Excellent instructor and a nice person overall.
He only reads off the Power Point, so it's easy in a sense that you don't have to go to class, but it's boring.
This class really sucks...believe me.
He's personable, helpful when you ask questions. Read the text, review the power points and study his study guide for the exam and you'll do fine. People who don't ace this course do not put in the necessary time....and blame the professors for their C's or D's. He's perfectly reasonable.
I took his mushroom course. GREAT COURSE! Very straight forward. he really knows his stuff, it was a blast taking it, i suggest anyone take it if can, i took it just for fun. A++++++ class
He seemed nice but the class was so boring I never went. He just read the powerpoints without much elaboration.... they're all online though so it's really easy.
My favorite thing about him hands down is the fact that he used to wear tshirts with cartoon characters and put up a picture of him and his sons sitting in a giant mushroom. As a professor, he's enthusiastic but kind of scatterbrained. You need to study a lot on your own to do well on his exam.
This is an easy class, but he has no idea what he is teaching. You go to class to see the powerpoints that are already online and he gives questions at the end that may be on the tests. I recommend for an easy A or B, but the class is super boring.
Very easy class to take. Mostly review the powerpoints, jot down the Q&A, and study for 1 or 2 nights before the exam. Professor is helpful if you have any questions.
fungus part of BIOL 172. a little boring but powerpoints are important.
not bad of a teacher. great part is that the textbook is not needed. all the exam is based on his powerpoints. but there's lots to memorize. his exam was the easiest compared to all the other biol 172 teachers later in the semester. junk part is that he checks attendance.
VERY easy class. I played games on my laptop everyday during the lectures and easily got A's on all the tests. You just have to be able to memorize a lot of information.
Easy class, easy professor. There is no textbook, it is exclusively off of slides that you can download from the internet. Grade based entirely on three tests, but the tests are generally easy - especially if you get the study questions at the end of each lecture (must be in class for this).
He lectures off power points and his test is based primarily off the power point. However, if you want to ace the test, you need to read the book, or else you won't be able to tell the difference between the right answer and the answer that just looks right. If you just want to pass, then just study the power points.
if you need an easy a take this class. didn't go to class most of semester, still got an a. just study questions.
This class is ridiculously easy. There is no textbook; just come to class and write down the questions, which will end up on the exam. Consists of three exams and a final. Answers for the questions are found in the powerpoint presentations, so just memorize the questions and the answers, and you shall get an A.
Easy class, funny guy. Would definitely recommend. Info is all straightforward. Only 3 exams and one final. You don't even need to go to class if you have friends who do.
Wong lectures and at the end of each lecture he gives you 8 questions which will be on the exam. Study and find the anwers for those questions and oyu'll be all good. hes not the best teacher but i think its pretty easy considering its a science class which i personally struggle tremendously
Easy class, fun professor. Tests are based off the questions given at the end of the lecture. I passed most of the tests mainly with previously gained science knowledge, making going to class somewhat boring.
Easy class. Didn't even talk to him once.
No book. Attendance not required but there are 8 questions at the end of each lecture you'll need to know for the test. Just memorize those for the tests and you'll get an A. Lecture is boring. I'm not always convinced he knows what he's talking about. Seems nice but one e-mail response I got came across as condescending. Overall easy class.
A really great guy. He is very knowledgeable about fungi and it was a pleasure to be in his class. He's helpful and always willing to give you an opportunity to improve your grades.
Thought it would be interesting, not really. Great teacher, approachable. Funny though no one laughs. Dont need to come but has made the class harder this year so find the old website(2003) for answers to study questions. Waited till last week to assign last two papers.
Has a really annoying accent, but manageable. Powerpoints aren't the easiest to understand because he hasn't updated them in years. The slides are also messy and too colorful. Some questions on his exams are really annoying because it isn't very specific in what its asking for. Just study the study guide.
Pretty easy class. It isn't the most exciting, but it's one of the easiest. Powerpoint everyday, gives you ten questions, fifty or so of them on the midterm. Pretty cake. Then there's some videos you got to watch with video questions. I think it's like one or two midterms and a final. No textbook required, attendance is recommended.
He is a great guy! Very clear power point lectures....crazy about plants!
Very boring lectures unless you have a strong passion for Biology. Just get the 8 end-of-lecture questions, find the answers using the lecture notes, memorize the answers, get an A. 4 exams, 1 is dropped.
Easiest exam I ever took. I finished in about 10 minutes, literally. Boring class, but show up to avoid the need to study for exams.
While the class is easy, this professor is down right rude if you ever email him or ask a question. Insensitive and gives off the impression that he really does not care about his students. Also, monotone alert.
IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO GET AN EASY A, THEN TAKE THIS CLASS! Your grade is only based on the 4 exams you'll take throughout the semester (the lowest score will be dropped). Exams are super easy because he provides you with the exam questions at the end of every class. As long as you have these questions down, you'll guarantee get an A.
no need go class, he gives 8 questions every class that might be on final, just answer and memorize Q&A and you'll get the A, very easy
No book! Everything is in his powerpoints. There are 8 questions at the end of each lecture & that's where he gets his exam questions. So, go to class & you'll get an A. He puts the powerpoints online prior to class, BUT the 8 questions are NOT on there; he will only show them in class. Also, no homework!
Terrible. Felt unapproachable to several in the class, when he was asked questions gave curt and useless answers. Took forever to assign the last couple of papers and gave students an insane workload for the last couple weeks. Took this for Gen Ed, I think I should have just taken biology.
he's a funny guy, very sweet and innocent. But his lectures are so boring and he moves through the material way too fast. And his study guides are horrible, way too detailed.
Such a nice guy, but his lectures are so boring. The class is easy enough if you get the questions at the end of lecture, because those questions will be on the exams. If other people in the class start emailing the questions to the class, you don't even need to show up at all. Easy class, just boring.
I sent out the study guide and the class average for the final exam was 90%. Super easy class to ace, but also very boring.
Long lectures. Enthusiastic about plants but gives out tedious info. No study guide. Assignments can be between 40-60 parts each. Provides clearer answers if questions are asked. Introduces several unfamiliar terminology, so reading the book is a must (and corresponding lab)! Nice guy. But its information overload!
Huge info dump during lecture. Just reads off the slides which are available on Laulima. Weekly graded homework on MasteringBiology, takes at least an hour and super hard.
Gives lectures and questions to the test are at the end, if you know the questions you can find the answers in his powerpoints, which he posts online the night before he actually gives the lecture. His lectures are a little dry, but he knows what he is talking about. 4 tests, non-cumulative make up your grade. no extra credit, but tests are easy.
Fairly standard class with slides, well written textbook, up to date and relevant material and a good overall survey of modern biology.
Gives eight questions at each end of lecture. All exam questions are the same. It would be easier if you have a friend so you only do half of the work. The problem is finding the right answer that's all. Listening is alright unless you want a perfect score.
He is fussy about small details that have nothing to do with the class, such as people filling out extra information on Scantrons. The material itself is not hard. However, the questions he gives us for his lectures (which are later on the tests) are often incomplete, grammatically incorrect, poorly written, and difficult to understand.
Your entire grade is based off of four exams. He provides questions to the exam at the end of each lecture, but some of them are very ambiguous or grammatically incorrect. The lectures itself are very dry, and he isn't very helpful if you go in for office hours. If you prefer a more independent learning style, then I suggest you take this course.
He is very scattered minded, he will go off on tangents in the middle of class. Also, the lectures are very boring, especially with his monotone voice.
Attendance is mandatory bc you need the questions at the end of the class for the exams. He is smart and knows a lot about the subject. Not very interesting, but the exams aren't too hard if you take notes- not just what the slides are but also what he says.
Most difficult class I've ever taken. The lectures are so boring and each lecture has 10-13 topic questions that are on the tests but none of them are addressed in the lectures he just goes off on a tangent. 7 chapter tests, 70 topic questions, have to memorize all because he picks around 25. Very nice and friendly, just not a very good teacher.
This class is the regular lecture class. All his lectures and powerpoints are the answers to the exam. He gives eight questions at the end of every lecture. He has been teaching biology 101 for many years now and he always does the same thing every year. So just show up, give respect also to him coming to give a lecture.
George's lectures are boring. I dunno if they have anything to do with the exams and his voice is monotone. I stopped going to class in February lol. There's a lecture everyday and he gives you 8 questions that will be on the exam. He cancels class a lot. Make a class Google doc or Quizlet is your best friend. Grade is based off of 4 exams, no EC
From the very beginning, he is straightforward that our grade is determined by 4 exams and 4 exams only, 50 questions each. 8 questions are posted at the end of ppt slides, but only shown in class so work with the rest of your class to get them so you don't have to show up to class. I always skipped. He's a grumpy guy though, not very approachable.
Class grade based off of 4 multiple choice exams. Pretty straightforward. No need to go to class to do good. Would take again.
Fast tempo lecture style with a lot of information. Be prepared before attending lectures (review the slides and read the suggested chapter), take notes in class, do the HW, and study. Questions on the exam are fair and tests your knowledge of main concepts and learning goals. Take the course seriously and you will do well.
Really bad professor, slides are poorly made with occasional errors on them, he loves to shorten concepts/phrases on his slides that make it confusing, and his study guide questions are literally useless facts about bio and the world. Just memorize the study guide its the same stuff on the exam, and don't go to class. Easy class but bad professor.
This class is not what it sounds like It is all about fungus and mushrooms with only a little about magical mushroom and mystical mold. All of the lectures are straight from power points. Like every other review, there are lots questions to answer on the power points that he chooses a few for the tests. He is a very nice guy loves what he teaches
This professor is extremely boring and he speeds through his lectures. You will occasionally see mistakes on his slides and he only briefly explain them as if thats helpful. It is hard to take notes since his pacing is really rushed and terrible. His top hat assignments are confusing, I really hated this class. Would definitely take it AGAIN.
Dr. Wong lays out learning objectives in the beginning of presentations so if you pay attention to those and take notes along the lecture, it's an easy A since the quizzes were almost entirely based on the learning objectives. Class wasn't too easy but definitely manageable. I'd take one of his classes again.
His monotone voice made coming to this class dreadful. There were so many things to memorize, so be sure to memorize all plant groups and their characteristics. Many problems he posted at the end of the slides popped on the exam, so make sure to do those problems ahead of time. Most, if not all, exam questions came from his slides, so review them!
This class was graded entirely on 3 tests and a discussion post each week, so if you do bad on one your grade will suffer and it can be difficult to make it up. The class was pretty easy though, just pay attention to the learning goals for each lecture as those are the questions on the tests.
On top of horrible tests, the dude's a snooze fest
One of the best professors tbh. He gives easy quiz, all you have to do is look at the lecture slides and look at the 10 questions at the end of the slides, now answer those (answeres are on the slides) and every quiz, he usese 8 of those questions and puts in on a quiz. If you answer all lecture questions, guaranteed an easy A. Discussion posts ez.
I liked this professor more than Curtis Daehler, who simultaneously taught Bio172 for other modules in this course. His slides were packed with information and highlighted what was important and on the test. Basically you could work on something else and answer zoom questions. You could just look back at the slides when reviewing for the exam.
Never updates his lecture material, and is always disorganized and doesn't seem to have a clue what is going on. Puts zero effort into preparing lab material and topics. This class is offered at KCC and is taught by a professor who cares about what he's teaching, I suggest that student's avoid Wong at all costs.
This professor takes an interesting subject and makes it extremely boring. He is very disorganized, and does not update any of his lecture material. He doesn't keep up with current science, and disregards taxonomical changes that are relevant to the subject. He is stuck in the Paleozoic era, and his lecture material reflects this. Do not recommend.
I can tell this professor really enjoys the subject that he teaches. I never thought I'd be interested in mushrooms, but here I am. The lectures are about 1-2 hours long but that's normal. He lectures the whole time so make sure you write down the answers to the learning objectives, which you will be tested on. Do your weekly discussions and study!
Hes a great lecturer. Lots of information since its an introductory course and will basically point out what will be on the exam.
I really enjoyed the subject material of this class, so I found it interesting. Professor Wong makes it clear what will be on the exam and what won't be. My only complaint with him is that every exam we took was full of spelling errors and/or numbered wrong so that there was an error with the scantron. Just mildly annoying.
Dr. Wong was an okay lecturer. His slides were not amazing but had all of the info needed for the exams. He was not the most tech-savvy but definitely improved throughout the class. The course is difficult because of the large amount of content, but for his module, I would say the listen to lectures and attend learning assistant sessions if can.
Very nice and interesting lectures!
His class is very lecture/test heavy, but the class is interesting. He grades everything based on 3 tests and a discussion type post every week. The good news is that on every lecture slides there are learning goals, which are basically questions for the tests, and he even posts the lecture slides online. It is a fun class, with a fun topic.
BOT135 is a great class. You see just how impactful fungi is on your everyday life. Dr. Wong is very passionate about the topic and you can tell by how he talks about it. 3 exams worth 85% of your grade and a weekly blog post. Very lecture heavy. Go to every lecture, write down learning goals before class and fill them in during lecture. Take it!!
BOT135 was a very easy class, but the majority of our grade was based on exams. Exams were not open notes, but exam questions were taken from the learning goals that he posted with each powerpoint. Lectures were very long and he had a monotone voice, but the content was interesting. He's much more interesting one-on-one, though.
He teaches one section of BIO172. Very monotone so if you are running on little sleep, there's a possibility you may pass out He does not scan the classroom to see if anyone has questions so you are left with no response. Exams are scantron. Start studying earlier for them because it is A LOT of material.
I liked Dr. Wong. Yes, there's a lot of information but he makes sure to emphasize what to focus on in order to do well on the exam.
Shouldn't be teaching 100 level Bio. Lectures are VERY fast and hard to keep up. Expected to remember too many random, tiny details at a time. Very overwhelming. Showed my pre-med brother study guide/content and asked if this was normal for Bio & he said absolutely not. Prof. is also not kind, understanding, or warm, by any means. Don't recommend.
hes alr ig
This class was extremely disappointing. Prof. Wong barely covered the material I was interested in (magic mushrooms), and is very uninteresting to listen to. The homework was not hard but the memorization needed for the exams was extremely difficult due to the fact that the content and the way he teaches is not inspirational nor motivating.
He did not know how to use technology and classes took forever because he had to constantly ask for help in how to work the board. When students in my class asked questions sometimes he would not answer them correctly which made us feel like he didn't understand his own material. Did not make me feel confident that I would succeed.
He doesn't understand technology or the material fully which caused him to get confused and say conflicting information. He is a sweet guy. He messed up on a few test questions and it is hard to know the true information.
There were lots of in-class and homework questions most of which seemed like unnecessary busy work, although the questions on both were very similar to the exams if not the same questions. Not that well-versed in the world of technology, often messing up the questions in-class and for homework. Often went off-topic and had too much info on slides.
Professor reiterates his argument throughout the semester that accumulated scientific knowledge and scholarship is not an objective nor a neutral field and should be questioned and be critical of it, but during his class he uses materials (documentaries, videos, lecture notes) older than 20 years old.
For Biology 171, it was split into 3 instructors and Dr. Wong was the 2nd one. Although he may ramble a bit, he was really straight forward with the answers to the questions. When I was trying to answer the questions to the study guide, I was able to find his answers so quickly and its straight forward.
This professor makes sure that the things he goes over in class are the subjects that will be present in the lectures. The lectures are informative and enjoyable. However, be aware that his exam will go in-depth, so you should heavily go over the study guide and overall go over reading material/outside sources to have a better grasp of the subject
I really enjoyed Dr. Wong. At times he would go pretty fast through material but I thought it was manageable to keep up. He explains hard topics well and is available to answer any questions. I scored a 90 on the section that he taught. You are able to skip class but wouldn't recommend, because it makes much more sense in person.
lectures were optional, all slides shown in the lecture were posted. Test heavily relied on memorization.
Dr. Wong was a good instructor. Although it did seem like he rushed through his lectures, he was helpful when asking questions and his slides made it accessible to know what is needed outside of class (though, it can be a bit cluttered). He provides a summary at the end of each lecture which really helps. Overall, he's not the best, but good enough
Prof Wong was the 2nd lecturer for the course and I would say he was my favorite one. He explained things pretty clearly, though there was sometimes so much details it was kind of overwhelming. His exam was okay, as long as you knew the important and general facts, you're good.
I could tell he cared a lot about fungi, but I underestimated how little I cared. Test questions are from learning objectives. If you upload PPTs to NotebookLM it is very helpful. He does offer study sessions via Zoom before tests, and they are helpful if the answers to the learning objectives are not in the PowerPoint or are unclear
I took magical mushrooms and mythical molds. The class wasn't what I thought it would be; it was way more sciencey. The class is gonna be hard if you can't sit through lectures, take notes and study well because it's very test heavy. Wong is very smart though, I totally respect him. Now I know how his classes work, I would take one again.
Dr. Wong was the 2nd lecturer of Bio171 and he was my favorite. He tends to tell a lot of stories that remind him of what we are talking about which personally helps me remember the information more.
Very calm and relaxing but informative professor. Tests are 85% of the grade so go to class, follow the lecture notes he posts and you'll be cruising. Tests cover exactly what is talked about in class. Material is seriously interesting, however, is much less about magic mushrooms than you would anticipate.
I may be biased because of having a good TA, but I liked how he structured the class. His labs were clear and most importantly interesting, the writing aspect was actually pretty doable and there were almost no issues with this course. Overall, I enjoyed his lab and would definitely take him again.
This is the lowest grade I've gotten in a college course. It isn't that it's hard, it's just only graded on three exams. It is important to attend the lectures or else you will be unprepared for exams. Professor is a bit boring but he is a nice guy who tries.
Attendance is optional. Homework is light, ask one question and respond to two once a week. 85% of your grade is based on 4 exams. If you want an A, study the questions on his slideshows properly and in-depth. If you are fine with a B or C, then using Quizlet to study for exams is fine.
Everything on the exams are on his lectures and posted in Laulima on his learning goals, but because there are so many lectures and goals the exams can be difficult. My class' average for all 4 tests was only 60%, and this is after he raised it so we could get there. He constantly blamed the students for performing poorly so…not a great teacher
Knowledgeable but slides are overloaded with information and overcrowded; difficult to read even during lecture. Attended office hours once to ask for clarification on a topic and was told to read the textbook or ask a friend. He never answered my question and turned me away. He also booked a meeting with a professor during our scheduled meeting.
The lectures are dull and difficult to comprehend. Does not answer questions. Tells students to "Google or look in the textbook" for the answer to their questions. During the recitation (its extra credit), he only talked about being a vegan, buying electric cars, and not the related exam information.
Nice guy just not my type of professor.
