very unorganized, confusing, to many papers, typed exam right before class and made us wait, boring
Pushy with is opinion, and won't budge on it one bit when it comes to grading. Ambiguous test questions. Must know material from book, notes, and mostly what he says (so its hard for you to prove). Talks down to you when you ask a questions.
does alot of talking without saying much, but repeats himself enough that you get all the material covered. Good sense of humor, the tests are easy if you just read over the notes he gives. The grade you receive is the one you deserve
He never shuts up...he expects you to know EVERYTHING that goes on and has gone on in the whole world....he is impossible and his class sucks.
notes are very confusing, his opinion is the ONLY opinion, so hard to understand and expects you to memorize EVERY detail he mentions in class (even if he doesn't write it down) I wouldn't recommend him at all
If you are not interested in geography, or a poor student, do not take this class.
Most unorganized and opinionated person I know. Thinks he is the smartest man alive and can do whatever he wants. Never responds to emails and is very unclear.
He is the most arrogant, pompous, and conceited man I have ever met. He lacks all organization, is terrible with grading and returning things, is extremely offensive, and yells at people for asking ?'s. I can't believe I am paying $ for this class!
he thinks he is the smartest prof on campus. it's not his fault if there is something wrong. he blames technology when he can't figure out power points. very-very opinionated. drives me nuts.
This teacher makes things very unclear and has the hardest tests ever!!
For a 100 level course the tests are insane. The tests are much to complicated for what they should be. A lot of notes for each test and if you need help...don't ask him. Believes he is the smartest person ever.
Tests are difficult, and material covered on tests is not clear
Thinks he is right about everything. You get tested on his opinions and not REAL facts. Take my advice on this...don't pay money to be tested on and learn the opinions of one arrogant man, take a different professor and pay to learn the truth!!!
DO NOT take this course!! I got stuck with it and it's only a gen ed for me! He is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. For a 110 class, tests are rediculously hard. If you can, stay as far away from Cravins as you can!
Expect confusion, anger, a suit and cowboy boots. Possible delusions of grandeur.
I went into this class thinking that I was going to be learning about geography and global issues. I WAS WAY WRONG!! If you want to take a class with tests that are impossible and on one mans opinion then by all means take this class!
His notes arent the same as the test questions and his tests are impossible. I hate him.
sucks bigtime. the worst professor here! very opinionated and discriminating if your not a geo major. AVOID him!
it was geo 110, but seemed like geo 4,000! noted and tests don't match, he sucks the big one. and everything is stupid to him
he once gave a scantron multiple choice test & didn't include the answers in the choices--we were suppose to write them in--it was not a fill in the blank test. Trust me this is only the tip of the ice berg--DO NOT TAKE CRAVINS--
He is the absolute worst professor every. For a gen ed and 100 level course it doesn't seem like it at all!
Girls, cover up. This man's a **** big time. Egotistical...the cowboy boots are a manifestation of that. Gross long, long, yucky fingernails, too!! :-(
Cravin's is so strange. Tells the wierdest stories and then yells at us. I did love the purse, cowboy boots and how he tucked his tie in his pants. He's a terrible professor, doesn't help, his test are no joke, IMPOSSIBLE. Avoid him at all cost!!!!
Cravin's classes are wonderful if you are self motivated, like to think outside of the box, and you can learn from an opinionated viewpoint. You can learn more from Cravins if you use analysis to challenge his opinions. He supports independent study
He is a very odd man and will share stories with you that you may not find interesting. His tests were very hard for a 200 level class. All tests are base on notes but somethings might show up on the test that were not presented in class. You have to write four papers and take 3 lecture test.
unclear, hard, ****
Good teacher-very opinionated!!!!!!Write a solid paper and 3 tests......You should be able to get a solid C..Heard bad things about him..not all that bad..does get very excited about certain issues..loves you if you are a geo major.
Horrible Man...doesn't follow an outline and crams tons of usless info. into your head and tests you on other info. Don't take him.
well, if you don't care about your grade he's somewhat amusing because he offends every possible group of people. But he's extremely unorganized in lectures and crams useless junk. His exams always have errors and ridiculous questions, but he does try to give points back in some odd way.
very unorganized, funny guy and knowlegable but doesn't know how to teach
Ravin Cravin's is a crazy man that doesn't know if he's coming or going. If you want to be confused, disoriented, and just overall frustrated I recommend taking his class.
very unorganized
one crazy fool
If you are a geo major this class is great. He is very funny with his off-the-wall stories. Very honest, opinionated teacher. Be prepared to argue if you have strong feelings on politics. He is very good at helping understand current events.
Here is a professor that you will remember. Yes, he is a little crazy, but there is a method to his madness. You will learn a lot if your dig geography. He is one of the best professors at helping students get into graduate school. Also very respected outside of LAX for geography.
I've had Crazy Cravins for 5 classes. He is opininated, disorganized, obnoxious, incredibly smart, and helpful. Don't expect to speak in class or have your own opinion. You never know what will happen in a Cravin's class or what stories he will tell, but expect one large paper and essay-based tests.
Crazy is just that, but if you are a bit liberal minded and not easily offended, you might a get a kick out of this guy and learn quite a bit. tests are mostly essay and expect one paper in his classes. Cravins will go out of his way to help students-if you are thinking of grad school speek to him
He is absolutely horrible with clarification and his tests suck because even if you don't have something in your notes he will put it on the test and say that he went over it and there's nothing you can do about it. However, he knows what he is talking about, very intellectual.
All in one lecture, he shared w/ the class that he never had his sons circumcized & that he was never going to be cremated or donate his organs (both of which had nothing to do w/ the lecture). He's disoriented & unorganized. He's smart, but it doesn't help when the info given is out of order. :(
Great teacher, gets a bad rap from alot of people, but just bare with him. He's disorganized, but makes class very fun. Try hard and you should do great. My favorite class by far. I plan to take as many classes as i can with this crazy fool.
Cravins is a little different from the rest of the professors, but can also be a good thing. He is more than happy to speak with you after class about almost any topic. He ia also helps almost any student that is trying to get into grad school.
Will not let you take exams early under ANY circumstances unless extreme illness. In class, he was funny if you aren't easily offended. He is disorganized and unclear sometimes, but that's part of the charm. A planner and an outline wouldn't hurt, but his class is educational anyway.
do not take, not helpful, offensive, disorganized, tests you on material you didn't discuss because he was too busy telling you his opinon on chesse flavors or whatever else doesn't have a thing to do with the class. not understanding, boring, hard. avoid at all costs.
This man is all over the place and even he can't follow himself. He's constantly off the subject. He's always right and everyone else is wrong and sometimes can be a little offensive. Oh and even if your notes say something- it might be wrong on the test.
Very capable guy
I have taken almost every class that he offers, and I believe him to be the best professor I have had. He makes you think outside of the box and a lot of people are afraid to do that. He is very intelligent, and gives you his opinions straight. Be prepared to repeat that on tests and you will do fine. Don't take offense to what he says.
bottom line-- you take cravins and you will get a much worse grade then the other prof's. Do you want a good grade? dont take him! I busted my but and got a C, others D's, and they tried very hard. HE will rip you off. Yeah he is a good guy, but what is important to you?
On one of the tests we had in this class (a multiple choice test), for THREE different problems, he didn't even put the correct answer as a choice AND HE STILL TOOK OFF IF YOU DIDNT CROSS OUT ALL THE ANSWERS AND WRITE IN ONE OF YOUR OWN!!! Don't take unless you want to fail!
he is the most unorganized prof. he throws all of this info at you and wants you to know it all. we had to memorize the world map in 5 days. his tests are HORRIBLE
He is a very knowledgeable person. If you're at college to gets A's and not learn anything, then don't take his classes. If you want an in-depth look at cultures in society he is your man. I find him to be brilliant.
He's the worst teacher I've ever had. I've had some bad ones, but he beat them all. He KNOWS his stuff, but has a very hard time getting it across in a clear manner. I have realized that for the first time in my life, I will not receive an A. This is due to the fact that it is impossible to receive a good grade. VERY unorganized! Avoid him!
He gives the craziest tests. He takes a random person's notes, copies their notes, and all the questions from the test come from that random person's notes. If you didn't write something down then you are screwed...too bad for you. We have a test last week and we haven't even got the one from a month ago back yet. How can they let him teach?
Too many people take his 110 class with the mentality "This should be easy, it's a 110 class". Well if that is you, don't take his class. It will be challenging, and his tests are going to be hard.
All of you complaininjg need to grow up. This is college, not high school. You wont get all As and you need to work for your grades. That being said he is a little unorganized with his thoughts, but if you actually take notes and study somewhat you shouldnt have a problem.
Very random, but kinda funny too, in a weird way. It is not IMPOSSIBLE to get a good grade, he'll give study guides for the test and follow them relatively closely. Kinda hurts your head to try to follow class though.
very, very random! he switches from one subject to the next in a matter of minutes and then goes back to the previous subjust, can be very confusing! suggest re-writing the notes for exams...they are quite hard!
I have to admit that I have learned quite a bit from him, but not in an organized manner. Usually I leave class just plain confused about everything he had told us earlier. His lectures are not in order--he talks about something and then a little while later goes back to it. It makes it hard to keep the notes/regions straight.
Can lick my taint.
Dr Cravins is cool because he knows so much and he isn't afraid to say what he thinks, this guy is really fun to listen to. Unfortunately, he is extreemly unorganized and his tests are HARD. An A is definitly possible, but his classes are not for those who only want to do the minimum.
**** this guy.
THis guy is brilliant! Anybody who doesn't like him is lazy. He doesn't make it an easy A, but if you listen and take notes... with minimal work I got a B. 1. hes not a brainwashed liberal ****. 2. he makes you learn, if you get an A or an F you'll come out of the class a more knowledeable person, and thats whats important
Very knowledgeable and interesting
Not horrible, but not great either. Will do anything to help you if you see him in his office! He means well, but sometimes he wears on you. Knowledgable in many areas, but really he's just a good bull****er! That's all he does is BULL***T! Good study guides though, can pass no problem, just don't argue with him. DON'T ARGUE WITH HIM! Remember that
For all the GEO-110ers who complain about hard tests or having to learn the globe in -gasp!- 5 days...this is college! If you can't see beyond that and to what Cravins really knows, then don't take him...take Wingate if you want an easy A. Cravins is incredibly intelligent and insightful.
Was a difficult class, but I learned sooo much from him. It was the most productive semester of learning that I've ever gotten from one class. He can be an *ss and is not clear on what he expects, but still not too bad.
If you plan on taking a lot of geography couses, take him! Seriously, he's the only interesting professor in the geo department. He's a good guy and won't hesitate to pick on you. It's kinda' tough for a gen-ed, but it's college... seriously. take him!
You actually have to put work into his class, but his lectures are very interesting and he knows a lot about the world. I personally loved his class, and if you studied for his test you're golden...and learning the world map isn't hard. He grades papers pretty easy too.
This guy is crazy and shockingly disorganized. But, he is so smart its scary and he is definitely the funniest professor on campus. Tests are really hard and EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF HIS MOUTH IS TESTABLE! Other than that, his classes are incredible. Take as many of his classes as you can if you want to pursue a geography major/career in geo.
I have taken every class from this dude. I totally understand the extreme comments on here on both ends. He is very opinionated, who isnt, the only diff. is that he speaks it in class. Does not care about being PC, but this is exactly the type of professor every university needs. You will definitely think outside the box. Good for ur future.
Would go off on tangents and forget what he had gone over. He did not use a text book, simply went off of handouts to the class. He was very interesting, but very confusing.
The guy gets in front of the class and just starts rambling. Then he'll test you on his rants! He constantly tells us how much smarter he is than the other professors which, from my experience, is contrary to reality. I will do my best never to take him again.
Hes an excellent tacher
Doesn't cover all the material that appears on the test. The questions on the tests are "metaphors" of what you talked about in class. Doesn't prepare you for the tests well at all. Rambles on about non-course related content. You might do semi-well if you spend your entire life devoted to this class..otherwise,good luck ..avoid at all costs.
Poor teacher...Avoid taking his class if you can, because I'm sure you would have a much more enjoyable experience with another teacher. The tests are ridiculous since he just rambles in class and expects you to catch everything he says. Also was very rude to some students while in class for no reason except they were asking him a question.
His class was awful. His tests were extrememely hard. I was really sick and he wasn't even nice about it and told me to get a physicians note for proof, didn't tell me that the other 2 times i had emailed him about being ill, he told me that the day of the final. He rambles all class and is really hard to understand. avoid his class!
his geo 110 class sucks!!! it is the hardest class ever. i learned nothing from this class nor will i have used anything if i learned it!!!! worst prof ever
Best teacher at UWL
a Passionate proffessor
Trully one of the most interesting classes I have taken. his rating is low because students often like to memorize things. come ready to have a discussion. don't bring a pen or a notebook. just participate and actually learn somthing- I have a geograthy minor and I will not take a Geography class unless it is with this teacher. An easy A every time
I at first thought i would definitely fail this class but now i think that i am gonna do ok and he covers the material super fast and is one of the most random people i have ever heard speak but overall i have never learned more in one class ever i was really interested in everything he taught us, he knows a lot about our world
I got a B in his class, but it was not an easy B. His tests are hard and tricky. His lectures are boring, and you must attend every class to fully even stay on track. He is very unorganized and easily distracted. He gives too much details about everything and expects you to remember everything. A VERY BAD TEACHER.
One of the smartest professors you are likely to meet.
I have looked these rating over, and I feel they are very unfair (in general). He is a difficult teacher, but is knowledgeable, fun, and very personable. If you are a college student who puts forth minimal effort, or like to miss class it will be tough. Otherwise, it is a very informative, intersting class that CAN be easily aced.
This class requieres a lot of studying but more of studying his opinions and not the book which is frustrating!!! You can show him the correct answer in the book and he will say it is not right based on his own opinions. Does not listen to your opinion and is impossible to argue with because he does not listen and will never ever think he is wrong.
I would not suggest taking Professor Cravins if you're not a Geography Major, or something like that. He expects that the entire class is Geo majors and teaches to them. He is willing to talk to you if you have questions, but is still not very clear. Lectures have absolutely no structure. He's a smart guy, but is confusing.
This is the worst professor on campus. The class is all about learning his oppinions on the world & politics. He proudly stated many times that he feels that the curriculum at UW-L is to easy so he makes his class extreemly hard. He makes fun of some of his past students and and uses vulgar phrases. DO NOT TAKE CRAVINS if you want to pass GEO 110!
Good professor, pretty interesting and definately smart. Show up to class and listen to his lectures and you'll do fine, which isn't too tough since hes a pretty entertaining lecturer. You'll have to study for tests but you'll have comprehensive study guides for them. Suck it up and do the work and you'll be fine.
The smartest guy in the Geo department. He knows everything about anything. His teaching style is random, but once figure out how to study for his exams, his classes are easy. Funny guy who wants to see kids learn and do well. I've taken multiple classes with him, well worth it!!!
What the people below aren't telling you is how unorganized this guy is. He is never in his office for office hours, he has not turned back a single complete test to us yet, and he is almost never to class on time. If you study you should be okay on the tests, then again it's hard to tell when you don't know half of your grade by the end!
horrible!
I would recommend Cravins if you are at all interested in Geography. His classes are not easy, but you will learn A LOT. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever met.
i think his notes, etc are very unorganized. but if you go through & organize them yourself AND write down pretty much everything he says on the test - you'll be fine. you'll actually learn something in this class & he expects you to be able to apply it to. harder tests but he curves them...
Dr. Cravins is possibly the smartest professor on campus. His classes are easy when you get used to his teaching style. Textbooks are never used, there are no assignments, and there is only one paper for the majority of his classes. Some of his classes are only one day a week - easiest 3 credits in the GEO department!
Terrible Professor. When asking questions about what's in the textbook he tells you that he's right & the book's wrong. Late for exams & doesn't give you any extra time. Expected to memorize every country in the world within the first week of class. 1/2 of the exam was not covered in lecture or on study guide. Very unapproachable & shoots down ?'s.
bad teacher
This class is rough, take it with another professor if you want less work. The tests are crazy and the amount of information he expects his students to have is for the most part impossible. He puts questions on the test that he thinks that he might have talked about, but realizes he never did when everyone gets half of them wrong.
Very Knowledgable. Test are on the harder side but you learn a lot. Take him if you are at all interested in Geography.
This is the worst professor ever. Do not take a class with him under any circumstances. I am a geo major and I STILL didn't get anything from this class. His lectures are incomprehensible and he doesn't help students if you go in for office hours.
DO NOT TAKE HIS GEO 110 CLASS! He is incredibly unorganized and he likes to pick on the students in class and mocks them when they are not there. I am a Junior and this class required more pointless effort than some of my 300 level courses.
Worst class I have ever taken. Only class I have not gotten credit for in my life. Tests and quizzes are beyond difficult. Picks on students and calls them out. Never thinks he's wrong. Believes all of his students are wrong before he believes he is wrong. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HIM.
Cravins is a hilarious man. His lectures are refreshingly amusing and you learn A LOT. Getting an A will require effort, as it should in college. He is possibly the most intelligent man on campus, and has traveled almost everywhere. People misinterpret his way of getting to know people as "being called out," but you have to realize it's out of fun.
Dr. Cravins is very knowledgeable. I would recommend taking his class if you have the chance.
Crazy cravins is as wacky as they come. He definitely kept the class interested however it was not on geography rather on his tangents he would go off on. The class is incredible difficult. There is stuff on the tests that we have never gone over in class. He doesnt usually use lecture notes he just talks and you are supposed to know what important
Cravins is awesome. He is a hoot with his crazy cravins tangents but the class is really difficult. Writes pages and pages of 10 pt font lecture notes-single spaced. Tests cover material never talked about in class. Difficult to earn a C.
Very difficult for a general ed class. Very disorganized, sometimes he would be late to class or have to leave for prolonged periods and expect student to wait. Attendance is mandatory with NO free days. Tests are based on what he SAYS in lecture, not on notes he gives. Good person, bad teacher.
DON'T TAKE HIM!! He expects you to know WAAYYY to much on the exams. Though he is very passionate about geography and is very knowledgeable, he expands way to much about things we don't need to know. He curves exams, but there are a select few that get A's. Super difficult class for a gen ed. If your looking to take an easy class DON'T take this on
Probably one of the worst generals I took, because of the teacher. I was actually quite excited to take the class, but ended up spending every day counting the time to leave, because I was so bored. He also has ridiculous expectations with what you need to know, without ever really teaching it to you. Very disappointed with this class.
The guy knows his stuff. People who complain about his class do either do not pay attention, or they are too lazy to go to class. I have taken almost all of his classes. Show up to his classes and put in a decent effort and you will do fine.
His lectures are very difficult to follow and taking notes in class provided fruitless for me. The tests are pretty hard - he expects you to know A LOT of information that was barely covered. He is kind of funny, but has favorites. Will call people out in front of everyone. You will appreciate him if you actually really enjoy geography.
The dude is on point. It's not a cake class, but you learn more than standard geography. Current events. Global infrastructure. Globalization. National trends. The classroom discussions were super involved if the class knew their material. If you dig a challenge and can take some solid jabs from the teach, this class is legit.
Don't take his class.
Very opinionated and expects you to know a lot of information on exams. Does not go by the textbook, rather by what he lectures. The lectures are long and boring as he strictly reads from a powerpoint EVERY time. Gives the grades to the favorites of the class. I would not recommend taking him for a gen ed.
He is a great professor. Don't expect an easy A. You need to get involved and know the material. I've had him for 4 classes (GEO major). If you don't care about global perspective and just want to 'check a box', then take another class. I looked forward to his classes and learned a lot. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Cravins is fantastic. No, his classes are not easy, but guess what, you are in college. He does go off in tangents, but he has done everything from being in the Marines to living in Indonesia and is an ever pouring source of information.
One of the best classes I took while at UWL. Is he opinionated, yes. Is his class hard, yes. If you show up and pay attention, you will do fine. I seriously wish I could take his courses again!
This was literally the most boring class I have ever taken. I play angry birds until even that bores me. His tests suck, not straightforward at all. Asks questions about things we never even went over. Overall a poor course and poor teaching.
I took this course online over the summer and half way through found out that Cravins wasn't supposed to be the teacher and had never taught online before. He didn't use D2L for the exams, everything was through email. Very disorganized. I do not recommend taking this course online. I don't know how he is in the classroom but online was terrible
Class is mandatory. Make sure you talk and join in discussions in his class because he really likes that. Textbook is never used and he is pretty easy grader. His tests are kind of confusing but just study and join in class discussion and you will get a A in this class. He is opinionated but respects your opinion and will listen. Cool guy.
I have taken 4 classes with Cravins and none of them were that bad. If you communicate during class and speak up if you feel your answer was right on the test he will usually change it. Dont be shy and participate in class and you will easily get a B. Also for those who say his test are hard, if you cover all of the material you can get a B easily.
He is amazing at teaching what he knows the problem is when it comes to the exams. Their are only 3 exams and they are incredible detailed, even the people that study a lot do not get an easy A. He does try to make everyone pass the class, his humor is different.. Great experience but not such a great grade.
hardest class I've ever had. Don't take this professor. He expects way too much for an entry-level general ed class. Tests are incredibly detailed and difficult... nearly impossible to get an A. Disorganized and hard to follow. Weird sense of humor. He's a nice guy and knows his stuff and is helpful, just isn't a good professor overall.
Farthest thing from an easy A. He's a nice guy and knows his stuff but he expects you to become a master of global issues in this class. I learned a lot from this class but his tests are difficult and sometimes poorly written. He will work with you and help if you ask though. If you're looking for a GenEd, look elsewhere.
Hardest class I've taken ever. He is a smart man, but he teaches this 100 level course like a 400 level course. He expects everyone to be a GEO major and definitely has favorites. If you are shy and don't talk much in class, you will not do good, guaranteed. Never have gotten below a B in college, scored a whopping D with Cravins..
Dr. Cravins is a very educated professor, but he doesn't clearly communicate that to the students. His tests are hard and he's an even harder grader. He makes you feel stupid when asking questions, but the material isn't clear, so good luck. He's not very helpful and makes this course way harder than it needs to be. Hardest 100 class I've had.
Lots of material and very overwhelming. I was sick and missed class because I was at the health clinic, even told him yet he wouldn't let me make up the quiz very unfair. This class is not a good idea if you aren't a geography major. He talks literally the whole time.
I am here to let you know about George Cravins. He is extremely intelligent and knows his field better than anyone I have ever met. Sadly, he is a horrid communicator. He goes off-topic 90% of the class, his tests are near-impossible to do well on, the study guides are 18 pages of hard-to-understand questions, etc. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Avoid this professor at all costs. His talks are so long and his slides that he posts on D2L are just as long. He goes off on topics that aren't related to things that will be on the test so you never know what to study for on the tests. Gives out study guides but you have to google the answers most of the time. Very hard grader and professor.
Makes it way harder then it should be for an entry level class.
Cravins is very intelligent and definitely knows what hes talking about. However, his knowledge of geography is almost completely discounted by the fact that he is terribly unorganized, poor at communicating with students in and out of class, and horrible at keeping students up to date with their course grade.
Dr. Cravins is a great professor in that he really knows what he is talking about. However, class is boring, lectures are super long and tests are hard. The only plus side is that he gives a lot of bonus points when our class test averages were terrible. Would not take again unless I absolutely needed to.
Cravins is not an easy professor. But, if you try in class, try to participate in discussion, and attempt to ask him questions he will be very willing to help. His tests are long and he is terribly unorganized, but he has interesting power points and really tries to keep the class involved during long lectures.
Its amazing how much he knows about his area of study but it is difficult to remember all the information he gives you. If you take his class make sure you participate because he really likes you if you are an active participant in class.
Personally, I love him as a professor. He knows SO much. If you have a sense of humor and joke around with him he will love you. He is absolutely willing to help if you go into his office. Also, if something is tough for you, such as the tests, just explain to him why they are so hard and he will definitely use your feedback.
Worst prof. ever. Please do not take if you want to do well.
Worst professor ever ! He needs to retire.
Doesn't seem to have the course well planned out. Jumps around on material and will go off on tangents about areas that are not even related to the one's you are learning about. If you are not a Geo Major DO NOT TAKE HIM! he will not take the time to help you if you have questions.
This guy is FUNNY. I breezed through this course freshmen year. Knowing your way around a map will really help you. Show up to class. Loved the class, but he can be very picky.
He is VERY smart but he does not belong in a classroom teaching college students. He jumps around the information and gives you WAY too much information to comprehend on the test. He tries to be funny but he's not. He gives participation points, but he does it by giving random people a piece of paper to sign. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE!!!
The criteria is easy but he's rarely on time to class, and will sometimes put in a video of himself lecturing and leave the room. Very aggressive person, if you are uncomfortable with a male yelling at you, do NOT take this class. He often speaks over students and won't let them finish what they are saying. Overall, a disrespectful professor.
Very opinionated and if you don't agree with his beliefs, you are wrong. His tests are super hard and he does not prepare you for them at all. He puts information on tests about things we talked about for 30 seconds. You do not know your final grade until the end of the semester. If you are looking for an easy A do not take this class.
He uses your class period to complain about how nothing is going well. You don't learn anything relevant. He's very confusing and his powerpoint are typically 60 slides full of nothing but text. He tests you on things that he doesn't teach. He's very opinionated and rude to his students. I'd recommend another professor for this gen. ed.
Cravins is extremely smart about geography, and loves you if you participate in class. However, he is an extremely tough grader. His tests contain a ton of information and during one of my classes he even said: "why am I making this test so hard? It's a 100 level class." The tests are curved, though, so that did save my grade. I would avoid.
Brutal. Cravins is the type of professor that says "just write down every single thing I say in this hour and 20 min lecture and some of it will be on the test so good luck." Super unorganized. The only positive thing I have to say is that the guy is really smart and knows probably everything about this subject, but SUCKS at teaching it.
He doesnt teach out of a text book and provides real perspective about things that matter. He may seem intimidating at first but if you participate hell lighten up. He tells the truth and isnt under someones agenda. He has a huge heart and will give you honest answers even if you dont agree with them. He may tangent but if you ask the question
The tests are extremely specific and he throws words around without defining them. the study guides are useless and he says whatever comes to the front of his head without thinking. If you actually talk to him he can give you ok answers but the students need to keep him on topic. if you take his class memorize the slides.
Dr. Cravins knows a whole lot about geography and global issues. His tests are usually curved well because the multiple choice questions are fairly tricky. If you participate, he will love you. He is quite the character.
He is very knowledgeable about geography, but can't teach it. Tests are very loosely based on the powerpoints, with the remainder being things he may have only mentioned once in class . Very condescending if you ask a question, and takes the most roundabout ways to come to an answer leaving you more confused than you were before. Crams too much in!
I for one am not a fan of prof. Cravins. He is a VERY nice guy don't get me wrong. He is just a very cluttered professor. He lectures 90 min. every class no matter what. There is no group work, and he just expects everyone to know all the info. Class is taught as if you are going to be a Geography major. Also he is very condesending.
Worst professor ever. Tests are so hard and nothing like the review packet. Your only grades for the semester are 2 exams, a final, attendance & participation oh and a map quiz that requires you to learn all 196 countries in the first week of class. I do not recommend taking this class.
Cravins is an ass to say the least. His lecturers are boring as hell and he often strays away from the ppt. If you don't pay attention in class though you won't be able to fill out his 12 page study guides (and those are for normal exams). He expects you to memorize every detail of his lecture for exams. DO NOT waste your time if you value GPA
Dr. Cravins is very reliant on long lectures to convey test material, which is not always clear. Entire grade is a world map quiz and 3 tests are so, although he tends to help with ex. credit opportunities & a curve. W/o pre-existing knowledge of the course and/or a genuine interest in the subject, I think this class will be very difficult.
Horrible teacher. Makes no sense, super unorganized, extremely difficult. Means well, but over all just not a good teacher.
Speaks in generalities about other cultures very often in lecture. Will say things like "the Turks do this" or "poles worship this way" and talks mostly about himself in lecture. Will use out of date terms to reference an ethnic group and actually gives conflicting information from what is taught based on the archaeological record. I would avoid.
Participate in class! If you participate in class, Cravins will like you. It isn't difficult to get an A if you look over lecture notes and give some effort. However, if you don't do these things, you will absolutely not succeed in his classes. He is a very interesting person and is very well-traveled. He knows what he is talking about.
Took as an online class. A lot of information thrown at you in power points with little direction. He knows his information and is not afraid to let you know his perspective on topics. Pay attention and study the material and you can easily get and A. Likes participation and compliments if you participate in discussions.
This professor just literally talks the whole lecture and he is so boring it's super difficult to retain any information he is talking about. He is arrogant and kind of rude to his students. I would strongly recommend not taking this class. You will learn nothing and feel like falling asleep in every class.
Everything is confusing. His lectures are SO heavy and he talks so much about each slide. His powerpoints are arranged weirdly and confusing, his study guides are nine pages long and plus he won't be in his office when you want to ask questions. He is a nice guy but a bad teacher. Show up to every class and participate or else you won't pass.
Its college people! Of course you have to study! This professor is amazing! He has been everywhere and knows so much!
This professor is incompetent. I took this class online and he makes it a lot harder than it needs to be purely because he doesnt make any sense and sucks at grammar. There are mistakes in every thing he says. You dont have to put a lot of work into the class. Just stressful because theres no direction.
There aren't enough characters to describe this awful educator. The instructions are vague, he sends emails shamming students for asking questions, he never posts things on time, and thats if he posts things at all. Constantly late on posting the lessons and never gives feedback on semester papers because he is "too busy" Avoid if at all possible.
Worst educator I've ever had. The class is lecture HEAVY & he barely knows how to teach it. He is very unprofessional - has said students' exams scores out loud to the class, & makes you feel ashamed if you ask a question. He talks way too much politics, and race. He's extremely unorganized and the content is based off his own opinions, or outdated
Dr. Cravins is an intresting professor to say the least. He can be very condesending and will label things as propaganda. He likes to present things as he sees them. He only only grades you on three exams, participation and attendance.
This professor lectured the whole time. No homework. Would ask questions and try to have group discussions before exams, but other than that he was the only person talking the entire class period. The exams were very difficult. Make sure to study hard before exams.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Was very unorganized, powerpoints were full of errors and inconsistencies, and the final exam wasn't even made accessible for students. Run for the hills
Dr. Cravins is clearly knowledgeable in his field, but he is VERY poor as an instructor. Expects you to memorize everything on his powerpoints, including 10+ year outdated statistics. He does give study guides and practice tests prior to exams, though. DO THEM--questions from them show up on the exam. I would avoid this professor if at all possible
I had to take this class for my major. He knows a lot about the subject, but he doesn't teach it well. His class consists of lectures, which are also online, but he takes attendance everyday. He also rambles a lot in class, but listen because it's usually important information. If you show up to class and study, you'll do fine.
Always willing to discuss classwork with you. Lots of information, but learned a great deal.
Ive never had a class that was unique as this. Dr. Cravins is the most interesting teacher Ive had. Its the first class Ive had that seems like real college - you have to think and do the work. Its not high school!!
Participate in class! It isn't difficult to get an A if you look over lecture notes and give some effort. However, if you don't do these things, you will absolutely not succeed in his classes. He is a very interesting person and is very well-traveled. He knows what he is talking about.
Does NOT know how to host an online class. Didn't provide a study guide when promised one until the last minute, then changed exam dates and messed with students schedules. Was extremely rude to me in emails. Slides were too content heavy.
I am in his Geography of Europe class online. I don't know what to comment about him, he's so terrible. Currently 3 weeks behind schedule on our online class. Exams aren't tough. Terrible Communication. Unorganized. Sucks at time management. Rude in emails. "Too busy" to help students outside class. Not in his office for his designated office hours
I have had the best experience with Dr. Cravins. If you perceive him as rude, you probably approached him with a chip on your shoulder to begin with! In upper level classes we have to be expected to be challenged - Dr. Cravins is one of the few on campus who treats as true academics!
This class is the most unorganized class I have ever taken. He gives very little time on exams with a significant amount of questions and nothing ever opens or closes on time. He has a habit of posting quizzes and not telling anyone so by the time you see it, it's already closed. He is responsive through email but is usually not extremely helpful.
You never get to see your overall grade until the very end so its easy to not really know how you're doing in the class. He is good at answering emails. Kind of boring. Two papers that have to be 5 pages and 3 exams.
Takes attendance, so make sure to show up. Lectures are CONTENT HEAVY and he rambles off a lot. Exams are super hard, with 50-65 questions and only 65 min to complete. Often tells us to ask questions but when we do he never answers the question and says to refer back to the notes (60+ slides). He also talks about people's grades in class. Big no-no
He gives very little time on exams, tells you to ask questions but then just tells you to look at the notes or that he talked about that in lecture. It is two weeks before thanksgiving and I have 2 grades in: the automatically graded MC questions on the online exam, and a 4 point automatically graded quiz. We've had 3 map quizzes and 2 exams.
Lectures were very heavy, and when approached about these issues he simply shrugged it off. Tests never reflected what was on the lectures, and test questions were very abstract and never made sense.
He knows his background. If you want to learn take this professor, but his study guide is like 10 pages long and his tests have nothing to do with it and are insanely hard.
He definitely knows what he's talking about. He has been everywhere. He expects you to remember everything, though. His lectures get really long and boring and his tests are pretty hard.
Dr. Cravins has been to a lot of places, but doesn't realize that you haven't. He expects you to know information that has no purpose to his class. He is extremely condescending to students, and won't work with you. His exams are so long and detailed that it is almost impossible to finish in the time limit! Lectures are good, but he's repetitive.
Insane reading load but whatever. Got alot out of his classes but you have to go ask questions in his office, lots of good convsersations there and that's where i relaly learn the stuff from him
So glad I took Prof. Cravin's class. Learned alot from him, and he was really willing to share all he know. Awesome experience.
Awesome teacher.. very interesting, and seems to actually care
Lots of test material comes from his lectures. Overall, he's great.
