Be on time to class, practice and read the book, and you'll get an A.
Fantastic performer and teacher. You can learn a lot from him. Just don't feed him with excuses. He deserves better than that from his students.
although i never studied with him, but i've spoken with him many times and he seems to be VERY nice guy. maybe it's because i was nice with him too. but whenever i asked him for help, it was no problem
Professor Weremchuk is really great. If you take his Enjoyment of Music classbe sure that you're interested, b/c he deserves students that really appreciate his teachings.
Challenging class if you aren't really into classical music. He is very passionate about music.
Don't expect to ever get out early, he really keeps to the syllabus and he frowns upon leaving without being dismissed because it distracts others. I barely studied and still managed to get an A in the course. Just make sure you buy the text and cd's!
Prof W..in the beggining he seemed cool. Point system is fair, no %'s. Sometimes unclear, fumbles on words, yet passionate about music. Struggles to make connection btwn material and student's understanding...still got a B, music bkgrd. really helps.
Look out for minor details, he likes to stick those in the test. Always remember compositions from repeated sections. Look out for the Baroque and classical test:)usually it's the best one to drop. I got an A and I just studied and listen to the comps.
Great teacher, great performer. Expects you to be prepared, but can reschedule if nec. Expects performance. Learned a lot and has improved my performance a great deal...Highly recommend!! Makes good suggestions and is interested in making you a great performer.
this class is great. his notes help for the test. he's nice.
Lots of information.Don't take as a summer class!Isn't clear on what will be on the tests, so there is a lot of work on your part reading the lengthy chapters. If you have a lot of interest in rock music and know a lot about the subject, take it. If you are looking for an easy A, don't.Nice, but sometimes strict. Attendance not mandatory but needed
Do not take as a summer class! too much information to take in for the summer. Information can be interesting, but its to much to take in. Hes not clear on whats going to be on the tests and its impossible to get A's on his exams.
ignore what the people under me said. I took as a summer class and got an A
This was the easiest class of my life. If you are past your first semester in college you will understand. Took it as a senior needed the credits and only worked on the quizzes once every two weeks for 1 hours. Got an A. IF you say this class is hard I really don't know what you will major in.
I took this class online. It consists of 7 quizzes and your grade is comprised of your top 6 quiz grades. Quizzes are SOLEY based on online modules. I read the first reading before the first quiz and soon realized it was a complete waste of time. If you're interested in Rock music I would definitely take this course. :)
Lots of material, don't expect to focus on anything for a long period of time. Grading isn't consistent; same answers will get different scores on a regular basis. Not clear on what will be on the test. Interesting class, but not particularly easy
Great class to take if you love learning about music! You will be just fine if you go to the majority of classes and listen. :)
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Prof. Weremchuk was very clear, and he made the lectures interesting. He's a really cool and approachable guy. As long as you attend class and pay attention you should do fine. Definitely take this class if you like classic rock.
I took this class online so I never met the professor. there were 7 quizzes. I never opened the book. 50 questions in 30 minutes. not that hard. I would take it due to the amount of work and time being so small. It was interesting to read all the history in the modules. I printed them out for the quizzes and that helped a lot.
7 Quiz grades, dropped the lowest. 2-3 "Modules" per test. Book unnecessary for class unless you would like to read deeper. Quick repsonse from the professor every time.
Online Class. I always read the book, and I'm happy I did, just because I learned from it. The class is extremely simple: 7 quizzes, usually covering 2 chapters, every other week. He drops the lowest quiz grade. He posts notes for each chapter, which you can easily find probably 80% or more of the quiz answers from, and Google the rest. That's it.
Dr.weremchuk does basically nothing at all to teach. if you are new to an online class, do not take this class. tests are on a time limit of 30 minutes for 50 questions and he expects you to know things that arent even posted in the moduels. if you are looking for an easy A like i was then dont take this ego maniac. take cinema survey instead.
I had such a great interest in playing saxophone before i studied with Dr. Weremchuk. All you do is play classical etudes and classical solos if you are a music ed or BA Music Major. I feel like i learned very little. Masterclass is just a rehearsal that you are made to sit through. I do not recommend him for sax study.
Really enjoyed taking this class! I took it online. DO NOT forget the deadlines!! Gives a total of 7 quizzes during the semester, and drops one of them at the end. I only recieved a poor grade for missing a quiz deadline. Other than that, he answers all questions pretty fast and it is an easy class as long as you read the modules.
This class is hard. Unless you religiously read the modules and know them the quizzes are impossible. He gives only 30 minutes for 50 questions! Take this if you realllly like to be stressed out by quizzes.
Awesome class. Very easy. Didn't buy the book. The book has a website where it gives the chapter outlines which contains all the info you need plus what he gives in the modules since its similar. I waited til the day of the quiz and read the 2 chapters and the modules and I never scored below a 46/50 and I got 98 for the class.
The class is really easy as long as you read the chapters in the book before the test. Tests are straightforward and some questions have a music clip with which you are to identify the artist or song name. I definitely recommend Mr. Weremchuk and would take the class again if I could!
You need to read the textbook chapters to do well. Drops one of the quizzes.
HONORS: NOT EASY A like online. 4 essays exams (60% of grade), 3000 word final paper (30% of grade), participation (10% of grade)- YOU WILL WORK. Picky on details on exams. Class time was laid back. He's a nice enough person, but HAD to read + KNOW the listening guide to get a good grade on exams. He doesn't have office hours, but good about email.
This class was much harder than expected. The tests can be difficult and require a lot of memorization. The notes given in class are not posted online so it is important to pay attention. Expect to work hard if you want an A.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Just read the modules and take the quizzes. The material is actually interesting too.
I took this class because I thought the course would be interesting. The content is very interesting and enjoyable. However, I think the professor is rather skeptical of people because he has 7 quizzes (though he drops the lowest one) which have 50 questions each yet have to be done in 30mins. That made me focus on my grade vs. content. Saddening.
Not a good teacher...
Took this class online. Weremchuk is fine, but tests are really difficult. If you're not truly interested in rock history (I wrongly thought I was), don't take it. Most quiz questions are very specific, and I averaged low Bs and high Cs on quizzes after hours of studying. Course material is interesting, but tests make you think you know nothing
As someone who loves music and is always willing to learn more about it, I really enjoyed this class. Each module is clearly outlined and corresponds to chapters in the textbook. There were 7 quizzes and the lowest gets dropped. Additionally, each quiz only tests you on two modules each time. Very easy to understand & also a very interesting course
There's only 7 quizzes and no midterm or final. He outlines enough info in the modules to get a low A. In the book you can answer the other very few questions he'll ask that he won't cover. 50 questions in 30 mins on each quiz so have the modules ready! I'd take this again, it had cool little facts about all of the bands I've heard everywhere.
horrible! Do not expect an easy A. I spent hours and hours, and days and days studying these modules, but the problem is that you only get 30 minutes to answer 50 questions! That is beyond ridiculous! I think that a minute per question is more appropriate. How does the school allow this to continue? Do yourself a favor and take something else!
The only grades in this class come from the quizzes. The quizzes are based on the modules. I read the modules and study them for hours. The quizzes are specific and almost impossible to complete in 30 minutes. Even after trying hard and studying I am struggling. Do not take.
This class is actually really interesting if you're a fan of good music. There are only 7 quizzes, and the lowest quiz gets dropped. The only problem is that you are given 30 minutes to complete 50 questions, which doesn't seem logical. Just study! Overall, very cool online course that I highly recommend taking if you need a humanities credit.
Awful Class. Tries to make an elective impossible. Who the hell gives 30 minutes for 50 questions. Do NOT take this class!
This course could be interesting, but the quizzes are not. They are your only grades, and you get 30 minutes to do 50 questions. If you don't read, you will not do good at all. Honestly, wouldn't take this class again. Wouldn't recommend
The class really isn't as bad as everyone says. It's 7 quizzes and the lowest gets dropped. Treat the class as a normal in-class one and you'll do fine. Just keep rereading his modules since about 45/50 questions on each test come straight from it. 50 questions in 30 minutes for the tests. STUDY BEFORE and google the rest and you'll have time.
It's Survey of Rock, pretty straight forward. 7 quizzes and he drops the lowest one. The only hard part is you have 30 minutes to answer 50 questions. Pretty ridiculous, but between his modules and Google it isn't bad. Definitely an easy B, but need to make sure you're ready for every quiz if you want an A.
Okay so 7 quizzes, one dropped and 50 questions each and 30 mins. NO FINALS but if you don't like music like me DON'T TAKE IT, even though you are smart (i am a straight A student) this is hard because its bunch of music stuff , 5 questions are from the listening part you have a 25 sec audio clip . Made a B :(
Ok, here's the thing, if you GENUINELY don't like or care for rock music, don't take this class. If you have a good amount of background knowledge on bands or the evolution of rock, you will pass with flying colors. All you really have to do is print out and thoroughly read his modules (the book is NOT NECESSARY). I've only gotten A's on his exams.
I took online which is really easy. All you need to do is read the module and take notes. If you take good notes the time limit isn't hard at all to finish in.
not a difficult class once you recognize the pattern of questions asked. Only issue is 30min isn't enough for 60q and he says it's to prevent cheating but I think that inspires it more. Use the app shazam for audio questions and ctrl+f on the modules, read the chapters and you should end up with at least a high B low A. Better if you like music.
The class basically consists of reading the modules and taking a quiz. The tough thing is that the quiz is 50 questions and you only get 30 minutes to answer all of the questions. If you want an A, you have to seriously study the material and know it all. You can get a B using shazam and ctrl + f on the modules to find the answers, but not an A
The entire class is just reading the modules and taking the quizzes. He makes it tougher with 50 questions in 30 minutes, but I've never run out of time and I got an A or B on every single quiz. Read the modules right before the quiz and keep it open for ctrl +F and you'll be fine.
This class is easy as long as you read the modules before taking the quiz. He gives you 30 minutes to complete 50 questions because he DOESNT want you looking up the answers. Its easy to get an A on each quiz. You will NOT find quizlets which is annoying but just letting you know now. Also if you're into rock you get to learn about some cool ppl.
Prof Weremchuk proved to be one of the toughest profs ever taken. Didn't expect such a topic as rock music to be so complex. Must be able to follow the chain of music influence from the 40s to modern day. Tests tough - graded on silly little things. Listening guides are the only things in the textbook you need to read.
Easy enough class, light workload but graded off very little things. Took online and the textbook wasn't necessary at all. Gives short time limits for tests though.
The only assignments are 7 module quizzes based off of the textbook reading and an attendance quiz. Module quizzes are 50 questions in 30 minutes, all multiple choice. Easy to do if you know the material.
Read the textbook/material on webcourses, listen to the music samples that are needed for the quizzes. Easy A if you know anything about music.
6 long quizzes for the whole semester based on module and textbook. there's quizlets that have all the test answers tho so you dont have to worry about studying very much. without quizlets the quizzes are pretty tough
The class only consists of 7 quizzes that are 50 questions in 30 minutes. He drops the lowest quiz but the answers ARE NOT on Quizlet (only for the 1st quiz) and the rest are in the book and in the module readings he gives. It's not a hard class but the short amount of him he gives to answer the questions is ridiculous which made me withdraw
Grade is based on 7 quizzes, each containing 50 questions within 30 min. Don't know the answer? Too late, you only have an upwards of 20 seconds really to figure it out. I've never felt so much anxiety during a quiz. Don't bother using his module layouts, as they're not as in depth as they should be. Take notes on everything in the chapters.
Weremchuk's Survey of Rock course is quite simple and straight to the point. The only grades are the quizzes based on each few modules. While the textbook I'd say is recommended to have, much of the content is very well obtained by the online modules created by him. Weremchuk provides solid listening material and readings that I personally enjoyed.
His test were super simple they just have to be done within 30 minutes. However, it was a great class and you learn different things about the history of rock and I really enjoyed the course.
The quizzes weren't fun to take but the class itself was an interesting one.
You have some quizzes. Easy to pass just read his modules or you can easily find the answers elsewhere..
My favorite class!! I loved learning about the subject and the teacher is great! The only grades in the class are quizzes that are all multiple choice, with some questions about a specific song that'll play. You can get the textbook if you want a more in depth understanding but the teacher lays out the basics of each module. Highly recommend!!
I took this class thinking it would be easy/fun and would help boost my GPA after having a bad semester in the Fall. Boy was I wrong. Only graded on a few 50-question quizzes, and we have 30 minutes to take each-definitely not enough time. Scrambled to finish the quiz after doing all assigned readings. So much anxiety!
It's a lot of reading and you are only graded on 7 Quizzes that are 50 points each. But, the quizzes are generally easy and don't include any trick questions, just basic knowledge that you can find in his modules or the textbook. Beware, the notes are from 40+ pages of the textbook at a time!
He is passionate and nice as a professor - however, I thought this class would be different. Majority of the class is based on quizzes, posted module readings & the textbook. It was fairly straight-forward and easy - do the work & you'll be fine. It may be better in-person, but for a GEP requirement it was definitely doable.
Not the class that changed my life, but when I needed one credit, I got three. He teaches through a few web modules with songs and video to accompany text. You do that and an easy quiz and all of that takes about two hours every other week. For three credit hours, I recommend it.
I love rock and roll music, so this has been my favorite class ever. Only graded by 50-question quizzes (the lowest one was dropped). Super informative and engaging modules with excellent music recommendations. Highly recommend this class for anyone who loves oldies music and/or needs an easy A.
I was worried about this class because of the reviews but it was much easier than I thought it would be. The quizzes were easy although just 30 minutes but all answers were in the modules + you don't even need the textbook. He also drops the lowest quiz grade. Modules were interesting too and it's easy for a summer class.
Don't take if you absolutely need an A. 7 quiz, 1 dropped. That's it. Quizzes are 50 questions in 30 minutes, 5 listening ones where you have to know trivia about the artist. Some answers are online, most are in the modules. You can get away with not buying the book. +/- grading style including with an A. So A,A-. You have to average 94 on tests.
Only graded on 7 hard online tests. Not proctored but only gives 30 mins to answer 50 questions. All multiple choice. Drops lowest quiz grade and rounds up a #9.5+ to next grade letter. Provides study guides that have typos. Sometimes tests on incorrect info. Some subject matter is obscene and shouldn't be taught in a formal class. Take if brave.
I do not understand people saying this class was difficult. It was effortless to get As on the quizzes. All the information is in the modules. Although I agree that they were rushed, I always could finish on time. There are only 7 quizzes the whole semester, but it was incredibly easy to get an A
Easy A. class consists of 7 quizzes every other week, 50 questions each, but if you read the modules, you'll get an A on all the quizzes. Professor is super nice. I emailed him about not being able to take a quiz one weekend and he opened it early for me.
The class itself was easy. The only work you have to do is 7 quizzes, which are mildly difficult. You're only given 30 minutes for 50 questions, which isn't easy to do. The professor was just ok in my experience, he was not involved at all in the class. I had one experience with him the entire semester, and it wasn't pleasant.
One test every two weeks, very easy and not too long/ time consuming. He was easy to reach and seems like he cares about his students.
While I never had the chance to actually meet Dr. Weremchuk, I found the class enjoyable. The entire class consists of 7 quizzes based on the module notes and listening guide. The material was interesting and I enjoyed how Dr. Weremchuk added some of his own song recommendations and experiences. Quizzes are easy if you just read the modules.
The only caveat to this course is the fact that the seven quizzes (which comprise 100% of your grade) have 50 questions each and have 30 minutes of time which means you have to really put in time to recall EVERYTHING on the modules. Aside from that, it's a fun course and the material discussed is very interesting, I recommend for music enthusiasts.
Honestly this wasn't my favorite class and I've never met Professor Weremchuk either. He just sends weekly announcements of the work, and will leave the module open to complete. It's 7 quizzes but the lowest gets dropped. The only catch is a 30-minute time limit to complete 50 questions, which is mildly annoying. Otherwise it's easy.
Your grade is only based off of 7 50-question quizzes in 30min, those are the only assignments. I was scared going into it because of the reviews here, but these quizzes are super easy & do-able, everything needed is in the modules. Got through the class w/o the book, not really necessary. Modules are interesting & not too long. Easy & cool class.
great summer course, especially if you are a fan of rock music like myself. modules were really interesting and in depth. 7 MC quizzes, 50 questions in 30 min, with 5 of those listening, but it's way easier than it seems. quizzes are the only thing graded on. good class to get a GEP out of the way especially in summer
Good online class to take, expectations are clearly written out in the syllabus, book is "required" but all information needed for the test can be found in the module.
There was 7 quizzes total, super easy. The time frame is small, one to two days, but it helps to not procrastinate.
This class was very easy. Your grade is based on 7 quizzes, 50 questions each, 30 minutes to take. All of the answers can be found in his modules. The textbook is "required" for this class, but I didn't buy it and ended with a 98%. One quiz is dropped, too. He gives you a good amount of time to take the quizzes for the fall/spring. 10/10 class!
An online class relying purely on textual notes, and the grade is based on seven 50-question quizzes. The quizzes ask many niche questions, so read the texts carefully. The textbook is not really required; the only aspect I used it for was the listening guides provided for the songs throughout the course. It is a pretty easy GEP class.
Free class, 1 test every week which you can just ask Google, drops your lowest grade, got a C because I missed 2 tests.
7 quizzes, one is dropped. Easy GEP or Elective for A!
Easy class, 94 for an A though. 7 quizzes (1 drop) that test your knowledge on rock stuff from different periods outlined in the modules. Quizzes have a 30min timer for 50 questions, not great especially when some questions are obscure factoids. Would have been a lot better if all the quizzes were open from the start instead of a ~3day window.
Overall an easy elective course. The quizzes were a little difficult sometimes, but as long as you read the modules you'll get a good grade on them -- the roughest part was the time limit (30 mins for 50 questions).
graded on 7 tests which open friday, close monday. who makes their tests only open on the weekends?! super inconvenient. idk what these other people mean with 'you can find all the answers in modules'- NO YOU CAN NOT. suuuper obscure questions on a 70 question quiz. i can't for the life of me get above a 91. semi-easy gep, just SUPER annoying.
Very easy class and very nice professor. One quiz each week and that is all.
Class was great. Didn't even really need the textbook since he included lectures. The professor is also great and offers 1 quiz to drop. The workload is light and the whole course is just bi-weekly quizzes. Overall 10/10 class. Would recommend.
This course is very easy and very interesting. If you're even slightly interested in rock music or music history, this is a must-take. The modules have short sections written by Professor Weremchuk accompanied by interviews and live performances that are cool. The textbook goes way more in-depth and is what most of the tests are based on.
Class is literally just quizzes every other week. 50 questions in 30 mins. You don't really need the textbook.
never interacted with him, but didnt ever need to! his class is super straightforward. study his modules and youll do fine on the quizzes. 7 quizzes total, every other week, and its your only grades. they are on canvas, with no lockdown and no webcam. do with that what you will! the class itself was actually interesting, which was a nice surprise.
I took this class online for GEP 6 and it was pretty easy. There are weekly quizzes which are the only assignments. He posts reminders for each quiz. My only complaints are that the quizzes are only open Fri-Mon at 11:59 pm which is super random, and they contain very specific questions. I bought the textbook but you don't need it.
The class is pretty straightforward, you only take 7 bi-weekly quizzes and the lowest score is dropped. The only thing is that each quiz is 50 questions and has a 30 minute time limit. Like someone else said, they're also only open from Friday-Monday. If you decide to buy and read the textbook, the chapters can get pretty long
I am currently in this class, FYI. Honestly, not difficult if you enjoy music and you care to read the information in the modules. If you are really into classic music like I am, you will find a lot of the questions on the quizzes to be content you already know. You don't need the textbook, but read the modules and take your quizzes! Great class.
Great prof and class! Only homework is 7 quizzes, no exams and no other homework. Textbook chapters are provided in canvas. All chapters are outlined in the module making the quizzes pretty easy.
