropology. It's a great class.
Really nice teacher, one of the best I had. He likes helping students in class and office hours. The class wasn't boring and I looke forward to going to class. Definately recommend taking this class with him.
Dr. V. Is a good professor and he definitely knows what he is talking about. The only problem is that he talks to his students like we are already professionals at the subject. The way to get a decent grade is by going to class.
Dr. V. is extremely knowledgable and funny! You have to go to class, attendance is mandatory and linked to participation credits. You should go to class anyway to do well on exams. Super nteresting class!
I took this online and occasionaly needed his help during office hours. He was very patient and helpful. Gradeds are based on online exams covering textbook chapters and on discussion contributions. Pay asttention to discussion instructions and his feedback!
I loved the online discussion with the other students in class. He will chime in as well if he thinks you are on the wrong track. Read the feedback he post for all discussion entries! I also liked his practice exams; definately use them 'cause that's how I earned my A. He gives lots of feedback!Very nice guy.
There IS a lot of reading but if you apply yourself you'll do alright. You come out of the class learning a lot. He gives a lot of extra credit. Study the practice exams. Awesome teacher.
Amazing class!! There is a loyt of work though and he ewxpects you to know what he lectured about and assigned you to study. Do not take this if you want an easy A. He's more than willing to meet with you and work with you to make sure you understand the material. If you show up class and study you will be fine. One of the best profs I've had!
Great class! The material is difficult but it's a nice and unexpected challenge. He seems really to care about his students and makes. Highly recommend.
Fun teacher. Don't sleep in class or he will make fun of you. He really likes the subjects that he teaches and tries to make even the boring stuff as interesting as possible. I never thought lice could tell us anything about our evolution! Gives 5 short exams which are pretty easy if you study. Each test has a comprehensive practice exam-use it!
Dr. V. is excited about anthropology; it rubs off. He has a tendency to jump around when gets talking about things. The course is admittedly a bit challenging, and it is imperative that you go to class to hear lectures in addition to doing the reading. He's willing to help and will try to learn your name. Take this if you can!
Nice guy and interesting class. His tests aren't too bad if you go to classes and do his practice exams. Very fair grading! Lots of credits based on participation in labs and exercises. Enjoyed this a lot.
I love, love, love Dr. V. He was very understanding when I had to miss class because of family problems (although he insisted on documentation). He freely gives feedback and helps you when you ask for it. Its clear he wants you to be a success. Warning: he's unforgiving if you lie to him (as an unfortunate friend of mine discovered).
hIS LECTURES ARE QUITE INTENSIVE AND MOVES AT A FAST PACE, BUT HE SPEAKS CLERLY AND BE QUITE AMUSING. hIS TESTS ARE SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT, BUT AS LONG AS YOU DO THE READINGS AND PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
I would not recommend him. I took his class online and his exams while not difficult you do have to take the practice tests. He makes us do this ridiculous research report that is quite long and tedious with a bucketload of instructions. He is not helpful. He wants you to know the info like you are an anthropologist but treats you like a child.
Taking into account every professor I've ever had, I'd have to say Dr. V. was the most excited, enthusiastic, wonderful teacher I've ever had. He loves the subject that he teaches and it shines through every lecture. I took every class he taught (ANT2000, ANT2301, ANT2511) not because I needed it, but because he was such a fantastic teacher.
I highly recommend this! Amazing teacher! Hes fund and smart and knows what hes talking about. I have a cruddy memory but I was so proud of myself in this class. If you are an anthropology nmajor, make sure you take his class. I've considered changing my field to focus more on forensics after taking his class!
By far the most interesting teacher in the college. He is so excited about anthropology, and finds everything fascinating, that one can't help but be excited about it too. He is absolutely brilliant, and extremely helpful and funny. Taking his class will not be something you'll ever forget. SFC is lucky to have Dr. V.
I took this online where you get Dr. V. only via email and written instructions. He prepares you for exams with practice exams. You have to write a research paper that you submit in stages. Intermittent writing feedback help you to improve the final paper submission. Dr. V. is very helpful but I now wish I had taken this on campus.
Campus class appears different. You write short lab reports as homework assignments, and there are five exams with pre-tests. Dr. V. is a very friendly, laid-back guy, and enthusiastic about anthropology.
Tests are online! Bet you're happy now. They're timed, but plenty of time given. Do the online study guide. The book questions basically come from there so you might want to save it for later. There are extra credit exams! With good attendance you can take those- go to class because there are in class assignments that can't be made up easily.
Took the online class. Easy class. Just do the study guide and you should get an A. If not, he offers plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE. This teacher is so rude. I turned in my paper with errors and took a hit on my grade rather then ask his help because I knew he would make me feel stupid. This is one of the most demanding courses I have ever taken. This class may have been an awesome class with another teacher.
I took this class also online. Had problems with writing and Dr. V. was very helpful when I visited him in his office. Tests are not easy but you have the questions beforehand from his question bank. Study the book and ask for help if you need it. Although I struggled, I made an A. Its not easy clas but you learn a lot.
THIS CLASS WAS AMAZING! I learned so much about human eviolution and anthropology. Dr. V. is always kind and easy to get along with. He always answers questions, which can be annoying since some questions were really dumb. Tests were only difficlt when I forgot to study with the help of the question bank.
Dr. V. rocks! Awesome class.
Class was pretty easy, you just have to pay attention to his written instructions. You have to write a paper with intermittent submissions for which you receive lots of feedback. Exams are based on textbook question bank to which he gives you access. Professor is a nice guy and is always willing to help you if you ask for it.
Dr. V. is really nice and knows what he's talking about. The class is pretty easy; he takes attendance and grades participation. Class involves lots of hands-on exercises. He gives you lecture outlines and access to his exam questionbank. I definitely recommend him!
I really enjoy Dr. V's class. His labs and exercises are fun to do and I found his lectures very interesting. I highly recommend this class and the professor. I have a very high respect for him.
I was surprised by how much I actually learned in this sex class. Dr. V. also made it very easy to earn a good grade. There are five discussion forums (pay attention to his feedback during discussion 1) with extra credit. Also five exams with access to the exam question bank to prep for exams. There also is an extra credit exam.
I screwed this one up badly cause I didn't keep up with the the writing assignments. Stick to his writing schedule, read the instructions, and you will be doing fine. I will take this again next semester and plan for an A. Exams are easy, and professor is supportive.
Great professor, very helpful with writing assignments and exams, and lots of new stuff about human evolution.
Honestly, this is the most ridiculous professor I've ever had. The writing assignments were horrible because of CMS style. I took it online in summer so maybe that's why the class was so bad. I definitely would not recommend this class or teacher to anyone.
Interesting subject, but beware this is a communication course. You have to write a research paper in stages, using CMS, for which you get plenty feedback. Saw Dr. V. several times in his office and he was very helful and welcoming. Definately talk with him if you get stuck. Exams are easy if you study with exam question bank. Awesome prof.
You do five discussions and exams. Dr. V. gives lots of feedback and is very welcoming when you see him in his office. He makes his exam question bank available which I found extremely helpful prepping for exams. Pay attention to discussion requirements and check his feedback during the first discussion. Awesome topics and very crosscultural.
Great professor. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and presents material in an interesting way. He does fun lab sessions with homework assignments counting toward writing requirement. Class not hard, but study the book and attend lectures. I would definitely recommend this class for GE credit. Not hard to get an A. Do extra credits. Go to tutor review sessio
Interesting and fun class. Wonderful professor and tutors are awesome.
This is a fun class if you don't miss going to campus. Pay attention to Dr. V's discussion instructions and feedback or you will get bad grades. Discussion assignments are awesome. See Dr. V. in his office; he is really helpful if you have issues.
Love, love, love Dr. V! Fun class and learned amazing stuff.
I love Dr. V. and this class. Exams are easy if you study with the exam data bank questions. There are five exams, six discussions, and two extra credit exams. Watch for his feedback during the first discussion.
He is probably the worst in SF. I took two of his classes one was online and the other one wasn't. the online class was okay.but He is very mean in class. he will not answer questions and he does not use his office hours at all. do not like to answer E-mails ether. his classes are not hard but do not expect any help from him because we won't help.
DO NOT take this class with this professor, especially if you have any kind of life outside of school! This professor is so rude & unhelpful you will constantly be teaching your self & wondering why you got a 12/20 on participation when you've been to every class. His exam deadlines are 8 with no wiggle room at all regardless of the syllabus says
The overall rating of 4.2 by 295 students says it all. Dr. V. is an awesome professor and is very much concerned with the progress of his students. His class is an interesting mixture of classroom exercises, film studies, and lectures. Credits are earned with homework, participation, exams (highest of two attempts), and lots of extra credits.
Your grade is based on exams and discussions. You can take exams twice with highest attempt counting. There are also discussion extra credits (depending on sentences written). Don't ignore the instructions he posts for each discussion topic or you loose credits. Saw Dr. V. in his office twice. He was friendly and very helpful.
I took this bcause it seemed the most interesting of the required communication classes, and it turned out to be exactly that. I enjoyed the constant change of classroom activities. Dr. V. is a nice guy; but don't be a slacker cause he doesn't like that. Go to class and participate, and you be fine.
Vollweiler is a great professor who loves this subject. Going to class is a must because your are graded on participation and class is very interesting. Exams cover textbook, labs, films, and lectures. You have access to his exam question bank and he gives you lecture outlines. Loved the forensics lab and fossil skulls.
Dr. V. is enthusiastic about anthropology and concerned about the success of his students. Great professor but strict and demanding. Attend class and participate in class, read the book, do your homework, and you will do great! Very helpful during office hours too.
He made me switch my major. The lectures and labs are interesting and he tries to make it all exciting. If you go to class everyday and pay attention and read the textbook the tests aren't difficult. It's easy to pass exams but an A requires reading the textbook. Labs and homework really help you get a feel for anthropological research.
The class was very easy in the beginning and I found the lectures and labs very interesting. It got more difficult later and you MUST go to class and participate to get a good grade. Last two weeks of class are special, don't miss.
The only reason to take this class is to get english out of the way. Hes never clear and this site wont let me post other things he does. thanks and good luck!
I enjoyed his class. Just show up to class and stay on top of the work and you should do well!
This was by far the worse online professor I've ever had. His syllabus is very unclear, He takes days to respond back to your emails, and you have to email from your "personal account" He is never in his office during his office hours! He never gives full credit on discussions but doesn't explain why. Just very unprofessional! Don't take him!!
He is probably the most strict professor I have ever had. No matter how hard you try he doesn't care to help you in any way even if your 1 percent away. I had a funeral to attend to and he wouldn't even consider that a good reason to miss class. Do not take his class thinking it will be an easy A it's not and you probably only get a B or C.
Super Easy Class! I took it for Fall A. Just read his syllabus, and follow his instructions. Also, he gives a study guide before all the exams. Do it and memorize them or have them next to you when you are taking it, but make sure you know some of it because it is timed. Its an easy class!
I have no complaints about Dr. V. As a matter of fact, he seems to go out of his way to help students pass his class with study guides for the exams, multiple exam attempts with highest attempt counting, extra credit exams, and very detailed instructions for a term paper. If you take advantage of this, you cannot fail his course.
This is a very easy going course, with some online exams and a term research paper. I discovered an easy way around the required research paper. Take the two extra credit exams and you still will be able to pass the course if you flunk the paper. Visit him in his office if you have issues. He is better to deal with in person than with email.
This is my 2nd online class with Dr. V. (previous ANT2000). Different subjects, same structure (exams, extra credit exams, discussions). 2000 was interesting but 2301 is my favorite. Don't fake discussions as chats; you'll have to study for them and follow instructions and feedback. My husband studied with me and both of us loved this class.
Very straightforward course. You take several exams online for which you have study guides. In addition, there are six structured discussions based on short anthropological essays. His email replies are short, to the point, and usually within 24 hours but not on weekends. Visited his office, but he's only around during scheduled hours.
This prof is mad easy and mad chill. Exams online, can take twice. Used buddy system for exams. Lots extra credits. Warning: requires docs if you miss exams.
I very much enjoyed this course. Dr. V's obviously passionate about anthropology and it rubs off when you listen to him lecture. Class can be time consumig but it's not unreasonable. Homework projects are interesting and count toward participation credits. Participation (homework, attendance, showing interest, come prepared) is 40% of grade.
This class was interesting because traditional textbook readings were supplemented with short-stories about the anthropological experiences throughout the world. Altogether, a very eye opening course about how other cultures celebrate, mourn, birth, marry, war, love, govern, believe, and die. I highly recommend.
This was my favorite course at SFC. Dr. V's lectures were interesting and full of surprises. I also enjoyed the mix of lectures and classroom exercises. Dr. V. lets you have access to his exam question bank to study for exams and a good part of the grade is based on partcipation. My advice: Don't skip class and do all assignments when due.
Very interesting lecturer. I was not particularly interested in anthropology, class fit schedule, but I now appreciate the field much more. Classroom exercise sessions also are a plus and bring the topics to life. You definately need the book and study for this course, but if you put in the time its very rewarding and you're assured a good grade.
This is my 3rd class with Dr.V. He makes all his classes very interesting but this is my favorite. He makes this an interesting mix of lectures, films, and labs. He requires five short exams (30Q), has exam reviews, and gives lots of extra credit. Attending is a must to earn participation and extra credits. You definately need the required book.
This teacher was horrible. Apparently, if you have an Exam that is due by 8pm and you finish your first attempt at 4:35pm, but decide to take the second attempt anytime after 8pm, even just for fun, you receive NO CREDIT for your exam. This guy's very arbitrary and does not help you when you need it the most.
Professor Vollweiler is very strict about the format of the discussions and deadlines, but his class is very easy. My final grade is 119%. He provides plenty of opportunities to obtain extra credit. He also gives you the questions that are on the exams. The articles we had to read for discussions were truly fascinating. I would take him again.
I took two classes with Dr. V. Both are structured similarly. Five exams w/30 credits each. Two extra credit exams. Six discussions. All work is due 8 pm; later submissions require an excuse and documentation. He is fair, even-handed, and does exactly what he promises in his syllabus. Great teacher! I highly recommend.
Interesting class and the teacher is very mellow. Be prepared to do a lot of homework, but its not stuff that kills you. He gives you access to his exam question bank and reviews the questions with students before each exam. You will do a lot of hands-on work in class, and 50% is lecture.
I would strongly NOT! recommend Dr. V, he is horrible. If you enjoy being extremely confused by material that is never explained properly for an entire semester then this is the class for you. Understand this is a humanities credit, but should fall under the sciences, this class is very difficult considering there are nor prerequisite required.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. I don't know how he is in person but online he was one of the worst professors I have ever had. I met all the requirements for discussion posts but he kept trying to give me failing grades. He was also rude to me in message correspondence. He insisted you can ask him for help but if you do he is rude.
Nice guy. Easy, boring course. A quiz every week. Quizzes are based on lectures rather than textbook chapters. Textbook is not really necessary. Mandatory attendance. Missing one class can effect your grade tremendously when it comes to the quizzes. Online discussions weekly. One book report. Very strict on writing format.
not helpful at all emailing him and hes rude this class is super hard and hes always finding a way to fail you if he doesnt like the assignment you turned in for the paper automatic zero and you have to take the EC exams which puts you do to passing the class with a C. And if you dont pass a test with a 70 or higher then the extra credit is gone.
I really enjoyed the class and had fun with the online discussion topics. I do have to agree that correspondence via email with Dr V can be frustrating. I think he really is a nice guy but he can be short in emails. I don't know if I would take another class with him but I liked this one.
Dr. V. offers extra credit exams and extra credit homework. He also gives you access to his exam question bank for exam preps and has review sessions. The course is a lot of work (writing assignments; its a communication class), but also a lot of fun. I recommend. By the way, he always responds to email within 24 hours.
This is my third course with Dr. V. He is a very nice, easy going guy and cares about students (but he does not like slackers). His format is very similar for each of his classes. Online discussions, exams with thorough-going exam preps via his exam question bank, and extra credit exams. I had no email problems with Dr. V.-always prompt, polite.
Interesting course during which Dr. V. stays largely in the background. If you want to talk to him, do not use Canvas but email him from your email account; he answers within 24 hours. His answers are usually short but to the point, Love that he gives us access to his question bank for exams. I learned a lot and had fun with discussions.
This guy is past his prime and he commonly comments on himself being a "cranky old man". Refuses to give credit for incomplete or lab write ups that are not perfect to his unspecified standard. He will not look at written work because he claims he "cannot read anyone's hand writing" He instead wants you to rewrite everything onto an online version.
Very engaging mixture of lecture, film studies, and classroom exercises. Easygoing prof (I attended all sessions, never heard him call himself cranky old man), fair, and concerned about success of his students. I recommend this for an interesting required course.
I earned an A, attended all sessions, and learned tons of new stuff about evolution. Dr. V. is interesting, demanding, and rewards student accomplishments. Writing assignments consist of typing up classroom exercise observations (it's a communication class).
Took it online for communication credits. If you fail required writing assignments you can rescue your grade with extra credit exams. I recommend this course if you are uncertain about your writing abilities. One writing assignment is required, the rest are optional for those who want to learn CMS writing. Readings are very interesting.
A very fun course with a very mellow, kind and funny professor. Each class day started with a true/false quiz, and a book report was due toward the end of the semester. I enjoyed the class and recommend it.
Among the courses offered in this category, this course is as interesting as it sounds. But do not expect it to be a cakewalk. Professor is helpful and makes the class fun.
Flunked the campus version for private issues. The online version covers the same subjects (biological anthropology) but the writing assignments are different. Instead of classroom observation reports you have to do library research and write several papers. You have the option to ditch writing with extra credit exams. Rec:Take campus version
Awesome class and professor Vollweiller is a class act. It never gets boring here; I loved all those bones and fossils. Definitely no lollygagging in this class.
This is supposed to be a secret, but here is a hint: search for an extra credit clue in his syllabus. Georg V. rocks!
I enjoyed going to this class and I loved Dr. V. I recommend this.
An awesome mixture of lecture, labs, and movies. Awesome class and nice professor. Expect homework assignments like lab observations and do preps for review sessions to get ready for his exams. Has low tolerance for dipsticks.
He's a really great teacher. Hard on grading in that you have to be present on the day an assignment is assigned and the day it is due, even though all homework is submitted online. 5 exams are all online. Minimal writing. I would highly recommend him and take him again. Easy to talk to and funny.
He's funny and knows about Anthropology (he started the program) but he isnt too clear on conveying that information well. Assignments begin on the first day and do not end until the last day. Be wary of the positive reviews. Definitely not am easy course.
This is the hardest course. You basically are taking a course with a lab, minus credit for a lab. The professor is great and I have a lot of interest in Anthropology, which is what saved me (it's my major). This class is on a different level. You need to like group projects and you need to read everything, even if he doesn't talk about it.
Do not take this class. I read so many good reviews and this is my hardest class and it was supposed to be my easiest. He is a jerk and assigns way too much work.
This class was easy. You need to participate in class and show up for labs you never know what your're going to do, but you learn a ton. The textbook is super helpful too. You get test review which helps a lot too and a ton of extra credit opportunities. If you don't make at least a B you're not trying.
There is no final, the entire class is mainly just exams and discussions. You can't take extra credit exams if you miss one exam. Book is extremely boring and professor was very confusing in how he wanted things done. He gives you about 30 questions per chapter and 10 are on the exam, doesn't give you the answers though. He gives no feedback.
DO NOT TAKE. He grades very hard. He doesn't care about his students. I attended every class and he tried to fail me and I had to take my case to the dean of the school because "he didn't remember me being in class". Very unorganized and losses assignments. Tests are very hard are aren't even on material covered in class.
Stay away from this professor if you can. He is very unorganized, rude, and doesn't care about his students. Multiple times he tried to mark me absent because he "didn't remember me being there." He lost a bunch of peoples assignments (and one test!) and made them re-do them! Don't expect any clarity, I don't even think he knows what he wants.
Teaching at a graduate school level. Very rude in emails and discussion boards. I would not recommend taking this professor.
Prof uses mix of lectures, classroom activities, documentaries. It never gets boring. Large part of grade based participation (40%). You need the book to pass because exams are based on lectures and readings. Extra credit work can up your grade by 24%. Does group assignments but grades individual effort. Wants students to succeed.
Interesting content and fair exams. Also a good amount of extra credits. Dr. Vollweiler is available if you need his help, and gives plenty of feedback during discussions. He wants you to pass the course with a good grade. Would take class again, but next time on campus.
Lectures, activities, and films all are fascinating. Prof is very fair with students and gives extra credit assignments. You have to attend class, pay attention, and go to class prepared to do well. You have to be a looser to fail this class.
It's a writing intensive course, but writing is not your typical term paper. Writing assignments are based on observations during classroom exercises. Typed observations are submitted as homework for which you get a participation grade. Participation is about half of your grade. The rest is based on exams and extra credits. Fun class +recommend
Quite interesting for an online class. Grades based on exams and discussions. He gives you access to his exam question bank. Pay attention to discussion instructions. Took fhis professor for the second time and highly recommend.
Loved the subject and the professor. Highly recommend and would take it again.
This is my third class with Dr. V. and I would take another if he taught more courses. I highly recommend him as a prof from whom you can learn not only the subject matter but also how to succeed in college and how to prepare for university transfer and how to prosper there. If you are not serious about college don't take him.
I enjoyed this class and the professor. Good lectures, awesome flicks, fun classroom exercises. Exam reviews are extremely helpful, do not skip these. the professor is a nice guy who loves the subject and cares for his students.
Very easygoing class, with lots of new stuff I didn't know about sex. Because it's an online class you rarely are in contact with the professor, but he is supportive and easy to contact. He gives you access to to his exam question bank to study for the exams.
I enjoyed the topic and the professor. His expectations are clear from the start and he expects college-level behavior and performance. He gives tons of extra credit chances, but if you are lazy you probably should take another class.
Literally 25% of the grade can be earned in extra credits, which means you can still make an A in this course if you perform poorly on the required exams. I had a C average on the required work because of work commitments and ended up with an A because I attended class regularly and earned the extra credits. I highly recommend!
The profs explanations of evolution theory and excavation methods made it easier to understand the fossil record. We were able to handle the fossils in class and compare them to each other. That was an awesome experience. He even inspired me to read an updated version of Darwin's Origin.
I usually don't post here but wanted in particular for this professor. He was kind, interesting to listen to, and genuinely interested in his students. Lots of extra credits make it possible for almost any student to pass this course.
Hot subject, lots of student interactions, self-guided study with feedback from instructor. Tons of extra credits.
Dr. V. keeps you busy and interested and entertained. Loved the class and the professor.
Five exams (30 questions), extra credits galore, participation based on classroom activities and homework, all are ways he grades you. Dr. V. is an interesting and fair professor. I recommend and would take again.
This was a very easygoing but interesting anthropology class I took during the summer; basically a survey of all specialties within that field. Liked it so much I am taking Dr. V. again this semester in Human Origins.
This sex course was an eye-opener, and Dr. V. was a doll. Its a shame you see little of him online. Exams are fair because the question bank is available to all. Hint: Before you post in the discussion forums KNOW his instructions; also SEARCH the syllabus for a secret extra credit clue you must find by the "study syllabus" deadline. I recommendye
Takes days to respond to emails, is completely disorganized and unreasonable. The rudest professor Ive ever had. I will never take a course with him again.
Awesome course if you are into fossils and want to know more about human evolution. Presents the facts and theories and leaves it up to you to make up your mind. Does interesting mix of lectures, labs, and movies. Do not expect an easy A; but if you study, don't skip class, do the exam reviews, and take notes, a high grade is in reach. V. rocks!
This was the most useful course I took in college. The content was eye opening, the discussions were exciting, and Dr. V. made the material accessible. He gives several short exams for which he preps you with access to his question bank. He's responding to email within 24 hours. If you're curious and motivated, I recommend this course and teacher.
The course is well organized and falls roughly into three topical themes: theories, methods, and evidence of human evolution. Conduct in class and homework assignments earn participation credits (roughly 45% of grade) and rest is earned via exams. There's lots of extra credit. If you want an A, don't skip class, do homework, attend exam reviews.
Do the readings, rely on his exam question bank to prep for exams, and don't skip discussions. If you have a minimum discussion grade of 70% you can take an extra credit exam that make a huge difference in your grade. Focus on the discussion instructions to maximize your credit earnings. Prof responds to emails within 24 hrs.
Probably the best college course ever. I learned lots of new stuff, and found new respect for women. I had no idea what they have to go through with their monthly cycles. Discussions are awesome, but don't lose track of Dr. Vs discussion requirements (it will cost you) and pay attention to his feedback. Recommend!
If you don't follow his unclear HW instructions EXACTLY, you will receive no credit. If you are absent the day an assignment is assigned or the day it is due even ONLINE, you will receive no credit (which is basically every class.) He is unclear about instructions and turns HW grades into participation points so you never know what you received.
Teaches at grad level. Only way to get a good grade is via exams. No discussion posts to boost credit, nor weekly quizzes. Exams are hard, barely any time to complete them before your time runs out. There's extra credit, but good luck getting it. There's a research paper for extra cred, but he's so anal about how it's written..."W" imminent.
First of all, you have to show up to class. He take attendance every day and if you miss what you're doing that day, he won't let you make it up. The assignments later in the semester aren't very clear but as long as you're detailed in your work, you will pass. The exams are all online and he provides a study guide for them, exams are TIMED though.
I had no problem with this professor and the grading criteria are clearly explained in the syllabus. Lots of extra credit - but you have to study for it. Prof. V. treats students fairly and wants you to be prepared for transfer to UF.
Probably the best online class I had at SFC. Dr. V. is there for you on weekdays (does not respond on weekends). Do extra credit exams; they made a big difference in my grade.
Unless you are an anthropology major, I highly recommend staying far away from this professor. The class was ok, but I am a psychology major and did not appreciate spending hours on lab preps for this class. Out of all my classes, this is one of the most labor intensive. Also, the entire semester I was confused about due dates. DONT DO IT
Its clear what he expects from you. Fun discussions. Take advantage of exam question bank to prep for exams. Prof is very nice but older. Don't expect lollygagging will make you his friend. Visit his office or call his voicemail; his voice is sexy!
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. His instructions are completely unclear and if you don't understand he will treat you like you're dumb. You will spend HOURS on his labs and still make horrible grades. I have 12 A's in my college career and I'm looking at a D in his class. He is no help at all with his extremely difficult assignments. DO NOT TAKE
I never write reviews but for Dr. V, I had to. This is supposed to be a beginner course. I took it for writing intensive credit thinking it would be relatively easy after reading his reviews. Wrong. He is very unclear about what he expects yet he is the most difficult grader I have dealt with. Expect to spend about 16 hours of time on lab reports.
I loved his course! I learned so much and still retain it even now a year later. His accent is so fun to listen to and I love his sense of humor. He's an older gentlemen but he's still really easy to get along with! I would definitely recommend his course if you have even a little interest in human origins.
Dr. V is a good prof., but can be confusing at times. What he wexpects isn't always clear and the assignment deadlines are wonky so BEWARE. There are tests that feature both review questions and questions from films watched in class. Tests are somewhat hard. There are several time-consuming early-human comparison labs you must complete to pass.
Worst, rudest, least helpful, and unclear professor I've ever hAd. Never have I felt this badly about any professor.
I love anthropologyarchaeology but HATED this class. He is EXTREMELY unclear about his instructions and ridiculously confusing. He takes days to respond to emails and is not very helpful what so ever. When you ask for help he is very brief and makes you feel dumb for asking. I do NOT recommend this class to anyone, especially online, I took both.
Took this class Summer A online. Very easy to pass. Provides study guide for exams. Book is a must have. Lots of reading. Discussions every week. Extra credit opportunities. NO final exam. Would surely take this class again. Got an A. Take his class.
Just a generally unpleasant guy.
I found his teaching style to be lacking in numerous areas.
I got great feedback from Dr. V. and the course content was awesome.
This is the most clearly organized online course I have taken. You know exactly what, when, how, and where Dr. V. wants assignments from you. I wish all online courses are organized like this. Dr. V. is very helpful with feedback when things are wrong and he appears genuine in his efforts to make you pass this course. I highly recommend.
Lots of different formats; lecture, movies, labs, exam reviews, and extra credits. Every day is different and interesting. One of my favorite courses and profs at SFC.
He doesn't do a good job with communication.
If you love mixing things up in class this is it. No day in class is the same. Loved the course and Dr. V.
I had no problems with Dr. V., and the course was amazing. He's there for you if you need him. I recommend this course and prof. The overall ratings say it all.
Took this Spring 15. Lots of fun labs, amazing lectures, awesome movies. Not the easiest course to get an A but it's worth it. Loligaggers
Had a great time taking this course (I've done three with Dr. V.; I'm not a major). I learned a lot about how humans evolved and how anthropologists look at the evidence. He doesn't try to convert you and lets you make up your own mind. If you don't skip class and do the readings you will love this.
You know exactly what the professor wants the moment you enter his course. Weekly modules tell you what to do and when to do it. He also lets you prepare for exams with access to his exam question bank. He's always available to students five days a week within 24 hours via email replies.
I recommend highly. Best class ever! As Dr. V. says: sex rocks!
Earned an A with average required exam grade of 70% for five exams (126 credits). Here is how: wrote maximum sentences for each of the six discussions (48 credits, of which 18 are extra credits), received extra credits for finding secret embedded message in syllabus (5 extra credits), and earned 21 extra credits with extra credit exam. 99.5%
What makes this interesting is the mix of things in the classroom. You get lectures, labs, discussions, movies. Exams are prepped with reviews and practice exams. Fossils are there to touch and compare. Awesome course but you have to be willing to write (it's writing intensive) to get an A. I recommend.
Did this spring 2015. Five exams with 25 questions each, about 56% of grade. Participation consist of homework and participation in class, about 44% of grade. Homework mostly lab observations & analysis that must be typed; counts for intensive writing credit. Exam reviews for each exam. Extra credit 13%. Lots of lifesavers but no cakewalk.
Dr. Vollweiler was easy to get along with and exams were easy to do because he gives you practice exams. He also has discussions with interesting topics. You can earn extra credits with discussions and if you participate in all of them with an average grade of 70% you can earn extra credits with an extra credit exam.
This was supposed to be my fun class and it was! The readings and discussions were rich in information and sometimes hilariously funny. Recommends: For exams study the book with his practice questions and you will get high grades. Do all discussions for easy credits, but make sure you do them the way he wants them & the check grading scale.
I find this class more challenging academically than the ANT2301 class I did simultaneously. Although I did not expect this, this class was actually quite a lot of fun to do, in part because Dr. Vollweiler has it so well organized for online students. He also responds well to emails, almost always within 24 hours.
This class you need to attend and participate and take good notes. Study from your notes and his exam question bank to prepare for exams. Professor Vollweiler is very interesting and answers questions without making you feel stupid.
Easy going class, well organized, interesting.
Great teacher. Can go on tangents occasionally but he knows what he's talking about. He's also great with answering questions, he never makes anyone feel stupid.
The most useful college class ever!
Read the syllabus and book, go to class, and do the homework. He is a great guy who gets so exited about human origins that everyone else gets excited too. The class exercises are fun and lectures surprising; and you get to play with awesome human fossils including Neanderthals and a complete Turkana Boy skeleton!
Vollweiler, he's a fantastic guy with a good sense of humor. He gets excited about bones and fossils and genes. The exams come from lecture and the book (he gives practice exams and reviews). Attending all classes is the easiest way to assure an A. This is a must take class that requires some work.
Fun class with clearly organized structure (no guessing what to do next). Exams are easy if you prepare with practice exams.
It's a required communication class, so expect writing assignments. In this class they are typed up versions of your lab observations. Dr. Vollweiler is very intelligent and well versed in anthropology and an interesting lectu. If you don't want homework writing assignments do not take this, otherwise I think it's an easy A if you don't skip class.
Study the text with the aid of his practice exams, do all discussions, and you sail home with an A.
Very fun and interesting course. tests are not that easy but if you study the material you'll do fine. Prof is always there to help (except holidays and weekends). I highly recommend this course.
Professor Vollweiler's okay. Personable and knows his stuff and exhibits enthusiasm for human evolution, forensics, bones and anthropology. Tests can be a challenge if you don't prepare and do not participate in his thorough prep reviews, but they are fair. Work hard, study, and an A is not that difficult. Labs were great.
Just come and listen to lectures and do the labs then hit the reviews and youll get a good grade. You need the book, it is really necessary. He's helpful, knows his stuff and is willing to entertain new or different perspectives. #awesome
AWESOME class and he is the best professor I ever had. there is alot of work but it all very interesting
By far the most interesting class I have ever taken. This is the first required book I had a difficult time to put down. Dr. V. also seems eager for you to get a good grade. Take the practice exams and an A is certain.
Wow the human origins class is so easy! We watched movies, had lectures about the bones and fossils, did some awesome labs for which you type your observations as homework), he's really nice, and the tests are super easy if you do the practice tests and go to review. Got an A and having fun!
Did not have a heavy work load for this class, mostly you just need to read the chapters that are assigned but make sure you know the material. His test are timed and you wont have time to look up the answers. Usually they would be like 60 questions with only 40 minutes to complete. His disscussion boards were super lame.
Loved this class and learned a lot. The book was awesome and the professor very helpful. Discussions on different topics were interesting. Would take this again and recommend.
I liked him in Human Origins. Interesting lectures and labs and films that correlate. def. take him again
Wonderful prof who knows A LOT about forensic anthro and fossils and is VERY interested in the subject. Helps students as much as needed and wants us to do well. Very respectful and very fair.
I took him for another class and I loved him. He is so entertaining and helpful. He has a lot of first hand experience as a researcher and is a member of several professional societies. He knows everything in regards to current research and methods. You definitely have to work n the class and attend though. If you o you make an A.
Easy going class but you have to read and participate in discussions. Practice exams help to get a good grade. Dr. V. always responds to email within 24 hours. If you don't understand something just ask.
Great teacher. He really knows the material, being a biological anthropologist himself and is obviously excited about the field. He goes in depth with the important material and will otherwise tell you what is important and practice exams nail it. I wouldn't miss a class. If you are interested and competent you'll do fine.
hE IS A GREAT TEACHER. Don't miss a class and take good notes. Study for his tests and you will do fine. The lectures are interesting and surprising (I didn't know that lice, DNA, and fossilized crap can tell us anything about our past ). If you skip classes you probably will not pass.
Best class ever! Dr. V. is a nice guy and clearly wants you to enjoy the class and pass.
Great professor, very knowledgeable. Lectures help you to pull it all together and he's very clear on getting the point across. Gave 5 short exams (25 Q) and credits participation. There is a lot of reading but for the exams he gives you practice exams to prepare. He really wants his students to do well.
The exams are long and tough if you literally never do any of the work he assigns. He provides thorough study guides that, if you complete, have fully prepared you. He expects you to put in the work, but gives you all of the tools necessary.
Worse class I ever had. Went out of his way to give me a hard time no matter what I did to get a good grade. Very anal about his assignments. Wouldn't recommend.
Dr. V. is very clear and makes his classes interesting. He also gives a lot of extra credit so there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A. Its a really great class and I think its b/c he enjoys his work so much.
Best organized online course ever! The homepage leads you directly to weekly assignment modules; you never get lost and always know what to do next. Modules contain reading assignments, discussions forums, practice exams, and occasionally the required exams. He also gives extra credit exams. Do the practice exams as he recommends!
Dr. V. is a kind but demanding guy. His class is challenging but without being overly difficult. His materials online are well organized and the labs and documentaries he intermingles with lectures make thus class a treat.
Love love love this class and Dr. V. Probably learned more here than in any other college class. You don't see much of Dr. V. unless you visit him in his office (hours listed in Canvas calendar) but he structured the course such that you won't get lost. He also gives good learning tools like practice exams. Recommended!
Dr. Vollweiler is a great teacher. He offers extra credit exams the same value as other exams. Nice guy really knows his material and enjoys teaching and his students.
I enjoyed the videos, labs, and extra credit assignments. He's a nice guy and knows what he is talking about
Dr. Vollweiler offers lots of opportunities for extra, so there is no excuses for not getting an A. If you need him he's there for you. If you need help see him in his office.
Dr. Vollweiler offers lots of opportunities for extra, so there is no excuses for not getting an A. If you need him he's there for you. If you need help see him in his office.
Dr. Vollweiler offers lots of extra credit, so there are no excuses for getting an A. Its a fun class.
Dr. Vollweiler offers lots of extra credit, so there are no excuses for getting an A. Its a fun class.
Dr Vollweiler offers lots of opportunities for extra credit, so there is excuses for not getting an A. He's there for you in his office if you need help. Class is a lot of fun.
Most frustrating class I've taken. He is NOT clear whatsoever about what you need for the next class or where to find it online. Might as well teach yourself or just take the online version.
pay attention in class, read the book and you are good
You do five 30 question exams for which you prepare with practice exams and you do six discussions. Nothing to it and fun to do. Class is probably best online class in terms of organization. Everything's easy to find. Dr. V. gives good feedback.
I loved the variety of class activities and labs, lectures, and movies. Dr. V. seems genuinely interested in helping you pass the course.
Professor V. is very nice and helpful and the class is interesting. He made class much easier than I expected. Pay attention to his discussion feedback.
I love Dr. V. You couldn't ask for a more engaging, knowledgeable, and concerned professor. It was a pleasure to be a student in his class.
Very nice and wants to help students. His tests are straight from practice exams and lectures. Anthropometry, anthroposcopy, forensics, human-chimp skeletal comparisons, and fossil comparisons during class coupled with lectures make this class enjoyable.
Gives good exam reviews for each exam. Attending those will pay off. Also alternates class content with lectures, videos, classroom activities like forensic identification and fossil comparisons. The writing intensive part involves submission of observations during those activities.
Dr. Vollweiler gives you access to his exam question bank to prepare for five short exams (30 questions). The bulk of your grade comes from exams. There are also five required discussion forums. Do yourself a favor and read the instructions in the forums before you post. Extra credits turned my C into a B+. The book is essential to pass.
Professor Vollweiler is very kind and helpful but he expects you to stick to his requirements. Participation (not attendance) is graded. If you miss a test he accommodates if you have a good reason. This is not an easy course but he helps you with extras credits.. You will have to study and own the textbook to pass this course
It has been a pleasure to be a student in this class.
I took this class as a filler and was expecting it be an easy A, I was wrong. He gives tedious amounts of work and his instructions are very unclear. The class is harder than it should be due to his poor instructions. He is nice and wants to make the class interesting, but if you are just taking it as a filler I would not recommend this class.
This is a fun class. I enjoyed all the lectures, videos, and labs. He does reviews for exams, don't skip them.
I took him online for Fall B. There were five 30 question exams and 6 discussion posts. For each exam he gives you a question bank. All 30 questions comes from that question bank. Only problem is there are 150 to 200 questions per a question bank for each exam. Extra credit is offered but I did not need it because I aced all my exams.
Fair but will make you work. This is not an easy A. You will get the grade you have earned. Dr. V knows his subject well and he can be confusing if you aren't paying attention - the key is to pay attention. Attend class, ask questions if you're confused. Hands-on labs are interesting. I enjoyed playing with skulls.
I really liked the subject and all the projects that we do. But Mr.V participation points are crazy. Make sure you come to class everyday. Lectures are long and boring. On a good note, for every exam he gives you the answers to the test.
I found the lectures very interesting and the class was easy at first but gets more intense toward the end. Don't miss class if you want a good grade.
Very nice guy. Talk to him after class or during office hours.
Wish could give more detail. Class: bio anthropology (human origins, very reading intensive). Syllabus was 11 pgs long, meandering narrative format, no schedule in it, no assignment list. Waste most class time measuring bones, with 100s of pgs of reading left. 3 pg HW assgnmts counted only as part of attendance grade. Very very disorganized teacher.
Very interesting course, nice professor, and an A is possible if you don't skip class.
Absolutely did not enjoy his class. He was very disorganized. He did not help out at all. I had to explain to him several times that he emailed me confirming that I would be able to take an exam after the due date due to a personal conflict. I sent him screenshots of our conversation and sent him several emails. Points were taken off.
I loved the mix of content such as lectures, labs, movies, discussions. I also liked it that let us look at and compare the human fossils. One of the most interesting courses I took at SFC.
amazing teacher very humorous
Gives quizzes that do not relate to lecture topic. Does not go by book. Critizies oral presentations.
Great professor and great class! Fairly easy as long as you show up and aren't a jerk.
fantastic teacher, funny. He cares about the material, and approaches it from all angles to make sure you get it. He gives plenty of opportunities to excel in the class. he does have heavy grading scales, a single paper/presentation on it being 1/3, quizzes and tests 1/3, and participation 1/3. He pretty much gives you the questions beforehand too
Solid professor. He's pretty hilarious, and an A is very achievable if not super easy. Seriously though, don't take him if you are going to skip class, at all. Attendance is literally 1/3 of your grade.
The class is amazing, but the teacher is a very tough grader, and arrogant. Out of class he literally ignored me when I asked him something and kept walking. I submitted my first hw on time, but not typed. He told me to bring it typed next class, I did. He gave it a grade of 0. The grades really bring you down and the professor is frustrating.
He is a very hard grader. He drops lots of assignments in at the last minute so you have to check on-line to see if he's added any requirements. The worst part is he is very picky about how you hand in your paper, must be to his assistant and stapled, just silly little things to make life harder when it could be so easy. Avoid him if you can.
Prof. V was a hilarious teacher who really loved what he was lecturing about. In his class, it is very important to be present because his participation grades carry a heavy weight. Quizzes are heavily weighted as well so it's important to make sure that readings and lectures are committed to memory. Overall, it was a semi hard class but enjoyable.
He made the lectures fun and hilarious. But your note taking skills will make or break your grade
Has a professor type attitude. Gives off the feeling that she better than everyone else. My whole class is doing bad and he just keeps blaming us. Tries really hard to be funny but it ends up being cringy. In one class period has managed to denounced three major religions by calling all of them mythical and fictitious. I'm not religious but stil.
I would not take this professor ever again. He is rude, interrupts you when you are speaking, and makes you feel stupid in front of your peers. He does not help you when you have questions. He is inappropriate. Just an all around bad teacher in my opinion.
I was originally very excited to take this class because I'm interested in anthropology. But upon interacting more with Dr. V, my opinion quickly changed. When asking a question in class, he rolls his eyes at you and makes you feel incompetent. I would have enjoyed the class very much but unfortunately Dr. V is just not a nice person and it shows.
Homework assignments are extremely unclear and overly difficult. Took this class as my last class for my AA. Don't. Any interest you may have in Anthropology will go out the window. Spent half of the class talking about himself. Ended up with a good grade but again it wasn't easy.
Everything was fine until we started doing labs. He expects us to know everything and does not give us any examples or clear instructions. The last month he wasnt even there! he literally made us take an online quiz based on our labs which he does not go over and then it takes him until the very last day to submit grades so you dont even know it!
You must go to class for Labs, skip them and you will not pass. He expects you to know the labs and if you have questions he mocks you on them. He is not very helpful and i would 100% never take him as a teacher again.
He is disorganized and makes up due dates as the course goes on. Does not accept any handwritten work, everything MUST be typed. Be prepared to feel stupid if you have a question or say the wrong answer. Dropped this course out of frustration of his personality and disorganization. YOU WILL FAIL if you don't come to class(he will make sure of it.)
Dr. Vollweiler gemuinely likes his students, wants his students to pass his class, and expects you to work for it. If you fail once you still have a chance to improve your grade. Much of your grade is based on classroom exercises, associated homework and participation. You will need the required text to pass. You definitely will not be bored here.
This was the most interesting course I took at SFC and I loved the professor.
Dr. Vollweiler is one of the best. His exams won't kill you because you'll be prepared for those with his teaching. You'll need the book.
I enjoyed this class and this professor
Dr. V. is an exceptional teacher. That is why I'm surprised by some of the negative comments by someone who made like 7 or 8 posts below. I just had to put that out there because he deserves the credit. I can tell how passionate he is about anthropology and teaching. So thanks Dr.V. for always putting your students first..
Professor Vollweiler has a genuine care for his students. He is always willing to provide feedback, is passionate about anthropology, loves his field, but is firm with his expectations... all of which makes him a respected teacher.
He is clear about his expectations from the students. The content taught by him is interesting and useful for science majors. He instills disciplined observation and measurement skills. Has a good sense of humor, and keeps the class fun and interesting throughout.
He does lectures, helps you with science research,, lets you compare human fossils, lets you make up your own mind about human origins. We did quizzes, some of them take-home, homework based on classroom exercises, library resaearch, and film studies. My favorite class so far.
Expect a few tough questions on quizzes. Overall he puts a lot of effort to make sure that everyone understands what he is talking about. He is very friendly unless you try to scam him. He took his time to learn the names of students in the class ..
Dr. V. is an awesome teacher! Responds quickly and truly cares about the class and its students. Grades were 25% participation, 25% research project, 25% quizzes, and 25% homework. You'll need the book as a reference guide.
If you look at this, thank you for being the professor you are.

Dr. V. exceeded my expectations as professor. He is helpful, understanding and makes this class very interesting. He does his job well. One of the best professors I had at SFC!
Dr. Vollweiler is the best instructor I had in college. Definitely take him. His quizzes (thats what he calls his exams) won't kill you, you'll definitely be prepared for them with his teachings and reviews.
Hes a funny older guy. When we told him he got a hot chili pepper rating on ratemyprofessor he claimed it was posted during the Neolithic. He also joked that he personally prefers pickles to chili peppers. He has a lot of biology content but not too hard. You will have to go to class because each class prepares you for the next. Take him and go!
Vollweiler is an awesome ANT2511 instructor. He keeps office hours in the early morning before class and seems to enjoy office visits from students. I cannot speak high enough about him. He genuinely cares. If you have the option of taikng a class with Vollweiler, go for it!
Great professor. I would, highly recommend taking him, can't imagine a better anthropology teacher out there. Take a walk to his office and get to know him, really nice human being. He does care about his students.
Quizzes in this class are easy if you go to class and not difficult at all. Make sure not to skip class. We used the book a lot during exercises. If you do all the work, easy A.
great class, great professor, and will take again
seems like every class was different , interesting, and fun. Dr. V. rocks
Dr. V. is cool, class is awesome, and anyway I loved anthropology
He is never complete in telling you all of what he expects for the class. As a result, the majority of the class is left to fill in the blanks for ourselves. If you dont provide what he wants, he picks it apart and tries to belittle you. Misinterpret him and he'll attack you for it Other negative reviews will concur. very vague expectations AVIS
HMMM! You come to see this professor I see, wellllllllllll good luck! For only those chosen with the might of a extreme warrior shall pass. Are you ready?? You must ask do you have the guts? Oh yes I have the guts. I can pass this class or I can die trying. You are warriors! Bread from the Seed we call HUMANITY! Just know you'll never be the same.
