Hard tests. Easy to cheat. If your TA stinks, you'll do bad
Her accent is hard to understand and she doesnt care if you understand her
go to her for help(extra points),will do well if had calc before, accent not bad
Tough class if you never took Calc before, but good dedicated teacher. TA's suck
HARD, expects u to kno Calc. Buy blue book. Easy to cheat on exams-huge room
Go to class, pay attention. Copy down examples she does in class(go on exam)
No extra credit when I was in. TA-Amit was very good. But she was a bad teach
bad english--- if never had calc before, good luck~~~ Shes a unique individua;
Very dedicated, clear, and intelligent. Pay attention and go to class
Gr8 class if you already had calc. no need to go-except for her jokes funny lady
Study class notes b/c she gives the test questions in class examples.
she called us dumb americans! terrible class. tricky. accent.
not a good prof, hard to understand, "do you follow me?"
take a week to understand her...you must study and know material!!!
I think she is great!!!
I love this lady, I want her to bear my children!
Good course, good teacher. Go to class, do homework, and you should be fine.
very nice, if uve never had calculus u prob wont do well, try to get a good ta
Somewhat hard to understand, she goes very fast, a good TA is key, do your h.w.
She is a good teacher, but can be hard at times.
worst teacher ever
Better take calc beforehand, nice lady, rough accent, common tests, goes fast
Will be a challenge if you never had calculus. Her book helps, tests difficult
Excellent. She is the best teacher I've ever had. Just go to class and listen.
Can not understand a word she is saying through her accent
very nice prof. wants students to do well in her class. tests from notes.
makes sure you understand, tests easy some q's from hw, very nice
Piece of cake if you
two words: STAY AWAY you can't understand a word she says
STUDY BLUE BOOK!
"is this clear to de class?"-go to TA and get a copy of old tests
Great professor, go to class
many tests ?'s come from blue book, homework, and notes
Huge accent, funny, good TA is key. do homework and dont fall asleep
had calc in high school, still had trouble, avoid!
good teacher, but boring lectures. go to class and do hw, and you'll be fine.
Class is so easy if you do the work and she's so nice...

get used to her accent, then isn't so bad - just speak up if don't understand
she has the worst accent, it's so hard to understand
accent is pretty cool once you get used to it, interesting, good teacher

Great teacher easy tests accent isnt too bad go to class and youll be fine
Good teacher. A real character.
Hope you took CALC in HS; EZ A if u did; shes annoying
Best professor to get for this class, easier if you took calc in high school!

Accent can be hard to understand. Easy if u had calc in HS. Good TA=good grade!!
Nice lady, very sweet, material extremely difficult if you haven't had calc
She's awesome, goofy, easy if you took calc in HS, good professor
good TA is key, helps a lot if you took calc in HS, fair tests
TA's quiz is your grade, Bad TA can make it tough! Tests EZ, worth nothing thoug
very nice lady, good class
very nice, wait till she says rectanglies!! shes funny
AWESOME; never took calc b4 got A; really knows what she's teaching; so nice
very caring..funny..and a wonderful person..class is semi easy
great teacher, difficult class, get the old tests you will do fine.
easy course, easy tests, quizzes can be tough if you have a bad TA
MUST have taken calc in HS, terribly difficult to understand
cant teach for ****! need ALL new calc teachers, must have taken calc in HS!!
very hard!! horrible explanations and even worse quizzes
VERY nice and funny, but hard to understand if 1st time w/calc. need good TA!
Cares about every student, went from a D- to B, reuses problems from test and HW
Cares about students
nice, funny, need to have calc before, moves fast, math dept sucks
must take calc before-accent hard to understand at times. funny too.
Sucky class...accent=difficult to understand her; makes the class 10 x harder.
HARD TO UNDERSTAND...ACCENT!! MUST TAKE CALC BEFORE!! EASY QUIZES, HARD TESTS!
You have to be stupid not to get an A. Quite possibly the easiest course at UD.
Isn't gr8 at answering questions. Do HW 2 nail quizzes.Go 2 class and u'll get A
Need calc in HS, hard test, extremely helpful, tutors, made sure i passed, nice
Terrible teacher, can't understand and extremely annoying.
VERY NICE! If you ask ?'s & pay attention class is easy!
Good teacher, and extremely fair. Do the homework, and you'll do fine..
She really cares about her students. She's an amazing teacher who is very willing to help. It's easier if you have taken calc before. Stronly recommend!!
If you TRY you will get a good grade, vry helpful! Don't goof off and you'll understand her accent!
Very nice teacher, and easy to understand once you get past the accent. Beware of TA's (Debasish is a moron with impossible quizzes) Her tests are impossible to fail (Multiple Choice)
just don't do it
Not Hard if you've had Calc in HS, I rarely even go to lectures. She can get annoying, but she is a nice lady and she cares about her students.
She is great, but beware the TA's. Quizes were impossible sometimes, but you'll be fine as long as you take them seriously and study! Go to lecture everyday, also test are easy but they can be deceiving. Study hard!

Pshhh, as far as calc is concerned this is easy as hell. anyone who complains about her should never pursue anything in math. Easy A. Comment about tests being decieving is valid though. I got screwed on a few easy questions since its multiple choice..
The accent worries you at first, but you get used to it quickly. Very good teacher. Go to lecture and ask questions. Interesting and not boring. Befriend the TA's, they can help during tests.
Her accent is very hard to understand. Her lectures are useful, go to class, pay attention, get involved, work hard and study for those little quizzes!! They almost count as much as your test grades do!!
Having taken calc in high school this course was a breeze. Go to the resitation w/ the TAs....everything they discuss is on the quizzes. However, BEWARE...Pyrros, contradicts test and workbook questions causing people to do poorly on their tests.
personally i believe this professor was helpful to my calculus education
Excellent Professor. One of the best professors at UD, really helps her student. If you keep up with the course work you will be fine. Really good pace.
Her accent is not a problem very clear. Don't take online, unless you will do the work. It's hard to keep up with. Fairly easy class. Seems like a nice woman
i cant understand her
It takes a week to get used to her accent, but once you get past that she really is a good teacher. She always makes sure to stop and ask everyone if they are clear on the material during class.
she is horrible at teaching i could never understand a word she is saying if u didn't take calc in high school good luck passing this class
Real nice lady, she makes me laugh, love the accent. a little hard to follow at first, but overall the class is pretty easy
Will help you if you ask, very good at explaining problems. I would not take this class if you didn't have calculus in high school, just because it moves very fast.
Can't really understand what she is saying but she has nothing to grade us on, doesn't know our names, so I don't see how i can't pass.
BEWARE of foreigner who can't speak in English teaching math to a giant lecture hall!
She is so un-understandable (if thats a word) its the only way to describe her. I had to drop the course because teaching calc. in Greek doesn't work. Retook the class and got an A. *not with her
Worst teacher ever! She is so difficult to understand. She never explains the material, she just expects you to know it. Her tests are really unfair. The reason I passed this course was because I had a great TA
I thought she was such a nice lady, every five minutes she asked us if we understood. Also set up study groups. Tests weren't too hard if you knew what you were doing. Have to have calc in high school and have to really study for this class
hard accent to understand, but cares about her students..get the Oh calculus book and lots of the same questions are on the tests!!! Not that bad of a class, but a lot of work
Hello...I'd like a D please
I didnt take calc in HS and I do fine in this class. It takes about a week to get over her accent. In acuality she is very nice, funny, and will give extra credit at the drop of a hat. Do your HW and participate and youll be set.
Once you get over her accent she is a great professor. She really wants you to fully understand the concepts. If you don't like participating in class, however, i don't reccomend taking one of her classes.
really nice teacher, once you get use to her accent you should be fine in class. Quzzies like every other week, pretty tough sometimes, hard tests tho
Calculus isn't the easiest subject, but pyrros helps as much as she can. She is always willing to stay after and help with any questions. Getting a good TA is a big part for this class too, they make the quizzes that are worth half your grade.
She doesn't matter... TA does!!! TA gives, makes tests and quizzes. Talk to your TA not Pyrros.
Gotta love the accent. If you had calc before, it's a breeze. Raise your hand, make an effort, and BOOM...extra credit like there's no tomorrow!
Good teacher, shes gotta cool accent. I took AP calc, but i find her quizzes easy...so far I have an A average. Go to the TA dicussions, they help a lot, i never do my homework, but the TA does them in class
I find calc easy b/c math is my big strength (I'm averaging an A-). Plus I like her accent, she has a wicked sense of humor and really knows what she's doing
TA makes the class. mine sucked couldent teach and never gave a hint to quiz content. Pyrros is helpfull but class is too big for her to give individual attention but TA makes quizes which are 1/2 grade. Buy the red book! q's in it=q's on tests!
having taken calc before i dont think she teaches the material as well as she could but its still not that bad...definately study the red book though, it saved me on the test
She is very unclear in what she wants from you. She has an accent which makes it very hard to understand her. Also never take her if you have never had pre-calc... you will just get lost
Such a nice, classy lady. Math 221 is a nasty course, but I can't think of a better professor to take it with. She can be unclear at times, but I had a great TA, and learned a lot from her. It is important to make sure that you have a good TA in this class!!
She trys hard to help you as much as possible, and gives lots of extra credit if you are not afraid to raise your hand. The TA is key,and I had a good one. Buy the red book because the exam questions are really tricky. If you go to class and have had calc before, you should be able to get a C.
i took calc before so i never really had to go to class. shes really nice and is fair. if you get a good TA you're set. she takes most of the questions for exams from "oh calculus" a book she wrote... buy it and do those tests and you're gonna do well
She's awesome.
Man.. This teacher suckec. But if you need to take Calc, take it with her. THe other teachers are worse.
Dr. Pyrros is simply great. She has a heart for students and really wants to see us all succeed in the difficult subject of calculus. She understands its not easy. I took this class online, which I would highly recommend. But any time I had to talk with her, Pyrros always conveyed sincere concern.
Pyrros is a really easy teacher if you know how to study for her tests...LIVE BY THE "OH CALCULUS" WORKBOOK. Its the only thing you need for the tests...every question is in there word for word, no numbers or answers changed. I got an A w/out doing hw or studying too hard.
completely horrible class. she puts you on the spot during lectures & shes very difficult to comprehend. she tests you from the "oh calculus" book, not from specific material covered in class. i failed every single exam, the only reason i passed the course was because the TAs made up the quizzes.
She was a pretty good teacher, I learned... Only way i learned was by doing the homework, she teaches basics, you have to do the assigned problems to get good grades on the quizes. The OH calculus book is nessecary to get a good grade on the tests
I did absolutely dreadful in this class, but it wasn't really her fault, I just never got it...word of advice...buy the red book asap. DONT fall behind, if you fall behind...she is uselss to try and right the ship. Make sure you stay on top of the work.
Oh Calculus! workbook IS thw course. Want to do good on the tests do the problems in the Oh Calculus book. Only Teaches teh basics and really goes no furthur. She's nice and helps you when you don't get things, but expect nothing more elaborate from her than just basic conceptutal ideas of Calculus.
(Kirkbride Implodes and crumbles since it looks like the Vet)...PYRRROOSSSS!!! (Pyrros: LETTT'S GOOOO!! [Like she says at the start of class]). Great teacher. Her red Oh Calculus! book is where her exams come from. I had calc before so I got an easy A.
If you have to take Calc, get her. You can't always understand her cause she has a thick accent. Go buy her Oh Calculus book, cause all her tests are taken STRAIGHT from that book. Each exam has 15 questions, and of those, 7 of them were from that book. I took calc in hs, so it wasn't too hard, but if you didn't, it might be more difficut.
I didn't even go to one class so how would i know. But the tests were really easy.
Easy class. Tells you exactly what she wants and what to study. Funny lady.
Very easy class. She is very straightforward about what she wants on tests and exams. Class on the otherhand is a waste of time, and pretty unstructured. You can just get notes off of someone else and not skip a beat. Easy A.
great prof, really interested in subject and students. easy class, but interesting too- doesnt require unnecessary memorization.
Great teacher with thick accent. Her "Oh Calculus!" book is a great aide for the class because all of her exams come straight from that book, word for word. I had Calc. before, so I got an easy A. Just come to class--she explains everything!
Is a funny, clear teacher who wants her students to succeed! Her tests are hard if you didn't look at the red o calculus book, but other than that she's a good teacher!
the class is probably the easiest math class i will take at the university of delaware. her TA, john, is the best TA i have. his help is what makes the class easier...
She teaches everything very well and the TA John was alot of help as well. If you don't have the red book Oh Calculus! you come out with probably a C, failing tests and getting 100 on quizzes.
PRAY U GET JOHN COWGILL AS UR TA..if you dont this class might be hard. WIth john and the OH Calculus book this class is an easy A. Its also good if you had Calculus in High School, I know some people who didnt...if you didnt it might be pretty tought but Pyros is ur best bet.
I thought this was a really hard class. The tests are nothing like the quizzes and the Oh Calculus book helped, but I still failed both tests. The quizzes were challenging, but at least they were taken from hw problems.I had Calculus in highschool too.Participate in class bc she gives extra credit a lot which is heavily weighted. John is the best TA.
If you have never taken calculus, GOOD LUCK!! she teaches the class as if EVERYONE has already taken calc, which she reminded us of everyday. She goes off on rambling tangents sometimes. Quizes made by TA arent too bad, but her test are HARD. Shes not a bad teacher tho. I would take her again.
Nice lady with a funny Athenian accent, but she expects everyone to already know some calculus. Sometiems goes off on random topics that don't seem to pertain much to the subject. The quizzes are straightforward and made by the TAs. The tests are impossible and try to trick the student into messing up instead of testing knowledge
I didn't have calc in High School but I didn't find this class incredibly hard. She is nice and understandable but you have to stick with her when she goes off on a tangent. A good TA, doing the hw, participating, and going over notes/problems are key to an A.
Pyrros is a good teacher.
Pyrros is an EXCELLENT calculus professor. She explains difficult concepts in simple terms so that students can understand. When you put the time and effort into the course, there is no way that you can't succeed. She does an outstanding job. It's all up to the student to do his/her part.
BEST CALC PROFESSOR! always willing to help and gives lots of extra credit. study the practice tests bc most of the test questions come from them. if ur confused in the class she will find you a tutor. i wouldnt take calc with anyone else even if it means getting up at 8am. go to class and do the practice tests and its an easy A.
She is a great teacher. She is always willing to help. I highly recommend doing the homework assignments on the syllabus because it prepares you for the quizzes. Also going to discussion and doing the red book practice is to your benefit.
professor pyrros is maybe the best teacher i ever took in 4 years of college. not only is she the cutest thing in the world and i wanted to take her home to put her on a shelf and wind her up and listen to her all day WHAAATTDDAA YA MEAN U DUNNOO?! ITSZZA INAAAA DAA BOOOK!! she helps you alot and your grade is up to the TA so make him ur best frie
Shes so funny! She is pretty clear but if you havent had calc before it may be tough to keep up...but she tries to teach to people who havent had calc. Lots of extra credit and east tests...get a good TA
She is an awesome teacher!! The class is really easy and she is always giving out extra credit! Plu she has easy exams that are similar to the ones she posts in her Oh Calculus book. She is always willing to help and go over any problems. It is an easy A if yo study practice exams. I didn't even attend half of the lectures and it was fine.
She is a really nice lady.. kinda funny too. Her accent is cute. If you just try & raise your hand, you will receive extra credit. She really tries to help & teach you to understand calculus. Her tests are multiple choice & kinda hard. I mainly did well b/c of the TAs quizzes every 2 weeks.
This is by no means an easy A unless you have taken calc before. Go to class and participate, even if you don't know the answers. Study the red book and go to TA for help. Overall one of the best in the Math dept
I do not like calc, but I love this lady. She is such a good teacher and a very fair grader. If you participate in class she gives extra credit, and she walks you through it if you dont know what you are doing. take Pyrros over any other teacher, shes the best in the math department
She was a cool teacher. Do the problems in the reda buka. I took calc in high school and got an a- in this class. I also received the most extra credit in the history of that class. i beasted it up. but i guess i didnt do good enough on my actualy work and thats y i didnt get an a. but shes probably the best teacher you can get for this class
Take her! Easy if you do the work. Do homework probs for quizzes, do workbook practice tests for tests. Many problems come directly from those sources. Use the math lab. Participate and you get extra credit even if you are wrong.
Besides the fact that her accent and her sense of humor maade her class fun to be in, she is a great professor who knows her stuff. My advice take her because she is the main person who makes up the tests...she wrote the book we all use. The red workbook is all you need to study when taking tests.
she's great and funny. the class was a bit hard, and i swear i failed a majority of the quizzes, but i got a B- because of the easy final, exams, and extra credit! quizzes are hard. lots of extra credit if you participate, and TA's will clear up what you don't understand. take her!
Listen, calc stinks and I think Pyrros realizes that too, but she's very interested in it. Her class is hard and she's the first to admit it. She moves fast so keep up. TA's are generally solid and it's easy to makeup quizzes so you know the questions. First exam, so-so, Second impossible, Final is EASY. Definitely the least painful calc teacher
Pyrros is one of the funniest people alive. She's an amazing calculus teacher, I never took calculus in high school, and came out of honors pre-calculus, which was a joke, but still felt like I could learn everything, and she definitly explained the material well enough, and allowed questions during periods in her lecture. If you take calc, get her
i hated math and calculus in particular in high school. she finally made me understand what i had gone a whole year not understanding. her tests and quizzes were hard but if u understood the material ur golden. she gives a ton of extra credit just for participating even for wrong answers. and shes hilarious. her accents not a problem either.
I took AP calc in high school but opted to retake calc one anyway. As a result, I found the course to be very easy. However, even without prior knowledge of the material, I think Pyrros would have be an excellent teacher. Plus she gives out bonus points like candy :)
She is a really nice friendly lady! she gives out extra credit like crazy during class, even if you get called on and you give a total dumb answer shes like "alright, 5 points for YOUU!" I had calc in highschool so i found it really easy, you realy need to pay attention and go to class to do well tho, overall quizes straight from book
She uses real life examples to help students understand applied calc better.
Dont really have to go to class, you do miss out on extra credit though. Most exam questions from red book she made and quiz questions from textbook. no homework.
great professor. i had AP calc in highschool and i did not find this class hard at all. but even without prior calc knowledge pyrros makes calc more understandable. DO THE RED BOOK EXAMS most of the test questions come from those and if they are not directly from the red book they are very similar. answer questions in class = xtra credit!
not to bad for those who have had calc already. test come from the orange workbook, so if u do them u have a good idea of what is to come. homework only if u want to do it, although u should or you'll be lost. Discussion is very helpful if your confused. if u go to class and answer question u get extra credit!
Great lady, lots of extra credit opportunities. cares about the students.
Pyrros is a sweet woman. She loves her students and really wants them to do well. She gives mad extra credit for class participation. If you use the supplementary book she recommends there is no reason to ever fail this class. Her exams are tricky, but not impossible.
She is such a funny lady! Go to class because she gives extra credit every day even if you get it wrong. If you have taken calc before this should be easy. Do well on the quizzes and buy Pyrros's red book. Her exams are veryyyy similar!
she is the sweetest teacher ever! she sincerely wants you to do well and gives out a lot of extra credit. she'll drop your lowest quiz grade and uses lots of examples from class on her tests.
Pyrros was the best math teacher I've ever had. She sincerely wants you to do well and will do whatever possible to help you. She goes over everything many times to make sure the class understands. She's helpful and loves when you ask questions and will reward you with some nice extra credit. She's also pretty funny. I love her!
Great teacher. Gives TONS of extra credit every day which can bring you up a letter grade. quizes are short and midterm and final are both multiple choice. No required HW. Easy if youve taken Calc in high school, covers pretty basic stuff. Study the night before the test, skip a few days, and you'll do great in this class haha
Pyrros is the worst math teacher I have had in quite some time. All of the reviews saying that she is great are misleading. Yes, she knows her facts about calculus but she really doesn't teach them. The class is terrible because half is taught by her and the other half is by a T.A. who doesn't speak ANY english. Plus there are no review sessions!
Horrible teacher, she knows Calculus, but she doesn't teach it. I got an A in high school no problem, but I'm struggling to get a C. You cannot understand a word she says, goes over basic ideas in class, but uses the most complex ones on the exams, she is rude to her students, and if you do not understand calculus she will not help. AVOID!!!!
horrible teacher, she gives extra credit but it amounts to basically nothing in the end. dicusses the most basic topics but test u on the most comlex ones. Quizes are impossible and test are almost as hard. Do not take her.
CALC isn't easy if you don't study. Quizzes are not Multiple choice but partial credit made it easier then the tests which were Multiple Choice. You will only do good in this course if you go to the discussions and really make the TA help you.
Calculus I should not be hard but this course is very difficult. I learned most of the materials when I was in high school but it didn't apply to this course at all. You must be extremely familiar with every details she teaches. Her exam problems are very tricky.Do not think that you got As on the quizzes mean you will got As on her exams too. It is impossible.
Hard class. She teaches ok, but the exam questions are nothing like the material she's teaching. Quizzes aren't bad, usually the TA will give you a good idea of what to expect. Hopefully you have a good TA. Regardless, I got a C with little to no effort and with no previous calc experience. Lot of extra credit in this class, take advantage of it.
Hardest class I have even taken. Quizzes and Exams are next to impossible. I wasted so much of my free time on this class. If you haven't taken Calc in high school, don't take it with her. She is very nice and gives out 20 points of extra credit though. I was always excellent in Math but struggled to get a C in this class.
A kind woman and a good teacher. Recommended.
Pyrros was great. Really enthusiastic in class, and funny sometimes if you pay attention. There were SO many opportunities for extra credit, and usually all you had to do was raise your hand. She really wants every student to succeed- accent might be hard to understand for some but not bad. I definitely recommend taking a class with her!
The key to the class is limiting the damage on the second exam. You will do the worst on the second exam out of the three exams. The final is very easy, I had a 26/30 and the quizzes and first exam are middle of the road in terms of difficulty. Just study your red book and you will be fine, and do your homework too.
Georgia Pyrros was probably one of the most wonderful professors that I have ever had. She's kind, extremely helpful, and a burst of enthusiasm. Anyone who gave her a bad rating is just a novice in the realm of mathematics. And there you you go. :)
Just wasn't helpful at all. I had already taken AP Calc with a renowned high school teacher, but felt lost in her class
Calc is a very hard subject but she makes it clear and tells you what you will need it for so you dont feel like your wasting your time. She is funny and cares about you doing well. Tests are hard but you can make up for them with quizzes. Talk to her and if she knows you care you will do fine in the class.
Prof. Pyrros is really sweet and she really cares about her students. I had never had Calculus before and at first, her class was really hard for me. But if you go to class, pay attention, and do the homework, you should be fine. Definitely use the orange book!
People say shes a hard teacher... truth is the material is pretty tough... she gets through the material pretty well... and if she doesn't get through it the TA will during discussion (GO TO THE DISCUSSIONS HELPS A LOT!) not impossible to get an A just study in a timely fashion and you should be good
If you are not afraid to answer question aloud in a large lecture hall this class may be for you. A good amount of extra credit is given to those who participate vocally.
She is really a good professor. The lecture is clear and the quizes are easy if you go to DISCUSSION(really helpful). She gives a lot extra credits when you answer questions in her lecture.Do orange book before each exam since the test is similar.
Honestly, I really didn't like her at first, but now I ADORE this woman! She's so sweet and really wants her students to do well. She's eager to give lots of extra credit... so participate! Even if you answer wrong, she'll give you credit. GO TO DISCUSSIONS AND USE YOUR ORANGE BOOK! Doing all of the homework isn't really necessary
The material isn't that hard, but going to TA recitations are very helpful. Tests consist of memorizing her red book problems, but you'll learn/understand the material from the quizzes the TA's give out. She's very sweet with a cute Athenian accent, though.
She is very hard to understand and you have to pay attention to how she teaches each topic. Different than AP calc form high school. Sitting closer to the front helps. She loves to give out extra credit so get involved with the lecture. The orange book is stupid. Pay very good attention to TA sessions, he makes the quizes!!!!!!
This class was pretty straight forward. All exam questions were based off homework, orange book, or problems in class. She loves extra credit, its very easy to get an extra 5 points. Go to discussion, the TA makes the quizzes and will go over what to practice. Her accent is not that hard to understand, easy to succeed if you like math and do work.
seems like she might be a hard ass in the very beginning but is the sweetest lady. always willing to help and always looking out for her students. really wants you to not only succeed but find usefulness and interest in the class. basically gives away 20 pts of extra credit: DO NOT TAKE THAT FOR GRANTED. her orange work book is great prep for tests
Professor Pyrros takes some getting used to. If you have to take calc, don't get discouraged in the beginning when she's mean and kind of a hard ass. She gets easier and funnier and more enjoyable as the semester goes on. Make sure you go to discussion because that helps for quizzes. The orange book REALLY HELPS. And you get 20 extra credit points!
Her accent takes some time to get used to, but she's clear, straight forward and kind. The TA's help you w/their quizzes and the test questions come from her book she wrote. This is a large intro class, so she was good for it!
If you haven't had Calculus previously, this class can be challenging. If you find yourself struggling, you need to seek help immediately, it only gets worse. Plenty of extra credit, have fun.
take her if you hate your life. She doesnt speak english and is offended if you dont understand something. DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS. she makes you feel dumb. quizzes are worth 15 points less than exams and the TA'S make the quizzes. Some ta's are MUCH MUCH harder than others so class is completely unfair. TRY YOUR HARDEST TO GET A DIFFERENT TEACHER!!
Taking calculus before, this class challenged me a bit. But she is very nice and looks out for her students and encourages participation. TA's make the quizzes, which are harder than the tests. Go to class and the review session and the class is easy.
I've taken calc before, and this class was challenging to begin with. I never really went to class. I never did homework. I didn't study for the final. Somehow I got a B. Just make sure you're familiar with the material, do the extra credit. And dont be as lazy as me, and you should get a B like me.
The class is somewhat hard because she thinks that everyone taking the course has taken calc before. The tests are not hard if you study (they're multiple choice), but the quizzes (made by the T.As) are really hard and hurt, not help your grade. Pyrros is a great teacher and funny, but the teaching assistants are terrible! Find a good study group.
She is a really good professor but the class itself is hard. Exams are multiple choice and are not too hard but quizzes are hard, and can really hurt your grade. If you start falling behind, get help immediately. She is very helpful and straightforward.
Although Pyrros might not be the best teacher, she is honestly the sweetest woman. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. If you have never taken calc before taking this class, it is definitely going to be a struggle. Just buy her yellow book and do all of the homework (for practice) and you should be fine!
Difficult class if you never had calculus before. She has an accent but it isn't terrible and she explains the material very well. Tries to crack dumb jokes sometimes. The TA is what kills your grade since they make the quizzes. Her exams are easy enough if you study her yellow book with practice exams since they are similar. Buy the yellow book!
you cant understand her accent. but she gives no homework grades and she sometimes will give extra credits and curves. you dont really have to go to class either if you understand it cause all she does is nothing. she doesnt understand your questions either because she cant comprehend english. she aiiight
Good teacher and is really funny but her TA's maker her class hard. her tests are easy but u need to study everything she taught at least once. the quizzes can be impossible sometimes but her ta;s make the quizzes. i hated calc in high school and this class didnt change it. if u can take a different teacher
Its a bought class... but any calc is going to be difficult if you don't understand math well. she does a great job of going over examples you just have to pay attention and if you don't get it ask or look it up.. no attendance no hw.. its basically up to you and exams are right out of her yellow book and quizs are right out of the textbook.
not bad if youve had calc before, otherwise would be hard. gotta ask questions if you have them cause she'll go fast. shes good though. very nice
Pyrros is the greatest. She is so nice, smart, funny, and helpful. BUT if you didn't have calculus before, good friggin' luck. The class is definitely unfair if you are unlucky enough to get a hard TA because they make all of the quizzes. If you ask a specific question, she repeats the whole problem because she can't understand students very well.
go to class, do review problems, you should be fine, not too hard
Pyrros is a nice professor. She wants everyone to do well. The TA's make the quizzes(they were harder than prof's exams!) and since I had Calc before, it was fairly easy. Buy her workbook because she goes over a lot of the exam problems in class and a lot of them were on the final.
Pretty good class, people don't seem to do well on average, especially if they don't have a background with calc. She's a good teacher, but you should definitely go to discussions because the TA will pretty much tell you what's on the quizzes.
Very good professor for calc. Goes over stuff and writes most of the steps out and is more than willing to go back and do stuff over again for people who dont understand. Highly recommended.
kind of a strong accent but you get used to it. discussion attendance required but the TA just confused me. took calc in high school so I didn't find it difficult but think that even if I didn't take it before that I would understand. doesn't give extra credit or curve like some of the other calc professors which is annoying but still did well.
Her exams aren't hard. They are 15 questions & worth 75 points. There are 2 exams and I only got one question wrong on the first one (I have taken calc before) BUY THE YELLOW BOOK!! What's impossible are the quizzes the TAs make. Those are 60 points and there are 6. You can drop the lowest one though. PARTICIPATE she gives extra credit
Attendance isn't mandatory to lectures, but it really helps to go to class. She makes sure everyone is engaged and understands the material she's covering. Lowest quiz score is dropped, the TAs make those. Two exams and a final, the yellow book really helps you with those because the questions are basically the same. Optional homework.
If you have never taken calc before, GOOD LUCK! Her accent is sometimes hard to bear, the only grades are the tests and quizzes which makes it tougher to pass. She'll call you out and embarrass you in front of the large class. She isn't mean but not a good teacher. She told our class how her exam averages are usually 50% (yeah, 50!). AVOID HER!!!!!
all of the test questions come straight out of the optional yellow text book. i've never used the required text book. it's really hard to figure out what she's talking about sometimes but she gives extra credit and is always willing to help if you can decode what she is saying.
Most of the exam questions come straight out of the yellow book. The quizzes can get tricky though - you really need to know your stuff if you want to get a decent grade on them. Attendance is pointless - I did fine and I never went back again after the first week. This class might seem overwhelming to some people but its really not so hard.
Teaches as if you have learned Calc before. Get the yellow book! She gives extra credit, but if you don't try the class won't be easy.
In the beginning she is hard to understand. She teaches as if you learned calc previously to taking her class. Quizzes are made my the TAs so pay attention in discussion. Tests are taken DIRECTLY from the optional workbook. so BUY the workbook. I studied before every test and for most quizzes (6). She drops your lowest test score.
She's so cute and funny and gives extra credit out like candy. Study for the exams and quizzes and you'll be fine!
Pyrros is not an easy professor. The material is very tough to comprehend and she doesn't make it any easier. If you haven't taken a calculus class before this one you will be lost beyond belief. Do the homework and study a lot. Don't take Pyrros if you want an easy teacher.
Pyrros is a great teacher, she really tries to make sure that every student understands the material that she is teaching. She is a little hard to understand at times because of her thick accent but your TA will be able to clarify any questions you may have. She also offers ten points extra credit just for participating in class! Highly recommend
shes a nice proffesor but this is a hard class, even if you took calc in HS. She tries her best, but some TA's are horrible while some are good. If you study hard she will def help you get a good grade
I took calc in high school and still needed to pay attention in this class. It's more of how Pyrros teaches, she does it in a difficult way thats unnecessary. The TA is more helpful actually. I only used the text book to study for quizzes, which are every other Friday. She gives out extra credit in class too.
I loved Pyrros! She actually takes out the time so that you get the material. If you didn't have Calculus before then the class will be hard. The quizzes make the class hard, but they really do prepare you for the exams. Barely used the textbook, and make sure you get the workbook! Majority of the test question are straight from the workbook.
i loved pyrros. she was very helpful and makes sure you understand the material before she moves on. if you didnt have calc before it could be difficult. get the yellow workbook-almost all exam questions come from it.
I have never been good at math, so I eventually had to change this class to an audit so it wouldn't kill my GPA. Regardless... she wants to help EVERY student. She was so understanding when i talked to her about my bad grade and she RAISED my confidence even after failing exams. She's AWESOME if you just get to know her. She loves effort!
Shes a real nice lady and definitely wants her students to do well. Her accent is really thick though and most of the time its hard to understand her. The class isn't too hard if you keep up in it and do the homework
Pyrros is a great professor! I went into this class with no calculus background and that made it extremely difficult, but she genuinely wants you to succeed. Make sure you speak up in class a few times to get the 10 points extra credit. If you want to pass, buy the optional yellow workbook! She often uses questions directly from it on her exams!
Went into this class with no calculus background and still managed to get a B. The class is not easy, specifically the quizzes, but go to discussion for quizzes and yellow workbook for exams and you should be good. Really wants her class to see the usefulness of calculus and not just look at it as a formula or rule. Highly recommend!
Highly recommended especially if you like understanding why things work the way they do. Accent isn't too bad and she wants you to really understand the concepts. There's extra credit and exams are fair. Quizzes made by TA and mine was not good (didn't speak much English) but go to math prep center or her office hours for help. Do textbook probs.
Definitely recommend this professor. She has two midterms, six quizzes, and a final. Not a very challenging class, but going to class is definitely a necessity. It can be a little hard to understand her at first because of her accent, but you get used to it after a while. Textbook and workbook are rarely used.
The quizzes are harder than the tests. She takes most of the test questions directly from the yellowbook. The quizzes are made by the TA's so go to the discussion sections to get an idea of what they will put on it. If you have never taken calc before the class will be difficult otherwise you should be fine. She also gives 10 extra credit points.
This class was a lot harder than it should have been. She is extremely hard to understand and does not really answer questions. The TAs and her do not communicate so the quizzes will have things never covered in class and you will have no idea. I definitely recommend taking another professor for this class.
I LOVED Dr. Pyrros. I was aiming for an A in the class and it was definitely attainable, unfortunately I did poorly on the last few quizzes and got a 40% on the final (even though I studied) so I ended up with a C+. My advice would be to go to class every single day AND discussion, DON'T buy the book, and do all the Web Assign problems.
I've never taken calculus before, and this was probably my hardest class. The material is really hard, especially the quizzes. Pyrros is a really nice lady and will help you out with your grades. She gives out basically free extra credit if you answer a question during class. I recommend not taking her if you've never had calc before. very hard.
This is probably the hardest course that I have ever taken. I had taken precalculus in high school, but I still didn't understand this class. The quizzes are IMPOSSIBLE, and the tests are fairly challenging. If you see signs of failing, go to your TA or Pyrros...otherwise, drop it if you can. This is not an easy A, even if you work hard.
Pyrros is one of the worst professors I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. She does not speak English and she is on two different worlds in class and on the test… AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Her English is not good AT ALL, she puts material on the exams which were not covered in class, and she seems to have a distaste for the textbook she MADE us buy for the class. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS.
Pyrros does not speak English and does not understand AT ALL when someone asks her a question in class. The class has even had to correct her numerous times during the lesson on mistakes she made on her own example. The quizzes are graded harshly and the exams are completely different than anything we learned in class. She gives out 10 points EC.
The exams are difficult because they're multiple choice and way different than the practice exams she gives or the examples she does in class. Extremely sweet woman and gives 10 pts extra credit, but overall a difficult class. We had extremely low averages on every exam and she waits until the end to curve so its very stressful
Professor Pyrros is a really nice woman. She has a funny sense of humor and doesn't make class such a bore. However, if you have no calculus background prior to the class, you will struggle. Theres not much that Pyrros can do to help so students have to seek help on their own in study groups or with tutors.
Accent is a major factor throughout semester, class lectures are of little help because she zooms through random problems that do not appear on exams. Discussion is useful, relates to the quizzes, but the exams are theoretical and very different from what you would expect. Test and quiz questions seem to be tricky on purpose so good luck.
If you have any calc background, class attendance is not at all necessary. I got an A- and i went to class maybe 6 times aside from quizzes/tests all semester. She is very difficult to understand and doesn't really go into much detail in class. If you took a decent calc class in high school, you will not learn one new thing all semester.
Pyrros is a decent teacher however the class is pointless. You need to learn the material on your own as the class feels more like a review session than an actual math course. Welcome to college
Took calc in high school and got straight As, completely understood it. Come here to college and fail miserably even studying a ton. Her accent is so strong you can't understand what she says & the quizzes are ridiculously hard, as are the tests. I loved calc in high school and now I hate it.
Pyrros is a cute little woman who knows what she's talking about. Some students say her accent gets in the way, but that's an excuse. If you pay attention in class and do the practice exams in the yellow book, exams are easy. To pass quizzes, pay attention to your TA and the way they solve problems because you have to match them for a good grade.
Nice lady, but unpredictable. She tells you not to drop then asks why you didn't earlier. She tries to help by extra credit but it only goes so far. Tests are very difficult- you can understand the concept and do problems in the book and still fail this class- all conceptual material and very rarely is partial credit awarded on quizzes. AVOID
AWFUL!! Material is so hard and she is terrible at teaching. I do not recommend.
I wont lie, this course is extremely difficult! On top of the course material being hard, her accent makes it difficult to understand what she is saying half of the time. With that being said, she really does care about her students and wants everyone to pass. I wish I would have tried earlier the semester, but I will pass
I received my first C EVER in this class and cried. I LOVE Calculus and had an AP Calc background (& got an A), but the grading screwed up. Overall, good at teaching, but difficult quizzes. I suggest COMING to class. I had an 130 people lecture and only 50 people came everyday. I would recommend this class ONLY if you are an excellent test taker
This class was supper hard. Avoid at all costs.
Pyrros is so sweet! She is a bit hard to understand, but she's passionate about her students' success. I took AP Calc in high school so I had some background which helped. There's a quiz every two weeks and three exams which are difficult. You don't need to buy the textbook but there is a practice book she wrote with exact test questions in it!
TERRIBLE TEACHER DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! cute old lady, but there is a language barrier - her accent isn't the problem, she just can't explain things in simple and clear english terms. Her lesson plans are hard to follow and she jumps around a lot, often she doesn't finish solving one problem before she is on to the next. DROP CLASS!!!!
Terrible professor. Often times got angry when student's would not understand lecture material and would not answer questions in class. When trying to contact her for help, I never received a response. Overall one of the worst professors at the university
dr. pyrros makes me dread calculus - a subject i actually enjoyed in high school. she pretends that she knows how to teach, but doesn't do it effectively. if you want to hear that the derivative equals slope every class period, definitely go to class. but if you understand calc, you will definitely get annoyed with pyrros.
Professor Pyrros is the sweetest woman. She wants her students to do nothing but succeed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to see her during her office hours and bringing prior quizes/tests *hint hint* if you work out problems with her she will throw you some extra credit.
Professor Pyrros has been one of the worst professors I have taken a class with at UD. She made me not want to go to class everyday. It was torture being in there because she goes over easy problems and says herself they wont be on the quiz but the quizzes have questions that are way tougher. She also threatened to press charges for talking
I came into the class expecting Dr. Pyrros to be the worst teacher because of these reviews. She so is not! She is a very sweet lady that in the end just wants her students to succeed,I loved her class, and cut her some slack because she is teaching a very difficult time sensitive course. If you study and put time into the course there is no excuse
Georgia Pyrros is the one of the most dedicated professors I have ever had at UD. She may come off as callus, but once you get to know her (and how she teaches) You will love it. GO to her office hours, once she establishes a personal contact with you, things will become much easier. Use the yellow book only, don't even buy the other text.
Dr. Pyrros is a nice professor who has a good sense of humor and tried to keep the class light. Her exams are multiple choice which is awful for a math course but many of the questions are directly from the yellow workbook. The TA quizzes are from discussion so it is well worth your time to attend. Not the easiest class, put in the time.
Smart lady, tries to make the best out of her unfortunate accent but fails in doing so. Doesn't really leave time in class for questions and assumes students know a certain amount of math that some (like myself) may not know. Only take this prof if you are proficient in calc and don't need a lot of help
So hard. If you don't know calculus don't take this. I died. I could never follow her, the quizzes were hard but the tests were impossible because it was only MC so no partial credit. My TA also sucked. She's hard to understand and did not curve the class even though we all tanked the 2nd exam. Nice lady, terrible teacher.
This class was not hard. I got a 40 on the first exam and got a B. If you dont go to class and don' t put in effort (like doing book problems) then I'm sure you didn' t do well. Here is the key to an A: do book problems to study for the quizzes, go to class, USE HER YELLOW BOOK (it's almost the same as the exam so know how to do all the problems)
It's an experimental class so I expected there to be some kinks, however, this class was ridiculous. I've taken precalc and calc but this class was extremely difficult and hard to follow. There was a quiz every Thursday and the quizzes and exams were very confusing. In lecture, she would give examples that were nowhere as difficult as the exams.
Pyrros is a fantastic professor and is your best bet for getting an A in Calc. She is always very helpful during office hours and will even give you some advice about your future while you are there. I never had taken Calc before and I was very scared, but it will be okay if you go to lecture and USE HER YELLOW BOOK!
I loved being in this class. The material wasn't always easy, but having quizzes every week was actually helpful in the long run because it forced you to stay on top of things. The questions were sometimes more difficult than expected, but it was always very clear what was going to be on quizzes.
Nice professor. Easy class. You even don't need go to class. Just remember the date for each quiz and test, then be there get your A. That's what I was doing. If you hope to know the exam questions before the exam, review your yellow book. Again, easy A, good prof.
Let me start off by saying that I have never taken Calc before so I was nervous going into this class. Professor Pyrros was so helpful during her office hours and helped me with old exam problems and things I did not understand in lecture. ONLY BUY THE YELLOW BOOK, DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY. Go to lecture and use the yellow book
It was a experimental class so I was expecting some little problems. However, this class had every problem possible. First of all, the quizzes given by the TA and exams given by Pyrros were on different pages and had no correlation to each other. Then your final grade is 100% off of your test and quizzes and not other buffers. Avoid at all costs.
Although she make come off harsh, Pyrros is hilarious. However, she is not a very good teacher. If you took AP calc in high school you will be able to get by with out attending lectures. There is attendance at discussion. The difficulty of the quizzes are dependent on your TA. The exams are all multiple choice. She gives 10 points extra credit.
3 Tests (all multiple choice) and 10 extra credit points. Go to lecture and use her yellow book and you'll be fine. Don't buy the textbook even she says you don't need it. She is very helpful so don't be intimidated by her because she's really sweet and helpful!
The class itself is a tough one. She does her best to make it simple, but its still very confusing at times. She moves too quickly and expects you to know it already. Definitely use the yellow book to study for tests and the final.
Was an overall great professor but this was because I took Calculus in High School. Got an A putting in minimal work besides attending all lectures. Never did one homework problem but did well in the class by reviewing all of the examples she did in class. Not a warm and fuzzy professor but it wasn't horrible.
Pyrros is such a cute, funny old lady, but a lot of times she has trouble understanding what her students are stuck on. She has a bit of an accent but she isn't hard to understand & is all about giving out extra credit. She isn't always clear in her teaching, but its math so you can just look up how to do it in the text book or online
She is the best 221 professor out of the others but still horrible. Does not respond to emails or negotiate grades. Give 10pts extra credit and that's it. Only does the easy problems in class. The TA was horrible.
If you have experience with Calc, you might be fine taking this class. But if you haven't, I would avoid taking Calc at this school in general. If you have the option to take it at your local community college then do it because you basically have to teach yourself the material. Pyrros is a nice woman and is intelligent, but not a great professor
Really hard to understand but discussion really helped clarify the material. Attendance not mandatory at all. Pretty easy class except the final was impossible
If you go to UD don't even bother taking Calc. Pyrros means well but jumps around and is not on the same page as the TA's at all. What she tells you to study in the book she assigns has little correlation to what is given on the quiz's. I regret taking her class.
Don't ever take her
The material generally is not to difficult but Pyrros is virtually useless. The way the class is constructed the TA did all of the work and explaining. During lectures Pyrros would just write random problems on the projection and solve them without any explanation. She is a very nice lady but her accent also is very hard to understand
you do not need to go to class at all bec u can not learn anything from her class, go read book and do the yellow book. she is a good person with a terrible teaching skill.
MATH221 is one of, if not, the most failed class at the University. However, Pyrros will probably be your best bet. The class is extremely difficult and you will have to learn a lot of it on your own. My advice: GET TO KNOW HER. Constantly meet with her and she will give you extra pts. She truly cares about her students!
No homework and attendance isn't mandatory. She does an ok job at teaching the material but the tests have a bunch of weird application material that she never covers. You have to be good at math or have a previous calc background to do well in this class. She takes up time ranting about the american education system and she's hard to understand.
If you put in the time and effort to really learn the material then you will have no trouble passing. The lessons can be challenging (she has a very strong accent) but the TAs are extremely helpful. Go to them if you get points off for a question and they will most likely give you back credit. She can be understanding if she sees you in class often
literally the sweetest lady, but she's a terrible teacher. All of class is just spent doing problems out of the work book, that she wrote, and she doesn't explain stuff well.
She really cares about her students, and will try her hardest to help you understand. She really struggles at introducing topics, but will always be willing to explain and help you. She really appreciates effort, and offers extra credit just for going to her office hours. Accent can be tough at first, but could be worse.
Wouldn't highly recommend her but out of the UD math professors, she's the best. She writes the exams and wrote the workbook so having her as your professor is to your advantage. You get used to how she lectures and have to put in a lot of work on your own but PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING SHE DOES IN EXAMPLE PROBS and you'll do fine on tests.
If you are a senior, Take the online Section!!!!! the Lectures are 75min and from 2004 but it makes life so much easier. She does not really communicate with the online section so getting info on grading and tutoring sessions is a little annoying. 3 Exams (15 questions each) taken at the resource center, no discussions, no annoying freshmen
She was very inconsiderate to religious absences for exams and does not give make ups under any circumstance. Does not always answer questions when asked. Very hard to follow in lecture.
Taking Calculus at this school sucks regardless. Go to lectures if they help you. I was confused by her lectures, but I did the book work, went to discussions and group tutoring before quizzes and exams and pulled out a B. get the Oh Calculus book and do the practice exams in the back. saved me in the end.
UD's math department is absolutely awful. Pyrros is a nice lady, but says herself she doesn't care who gets an A or who fails her class. She wasn't really clear in lectures, and in my case, my discussion TA was even worse. I actually audited the class after the first exam because I got a terrible grade, and I'm taking it again next semester.
Pyrros is a funny old woman, she will make you laugh. However, she has trouble understanding students questions and often goes way too quickly in class for students to understand. If I did not take calculus in high school, I would not have done as well as I did.
Really disappointing how many people disrespect Pyrros. She's not perfect but definitely one of your best options in the math department. Math221 quizzes are from the textbook, exams are from the green book. I would say get both. Go to office hours, they help, I had a D at mid-term, and pulled off an A-, so it's really possible to do well.
Pyrros is one of the better math professors. She has mixed reviews, but overall I think she was fine. Best if you took Calculus before, really. Buy the "Oh Calculus" book! Very similar to her exams, and questions are reused from it. Quizzes depends on TA. Go to her office hours and participate for some extra credit.
She's definitely the best teacher in the math department at UD for MATH221 so 100% take her. It's definitely helpful if you took calculus before. She's a little hard to understand but if you pay attention and have background knowledge it's not bad at all. Buy the green book-- it's VERY helpful for exams + quiz questions come from the textbook!
Pyrros is a great professor. Many people struggled, but if you go to lecture, you'll do fine. One thing I wish I would've realized in the beginning of the semester is that the quizzes are based purely on the homework from the textbook (practice those problems, it really helps!!!) Definitely can get an A if you work hard
Pyrros knows what she is talking about, and if you pay attention in lecture, the class is not bad. The quizzes come from the optional homework problems. The exams come from the green book practice exams. She is very nice so don't be afraid to ask for a little extra credit as long as you actually go to class.
Pyrros is ok. She makes you work for an A. Also, she will call you out in the classroom if she sees you talking or on your phone. However, from what I've heard, if you're going to take 221 she's your best bet. Go to her office hours, she really can be helpful and she really does care about her students if you show her that you care as well.
Pyrros is nice but she is probably the worst teacher I've ever had. Honestly. I went to a private high school and got an A+ in honors math all 4 years, and had an F in this class despite going to the tutoring sessions, doing all homework, and studying for hours. Don't take math at UD if you can help it- take it somewhere else over winter session.
Took this class and wound up withdrawing and taking a W. Horrible teacher, class consisted of her doing the practice problems and going way too fast. TA was horrible and also confusing. I thought I was good at math and had already taken calc in highschool but this was absolutely horrible.
She is a very sweet lady, and really loves what she does. However, be prepared to really have to work for your grade in this class, especially if you're not very keen with math to begin with.
Her online lectures are very easy to follow. Get the red book. I liked her, but she has a strong accent so if you have an issue with that, then take another professor.
